Andreas Larsson 446411e18b spi: Initialize cs_gpio and cs_gpios with -ENOENT
The return value from of_get_named_gpio is -ENOENT when the given index
matches a hole in the "cs-gpios" property phandle list. However, the
default value of cs_gpio in struct spi_device and entries of cs_gpios in
struct spi_master is -EINVAL, which is documented to indicate that a
GPIO line should not be used for the given spi_device.

This sets the default value of cs_gpio in struct spi_device and entries
of cs_gpios in struct spi_master to -ENOENT. Thus, -ENOENT is the only
value used to indicate that no GPIO line should be used.

Shawn Guo 26aafa77df spi: mxs-spi: move to use generic DMA helper
With the generic DMA device tree helper supported by mxs-dma driver,
client devices only need to call dma_request_slave_channel() for
requesting a DMA channel from dmaengine.

Since mxs is a DT only platform now, along with the changes, the non-DT
case handling in probe function also gets removed.

Stephen Warren 543bb255a1 spi: add ability to validate xfer->bits_per_word in SPI core
Allow SPI masters to define the set of bits_per_word values they support.
If they do this, then the SPI core will reject transfers that attempt to
use an unsupported bits_per_word value. This eliminates the need for each
SPI driver to implement this checking in most cases.

Lars-Peter Clausen 6d9eecd418 spi: Add helper functions for setting up transfers
Quite often the pattern used for setting up and transferring a synchronous SPI
transaction looks very much like the following:

	struct spi_message msg;
	struct spi_transfer xfers[] = {
		...
	};

	spi_message_init(&msg);
	spi_message_add_tail(&xfers[0], &msg);
	...
	spi_message_add_tail(&xfers[ARRAY_SIZE(xfers) - 1], &msg);

	ret = spi_sync(&msg);

This patch adds two new helper functions for handling this case. The first
helper function spi_message_init_with_transfers() takes a spi_message and an
array of spi_transfers. It will initialize the message and then call
spi_message_add_tail() for each transfer in the array. E.g. the following

	spi_message_init(&msg);
	spi_message_add_tail(&xfers[0], &msg);
	...
	spi_message_add_tail(&xfers[ARRAY_SIZE(xfers) - 1], &msg);

can be rewritten as

	spi_message_init_with_transfers(&msg, xfers, ARRAY_SIZE(xfers));

The second function spi_sync_transfer() takes a SPI device and an array of
spi_transfers. It will allocate a new spi_message (on the stack) and add all
transfers in the array to the message. Finally it will call spi_sync() on the
message.

E.g. the follwing

	struct spi_message msg;
	struct spi_transfer xfers[] = {
		...
	};

	spi_message_init(&msg);
	spi_message_add_tail(&xfers[0], &msg);
	...
	spi_message_add_tail(&xfers[ARRAY_SIZE(xfers) - 1], &msg);

	ret = spi_sync(spi, &msg);

can be rewritten as

	struct spi_transfer xfers[] = {
		...
	};

	ret = spi_sync_transfer(spi, xfers, ARRAY_SIZE(xfers));

A coccinelle script to find such instances will follow.

Mika Westerberg a0d2642e92 spi/pxa2xx: add support for Intel Low Power Subsystem SPI
Intel LPSS SPI is pretty much the same as the PXA27xx SPI except that it
has few additional features over the original:

	o FIFO depth is 256 entries
	o RX FIFO has one watermark
	o TX FIFO has two watermarks, low and high
	o chip select can be controlled by writing to a register

The new FIFO registers follow immediately the PXA27xx registers but then there
are some additional LPSS private registers at offset 1k or 2k from the base
address. For these private registers we add new accessors that take advantage
of drv_data->lpss_base once it is resolved.

We add a new type LPSS_SSP that can be used to distinguish the LPSS devices
from others.

Mika Westerberg 5928808ef6 spi/pxa2xx: add support for DMA engine
To be able to use DMA with this driver on non-PXA platforms we implement
support for the generic DMA engine API. This lets user to use different DMA
engines with little or no modification to the driver.

Request lines and channel numbers can be passed to the driver from the
platform specific data.

The DMA engine implementation will be selected by default even on PXA
platform. User can select the legacy DMA API by enabling Kconfig option
CONFIG_SPI_PXA2XX_PXADMA.

Mika Westerberg cd7bed0034 spi/pxa2xx: break out the private DMA API usage into a separate file
The PXA SPI driver uses PXA platform specific private DMA implementation
which does not work on non-PXA platforms. In order to use this driver on
other platforms we break out the private DMA implementation into a separate
file that gets compiled only when CONFIG_SPI_PXA2XX_PXADMA is set. The DMA
functions are stubbed out if there is no DMA implementation selected (i.e
we are building on non-PXA platform).

While we are there we can kill the dummy DMA bits in pxa2xx_spi.h as they
are not needed anymore for CE4100.

Once this is done we can add the generic DMA engine support to the driver
that allows usage of any DMA controller that implements DMA engine API.

Mika Westerberg 3343b7a6d2 spi/pxa2xx: convert to the common clk framework
Convert clk_enable() to clk_prepare_enable() and clk_disable() to
clk_disable_unprepare() respectively in order to support the common clk
framework. Otherwise we get warnings on the console as the clock is not
prepared before it is enabled.

In addition we must cache the maximum clock rate to drv_data->max_clk_rate
at probe time because clk_get_rate() cannot be called in tasklet context.

Mika Westerberg 851bacf590 spi/pxa2xx: embed the ssp_device to platform data
The spi-pxa2xx-pci glue driver had to implement pxa_ssp_request()/free() in
order to support the spi-pxa2xx platform driver. Since the ACPI enabled
platforms can use the same platform driver we would need to implement
pxa_ssp_request()/free() in some central place that can be shared by the
ACPI and PCI glue code.

Instead of doing that we can make pxa_ssp_request()/free() to be available
only when CONFIG_ARCH_PXA is set. On other arches these are being stubbed
out in preference to passing the ssp_device from the platform data
directly.

We also change the SPI bus number to be taken from ssp->port_id instead of
platform device id. This way the supporting code that passes the ssp can
decide the number (or it can set it to the same as pdev->id).

This will allow to use gpio for chip select with no modification in the
driver binding

When use the cs-gpios, the gpio number will be passed via the cs_gpio field
and the number of chip select will automatically increased with max(hw cs, gpio cs).

So if for example the controller has 2 CS lines, and the cs-gpios
property looks like this:

cs-gpios = <&gpio1 0 0> <0> <&gpio1 1 0> <&gpio1 2 0>;

Then it should be configured so that num_chipselect = 4 with the
following mapping:

cs0 : &gpio1 0 0
cs1 : native
cs2 : &gpio1 1 0
cs3 : &gpio1 2 0

David Howells 64d7155cdf UAPI: Remove empty non-UAPI Kbuild files
Remove non-UAPI Kbuild files that have become empty as a result of UAPI
disintegration.  They used to have only header-y lines in them and those have
now moved to the Kbuild files in the corresponding uapi/ directories.

Possibly these should not be removed but rather have a comment inserted to say
they are intentionally left blank.  This would make it easier to add generated
header lines in future without having to restore the infrastructure.

Note that at this point not all the UAPI disintegration parts have been merged,
so it is likely that more empty Kbuild files will turn up.

It is probably necessary to make the files non-empty to prevent the patch
program from automatically deleting them when it reduces them to nothing.

Michael Hennerich 6680884a44 Input: ad7879 - add option to correct xy axis
Sebastian Zenker reported that driver swaps x and y samples when the
touchscreen leads are connected in accordance with the datasheet
specification.  Transposed axis can be typically corrected by touch
screen calibration however this bug also negatively influences touch
pressure measurements.

Add an option to correct x and y axis.

Ivo Sieben b4161f0bb5 Support M95040 SPI EEPROM
Updated the generic SPI EEPROM driver AT25 for support of an additional address
bit in the instruction byte. Certain EEPROMS have a size that is larger than the
number of address bytes would allow (e.g. like M95040 from ST that has 512 Byte
size but uses only one address byte (A0 to A7) for addressing.) For the extra
address bit (A8, A16 or A24) bit 3 of the instruction byte is used. This
instruction bit is normally defined as don't care for other AT25 like chips.

The <linux/device.h> header includes a lot of stuff, and
it in turn gets a lot of use just for the basic "struct device"
which appears so often.

Clean up the users as follows:

1) For those headers only needing "struct device" as a pointer
in fcn args, replace the include with exactly that.

2) For headers not really using anything from device.h, simply
delete the include altogether.

3) For headers relying on getting device.h implicitly before
being included themselves, now explicitly include device.h

4) For files in which doing #1 or #2 uncovers an implicit
dependency on some other header, fix by explicitly adding
the required header(s).

Any C files that were implicitly relying on device.h to be
present have already been dealt with in advance.

Total removals from #1 and #2: 51.  Total additions coming
from #3: 9.  Total other implicit dependencies from #4: 7.

As of 3.3-rc1, there were 110, so a net removal of 42 gives
about a 38% reduction in device.h presence in include/*

Linus Walleij ffbbdd2132 spi: create a message queueing infrastructure
This rips the message queue in the PL022 driver out and pushes
it into (optional) common infrastructure. Drivers that want to
use the message pumping thread will need to define the new
per-messags transfer methods and leave the deprecated transfer()
method as NULL.

Most of the design is described in the documentation changes that
are included in this patch.

Since there is a queue that need to be stopped when the system
is suspending/resuming, two new calls are implemented for the
device drivers to call in their suspend()/resume() functions:
spi_master_suspend() and spi_master_resume().

ChangeLog v1->v2:
- Remove Kconfig entry and do not make the queue support optional
  at all, instead be more agressive and have it as part of the
  compulsory infrastructure.
- If the .transfer() method is implemented, delete print a small
  deprecation notice and do not start the transfer pump.
- Fix a bitrotted comment.

Mark Brown 0556dc340e backlight: fix broken regulator API usage in l4f00242t03
The regulator support in the l4f00242t03 is very non-idiomatic.  Rather
than requesting the regulators based on the device name and the supply
names used by the device the driver requires boards to pass system
specific supply names around through platform data.  The driver also
conditionally requests the regulators based on this platform data, adding
unneeded conditional code to the driver.

Fix this by removing the platform data and converting to the standard
idiom, also updating all in tree users of the driver.  As no datasheet
appears to be available for the LCD I'm guessing the names for the
supplies based on the existing users and I've no ability to do anything
more than compile test.

The use of regulator_set_voltage() in the driver is also problematic,
since fixed voltages are required the expectation would be that the
voltages would be fixed in the constraints set by the machines rather than
manually configured by the driver, but is less problematic.

Peter Korsgaard 0b7bb77fd5 gpio/mcp23s08: support mcp23s17 variant
mpc23s17 is very similar to the mcp23s08, except that registers are 16bit
wide, so extend the interface to work with both variants.

The s17 variant also has an additional address pin, so adjust platform
data structure to support up to 8 devices per SPI chipselect.

Feng Tang 7063c0d942 spi/dw_spi: add DMA support
dw_spi driver in upstream only supports PIO mode, and this patch
will support it to cowork with the Designware dma controller used
on Intel Moorestown platform, at the same time it provides a general
framework to support dw_spi core to cowork with dma controllers on
other platforms

It has been tested with a Option GTM501L 3G modem and Infenion 60x60
modem. To use DMA mode, DMA controller 2 of Moorestown has to be enabled

Also change the dma interface suggested by Linus Walleij.

Sebastian Andrzej Siewior 8348c259dd arm/pxa2xx: reorgazine SSP and SPI header files
The PXA-SPI driver relies on some files / defines which are arm specific
and are within the ARM tree. The CE4100 SoC which is x86 has also the
SPI core.
This patch moves the ssp and spi files from arm/mach-pxa and plat-pxa to
include/linux where the CE4100 can access them.

This move got verified by building the following defconfigs:
   cm_x2xx_defconfig corgi_defconfig em_x270_defconfig ezx_defconfig
   imote2_defconfig pxa3xx_defconfig spitz_defconfig zeus_defconfig
   raumfeld_defconfig magician_defconfig

Feng Tang 2b9603a0d7 spi: enable spi_board_info to be registered after spi_master
Currently spi_register_board_info() has to be called before its related
spi_master be registered, otherwise these board info will be just ignored.

This patch will remove this order limit, it adds a global spi master list
like the existing global board info listr. Whenever a board info or a
spi_master is registered, the spi master list or board info list
will be scanned, and a new spi device will be created if there is a
master-board info match.

Feng Tang e3e55ff585 spi/dw_spi: clean the cs_control code
commit 052dc7c45i "spi/dw_spi: conditional transfer mode change"
introduced cs_control code, which has a bug by using bit offset
for spi mode to set transfer mode in control register. Also it
forces devices who don't need cs_control to re-configure the
control registers for each spi transfer. This patch will fix them

Marc Kleine-Budde 4a22b8a4ad gpio: max730x: make pullups configurable via platformdata
The gpios on the max730x chips have support for internal pullups while in
input mode.

This patch adds support for configuring these pullups via platform data.
A new member ("input_pullup_active") to the platform data struct is
introduced.  A set bit in this variable activates the pullups while the
respective port is in input mode.  This is a compatible enhancement since
unset bits lead to disables pullups which was the default in the original
driver.

_Note_: the 4 lowest bits in "input_pullup_active" are unused because the
first 4 ports of the controller are not used, too.

Marek Szyprowski 3c8e1a84fd spi/spi-gpio: add support for controllers without MISO or MOSI pin
There are some boards that do not strictly follow SPI standard and use
only 3 wires (SCLK, MOSI or MISO, SS) for connecting some simple auxiliary
chips and controls them with GPIO based 'spi controller'. In this
configuration the MISO or MOSI line is missing (it is not required if the
chip does not transfer any data back to host or host only reads data from
chip).

This patch adds support for such non-standard configuration in GPIO-based
SPI controller. It has been tested in configuration without MISO pin.

Ernst Schwab cf32b71e98 spi/mmc_spi: SPI bus locking API, using mutex
SPI bus locking API to allow exclusive access to the SPI bus, especially, but
not limited to, for the mmc_spi driver.

Coded according to an outline from Grant Likely; here is his
specification (accidentally swapped function names corrected):

It requires 3 things to be added to struct spi_master.
- 1 Mutex
- 1 spin lock
- 1 flag.

The mutex protects spi_sync, and provides sleeping "for free"
The spinlock protects the atomic spi_async call.
The flag is set when the lock is obtained, and checked while holding
the spinlock in spi_async().  If the flag is checked, then spi_async()
must fail immediately.

The current runtime API looks like this:
spi_async(struct spi_device*, struct spi_message*);
spi_sync(struct spi_device*, struct spi_message*);

The API needs to be extended to this:
spi_async(struct spi_device*, struct spi_message*)
spi_sync(struct spi_device*, struct spi_message*)
spi_bus_lock(struct spi_master*)  /* although struct spi_device* might
be easier */
spi_bus_unlock(struct spi_master*)
spi_async_locked(struct spi_device*, struct spi_message*)
spi_sync_locked(struct spi_device*, struct spi_message*)

Drivers can only call the last two if they already hold the spi_master_lock().

spi_bus_lock() obtains the mutex, obtains the spin lock, sets the
flag, and releases the spin lock before returning.  It doesn't even
need to sleep while waiting for "in-flight" spi_transactions to
complete because its purpose is to guarantee no additional
transactions are added.  It does not guarantee that the bus is idle.

spi_bus_unlock() clears the flag and releases the mutex, which will
wake up any waiters.

The difference between spi_async() and spi_async_locked() is that the
locked version bypasses the check of the lock flag.  Both versions
need to obtain the spinlock.

The difference between spi_sync() and spi_sync_locked() is that
spi_sync() must hold the mutex while enqueuing a new transfer.
spi_sync_locked() doesn't because the mutex is already held.  Note
however that spi_sync must *not* continue to hold the mutex while
waiting for the transfer to complete, otherwise only one transfer
could be queued up at a time!

Almost no code needs to be written.  The current spi_async() and
spi_sync() can probably be renamed to __spi_async() and __spi_sync()
so that spi_async(), spi_sync(), spi_async_locked() and
spi_sync_locked() can just become wrappers around the common code.

spi_sync() is protected by a mutex because it can sleep
spi_async() needs to be protected with a flag and a spinlock because
it can be called atomically and must not sleep

Anatolij Gustschin 7804302b14 Input: ads7846 - allow specifying irq trigger type in platform data
On some platforms, for example with GPIO interrupts on mpc5121,
it is not possible to configure falling edge interrupts.

hartleys 41c4221ca6 spi: move bitbang txrx utility functions to private header
A number of files in drivers/spi fail checkincludes.pl due to the double
include of <linux/spi/spi_bitbang.h>.

The first include is needed to get the struct spi_bitbang definition and
the spi_bitbang_* function prototypes.

The second include happens after defining EXPAND_BITBANG_TXRX to get the
inlined bitbang_txrx_* utility functions.

The <linux/spi/spi_bitbang.h> header is also included by a number of other
spi drivers, as well as some arch/ code, in order to use struct spi_bitbang
and the associated functions.

To fix the double include, and remove any potential confusion about it, move
the inlined bitbang_txrx_* functions to a new private header in drivers/spi
and also remove the need to define EXPAND_BITBANG_TXRX.

Grazvydas Ignotas a02a295680 wl1251: add support for dedicated IRQ line
wl1251 has WLAN_IRQ pin for generating interrupts to host processor,
which is mandatory in SPI mode and optional in SDIO mode (which can
use SDIO interrupts instead). However TI recommends using deditated
IRQ line for SDIO too.

Add support for using dedicated interrupt line with SDIO, but also leave
ability to switch to SDIO interrupts in case it's needed.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files.  percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed.  Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability.  As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
  only the necessary includes are there.  ie. if only gfp is used,
  gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
  blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
  to its surrounding.  It's put in the include block which contains
  core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
  alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
  doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
  because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
  an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
   over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
   and ~3000 slab.h inclusions.  The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked.  Some didn't need the inclusion,
   some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
   embedding .c file was more appropriate for others.  This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
   from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
   APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
   editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
   files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell.  Most gfp.h
   inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
   wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros.  Each
   slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
   were fixed.  CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
   distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
   more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
   build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
   a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Alberto Panizzo e7fb9c4ad3 backlight: Add Epson L4F00242T03 LCD driver
The Epson LCD L4F00242T03 is mounted on the Freescale i.MX31 PDK board. 
Based upon Marek Vasut work in l4f00242t03.c, this driver provides
basic init and power on/off functionality for this device through the
sysfs lcd interface.

Unfortunately Datasheet for this device are not available and
all the control sequences sent to the display were copied from the
freescale driver that in the i.MX31 Linux BSP.

As in the i.MX31PDK board the core and io suppliers are voltage
regulators, that functionality is embedded here, but not strict.

Michael Hennerich 06a09124b5 Input: ads7846 - add support for AD7843 parts
The AD7873 is almost identical to the ADS7846; the only difference is
related to the Power Management bits PD0 and PD1.  This results in a
slightly different PENIRQ enable behavior.  For the AD7873, VREF should
be turned off during differential measurements.

So, add the AD7873/43 to the list of driver supported devices, and prevent
VREF usage during differential/ratiometric conversion modes.

Wolfram Sang e952805d2d gpio: add driver for MAX7300 I2C GPIO extender
Add the MAX7300-I2C variant of the MAX7301-SPI version.  Both chips share
the same core logic, so the generic part of the in-kernel SPI-driver is
refactored into a generic part.  The I2C and SPI specific funtions are
then wrapped into seperate drivers picking up the generic part.

George Shore 83fe518a83 spi/dw_spi: enable platform specific chipselect.
The driver core allows for a platform-specific chipselect assert/deassert
function, however the chipselect function in the core doesn't take advantage
of this fact.

This enables the use of a custom function, should it be defined.

Feng Tang 552e450929 spi/dw_spi: refine the IRQ mode working flow
Now dw_spi core fully supports 3 transfer modes: pure polling,
DMA and IRQ mode. IRQ mode will use the FIFO half empty as
the IRQ trigger, so each interface driver need set the fifo_len,
so that core driver can handle it properly

Magnus Damm 8051effcbc spi: SuperH MSIOF SPI Master driver V2
This patch is V2 of SPI Master support for the SuperH MSIOF.
Full duplex, spi mode 0-3, active high cs, 3-wire and lsb
first should all be supported, but the driver has so far
only been tested with "mmc_spi".

The MSIOF hardware comes with 32-bit FIFOs for receive and
transmit, and this driver simply breaks the SPI messages
into FIFO-sized chunks. The MSIOF hardware manages the pins
for clock, receive and transmit (sck/miso/mosi), but the chip
select pin is managed by software and must be configured as
a regular GPIO pin by the board code.

Performance wise there is still room for improvement, but
on a Ecovec board with the built-in sh7724 MSIOF0 this driver
gets Mini-sd read speeds of about half a megabyte per second.

Future work include better clock setup and merging of 8-bit
transfers into 32-bit words to reduce interrupt load and
improve throughput.

Richard Röjfors c9da2e1255 xilinx_spi: add support for the DS570 IP.
This patch adds in support for the DS570 IP.

It's register compatible with the DS464, but adds support for 8/16/32 SPI.

The 8/16/32 support is added by attaching callbacks reading/writing the
proper amount of data. To indicate to the driver which amount of bits
to use a new field is introduced in the platform data struct.

Richard Röjfors 86fc593599 xilinx_spi: Switch to iomem functions and support little endian.
This patch changes the out_(be)(8|16|32) and in_(be)(8|16|32) calls to 32 bits ioread/iowrite.

The read and write function are attached to the internal struct as callbacks, callback
is selected depending on endianess.

This will also build on platforms not supporting the in/out calls for instance x86.

David Brownell 568d0697f4 spi: handle TX-only/RX-only
Support two new half-duplex SPI implementation restrictions, for links
that talk to TX-only or RX-only devices.  (Existing half-duplex flavors
support both transfer directions, just not at the same time.)

Move spi_async() into the spi.c core, and stop inlining it.  Then make
that function perform error checks and reject messages that demand more
than the underlying controller can support.

Based on a patch from Marek Szyprowski which did this only for the
bitbanged GPIO driver.

Anton Vorontsov 75368bf6c2 spi: add support for device table matching
With this patch spi drivers can use standard spi_driver.id_table and
MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() mechanisms to bind against the devices.  Just like
we do with I2C drivers.

This is useful when a single driver supports several variants of devices
but it is not possible to detect them in run-time (like non-JEDEC chips
probing in drivers/mtd/devices/m25p80.c), and when platform_data usage is
overkill.

This patch also makes life a lot easier on OpenFirmware platforms, since
with OF we extensively use proper device IDs in modaliases.

initialization and powerdown sequences.  No further defails are specified
in the datasheet about the initialization/powerdown sequence, just the
magic numbers that have to be sent over SPI bus.  This LCD can be found in
the Aeronix Zipit Z2 handheld.

David Brownell 70d6027ff2 spi: add spi_master flag word
Add a new spi_master.flags word listing constraints relevant to that
controller.  Define the first constraint bit: a half duplex restriction.
Include that constraint in the OMAP1 MicroWire controller driver.

Have the mmc_spi host be the first customer of this flag.  Its coding
relies heavily on full duplex transfers, so it must fail when the
underlying controller driver won't perform them.

(The spi_write_then_read routine could use it too: use the
temporarily-withdrawn full-duplex speedup unless this flag is set, in
which case the existing code applies.  Similarly, any spi_master
implementing only SPI_3WIRE should set the flag.)

David Brownell b55f627fee spi: new spi->mode bits
Add two new spi_device.mode bits to accomodate more protocol options, and
pass them through to usermode drivers:

 * SPI_NO_CS ... a second 3-wire variant, where the chipselect
   line is removed instead of a data line; transfers are still
   full duplex.

   This obviously has STRONG protocol implications since the
   chipselect transitions can't be used to synchronize state
   transitions with the SPI master.

 * SPI_READY ... defines open drain signal that's pulled low
   to pause the clock.  This defines a 5-wire variant (normal
   4-wire SPI plus READY) and two 4-wire variants (READY plus
   each of the 3-wire flavors).

   Such hardware flow control can be a big win.  There are ADC
   converters and flash chips that expose READY signals, but not
   many host controllers support it today.

The spi_bitbang code should be changed to use SPI_NO_CS instead of its
current nonportable hack.  That's a mode most hardware can easily support
(unlike SPI_READY).

David Brownell e7db06b5d5 spi: move more spi_setup() functionality into core
Move some common spi_setup() error checks into the SPI framework from the
spi_master controller drivers:

 - Add a new "mode_bits" field to spi_master

 - Use that in spi_setup to validate the spi->mode value being
   requested.  Setting this new field is now mandatory for any
   controller supporting more than vanilla SPI_MODE_0.

 - Update all spi_master drivers to:

     * Initialize that field
     * Remove current spi_setup() checks using that value.

This is a net minor code shrink.

This is a net minor source code shrink, and supports enhancments found in
some follow-up patches.

Sebastian Andrzej Siewior 4d1d49858c net/libertas: remove GPIO-CS handling in SPI interface code
This removes the dependency on GPIO framework and lets the SPI host
driver handle the chip select. The SPI host driver is required to keep
the CS active for the entire message unless cs_change says otherwise.
This patch collects the two/three single SPI transfers into a message.
Also the delay in read path in case use_dummy_writes are not used is
moved into the SPI host driver.

David Brownell 6e538aaf50 spi: documentation: emphasise spi_master.setup() semantics
This is a doc-only patch which I hope will reduce the number of
spi_master controller driver patches starting out with a common
implementation bug.

(As in: almost every spi_master driver I see starts out with its
version of this bug.  Sigh.)

It just re-emphasizes that the setup() method may be called for one
device while a transfer is active on another ...  which means that most
driver implementations shouldn't touch any registers.

Some SPI controllers have restrictions on DMAable buffers alignemt.
Currently if the buffer supplied by protocol driver is not properly
aligned, the controller silently performs transfer in PIO mode.  Addition

Michael Buesch bfb9bcdbda spi-gpio: allow operation without CS signal
Change spi-gpio so that it is possible to drive SPI communications over
GPIO without the need for a chipselect signal.

This is useful in very small setups where there's only one slave device
on the bus.

This patch does not affect existing setups.

I use this for a tiny communication channel between an embedded device and
a microcontroller.  There are not enough GPIOs available for chipselect
and it's not needed anyway in this case.

Colin McCabe d2b21f1917 libertas: if_spi, driver for libertas GSPI devices
Add initial support for libertas devices using a GSPI interface.  This has
been tested with the 8686.

GSPI is intended to be used on embedded systems. Board-specific parameters are
required (see libertas_spi.h).

Thanks to everyone who took a look at the earlier versions of the patch.
