Instead receive a callchain_param pointer to configure callchain
aspects, not doing so if NULL is passed.
This will allow fine grained control over which evsels in an evlist
gets callchains enabled.

So we need to trow away just stdout, leaving stderr to be caught by
the build tests infrastructure, so that we can see what went wrong
when the tarpkg build test fails:

So the test flow is:
1. Run: 'make -C tools/perf build-test'
2. One of its tests failed, in this case, the 'tarpkg' one
3. Look at what went wrong, by looking at the output of that test, in
tools/perf/tarpkg
Admittedly, this should be shortcircuited to showing what went wrong directly
from the 'make build-test' step, but lets first fix this tarpkg one and the
problem it spotted, which should be fixed by adding some extra file to the
tools/perf/MANIFEST so that detached tarballs continue being self contained and
build successfully.

Before this patch each subcommand calls perf_config() by themself,
reading the default configuration together with subcommand specific
options. If a subcommand doesn't have it own options, it needs to call
'perf_config(perf_default_config, NULL)' to ensure .perfconfig is
loaded.
This patch brings perf_config(perf_default_config, NULL) to the very
start of main(), so subcommands don't need to do it.
After this patch, 'llvm.clang-path' works for 'perf trace'.

Users can pass options to tracepoints defined in the BPF script. For
example:
# perf record -e ./test.c/no-inherit/ bash
# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null count=10000
# exit
[ perf record: Woken up 1 times to write data ]
[ perf record: Captured and wrote 0.022 MB perf.data (139 samples) ]
(no-inherit works, only the sys_read issued by bash are captured, at
least 10000 sys_read issued by dd are skipped.)
test.c:
#define SEC(NAME) __attribute__((section(NAME), used))
SEC("func=sys_read")
int bpf_func__sys_read(void *ctx)
{
return 1;
}
char _license[] SEC("license") = "GPL";
int _version SEC("version") = LINUX_VERSION_CODE;
no-inherit is applied to the kprobe event defined in test.c.

Using 4 kHz is not necessary and sometimes is more than what was
auto-tuned:
# dmesg | grep max_sample_rate | tail -2
[ 2499.144373] perf interrupt took too long (2501 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50000
[ 3592.413606] perf interrupt took too long (5069 > 5000), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 25000
Simulating a auto-tune of 2000 we make the test fail, as reported
by Steven Noonan for one of his machines, so reduce it to 500 HZ,
it is enough to get a good number of samples for this test:
# perf test -v 21 2>&1 | grep '^Reading object code for memory address' | tee /tmp/out | tail -5
Reading object code for memory address: 0x479f40
Reading object code for memory address: 0x7f29b7eea80d
Reading object code for memory address: 0x7f29b7eea80d
Reading object code for memory address: 0x7f29b7eea800
Reading object code for memory address: 0xffffffff813b2f23
[root@jouet ~]# wc -l /tmp/out
40 /tmp/out
[root@jouet ~]#
For systems that auto-tune below that, the previous patches will tell the
user what is happening so that he may either ignore the result of this test or
bump /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_max_sample_rate.

More needs to be done to make it more compact, i.e. elide the '-f Makefile',
remove that 'cd . &&', move the DESTDIR= and O= to the end, as they don't
convey that much information besides the fact that they are being set to some
random directory just for this build, move the meat, i.e. the meaningful
feature disabling bits to the start, etc.

Will Deacon [1] has some question on patch [2]. This patch improves
test__bp_signal so we can test:
1. A watchpoint and a breakpoint that fire on the same instruction
2. Nested signals
Test result:
On x86_64 and ARM64 (result are similar with patch [2] on ARM64):
# ./perf test -v signal
17: Test breakpoint overflow signal handler :
--- start ---
test child forked, pid 10213
count1 1, count2 3, count3 2, overflow 3, overflows_2 3
test child finished with 0
---- end ----
Test breakpoint overflow signal handler: Ok
So at least 2 cases Will doubted are handled correctly.

To prevent the feature check tests to run repeately, one time per
'tests/make' target/test, this patch utilizes the previously introduced
'feature-dump' make target and FEATURES_DUMP variable, making sure that
the feature checkers run only once when doing build-test for normal test
cases.
However, since standard users doesn't reuse features dump result, we'd
better give an option to check their behaviors. The above feature
should be used to make build-test faster only. Only utilize it for
build-test.

There's a bug in LLVM that it can generate unneeded relocation
information. See [1] and [2]. Libbpf should check the target section of
a relocation symbol.
This patch adds a testcase which references a global variable (BPF
doesn't support global variables). Before fixing libbpf, the new test
case can be loaded into kernel, the global variable acts like the first
map. It is incorrect.

There are cases where looking at just the next and prev entries is not
enough, like with:
$ readelf -sW /usr/lib/debug/lib/modules/4.3.3-301.fc23.x86_64/vmlinux | grep ffffffff81065ec0
4979: ffffffff81065ec0 53 FUNC LOCAL DEFAULT 1 try_to_free_pud_page

4981: ffffffff81065ec0 53 FUNC LOCAL DEFAULT 1 try_to_free_pmd_page
So just search by name to see if the symbol is in kallsyms.

Kernel makefile only follows an 'O' option passed from command line
explicitely. In build-test with 'O' option set, kernel makefile
contaminate kernel source directory. Build test also fail if we don't
create output directory manually.
K_O_OPT is added and passed to kernel makefile if 'O' is passed
to build-test.

If an 'O' is passed to 'make build-test', many 'test -x' and 'test -f'
will fail because perf resides in a different directory. Fix this by
computing PERF_OUT according to 'O' and test correct output files.
For make_kernelsrc and make_kernelsrc_tools, set KBUILD_OUTPUT_DIR
instead because the path is different from others ($(O)/perf vs
$(O)/tools/perf).

Unlike tools/perf/Makefile, tools/perf/Makefile.perf obey 'O' option
when it is passed through cmdline only, due to code in
tools/scripts/Makefile.include:
ifneq ($(O),)
ifeq ($(origin O), command line)
...
ABSOLUTE_O := $(shell cd $(O) ; pwd)
OUTPUT := $(ABSOLUTE_O)/$(if $(subdir),$(subdir)/)
endif
endif
This patch passes 'O' to Makefile.perf through cmdline explicitly
to make it follow O variable during build-test.
'make clean' should have identical 'O' option with 'make'. If not,
config-clean may error.

'make build-test' is painful because of time consuming. In a full test,
all test cases are built twice with tools/perf/Makefile and
tools/perf/Makefile.perf. 'Makefile' automatically computes parallel
options for make, but 'Makefile.perf' not, so all test cases is built
with one job. It is very slow.
This patch adds '-j' options to Makefile.perf testing. It computes
parallel building options like what tools/perf/Makefile does, and pass
'-j' option to Makefile.perf test.

Commit 71d6de64fe ("perf test: Fix hist testcases when kptr_restrict is on")
solves a double free problem when 'perf test hist' calling
setup_fake_machine(). However, the result is still incorrect. For example:
$ ./perf test -v 'filtering hist entries'
25: Test filtering hist entries :
--- start ---
test child forked, pid 4186
Cannot create kernel maps
test child finished with 0
---- end ----
Test filtering hist entries: Ok
In this case the body of this test is not get executed at all, but the
result is 'Ok'.
Actually, in setup_fake_machine() there's no need to create real kernel
maps. What we want are the fake maps. This patch removes the
machine__create_kernel_maps() in setup_fake_machine(), so it won't be
affected by kptr_restrict setting.
Test result:
$ cat /proc/sys/kernel/kptr_restrict
1
$ ~/perf test -v hist
15: Test matching and linking multiple hists :
--- start ---
test child forked, pid 24031
test child finished with 0
---- end ----
Test matching and linking multiple hists: Ok

Some tests have sub-tests we want to run, so allow passing this.
Wang tried to avoid having to touch all tests, but then, having the
test.func in an anonymous union makes the build fail on older compilers,
like the one in RHEL6, where:
test a = {
.func = foo,
};
fails.
To fix it leave the func pointer in the main structure and pass the subtest
index to all tests, end result function is the same, but we have just one
function pointer, not two, with and without the subtest index as an argument.

This patch introduces a new BPF script to test the BPF prologue adding
routines. The new script probes at null_lseek, which is the function pointer
used when we try to lseek on '/dev/null'.
The null_lseek function is chosen because it is used by function pointers, so
we don't need to consider inlining and LTO.
By extracting file->f_mode, bpf-script-test-prologue.c should know whether the
file is writable or readonly. According to llseek_loop() and
bpf-script-test-prologue.c, one fourth of total lseeks should be collected.

This patch adds BPF testcase for testing BPF event filtering.
By utilizing the result of 'perf test LLVM', this patch compiles the
eBPF sample program then test its ability. The BPF script in 'perf test
LLVM' lets only 50% samples generated by epoll_pwait() to be captured.
This patch runs that system call for 111 times, so the result should
contain 56 samples.

This patch replaces the original toy BPF program with the previously
introduced bpf-script-example.c. Dynamically embeddeding it into
'llvm-src-base.c'.
The newly introduced BPF program attaches a BPF program to
'sys_epoll_pwait()'. perf itself never use that syscall, so further test
can verify their result with it. The program would generate 1 sample in
every 2 calls of epoll_pwait() system call.
Since the resulting BPF object is useful per se for further tests,
test_llvm__fetch_bpf_obj() is introduced for creating BPF objects from
source. The LLVM test was rewritten to use it.

In this patch, a series of libbpf specific error numbers and
libbpf_strerror() are introduced to help reporting errors.
Functions are updated to pass correct the error number through the
CHECK_ERR() macro.
All users of bpf_object__open{_buffer}() and bpf_program__title() in
perf are modified accordingly. In addition, due to the error codes
changing, bpf__strerror_load() is also modified to use them.
bpf__strerror_head() is also changed accordingly so it can parse libbpf
errors. bpf_loader_strerror() is introduced for that purpose, and will
be improved by the following patch.
load_program() is improved not to dump log buffer if it is empty. log
buffer is also used to deduce whether the error was caused by an invalid
program or other problem.
v1 -> v2:
- Using macro for error code.
- Fetch error message based on array index, eliminate for-loop.
- Use log buffer to detect the reason of failure. 3 new error code
are introduced to replace LIBBPF_ERRNO__LOAD.
In v1:
# perf record -e ./test_ill_program.o ls
event syntax error: './test_ill_program.o'
\___ Failed to load program: Validate your program and check 'license'/'version' sections in your object
SKIP
# perf record -e ./test_kversion_nomatch_program.o ls

\___ Failed to load program: Validate your program and check 'license'/'version' sections in your object
SKIP
# perf record -e ./test_big_program.o ls
event syntax error: './test_big_program.o'
\___ Failed to load program: Validate your program and check 'license'/'version' sections in your object

In v2:
# perf record -e ./test_ill_program.o ls

\___ Kernel verifier blocks program loading
SKIP
# perf record -e ./test_kversion_nomatch_program.o
event syntax error: './test_kversion_nomatch_program.o'

(Will be further improved by following patches)
# perf record -e ./test_big_program.o

Those tests take a long time and sometimes we stop it, so allow randomly
shuffling the tests so that we have a better chance of running more of
them in partial 'make build-test' runs.
Using it just on the 'build-test' target, i.e.:
make -C tools/perf build-test
Is equivalent to:
make SHUF=1 -C tools/perf -f tests/make

According to [1], 'perf test' should avoid output too much information
if '-v' is not set, only 'Ok', 'FAIL' or 'Skip' need to be printed.
This patch removes several messages sent directly to stderr to make
the output clean.

This patch provides infrastructure for passing source files to --event
directly using:
# perf record --event bpf-file.c command
This patch does following works:
1) Allow passing '.c' file to '--event'. parse_events_load_bpf() is
expanded to allow caller tell it whether the passed file is source
file or object.
2) llvm__compile_bpf() is called to compile the '.c' file, the result
is saved into memory. Use bpf_object__open_buffer() to load the
in-memory object.
Introduces a bpf-script-example.c so we can manually test it:
# perf record --clang-opt "-DLINUX_VERSION_CODE=0x40200" --event ./bpf-script-example.c sleep 1
Note that '--clang-opt' must put before '--event'.
Futher patches will merge it into a testcase so can be tested automatically.

By adding libbpf into perf's Makefile, this patch enables perf to build
libbpf if libelf is found and neither NO_LIBELF nor NO_LIBBPF is set.
The newly introduced code is similar to how libapi and libtraceevent
are wired into Makefile.perf.
MANIFEST is also updated for 'make perf-*-src-pkg'.
Append make_no_libbpf to tools/perf/tests/make.
The 'bpf' feature check is appended into default FEATURE_TESTS and
FEATURE_DISPLAY, so perf will check the API version of bpf in
/path/to/kernel/include/uapi/linux/bpf.h. Which should not fail except
when we are trying to port this code to an old kernel.
Error messages are also updated to notify users about the lack of BPF
support in 'perf record' if libelf is missing or the BPF API check
failed.
tools/lib/bpf is added to TAG_FOLDERS to allow us to navigate libbpf
files when working on perf using tools/perf/tags.

Currently libtraceevent emits warning on unsupported event formats.
However it'd be better to see them only -v option is given. To do that,
it needs to override the warning() function which is used in the
libtracevent. Thus add set_warning_routine() same as set_die_routine()
and check the verbose flag in our warning routine.

Currently, when 'perf test' is run by a normal user, it'll fail to
access tracepoint events. The output becomes somewhat messy because it
tries to be nice with long error messages and hints.
IMHO this is not needed for 'perf test' by default and AFAIK 'perf test'
uses pr_debug() rather than pr_err() for such messages so that one can
use -v option to see further details on failed testcases if needed.

Tests that only make sense for some architectures currently live in
the same place as the generic tests. Move out the x86-specific tests
into tools/perf/arch/x86/tests and define an 'arch_tests' array, which
is the list of tests that only apply to the build architecture.
The main idea is to encourage developers to add arch tests to build
out perf's test coverage, without dumping everything in
tools/perf/tests.

Propagate error info from tp_format via ERR_PTR to get it all the way
down to the parse-event.c tracepoint adding routines. Following
functions now return pointer with encoded error:
- tp_format
- trace_event__tp_format
- perf_evsel__newtp_idx
- perf_evsel__newtp
This affects several other places in perf, that cannot use pointer check
anymore, but must utilize the err.h interface, when getting error
information from above functions list.

In preparation for introducing more arrays of tests, e.g. "arch tests"
(architecture-specific tests), abstract the code to iterate over the
list of tests into a helper function.
This way, code that uses a 'struct test' doesn't need to worry about how
the tests are grouped together and changes to the list of tests doesn't
require changes to the code using it.

Add a new test titled:
Test x86 instruction decoder - new instructions
The purpose of this test is to check the instruction decoder after new
instructions have been added. Initially, MPX instructions are tested
which are already supported, but the definitions in x86-opcode-map.txt
will be tweaked in a subsequent patch, after which this test can be run
to verify those changes.
The data for the test comes from assembly language instructions in
insn-x86-dat-src.c which is converted into bytes by the scripts
gen-insn-x86-dat.sh and gen-insn-x86-dat.awk, and included into the test
program insn-x86.c as insn-x86-dat-32.c and insn-x86-dat-64.c.
The conversion is not done as part of the perf tools build because the
test data must be under (git) change control in order for the test to be
repeatably-correct. Also it may require a recent version of binutils.

Before this patch there's no way to connect a loaded bpf object
to its source file. However, during applying perf's '--filter' to BPF
object, without this connection makes things harder, because perf loads
all programs together, but '--filter' setting is for each object.
The API of bpf_object__open_buffer() is changed to allow passing a name.
Fortunately, at this time there's only one user of it (perf test LLVM),
so we change it together.

Previous patches introduce llvm__compile_bpf() to compile source file to
eBPF object. This patch adds testcase to test it. It also tests libbpf
by opening generated object after applying next patch which introduces
HAVE_LIBBPF_SUPPORT option.
Since llvm__compile_bpf() prints long messages which users who don't
explicitly test llvm doesn't care, this patch set verbose to -1 to
suppress all debug, warning and error message, and hint user use 'perf
test -v' to see the full output.
For the same reason, if clang is not found in PATH and there's no [llvm]
section in .perfconfig, skip this test.

Currently the command line option settings beats the per event period
settings:
With no global settings, we get per-event configuration:
$ perf record -e 'cpu/instructions,period=20000/' sleep 1
$ perf evlist -v
... { sample_period, sample_freq }: 20000 ...
With 'c' option period setup, we get 'c' option value:
$ perf record -e 'cpu/instructions,period=20000/' -c 1000 sleep 1
$ perf evlist -v
... { sample_period, sample_freq }: 1000 ...
This patch makes the per-event settings overload the global 'c' option
setup:
$ perf record -e 'cpu/instructions,period=20000/' -c 1000 sleep 1
$ perf evlist -v
... { sample_period, sample_freq }: 20000 ...
I think the making the per-event settings to overload any other config
makes more sense than current state. However it breaks the current
'period' term handling, which might cause some noise.. so let's see ;-).
Also fixing parse event tests with the new behaviour.

This has a different model than the 'thread' and 'map' struct lifetimes:
there is not a definitive "don't use this DSO anymore" event, i.e. we may
get many 'struct map' holding references to the '/usr/lib64/libc-2.20.so'
DSO but then at some point some DSO may have no references but we still
don't want to straight away release its resources, because "soon" we may
get a new 'struct map' that needs it and we want to reuse its symtab or
other resources.
So we need some way to garbage collect it when crossing some memory
usage threshold, which is left for anoter patch, for now it is
sufficient to release it when calling dsos__exit(), i.e. when deleting
the whole list as part of deleting the 'struct machine' containing it,
which will leave only referenced objects being used.

If perf.data contains build information and the buildid of such modules
can be found, the dso->kernel of it will be set to DSO_TYPE_KERNEL by
__event_process_build_id(), not kernel module.
It will then be passed to dso__load() -> dso__load_kernel_sym() ->
dso__load_kcore() if --kallsyms is provided.
The refered patch adds NULL pointer checker to avoid segfault. However,
such kernel modules are still processed incorrectly.
This patch fixes __kmod_path__parse, makes it treat names like
'[test_module]' as kernel modules.
kmod-path.c is also update to reflect the above changes.

We can, given a DSO, figure out if it is a kernel, a kernel module or
a userlevel DSO, so stop having to process two lists in several
functions.
If searching becomes an issue at some point, we can have them in a

mmap-basic fails on arm64.
4: read samples using the mmap interface: read samples using the mmap interface: FAILED!
This is because arm64 doesn't come with getpgrp() syscall. The syscall
is a BSD compatibility wrapper, Archs that don't define
__ARCH_WANT_SYS_GETPGRP do not have this. Remove it, since getpgid is

Multiple perf tests fail on arm64 due to missing open syscall:

open(2) is a legacy syscall, replaced with openat(2) since 2.6.16. Thus

When introducing reference counting for struct thread instances I forgot
to remove the synthetic threads from the machine's rbtree so that it
then the threads would have just one reference and thus the
thread__put() replacing the thread__delete() really turns into a
thread__delete() (thread->refcnt == 1 at thread__put() time) and thus
drop the thread->mg refcount, as expected by the this test.
Fix it by calling machine__remove_thread() (the counterpart of
machine__findnew_thread()) on all the synthetic threads after the
checks that involves the rbtree were done.

This is under investigation, the thread__delete() calls were replaced
with thread__put(), and those cause mismatches because now we need to be
more judicious with the thread lifetime management.
I.e. previously the thread__delete() would drop the map_group refcount,
but now since thread__put doesn't call thread__delete() necessarily.
because we have other refcount holders, the map_group refcount will not
be as we expected when this test was implemented.
Will be fixed soon...

In addition to using refcounts for the struct thread lifetime
management, we need to protect access to machine->threads from
concurrent access.
That happens in 'perf top', where a thread processes events, inserting
and deleting entries from that rb_tree while another thread decays
hist_entries, that end up dropping references and ultimately deleting
threads from the rb_tree and releasing its resources when no further
hist_entry (or other data structures, like in 'perf sched') references
it.
So the rule is the same for refcounts + protected trees in the kernel,
get the tree lock, find object, bump the refcount, drop the tree lock,
return, use object, drop the refcount if no more use of it is needed,
keep it if storing it in some other data structure, drop when releasing
that data structure.
I.e. pair "t = machine__find(new)_thread()" with a "thread__put(t)", and
"perf_event__preprocess_sample(&al)" with "addr_location__put(&al)".
The addr_location__put() one is because as we return references to
several data structures, we may end up adding more reference counting
for the other data structures and then we'll drop it at
addr_location__put() time.

Adding support to return error information from parse_events function.
Following struct will be populated by parse_events function on return:
struct parse_events_error {
int idx;
char *str;
char *help;
};
where 'idx' is the position in the string where the parsing failed,
'str' contains dynamically allocated error string describing the error
and 'help' is optional help string.
The change contains reporting function, which currently does not display
anything. The code changes to supply error data for specific event types
are coming in next patches. However this is what the expected output is:
$ sudo perf record -e 'sched:krava' ls
event syntax error: 'sched:krava'

...
$ perf record -e cycles,cache-mises ls
event syntax error: '..es,cache-mises'
\___ parser error
...
The output functions cut the beginning of the event string so the error
starts up to 10th character and cut the end of the string of it crosses
the terminal width.

The new kmod_path__parse function and few defines:
int __kmod_path__parse(struct kmod_path *m, const char *path,
bool alloc_name, bool alloc_ext);
#define kmod_path__parse(__m, __p) __kmod_path__parse(__m, __p, false, false)
#define kmod_path__parse_name(__m, __p) __kmod_path__parse(__m, __p, true , false)
#define kmod_path__parse_ext(__m, __p) __kmod_path__parse(__m, __p, false, true)
parse kernel module @path and updates @m argument like:
@comp - true if @path contains supported compression suffix,
false otherwise
@kmod - true if @path contains '.ko' suffix in right position,
false otherwise
@name - if (@alloc_name && @kmod) is true, it contains strdup-ed base name
of the kernel module without suffixes, otherwise strudup-ed
base name of @path
@ext - if (@alloc_ext && @comp) is true, it contains strdup-ed string
the compression suffix
It returns 0 if there's no strdup error, -ENOMEM otherwise.

Do not rely on dso__data_read_offset() will always call dso__data_fd()
internally. With multi-thread support, accessing a fd will be protected
by a lock and it'll cause a huge contention. It can be avoided since we
can skip reading from file if there's a data in the dso cache.
If one needs to call the dso__data_read_offset(), [s]he also needs to
call dso__data_fd() (or set dso->binary_type at least) first like the
dwarf unwind code does.

The current dso cache permits to keep dso->data.fd is open under a half
of open file limit. But test__dso_data_cache() sets dso_cnt to limit /
2 + 1 so it'll reach the limit in the loop even though the loop count is
one less than the dso_cnt and it makes the final dso__data_fd() after
the loop meaningless.
I guess the intention was dsos[0]->data.fd is open before the last open
and gets closed after it. So add an assert before the last open.

Perf tool fails to unwind user stack if the event raises in a shared
object. This patch improves tests/dwarf-unwind.c to demonstrate the
problem by utilizing commonly used glibc function "bsearch". If perf is
not statically linked, the testcase will try to unwind a mixed call
trace.
By debugging libunwind I found that there is a bug in unwind-libunwind:
it always passes 0 as segbase to libunwind, cause libunwind unable to
locate debug_frame entry fir first level ip address (I add some more
debugging output into libunwind to make things clear):
>_Uarm_dwarf_find_debug_frame: start_ip = 10be98, end_ip = 10c2a4
>_Uarm_dwarf_find_debug_frame: found debug_frame table `/lib/libc-2.18.so': segbase=0x0, len=7, gp=0x0, table_data=0x449388
>_Uarm_dwarf_search_unwind_table: call lookup:ip = b6cd3bcc, segbase = 0, rel_ip = b6cd3bcc
>lookup: e->start_ip_offset = bcf18 (rel_ip = b6cd3bcc)
>lookup: e->start_ip_offset = 6d314 (rel_ip = b6cd3bcc)
>lookup: e->start_ip_offset = 33d0c (rel_ip = b6cd3bcc)
...
>lookup: e->start_ip_offset = 15d0c (rel_ip = b6cd3bcc)
>lookup: e->start_ip_offset = 15c40 (rel_ip = b6cd3bcc)
>_Uarm_dwarf_search_unwind_table: IP b6cd3bcc inside range b6c12000-b6d4c000, but no explicit unwind info found
>put_rs_cache: unmasking signals/interrupts and releasing lock
>_Uarm_dwarf_step: returning -10
>_Uarm_step: dwarf_step()=-10
This patch passes map->start as segbase to dwarf_find_debug_frame(), so
di will be initialized correctly.
In addition, dso and executable are different when setting segbase. This
patch first check whether the elf is executable, and pass segbase only
for shared object.

When perf report --children resorts output fields, it tries to put
caller above the callee. But this was only meaningful for a same thread
and doing this requires callchain enabled. So fix its check before
comparing the callchain depth.
This also changes the hist accumulation tests: In test 3, xmalloc in
bash thread should be above than other perf threads due to alphabetical
order of comm string. Also it's under page_fault in bash thread since
alphabetical order of dso name. The sys_perf_event_open in perf thread
is put on the last line since it's self overhead is 0.
In test 4, the sys_perf_event_open is put above other perf entries that
have same children overhead since its callchain depth is smaller.

Now tools that deals want to have an hists per evsel need to call
hists__init() before creating any evsels, which can be as early as when
parsing the command line, so do it before calling parse_options().
The current tools using hists/hist_entries are report, top and annotate,
change them to request per evsel hists.
This is in preparation for making evsels usable by 3rd party tools, that
not necessarily live in perf's source code repository.

We will use this in perf's evlist class so that it can, at
fdarray__filter() time, to unmap the associated ring buffer.
We may need to have further info associated with each fdarray entry, in
that case we'll make that int array a 'union fdarray_priv' one and put a
pointer there so that users can stash whatever they want there. For now,
an int is enough tho.
v2: Add clarification to the per array entry priv area, as well as make
it a union, which makes usage a bit longer, but if/when we make it
use more space by allowing per entry pointers existing users source
code will not have to be changed, just rebuilt.

can be useful for other tools, as it is not something that only evlists
need, so move it to tools/lib/api/fd to ease sharing it.
v2: Don't use {} like in:
libapi_dirs:
$(QUIET_MKDIR)mkdir -p $(OUTPUT){fs,fd}/
in Makefiles, as it will not work in some systems, as in ubuntu13.10.
v3: Add fd/*.[ch] to LIBAPIKFS_SOURCES (Fix from Jiri Olsa)
v4: Leave the fcntl(fd, O_NONBLOCK) in the evlist layer, remains to
be checked if it is really needed there, but has no place in the
fdarray class (Fix from Jiri Olsa)
v5: Remove evlist details from fdarray grow/filter tests. Improve it a
bit doing more tests about expected internal state.

This allows default config terms to be provided for a PMU. So, for
example, when the Intel PT PMU is added, it will be possible to specify:
intel_pt//
which will be the same as:
intel_pt/tsc=1,noretcomp=0/
meaning that the trace should contain TSC timestamps and perform 'return
compression'.
An important consideration of this patch is that it must be possible to
overwrite the default values. That has meant changing the logic so that
a zero value can replace a non-zero value.

Currently vmlinux_path__init() only tries to find vmlinux file from
current directory, /boot and some canonical directories with version
number of the running kernel. This can be a problem when reporting old
data recorded on a kernel version not running currently.
We can use --symfs option for this but it's annoying for user to do it

In commit a21b0b354d ('perf: Introduce a flag to enable
close-on-exec in perf_event_open()'), flag PERF_FLAG_FD_CLOEXEC
was added to perf_event_open(2) syscall to allows userspace
to atomically enable close-on-exec behavor when creating
the file descriptor.
This patch makes perf tools use the new flag if supported
by the kernel, so that the event file descriptors got
automatically closed if perf tool exec a sub-command.

Re-enable the mmap2 interface as we will have a user soon.
Since things have changed since perf disabled mmap2, small tweaks
to the revert had to be done:
o commit 9d4ecc88 forced (n!=8) to become (n<7)
o a new libunwind test needed updating to use mmap2 interface

The new ->add_entry_cb() will be called after an entry was added to
the histogram. It's used for code sharing between perf report and
perf top. Note that ops->add_*_entry() should set iter->he properly
in order to call the ->add_entry_cb.
Also pass @arg to the callback function. It'll be used by perf top
later.

There're some duplicate code when adding hist entries. They are
different in that some have branch info or mem info but generally do
same thing. So introduce new struct hist_entry_iter and add callbacks
to customize each case in general way.
The new perf_evsel__add_entry() function will look like:
iter->prepare_entry();
iter->add_single_entry();
while (iter->next_entry())
iter->add_next_entry();
iter->finish_entry();
This will help further work like the cumulative callchain patchset.
