When using the string representation of a random counter as part of the base
name, ensure that it is no longer than 4 bytes.
Since we are repeatedly decrementing the counter in a loop until we have found a
unique base name, the counter may wrap around zero; therefore, it is not enough
to mask its higher bits before entering the loop, this must be done inside the
loop.

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

This gives the filesystem more information about the writeback that
is happening. Trond requested this for the NFS unstable write handling,
and other filesystems might benefit from this too by beeing able to
distinguish between the different callers in more detail.

characters, yet, pathconf(), via statfs(), returns the maximum as 260.

After d_find_alias(), vfat_lookup() checks !(->d_flags & DCACHE_DISCONNECTED)
without IS_ROOT(). This means it hits non-anonymous but disconnected
dentry. (NOTE: d_splice_alias() doesn't clear DCACHE_DISCONNECTED)
But, vfat_lookup() has interest to alias if it was non-anonymous. So,
this adds vfat_d_anon_disconn() helper to check it correctly.
Another bug is refcnt leak. It needs dput() for uninterested alias.

Currently shipping discard capable SSDs and arrays have rather sub-optimal
implementations of the command and can the use of it can cause massive
slowdowns. Make issueing these commands option as it's already in btrfs
and gfs2.

If we didn't check sb->s_dirt, it will update the FSINFO
unconditionally. It will reduce the filetime of flash base device.
So, this checks sb->s_dirt. sb->s_dirt is racy, however FSINFO is just
hint. So even if there is race, and we hit it, it would not become big
problem.
And this also is as workaround of suspend problem.

fat_cont_expand() is the only user of sync_page_range_nolock(). It's also the
only user of generic_osync_inode() which does not have a file open. So
opencode needed actions for FAT so that we can convert generic_osync_inode() to
a standard syncing path.

Because, with "shortname=lower", copying one FAT filesystem tree to
another FAT filesystem tree using Linux results in semantically
different filesystems. (E.g.: Filenames which were once "all
uppercase" are now "all lowercase").
So, this changes the default of "shortname=lower" to "shortname=mixed".

With utf8 option, vfat allowed the duplicated filenames.
Normal nls returns -EINVAL for invalid char. But utf8s_to_utf16s()
skipped the invalid char historically.
So, this changes the utf8s_to_utf16s() directly to return -EINVAL for
invalid char, because vfat is only user of it.

This patch (as1239) updates the kernel's treatment of Unicode. The
character-set conversion routines are well behind the current state of
the Unicode specification: They don't recognize the existence of code
points beyond plane 0 or of surrogate pairs in the UTF-16 encoding.
The old wchar_t 16-bit type is retained because it's still used in
lots of places. This shouldn't cause any new problems; if a
conversion now results in an invalid 16-bit code then before it must
have yielded an undefined code.
Difficult-to-read names like "utf_mbstowcs" are replaced with more
transparent names like "utf8s_to_utf16s" and the ordering of the
parameters is rationalized (buffer lengths come immediate after the
pointers they refer to, and the inputs precede the outputs).
Fortunately the low-level conversion routines are used in only a few
places; the interfaces to the higher-level uni2char and char2uni
methods have been left unchanged.

Push down lock_super into ->write_super instances and remove it from the
caller.
Following filesystem don't need ->s_lock in ->write_super and are skipped:
* bfs, nilfs2 - no other uses of s_lock and have internal locks in
->write_super
* ext2 - uses BKL in ext2_write_super and has internal calls without s_lock
* reiserfs - no other uses of s_lock as has reiserfs_write_lock (BKL) in
->write_super
* xfs - no other uses of s_lock and uses internal lock (buffer lock on
superblock buffer) to serialize ->write_super. Also xfs_fs_write_super
is superflous and will go away in the next merge window

Move BKL into ->put_super from the only caller. A couple of
filesystems had trivial enough ->put_super (only kfree and NULLing of
s_fs_info + stuff in there) to not get any locking: coda, cramfs, efs,
hugetlbfs, omfs, qnx4, shmem, all others got the full treatment. Most
of them probably don't need it, but I'd rather sort that out individually.
Preferably after all the other BKL pushdowns in that area.

We just did a full fs writeout using sync_filesystem before, and if
that's not enough for the filesystem it can perform it's own writeout
in ->put_super, which many filesystems already do.
Move a call to foofs_write_super into every foofs_put_super for now to
guarantee identical behaviour until it's cleaned up by the individual
filesystem maintainers.
Exceptions:
- affs already has identical copy & pasted code at the beginning of
affs_put_super so no need to do it twice.
- xfs does the right thing without it and I have changes pending for
the xfs tree touching this are so I don't really need conflicts
here..

On severe errors FAT remounts itself in read-only mode. Allow to
specify FAT fs desired behavior through 'errors' mount option:
panic, continue or remount read-only.

This is analog to ext2 fs 'errors' mount option.

Wrap access to task credentials so that they can be separated more easily from
the task_struct during the introduction of COW creds.

mmu_private is 64bits value, hence it's not atomic to update.
So, the access rule for mmu_private is we must hold ->i_mutex. But,
fat_get_block() path doesn't follow the rule on non-allocation path.
This fixes by using i_size instead if non-allocation path.

FAT has the ATTR_RO (read-only) attribute. But on Windows, the ATTR_RO
of the directory will be just ignored actually, and is used by only
applications as flag. E.g. it's setted for the customized folder by
Explorer.

This adds "rodir" option. If user specified it, ATTR_RO is used as
read-only flag even if it's the directory. Otherwise, inode->i_mode
is not used to hold ATTR_RO (i.e. fat_mode_can_save_ro() returns 0).

If inode->i_mode doesn't have S_WUGO, current code assumes it means
ATTR_RO. However, if (~[ufd]mask & S_WUGO) == 0, inode->i_mode can't
hold S_WUGO. Therefore the updated directory entry will always have
ATTR_RO.
This adds fat_mode_can_hold_ro() to check it. And if inode->i_mode
can't hold, uses -i_attrs to hold ATTR_RO instead.
With this, we don't set ATTR_RO unless users change it via ioctl() if
(~[ufd]mask & S_WUGO) == 0.
And on FAT_IOCTL_GET_ATTRIBUTES path, this adds ->i_mutex to it for
not returning the partially updated attributes by FAT_IOCTL_SET_ATTRIBUTES
to userland.

This adds three helpers:
fat_make_attrs() - makes FAT attributes from inode.
fat_make_mode() - makes mode_t from FAT attributes.
fat_save_attrs() - saves FAT attributes to inode.
Then this replaces: MSDOS_MKMODE() by fat_make_mode(), fat_attr() by
fat_make_attrs(), ->i_attrs = attr & ATTR_UNUSED by fat_save_attrs().
And for root inode, those is used with ATTR_DIR instead of bogus
ATTR_NONE.

d_invalidate() for positive dentry doesn't work in some cases
(vfsmount, nfsd, and maybe others). shrink_dcache_parent() by
d_invalidate() is pointless for vfat usage at all.
So, this kills it, and intead of it uses d_move().
To save old behavior, this returns alias simply for directory (don't
change pwd, etc..). the directory lookup shouldn't be important for
performance.

- Add comments for handling dcache of vfat.
- Separate case-sensitive case and case-insensitive to
vfat_revalidate() and vfat_ci_revalidate().
vfat_revalidate() doesn't need to drop case-insensitive negative
dentry on creation path.
- Current code is missing to set ->d_revalidate to the negative dentry
created by unlink/etc..
This sets ->d_revalidate always, and returns 1 for positive
dentry. Now, we don't need to change ->d_op dynamically anymore,
so this just uses sb->s_root->d_op to set ->d_op.
- d_find_alias() may return DCACHE_DISCONNECTED dentry. It's not
the interesting dentry there. This checks it.
- Add missing LOOKUP_PARENT check. We don't need to drop the valid

- For consistent filename on creation path, this drops negative dentry

fat_hash() is using the algorithm known as bad. Instead of it, this
uses hash_32(). The following is the summary of test.

In fat_search_long() if fat_parse_long() returns a -ve value we return
without first freeing unicode. This patch free's them on this error path.
The above was false positive on current tree, but this change is more
clean, so apply as cleanup.

Since fat_dir_ioctl() was already fixed (i.e. called under ->i_mutex),
and __fat_readdir() doesn't take BKL anymore. So, BKL for ->llseek()
is pointless, and we have to use generic_file_llseek().

This cleans date_dos2unix()/fat_date_unix2dos() up. New code should be
much more readable.
And this fixes those old functions. Those doesn't handle 2100
correctly. 2100 isn't leap year, but old one handles it as leap year.
Also, with this, centi sec is handled and is fixed.

This is a much better version of a previous patch to make the parser
tables constant. Rather than changing the typedef, we put the "const" in
all the various places where its required, allowing the __initconst
exception for nfsroot which was the cause of the previous trouble.
This was posted for review some time ago and I believe its been in -mm
since then.

There was another FAT BKL conversion deadlock reported by Bart
Trojanowski due to the BKL being used as a recursive lock by FAT, which
was missed because it only triggers with 'sync' (or 'dirsync') mounts.
The recursion worked for the BKL, but after the conversion to lock_super
(which uses a mutex), it just deadlocks.
Thanks to Bart for debugging this and testing the fix. The lock

where the deadlock is due to the nesting of lock_super from vfat_unlink
to fat_write_inode:

and the fix is to simply remove the use of lock_super() in fat_write_inode.
The lock_super() there had been just an automatic conversion of the
kernel lock to the superblock lock, but no locking was actually needed
there, since the code in fat_write_inode already protected all relevant
accesses with a spinlock (sbi->inode_hash_lock to be exact). The only
code inside the BKL (and thus the superblock lock) was accesses tp local
variables or calls to functions that have long been SMP-safe (i.e.
sb_bread, mark_buffe_dirty and brlese).
Bart reports:
"Looks good. I ran 10 parallel processes creating 1M files truncating
them, writing to them again and then deleting them. This patch fixes
the issue I ran into.

The FAT_IOCTL_SET_ATTRIBUTES ioctl() calls notify_change() to change
the file mode before changing the inode attributes. Replace with
explicit calls to security_inode_setattr(), fat_setattr() and
fsnotify_change().
This is equivalent to the original. The reason it is needed, is that
later in the series we move the immutable check into notify_change().
That would break the FAT_IOCTL_SET_ATTRIBUTES ioctl, as it needs to
perform the mode change regardless of the immutability of the file.

Kmem cache passed to constructor is only needed for constructors that are
themselves multiplexeres. Nobody uses this "feature", nor does anybody uses
passed kmem cache in non-trivial way, so pass only pointer to object.

Provide a new mount option ("tz=UTC") for DOS (vfat/msdos) filesystems,
allowing timestamps to be in coordinated universal time (UTC) rather than
local time in applications where doing this is advantageous.
In particular, portable devices that use fat/vfat (such as digital
cameras) can benefit from using UTC in their internal clocks, thus
avoiding daylight saving time errors and general time ambiguity issues.
The user of the device does not have to worry about changing the time when
moving from place or when daylight saving changes.
The new mount option, when set, disables the counter-adjustment that Linux
currently makes to FAT timestamp info in anticipation of the normal
userspace time zone correction. When used in this new mode, all daylight
saving time and time zone handling is done in userspace as is normal for
many other filesystems (like ext3). The default mode, which remains
unchanged, is still appropriate when mounting volumes written in Windows
(because of its use of local time).
I originally based this patch on one submitted last year by Paul Collins,
but I updated it to work with current source and changed variable/option
naming. Ogawa Hirofumi (who maintains these filesystems) and I discussed
this patch at length on lkml, and he suggested using the option name in
the attached version of the patch. Barry Bouwsma pointed out a good
addition to the patch as well.

struct __fat_dirent is what was formerly the kernel struct dirent (that
was different from the userspace struct dirent).
Converting all fat users to struct __fat_dirent will allow us to get rid
of the conflicting struct dirent definition.

This replaces the use of the BKL in the FAT family of filesystems with the
existing superblock lock instead.
The code already appears to do mostly proper locking with its own private
spinlocks (and mutexes), but while the BKL could possibly have been
dropped entirely, converting it to use the superblock lock (which is just
a regular mutex) is the conservative thing to do.
As a per-filesystem mutex, it not only won't have any of the possible
latency issues related to the BKL, but the lock is obviously private to
the particular filesystem instance and will thus not cause problems for
entirely unrelated users like the BKL can.

New chmod() allows only acceptable permission, and if not acceptable, it
returns -EPERM. Old one allows even if it can't store permission to on
disk inode. But it seems too strict for users.
E.g. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=449080: With new one,
rsync couldn't create the temporary file.
So, this patch allows like old one, but now it doesn't change the
permission if it can't store, and it returns 0.
Also, this patch fixes missing check.

The on-disk media specification field in FAT is only 8-bits, so testing for
<=0xff is pointless, and can generate a "comparison is always true due to
limited range of data type" warning.
While we're there, convert FAT_VALID_MEDIA() into a C function - the present
implementation is buggy: it generates either one or two references to its
argument.

This patch fix the problem that the buffer allocated for convert of unicode to
utf8 in fat/dir.c is too small.
And cannot handle filename with 255 asian characters when mounted with utf8
options.
Also it fix the filename length limitation checking in vfat/namei.c that the
filename length should be checked against the number of converted unicode
characters.
Not the length before NLS/UTF8 converted.

Currently, free_clusters is not updated until it is trusted, because
Windows doesn't update it correctly.
But if user is using FAT driver of Linux, it updates free_clusters
correctly. Instead, this updates it even if it's untrusted, so if
free_clustes is correct, now keep correct value.

Normally utime(2) checks current process is owner of the file, or it
has CAP_FOWNER capability. But FAT filesystem doesn't have uid/gid as
on disk info, so normal check is too unflexible.
With this option you can relax it.

Fix fat_setattr() on the case of showexec option. If user specified
showexec option, inode->i_mode may not have S_IXUGO. This just use
inode->i_mode to fix it.
And with this patch, we don't allow chmod() on memory inode, it's just
bad behaviour. IOW, we allow changing S_IWUGO only which can be stored
to disk.
