From 81b6c999897919d5a16fedc018fe375dbab091c5 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Hannes Reinecke Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2017 14:21:37 +0100 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] scsi: core: check for device state in __scsi_remove_target() As it turned out device_get() doesn't use kref_get_unless_zero(), so we will be always getting a device pointer. Consequently, we need to check for the device state in __scsi_remove_target() to avoid tripping over deleted objects. Otherwise the I/O will be continuously requeued and will cause a deadlock in the case where disks are being hot added and removed. sd_probe_async will wait forever for its I/O to complete while holding scsi_sd_probe_domain. Also returning the default error of DID_TARGET_FAILURE causes multipath to not retry the I/O resulting in applications receiving I/O errors before a failover can occur.
