The UWB radio manager coordinates the use of the radio between the
PALs that may be using it. PALs request use of the radio with
uwb_radio_start() and the radio manager will start beaconing if its
not already doing so. When the last PAL has called uwb_radio_stop()
beaconing will be stopped.
In the future, the radio manager will have a more sophisticated channel
selection algorithm, probably following the Channel Selection Policy
from the WiMedia Alliance when it is finalized. For now, channel 9
(BG1, TFC1) is selected.
The user may override the channel selected by the radio manager and may
force the radio to stop beaconing.
The WUSB Host Controller PAL makes use of this and there are two new
debug PAL commands that can be used for testing.

Impact: makes device isolation the default for AMD IOMMU
Some device drivers showed double-free bugs of DMA memory while testing
them with AMD IOMMU. If all devices share the same protection domain
this can lead to data corruption and data loss. Prevent this by putting
each device into its own protection domain per default.

This patch deprecates the Ack Ratio sysctl, since
* Ack Ratio is entirely ignored by CCID-3 and CCID-4,
* Ack Ratio currently doesn't work in CCID-2 (i.e. is always set to 1);
* even if it would work in CCID-2, there is no point for a user to change it:
- Ack Ratio is constrained by cwnd (RFC 4341, 6.1.2),
- if Ack Ratio > cwnd, the system resorts to spurious RTO timeouts
(since waiting for Acks which will never arrive in this window),
- cwnd is not a user-configurable value.
The only reasonable place for Ack Ratio is to print it for debugging. It is
planned to do this later on, as part of e.g. dccp_probe.
With this patch Ack Ratio is now under full control of feature negotiation:
* Ack Ratio is resolved as a dependency of the selected CCID;
* if the chosen CCID supports it (i.e. CCID == CCID-2), Ack Ratio is set to
the default of 2, following RFC 4340, 11.3 - "New connections start with Ack
Ratio 2 for both endpoints";
* what happens then is part of another patch set, since it concerns the
dynamic update of Ack Ratio while the connection is in full flight.

Impact: API *CHANGE*. Must update all tracepoint users.
Add DEFINE_TRACE() to tracepoints to let them declare the tracepoint
structure in a single spot for all the kernel. It helps reducing memory
consumption, especially when declaring a lot of tracepoints, e.g. for
kmalloc tracing.
*API CHANGE WARNING*: now, DECLARE_TRACE() must be used in headers for
tracepoint declarations rather than DEFINE_TRACE(). This is the sane way
to do it. The name previously used was misleading.

Impact: new API.
Allow markers to be used only for declaration, without function call
associated. Useful to create specialized probes.
The problem we had is that two function calls were required when one
wanted to put a marker in a tracepoint probe. Now the marker can be used
simply for trace data type declaration, leaving the trace write work
within the tracepoint probe without any additional function call.

Impact: rename file /debug/tracing/iter_ctrl to /debug/tracing/trace_options

Impact: change the units of buffer_size_kb to kilobytes
This patch changes the units of the buffer_size_kb file to kilobytes.

Impact: rename of debugfs file trace_entries to buffer_size_kb
The original ftrace had fixed size entries, and the number of entries
was shown and modified via the file called trace_entries. By converting
to the unified trace buffer, we now allow for variable size entries
which makes the meaning of trace_entries pointless.
Since trace_size might be confused to the size of the trace, this patch
names it "buffer_size_kb" (thanks to Arjan van de Ven for this idea).

This adds a driver to the accelerometer sensor found in several HP
laptops (under the commercial names of "HP Mobile Data Protection System
3D" and "HP 3D driveguard"). It tries to have more or less the same
interfaces as the hdaps and other accelerometer drivers: in sysfs and as
a joystick.
This driver was first written by Yan Burman. Eric Piel has updated it
and slimed it up (including the removal of an interface to access to the
free-fall feature of the sensor because it is not reliable enough for
now). Pavel Machek removed few more features and switched locking from
semaphore to mutex.
Several people have contributed to the database of the axes.

This provides a data structure to record which CCIDs are locally supported
and three accessor functions:
- a test function for internal use which is used to validate CCID requests
made by the user;
- a copy function so that the list can be used for feature-negotiation;
- documented getsockopt() support so that the user can query capabilities.
The data structure is a table which is filled in at compile-time with the
list of available CCIDs (which in turn depends on the Kconfig choices).
Using the copy function for cloning the list of supported CCIDs is useful for
feature negotiation, since the negotiation is now with the full list of available
CCIDs (e.g. {2, 3}) instead of the default value {2}. This means negotiation
will not fail if the peer requests to use CCID3 instead of CCID2.

FAT has the ATTR_RO (read-only) attribute. But on Windows, the ATTR_RO
of the directory will be just ignored actually, and is used by only
applications as flag. E.g. it's setted for the customized folder by
Explorer.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa969337.aspx
This adds "rodir" option. If user specified it, ATTR_RO is used as
read-only flag even if it's the directory. Otherwise, inode->i_mode
is not used to hold ATTR_RO (i.e. fat_mode_can_save_ro() returns 0).

This patch implements alternative aggregator selection policies
for 802.3ad. The existing policy, now termed "stable," selects the active
aggregator by greatest bandwidth, and only reselects a new aggregator
if the active aggregator is entirely disabled (no more ports or all ports
down).
This patch adds two new policies: bandwidth and count, selecting
the active aggregator by total bandwidth (like the stable policy) or by
the number of ports in the aggregator, respectively. These two policies
also differ from the stable policy in that they will reselect the active
aggregator when availability-related changes occur in the bond (e.g.,
link state change).
This permits "gang failover" within 802.3ad, allowing redundant
aggregators along parallel paths to always maintain the "best" aggregator
as the active aggregator (rather than having to wait for the active to
entirely fail).
This patch also updates the driver version to 3.5.0.

This patch adds better IPv6 failover support for bonding devices,
especially when in active-backup mode and there are only IPv6 addresses
configured, as reported by Alex Sidorenko.
- Creates a new file, net/drivers/bonding/bond_ipv6.c, for the
IPv6-specific routines. Both regular bonds and VLANs over bonds
are supported.
- Adds a new tunable, num_unsol_na, to limit the number of unsolicited
IPv6 Neighbor Advertisements that are sent on a failover event.
Default is 1.
- Creates two new IPv6 neighbor discovery functions:
ndisc_build_skb()
ndisc_send_skb()
These were required to support VLANs since we have to be able to
add the VLAN id to the skb since ndisc_send_na() and friends
shouldn't be asked to do this. These two routines are basically
__ndisc_send() split into two pieces, in a slightly different order.
- Updates Documentation/networking/bonding.txt and bumps the rev of bond
support to 3.4.0.
On failover, this new code will generate one packet:
- An unsolicited IPv6 Neighbor Advertisement, which helps the switch
learn that the address has moved to the new slave.
Testing has shown that sending just the NA results in pretty good
behavior when in active-back mode, I saw no lost ping packets for example.

Add a no_file_caps boot option when file capabilities are
compiled into the kernel (CONFIG_SECURITY_FILE_CAPABILITIES=y).
This allows distributions to ship a kernel with file capabilities
compiled in, without forcing users to use (and understand and
trust) them.
When no_file_caps is specified at boot, then when a process executes
a file, any file capabilities stored with that file will not be
used in the calculation of the process' new capability sets.
This means that booting with the no_file_caps boot option will
not be the same as booting a kernel with file capabilities
compiled out - in particular a task with CAP_SETPCAP will not
have any chance of passing capabilities to another task (which
isn't "really" possible anyway, and which may soon by killed
altogether by David Howells in any case), and it will instead
be able to put new capabilities in its pI. However since fI
will always be empty and pI is masked with fI, it gains the
task nothing.
We also support the extra prctl options, setting securebits and
dropping capabilities from the per-process bounding set.
The other remaining difference is that killpriv, task_setscheduler,

There are actually two variants of ALC268 Acer implementation, one
with an analog built-in mic (pin 0x19) and another with a digital
mic (pin 0x12). Created a new model, acer-dmic, for the latter case
now.
So far, all known models are assigned to be analog-mic, according to
the BIOS setup. If this doesn't match with the actual case, one needs
to try model=acer-dmic, and fix the entry to point ALC268_ACER_DMIC
if it works.

Impact: Changes timekeeping on Vmware (or with tsc=reliable).
This is achieved by resetting the CLOCKSOURCE_MUST_VERIFY flag.
We add a tsc=reliable commandline option to enable this.
This enables legacy hardware without HPET, LAPIC, or ACPI timers
to enter high-resolution timer mode.
Along with that have extended this to be used in virtualization environement
too. Now we also set this flag if the X86_FEATURE_TSC_RELIABLE bit is set.
This is important since there is a wrap-around problem with the acpi_pm timer.
The acpi_pm counter is just 24bits and this can overflow in ~4 seconds. With
the NO_HZ kernels in virtualized environment, there can be situations when
the guest is descheduled for longer duration, as a result we may miss the wrap
of the acpi counter. When TSC is used as a clocksource and acpi_pm timer is
being used as the watchdog clocksource this error in acpi_pm results in TSC
being marked as unstable, and essentially results in time dropping in chunks
of 4 seconds whenever this wrap is missed. Since the virtualized TSC is
reliable on VMware, we should always use the TSCs clocksource on VMware, so
we skip the verfication at runtime, by checking for the feature bit.
Since we reset the flag for mgeode systems too, i have combined
the mgeode case with the feature bit check.

Add of software-based sanity to rfkill and rfkill-input so that it can
reproduce what hardware-based EPO switches do, blocking all transmitters
and locking down any further attempts to unblock them until the switch is
deactivated.
rfkill-input is responsible for issuing the EPO control requests, like
before.
While an rfkill EPO is active, all transmitters are locked to one of the
BLOCKED states and all attempts to change that through the rfkill API
(userspace and kernel) will be either ignored or return -EPERM errors.
The lock will be released upon receipt of EV_SW SW_RFKILL_ALL ON by
rfkill-input, or should modular rfkill-input be unloaded.
This makes rfkill and rfkill-input extend the operation of an existing
wireless master kill switch to all wireless devices in the system, even
those that are not under hardware or firmware control.
Since the above is the expected operational behavior for the master rfkill
switch, the EPO lock functionality is not optional.
Also, extend rfkill-input to allow for three different behaviors when it
receives an EV_SW SW_RFKILL_ALL ON input event. The user can set which
behavior he wants through the master_switch_mode parameter:
master_switch_mode = 0: EV_SW SW_RFKILL_ALL ON just unlocks rfkill
controller state changes (so that the rfkill userspace and kernel APIs can
now be used to change rfkill controller states again), but doesn't change
any of their states (so they will all remain blocked). This is the safest
mode of operation, as it requires explicit operator action to re-enable a
transmitter.
master_switch_mode = 1: EV_SW SW_RFKILL_ALL ON causes rfkill-input to
attempt to restore the system to the state before the last EV_SW
SW_RFKILL_ALL OFF event, or to the default global states if no EV_SW
SW_RFKILL_ALL OFF ever happened. This is the recommended mode of
operation for laptops.
master_switch_mode = 2: tries to unblock all rfkill controllers (i.e.
enable all transmitters) when an EV_SW SW_RFKILL_ALL ON event is received.
This is the default mode of operation, as it mimics the previous behavior
of rfkill-input.
In order to implement these features in a clean way, the entire event
handling of rfkill-input was refactored into a single worker function.
Protection against input event DoS (repeatedly firing rfkill events for
rfkill-input to process) was removed during the code refactoring. It will
be added back in a future patch.
Note that with these changes, rfkill-input doesn't need to explicitly
handle any radio types for which KEY_<radio type> or SW_<radio type> events
do not exist yet.
Code to handle EV_SW SW_{WLAN,WWAN,BLUETOOTH,WIMAX,...} was added as it
might be needed in the future (and its implementation is not that obvious),
but is currently #ifdef'd out to avoid wasting resources.

Impact: add new generic io_map_*() APIs
Graphics devices have large PCI apertures which would consume a significant
fraction of a 32-bit address space if mapped during driver initialization.
Using ioremap at runtime is impractical as it is too slow.
This new set of interfaces uses atomic mappings on 32-bit processors and a
large static mapping on 64-bit processors to provide reasonable 32-bit
performance and optimal 64-bit performance.
The current implementation sits atop the io_map_atomic fixmap-based
mechanism for 32-bit processors.

ftrace: handle archs that do not support irqs_disabled_flags
Impact: build fix on non-lockdep architectures
Some architectures do not support a way to read the irq flags that
is set from "local_irq_save(flags)" to determine if interrupts were
disabled or enabled. Ftrace uses this information to display to the user
if the trace occurred with interrupts enabled or disabled.
Besides the fact that those archs that do not support this will fail to
compile, unless they fix it, we do not want to have the trace simply
say interrupts were not disabled or they were enabled, without knowing
the real answer.
This patch adds a 'X' in the output to let the user know that the
architecture they are running on does not support a way for the tracer
to determine if interrupts were enabled or disabled. It also lets those
same archs compile with tracing enabled.

Introduce a new flag showing whether the event has an event handler/method.
For all the GPEs and Fixed Events,
1. ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_HANDLE is cleared, it's an "invalid" ACPI event.
2. Both ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_HANDLE and ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_DISABLE are set,
it's "disabled".
3. Both ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_HANDLE and ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_ENABLE are set,
it's "enabled".
4. Both ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_HANDLE and ACPI_EVENT_FLAG_WAKE_ENABLE are set,
it's "wake_enabled".
Among other things, this prevents incorrect reporting of ACPI events
as being "invalid" when it's really just (temporarily) "disabled".

This is a patch to provide on demand route cache rebuilding. Currently, our
route cache is rebulid periodically regardless of need. This introduced
unneeded periodic latency. This patch offers a better approach. Using code
provided by Eric Dumazet, we compute the standard deviation of the average hash
bucket chain length while running rt_check_expire. Should any given chain
length grow to larger that average plus 4 standard deviations, we trigger an
emergency hash table rebuild for that net namespace. This allows for the common
case in which chains are well behaved and do not grow unevenly to not incur any
latency at all, while those systems (which may be being maliciously attacked),
only rebuild when the attack is detected. This patch take 2 other factors into
account:
1) chains with multiple entries that differ by attributes that do not affect the
hash value are only counted once, so as not to unduly bias system to rebuilding
if features like QOS are heavily used
2) if rebuilding crosses a certain threshold (which is adjustable via the added
sysctl in this patch), route caching is disabled entirely for that net
namespace, since constant rebuilding is less efficient that no caching at all

Maybe the incorrect power state is returned on the bogus bios, which
is different with the real power state. For example: the bios returns D0
state and the real power state is D3. OS expects to set the device to D0
state. In such case if OS uses the power state returned by the BIOS and
checks the device power state very strictly in power transition, the device
can't be transited to the correct power state.
So the boot option of "acpi.power_nocheck=1" is added to avoid checking
the device power in the course of device power transition.

This adds relocatable kernel support for kdump. With this one can
use the same regular kernel to capture the kdump. A signature (0xfeed1234)
is passed in r6 from panic code to the next kernel through kexec_sequence
and purgatory code. The signature is used to differentiate between
kdump kernel and non-kdump kernels.
The purgatory code compares the signature and sets the __kdump_flag in
head_64.S. During the boot up, kernel code checks __kdump_flag and if it
is set, the kernel will behave as relocatable kdump kernel. This kernel
will boot at the address where it was loaded by kexec-tools ie. at the
address reserved through crashkernel boot parameter.
CONFIG_CRASH_DUMP depends on CONFIG_RELOCATABLE option to build kdump
kernel as relocatable. So the same kernel can be used as production and
kdump kernel.

The current MSI-HOWTO.txt says that device drivers should not request the
memory space that contains MSI-X tables. This is because the original
MSI-X implementation did a request_mem_region() on this space, but that
code was removed long ago (in the pre-git era, in fact). Years after the
code was changed, we might as well clean up the documention to avoid a
confusing mention of requesting regions: drivers using MSI-X can just use
pci_request_regions() just like any other driver, and so there's no need
for MSI-HOWTO.txt to talk about this at all.

There are not-on-LRU pages which can be mapped and they are not worth to
be accounted. (becasue we can't shrink them and need dirty codes to
handle specical case) We'd like to make use of usual objrmap/radix-tree's
protcol and don't want to account out-of-vm's control pages.
When special_mapping_fault() is called, page->mapping is tend to be NULL
and it's charged as Anonymous page. insert_page() also handles some
special pages from drivers.
This patch is for avoiding to account special pages.

If the journal doesn't abort when it gets an IO error in file data blocks,
the file data corruption will spread silently. Because most of
applications and commands do buffered writes without fsync(), they don't
notice the IO error. It's scary for mission critical systems. On the
other hand, if the journal aborts whenever it gets an IO error in file
data blocks, the system will easily become inoperable. So this patch
introduces a filesystem option to determine whether it aborts the journal
or just call printk() when it gets an IO error in file data.
If you mount a ext3 fs with data_err=abort option, it aborts on file data
write error. If you mount it with data_err=ignore, it doesn't abort, just
call printk(). data_err=ignore is the default.

The current documentation of dirty_ratio and dirty_background_ratio is a
bit misleading.
In the documentation we say that they are "a percentage of total system
memory", but the current page writeback policy, intead, is to apply the
percentages to the dirtyable memory, that means free pages + reclaimable
pages.
Better to be more explicit to clarify this concept.

Presently hugepage's vma has a VM_RESERVED flag in order not to be
swapped. But a VM_RESERVED vma isn't core dumped because this flag is
often used for some kernel vmas (e.g. vmalloc, sound related).
Thus hugepages are never dumped and it can't be debugged easily. Many
developers want hugepages to be included into core-dump.
However, We can't read generic VM_RESERVED area because this area is often
IO mapping area. then these area reading may change device state. it is
definitly undesiable side-effect.
So adding a hugepage specific bit to the coredump filter is better. It
will be able to hugepage core dumping and doesn't cause any side-effect to
any i/o devices.
In additional, libhugetlb use hugetlb private mapping pages as anonymous
page. Then, hugepage private mapping pages should be core dumped by
default.
Then, /proc/[pid]/core_dump_filter has two new bits.
- bit 5 mean hugetlb private mapping pages are dumped or not. (default: yes)
- bit 6 mean hugetlb shared mapping pages are dumped or not. (default: no)
I tested by following method.

The it87 driver doesn't follow the standard sensor type values as
documented in Documentation/hwmon/sysfs-interface. It uses value 2 for
thermistors instead of value 4. This causes "sensors" to tell the user
that the chip is setup for a transistor while it is actually setup for
a thermistor.
Using value 4 for thermistors solves the problem. For compatibility
reasons, we still accept value 2 but emit a warning message so that
users update their configuration files.

Implement the standard PWM frequency interface: pwm[1-*]_freq in
units of 1 Hz, instead of the non-standard pwm[1-*]_auto_pwm_freq
in units of 0.1 Hz. The old naming was not only non-standard, it was
also confusing, because it suggested that the frequency value only
applied in automatic fan speed mode, which isn't true.

Add support for Intel's 945GME graphics chip to the intelfb driver. I
have assumed that the 945GME is identical to the already-supported 945GM
apart from its PCI IDs; this is based on a quick look at the X driver for
these chips which seems to treat them identically.
The 945GME is used in the ASUS Eee 901, and I coded this in the hope that
I'd be able to use it to get a console at the native 1024x600 resolution
which is not known to the BIOS. I realised too late that the intelfb
driver does not support mode changing on laptops, so it won't be any

Way too often, I have a machine that exhibits some kind of crappy
behavior. The CPU looks wedged in the kernel or it is spending way too
much system time and I wonder what is responsible.
I try to run readprofile. But, of course, Ubuntu doesn't enable it by
default. Dang!
The reason we boot-time enable it is that it takes a big bufffer that we
generally can only bootmem alloc. But, does it hurt to at least try and
runtime-alloc it?
To use:
echo 2 > /sys/kernel/profile
Then run readprofile like normal.
This should fix the compile issue with allmodconfig. I've compile-tested

Use the '%pF' format to get rid of an "#ifdef DEBUG" and make some printks
atomic.
This removes the last in-tree uses of print_fn_descriptor_symbol(). I
marked print_fn_descriptor_symbol() deprecated and scheduled it for
removal next year to give time for out-of-tree modules to be updated.
parisc's print_fn_descriptor_symbol() is currently broken there (it needs
to dereference the function pointer similar to ia64 and power). This
patch shouldn't make anything worse, but it means we need to fix
dereference_function_descriptor() instead of print_fn_descriptor_symbol()
to get meaningful initcall_debug output.

When looking at kobject_rename I found two bugs with
that exist when sysfs support is disabled in the kernel.
kobject_rename does not change the name on the kobject when
sysfs support is not compiled in.
kobject_rename without locking attempts to check the
validity of a rename operation, which the kobject layer
simply does not have the infrastructure to do.
This patch documents the previously unstated requirement of
kobject_rename that is the responsibility of the caller to
provide mutual exclusion and to be certain that the new_name
for the kobject is valid.
This patch modifies sysfs_rename_dir in !CONFIG_SYSFS case
to call kobject_set_name to actually change the kobject_name.
This patch removes the bogus and misleading check in kobject_rename
that attempts to see if a rename is valid. The check is bogus
because we do not have the proper locking. The check is misleading
because it looks like we can and do perform checking at the kobject
level that we don't.

Base infrastructure to enable per-module debug messages.
I've introduced CONFIG_DYNAMIC_PRINTK_DEBUG, which when enabled centralizes
control of debugging statements on a per-module basis in one /proc file,
currently, <debugfs>/dynamic_printk/modules. When, CONFIG_DYNAMIC_PRINTK_DEBUG,
is not set, debugging statements can still be enabled as before, often by
defining 'DEBUG' for the proper compilation unit. Thus, this patch set has no
affect when CONFIG_DYNAMIC_PRINTK_DEBUG is not set.
The infrastructure currently ties into all pr_debug() and dev_dbg() calls. That
is, if CONFIG_DYNAMIC_PRINTK_DEBUG is set, all pr_debug() and dev_dbg() calls
can be dynamically enabled/disabled on a per-module basis.
Future plans include extending this functionality to subsystems, that define
their own debug levels and flags.
Usage:
Dynamic debugging is controlled by the debugfs file,
<debugfs>/dynamic_printk/modules. This file contains a list of the modules that
can be enabled. The format of the file is as follows:
<module_name> <enabled=0/1>
.
.
.
<module_name> : Name of the module in which the debug call resides
<enabled=0/1> : whether the messages are enabled or not
For example:
snd_hda_intel enabled=0
fixup enabled=1
driver enabled=0
Enable a module:
$echo "set enabled=1 <module_name>" > dynamic_printk/modules
Disable a module:
$echo "set enabled=0 <module_name>" > dynamic_printk/modules
Enable all modules:
$echo "set enabled=1 all" > dynamic_printk/modules
Disable all modules:
$echo "set enabled=0 all" > dynamic_printk/modules
Finally, passing "dynamic_printk" at the command line enables
debugging for all modules. This mode can be turned off via the above
disable command.
