RPC server procedures are normally expected to return a __be32 encoded
status value of type 'enum rpc_accept_stat', however at least one function
wants to return an authentication status of type 'enum rpc_auth_stat'

This patch adds functionality to allow this.

If no handler (such as rpc.mountd) has opened
a cache 'channel', the sunrpc cache responds to
all lookup requests with -ENOENT. This is particularly
important for the auth.unix.gid cache which is
optional.
If the channel was open briefly and an upcall was written to it,
this upcall remains pending even when the handler closes the
channel. When an upcall is pending, the code currently
doesn't check if there are still listeners, it only performs
that check before sending an upcall.
As the cache treads a recently closes channel (closed less than
30 seconds ago) as "potentially still open", there is a
reasonable sized window when a request can become pending
in a closed channel, and thereby block lookups indefinitely.
This can easily be demonstrated by running
cat /proc/net/rpc/auth.unix.gid/channel
and then trying to mount an NFS filesystem from this host. It
will block indefinitely (unless mountd is run with --manage-gids,
or krb5 is used).
When cache_check() finds that an upcall is pending, it should
perform the "cache_listeners_exist()" exist test. If no
listeners do exist, the request should be negated.
With this change in place, there can still be a 30second wait on
mount, until the cache gives up waiting for a handler to come
back, but this is much better than an indefinite wait.

A recent commit added a call to cache_fresh_locked()
when an expired item was found.
The call sets the CACHE_VALID flag, so it is important
that the item actually is valid.
There are two ways it could be valid:
1/ If ->update has been called to fill in relevant content
2/ if CACHE_NEGATIVE is set, to say that content doesn't exist.
An expired item that is waiting for an update will be neither.
Setting CACHE_VALID will mean that a subsequent call to cache_put()
will be likely to dereference uninitialised pointers.
So we must make sure the item is valid, and we already have code to do
that in try_to_negate_entry(). This takes the hash lock and so cannot
be used directly, so take out the two lines that we need and use them.
Now cache_fresh_locked() is certain to be called only on
a valid item.

Pull more NFS client fixes from Anna Schumaker:
"Three fixes this time.
Nicolas's is for xprtrdma completion vector allocation on single-core
systems. Greg's adds an error check when allocating a debugfs dentry.
And Ben's is an additional fix for nfs_page_async_flush() to prevent
pages from accidentally getting truncated.
Summary:
- Make sure Send CQ is allocated on an existing compvec
- Properly check debugfs dentry before using it
- Don't use page_file_mapping() after removing a page"

While trying to reproduce a reported kernel panic on arm64, I discovered
that AUTH_GSS basically doesn't work at all with older enctypes on arm64
systems with CONFIG_VMAP_STACK enabled. It turns out there still a few
places using stack memory with scatterlists, causing krb5_encrypt() and
krb5_decrypt() to produce incorrect results (or a BUG if CONFIG_DEBUG_SG
is enabled).
Tested with cthon on v4.0/v4.1/v4.2 with krb5/krb5i/krb5p using
des3-cbc-sha1 and arcfour-hmac-md5.

au_rslack is significantly smaller than (au_cslack << 2). Using
that value results in smaller receive buffers. In some cases this
eliminates an extra segment in Reply chunks (RPC/RDMA).

Currently rpc_inline_rcv_pages() uses au_rslack to estimate the
size of the upper layer reply header. This is fine for auth flavors
where au_verfsize == au_rslack.
However, some auth flavors have more going on. krb5i for example has
two more words after the verifier, and another blob following the
RPC message. The calculation involving au_rslack pushes the upper
layer reply header too far into the rcv_buf.
au_rslack is still valuable: it's the amount of buffer space needed
for the reply, and is used when allocating the reply buffer. We'll
keep that.
But, add a new field that can be used to properly estimate the
location of the upper layer header in each RPC reply, based on the
auth flavor in use.

Certain NFS results (eg. READLINK) might expect a data payload that
is not an exact multiple of 4 bytes. In this case, XDR encoding
is required to pad that payload so its length on the wire is a
multiple of 4 bytes. The constants that define the maximum size of
each NFS result do not appear to account for this extra word.
In each case where the data payload is to be received into pages:
- 1 word is added to the size of the receive buffer allocated by
call_allocate
- rpc_inline_rcv_pages subtracts 1 word from @hdrsize so that the
extra buffer space falls into the rcv_buf's tail iovec
- If buf->pagelen is word-aligned, an XDR pad is not needed and
is thus removed from the tail

prepare_reply_buffer() and its NFSv4 equivalents expose the details
of the RPC header and the auth slack values to upper layer
consumers, creating a layering violation, and duplicating code.
Remedy these issues by adding a new RPC client API that hides those
details from upper layers in a common helper function.

The key action of xdr_buf_trim() is that it shortens buf->len, the
length of the xdr_buf's content. The other actions -- shortening the
head, pages, and tail components -- are actually not necessary. In
particular, changing the size of those components can corrupt the
RPC message contained in the buffer. This is an accident waiting to
happen rather than a current bug, as far as we know.

tsh_size was added to accommodate transports that send a pre-amble
before each RPC message. However, this assumes the pre-amble is
fixed in size, which isn't true for some transports. That makes
tsh_size not very generic.
Also I'd like to make the estimation of RPC send and receive
buffer sizes more precise. tsh_size doesn't currently appear to be
accounted for at all by call_allocate.
Therefore let's just remove the tsh_size concept, and make the only
transports that have a non-zero tsh_size employ a direct approach.

We don't want READ payloads that are partially in the head iovec and
in the page buffer because this requires pull-up, which can be
expensive.
The NFS/RPC client tries hard to predict the size of the head iovec
so that the incoming READ data payload lands only in the page
vector, but it doesn't always get it right. To help diagnose such
problems, add a trace point in the logic that decodes READ-like
operations that reports whether pull-up is being done.

In very rare cases, an NFS READ operation might predict that the
non-payload part of the RPC Call is large. For instance, an
NFSv4 COMPOUND with a large GETATTR result, in combination with a
large Kerberos credential, could push the non-payload part to be
several kilobytes.
If the non-payload part is larger than the connection's inline
threshold, the client is required to provision a Reply chunk. The
current Linux client does not check for this case. There are two
obvious ways to handle it:
a. Provision a Write chunk for the payload and a Reply chunk for
the non-payload part
b. Provision a Reply chunk for the whole RPC Reply
Some testing at a recent NFS bake-a-thon showed that servers can
mostly handle a. but there are some corner cases that do not work
yet. b. already works (it has to, to handle krb5i/p), but could be
somewhat less efficient. However, I expect this scenario to be very
rare -- no-one has reported a problem yet.
So I'm going to implement b. Sometime later I will provide some
patches to help make b. a little more efficient by more carefully
choosing the Reply chunk's segment sizes to ensure the payload is
optimally aligned.

debugfs can now report an error code if something went wrong instead of
just NULL. So if the return value is to be used as a "real" dentry, it
needs to be checked if it is an error before dereferencing it.
This is now happening because of ff9fb72bc0 ("debugfs: return error
values, not NULL"), but why debugfs files are not being created properly
is an older issue, probably one that has always been there and should
probably be looked at...

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo entry[];
};
instance = kmalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo), GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can
now use the new struct_size() helper:
instance = kmalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL);
This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle.

In the rpc server, When something happens that might be reason to wake
up a thread to do something, what we do is
- modify xpt_flags, sk_sock->flags, xpt_reserved, or
xpt_nr_rqsts to indicate the new situation
- call svc_xprt_enqueue() to decide whether to wake up a thread.
svc_xprt_enqueue may require multiple conditions to be true before
queueing up a thread to handle the xprt. In the SMP case, one of the
other CPU's may have set another required condition, and in that case,
although both CPUs run svc_xprt_enqueue(), it's possible that neither
call sees the writes done by the other CPU in time, and neither one
recognizes that all the required conditions have been set. A socket
could therefore be ignored indefinitely.
Add memory barries to ensure that any svc_xprt_enqueue() call will
always see the conditions changed by other CPUs before deciding to
ignore a socket.
I've never seen this race reported. In the unlikely event it happens,
another event will usually come along and the problem will fix itself.
So I don't think this is worth backporting to stable.

Two and a half years ago, the client was changed to use gathered
Send for larger inline messages, in commit 655fec6987 ("xprtrdma:
Use gathered Send for large inline messages"). Several fixes were
required because there are a few in-kernel device drivers whose
max_sge is 3, and these were broken by the change.
Apparently my memory is going, because some time later, I submitted
commit 25fd86eca1 ("svcrdma: Don't overrun the SGE array in
svc_rdma_send_ctxt"), and after that, commit f3c1fd0ee2 ("svcrdma:
Reduce max_send_sges"). These too incorrectly assumed in-kernel
device drivers would have more than a few Send SGEs available.
The fix for the server side is not the same. This is because the
fundamental problem on the server is that, whether or not the client
has provisioned a chunk for the RPC reply, the server must squeeze
even the most complex RPC replies into a single RDMA Send. Failing
in the send path because of Send SGE exhaustion should never be an
option.
Therefore, instead of failing when the send path runs out of SGEs,
switch to using a bounce buffer mechanism to handle RPC replies that
are too complex for the device to send directly. That allows us to
remove the max_sge check to enable drivers with small max_sge to
work again.

When using Kerberos with v4.20, I've observed frequent connection
loss on heavy workloads. I traced it down to the client underrunning
the GSS sequence number window -- NFS servers are required to drop
the RPC with the low sequence number, and also drop the connection
to signal that an RPC was dropped.
Bisected to commit 918f3c1fe8 ("SUNRPC: Improve latency for

Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.
It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.
A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.
This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.
There were a couple of notable cases:
- csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.
- the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
really used it)
- microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout
but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.
I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

Multipathing: In case of NFSv3, rpc_clnt_test_and_add_xprt() adds
the xprt to xprt switch (i.e. xps) if rpc_call_null_helper() returns
success. But in case of NFSv4.1, it needs to do EXCHANGEID to verify
the path along with check for session trunking.
Add the xprt in nfs4_test_session_trunk() only when
nfs4_detect_session_trunking() returns success. Also release refcount
hold by rpc_clnt_setup_test_and_add_xprt().

It's OK to sleep here, we just don't want to recurse into the filesystem
as a writeout could be waiting on this.
Future work: the documentation for GFP_NOFS says "Please try to avoid
using this flag directly and instead use memalloc_nofs_{save,restore} to
mark the whole scope which cannot/shouldn't recurse into the FS layer
with a short explanation why. All allocation requests will inherit
GFP_NOFS implicitly."
But I'm not sure where to do this. Should the workqueue be arranging
that for us in the case of workqueues created with WQ_MEM_RECLAIM?

If a reply has been processed but the RPC is later retransmitted
anyway, the req->rl_reply field still contains the only pointer to
the old rpcrdma rep. When the next reply comes in, the reply handler
will stomp on the rl_reply field, leaking the old rep.
A trace event is added to capture such leaks.
This problem seems to be worsened by the restructuring of the RPC
Call path in v4.20. Fully addressing this issue will require at
least a re-architecture of the disconnect logic, which is not
appropriate during -rc.

Commit f287762308 ("xprtrdma: Chain Send to FastReg WRs") was
written before commit ce5b371782 ("xprtrdma: Replace all usage of
"frmr" with "frwr""), but was merged afterwards. Thus it still
refers to FRMR and MWs.
