async_tx: add support for asynchronous GF multiplication [ Based on an original patch by Yuri Tikhonov ] This adds support for doing asynchronous GF multiplication by adding two additional functions to the async_tx API: async_gen_syndrome() does simultaneous XOR and Galois field multiplication of sources. async_syndrome_val() validates the given source buffers against known P and Q values. When a request is made to run async_pq against more than the hardware maximum number of supported sources we need to reuse the previous generated P and Q values as sources into the next operation. Care must be taken to remove Q from P' and P from Q'. For example to perform a 5 source pq op with hardware that only supports 4 sources at a time the following approach is taken: p, q = PQ(src0, src1, src2, src3, COEF({01}, {02}, {04}, {08})) p', q' = PQ(p, q, q, src4, COEF({00}, {01}, {00}, {10})) p' = p + q + q + src4 = p + src4 q' = {00}*p + {01}*q + {00}*q + {10}*src4 = q + {10}*src4 Note: 4 is the minimum acceptable maxpq otherwise we punt to synchronous-software path. The DMA_PREP_CONTINUE flag indicates to the driver to reuse p and q as sources (in the above manner) and fill the remaining slots up to maxpq with the new sources/coefficients. Note1: Some devices have native support for P+Q continuation and can skip this extra work. Devices with this capability can advertise it with dma_set_maxpq. It is up to each driver how to handle the DMA_PREP_CONTINUE flag. Note2: The api supports disabling the generation of P when generating Q, this is ignored by the synchronous path but is implemented by some dma devices to save unnecessary writes. In this case the continuation algorithm is simplified to only reuse Q as a source. Cc: H. #include <linux/dma-mapping.h>
#include <linux/raid/pq.h>
#include <linux/async_tx.h>
include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. Cc: H. async_tx: add support for asynchronous GF multiplication [ Based on an original patch by Yuri Tikhonov ] This adds support for doing asynchronous GF multiplication by adding two additional functions to the async_tx API: async_gen_syndrome() does simultaneous XOR and Galois field multiplication of sources. async_syndrome_val() validates the given source buffers against known P and Q values. Note2: The api supports disabling the generation of P when generating Q, this is ignored by the synchronous path but is implemented by some dma devices to save unnecessary writes. md/raid5: activate raid6 rmw feature Glue it altogehter. The raid6 rmw path should work the same as the already existing raid5 logic. So emulate the prexor handling/flags and split functions as needed. 1) Enable xor_syndrome() in the async layer. 2) Split ops_run_prexor() into RAID4/5 and RAID6 logic. Xor the syndrome at the start of a rmw run as we did it before for the single parity. 3) Take care of rmw run in ops_run_reconstruct6(). Again process only the changed pages to get syndrome back into sync. 4) Enhance set_syndrome_sources() to fill NULL pages if we are in a rmw run. The lower layers will calculate start & end pages from that and call the xor_syndrome() correspondingly. 5) Adapt the several places where we ignored Q handling up to now. async_tx: add support for asynchronous GF multiplication [ Based on an original patch by Yuri Tikhonov ] This adds support for doing asynchronous GF multiplication by adding two additional functions to the async_tx API: async_gen_syndrome() does simultaneous XOR and Galois field multiplication of sources. async_syndrome_val() validates the given source buffers against known P and Q values. Note2: The api supports disabling the generation of P when generating Q, this is ignored by the synchronous path but is implemented by some dma devices to save unnecessary writes. async_tx: add support for asynchronous GF multiplication [ Based on an original patch by Yuri Tikhonov ] This adds support for doing asynchronous GF multiplication by adding two additional functions to the async_tx API: async_gen_syndrome() does simultaneous XOR and Galois field multiplication of sources. async_syndrome_val() validates the given source buffers against known P and Q values. Cc: H. async_tx: add support for asynchronous GF multiplication [ Based on an original patch by Yuri Tikhonov ] This adds support for doing asynchronous GF multiplication by adding two additional functions to the async_tx API: async_gen_syndrome() does simultaneous XOR and Galois field multiplication of sources. async_syndrome_val() validates the given source buffers against known P and Q values. Cc: H. Recent version will print it as human readable string.) <...>-9018 [004] 92.678375: page_ref_set: pfn=0x17ac9 flags=0x0 count=1 mapcount=0 mapping=(nil) mt=4 val=1 <...>-9018 [004] 92.678378: kernel_stack: => get_page_from_freelist (ffffffff81176659) => __alloc_pages_nodemask (ffffffff81176d22) => alloc_pages_vma (ffffffff811bf675) => handle_mm_fault (ffffffff8119e693) => __do_page_fault (ffffffff810631ea) => trace_do_page_fault (ffffffff81063543) => do_async_page_fault (ffffffff8105c40a) => async_page_fault (ffffffff817581d8) [snip] <...>-9018 [004] 92.678379: page_ref_mod: pfn=0x17ac9 flags=0x40048 count=2 mapcount=1 mapping=0xffff880015a78dc1 mt=4 val=1 [snip] ... ... <...>-9131 [001] 93.174468: test_pages_isolated: start_pfn=0x17800 end_pfn=0x17c00 fin_pfn=0x17ac9 ret=fail [snip] <...>-9018 [004] 93.174843: page_ref_mod_and_test: pfn=0x17ac9 flags=0x40068 count=0 mapcount=0 mapping=0xffff880015a78dc1 mt=4 val=-1 ret=1 => release_pages (ffffffff8117c9e4) => free_pages_and_swap_cache (ffffffff811b0697) => tlb_flush_mmu_free (ffffffff81199616) => tlb_finish_mmu (ffffffff8119a62c) => exit_mmap (ffffffff811a53f7) => mmput (ffffffff81073f47) => do_exit (ffffffff810794e9) => do_group_exit (ffffffff81079def) => SyS_exit_group (ffffffff81079e74) => entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath (ffffffff817560b6) This output shows that problem comes from exit path. In exit path, to improve performance, pages are not freed immediately. They are gathered and processed by batch. During this process, migration cannot be possible and CMA allocation is failed. This problem is hard to find without this page reference tracepoint facility. async_tx: add support for asynchronous GF multiplication [ Based on an original patch by Yuri Tikhonov ] This adds support for doing asynchronous GF multiplication by adding two additional functions to the async_tx API: async_gen_syndrome() does simultaneous XOR and Galois field multiplication of sources. async_syndrome_val() validates the given source buffers against known P and Q values. Cc: H.
