Whenever bnx2x fails to transmit a packet due to a full Tx ring, if the
ring size is zero (indicating an FCoE ring) driver filters the packet out
and gracefully continues.
Driver also gathers statistics on such filtered packets.

Taking PHY lock is not required on some older designs, but we are removing this
complication and always taking it since it is always required on newer designs
and does not worth the code complication on the older boards.
Taking PHY lock was initially required only on specific boards which had their
MDC/MDIO bus crossed, but since this lock is now always required, for example,
when NCSI is present, the PHY lock will always be taken.

Per measurements, the SFP+ suffered from small current leakage in two cases:
- When no module was plugged and TX laser was disabled. The fix was to enable
it, and when module is plugged in, check if it needs to be disabled.
- When over-current event occurs due to invalid SFP+ module, the HW basically
shuts down the current for this module, but the SW needs to complete this
by issuing a power down via a GPIO.

When drivers works on top of an old bootcode, it is theoretically subjected to
MDC/MDIO failures since the MDIO clock is set in the beginning of each sequence,
rather than per CL45 command. On rare cases an old bootcodes may change that in
the middle, so to address that, the MDIO clock is set for each CL45 access.
In addition, setting the MDIO clock is now done per EMAC base, and
not per port number, since a specific port can potentially use both EMACs for
different PHY accesses.

The watchdog will not trigger when the carrier is off when reconfiguring
the device. Because carrier state is now off during reset, we need to
introduce a link_up flag to keep track of link state during PHY setup.

This patch replaces the BCM_CNIC define with a flag which can change at run-time
and which does not use the CONFIG_CNIC kconfig option.
For the PF/hypervisor driver cnic is always supported, however allocation of
cnic resources and configuration of the HW for offload mode is done only when
the cnic module registers bnx2x.

This patch updates the driver-FW HSI to support changes to the 'update' ramrod
(FW supports this change since 7.8.2). This ramrod is sent when the cnic module
registers bnx2x, to enable changing the nic_mode configuration in HW at

When SFP+ module is plugged in after driver is already loaded, it may not be
recognized, so set SFP module recognition time up to 300ms, without resetting

Commit d760fc37b0 caused
1G functions to allocate rx rings which were 1/10 of the
size of 10G functions' rx rings.
However, it also caused 10G functions on 5771x boards to
allocate small rings, which limits their possible (default)
rx throughput. This patch causes all 10G functions to use
rings of intended length by default.

DRV_MODULE_VERSION is smaller than the ->version buffer so the memcpy()
copies 1 byte past the end of the string. It's not super harmful, but
it makes the static checkers complain.

time as TIGON3=y (typically randconfigs) which will cause a link

Fix it as suggested by DaveM[1] by having the Kconfig logic simply

This patch moves the bnx2x and cnic drivers into using FW 7.8.2
which was recently submitted into the linux-firmware tree.
A short summary of minor bugs fixed by this FW:
1. In switch dependent mode, fix several issues regarding inner vlan
vs. DCB priorities.
2. iSCSI - not all packets were completed on a forward channel.
3. DCB - fixed for 4-port devices.
4. Fixed false parity reported in CAM memories when operating near -5%
on the 1.0V core supply.
5. ETS default settings are set to fairness between traffic classes
(rather than strict priority), and uses the same chip receive buffer
configuration for both PFC and pause.

Simple round-robin hardware TX scheduling can cause starvation of TX rings
with small packets when other TX rings have large TSO or jumbo packets.
In the simplest case, consider 2 TCP streams running in opposite
directions. The TSO TX traffic will hash to one ring and the ACKs for the
incoming data on a different TCP connection will hash to a different TX
ring. The hardware fetches one complete TSO packet (up to 64K data)
before servicing the other TX ring. When it gets to the other TX ring, it
will only fetch one packet (64-byte ACK packet in this case). After that,
it will switch back to the 1st ring filled with more TSO packets. Because
only one ACK can go out roughly every 500 usec in this case, the incoming
data rate becomes very low.

Since version 7.4 the FW configures in the pci config space the max
number of interrupts available to the physical function, instead of
the exact number to use.
This causes a false warning in driver when comparing the number of
configured interrupts to the number about to be used.

Commit d6cb3e41 "bnx2x: fix checksum validation" caused a performance
regression for IPv6. Rx checksum offload does not work. IPv6 packets
are passed to the stack with CHECKSUM_NONE.
The hardware obviously cannot perform IP checksum validation for IPv6,
because there is no checksum in the IPv6 header. This should not prevent
us from setting CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY.

Commit a334872224 added afex support but lacked
several logical changes. This lack can cause afex to crash, and also
have a slight effect on other flows (i.e., driver always assumes the Tx ring
has less available buffers than what it actually has).
This patch adds the missing segments, fixing said issues.

Prevent updating the xmac PFC configuration when using a link speed
slower than 10G -the umac block is responsible for 1G or slower connections,
therefore it is possible the xmac block is reset when connection is slower.

FW needs the driver statistics for management. Current logic is broken
in that the function that gathers the port statistics does not copy
its own statistics to a place where the FW can use it.
This patch causes every function that can pass statistics to the FW to
do so.

During traffic when DCB is enabled, it is possible for multiple instances
of statistics queries to be sent to the chip - this may cause the FW to assert.
This patch prevents the sending of an additional instance of statistics query
while the previous query hasn't completed.

Change various flows in the bnx2x driver which up until now flapped
the link - these flows now benefit from the link flap avoidance mechanism.
This includes the removal of the link reset made upon nic init, as it is
possible the link is already active at that time.

Various flows in the bnx2x driver cause a link-flap - if the link
is up, it would be toggled down (after a mac/phy reset) and then
taken back up.
In many of these cases, there is no need to do cause such a flap,
as the associated flows should not actually affect the link.
This patch adds the 'Link Flap Avoidance' mechanism, which allows
the driver to better determine if a given flow requires a link change,
and thus minimize the number of link flaps caused by the driver.

Separate the interrupt setting part of each external PHY to a specific
function.
This allows calling the interrupt setting in case of link-flap avoidance,
since some link owners may not enable the interrupt on their own.

In order to lay the foundation for 1G EEE support, several segments of code
which are common to both 1G and 10G EEE configurations were extracted from
the 10G EEE configuration flow to their own functions.
E.g., bnx2x_eee_initial_config, bnx2x_eee_advertise, bnx2x_eee_disable, etc.
The rest of the EEE functions were relocated and placed in a single,
continuous section of the file.

Move netif_napi_add for all queues from the probe call to the open call, to
avoid the case that napi objects are added for queues that may eventually not
be initialized and activated. With the former behavior, the driver could crash
when netpoll was calling ndo_poll_controller.

During probe, every function probed clears the recovery registers from
all functions on its path - thus signaling that given a future recovery
event, there will be no need to wait for those functions.
This is a flawed behaviour - each function should only be responsible
for its own bit.
Since this registers are handled during the load/unload routines,
this cleanup is removed altogether.

The existing previous driver unload flow is flawed, causing the probe of
functions reaching the 'uncommon fork' in flr-capable devices to fail.
This patch resolves this, as well as fixing the flow for hypervisors which
disable flr capabilities from functions as they pass them as PDA to VMs,
as we cannot base the flow on the pci configuration space.

In bnx2x_mcast_enqueue_cmd() we'll leak the memory allocated to
'new_cmd' if we hit the deafault case of the 'switch (cmd)'.
Add a 'kfree(new_cmd)' to that case to avoid the leak.

After Power-on-reset, the 5719's TX DMA length registers may contain
uninitialized values and cause TX DMA to stall. Check for invalid
values and set a register bit to flush the TX channels. The bit
needs to be turned off after the DMA channels have been flushed.

In boards with 4-ports, Tx LPI statistics were gathered incorrectly.

The 57840 boards come in two flavours: 2 x 20G and 4 x 10G.
To better differentiate between the two flavours, a separate device ID
was assigned to each.
The silicon default value is still the currently supported 57840 device ID
(0x168d), and since a user can damage the nvram (e.g., 'ethtool -E')
the driver will still support this device ID to allow the user to amend the
nvram back into a supported configuration.
Notice this patch contains lines longer than 80 characters (strings).

If the PCI block has reset, the memory enable bit will be reset and
the device will not respond to MMIO access. bnx2_reset_task() currently
will not recover when this happens. Add code to detect this condition
and restore the PCI state. This scenario has been reported by some
users.

The driver currently skips setting this flag if the VPD contains the
firmware version string. We fix this by separating the probing of NCSI
from the reading of the NCSI version string. The APE_HAS_NCSI flag is
needed to properly read sensor data.

The Apple Thunderbolt ethernet device is already listed in the driver,

In rare cases, bnx2x_free_tx_skbs() can unmap the wrong DMA address
when it gets to the last entry of the tx ring. We were not using
the proper macro to skip the last entry when advancing the tx index.

If list_for_each_entry, etc complete a traversal of the list, the iterator
variable ends up pointing to an address at an offset from the list head,
and not a meaningful structure. Thus this value should not be used after
the end of the iterator. There does not seem to be a meaningful value to
provide to netdev_warn. Replace with pr_warn, since pr_err is used
elsewhere.
This problem was found using Coccinelle (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/).

l4_rxhash is set on skb when rxhash is obtained from canonical 4-tuple
over transport ports/addresses.
We can set skb->l4_rxhash for all incoming TCP packets on bnx2x for
free, as cqe status contains a hash type information.

commit a1c7fff7e1 (net: netdev_alloc_skb() use build_skb()) broke b44 on
some 64bit machines.
It appears b44 and b43 use __netdev_alloc_skb() instead of alloc_skb()
for their bounce buffers.
There is no need to add an extra NET_SKB_PAD reservation for bounce
buffers :
- In TX path, NET_SKB_PAD is useless
- In RX path in b44, we force a copy of incoming frames if
GFP_DMA allocations were needed.

introduced a regression as older versions of userspace app still rely
on this mmap. Restore the mmap functionality and get the base address
from pci_resource_start() as the nedev->base_addr has been deprecated for
PCI devices.

We register with bnx2x before we allocate ctx_tbl structure, so it is
possible for bnx2x to call cnic_ctl before the structure is allocated.
This can sometimes cause NULL pointer dereference of cp->ctx_tbl. We
fix this by adding simple checking for valid state before proceeding.
The cnic_ctl call is RCU protected so we don't have to deal with race
conditions.
Because of the additional checking, we need to finish the shutdown
before clearing the CNIC_UP flag.

Currently the CNIC-related L2 CIDs (for sending control FCoE / iSCSI packets)
were at fixed position, according to the maximal number of RSS queues multiplied
by the number of traffic-classes. This change makes the CIDs dynamic, as they
are defined to be right after the highest RSS CID. This decreases the memory
allocated for the context.

In the current scheme the transmission queues of traffic-class 0 were 0-15, the
transmission queues of traffic-class 1 were 16-31 and so on. If the number of
RSS queues was smaller than 16, there were gaps in transmission queues
numbering, as well as in CIDs numbering. This is both a waste (especially when
16 is increased to 64), and may causes problems with flushing queues when
reducing the number of RSS queues (using ethtool -L). The new scheme eliminates
the gaps.

With increased number of RSS queues, each multiplied by the number of traffic-
classes, we may have up to 64*3=192 CIDs. The current driver scheme with regard
to context allocation supports only 64 CIDs. The new scheme enables scatter-
gatehr list of pages for the context.

This change enables to control via ethtool whether to do UDP RSS on 2-tupple
(IP source / destination only) or on 4-tupple (include UDP source / destination
