Merge tag 'kernel-clone-v5.9' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brauner/linux

Pull kernel_clone() updates from Christian Brauner:
 "During the v5.9 merge window we reworked the process creation
  codepaths across multiple architectures. After this work we were only
  left with the _do_fork() helper based on the struct kernel_clone_args
  calling convention. As was pointed out _do_fork() isn't valid
  kernelese especially for a helper that isn't just static.

  This series removes the _do_fork() helper and introduces the new
  kernel_clone() helper. The process creation cleanup didn't change the
  name to something more reasonable mainly because _do_fork() was used
  in quite a few places. So sending this as a separate series seemed the
  better strategy.

  I originally intended to send this early in the v5.9 development cycle
  after the merge window had closed but given that this was touching
  quite a few places I decided to defer this until the v5.10 merge
  window"

Al Viro 6e41c585e3 unify generic instances of csum_partial_copy_nocheck()
quite a few architectures have the same csum_partial_copy_nocheck() -
simply memcpy() the data and then return the csum of the copy.

hexagon, parisc, ia64, s390, um: explicitly spelled out that way.

arc, arm64, csky, h8300, m68k/nommu, microblaze, mips/GENERIC_CSUM, nds32,
nios2, openrisc, riscv, unicore32: end up picking the same thing spelled
out in lib/checksum.h (with varying amounts of perversions along the way).

everybody else (alpha, arm, c6x, m68k/mmu, mips/!GENERIC_CSUM, powerpc,
sh, sparc, x86, xtensa) have non-generic variants. For all except c6x
the declaration is in their asm/checksum.h. c6x uses the wrapper
from asm-generic/checksum.h that would normally lead to the lib/checksum.h
instance, but in case of c6x we end up using an asm function from arch/c6x
instead.

Screw that mess - have architectures with private instances define
_HAVE_ARCH_CSUM_AND_COPY in their asm/checksum.h and have the default
one right in net/checksum.h conditional on _HAVE_ARCH_CSUM_AND_COPY
*not* defined.

Peter Xu 4487dcf9b7 mm/nios2: use general page fault accounting
Use the general page fault accounting by passing regs into
handle_mm_fault(). It naturally solve the issue of multiple page fault
accounting when page fault retry happened.

Add the missing PERF_COUNT_SW_PAGE_FAULTS perf events too. Note, the
other two perf events (PERF_COUNT_SW_PAGE_FAULTS_[MAJ|MIN]) were done in
handle_mm_fault().

Peter Xu bce617edec mm: do page fault accounting in handle_mm_fault
Patch series "mm: Page fault accounting cleanups", v5.

This is v5 of the pf accounting cleanup series. It originates from Gerald
Schaefer's report on an issue a week ago regarding to incorrect page fault
accountings for retried page fault after commit 4064b98270 ("mm: allow
VM_FAULT_RETRY for multiple times"):

  https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20200610174811.44b94525@thinkpad/

What this series did:

  - Correct page fault accounting: we do accounting for a page fault
    (no matter whether it's from #PF handling, or gup, or anything else)
    only with the one that completed the fault. For example, page fault
    retries should not be counted in page fault counters. Same to the
    perf events.

  - Unify definition of PERF_COUNT_SW_PAGE_FAULTS: currently this perf
    event is used in an adhoc way across different archs.

    Case (1): for many archs it's done at the entry of a page fault
    handler, so that it will also cover e.g. errornous faults.

    Case (2): for some other archs, it is only accounted when the page
    fault is resolved successfully.

    Case (3): there're still quite some archs that have not enabled
    this perf event.

    Since this series will touch merely all the archs, we unify this
    perf event to always follow case (1), which is the one that makes most
    sense. And since we moved the accounting into handle_mm_fault, the
    other two MAJ/MIN perf events are well taken care of naturally.

  - Unify definition of "major faults": the definition of "major
    fault" is slightly changed when used in accounting (not
    VM_FAULT_MAJOR). More information in patch 1.

  - Always account the page fault onto the one that triggered the page
    fault. This does not matter much for #PF handlings, but mostly for
    gup. More information on this in patch 25.

Patchset layout:

Patch 1: Introduced the accounting in handle_mm_fault(), not enabled.
Patch 2-23: Enable the new accounting for arch #PF handlers one by one.
Patch 24: Enable the new accounting for the rest outliers (gup, iommu, etc.)
Patch 25: Cleanup GUP task_struct pointer since it's not needed any more

This patch (of 25):

This is a preparation patch to move page fault accountings into the
general code in handle_mm_fault(). This includes both the per task
flt_maj/flt_min counters, and the major/minor page fault perf events. To
do this, the pt_regs pointer is passed into handle_mm_fault().

PERF_COUNT_SW_PAGE_FAULTS should still be kept in per-arch page fault
handlers.

So far, all the pt_regs pointer that passed into handle_mm_fault() is
NULL, which means this patch should have no intented functional change.

arch: rename copy_thread_tls() back to copy_thread()
Now that HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS has been removed, rename copy_thread_tls()
back simply copy_thread(). It's a simpler name, and doesn't imply that only
tls is copied here. This finishes an outstanding chunk of internal process
creation work since we've added clone3().

arch: remove HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS
All architectures support copy_thread_tls() now, so remove the legacy
copy_thread() function and the HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS config option. Everyone
uses the same process creation calling convention based on
copy_thread_tls() and struct kernel_clone_args. This will make it easier to
maintain the core process creation code under kernel/, simplifies the
callpaths and makes the identical for all architectures.

nios2: enable HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS, switch to kernel_clone_args
This is part of a larger series that aims at getting rid of the
copy_thread()/copy_thread_tls() split that makes the process creation
codepaths in the kernel more convoluted and error-prone than they need
to be.
I'm converting all the remaining arches that haven't yet switched and
am collecting individual acks. Once I have them, I'll send the whole series
removing the copy_thread()/copy_thread_tls() split, the
HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS define and the legacy do_fork() helper. The only
kernel-wide process creation entry point for anything not going directly
through the syscall path will then be based on struct kernel_clone_args.
No more danger of weird process creation abi quirks between architectures
hopefully, and easier to maintain overall.
It also unblocks implementing clone3() on architectures not support
copy_thread_tls(). Any architecture that wants to implement clone3()
will need to select HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS and thus need to implement
copy_thread_tls(). So both goals are connected but independently
beneficial.

HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS means that a given architecture supports
CLONE_SETTLS and not setting it should usually mean that the
architectures doesn't implement it but that's not how things are. In
fact all architectures support CLONE_TLS it's just that they don't
follow the calling convention that HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS implies. That
means all architectures can be switched over to select
HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS. Once that is done we can remove that macro (yay,
less code), the unnecessary do_fork() export in kernel/fork.c, and also
rename copy_thread_tls() back to copy_thread(). At this point
copy_thread() becomes the main architecture specific part of process
creation but it will be the same layout and calling convention for all
architectures. (Once that is done we can probably cleanup each
copy_thread() function even more but that's for the future.)

Since nios2 does support CLONE_SETTLS there's no reason to not select
HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS. This brings us one step closer to getting rid of
the copy_thread()/copy_thread_tls() split we still have and ultimately
the HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS define in general. A lot of architectures have
already converted and nios2 is one of the few hat haven't yet. This also
unblocks implementing the clone3() syscall on nios2. Once that is done we
can get of another ARCH_WANTS_* macro.

Once Any architecture that supports HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS cannot call the
do_fork() helper anymore. This is fine and intended since it should be
removed in favor of the new, cleaner _do_fork() calling convention based
on struct kernel_clone_args. In fact, most architectures have already
switched. With this patch, nios2 joins the other arches which can't use
the fork(), vfork(), clone(), clone3() syscalls directly and who follow
the new process creation calling convention that is based on struct
kernel_clone_args which we introduced a while back. This means less
custom assembly in the architectures entry path to set up the registers
before calling into the process creation helper and it is easier to to
support new features without having to adapt calling conventions. It
also unifies all process creation paths between fork(), vfork(),
clone(), and clone3(). (We can't fix the ABI nightmare that legacy
clone() is but we can prevent stuff like this happening in the future.)

    Merge tag 'clone3-tls-v5.5-rc6' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brauner/linux

    Pull thread fixes from Christian Brauner:
     "This contains a series of patches to fix CLONE_SETTLS when used with
      clone3().

      The clone3() syscall passes the tls argument through struct clone_args
      instead of a register. This means, all architectures that do not
      implement copy_thread_tls() but still support CLONE_SETTLS via
      copy_thread() expecting the tls to be located in a register argument
      based on clone() are currently unfortunately broken. Their tls value
      will be garbage.

      The patch series fixes this on all architectures that currently define
      __ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3. It also adds a compile-time check to ensure
      that any architecture that enables clone3() in the future is forced to
      also implement copy_thread_tls().

      My ultimate goal is to get rid of the copy_thread()/copy_thread_tls()
      split and just have copy_thread_tls() at some point in the not too
      distant future (Maybe even renaming copy_thread_tls() back to simply
      copy_thread() once the old function is ripped from all arches). This
      is dependent now on all arches supporting clone3().

      While all relevant arches do that now there are still four missing:
      ia64, m68k, sh and sparc. They have the system call reserved, but not
      implemented. Once they all implement clone3() we can get rid of
      ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3 and HAVE_COPY_THREAD_TLS.

Note that in the meantime, m68k has already switched to the new calling
convention. And I've got sparc patches acked by Dave and ia64 is already
done too. You can find a link to a booting qemu nios2 system with all the
changes here at [1].

Mike Rapoport 974b9b2c68 mm: consolidate pte_index() and pte_offset_*() definitions
All architectures define pte_index() as

	(address >> PAGE_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PTE - 1)

and all architectures define pte_offset_kernel() as an entry in the array
of PTEs indexed by the pte_index().

For the most architectures the pte_offset_kernel() implementation relies
on the availability of pmd_page_vaddr() that converts a PMD entry value to
the virtual address of the page containing PTEs array.

Let's move x86 definitions of the PTE accessors to the generic place in
<linux/pgtable.h> and then simply drop the respective definitions from the
other architectures.

The architectures that didn't provide pmd_page_vaddr() are updated to have
that defined.

The generic implementation of pte_offset_kernel() can be overridden by an
architecture and alpha makes use of this because it has special ordering
requirements for its version of pte_offset_kernel().

Mike Rapoport e31cf2f4ca mm: don't include asm/pgtable.h if linux/mm.h is already included
Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2.

The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are
duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For
instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported
architectures.

Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils
down to, e.g.

static inline unsigned long pmd_index(unsigned long address)
{
        return (address >> PMD_SHIFT) & (PTRS_PER_PMD - 1);
}

static inline pmd_t *pmd_offset(pud_t *pud, unsigned long address)
{
        return (pmd_t *)pud_page_vaddr(*pud) + pmd_index(address);
}

These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided
XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined.

For architectures that really need a custom version there is always
possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic.

These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces
include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table
accessors to the new header.

This patch (of 12):

The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the
functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and
pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h>
in the files that include <linux/mm.h>.

The include statements in such cases are remove with a simple loop:

	for f in $(git grep -l "include <linux/mm.h>") ; do
		sed -i -e '/include <asm\/pgtable.h>/ d' $f
	done

Dmitry Safonov 351dd61c38 nios2: add show_stack_loglvl()
Currently, the log-level of show_stack() depends on a platform
realization. It creates situations where the headers are printed with
lower log level or higher than the stacktrace (depending on a platform or
user).

Furthermore, it forces the logic decision from user to an architecture
side. In result, some users as sysrq/kdb/etc are doing tricks with
temporary rising console_loglevel while printing their messages. And in
result it not only may print unwanted messages from other CPUs, but also
omit printing at all in the unlucky case where the printk() was deferred.

Introducing log-level parameter and KERN_UNSUPPRESSED [1] seems an easier
approach than introducing more printk buffers. Also, it will consolidate
printings with headers.

Introduce show_stack_loglvl(), that eventually will substitute
show_stack().

Anshuman Khandual 78e7c5af08 mm/special: create generic fallbacks for pte_special() and pte_mkspecial()
Currently there are many platforms that dont enable ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL
but required to define quite similar fallback stubs for special page
table entry helpers such as pte_special() and pte_mkspecial(), as they
get build in generic MM without a config check. This creates two
generic fallback stub definitions for these helpers, eliminating much
code duplication.

mips platform has a special case where pte_special() and pte_mkspecial()
visibility is wider than what ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL enablement requires.
This restricts those symbol visibility in order to avoid redefinitions
which is now exposed through this new generic stubs and subsequent build
failure. arm platform set_pte_at() definition needs to be moved into a
C file just to prevent a build failure.

Peter Xu 4064b98270 mm: allow VM_FAULT_RETRY for multiple times
The idea comes from a discussion between Linus and Andrea [1].

Before this patch we only allow a page fault to retry once. We achieved
this by clearing the FAULT_FLAG_ALLOW_RETRY flag when doing
handle_mm_fault() the second time. This was majorly used to avoid
unexpected starvation of the system by looping over forever to handle the
page fault on a single page. However that should hardly happen, and after
all for each code path to return a VM_FAULT_RETRY we'll first wait for a
condition (during which time we should possibly yield the cpu) to happen
before VM_FAULT_RETRY is really returned.

This patch removes the restriction by keeping the FAULT_FLAG_ALLOW_RETRY
flag when we receive VM_FAULT_RETRY. It means that the page fault handler
now can retry the page fault for multiple times if necessary without the
need to generate another page fault event. Meanwhile we still keep the
FAULT_FLAG_TRIED flag so page fault handler can still identify whether a
page fault is the first attempt or not.

Then we'll have these combinations of fault flags (only considering
ALLOW_RETRY flag and TRIED flag):

  - ALLOW_RETRY and !TRIED: this means the page fault allows to
                             retry, and this is the first try

  - ALLOW_RETRY and TRIED: this means the page fault allows to
                             retry, and this is not the first try

  - !ALLOW_RETRY and !TRIED: this means the page fault does not allow
                             to retry at all

  - !ALLOW_RETRY and TRIED: this is forbidden and should never be used

In existing code we have multiple places that has taken special care of
the first condition above by checking against (fault_flags &
FAULT_FLAG_ALLOW_RETRY). This patch introduces a simple helper to detect
the first retry of a page fault by checking against both (fault_flags &
FAULT_FLAG_ALLOW_RETRY) and !(fault_flag & FAULT_FLAG_TRIED) because now
even the 2nd try will have the ALLOW_RETRY set, then use that helper in
all existing special paths. One example is in __lock_page_or_retry(), now
we'll drop the mmap_sem only in the first attempt of page fault and we'll
keep it in follow up retries, so old locking behavior will be retained.

This will be a nice enhancement for current code [2] at the same time a
supporting material for the future userfaultfd-writeprotect work, since in
that work there will always be an explicit userfault writeprotect retry
for protected pages, and if that cannot resolve the page fault (e.g., when
userfaultfd-writeprotect is used in conjunction with swapped pages) then
we'll possibly need a 3rd retry of the page fault. It might also benefit
other potential users who will have similar requirement like userfault
write-protection.

GUP code is not touched yet and will be covered in follow up patch.

Peter Xu dde1607248 mm: introduce FAULT_FLAG_DEFAULT
Although there're tons of arch-specific page fault handlers, most of them
are still sharing the same initial value of the page fault flags. Say,
merely all of the page fault handlers would allow the fault to be retried,
and they also allow the fault to respond to SIGKILL.

Let's define a default value for the fault flags to replace those initial
page fault flags that were copied over. With this, it'll be far easier to
introduce new fault flag that can be used by all the architectures instead
of touching all the archs.

Peter Xu 4ef873226c mm: introduce fault_signal_pending()
For most architectures, we've got a quick path to detect fatal signal
after a handle_mm_fault(). Introduce a helper for that quick path.

It cleans the current codes a bit so we don't need to duplicate the same
check across archs. More importantly, this will be an unified place that
we handle the signal immediately right after an interrupted page fault, so
it'll be much easier for us if we want to change the behavior of handling
signals later on for all the archs.

Note that currently only part of the archs are using this new helper,
because some archs have their own way to handle signals. In the follow up
patches, we'll try to apply this helper to all the rest of archs.

Another note is that the "regs" parameter in the new helper is not used
yet. It'll be used very soon. Now we kept it in this patch only to avoid
touching all the archs again in the follow up patches.

Masahiro Yamada 630f289b71 asm-generic: make more kernel-space headers mandatory
Change a header to mandatory-y if both of the following are met:

[1] At least one architecture (except um) specifies it as generic-y in
    arch/*/include/asm/Kbuild

[2] Every architecture (except um) either has its own implementation
    (arch/*/include/asm/*.h) or specifies it as generic-y in
    arch/*/include/asm/Kbuild

This commit was generated by the following shell script.

----------------------------------->8-----------------------------------

arches=$(cd arch; ls -1 | sed -e '/Kconfig/d' -e '/um/d')

tmpfile=$(mktemp)

grep "^mandatory-y +=" include/asm-generic/Kbuild > $tmpfile

find arch -path 'arch/*/include/asm/Kbuild' |
	xargs sed -n 's/^generic-y += \(.*\)/\1/p' | sort -u |
while read header
do
	mandatory=yes

	for arch in $arches
	do
		if ! grep -q "generic-y += $header" arch/$arch/include/asm/Kbuild &&
			! [ -f arch/$arch/include/asm/$header ]; then
			mandatory=no
			break
		fi
	done

	if [ "$mandatory" = yes ]; then
		echo "mandatory-y += $header" >> $tmpfile

		for arch in $arches
		do
			sed -i "/generic-y += $header/d" arch/$arch/include/asm/Kbuild
		done
	fi

done

sed -i '/^mandatory-y +=/d' include/asm-generic/Kbuild

LANG=C sort $tmpfile >> include/asm-generic/Kbuild

----------------------------------->8-----------------------------------

One obvious benefit is the diff stat:

 25 files changed, 52 insertions(+), 557 deletions(-)

It is tedious to list generic-y for each arch that needs it.

So, mandatory-y works like a fallback default (by just wrapping
asm-generic one) when arch does not have a specific header
implementation.

See the following commits:

def3f7cefe
a1b39bae16

It is tedious to convert headers one by one, so I processed by a shell
script.

Linus Torvalds ad0b314e00 Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull sysctl system call removal from Eric Biederman:
 "As far as I can tell we have reached the point where no one enables
  the sysctl system call anymore. It still is enabled in a few
  defconfigs but they are mostly the rarely used one and in asking
  people about that it was more cut & paste enabled than anything else.

  This is single commit that just deletes code. Leaving just enough code
  so that the deprecated sysctl warning continues to be printed. If my
  analysis turns out to be wrong and someone actually cares it will be
  easy to revert this commit and have the system call again.

  There was one new xtensa defconfig in linux-next that enabled the
  system call this cycle and when asked about it the maintainer of the
  code replied that it was not enabled on purpose. As of today's
  linux-next tree that defconfig no longer enables the system call.

  What we saw in the review discussion was that if we go a step farther
  than my patch and mess with uapi headers there are pieces of code that
  won't compile, but nothing minds the system call actually disappearing
  from the kernel"

Eric W. Biederman 61a47c1ad3 sysctl: Remove the sysctl system call
This system call has been deprecated almost since it was introduced, and
in a survey of the linux distributions I can no longer find any of them
that enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. The only indication that I can find
that anyone might care is that a few of the defconfigs in the kernel
enable CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL. However this appears in only 31 of 414
defconfigs in the kernel, so I suspect this symbols presence is simply
because it is harmless to include rather than because it is necessary.

As there appear to be no users of the sysctl system call, remove the
code. As this removes one of the few uses of the internal kernel mount
of proc I hope this allows for even more simplifications of the proc
filesystem.

Mark Rutland b4ed71f557 mm: treewide: clarify pgtable_page_{ctor,dtor}() naming
The naming of pgtable_page_{ctor,dtor}() seems to have confused a few
people, and until recently arm64 used these erroneously/pointlessly for
other levels of page table.

To make it incredibly clear that these only apply to the PTE level, and to
align with the naming of pgtable_pmd_page_{ctor,dtor}(), let's rename them
to pgtable_pte_page_{ctor,dtor}().

These changes were generated with the following shell script:

----
git grep -lw 'pgtable_page_.tor' | while read FILE; do
    sed -i '{s/pgtable_page_ctor/pgtable_pte_page_ctor/}' $FILE;
    sed -i '{s/pgtable_page_dtor/pgtable_pte_page_dtor/}' $FILE;
done
----

... with the documentation re-flowed to remain under 80 columns, and
whitespace fixed up in macros to keep backslashes aligned.

There should be no functional change as a result of this patch.

Mike Rapoport 782de70c42 mm: consolidate pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init()
Both pgtable_cache_init() and pgd_cache_init() are used to initialize kmem
cache for page table allocations on several architectures that do not use
PAGE_SIZE tables for one or more levels of the page table hierarchy.

Most architectures do not implement these functions and use __weak default
NOP implementation of pgd_cache_init(). Since there is no such default
for pgtable_cache_init(), its empty stub is duplicated among most
architectures.

Rename the definitions of pgd_cache_init() to pgtable_cache_init() and
drop empty stubs of pgtable_cache_init().

Nicholas Piggin 13224794cb mm: remove quicklist page table caches
Patch series "mm: remove quicklist page table caches".

A while ago Nicholas proposed to remove quicklist page table caches [1].

I've rebased his patch on the curren upstream and switched ia64 and sh to
use generic versions of PTE allocation.

[1] https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/20190711030339.20892-1-npiggin@gmail.com

This patch (of 3):

Remove page table allocator "quicklists". These have been around for a
long time, but have not got much traction in the last decade and are only
used on ia64 and sh architectures.

The numbers in the initial commit look interesting but probably don't
apply anymore. If anybody wants to resurrect this it's in the git
history, but it's unhelpful to have this code and divergent allocator
behaviour for minor archs.

Also it might be better to instead make more general improvements to page
allocator if this is still so slow.

Wang Xiayang 91d99a724e nios2: force the string buffer NULL-terminated
strncpy() does not ensure NULL-termination when the input string
size equals to the destination buffer size COMMAND_LINE_SIZE.
Besides, grep under arch/ with 'boot_command_line' shows
no other arch-specific code uses strncpy() when copying
boot_command_line.

Use strlcpy() instead.

Mike Rapoport fc7835c2f8 nios2: switch to generic version of pte allocation
nios2 allocates kernel PTE pages with

        __get_free_pages(GFP_KERNEL | __GFP_ZERO, PTE_ORDER);

and user page tables with

        pte = alloc_pages(GFP_KERNEL, PTE_ORDER);
        if (pte)
                clear_highpage();

The PTE_ORDER is hardwired to zero, which makes nios2 implementation almost
identical to the generic one.

Switch nios2 to the generic version that does exactly the same thing for
the kernel page tables and adds __GFP_ACCOUNT for the user PTEs.

The pte_free_kernel() and pte_free() versions on nios2 are identical to the
generic ones and can be simply dropped.

Linus Torvalds 5ad18b2e60 Merge branch 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull force_sig() argument change from Eric Biederman:
 "A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a
  task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current
  task.

  The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals
  such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous
  fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal.

  Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the
  force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been
  abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those
  have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down.

  This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and
  carefully rips out the task parameter from force_sig and friends
  making this kind of error almost impossible in the future"

Masahiro Yamada 029f162ab0 nios2: remove pointless second entry for CONFIG_TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT
Strangely enough, NIOS2 defines TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT twice
with different values, which is pointless and confusing.

[2] arch/nios2/Kconfig.debug

  config TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT

[1] is included before [2]. In the Kconfig syntax, the first one
is effective. So, TRACE_IRQFLAGS_SUPPORT is always 'n'.

Merge tag 'asm-generic-nommu' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic

Pull nommu generic uaccess updates from Arnd Bergmann:
 "asm-generic: kill <asm/segment.h> and improve nommu generic uaccess helpers

  Christoph Hellwig writes:

     This is a series doing two somewhat interwinded things. It improves
     the asm-generic nommu uaccess helper to optionally be entirely
     generic and not require any arch helpers for the actual uaccess.
     For the generic uaccess.h to actually be generically useful I also
     had to kill off the mess we made of <asm/segment.h>, which really
     shouldn't exist on most architectures"

Mike Rapoport 350e88bad4 mm: memblock: make keeping memblock memory opt-in rather than opt-out
Most architectures do not need the memblock memory after the page
allocator is initialized, but only few enable ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK in the
arch Kconfig.

Replacing ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK with ARCH_KEEP_MEMBLOCK and inverting the
logic makes it clear which architectures actually use memblock after
system initialization and skips the necessity to add ARCH_DISCARD_MEMBLOCK
to the architectures that are still missing that option.

Mike Rapoport 997aef68af init: provide a generic free_initmem implementation
Patch series "provide a generic free_initmem implementation", v2.

Many architectures implement free_initmem() in exactly the same or very
similar way: they wrap the call to free_initmem_default() with sometimes
different 'poison' parameter.

These patches switch those architectures to use a generic implementation
that does free_initmem_default(POISON_FREE_INITMEM).

This was inspired by Christoph's patches for free_initrd_mem [1] and I
shamelessly copied changelog entries from his patches :)

[1] https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20190213174621.29297-1-hch@lst.de/

This patch (of 2):

For most architectures free_initmem just a wrapper for the same
free_initmem_default(-1) call. Provide that as a generic implementation
marked __weak.

Pull audit updates from Paul Moore:
 "We've got a reasonably broad set of audit patches for the v5.2 merge
  window, the highlights are below:

   - The biggest change, and the source of all the arch/* changes, is
     the patchset from Dmitry to help enable some of the work he is
     doing around PTRACE_GET_SYSCALL_INFO.

     To be honest, including this in the audit tree is a bit of a
     stretch, but it does help move audit a little further along towards
     proper syscall auditing for all arches, and everyone else seemed to
     agree that audit was a "good" spot for this to land (or maybe they
     just didn't want to merge it? dunno.).

   - We can now audit time/NTP adjustments.

   - We continue the work to connect associated audit records into a
     single event"
