Linus Torvalds a26fb01c28 In reaction to the fixes to address CVE-2018-1108, some Linux
distributions that have certain systemd versions in some cases
 combined with patches to libcrypt for FIPS/FEDRAMP compliance, have
 led to boot-time stalls for some hardware.  The reaction by some
 distros and Linux sysadmins has been to install packages that try to
 do complicated things with the CPU and hope that leads to randomness.
 To mitigate this, if RDRAND is available, mix it into entropy provided
 by userspace.  It won't hurt. and it will probably help.

Jarkko Sakkinen 58bac8cc30 tpm: replace TPM_TRANSMIT_RAW with TPM_TRANSMIT_NESTED
As TPM_TRANSMIT_RAW always requires also not to take locks for obvious
reasons (deadlock), this commit renames the flag as TPM_TRANSMIT_NESTED
and prevents taking tpm_mutex when the flag is given to tpm_transmit().

Stefan Berger aaae815363 tpm: Implement tpm_default_chip() to find a TPM chip
Implement tpm_default_chip() to find the first TPM chip and return it to
the caller while increasing the reference count on its device. This
function can be used by other subsystems, such as IMA, to find the system's
default TPM chip and use it for all subsequent TPM operations.

Tomas Winkler 627448e85c tpm: separate cmd_ready/go_idle from runtime_pm
Fix tpm ptt initialization error:
tpm tpm0: A TPM error (378) occurred get tpm pcr allocation.

We cannot use go_idle cmd_ready commands via runtime_pm handles
as with the introduction of localities this is no longer an optional
feature, while runtime pm can be not enabled.
Though cmd_ready/go_idle provides a power saving, it's also a part of
TPM2 protocol and should be called explicitly.
This patch exposes cmd_read/go_idle via tpm class ops and removes
runtime pm support as it is not used by any driver.

When calling from nested context always use both flags:
TPM_TRANSMIT_UNLOCKED and TPM_TRANSMIT_RAW. Both are needed to resolve
tpm spaces and locality request recursive calls to tpm_transmit().
TPM_TRANSMIT_RAW should never be used standalone as it will fail
on double locking. While TPM_TRANSMIT_UNLOCKED standalone should be
called from non-recursive locked contexts.

New wrappers are added tpm_cmd_ready() and tpm_go_idle() to
streamline tpm_try_transmit code.

tpm_crb no longer needs own power saving functions and can drop using
tpm_pm_suspend/resume.

This patch cannot be really separated from the locality fix.

Peter Rosin 79e2472f99 tpm/tpm_i2c_infineon: switch to i2c_lock_bus(..., I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT)
Locking the root adapter for __i2c_transfer will deadlock if the
device sits behind a mux-locked I2C mux. Switch to the finer-grained
i2c_lock_bus with the I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT flag. If the device does not
sit behind a mux-locked mux, the two locking variants are equivalent.

Linus Walleij 1a339b658d tpm_tis_spi: Pass the SPI IRQ down to the driver
An SPI TPM device managed directly on an embedded board using
the SPI bus and some GPIO or similar line as IRQ handler will
pass the IRQn from the TPM device associated with the SPI
device. This is already handled by the SPI core, so make sure
to pass this down to the core as well.

(The TPM core habit of using -1 to signal no IRQ is dubious
(as IRQ 0 is NO_IRQ) but I do not want to mess with that
semantic in this patch.)

In order to make struct tpm_buf the first class object for constructing
TPM commands, migrate tpm2_get_random() to use it. In addition, removed
remaining references to struct tpm2_cmd. All of them use it to acquire
the length of the response, which can be achieved by using
tpm_buf_length().

This can be fixed by assigning anonymous VMAs own vm_ops and not relying
on it being NULL.

If ->mmap() failed to set ->vm_ops, mmap_region() will set it to
dummy_vm_ops.  This way we will have non-NULL ->vm_ops for all VMAs.

Ingo Molnar b34fbaa928 random: remove preempt disabled region
No need to keep preemption disabled across the whole function.

mix_pool_bytes() uses a spin_lock() to protect the pool and there are
other places like write_pool() whhich invoke mix_pool_bytes() without
disabling preemption.
credit_entropy_bits() is invoked from other places like
add_hwgenerator_randomness() without disabling preemption.

Before commit 95b709b6be ("random: drop trickle mode") the function
used __this_cpu_inc_return() which would require disabled preemption.
The preempt_disable() section was added in commit 43d5d3018c37 ("[PATCH]
random driver preempt robustness", history tree).  It was claimed that
the code relied on "vt_ioctl() being called under BKL".

Theodore Ts'o 39a8883a2b random: add a config option to trust the CPU's hwrng
This gives the user building their own kernel (or a Linux
distribution) the option of deciding whether or not to trust the CPU's
hardware random number generator (e.g., RDRAND for x86 CPU's) as being
correctly implemented and not having a back door introduced (perhaps
courtesy of a Nation State's law enforcement or intelligence
agencies).

This will prevent getrandom(2) from blocking, if there is a
willingness to trust the CPU manufacturer.

Tobin C. Harding 753d433b58 random: Return nbytes filled from hw RNG
Currently the function get_random_bytes_arch() has return value 'void'.
If the hw RNG fails we currently fall back to using get_random_bytes().
This defeats the purpose of requesting random material from the hw RNG
in the first place.

There are currently no intree users of get_random_bytes_arch().

Only get random bytes from the hw RNG, make function return the number
of bytes retrieved from the hw RNG.

Theodore Ts'o 81e69df38e random: mix rdrand with entropy sent in from userspace
Fedora has integrated the jitter entropy daemon to work around slow
boot problems, especially on VM's that don't support virtio-rng:

It's understandable why they did this, but the Jitter entropy daemon
works fundamentally on the principle: "the CPU microarchitecture is
**so** complicated and we can't figure it out, so it *must* be
random".  Yes, it uses statistical tests to "prove" it is secure, but
AES_ENCRYPT(NSA_KEY, COUNTER++) will also pass statistical tests with
flying colors.

So if RDRAND is available, mix it into entropy submitted from
userspace.  It can't hurt, and if you believe the NSA has backdoored
RDRAND, then they probably have enough details about the Intel
microarchitecture that they can reverse engineer how the Jitter
entropy daemon affects the microarchitecture, and attack its output
stream.  And if RDRAND is in fact an honest DRNG, it will immeasurably
improve on what the Jitter entropy daemon might produce.

This also provides some protection against someone who is able to read
or set the entropy seed file.

Souptick Joarder 8fb8876b2d char: agp: Change return type to vm_fault_t
Use new return type vm_fault_t for fault handler. For now,
this is just documenting that the function returns a
VM_FAULT value rather than an errno. Once all instances are
converted, vm_fault_t will become a distinct type.

Ref-> commit 1c8f422059 ("mm: change return type to
vm_fault_t") was added in 4.17-rc1 to introduce the new
typedef vm_fault_t. Currently we are making change to all
drivers to return vm_fault_t for page fault handlers. As
part of that char/agp driver is also getting changed to
return vm_fault_t type from fault handler.

Randy Dunlap ac3167257b headers: separate linux/mod_devicetable.h from linux/platform_device.h
At over 4000 #includes, <linux/platform_device.h> is the 9th most
#included header file in the Linux kernel.  It does not need
<linux/mod_devicetable.h>, so drop that header and explicitly add
<linux/mod_devicetable.h> to source files that need it.

   4146 #include <linux/platform_device.h>

After this patch, there are 225 files that use <linux/mod_devicetable.h>,
for a reduction of around 3900 times that <linux/mod_devicetable.h>
does not have to be read & parsed.

    225 #include <linux/mod_devicetable.h>

This patch was build-tested on 20 different arch-es.

It also makes these drivers SubmitChecklist#1 compliant.

Linus Torvalds a11e1d432b Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLL
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely
unexplained.  They also caused a huge performance regression, because
"->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down
to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect
calls.

Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the
performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the
"->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer
to the poll head instead.  That gets rid of one of the new indirections.

But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted
for the regular case.  The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes
was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case
slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all
really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental
redesign.

It needs to change the returned status from -ENODEV to 0. The -ENODEV
was originally used to tell the low level IRQ handler that no user was
running, but not consider the IRQ handling desgin.

And multiple KCS channels share one IRQ handler, it needs to check the
IBF flag before doing force abort. If the IBF is set, after handling,
return 0 to low level IRQ handler to indicate that the IRQ is handled.

Michael Büsch 837bf7cc3b hwrng: core - Always drop the RNG in hwrng_unregister()
enable_best_rng() is used in hwrng_unregister() to switch away from the
currently active RNG, if that is the one currently being removed.
However enable_best_rng() might fail, if the next RNG's init routine
fails. In that case enable_best_rng() will return an error code and
the currently active RNG will remain active.
After unregistering this might lead to crashes due to use-after-free.

Fix this by dropping the currently active RNG, if enable_best_rng()
failed. This will result in no RNG to be active, if the next-best
one failed to initialize.

This problem was introduced by 142a27f0a7

Kees Cook 6396bb2215 treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This
patch replaces cases of:

        kzalloc(a * b, gfp)

with:
        kcalloc(a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

        kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp)

with:

        kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

        kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.

The Coccinelle script used for this was:

Tom Hromatka 873c38a424 char: sparc64: Add privileged ADI driver
SPARC M7 and newer processors utilize ADI to version and
protect memory.  This driver is capable of reading/writing
ADI/MCD versions from privileged user space processes.
Addresses in the adi file are mapped linearly to physical
memory at a ratio of 1:adi_blksz.  Thus, a read (or write)
of offset K in the file operates upon the ADI version at
physical address K * adi_blksz.  The version information
is encoded as one version per byte.  Intended consumers
are makedumpfile and crash.

Tadeusz Struk 3ab2011ea3 tpm: fix race condition in tpm_common_write()
There is a race condition in tpm_common_write function allowing
two threads on the same /dev/tpm<N>, or two different applications
on the same /dev/tpmrm<N> to overwrite each other commands/responses.
Fixed this by taking the priv->buffer_mutex early in the function.

Also converted the priv->data_pending from atomic to a regular size_t
type. There is no need for it to be atomic since it is only touched
under the protection of the priv->buffer_mutex.

Christoph Hellwig 89b310a2b2 random: convert to ->poll_mask
The big change is that random_read_wait and random_write_wait are merged
into a single waitqueue that uses keyed wakeups.  Because wait_event_*
doesn't know about that this will lead to occassional spurious wakeups
in _random_read and add_hwgenerator_randomness, but wait_event_* is
designed to handle these and were are not in a a hot path there.

Original kcs_bmc_npcm7xx.c was missing enabling to send interrupt to the
host on writes to output buffer.
This patch fixes it by setting the bits that enables the generation of

Nayna Jain 424eaf910c tpm: reduce polling time to usecs for even finer granularity
The TPM burstcount and status commands are supposed to return very
quickly [2][3]. This patch further reduces the TPM poll sleep time to usecs
in get_burstcount() and wait_for_tpm_stat() by calling usleep_range()
directly.

After this change, performance on a system[1] with a TPM 1.2 with an 8 byte
burstcount for 1000 extends improved from ~10.7 sec to ~7 sec.

[1] All tests are performed on an x86 based, locked down, single purpose
closed system. It has Infineon TPM 1.2 using LPC Bus.

[2] From the TCG Specification "TCG PC Client Specific TPM Interface
Specification (TIS), Family 1.2":

"NOTE : It takes roughly 330 ns per byte transfer on LPC. 256 bytes would
take 84 us, which is a long time to stall the CPU. Chipsets may not be

Nayna Jain 59f5a6b07f tpm: reduce poll sleep time in tpm_transmit()
tpm_try_transmit currently checks TPM status every 5 msecs between
send and recv. It does so in a loop for the maximum timeout as defined
in the TPM Interface Specification. However, the TPM may return before
5 msecs. Thus the polling interval for each iteration can be reduced,
which improves overall performance. This patch changes the polling sleep
time from 5 msecs to 1 msec.

Additionally, this patch renames TPM_POLL_SLEEP to TPM_TIMEOUT_POLL and
moves it to tpm.h as an enum value.

After this change, performance on a system[1] with a TPM 1.2 with an 8 byte
burstcount for 1000 extends improved from ~14 sec to ~10.7 sec.

[1] All tests are performed on an x86 based, locked down, single purpose
closed system. It has Infineon TPM 1.2 using LPC Bus.

Nayna Jain 9298075697 tpm: move the delay_msec increment after sleep in tpm_transmit()
Commit e2fb992d82 ("tpm: add retry logic") introduced a new loop to
handle the TPM2_RC_RETRY error. The loop retries the command after
sleeping for the specified time, which is incremented exponentially in
every iteration.

Unfortunately, the loop doubles the time before sleeping, causing the
initial sleep to be doubled. This patch fixes the initial sleep time.

Console driver is out of spec. The spec says:
	A driver MUST NOT decrement the available idx on a live
	virtqueue (ie. there is no way to “unexpose” buffers).
and it does exactly that by trying to detach unused buffers
without doing a device reset first.

Defer detaching the buffers until device unplug.

Of course this means we might get an interrupt for
a vq without an attached port now. Handle that by
discarding the consumed buffer.

Souptick Joarder 3eb87d4e5a char: mspec: change return type to vm_fault_t
Use new return type vm_fault_t for the fault handler
in struct vm_operations_struct.  For now, this is just
documenting that the function returns a VM_FAULT value
rather than an errno.  Once all instances are converted,
vm_fault_t will become a distinct type.

This driver failed to handle any error returned by
vm_insert_pfn. Use the new vmf_insert_pfn function
to return the correct value.

Corey Minyard 6aa2dd0092 ipmi_devintf: Small lock rework
The mutex didn't really serve any useful purpose, from what I can
tell, and it would just get in the way.  So remove it.

Removing that required a mutex around the default value setting and
getting, so just use the receive mutex for that.

Also pull the fasync stuff outside of the lock for adding the data
to the queue, since it didn't need to be there.

Users of the IPMI code had their own panic handlers, but the
order was not necessarily right, the base IPMI code would
need to handle the panic first, and the user had no way to
know if the IPMI interface could run at panic time.

Add a panic handler to the user interface, it is called if
non-NULL and the interface the user is on is capable of panic
handling.  It also cleans up the panic log handling a bit to
reuse the existing interface loop in the main panic handler.

Simplify things by creating one set of message handling data for
setting the watchdog and doing a heartbeat.  Rework the locking
to avoid some (probably not very important) races and to avoid
a fairly unlikely infinite recursion.

Get rid of ipmi_ignore_heartbeat, it wasn't used, and use
watchdog_user to tell if we have a working IPMI device below
us.

Corey Minyard ce7fa1c38d ipmi: Add a way to tune some timeouts
By default the retry timeout is 1 second.  Allow that to be modified,
primarily for slow operations, like firmware writes.

Also, the timeout was driven by a 1 second timer, so 1 second really
meant between 0 and 1 second.  Set the default to 2 seconds so it
means between 1 and 2 seconds.

Also allow the time the interface automatically stays in mainenance
mode to be modified from it's default 30 seconds.

Also consolidate some of the timeout and retry setup.

Theodore Ts'o dc12baacb9 random: use a different mixing algorithm for add_device_randomness()
add_device_randomness() use of crng_fast_load() was highly
problematic.  Some callers of add_device_randomness() can pass in a
large amount of static information.  This would immediately promote
the crng_init state from 0 to 1, without really doing much to
initialize the primary_crng's internal state with something even
vaguely unpredictable.

Since we don't have the speed constraints of add_interrupt_randomness(),
we can do a better job mixing in the what unpredictability a device
driver or architecture maintainer might see fit to give us, and do it
in a way which does not bump the crng_init_cnt variable.

Also, since add_device_randomness() doesn't bump any entropy
accounting in crng_init state 0, mix the device randomness into the
input_pool entropy pool as well.  This is related to CVE-2018-1108.

The crng_init variable has three states:

0: The CRNG is not initialized at all
1: The CRNG has a small amount of entropy, hopefully good enough for
   early-boot, non-cryptographical use cases
2: The CRNG is fully initialized and we are sure it is safe for
   cryptographic use cases.

The crng_ready() function should only return true once we are in the
last state.  This addresses CVE-2018-1108.

Kees Cook 3c8ba0d61d kernel.h: Retain constant expression output for max()/min()
In the effort to remove all VLAs from the kernel[1], it is desirable to
build with -Wvla.  However, this warning is overly pessimistic, in that
it is only happy with stack array sizes that are declared as constant
expressions, and not constant values.  One case of this is the
evaluation of the max() macro which, due to its construction, ends up
converting constant expression arguments into a constant value result.

All attempts to rewrite this macro with __builtin_constant_p() failed
with older compilers (e.g.  gcc 4.4)[2].  However, Martin Uecker,
constructed[3] a mind-shattering solution that works everywhere.

This patch updates the min()/max() macros to evaluate to a constant
expression when called on constant expression arguments.  This removes
several false-positive stack VLA warnings from an x86 allmodconfig build
when -Wvla is added:

Linus Torvalds cc5ada7ca3 Mostly small changes, as usual.
This does add an IPMI BMC server-side driver, to allow a Linux
 system to act as an IPMI controller.  That's the biggest change,
 but it is just a new driver that is fairly narrow in use.
 
 The other largish change is removing ACPI SPMI probe support,

Helge Deller c6185e285c ipmi/parisc: Add IPMI chassis poweroff for certain HP PA-RISC and IA-64 servers
This patch allows HP PA-RISC servers like rp3410/rp3440 and the HP C8000
workstation with an IPMI controller that predate IPMI 1.5 to use the standard
poweroff or powercycle commands.

These systems firmware don't set the chassis capability bit in the Get
Device ID, but they do implement the standard poweroff and powercycle
commands.

James Bottomley 2be8ffed09 tpm: fix intermittent failure with self tests
My Nuvoton 6xx in a Dell XPS-13 has been intermittently failing to work
(necessitating a reboot). The problem seems to be that the TPM gets into a
state where the partial self-test doesn't return TPM_RC_SUCCESS (meaning
all tests have run to completion), but instead returns TPM_RC_TESTING
(meaning some tests are still running in the background).  There are
various theories that resending the self-test command actually causes the
tests to restart and thus triggers more TPM_RC_TESTING returns until the
timeout is exceeded.

There are several issues here: firstly being we shouldn't slow down the
boot sequence waiting for the self test to complete once the TPM
backgrounds them.  It will actually make available all functions that have
passed and if it gets a failure return TPM_RC_FAILURE to every subsequent
command.  So the fix is to kick off self tests once and if they return
TPM_RC_TESTING log that as a backgrounded self test and continue on.  In
order to prevent other tpm users from seeing any TPM_RC_TESTING returns
(which it might if they send a command that needs a TPM subsystem which is
still under test), we loop in tpm_transmit_cmd until either a timeout or we
don't get a TPM_RC_TESTING return.

Finally, there have been observations of strange returns from a partial
test. One Nuvoton is occasionally returning TPM_RC_COMMAND_CODE, so treat
any unexpected return from a partial self test as an indication we need to
run a full self test.

James Bottomley e2fb992d82 tpm: add retry logic
TPM2 can return TPM2_RC_RETRY to any command and when it does we get
unexpected failures inside the kernel that surprise users (this is
mostly observed in the trusted key handling code).  The UEFI 2.6 spec
has advice on how to handle this:

    The firmware SHALL not return TPM2_RC_RETRY prior to the completion
    of the call to ExitBootServices().

    Implementer’s Note: the implementation of this function should check
    the return value in the TPM response and, if it is TPM2_RC_RETRY,
    resend the command. The implementation may abort if a sufficient
    number of retries has been done.

So we follow that advice in our tpm_transmit() code using
TPM2_DURATION_SHORT as the initial wait duration and
TPM2_DURATION_LONG as the maximum wait time.  This should fix all the
in-kernel use cases and also means that user space TSS implementations
don't have to have their own retry handling.

Chris Chiu 0803d7befa tpm: self test failure should not cause suspend to fail
The Acer Acer Veriton X4110G has a TPM device detected as:
  tpm_tis 00:0b: 1.2 TPM (device-id 0xFE, rev-id 71)

After the first S3 suspend, the following error appears during resume:
  tpm tpm0: A TPM error(38) occurred continue selftest

Any following S3 suspend attempts will now fail with this error:
  tpm tpm0: Error (38) sending savestate before suspend
  PM: Device 00:0b failed to suspend: error 38

Error 38 is TPM_ERR_INVALID_POSTINIT which means the TPM is
not in the correct state. This indicates that the platform BIOS
is not sending the usual TPM_Startup command during S3 resume.
>From this point onwards, all TPM commands will fail.

The same issue was previously reported on Foxconn 6150BK8MC and
Sony Vaio TX3.

The platform behaviour seems broken here, but we should not break
suspend/resume because of this.

When the unexpected TPM state is encountered, set a flag to skip the
affected TPM_SaveState command on later suspends.

Tomas Winkler 076d356460 tpm2: add longer timeouts for creation commands.
TPM2_CC_Create(0x153) and TPM2_CC_CreatePrimary (0x131) involve generation
of crypto keys which can be a computationally intensive task. The timeout
is set to 3min. Rather than increasing default timeout a new constant is
added, to not stall for too long on regular commands failures.

Tomas Winkler 888d867df4 tpm: cmd_ready command can be issued only after granting locality
The correct sequence is to first request locality and only after
that perform cmd_ready handshake, otherwise the hardware will drop
the subsequent message as from the device point of view the cmd_ready
handshake wasn't performed. Symmetrically locality has to be relinquished
only after going idle handshake has completed, this requires that
go_idle has to poll for the completion and as well locality
relinquish has to poll for completion so it is not overridden
in back to back commands flow.

Two wrapper functions are added (request_locality relinquish_locality)
to simplify the error handling.

The issue is only visible on devices that support multiple localities.
