Currently when a connection is in Nagle mode, we set the 'ack_required'
bit in the last sending buffer and wait for the corresponding ACK prior
to pushing more data. However, on the receiving side, the ACK is issued
only when application really reads the whole data. Even if part of the
last buffer is received, we will not do the ACK as required. This might
cause an unnecessary delay since the receiver does not always fetch the
message as fast as the sender, resulting in a large latency in the user
message sending, which is: [one RTT + the receiver processing time].
The commit makes Nagle ACK as soon as possible i.e. when a message with
the 'ack_required' arrives in the receiving side's stack even before it
is processed or put in the socket receive queue...
This way, we can limit the streaming latency to one RTT as committed in
Nagle mode.

When an application connects to the TIPC topology server and subscribes
to some services, a new connection is created along with some objects -
'tipc_subscription' to store related data correspondingly...
However, there is one omission in the connection handling that when the
connection or application is orderly shutdown (e.g. via SIGQUIT, etc.),
the connection is not closed in kernel, the 'tipc_subscription' objects
are not freed too.
This results in:
- The maximum number of subscriptions (65535) will be reached soon, new
subscriptions will be rejected;
- TIPC module cannot be removed (unless the objects are somehow forced
to release first);
The commit fixes the issue by closing the connection if the 'recvmsg()'
returns '0' i.e. when the peer is shutdown gracefully. It also includes
the other unexpected cases.

tipc_rcv() invokes tipc_node_find() twice, which returns a reference of
the specified tipc_node object to "n" with increased refcnt.
When tipc_rcv() returns or a new object is assigned to "n", the original
local reference of "n" becomes invalid, so the refcount should be
decreased to keep refcount balanced.
The issue happens in some paths of tipc_rcv(), which forget to decrease
the refcnt increased by tipc_node_find() and will cause a refcnt leak.
Fix this issue by calling tipc_node_put() before the original object
pointed by "n" becomes invalid.

tipc_crypto_rcv() invokes tipc_aead_get(), which returns a reference of
the tipc_aead object to "aead" with increased refcnt.
When tipc_crypto_rcv() returns, the original local reference of "aead"
becomes invalid, so the refcount should be decreased to keep refcount
balanced.
The issue happens in one error path of tipc_crypto_rcv(). When TIPC
message decryption status is EINPROGRESS or EBUSY, the function forgets
to decrease the refcnt increased by tipc_aead_get() and causes a refcnt
leak.
Fix this issue by calling tipc_aead_put() on the error path when TIPC
message decryption status is EINPROGRESS or EBUSY.

In commit 16ad3f4022 ("tipc: introduce variable window congestion
control"), we allow link window to change with the congestion avoidance
algorithm. However, there is a bug that during the slow-start if packet
retransmission occurs, the link will enter the fast-recovery phase, set
its window to the 'ssthresh' which is never less than 300, so the link
window suddenly increases to that limit instead of decreasing.
Consequently, two issues have been observed:
- For broadcast-link: it can leave a gap between the link queues that a
new packet will be inserted and sent before the previous ones, i.e. not
in-order.
- For unicast: the algorithm does not work as expected, the link window
jumps to the slow-start threshold whereas packet retransmission occurs.
This commit fixes the issues by avoiding such the link window increase,
but still decreasing if the 'ssthresh' is lowered.

In the commit f73b12812a
("tipc: improve throughput between nodes in netns"), we're missing a check
to handle TIPC_DIRECT_MSG type, it's still using old sending mechanism for
this message type. So, throughput improvement is not significant as
expected.
Besides that, when sending a large message with that type, we're also
handle wrong receiving queue, it should be enqueued in socket receiving
instead of multicast messages.
Fix this by adding the missing case for TIPC_DIRECT_MSG.

In commit 9546a0b7ce ("tipc: fix wrong connect() return code"), we
fixed the issue with the 'connect()' that returns zero even though the
connecting has failed by waiting for the connection to be 'ESTABLISHED'
really. However, the approach has one drawback in conjunction with our
'lightweight' connection setup mechanism that the following scenario
can happen:

Upon the receipt of the server 'ACK', the client becomes 'ESTABLISHED'
and the 'wait_for_conn()' process is woken up but not run. Meanwhile,
the server starts to send a number of data following by a 'close()'
shortly without waiting any response from the client, which then forces
the client socket to be 'DISCONNECTING' immediately. When the wait
process is switched to be running, it continues to wait until the timer
expires because of the unexpected socket state. The client 'connect()'
will finally get ‘-ETIMEDOUT’ and force to release the socket whereas
there remains the messages in its receive queue.
Obviously the issue would not happen if the server had some delay prior
to its 'close()' (or the number of 'DATA' messages is large enough),
but any kind of delay would make the connection setup/shutdown "heavy".
We solve this by simply allowing the 'connect()' returns zero in this
particular case. The socket is already 'DISCONNECTING', so any further
write will get '-EPIPE' but the socket is still able to read the
messages existing in its receive queue.
Note: This solution doesn't break the previous one as it deals with a
different situation that the socket state is 'DISCONNECTING' but has no
error (i.e. sk->sk_err = 0).

The current 'tipc_wait_for_connect()' function does a wait-loop for the
condition 'sk->sk_state != TIPC_CONNECTING' to conclude if the socket
connecting has done. However, when the condition is met, it returns '0'
even in the case the connecting is actually failed, the socket state is
set to 'TIPC_DISCONNECTING' (e.g. when the server socket has closed..).
This results in a wrong return code for the 'connect()' call from user,
making it believe that the connection is established and go ahead with
building, sending a message, etc. but finally failed e.g. '-EPIPE'.
This commit fixes the issue by changing the wait condition to the
'tipc_sk_connected(sk)', so the function will return '0' only when the
connection is really established. Otherwise, either the socket 'sk_err'
if any or '-ETIMEDOUT'/'-EINTR' will be returned correspondingly.

When a socket is suddenly shutdown or released, it will reject all the
unreceived messages in its receive queue. This applies to a connected
socket too, whereas there is only one 'FIN' message required to be sent
back to its peer in this case.
In case there are many messages in the queue and/or some connections
with such messages are shutdown at the same time, the link layer will
easily get overflowed at the 'TIPC_SYSTEM_IMPORTANCE' backlog level
because of the message rejections. As a result, the link will be taken
down. Moreover, immediately when the link is re-established, the socket
layer can continue to reject the messages and the same issue happens...
The commit refactors the '__tipc_shutdown()' function to only send one
'FIN' in the situation mentioned above. For the connectionless case, it
is unavoidable but usually there is no rejections for such socket
messages because they are 'dest-droppable' by default.
In addition, the new code makes the other socket states clear
(e.g.'TIPC_LISTEN') and treats as a separate case to avoid misbehaving.

To enable iproute2/tipc to generate backwards compatible
printouts and validate command parameters for nodes using a
<z.c.n> node address, it needs to be able to read the legacy
address flag from the kernel. The legacy address flag records
the way in which the node identity was originally specified.
The legacy address flag is requested by the netlink message
TIPC_NL_ADDR_LEGACY_GET. If the flag is set the attribute
TIPC_NLA_NET_ADDR_LEGACY is set in the return message.

In the commit referred to below we eliminated sending of the 'gap'
indicator in regular ACK messages, reserving this to explicit NACK
ditto.
Unfortunately we missed to also eliminate building of the 'gap block'
area in ACK messages. This area is meant to report gaps in the
received packet sequence following the initial gap, so that lost
packets can be retransmitted earlier and received out-of-sequence
packets can be released earlier. However, the interpretation of those
blocks is dependent on a complete and correct sequence of gaps and
acks. Hence, when the initial gap indicator is missing a single gap
block will be interpreted as an acknowledgment of all preceding
packets. This may lead to packets being released prematurely from the
sender's transmit queue, with easily predicatble consequences.
We now fix this by not building any gap block area if there is no
initial gap to report.

In the function 'tipc_disc_rcv()', the 'msg_peer_net_hash()' is called
to read the header data field but after the message skb has been freed,
that might result in a garbage value...
This commit fixes it by defining a new local variable to store the data
first, just like the other header fields' handling.

When a user message is sent, TIPC will check if the socket has faced a
congestion at link layer. If that happens, it will make a sleep to wait
for the congestion to disappear. This leaves a gap for other users to
take over the socket (e.g. multi threads) since the socket is released
as well. Also, in case of connectionless (e.g. SOCK_RDM), user is free
to send messages to various destinations (e.g. via 'sendto()'), then
the socket's preformatted header has to be updated correspondingly
prior to the actual payload message building.
Unfortunately, the latter action is done before the first action which
causes a condition issue that the destination of a certain message can
be modified incorrectly in the middle, leading to wrong destination
when that message is built. Consequently, when the message is sent to
the link layer, it gets stuck there forever because the peer node will
simply reject it. After a number of retransmission attempts, the link
is eventually taken down and the retransmission failure is reported.
This commit fixes the problem by rearranging the order of actions to
prevent the race condition from occurring, so the message building is
'atomic' and its header will not be modified by anyone.

In commit c55c8edafa ("tipc: smooth change between replicast and
broadcast"), we allow instant switching between replicast and broadcast
by sending a dummy 'SYN' packet on the last used link to synchronize
packets on the links. The 'SYN' message is an object of link congestion
also, so if that happens, a 'SOCK_WAKEUP' will be scheduled to be sent
back to the socket...
However, in that commit, we simply use the same socket 'cong_link_cnt'
counter for both the 'SYN' & normal payload message sending. Therefore,
if both the replicast & broadcast links are congested, the counter will
be not updated correctly but overwritten by the latter congestion.
Later on, when the 'SOCK_WAKEUP' messages are processed, the counter is
reduced one by one and eventually overflowed. Consequently, further
activities on the socket will only wait for the false congestion signal
to disappear but never been met.
Because sending the 'SYN' message is vital for the mechanism, it should
be done anyway. This commit fixes the issue by marking the message with
an error code e.g. 'TIPC_ERR_NO_PORT', so its sending should not face a
link congestion, there is no need to touch the socket 'cong_link_cnt'
either. In addition, in the event of any error (e.g. -ENOBUFS), we will
purge the entire payload message queue and make a return immediately.

The current rbtree for service ranges in the name table is built based
on the 'lower' & 'upper' range values resulting in a flaw in the rbtree
searching. Some issues have been observed in case of range overlapping:
Case #1: unable to withdraw a name entry:
After some name services are bound, all of them are withdrawn by user
but one remains in the name table forever. This corrupts the table and
that service becomes dummy i.e. no real port.
E.g.

The node {10, 30} cannot be removed since the rbtree searching stops at
the node's ancestor i.e. {10, 50}, so starting from it will never reach
the finding node.
Case #2: failed to send data in some cases:
E.g. Two service ranges: {20, 60}, {10, 50} are bound. The rbtree for
this service will be one of the two cases below depending on the order
of the bindings:

Now, try to send some data to service {30}, there will be two results:
(a): Failed, no route to host.
(b): Ok.
The reason is that the rbtree searching will stop at the pointing node
as shown above.
Case #3: Same as case #2b above but if the data sending's scope is
local and the {10, 50} is published by a peer node, then it will result
in 'no route to host' even though the other {20, 60} is for example on
the local node which should be able to get the data.
The issues are actually due to the way we built the rbtree. This commit
fixes it by introducing an additional field to each node - named 'max',
which is the largest 'upper' of that node subtree. The 'max' value for
each subtrees will be propagated correctly whenever a node is inserted/
removed or the tree is rebalanced by the augmented rbtree callbacks.
By this way, we can change the rbtree searching appoarch to solve the
issues above. Another benefit from this is that we can now improve the
searching for a next range matching e.g. in case of multicast, so get
rid of the unneeded looping over all nodes in the tree.

We introduce a simple variable window congestion control for links.
The algorithm is inspired by the Reno algorithm, covering both 'slow
start', 'congestion avoidance', and 'fast recovery' modes.
- We introduce hard lower and upper window limits per link, still
different and configurable per bearer type.
- We introduce a 'slow start theshold' variable, initially set to
the maximum window size.
- We let a link start at the minimum congestion window, i.e. in slow
start mode, and then let is grow rapidly (+1 per rceived ACK) until
it reaches the slow start threshold and enters congestion avoidance
mode.
- In congestion avoidance mode we increment the congestion window for
each window-size number of acked packets, up to a possible maximum
equal to the configured maximum window.
- For each non-duplicate NACK received, we drop back to fast recovery
mode, by setting the both the slow start threshold to and the
congestion window to (current_congestion_window / 2).
- If the timeout handler finds that the transmit queue has not moved
since the previous timeout, it drops the link back to slow start
and forces a probe containing the last sent sequence number to the
sent to the peer, so that this can discover the stale situation.
This change does in reality have effect only on unicast ethernet
transport, as we have seen that there is no room whatsoever for
increasing the window max size for the UDP bearer.
For now, we also choose to keep the limits for the broadcast link
unchanged and equal.
This algorithm seems to give a 50-100% throughput improvement for
messages larger than MTU.

When we increase the link tranmsit window we often observe the following
scenario:
1) A STATE message bypasses a sequence of traffic packets and arrives
far ahead of those to the receiver. STATE messages contain a
'peers_nxt_snt' field to indicate which was the last packet sent
from the peer. This mechanism is intended as a last resort for the
receiver to detect missing packets, e.g., during very low traffic
when there is no packet flow to help early loss detection.
3) The receiving link compares the 'peer_nxt_snt' field to its own
'rcv_nxt', finds that there is a gap, and immediately sends a
NACK message back to the peer.
4) When this NACKs arrives at the sender, all the requested
retransmissions are performed, since it is a first-time request.
Just like in the scenario described in the previous commit this leads
to many redundant retransmissions, with decreased throughput as a
consequence.
We fix this by adding two more conditions before we send a NACK in
this sitution. First, the deferred queue must be empty, so we cannot
assume that the potential packet loss has already been detected by
other means. Second, we check the 'peers_snd_nxt' field only in probe/
probe_reply messages, thus turning this into a true mechanism of last
resort as it was really meant to be.

1) A packet #N arrives out of order far ahead of a sequence of older
packets which are still under way. The packet is added to the
deferred queue.
2) The missing packets arrive in sequence, and for each 16th of them
an ACK is sent back to the receiver, as it should be.
3) When building those ACK messages, it is checked if there is a gap
between the link's 'rcv_nxt' and the first packet in the deferred
queue. This is always the case until packet number #N-1 arrives, and
a 'gap' indicator is added, effectively turning them into NACK
messages.
4) When those NACKs arrive at the sender, all the requested
retransmissions are done, since it is a first-time request.
This sometimes leads to a huge amount of redundant retransmissions,
causing a drop in max throughput. This problem gets worse when we
in a later commit introduce variable window congestion control,
since it drops the link back to 'fast recovery' much more often
than necessary.
We now fix this by not sending any 'gap' indicator in regular ACK
messages. We already have a mechanism for sending explicit NACKs
in place, and this is sufficient to keep up the packet flow.

ipv6_stub uses the ip6_dst_lookup function to allow other modules to
perform IPv6 lookups. However, this function skips the XFRM layer
entirely.
All users of ipv6_stub->ip6_dst_lookup use ip_route_output_flow (via the
ip_route_output_key and ip_route_output helpers) for their IPv4 lookups,
which calls xfrm_lookup_route(). This patch fixes this inconsistent
behavior by switching the stub to ip6_dst_lookup_flow, which also calls
xfrm_lookup_route().
This requires some changes in all the callers, as these two functions
take different arguments and have different return types.

Scenario:
1. A client socket initiates a SYN message to a listening socket.
2. The send link is congested, the SYN message is put in the
send link and a wakeup message is put in wakeup queue.
3. The congestion situation is abated, the wakeup message is
pulled out of the wakeup queue. Function tipc_sk_push_backlog()
is called to send out delayed messages by Nagle. However,
the client socket is still in CONNECTING state. So, it sends
the SYN message in the socket write queue to the listening socket
again.
4. The listening socket receives the first SYN message and creates
first server socket. The client socket receives ACK- and establishes
a connection to the first server socket. The client socket closes
its connection with the first server socket.
5. The listening socket receives the second SYN message and creates
second server socket. The second server socket sends ACK- to the
client socket, but it has been closed. It results in connection
reset error when reading from the server socket in user space.
Solution: return from function tipc_sk_push_backlog() immediately
if there is pending SYN message in the socket write queue.

In function __tipc_shutdown(), the timeout value passed to
tipc_wait_for_cond() is not jiffies.
This commit fixes it by converting that value from milliseconds

When tipc_sk_timeout() is executed but user space is grabbing
ownership, this function rearms itself and returns. However, the
socket reference counter is not reduced. This causes potential
unexpected behavior.
This commit fixes it by calling sock_put() before tipc_sk_timeout()
returns in the above-mentioned case.

When initiating a connection message to a server side, the connection
message is cloned and added to the socket write queue. However, if the
cloning is failed, only the socket write queue is purged. It causes
memory leak because the original connection message is not freed.
This commit fixes it by purging the list of connection message when
it cannot be cloned.

In commit 4f07b80c97 ("tipc: check msg->req data len in
tipc_nl_compat_bearer_disable") the same patch code was copied into
routines: tipc_nl_compat_bearer_disable(),
tipc_nl_compat_link_stat_dump() and tipc_nl_compat_link_reset_stats().
The two link routine occurrences should have been modified to check
the maximum link name length and not bearer name length.

It is observed that TIPC service binding order will not be kept in the
publication event report to user if the service is subscribed after the
bindings.
For example, services are bound by application in the following order:
Server: bound port A to {18888,66,66} scope 2
Server: bound port A to {18888,33,33} scope 2
Now, if a client subscribes to the service range (e.g. {18888, 0-100}),
it will get the 'TIPC_PUBLISHED' events in that binding order only when
the subscription is started before the bindings.
Otherwise, if started after the bindings, the events will arrive in the
opposite order:
Client: received event for published {18888,33,33}
Client: received event for published {18888,66,66}
For the latter case, it is clear that the bindings have existed in the
name table already, so when reported, the events' order will follow the
order of the rbtree binding nodes (- a node with lesser 'lower'/'upper'
range value will be first).
This is correct as we provide the tracking on a specific service status
(available or not), not the relationship between multiple services.
However, some users expect to see the same order of arriving events
irrespective of when the subscription is issued. This turns out to be
easy to fix. We now add functionality to ensure that publication events
always are issued in the same temporal order as the corresponding
bindings were performed.

When setting up a cluster with non-replicast/replicast capability
supported. This capability will be disabled for broadcast send link
in order to be backwards compatible.
However, when these non-support nodes left and be removed out the cluster.
We don't update this capability on broadcast send link. Then, some of
features that based on this capability will also disabling as unexpected.
In this commit, we make sure the broadcast send link capabilities will
be re-calculated as soon as a node removed/rejoined a cluster.

In commit 25b0b9c4e8 ("tipc: handle collisions of 32-bit node address
hash values"), the 32-bit node address only generated after one second
trial period expired. However the self's addr in struct tipc_monitor do
not update according to node address generated. This lead to it is
always zero as initial value. As result, sorting algorithm using this
value does not work as expected, neither neighbor monitoring framework.
In this commit, we add a fix to update self's addr when 32-bit node
address generated.

Variable err is not uninitialized and hence can potentially contain
any garbage value. This may cause an error when logical or'ing the
return values from the calls to functions crypto_aead_setauthsize or
crypto_aead_setkey. Fix this by setting err to the return of

uninitialized variable

This commit adds two netlink commands to TIPC in order for user to be
able to set or remove AEAD keys:
- TIPC_NL_KEY_SET
- TIPC_NL_KEY_FLUSH
When the 'KEY_SET' is given along with the key data, the key will be
initiated and attached to TIPC crypto. On the other hand, the
'KEY_FLUSH' command will remove all existing keys if any.

This commit offers an option to encrypt and authenticate all messaging,
including the neighbor discovery messages. The currently most advanced
algorithm supported is the AEAD AES-GCM (like IPSec or TLS). All
encryption/decryption is done at the bearer layer, just before leaving
or after entering TIPC.
Supported features:
- Encryption & authentication of all TIPC messages (header + data);
- Two symmetric-key modes: Cluster and Per-node;
- Automatic key switching;
- Key-expired revoking (sequence number wrapped);
- Lock-free encryption/decryption (RCU);
- Asynchronous crypto, Intel AES-NI supported;
- Multiple cipher transforms;
- Logs & statistics;
Two key modes:
- Cluster key mode: One single key is used for both TX & RX in all
nodes in the cluster.
- Per-node key mode: Each nodes in the cluster has one specific TX key.
For RX, a node requires its peers' TX key to be able to decrypt the
messages from those peers.
Key setting from user-space is performed via netlink by a user program
(e.g. the iproute2 'tipc' tool).

The number of TFMs is 10 by default and can be changed via the procfs
'net/tipc/max_tfms'. At this moment, as for simplicity, this file is
also used to print the crypto statistics at runtime:

The patch defines a new TIPC version (v7) for the encryption message (-
backward compatibility as well). The message is basically encapsulated
as follows:

The throughput is about ~40% for small messages (compared with non-
encryption) and ~9% for large messages. With the support from hardware
crypto i.e. the Intel AES-NI CPU instructions, the throughput increases
upto ~85% for small messages and ~55% for large messages.
By default, the new feature is inactive (i.e. no encryption) until user
sets a key for TIPC. There is however also a new option - "TIPC_CRYPTO"
in the kernel configuration to enable/disable the new code when needed.

When user sets RX key for a peer not existing on the own node, a new
node entry is needed to which the RX key will be attached. However,
since the peer node address (& capabilities) is unknown at that moment,
only the node-ID is provided, this commit allows the creation of a node
with only the data that we call as “preliminary”.
A preliminary node is not the object of the “tipc_node_find()” but the
“tipc_node_find_by_id()”. Once the first message i.e. LINK_CONFIG comes
from that peer, and is successfully decrypted by the own node, the
actual peer node data will be properly updated and the node will
function as usual.
In addition, the node timer always starts when a node object is created
so if a preliminary node is not used, it will be cleaned up.
The later encryption functions will also use the node timer and be able
to create a preliminary node automatically when needed.

As a need to support the crypto asynchronous operations in the later
commits, apart from the current RCU mechanism for bearer pointer, we
add a 'refcnt' to the bearer object as well.
So, a bearer can be hold via 'tipc_bearer_hold()' without being freed
even though the bearer or interface can be disabled in the meanwhile.
If that happens, the bearer will be released then when the crypto
operation is completed and 'tipc_bearer_put()' is called.

Currently, we scan over all network namespaces at each received
discovery message in order to check if the sending peer might be
present in a host local namespaces.
This is unnecessary since we can assume that a peer will not change its
location during an established session.
We now improve the condition for this testing so that we don't perform
any redundant scans.

When preparing tunnel packets for the link failover or synchronization,
as for the safe algorithm, we added a dummy packet on the pair link but
never sent it out. In the case of failover, the pair link will be reset
anyway. But for link synching, it will always result in retransmission
of the dummy packet after that.
We have also observed that such the retransmission at the early stage
when a new node comes in a large cluster will take some time and hard
to be done, leading to the repeated retransmit failures and the link is
reset.
Since in commit 4929a932be ("tipc: optimize link synching mechanism")
we have already built a dummy 'TUNNEL_PROTOCOL' message on the new link
for the synchronization, there's no need for the dummy on the pair one,
this commit will skip it when the new mechanism takes in place. In case
nothing exists in the pair link's transmq, the link synching will just
start and stop shortly on the peer side.
The patch is backward compatible.

With huge cluster (e.g >200nodes), the amount of that flow:
gap -> retransmit packet -> acked will take time in case of STATE_MSG
dropped/delayed because a lot of traffic. This lead to 1.5 sec tolerance
value criteria made link easy failure around 2nd, 3rd of failed
retransmission attempts.
Instead of re-introduced criteria of 99 faled retransmissions to fix the
issue, we increase failure detection timer to ten times tolerance value.

As mentioned in commit e95584a889 ("tipc: fix unlimited bundling of
small messages"), the current message bundling algorithm is inefficient
that can generate bundles of only one payload message, that causes
unnecessary overheads for both the sender and receiver.
This commit re-designs the 'tipc_msg_make_bundle()' function (now named
as 'tipc_msg_try_bundle()'), so that when a message comes at the first
place, we will just check & keep a reference to it if the message is
suitable for bundling. The message buffer will be put into the link
backlog queue and processed as normal. Later on, when another one comes
we will make a bundle with the first message if possible and so on...
This way, a bundle if really needed will always consist of at least two
payload messages. Otherwise, we let the first buffer go its way without
any need of bundling, so reduce the overheads to zero.
Moreover, since now we have both the messages in hand, we can even
optimize the 'tipc_msg_bundle()' function, make bundle of a very large
(size ~ MSS) and small messages which is not with the current algorithm
e.g. [1400-byte message] + [10-byte message] (MTU = 1500).

We introduce a feature that works like a combination of TCP_NAGLE and
TCP_CORK, but without some of the weaknesses of those. In particular,
we will not observe long delivery delays because of delayed acks, since
the algorithm itself decides if and when acks are to be sent from the
receiving peer.
- The nagle property as such is determined by manipulating a new
'maxnagle' field in struct tipc_sock. If certain conditions are met,
'maxnagle' will define max size of the messages which can be bundled.
If it is set to zero no messages are ever bundled, implying that the
nagle property is disabled.
- A socket with the nagle property enabled enters nagle mode when more
than 4 messages have been sent out without receiving any data message
from the peer.
- A socket leaves nagle mode whenever it receives a data message from
the peer.
In nagle mode, messages smaller than 'maxnagle' are accumulated in the
socket write queue. The last buffer in the queue is marked with a new
'ack_required' bit, which forces the receiving peer to send a CONN_ACK
message back to the sender upon reception.
The accumulated contents of the write queue is transmitted when one of
the following events or conditions occur.
- A CONN_ACK message is received from the peer.
- A data message is received from the peer.
- A SOCK_WAKEUP pseudo message is received from the link level.
- The write queue contains more than 64 1k blocks of data.
- The connection is being shut down.
- There is no CONN_ACK message to expect. I.e., there is currently
no outstanding message where the 'ack_required' bit was set. As a
consequence, the first message added after we enter nagle mode
is always sent directly with this bit set.
This new feature gives a 50-100% improvement of throughput for small
(i.e., less than MTU size) messages, while it might add up to one RTT
to latency time when the socket is in nagle mode.

Currently, TIPC transports intra-node user data messages directly
socket to socket, hence shortcutting all the lower layers of the
communication stack. This gives TIPC very good intra node performance,
both regarding throughput and latency.
We now introduce a similar mechanism for TIPC data traffic across
network namespaces located in the same kernel. On the send path, the
call chain is as always accompanied by the sending node's network name
space pointer. However, once we have reliably established that the
receiving node is represented by a namespace on the same host, we just
replace the namespace pointer with the receiving node/namespace's
ditto, and follow the regular socket receive patch though the receiving
node. This technique gives us a throughput similar to the node internal
throughput, several times larger than if we let the traffic go though
the full network stacks. As a comparison, max throughput for 64k
messages is four times larger than TCP throughput for the same type of
traffic.
To meet any security concerns, the following should be noted.
- All nodes joining a cluster are supposed to have been be certified
and authenticated by mechanisms outside TIPC. This is no different for
nodes/namespaces on the same host; they have to auto discover each
other using the attached interfaces, and establish links which are
supervised via the regular link monitoring mechanism. Hence, a kernel
local node has no other way to join a cluster than any other node, and
have to obey to policies set in the IP or device layers of the stack.
- Only when a sender has established with 100% certainty that the peer
node is located in a kernel local namespace does it choose to let user
data messages, and only those, take the crossover path to the receiving
node/namespace.
- If the receiving node/namespace is removed, its namespace pointer
is invalidated at all peer nodes, and their neighbor link monitoring
will eventually note that this node is gone.
- To ensure the "100% certainty" criteria, and prevent any possible
spoofing, received discovery messages must contain a proof that the
sender knows a common secret. We use the hash mix of the sending
node/namespace for this purpose, since it can be accessed directly by
all other namespaces in the kernel. Upon reception of a discovery
message, the receiver checks this proof against all the local
namespaces'hash_mix:es. If it finds a match, that, along with a
matching node id and cluster id, this is deemed sufficient proof that
the peer node in question is in a local namespace, and a wormhole can
be opened.
- We should also consider that TIPC is intended to be a cluster local
IPC mechanism (just like e.g. UNIX sockets) rather than a network
protocol, and hence we think it can justified to allow it to shortcut the
lower protocol layers.
Regarding traceability, we should notice that since commit 6c9081a391
("tipc: add loopback device tracking") it is possible to follow the node
internal packet flow by just activating tcpdump on the loopback
interface. This will be true even for this mechanism; by activating
tcpdump on the involved nodes' loopback interfaces their inter-name
space messaging can easily be tracked.

sk->sk_backlog.len can be written by BH handlers, and read
from process contexts in a lockless way.
Note the write side should also use WRITE_ONCE() or a variant.
We need some agreement about the best way to do this.

sk_add_backlog() callers usually read sk->sk_rcvbuf without
owning the socket lock. This means sk_rcvbuf value can
be changed by other cpus, and KCSAN complains.
Add READ_ONCE() annotations to document the lockless nature
of these reads.
Note that writes over sk_rcvbuf should also use WRITE_ONCE(),
but this will be done in separate patches to ease stable
backports (if we decide this is relevant for stable trees).

__tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() calls tipc_nl_publ_dump() which expects
the attrs to be available by genl_dumpit_info(cb)->attrs. Add info

We have identified a problem with the "oversubscription" policy in the
link transmission code.
When small messages are transmitted, and the sending link has reached
the transmit window limit, those messages will be bundled and put into
the link backlog queue. However, bundles of data messages are counted
at the 'CRITICAL' level, so that the counter for that level, instead of
the counter for the real, bundled message's level is the one being
increased.
Subsequent, to-be-bundled data messages at non-CRITICAL levels continue
to be tested against the unchanged counter for their own level, while
contributing to an unrestrained increase at the CRITICAL backlog level.
This leaves a gap in congestion control algorithm for small messages
that can result in starvation for other users or a "real" CRITICAL
user. Even that eventually can lead to buffer exhaustion & link reset.
We fix this by keeping a 'target_bskb' buffer pointer at each levels,
then when bundling, we only bundle messages at the same importance
level only. This way, we know exactly how many slots a certain level
have occupied in the queue, so can manage level congestion accurately.
By bundling messages at the same level, we even have more benefits. Let
consider this:
- One socket sends 64-byte messages at the 'CRITICAL' level;
- Another sends 4096-byte messages at the 'LOW' level;
When a 64-byte message comes and is bundled the first time, we put the
overhead of message bundle to it (+ 40-byte header, data copy, etc.)
for later use, but the next message can be a 4096-byte one that cannot
be bundled to the previous one. This means the last bundle carries only
one payload message which is totally inefficient, as for the receiver
also! Later on, another 64-byte message comes, now we make a new bundle
and the same story repeats...
With the new bundling algorithm, this will not happen, the 64-byte
messages will be bundled together even when the 4096-byte message(s)
comes in between. However, if the 4096-byte messages are sent at the
same level i.e. 'CRITICAL', the bundling algorithm will again cause the
same overhead.
Also, the same will happen even with only one socket sending small
messages at a rate close to the link transmit's one, so that, when one
message is bundled, it's transmitted shortly. Then, another message
comes, a new bundle is created and so on...
We will solve this issue radically by another patch.

The policy for handling the skb list locks on the send and receive paths
is simple.
- On the send path we never need to grab the lock on the 'xmitq' list
when the destination is an exernal node.
- On the receive path we always need to grab the lock on the 'inputq'
list, irrespective of source node.
However, when transmitting node local messages those will eventually
end up on the receive path of a local socket, meaning that the argument
'xmitq' in tipc_node_xmit() will become the 'ínputq' argument in the
function tipc_sk_rcv(). This has been handled by always initializing
the spinlock of the 'xmitq' list at message creation, just in case it
may end up on the receive path later, and despite knowing that the lock
in most cases never will be used.
This approach is inaccurate and confusing, and has also concealed the
fact that the stated 'no lock grabbing' policy for the send path is
violated in some cases.
We now clean up this by never initializing the lock at message creation,
instead doing this at the moment we find that the message actually will
enter the receive path. At the same time we fix the four locations
where we incorrectly access the spinlock on the send/error path.
This patch also reverts commit d12cffe932 ("tipc: ensure head->lock
is initialised") which has now become redundant.

This commit eliminates the use of the link 'stale_limit' & 'prev_from'
(besides the already removed - 'stale_cnt') variables in the detection
of repeated retransmit failures as there is no proper way to initialize
them to avoid a false detection, i.e. it is not really a retransmission
failure but due to a garbage values in the variables.
Instead, a jiffies variable will be added to individual skbs (like the
way we restrict the skb retransmissions) in order to mark the first skb
retransmit time. Later on, at the next retransmissions, the timestamp
will be checked to see if the skb in the link transmq is "too stale",
that is, the link tolerance time has passed, so that a link reset will
be ordered. Note, just checking on the first skb in the queue is fine
enough since it must be the oldest one.
A counter is also added to keep track the actual skb retransmissions'
number for later checking when the failure happens.
The downside of this approach is that the skb->cb[] buffer is about to
be exhausted, however it is always able to allocate another memory area
and keep a reference to it when needed.

We set the field 'addr_trial_end' to 'jiffies', instead of the current
value 0, at the moment the node address is initialized. This guarantees
we don't inadvertently enter an address trial period when the node
address is explicitly set by the user.

Since node internal messages are passed directly to the socket, it is not
possible to observe those messages via tcpdump or wireshark.
We now remedy this by making it possible to clone such messages and send
the clones to the loopback interface. The clones are dropped at reception
and have no functional role except making the traffic visible.
The feature is enabled if network taps are active for the loopback device.
pcap filtering restrictions require the messages to be presented to the
receiving side of the loopback device.

In commit 365ad353c2 ("tipc: reduce risk of user starvation during
link congestion") we allowed senders to add exactly one list of extra
buffers to the link backlog queues during link congestion (aka
"oversubscription"). However, the criteria for when to stop adding
wakeup messages to the input queue when the overload abates is
inaccurate, and may cause starvation problems during very high load.
Currently, we stop adding wakeup messages after 10 total failed attempts
where we find that there is no space left in the backlog queue for a
certain importance level. The counter for this is accumulated across all
levels, which may lead the algorithm to leave the loop prematurely,
although there may still be plenty of space available at some levels.
The result is sometimes that messages near the wakeup queue tail are not
added to the input queue as they should be.
We now introduce a more exact algorithm, where we keep adding wakeup
messages to a level as long as the backlog queue has free slots for
the corresponding level, and stop at the moment there are no more such
slots or when there are no more wakeup messages to dequeue.

Commit 2753ca5d90 ("tipc: fix uninit-value in tipc_nl_compat_doit")
broke older tipc tools that use compat interface (e.g. tipc-config from
tipcutils package):

In conjunction with changing the interfaces' MTU (e.g. especially in
the case of a bonding) where the TIPC links are brought up and down
in a short time, a couple of issues were detected with the current link
changeover mechanism:
1) When one link is up but immediately forced down again, the failover
procedure will be carried out in order to failover all the messages in
the link's transmq queue onto the other working link. The link and node
state is also set to FAILINGOVER as part of the process. The message
will be transmited in form of a FAILOVER_MSG, so its size is plus of 40
bytes (= the message header size). There is no problem if the original
message size is not larger than the link's MTU - 40, and indeed this is
the max size of a normal payload messages. However, in the situation
above, because the link has just been up, the messages in the link's
transmq are almost SYNCH_MSGs which had been generated by the link
synching procedure, then their size might reach the max value already!
When the FAILOVER_MSG is built on the top of such a SYNCH_MSG, its size
will exceed the link's MTU. As a result, the messages are dropped
silently and the failover procedure will never end up, the link will
not be able to exit the FAILINGOVER state, so cannot be re-established.
2) The same scenario above can happen more easily in case the MTU of
the links is set differently or when changing. In that case, as long as
a large message in the failure link's transmq queue was built and
fragmented with its link's MTU > the other link's one, the issue will
happen (there is no need of a link synching in advance).
3) The link synching procedure also faces with the same issue but since
the link synching is only started upon receipt of a SYNCH_MSG, dropping
the message will not result in a state deadlock, but it is not expected
as design.
The 1) & 3) issues are resolved by the last commit that only a dummy
SYNCH_MSG (i.e. without data) is generated at the link synching, so the
size of a FAILOVER_MSG if any then will never exceed the link's MTU.
For the 2) issue, the only solution is trying to fragment the messages
in the failure link's transmq queue according to the working link's MTU
so they can be failovered then. A new function is made to accomplish
this, it will still be a TUNNEL PROTOCOL/FAILOVER MSG but if the
original message size is too large, it will be fragmented & reassembled
at the receiving side.

This commit along with the next one are to resolve the issues with the
link changeover mechanism. See that commit for details.
Basically, for the link synching, from now on, we will send only one
single ("dummy") SYNCH message to peer. The SYNCH message does not
contain any data, just a header conveying the synch point to the peer.
A new node capability flag ("TIPC_TUNNEL_ENHANCED") is introduced for
backward compatible!

In the sysctl code the proc_dointvec_minmax() function is often used to
validate the user supplied value between an allowed range. This
function uses the extra1 and extra2 members from struct ctl_table as
minimum and maximum allowed value.
On sysctl handler declaration, in every source file there are some
readonly variables containing just an integer which address is assigned
to the extra1 and extra2 members, so the sysctl range is enforced.
The special values 0, 1 and INT_MAX are very often used as range
boundary, leading duplication of variables like zero=0, one=1,
int_max=INT_MAX in different source files:

The tipc_msg_validate() function leaves a boolean flag 'validated' in
the validated buffer's control block, to avoid performing this action
more than once. However, at reception of new packets, the position of
this field may already have been set by lower layer protocols, so
that the packet is erroneously perceived as already validated by TIPC.
We fix this by initializing the said field to 'false' before performing
the initial validation.

tipc_named_node_up() creates a skb list. It passes the list to
tipc_node_xmit() which has some code paths that can call
skb_queue_purge() which relies on the list->lock being initialised.
The spin_lock is only needed if the messages end up on the receive path
but when the list is created in tipc_named_node_up() we don't
necessarily know if it is going to end up there.
Once all the skb list users are updated in tipc it will then be possible
to update them to use the unlocked variants of the skb list functions
and initialise the lock when we know the message will follow the receive
path.

For these places are protected by rcu_read_lock, we change from
rcu_dereference_rtnl to rcu_dereference, as there is no need to
check if rtnl lock is held.
For these places are protected by rtnl_lock, we change from
rcu_dereference_rtnl to rtnl_dereference/rcu_dereference_protected,
as no extra memory barriers are needed under rtnl_lock() which also
protects tn->bearer_list[] and dev->tipc_ptr/b->media_ptr updating.
rcu_dereference_rtnl will be only used in the places where it could
be under rcu_read_lock or rtnl_lock.

Both tipc_udp_enable and tipc_udp_disable are called under rtnl_lock,
ub->ubsock could never be NULL in tipc_udp_disable and cleanup_bearer,
so remove the check.
Also remove the one in tipc_udp_enable by adding "free" label.

The macro TIPC_BC_RETR_LIM is always used in combination with 'jiffies',
so we can just as well perform the addition in the macro itself. This
way, we get a few shorter code lines and one less line break.

As other udp/ip tunnels do, tipc udp media should also have a
lockless dst_cache supported on its tx path.
Here we add dst_cache into udp_replicast to support dst cache
for both rmcast and rcast, and rmcast uses ub->rcast and each
rcast uses its own node in ub->rcast.list.

The new route handling in ip_mc_finish_output() from 'net' overlapped
with the new support for returning congestion notifications from BPF
programs.
In order to handle this I had to take the dev_loopback_xmit() calls
out of the switch statement.
The aquantia driver conflicts were simple overlapping changes.

We increase the allocated headroom for the buffer copies to be
retransmitted. This eliminates the need for the lower stack levels
(UDP/IP/L2) to expand the headroom in order to add their own headers.

In commit a4dc70d46c ("tipc: extend link reset criteria for stale
packet retransmission") we made link retransmission failure events
dependent on the link tolerance, and not only of the number of failed
retransmission attempts, as we did earlier. This works well. However,
keeping the original, additional criteria of 99 failed retransmissions
is now redundant, and may in some cases lead to failure detection
times in the order of minutes instead of the expected 1.5 sec link
tolerance value.
We now remove this criteria altogether.

TLV_GET_DATA_LEN() may return a negtive int value, which will be
used as size_t (becoming a big unsigned long) passed into memchr,
cause this issue.
Similar to what it does in tipc_nl_compat_bearer_enable(), this
fix is to return -EINVAL when TLV_GET_DATA_LEN() is negtive in
tipc_nl_compat_bearer_disable(), as well as in
tipc_nl_compat_link_stat_dump() and tipc_nl_compat_link_reset_stats().

This patch is to fix a dst defcnt leak, which can be reproduced by doing:

The cause is that a dst is held by the udp sock's sk_rx_dst set on udp rx
path with udp_early_demux == 1, and this dst (eventually holding lo dev)
can't be released as bearer's removal in tipc pernet .exit happens after
lo dev's removal, default_device pernet .exit.
"There are two distinct types of pernet_operations recognized: subsys and
device. At creation all subsys init functions are called before device
init functions, and at destruction all device exit functions are called
before subsys exit function."
So by calling register_pernet_device instead to register tipc_net_ops, the
pernet .exit() will be invoked earlier than loopback dev's removal when a
netns is being destroyed, as fou/gue does.
Note that vxlan and geneve udp tunnels don't have this issue, as the udp
sock is released in their device ndo_stop().
This fix is also necessary for tipc dst_cache, which will hold dsts on tx
path and I will introduce in my next patch.

udp_tunnel(6)_xmit_skb() called by tipc_udp_xmit() expects a tunnel device
to count packets on dev->tstats, a perpcu variable. However, TIPC is using
udp tunnel with no tunnel device, and pass the lower dev, like veth device
that only initializes dev->lstats(a perpcu variable) when creating it.
Later iptunnel_xmit_stats() called by ip(6)tunnel_xmit() thinks the dev as
a tunnel device, and uses dev->tstats instead of dev->lstats. tstats' each
pointer points to a bigger struct than lstats, so when tstats->tx_bytes is
increased, other percpu variable's members could be overwritten.
syzbot has reported quite a few crashes due to fib_nh_common percpu member

The issue exists since tunnel stats update is moved to iptunnel_xmit by
Commit 039f50629b ("ip_tunnel: Move stats update to iptunnel_xmit()"),

It appears that a FAILOVER_MSG can come from peer even when the failure
link is resetting (i.e. just after the 'node_write_unlock()'...). This
means the failover procedure on the node has not been started yet.
The situation is as follows:

Once this happens, the link failover procedure will be triggered
wrongly on the receiving node since the node isn't in FAILINGOVER state
but then another link failover will be carried out.
The consequences are:
1) A peer might get stuck in FAILINGOVER state because the 'sync_point'
was set, reset and set incorrectly, the criteria to end the failover
would not be met, it could keep waiting for a message that has already
received.
2) The early FAILOVER_MSG(s) could be queued in the link failover
deferdq but would be purged or not pulled out because the 'drop_point'
was not set correctly.
3) The early FAILOVER_MSG(s) could be dropped too.
4) The dummy FAILOVER_MSG could make the peer leaving FAILINGOVER state
shortly, but later on it would be restarted.
The same situation can also happen when the link is in PEER_RESET state
and a FAILOVER_MSG arrives.
The commit resolves the issues by forcing the link down immediately, so
the failover procedure will be started normally (which is the same as
when receiving a FAILOVER_MSG and the link is in up state).
Also, the function "tipc_node_link_failover()" is toughen to avoid such
a situation from happening.

In patch series, commit 9195948fbf ("tipc: improve TIPC throughput by
Gap ACK blocks"), as for simplicity, the repeated retransmit failures'
detection in the function - "tipc_link_retrans()" was kept there for
broadcast retransmissions only.
This commit now reapplies this feature for link unicast retransmissions
that has been done via the function - "tipc_link_advance_transmq()".
Also, the "tipc_link_retrans()" is renamed to "tipc_link_bc_retrans()"
as it is used only for broadcast.

Syzbot reported a memleak caused by grp members' deferredq list not
purged when the grp is be deleted.
The issue occurs when more(msg_grp_bc_seqno(hdr), m->bc_rcv_nxt) in
tipc_group_filter_msg() and the skb will stay in deferredq.
So fix it by calling __skb_queue_purge for each member's deferredq
in tipc_group_delete() when a tipc sk leaves the grp.

The kbuild documentation clearly shows that the documents
there are written at different times: some use markdown,
some use their own peculiar logic to split sections.
Convert everything to ReST without affecting too much
the author's style and avoiding adding uneeded markups.
The conversion is actually:
- add blank lines and identation in order to identify paragraphs;
- fix tables markups;
- add some lists markups;
- mark literal blocks;
- adjust title markups.
At its new index.rst, let's add a :orphan: while this is not linked to
the main index.rst file, in order to avoid build warnings.

Here are series of patches that add SPDX tags to different kernel files,
based on two different things:
- SPDX entries are added to a bunch of files that we missed a year ago
that do not have any license information at all.
These were either missed because the tool saw the MODULE_LICENSE()
tag, or some EXPORT_SYMBOL tags, and got confused and thought the
file had a real license, or the files have been added since the last
big sweep, or they were Makefile/Kconfig files, which we didn't
touch last time.
- Add GPL-2.0-only or GPL-2.0-or-later tags to files where our scan
tools can determine the license text in the file itself. Where this
happens, the license text is removed, in order to cut down on the
700+ different ways we have in the kernel today, in a quest to get
rid of all of these.
These patches have been out for review on the linux-spdx@vger mailing
list, and while they were created by automatic tools, they were
hand-verified by a bunch of different people, all whom names are on the
patches are reviewers.
The reason for these "large" patches is if we were to continue to
progress at the current rate of change in the kernel, adding license
tags to individual files in different subsystems, we would be finished
in about 10 years at the earliest.
There will be more series of these types of patches coming over the next
few weeks as the tools and reviewers crunch through the more "odd"
variants of how to say "GPLv2" that developers have come up with over
the years, combined with other fun oddities (GPL + a BSD disclaimer?)
that are being unearthed, with the goal for the whole kernel to be
cleaned up.
These diffstats are not small, 3840 files are touched, over 10k lines
removed in just 24 patches.

Because sock_create_kern(net, AF_TIPC, ...) called by
tipc_topsrv_create_listener() in the initialization process
of tipc_init_net(), so tipc_socket_init() must be execute before that.
Meanwhile, tipc_net_id need to be initialized when sock_create()
called, and tipc_socket_init() is no need to be called for each namespace.
I add a variable tipc_topsrv_net_ops, and split the
register_pernet_subsys() of tipc into two parts, and split
tipc_socket_init() with initialization of pernet params.
By the way, I fixed resources rollback error when tipc_bcast_init()
failed in tipc_init_net().

When tipc is loaded while many processes try to create a TIPC socket,
a crash occurs:

This is due to race between sock_create and unfinished
register_pernet_device. tipc_sk_insert tries to do
"net_generic(net, tipc_net_id)".
but tipc_net_id is not initialized yet.
So switch the order of the two to close the race.
This can be reproduced with multiple processes doing socket(AF_TIPC, ...)
and one process doing module removal.

commit 517d7c79bd ("tipc: fix hanging poll() for stream sockets")
introduced a regression for clients using non-blocking sockets.
After the commit, we send EPOLLOUT event to the client even in
TIPC_CONNECTING state. This causes the subsequent send() to fail
with ENOTCONN, as the socket is still not in TIPC_ESTABLISHED state.
In this commit, we:
- improve the fix for hanging poll() by replacing sk_data_ready()
with sk_state_change() to wake up all clients.
- revert the faulty updates introduced by commit 517d7c79bd
("tipc: fix hanging poll() for stream sockets").

TIPC link can temporarily fall into "half-establish" that only one of
the link endpoints is ESTABLISHED and starts to send traffic, PROTOCOL
messages, whereas the other link endpoint is not up (e.g. immediately
when the endpoint receives ACTIVATE_MSG, the network interface goes
down...).
This is a normal situation and will be settled because the link
endpoint will be eventually brought down after the link tolerance time.
However, the situation will become worse when the second link is
established before the first link endpoint goes down,
For example:
1. Both links <1A-2A>, <1B-2B> down
2. Link endpoint 2A up, but 1A still down (e.g. due to network
disturbance, wrong session, etc.)
3. Link <1B-2B> up
4. Link endpoint 2A down (e.g. due to link tolerance timeout)
5. Node B starts failover onto link <1B-2B>
==> Node A does never start link failover.
When the "half-failover" situation happens, two consequences have been
observed:
a) Peer link/node gets stuck in FAILINGOVER state;
b) Traffic or user messages that peer node is trying to failover onto
the second link can be partially or completely dropped by this node.
The consequence a) was actually solved by commit c140eb166d ("tipc:
fix failover problem"), but that commit didn't cover the b). It's due
to the fact that the tunnel link endpoint has never been prepared for a
failover, so the 'l->drop_point' (and the other data...) is not set
correctly. When a TUNNEL_MSG from peer node arrives on the link,
depending on the inner message's seqno and the current 'l->drop_point'
value, the message can be dropped (- treated as a duplicate message) or
processed.
At this early stage, the traffic messages from peer are likely to be
NAME_DISTRIBUTORs, this means some name table entries will be missed on
the node forever!
The commit resolves the issue by starting the FAILOVER process on this
node as well. Another benefit from this solution is that we ensure the
link will not be re-established until the failover ends.

Add options to strictly validate messages and dump messages,
sometimes perhaps validating dump messages non-strictly may
be required, so add an option for that as well.
Since none of this can really be applied to existing commands,
set the options everwhere using the following spatch:

We currently have two levels of strict validation:
1) liberal (default)
- undefined (type >= max) & NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
- garbage at end of message accepted
2) strict (opt-in)
- NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
Split out parsing strictness into four different options:
* TRAILING - check that there's no trailing data after parsing
attributes (in message or nested)
* MAXTYPE - reject attrs > max known type
* UNSPEC - reject attributes with NLA_UNSPEC policy entries
* STRICT_ATTRS - strictly validate attribute size
The default for future things should be *everything*.
The current *_strict() is a combination of TRAILING and MAXTYPE,
and is renamed to _deprecated_strict().
The current regular parsing has none of this, and is renamed to
*_parse_deprecated().
Additionally it allows us to selectively set one of the new flags
even on old policies. Notably, the UNSPEC flag could be useful in
this case, since it can be arranged (by filling in the policy) to
not be an incompatible userspace ABI change, but would then going
forward prevent forgetting attribute entries. Similar can apply
to the POLICY flag.
We end up with the following renames:
* nla_parse -> nla_parse_deprecated
* nla_parse_strict -> nla_parse_deprecated_strict
* nlmsg_parse -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated

For this patch, don't actually add the strict, non-renamed versions
yet so that it breaks compile if I get it wrong.
Also, while at it, make nla_validate and nla_parse go down to a

new caller of nla_parse()/nlmsg_parse() etc as re-introduced in the
next patch, while existing things will continue to work as is.
In effect then, this adds fully strict validation for any new command.

Even if the NLA_F_NESTED flag was introduced more than 11 years ago, most
netlink based interfaces (including recently added ones) are still not
setting it in kernel generated messages. Without the flag, message parsers
not aware of attribute semantics (e.g. wireshark dissector or libmnl's
mnl_nlmsg_fprintf()) cannot recognize nested attributes and won't display
the structure of their contents.
Unfortunately we cannot just add the flag everywhere as there may be
userspace applications which check nlattr::nla_type directly rather than
through a helper masking out the flags. Therefore the patch renames
nla_nest_start() to nla_nest_start_noflag() and introduces nla_nest_start()
as a wrapper adding NLA_F_NESTED. The calls which add NLA_F_NESTED manually
are rewritten to use nla_nest_start().
Except for changes in include/net/netlink.h, the patch was generated using

First thing tipc_udp_recv() does is to use rcu_dereference_sk_user_data(),
and this is really hinting we already own rcu_read_lock() from the caller
(UDP stack).
No need to add another rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock() pair.
Also use rcu_dereference() instead of rcu_dereference_rtnl()
in the data path.

When using TIPC_SOCK_RECVQ_DEPTH for getsockopt(), it returns the
number of buffers in receive socket buffer which is not so helpful
for user space applications.
This commit introduces the new option TIPC_SOCK_RECVQ_USED which
returns the current allocated bytes of the receive socket buffer.
This helps user space applications dimension its buffer usage to
avoid buffer overload issue.

We find that sysctl_tipc_rmem and named_timeout do not have the right minimum
setting. sysctl_tipc_rmem should be larger than zero, like sysctl_tcp_rmem.
And named_timeout as a timeout setting should be not less than zero.

According to the link FSM, when a link endpoint got RESET_MSG (- a
traditional one without the stopping bit) from its peer, it moves to
PEER_RESET state and raises a LINK_DOWN event which then resets the
link itself. Its state will become ESTABLISHING after the reset event
and the link will be re-established soon after this endpoint starts to
send ACTIVATE_MSG to the peer.
There is no problem with this mechanism, however the link resetting has
cleared the link 'in_session' flag (along with the other important link
data such as: the link 'mtu') that was correctly set up at the 1st step
(i.e. when this endpoint received the peer RESET_MSG). As a result, the
link will become ESTABLISHED, but the 'in_session' flag is not set, and
all STATE_MSG from its peer will be dropped at the link_validate_msg().
It means the link not synced and will sooner or later face a failure.
Since the link reset action is obviously needed for a new link session
(this is also true in the other situations), the problem here is that
the link is re-established a bit too early when the link endpoints are
not really in-sync yet. The commit forces a resync as already done in
the previous commit 91986ee166 ("tipc: fix link session and
re-establish issues") by simply varying the link 'peer_session' value
at the link_reset().

In the function tipc_node_create() we protect the peer capability field
by using the node rw_lock. However, we access the lock directly instead
of using the dedicated functions for this, as we do everywhere else in
node.c. This cosmetic spot is fixed here.

When binding multiple services with specific type 1Ki, 2Ki..,
this leads to some entries in the name table of publications
missing when listed out via 'tipc name show'.
The problem is at identify zero last_type conditional provided
via netlink. The first is initial 'type' when starting name table
dummping. The second is continuously with zero type (node state
service type). Then, lookup function failure to finding node state
service type in next iteration.
To solve this, adding more conditional to marked as dirty type and
lookup correct service type for the next iteration instead of select
the first service as initial 'type' zero.

In commit 0ae955e2656d ("tipc: improve TIPC throughput by Gap ACK
blocks"), we enhance the link transmq by releasing as many packets as
possible with the multi-ACKs from peer node. This also means the queue
is now non-linear and the peer link deferdq becomes vital.
Whereas, in the case of link failover, all messages in the link transmq
need to be transmitted as tunnel messages in such a way that message
sequentiality and cardinality per sender is preserved. This requires us
to maintain the link deferdq somehow, so that when the tunnel messages
arrive, the inner user messages along with the ones in the deferdq will
be delivered to upper layer correctly.
The commit accomplishes this by defining a new queue in the TIPC link
structure to hold the old link deferdq when link failover happens and
process it upon receipt of tunnel messages.
Also, in the case of link syncing, the link deferdq will not be purged
to avoid unnecessary retransmissions that in the worst case will fail
because the packets might have been freed on the sending side.

For unicast transmission, the current NACK sending althorithm is over-
active that forces the sending side to retransmit a packet that is not
really lost but just arrived at the receiving side with some delay, or
even retransmit same packets that have already been retransmitted
before. As a result, many duplicates are observed also under normal
condition, ie. without packet loss.
One example case is: node1 transmits 1 2 3 4 10 5 6 7 8 9, when node2
receives packet #10, it puts into the deferdq. When the packet #5 comes
it sends NACK with gap [6 - 9]. However, shortly after that, when
packet #6 arrives, it pulls out packet #10 from the deferfq, but it is
still out of order, so it makes another NACK with gap [7 - 9] and so on
... Finally, node1 has to retransmit the packets 5 6 7 8 9 a number of
times, but in fact all the packets are not lost at all, so duplicates!
This commit reduces duplicates by changing the condition to send NACK,
also restricting the retransmissions on individual packets via a timer
of about 1ms. However, it also needs to say that too tricky condition
for NACKs or too long timeout value for retransmissions will result in
performance reducing! The criterias in this commit are found to be
effective for both the requirements to reduce duplicates but not affect
performance.
The tipc_link_rcv() is also improved to only dequeue skb from the link
deferdq if it is expected (ie. its seqno <= rcv_nxt).

During unicast link transmission, it's observed very often that because
of one or a few lost/dis-ordered packets, the sending side will fastly
reach the send window limit and must wait for the packets to be arrived
at the receiving side or in the worst case, a retransmission must be
done first. The sending side cannot release a lot of subsequent packets
in its transmq even though all of them might have already been received
by the receiving side.
That is, one or two packets dis-ordered/lost and dozens of packets have
to wait, this obviously reduces the overall throughput!
This commit introduces an algorithm to overcome this by using "Gap ACK
blocks". Basically, a Gap ACK block will consist of <ack, gap> numbers
that describes the link deferdq where packets have been got by the
receiving side but with gaps, for example:
link deferdq: [1 2 3 4 10 11 13 14 15 20]
--> Gap ACK blocks: <4, 5>, <11, 1>, <15, 4>, <20, 0>
The Gap ACK blocks will be sent to the sending side along with the
traditional ACK or NACK message. Immediately when receiving the message
the sending side will now not only release from its transmq the packets
ack-ed by the ACK but also by the Gap ACK blocks! So, more packets can
be enqueued and transmitted.
In addition, the sending side can now do "multi-retransmissions"
according to the Gaps reported in the Gap ACK blocks.
The new algorithm as verified helps greatly improve the TIPC throughput
especially under packet loss condition.
So far, a maximum of 32 blocks is quite enough without any "Too few Gap
ACK blocks" reports with a 5.0% packet loss rate, however this number
can be increased in the furture if needed.
Also, the patch is backward compatible.

It was supposed to be fixed on commit 974cb0e3e7 ("tipc: fix uninit-value
in tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump") by checking TLV_GET_DATA_LEN(msg->req)
in cmd->header()/tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump_header(), which is called
ahead of tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump().
However, tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() doesn't handle the error returned from cmd
header function. It means even when the check added in that fix fails, it
won't stop calling tipc_nl_compat_name_table_dump(), and the issue will be
triggered again.
So this patch is to add the process for the err returned from cmd header
function in tipc_nl_compat_dumpit().

It was triggered when the bearer name size < TIPC_MAX_BEARER_NAME,
it would check with a wrong len/TLV_GET_DATA_LEN(msg->req), which
also includes priority and disc_domain length.
This patch is to fix it by checking it with a right length:

It was caused by the netns freed without deleting the discoverer timer,
while later on the netns would be accessed in the timer handler.
The timer should have been deleted by tipc_net_stop() when cleaning up a
netns. However, tipc has been able to enable a bearer and start d->timer
without the local node_addr set since Commit 52dfae5c85 ("tipc: obtain
node identity from interface by default"), which caused the timer not to
be deleted in tipc_net_stop() then.
So fix it in tipc_net_stop() by changing to check local node_id instead
of local node_addr, as Jon suggested.
While at it, remove the calling of tipc_nametbl_withdraw() there, since
tipc_nametbl_stop() will take of the nametbl's freeing after.

we also test if 'xmitq' is non-empty before we use it and 'maddr'

Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely,
so make it common as well.
The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy
is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's
still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but
we can fake it using pre_doit.
This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands):

When cancelling a subscription, we have to clear the cancel bit in the
request before iterating over any established subscriptions with memcmp.
Otherwise no subscription will ever be found, and it will not be
possible to explicitly unsubscribe individual subscriptions.

Currently, a multicast stream may start out using replicast, because
there are few destinations, and then it should ideally switch to
L2/broadcast IGMP/multicast when the number of destinations grows beyond
a certain limit. The opposite should happen when the number decreases
below the limit.
To eliminate the risk of message reordering caused by method change,
a sending socket must stick to a previously selected method until it
enters an idle period of 5 seconds. Means there is a 5 seconds pause
in the traffic from the sender socket.
If the sender never makes such a pause, the method will never change,
and transmission may become very inefficient as the cluster grows.
With this commit, we allow such a switch between replicast and
broadcast without any need for a traffic pause.
Solution is to send a dummy message with only the header, also with
the SYN bit set, via broadcast or replicast. For the data message,
the SYN bit is set and sending via replicast or broadcast (inverse
method with dummy).
Then, at receiving side any messages follow first SYN bit message
(data or dummy message), they will be held in deferred queue until
another pair (dummy or data message) arrived in other link.

As a preparation for introducing a smooth switching between replicast
and broadcast method for multicast message, We have to introduce a new
capability flag TIPC_MCAST_RBCTL to handle this new feature.
During a cluster upgrade a node can come back with this new capabilities
which also must be reflected in the cluster capabilities field.
The new feature is only applicable if all node in the cluster supports
this new capability.

Currently, a multicast stream uses either broadcast or replicast as
transmission method, based on the ratio between number of actual
destinations nodes and cluster size.
However, when an L2 interface (e.g., VXLAN) provides pseudo
broadcast support, this becomes very inefficient, as it blindly
replicates multicast packets to all cluster/subnet nodes,
irrespective of whether they host actual target sockets or not.
The TIPC multicast algorithm is able to distinguish real destination
nodes from other nodes, and hence provides a smarter and more
efficient method for transferring multicast messages than
pseudo broadcast can do.
Because of this, we now make it possible for users to force
the broadcast link to permanently switch to using replicast,
irrespective of which capabilities the bearer provides,
or pretend to provide.
Conversely, we also make it possible to force the broadcast link
to always use true broadcast. While maybe less useful in
deployed systems, this may at least be useful for testing the
broadcast algorithm in small clusters.
We retain the current AUTOSELECT ability, i.e., to let the broadcast link
automatically select which algorithm to use, and to switch back and forth
between broadcast and replicast as the ratio between destination
node number and cluster size changes. This remains the default method.
Furthermore, we make it possible to configure the threshold ratio for
such switches. The default ratio is now set to 10%, down from 25% in the
earlier implementation.

When sending multicast messages via blocking socket,
if sending link is congested (tsk->cong_link_cnt is set to 1),
the sending thread will be put into sleeping state. However,
tipc_sk_filter_rcv() is called under socket spin lock but
tipc_wait_for_cond() is not. So, there is no guarantee that
the setting of tsk->cong_link_cnt to 0 in tipc_sk_proto_rcv() in
CPU-1 will be perceived by CPU-0. If that is the case, the sending
thread in CPU-0 after being waken up, will continue to see
tsk->cong_link_cnt as 1 and put the sending thread into sleeping
state again. The sending thread will sleep forever.

Three conflicts, one of which, for marvell10g.c is non-trivial and
requires some follow-up from Heiner or someone else.
The issue is that Heiner converted the marvell10g driver over to
use the generic c45 code as much as possible.
However, in 'net' a bug fix appeared which makes sure that a new
local mask (MDIO_AN_10GBT_CTRL_ADV_NBT_MASK) with value 0x01e0
is cleared.

This commit replaces schedule_timeout() with wait_woken()
in function tipc_wait_for_rcvmsg(). wait_woken() uses
memory barriers in its implementation to avoid potential
race condition when putting a process into sleeping state
and then waking it up.

The netfilter conflicts were rather simple overlapping
changes.
However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.
On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks. Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.
What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU. I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to
implement the race fix slightly differently.

When a link endpoint is re-created (e.g. after a node reboot or
interface reset), the link session number is varied by random, the peer
endpoint will be synced with this new session number before the link is
re-established.
However, there is a shortcoming in this mechanism that can lead to the
link never re-established or faced with a failure then. It happens when
the peer endpoint is ready in ESTABLISHING state, the 'peer_session' as
well as the 'in_session' flag have been set, but suddenly this link
endpoint leaves. When it comes back with a random session number, there
are two situations possible:
1/ If the random session number is larger than (or equal to) the
previous one, the peer endpoint will be updated with this new session
upon receipt of a RESET_MSG from this endpoint, and the link can be re-
established as normal. Otherwise, all the RESET_MSGs from this endpoint
will be rejected by the peer. In turn, when this link endpoint receives
one ACTIVATE_MSG from the peer, it will move to ESTABLISHED and start
to send STATE_MSGs, but again these messages will be dropped by the
peer due to wrong session.
The peer link endpoint can still become ESTABLISHED after receiving a
traffic message from this endpoint (e.g. a BCAST_PROTOCOL or
NAME_DISTRIBUTOR), but since all the STATE_MSGs are invalid, the link
will be forced down sooner or later!
Even in case the random session number is larger than the previous one,
it can be that the ACTIVATE_MSG from the peer arrives first, and this
link endpoint moves quickly to ESTABLISHED without sending out any
RESET_MSG yet. Consequently, the peer link will not be updated with the
new session number, and the same link failure scenario as above will
happen.
2/ Another situation can be that, the peer link endpoint was reset due
to any reasons in the meantime, its link state was set to RESET from
ESTABLISHING but still in session, i.e. the 'in_session' flag is not
reset...
Now, if the random session number from this endpoint is less than the
previous one, all the RESET_MSGs from this endpoint will be rejected by
the peer. In the other direction, when this link endpoint receives a
RESET_MSG from the peer, it moves to ESTABLISHING and starts to send
ACTIVATE_MSGs, but all these messages will be rejected by the peer too.
As a result, the link cannot be re-established but gets stuck with this
link endpoint in state ESTABLISHING and the peer in RESET!
Solution:
===========
This link endpoint should not go directly to ESTABLISHED when getting
ACTIVATE_MSG from the peer which may belong to the old session if the
link was re-created. To ensure the session to be correct before the
link is re-established, the peer endpoint in ESTABLISHING state will
send back the last session number in ACTIVATE_MSG for a verification at
this endpoint. Then, if needed, a new and more appropriate session
number will be regenerated to force a re-synch first.
In addition, when a link in ESTABLISHING state is reset, its state will
move to RESET according to the link FSM, along with resetting the
'in_session' flag (and the other data) as a normal link reset, it will
also be deleted if requested.
The solution is backward compatible.

When we free skb at tipc_data_input, we return a 'false' boolean.
Then, skb passed to subcalling tipc_link_input in tipc_link_rcv,

In tipc_nl_compat_recv(), when the len variable returned by
nlmsg_attrlen() is 0, the message is still treated as a valid one,
which is obviously unresonable. When len is zero, it means the
message not only doesn't contain any valid TLV payload, but also
TLV header is not included. Under this stituation, tlv_type field
in TLV header is still accessed in tipc_nl_compat_dumpit() or
tipc_nl_compat_doit(), but the field space is obviously illegal.
Of course, it is not initialized.

In tipc_conn_rcv_from_sock(), it always supposes the length of message
received from sock_recvmsg() is not smaller than the size of struct
tipc_subscr. However, this assumption is false. Especially when the
length of received message is shorter than struct tipc_subscr size,
we will end up touching uninitialized fields in tipc_conn_rcv_sub().

When sending broadcast message on high load system, there are a lot of
unnecessary packets restranmission. That issue was caused by missing in
initial criteria for retransmission.
To prevent this happen, just initialize this criteria for retransmission
in next 10 milliseconds.

Note:
a) All the socket traces are designed to be able to trace on a specific
socket by either using the 'event filtering' feature on a known socket
'portid' value or the sysctl file:
/proc/sys/net/tipc/sk_filter
The file determines a 'tuple' for what socket should be traced:
(portid, sock type, name type, name lower, name upper)
where:
+ 'portid' is the socket portid generated at socket creating, can be
found in the trace outputs or the 'tipc socket list' command printouts;
+ 'sock type' is the socket type (1 = SOCK_TREAM, ...);
+ 'name type', 'name lower' and 'name upper' are the service name being
connected to or published by the socket.
Value '0' means 'ANY', the default tuple value is (0, 0, 0, 0, 0) i.e.
the traces happen for every sockets with no filter.
b) The 'tipc_sk_overlimit1/2' event is also a conditional trace_event
which happens when the socket receive queue (and backlog queue) is
about to be overloaded, when the queue allocation is > 90%. Then, when
the trace is enabled, the last skbs leading to the TIPC_ERR_OVERLOAD/2
issue can be traced.
The trace event is designed as an 'upper watermark' notification that
the other traces (e.g. 'tipc_sk_advance_rx' vs 'tipc_sk_filter_rcv') or
actions can be triggerred in the meanwhile to see what is going on with
the socket queue.
In addition, the 'trace_tipc_sk_dump()' is also placed at the
'TIPC_ERR_OVERLOAD/2' case, so the socket and last skb can be dumped
for post-analysis.

Note:
a) The 'tipc_link_too_silent' event will only happen when the
'silent_intv_cnt' is about to reach the 'abort_limit' value (and the
event is enabled). The benefit for this kind of event is that we can
get an early indication about TIPC link loss issue due to timeout, then
can do some necessary actions for troubleshooting.
For example: To trigger the 'tipc_proto_rcv' when the 'too_silent'
event occurs:

trace TIPC retransmission issues.
In addition, the commit adds the 'trace_tipc_list/link_dump()' at the
'retransmission failure' case. Then, if the issue occurs, the link
'transmq' along with the link data can be dumped for post-analysis.
These dump events should be enabled by default since it will only take
effect when the failure happens.
The same approach is also applied for the faulty case that the
validation of protocol message is failed.

As for the sake of debugging/tracing, the commit enables tracepoints in
TIPC along with some general trace_events as shown below. It also
defines some 'tipc_*_dump()' functions that allow to dump TIPC object
data whenever needed, that is, for general debug purposes, ie. not just
for the trace_events.
The following trace_events are now available:
- trace_tipc_skb_dump(): allows to trace and dump TIPC msg & skb data,
e.g. message type, user, droppable, skb truesize, cloned skb, etc.
- trace_tipc_list_dump(): allows to trace and dump any TIPC buffers or
queues, e.g. TIPC link transmq, socket receive queue, etc.
- trace_tipc_sk_dump(): allows to trace and dump TIPC socket data, e.g.
sk state, sk type, connection type, rmem_alloc, socket queues, etc.
- trace_tipc_link_dump(): allows to trace and dump TIPC link data, e.g.
link state, silent_intv_cnt, gap, bc_gap, link queues, etc.
- trace_tipc_node_dump(): allows to trace and dump TIPC node data, e.g.
node state, active links, capabilities, link entries, etc.
How to use:
Put the trace functions at any places where we want to dump TIPC data
or events.
Note:
a) The dump functions will generate raw data only, that is, to offload
the trace event's processing, it can require a tool or script to parse
the data but this should be simple.
b) The trace_tipc_*_dump() should be reserved for a failure cases only
(e.g. the retransmission failure case) or where we do not expect to
happen too often, then we can consider enabling these events by default
since they will almost not take any effects under normal conditions,
but once the rare condition or failure occurs, we get the dumped data
fully for post-analysis.
For other trace purposes, we can reuse these trace classes as template
but different events.
c) A trace_event is only effective when we enable it. To enable the
TIPC trace_events, echo 1 to 'enable' files in the events/tipc/
directory in the 'debugfs' file system. Normally, they are located at:
/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/tipc/
For example:
To enable the tipc_link_dump event:

NAME_DISTRIBUTOR messages are transmitted through unicast link on TIPC
2.0, by contrast, the messages are delivered through broadcast link on
TIPC 1.7. But at present, NAME_DISTRIBUTOR messages received by
broadcast link cannot be handled in tipc_rcv() until an unicast message
arrives, which may lead to a significant delay to update name table.
To avoid this delay, we will also deal with broadcast NAME_DISTRIBUTOR
message on broadcast receive path.

we have to reload grp->dests too after we re-take the sock lock.
This means we need to move the dsts check after tipc_wait_for_cond()

tipc_wait_for_cond() drops socket lock before going to sleep,
but tsk->group could be freed right after that release_sock().
So we have to re-check and reload tsk->group after it wakes up.
After this patch, tipc_wait_for_cond() returns -ERESTARTSYS when
tsk->group is NULL, instead of continuing with the assumption of
a non-NULL tsk->group.
(It looks like 'dsts' should be re-checked and reloaded too, but
it is a different bug.)
Similar for tipc_send_group_unicast() and tipc_send_group_anycast().

When TIPC_NLA_UDP_REMOTE is an IPv6 mcast address but
TIPC_NLA_UDP_LOCAL is an IPv4 address, a NULL-ptr deref is triggered
as the UDP tunnel sock is initialized to IPv4 or IPv6 sock merely
based on the protocol in local address.
We should just error out when the remote address and local address
have different protocols.

lock_sock() must be used in process context to be race-free with
other lock_sock() callers, for example, tipc_release(). Otherwise
using the spinlock directly can't serialize a parallel tipc_release().
As it is blocking, we have to hold the sock refcnt before
rhashtable_walk_stop() and release it after rhashtable_walk_start().

When setting LINK tolerance, node timer interval will be calculated
base on the LINK with lowest tolerance.
But when calculated, the old node timer interval only updated if current
setting value (tolerance/4) less than old ones regardless of number of
links as well as links' lowest tolerance value.
This caused to two cases missing if tolerance changed as following:
Case 1:
1.1/ There is one link (L1) available in the system
1.2/ Set L1's tolerance from 1500ms => lower (i.e 500ms)
1.3/ Then, fallback to default (1500ms) or higher (i.e 2000ms)
Expected:
node timer interval is 1500/4=375ms after 1.3
Result:
node timer interval will not being updated after changing tolerance at 1.3
since its value 1500/4=375ms is not less than 500/4=125ms at 1.2.
Case 2:
2.1/ There are two links (L1, L2) available in the system
2.2/ L1 and L2 tolerance value are 2000ms as initial
2.3/ Set L2's tolerance from 2000ms => lower 1500ms
2.4/ Disable link L2 (bring down its bearer)
Expected:
node timer interval is 2000ms/4=500ms after 2.4
Result:
node timer interval will not being updated after disabling L2 since
its value 2000ms/4=500ms is still not less than 1500/4=375ms at 2.3
although L2 is already not available in the system.
To fix this, we start the node interval calculation by initializing it to
a value larger than any conceivable calculated value. This way, the link
with the lowest tolerance will always determine the calculated value.

The reason is that the node timer handler sometimes needs to delete a
node which has been disconnected for too long. To do this, it grabs
the lock 'node_list_lock', which may at the same time be held by the
generic node cleanup function, tipc_node_stop(), during module removal.
Since the latter is calling del_timer_sync() inside the same lock, we
have a potential deadlock.
We fix this letting the timer cleanup function use spin_trylock()
instead of just spin_lock(), and when it fails to grab the lock it
just returns so that the timer handler can terminate its execution.
This is safe to do, since tipc_node_stop() anyway is about to
delete both the timer and the node instance.

When a link failure is detected locally, the link is reset, the flag
link->in_session is set to false, and a RESET_MSG with the 'stopping'
bit set is sent to the peer.
The purpose of this bit is to inform the peer that this endpoint just
is going down, and that the peer should handle the reception of this
particular RESET message as a local failure. This forces the peer to
accept another RESET or ACTIVATE message from this endpoint before it
can re-establish the link. This again is necessary to ensure that
link session numbers are properly exchanged before the link comes up
again.
If a failure is detected locally at the same time at the peer endpoint
this will do the same, which is also a correct behavior.
However, when receiving such messages, the endpoints will not
distinguish between 'stopping' RESETs and ordinary ones when it comes
to updating session numbers. Both endpoints will copy the received
session number and set their 'in_session' flags to true at the
reception, while they are still expecting another RESET from the
peer before they can go ahead and re-establish. This is contradictory,
since, after applying the validation check referred to below, the
'in_session' flag will cause rejection of all such messages, and the
link will never come up again.
We now fix this by not only handling received RESET/STOPPING messages
as a local failure, but also by omitting to set a new session number
and the 'in_session' flag in such cases.

Currently, the broadcast retransmission algorithm is using the
'prev_retr' field in struct tipc_link to time stamp the latest broadcast
retransmission occasion. This helps to restrict retransmission of
individual broadcast packets to max once per 10 milliseconds, even
though all other criteria for retransmission are met.
We now move this time stamp to the control block of each individual
packet, and remove other limiting criteria. This simplifies the
retransmission algorithm, and eliminates any risk of logical errors
in selecting which packets can be retransmitted.

In the iov_iter struct, separate the iterator type from the iterator
direction and use accessor functions to access them in most places.
Convert a bunch of places to use switch-statements to access them rather
then chains of bitwise-AND statements. This makes it easier to add further
iterator types. Also, this can be more efficient as to implement a switch
of small contiguous integers, the compiler can use ~50% fewer compare
instructions than it has to use bitwise-and instructions.
Further, cease passing the iterator type into the iterator setup function.
The iterator function can set that itself. Only the direction is required.

This broke tcp_poll for SMC fallback: An AF_SMC socket establishes an
internal TCP socket for the initial handshake with the remote peer.
Whenever the SMC connection can not be established this TCP socket is
used as a fallback. All socket operations on the SMC socket are then
forwarded to the TCP socket. In case of poll, the file->private_data
pointer references the SMC socket because the TCP socket has no file
assigned. This causes tcp_poll to wait on the wrong socket.

We have seen the following race scenario:
1) named_distribute() builds a "bulk" message, containing a PUBLISH
item for a certain publication. This is based on the contents of
the binding tables's 'cluster_scope' list.
2) tipc_named_withdraw() removes the same publication from the list,
bulds a WITHDRAW message and distributes it to all cluster nodes.
3) tipc_named_node_up(), which was calling named_distribute(), sends
out the bulk message built under 1)
4) The WITHDRAW message arrives at the just detected node, finds
no corresponding publication, and is dropped.
5) The PUBLISH item arrives at the same node, is added to its binding
table, and remains there forever.
This arrival disordering was earlier taken care of by the backlog queue,
originally added for a different purpose, which was removed in the
commit referred to below, but we now need a different solution.
In this commit, we replace the rcu lock protecting the 'cluster_scope'
list with a regular RW lock which comprises even the sending of the
bulk message. This both guarantees both the list integrity and the
message sending order. We will later add a commit which cleans up
this code further.
Note that this commit needs recently added commit d3092b2efc ("tipc:
fix unsafe rcu locking when accessing publication list") to apply
cleanly.

nlmsg_parse(), one (from 'net') added rtm_tca_policy instead of NULL
to the 5th argument, and another (from 'net-next') added cb->extack

net/ipv4/ipmr_base.c is a case of a bug fix in 'net' being done to
