This adds a new stress test driver for kmod: the kernel module loader.
The new stress test driver, test_kmod, is only enabled as a module right
now. It should be possible to load this as built-in and load tests
early (refer to the force_init_test module parameter), however since a
lot of test can get a system out of memory fast we leave this disabled
for now.
Using a system with 1024 MiB of RAM can *easily* get your kernel OOM
fast with this test driver.
The test_kmod driver exposes API knobs for us to fine tune simple
request_module() and get_fs_type() calls. Since these API calls only
allow each one parameter a test driver for these is rather simple.
Other factors that can help out test driver though are the number of
calls we issue and knowing current limitations of each. This exposes
configuration as much as possible through userspace to be able to build
tests directly from userspace.
Since it allows multiple misc devices its will eventually (once we add a
knob to let us create new devices at will) also be possible to perform
more tests in parallel, provided you have enough memory.
We only enable tests we know work as of right now.

Usage: tools/testing/selftests/kmod/kmod.sh [ -t <4-number-digit> ]
Valid tests: 0001-0009

0002 - Simple test - 1 thread for modules/filesystems that do not exist
0003 - Simple test - 1 thread for get_fs_type() only
0004 - Simple test - 2 threads for get_fs_type() only
0005 - multithreaded tests with default setup - request_module() only
0006 - multithreaded tests with default setup - get_fs_type() only
0007 - multithreaded tests with default setup test request_module() and get_fs_type()
0008 - multithreaded - push kmod_concurrent over max_modprobes for request_module()
0009 - multithreaded - push kmod_concurrent over max_modprobes for get_fs_type()
The following test cases currently fail, as such they are not currently
enabled by default:
# tools/testing/selftests/kmod/kmod.sh -t 0008
# tools/testing/selftests/kmod/kmod.sh -t 0009
To be sure to run them as intended please unload both of the modules:
o test_module
o xfs
And ensure they are not loaded on your system prior to testing them. If
you use these paritions for your rootfs you can change the default test
driver used for get_fs_type() by exporting it into your environment. For
example of other test defaults you can override refer to kmod.sh
allow_user_defaults().
Behind the scenes this is how we fine tune at a test case prior to
hitting a trigger to run it:
cat /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/config
echo -n "2" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/config_test_case
echo -n "ext4" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/config_test_fs
echo -n "80" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/config_num_threads
cat /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/config
echo -n "1" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/config_num_threads
Finally to trigger:
echo -n "1" > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/test_kmod0/trigger_config
The kmod.sh script uses the above constructs to build different test cases.
A bit of interpretation of the current failures follows, first two
premises:
a) When request_module() is used userspace figures out an optimized
version of module order for us. Once it finds the modules it needs, as
per depmod symbol dep map, it will finit_module() the respective
modules which are needed for the original request_module() request.
b) We have an optimization in place whereby if a kernel uses
request_module() on a module already loaded we never bother userspace
as the module already is loaded. This is all handled by kernel/kmod.c.
A few things to consider to help identify root causes of issues:
0) kmod 19 has a broken heuristic for modules being assumed to be
built-in to your kernel and will return 0 even though request_module()
failed. Upgrade to a newer version of kmod.
1) A get_fs_type() call for "xfs" will request_module() for "fs-xfs",
not for "xfs". The optimization in kernel described in b) fails to
catch if we have a lot of consecutive get_fs_type() calls. The reason
is the optimization in place does not look for aliases. This means two
consecutive get_fs_type() calls will bump kmod_concurrent, whereas
request_module() will not.
This one explanation why test case 0009 fails at least once for
get_fs_type().
2) If a module fails to load --- for whatever reason (kmod_concurrent
limit reached, file not yet present due to rootfs switch, out of
memory) we have a period of time during which module request for the
same name either with request_module() or get_fs_type() will *also*
fail to load even if the file for the module is ready.
This explains why *multiple* NULLs are possible on test 0009.
3) finit_module() consumes quite a bit of memory.
4) Filesystems typically also have more dependent modules than other
modules, its important to note though that even though a get_fs_type()
call does not incur additional kmod_concurrent bumps, since userspace
loads dependencies it finds it needs via finit_module_fd(), it *will*
take much more memory to load a module with a lot of dependencies.
Because of 3) and 4) we will easily run into out of memory failures with
certain tests. For instance test 0006 fails on qemu with 1024 MiB of RAM.
It panics a box after reaping all userspace processes and still not
having enough memory to reap.

This adds a generic script to let us more easily add more tests cases.
Since we really have only two types of tests cases just fold them into
the one file. Each test unit is now identified into its separate
function:
# ./sysctl.sh -l
Test ID list:
TEST_ID x NUM_TEST
TEST_ID: Test ID
NUM_TESTS: Number of recommended times to run the test
0001 x 1 - tests proc_dointvec_minmax()
0002 x 1 - tests proc_dostring()
For now we start off with what we had before, and run only each test
once. We can now watch a test case until it fails:
./sysctl.sh -w 0002
We can also run a test case x number of times, say we want to run a test
case 100 times:
./sysctl.sh -c 0001 100
To run a test case only once, for example:
./sysctl.sh -s 0002
The default settings are specified at the top of sysctl.sh.

The existing tools/testing/selftests/sysctl/ tests include two test
cases, but these use existing production kernel sysctl interfaces. We
want to expand test coverage but we can't just be looking for random
safe production values to poke at, that's just insane!
Instead just dedicate a test driver for debugging purposes and port the
existing scripts to use it. This will make it easier for further tests
to be added.
Subsequent patches will extend our test coverage for sysctl.
The stress test driver uses a new license (GPL on Linux, copyleft-next
outside of Linux). Linus was fine with this [0] and later due to Ted's
and Alans's request ironed out an "or" language clause to use [1] which
is already present upstream.

net has the same issue.
Add support for ntohl and htonl in tools/testing/selftests/bpf/bpf_endian.h.
Also move bpf_helpers.h from samples/bpf to selftests/bpf and change
compiler include logic so that programs in samples/bpf can access the headers
in selftests/bpf, but not the other way around.

KPROBES_ON_FTRACE is only available on powerpc64le. Update comment to
clarify this.
Also, we should use an offset of 8 to ensure that the probe does not
fall on ftrace location. The current offset of 4 will fall before the
function local entry point and won't fire, while an offset of 12 or 16
will fall on ftrace location. Offset 8 is currently guaranteed to not be
the ftrace location.

pull request also includes new 'struct dax_operations' enabling to

Summary:
- Introduce the _flushcache() family of memory copy helpers and use

Pull security layer updates from James Morris:
- a major update for AppArmor. From JJ:
* several bug fixes and cleanups
* the patch to add symlink support to securityfs that was floated
on the list earlier and the apparmorfs changes that make use of
securityfs symlinks
* it introduces the domain labeling base code that Ubuntu has been
carrying for several years, with several cleanups applied. And it
converts the current mediation over to using the domain labeling
base, which brings domain stacking support with it. This finally
will bring the base upstream code in line with Ubuntu and provide
a base to upstream the new feature work that Ubuntu carries.
* This does _not_ contain any of the newer apparmor mediation
features/controls (mount, signals, network, keys, ...) that
Ubuntu is currently carrying, all of which will be RFC'd on top
of this.
- Notable also is the Infiniband work in SELinux, and the new file:map
permission. From Paul:
"While we're down to 21 patches for v4.13 (it was 31 for v4.12),
the diffstat jumps up tremendously with over 2k of line changes.
Almost all of these changes are the SELinux/IB work done by
Daniel Jurgens; some other noteworthy changes include a NFS v4.2
labeling fix, a new file:map permission, and reporting of policy
capabilities on policy load"
There's also now genfscon labeling support for tracefs, which was
lost in v4.1 with the separation from debugfs.
- Smack incorporates a safer socket check in file_receive, and adds a
cap_capable call in privilege check.
- TPM as usual has a bunch of fixes and enhancements.
- Multiple calls to security_add_hooks() can now be made for the same
LSM, to allow LSMs to have hook declarations across multiple files.
- IMA now supports different "ima_appraise=" modes (eg. log, fix) from
the boot command line.

test_execve does rather odd mount manipulations to safely create
temporary setuid and setgid executables that aren't visible to the
rest of the system. Those executables end up in the test's cwd, but
that cwd is MNT_DETACHed.
The core namespace code considers MNT_DETACHed trees to belong to no
mount namespace at all and, in general, MNT_DETACHed trees are only
barely function. This interacted with commit 380cf5ba6b ("fs:
Treat foreign mounts as nosuid") to cause all MNT_DETACHed trees to
act as though they're nosuid, breaking the test.
Fix it by just not detaching the tree. It's still in a private
mount namespace and is therefore still invisible to the rest of the
system (except via /proc, and the same nosuid logic will protect all
other programs on the system from believing in test_execve's setuid
bits).
While we're at it, fix some blatant whitespace problems.

Leaking kernel addresses on unpriviledged is generally disallowed,
for example, verifier rejects the following:
0: (b7) r0 = 0
1: (18) r2 = 0xffff897e82304400
3: (7b) *(u64 *)(r1 +48) = r2
R2 leaks addr into ctx
Doing pointer arithmetic on them is also forbidden, so that they
don't turn into unknown value and then get leaked out. However,
there's xadd as a special case, where we don't check the src reg
for being a pointer register, e.g. the following will pass:
0: (b7) r0 = 0
1: (7b) *(u64 *)(r1 +48) = r0
2: (18) r2 = 0xffff897e82304400 ; map
4: (db) lock *(u64 *)(r1 +48) += r2
5: (95) exit
We could store the pointer into skb->cb, loose the type context,
and then read it out from there again to leak it eventually out
of a map value. Or more easily in a different variant, too:
0: (bf) r6 = r1
1: (7a) *(u64 *)(r10 -8) = 0
2: (bf) r2 = r10
3: (07) r2 += -8
4: (18) r1 = 0x0
6: (85) call bpf_map_lookup_elem#1
7: (15) if r0 == 0x0 goto pc+3
R0=map_value(ks=8,vs=8,id=0),min_value=0,max_value=0 R6=ctx R10=fp
8: (b7) r3 = 0
9: (7b) *(u64 *)(r0 +0) = r3
10: (db) lock *(u64 *)(r0 +0) += r6
11: (b7) r0 = 0
12: (95) exit
from 7 to 11: R0=inv,min_value=0,max_value=0 R6=ctx R10=fp
11: (b7) r0 = 0
12: (95) exit
Prevent this by checking xadd src reg for pointer types. Also
add a couple of test cases related to this.

Add the beginnings of a testsuite for tc functionality in the kernel.
These are a series of unit tests that use the tc executable and verify
the success of those commands by checking both the exit codes and the
output from tc's 'show' operation.
To run the tests:
# cd tools/testing/selftests/tc-testing
# sudo ./tdc.py
You can specify the tc executable to use with the -p argument on the command
line or editing the 'TC' variable in tdc_config.py. Refer to the README for
full details on how to run.
The initial complement of test cases are limited mostly to tc actions. Test
cases are most welcome; see the creating-testcases subdirectory for help
in creating them.

Add test cases in test_verifier and test_progs.

Currently, verifier will reject a program if it contains an
narrower load from the bpf context structure. For example,
__u8 h = __sk_buff->hash, or
__u16 p = __sk_buff->protocol
__u32 sample_period = bpf_perf_event_data->sample_period
which are narrower loads of 4-byte or 8-byte field.
This patch solves the issue by:
. Introduce a new parameter ctx_field_size to carry the
field size of narrower load from prog type
specific *__is_valid_access validator back to verifier.
. The non-zero ctx_field_size for a memory access indicates
(1). underlying prog type specific convert_ctx_accesses
supporting non-whole-field access
(2). the current insn is a narrower or whole field access.
. In verifier, for such loads where load memory size is
less than ctx_field_size, verifier transforms it
to a full field load followed by proper masking.
. Currently, __sk_buff and bpf_perf_event_data->sample_period
are supporting narrowing loads.
. Narrower stores are still not allowed as typical ctx stores
are just normal stores.
Because of this change, some tests in verifier will fail and
these tests are removed. As a bonus, rename some out of bound
__sk_buff->cb access to proper field name and remove two
redundant "skb cb oob" tests.

The selftests depend on using the shell exit code as a mean of
detecting the success or failure of test-binary executed. The
appropiate output "[PASS]" or "[FAIL]" in generated by
tools/testing/selftests/lib.mk.
Notice that the exit code is masked with 255. Thus, be careful if
using the number of errors as the exit code, as 256 errors would be
seen as a success.
There are two standard defined exit(3) codes:
/usr/include/stdlib.h
#define EXIT_FAILURE 1 /* Failing exit status. */
#define EXIT_SUCCESS 0 /* Successful exit status. */
Fix test_verifier.c to not use the negative value of variable
"results", but instead return EXIT_FAILURE.

they were always indicating success regardless of results.

useful for torture testing, and there are the rcutree.gp_cleanup_delay,

that rcutorture can use instead. The effect of these parameters is to
artificially slow down grace period initialization and cleanup in order

options and adding the corresponding kernel parameters to rcutorture's

Tracking down the issue actually revealed that endianness selection
in bpf_endian.h is broken when compiled with clang with bpf target.
test_pkt_access.c, test_l4lb.c is compiled with __BYTE_ORDER as
__BIG_ENDIAN, test_xdp.c as __LITTLE_ENDIAN! test_l4lb noticeably
fails, because the test accounts bytes via bpf_ntohs(ip6h->payload_len)
and bpf_ntohs(iph->tot_len), and compares them against a defined
value and given a wrong endianness, the test outcome is different,
of course.
Turns out that there are actually two bugs: i) when we do __BYTE_ORDER
comparison with __LITTLE_ENDIAN/__BIG_ENDIAN, then depending on the
include order we see different outcomes. Reason is that __BYTE_ORDER
is undefined due to missing endian.h include. Before we include the
asm/byteorder.h (e.g. through linux/in.h), then __BYTE_ORDER equals
__LITTLE_ENDIAN since both are undefined, after the include which
correctly pulls in linux/byteorder/little_endian.h, __LITTLE_ENDIAN
is defined, but given __BYTE_ORDER is still undefined, we match on
__BYTE_ORDER equals to __BIG_ENDIAN since __BIG_ENDIAN is also
undefined at that point, sigh. ii) But even that would be wrong,
since when compiling the test cases with clang, one can select between
bpfeb and bpfel targets for cross compilation. Hence, we can also not
rely on what the system's endian.h provides, but we need to look at
the compiler's defined endianness. The compiler defines __BYTE_ORDER__,
and we can match __ORDER_LITTLE_ENDIAN__ and __ORDER_BIG_ENDIAN__,
which also reflects targets bpf (native), bpfel, bpfeb correctly,
thus really only rely on that. After patch:
# ./test_progs

only the branch name, the output of "git status", and the SHA-1 of

A robust combination of paranoia and cowardice has resulted in retaining
Classic SRCU (CONFIG_CLASSIC_SRCU) as a backup for the shiny new Tiny

Kconfig "select" clauses can defeat Kconfig-fragment file attempts to
clear a given Kconfig variable, and dependencies can defeat attempts to
set a given Kconfig variable. Because "select" clauses and dependencies

One was simply a memory leak where not all was being freed that should
have been in releasing a file pointer on set_graph_function.
Then Thomas found that the ftrace trampolines were marked for read/write
as well as execute. To shrink the possible attack surface, he added
calls to set them to ro. Which also uncovered some other issues with
freeing module allocated memory that had its permissions changed.
Kprobes had a similar issue which is fixed and a selftest was added
to trigger that issue again.

kprobes/x86: Fix to set RWX bits correctly before releasing trampoline
ftrace: Fix memory leak in ftrace_graph_release()
Add a testcase to test kprobes via ftrace interface
with many concurrent kprobe events.
This tries to add many kprobe events (up to 256) on
kernel functions. To avoid making ftrace-based
kprobes (kprobes on fentry), it skips first N bytes
(on x86 N=5, on ppc or arm N=4) of function entry.
After that, it enables all those events, disable it,
and remove it.
Since the unoptimization buffer reclaiming will
be delayed, after removing events, it will wait
enough time.

This patch adds various verifier test cases:
1) A test case for the pruning issue when tracking alignment
is used.
2) Various PTR_TO_MAP_VALUE_OR_NULL tests to make sure pointer
arithmetic turns such register into UNKNOWN_VALUE type.
3) Test cases for the special treatment of LD_ABS/LD_IND to
make sure verifier doesn't break calling convention here.
Latter is needed, since f.e. arm64 JIT uses r1 - r5 for
storing temporary data, so they really must be marked as

Check DSCR TM context switch: tm-resched-dscr: tm-resched-dscr.c:76: test_body: Assertion `rv' failed.
!! child died by signal 6
When it fails we see that the compiler doesn't initialise rv to 1 before
entering the inline asm block. Although that's counter intuitive, it
is allowed because we tell the compiler that the inline asm will write
to rv (using "=r"), meaning the original value is irrelevant.
Marking it as a read/write parameter would presumably work, but it seems
simpler to fix it by setting the initial value of rv in the inline asm.

Commit 0a5539f661 ("bpf: Provide a linux/types.h override

/usr/include/linux/swab.h:160:8: error: unknown type name '__always_inline'
static __always_inline __u16 __swab16p(const __u16 *p)

The type __aligned_u64 is defined in linux:include/uapi/linux/types.h.
The fix is to copy missing type definition into
tools/testing/selftests/bpf/include/uapi/linux/types.h.

* Region media error reporting: A libnvdimm region device is the parent
to one or more namespaces. To date, media errors have been reported via
the "badblocks" attribute attached to pmem block devices for namespaces
in "raw" or "memory" mode. Given that namespaces can be in "device-dax"
or "btt-sector" mode this new interface reports media errors
generically, i.e. independent of namespace modes or state. This
subsequently allows userspace tooling to craft "ACPI 6.1 Section
9.20.7.6 Function Index 4 - Clear Uncorrectable Error" requests and
submit them via the ioctl path for NVDIMM root bus devices.
* Introduce 'struct dax_device' and 'struct dax_operations': Prompted by
a request from Linus and feedback from Christoph this allows for dax
capable drivers to publish their own custom dax operations. This fixes
the broken assumption that all dax operations are related to a
persistent memory device, and makes it easier for other architectures
and platforms to add customized persistent memory support.
* 'libnvdimm' core updates: A new "deep_flush" sysfs attribute is
available for storage appliance applications to manually trigger memory
controllers to drain write-pending buffers that would otherwise be
flushed automatically by the platform ADR (asynchronous-DRAM-refresh)
mechanism at a power loss event. Support for "locked" DIMMs is included
to prevent namespaces from surfacing when the namespace label data area
is locked. Finally, fixes for various reported deadlocks and crashes,
also tagged for -stable.
* ACPI / nfit driver updates: General updates of the nfit driver to add
DSM command overrides, ACPI 6.1 health state flags support, DSM payload
debug available by default, and various fixes.

Merge tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.12' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm
Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams:
"The bulk of this has been in multiple -next releases. There were a few
late breaking fixes and small features that got added in the last
couple days, but the whole set has received a build success
notification from the kbuild robot.
Change summary:
- Region media error reporting: A libnvdimm region device is the
parent to one or more namespaces. To date, media errors have been
reported via the "badblocks" attribute attached to pmem block
devices for namespaces in "raw" or "memory" mode. Given that
namespaces can be in "device-dax" or "btt-sector" mode this new
interface reports media errors generically, i.e. independent of
namespace modes or state.
This subsequently allows userspace tooling to craft "ACPI 6.1
Section 9.20.7.6 Function Index 4 - Clear Uncorrectable Error"
requests and submit them via the ioctl path for NVDIMM root bus
devices.
- Introduce 'struct dax_device' and 'struct dax_operations': Prompted
by a request from Linus and feedback from Christoph this allows for
dax capable drivers to publish their own custom dax operations.
This fixes the broken assumption that all dax operations are
related to a persistent memory device, and makes it easier for
other architectures and platforms to add customized persistent
memory support.
- 'libnvdimm' core updates: A new "deep_flush" sysfs attribute is
available for storage appliance applications to manually trigger
memory controllers to drain write-pending buffers that would
otherwise be flushed automatically by the platform ADR
(asynchronous-DRAM-refresh) mechanism at a power loss event.
Support for "locked" DIMMs is included to prevent namespaces from
surfacing when the namespace label data area is locked. Finally,
fixes for various reported deadlocks and crashes, also tagged for
-stable.
- ACPI / nfit driver updates: General updates of the nfit driver to
add DSM command overrides, ACPI 6.1 health state flags support, DSM
payload debug available by default, and various fixes.

- Larger virtual address space on 64-bit server CPUs. By default we use a 128TB
virtual address space, but a process can request access to the full 512TB by
passing a hint to mmap().
- Support for the new Power9 "XIVE" interrupt controller.
- TLB flushing optimisations for the radix MMU on Power9.
- Support for CAPI cards on Power9, using the "Coherent Accelerator Interface
Architecture 2.0".
- The ability to configure the mmap randomisation limits at build and runtime.
- Several small fixes and cleanups to the kprobes code, as well as support for
KPROBES_ON_FTRACE.
- Major improvements to handling of system reset interrupts, correctly treating
them as NMIs, giving them a dedicated stack and using a new hypervisor call
to trigger them, all of which should aid debugging and robustness.
Many fixes and other minor enhancements.

o Pretty much a full rewrite of the processing of function plugins.
i.e. echo do_IRQ:stacktrace > set_ftrace_filter
o The rewrite was needed to add plugins to be unique to tracing instances.

The old way was written very hacky. This removes a lot of those hacks.

With clang/llvm 4.0+, the test case is able to generate
the following pattern:
....
440: (b7) r1 = 15
441: (05) goto pc+73
515: (79) r6 = *(u64 *)(r10 -152)
516: (bf) r7 = r10
517: (07) r7 += -112
518: (bf) r2 = r7
519: (0f) r2 += r1
520: (71) r1 = *(u8 *)(r8 +0)
521: (73) *(u8 *)(r2 +45) = r1
....
commit 332270fdc8 ("bpf: enhance verifier to understand stack
pointer arithmetic") improved verifier to handle such a pattern.
This patch adds a C test case to actually generate such a pattern.

To overcome bugs as described and fixed in 89087c456f ("bpf: Fix
values type used in test_maps"), provide a generic BPF_DECLARE_PERCPU()
and bpf_percpu() accessor macro for all percpu map values used in
tests.
Declaring variables works as follows (also works for structs):
BPF_DECLARE_PERCPU(uint32_t, my_value);
They can then be accessed normally as uint32_t type through:
bpf_percpu(my_value, <cpu_nr>)
For example:
bpf_percpu(my_value, 0)++;
Implicitly, we make sure that the passed type is allocated and aligned
by gcc at least on a 8-byte boundary, so that it works together with
the map lookup/update syscall for percpu maps. We use it as a usage
example in test_maps, so that others are free to adapt this into their
code when necessary.

An tracing instance has several of the same capabilities as the top level
instance, but may be implemented slightly different. Instead of just writing
tests that duplicat the same test cases of the top level instance, allow a
test to be written for both the top level as well as for an instance.
If a test case can be run in both the top level as well as in an tracing
instance directory, then it should add a tag "# flags: instance" in the
header of the test file. Then after all tests have run, any test that has an
instance flag set, will run again within a tracing instance.

Maps of per-cpu type have their value element size adjusted to 8 if it
is specified smaller during various map operations.
This makes test_maps as a 32-bit binary fail, in fact the kernel
writes past the end of the value's array on the user's stack.
To be quite honest, I think the kernel should reject creation of a
per-cpu map that doesn't have a value size of at least 8 if that's
what the kernel is going to silently adjust to later.
If the user passed something smaller, it is a sizeof() calcualtion
based upon the type they will actually use (just like in this testcase
code) in later calls to the map operations.

Add napi_id access to __sk_buff for socket filter program types, tc
program types and other bpf_convert_ctx_access() users. Having access
to skb->napi_id is useful for per RX queue listener siloing, f.e.
in combination with SO_ATTACH_REUSEPORT_EBPF and when busy polling is
used, meaning SO_REUSEPORT enabled listeners can then select the
corresponding socket at SYN time already [1]. The skb is marked via
skb_mark_napi_id() early in the receive path (e.g., napi_gro_receive()).
Currently, sockets can only use SO_INCOMING_NAPI_ID from 6d4339028b
("net: Introduce SO_INCOMING_NAPI_ID") as a socket option to look up
the NAPI ID associated with the queue for steering, which requires a
prior sk_mark_napi_id() after the socket was looked up.
Semantics for the __sk_buff napi_id access are similar, meaning if
skb->napi_id is < MIN_NAPI_ID (e.g. outgoing packets using sender_cpu),
then an invalid napi_id of 0 is returned to the program, otherwise a
valid non-zero napi_id.

'psock_fanout' has been failing since commit 4d7b9dc1f3 ("tools:
psock_lib: harden socket filter used by psock tests"). That commit
changed the CBPF filter to examine the full ethernet frame, and was
tested on 'psock_tpacket' which uses SOCK_RAW. But 'psock_fanout' was
also using this same CBPF in two places, for filtering and fanout, on a
SOCK_DGRAM socket.
Change 'psock_fanout' to use SOCK_RAW so that the CBPF program used with
SO_ATTACH_FILTER can examine the entire frame. Create a new CBPF
program for use with PACKET_FANOUT_DATA which ignores the header, as it
cannot see the ethernet header.
Tested: Ran tools/testing/selftests/net/psock_{fanout,tpacket} 10 times,

Currently, the rcutorture scripting will give an error message if
running a duplicate scenario that happens also to have a non-existent
build directory (b1, b2, ... in the rcutorture directory). Worse yet, if
the build directory has already been created and used for a real build,
the script will silently grab the wrong Kconfig fragment, which could
cause confusion to the poor sap (me) analyzing old test results. At
least the actual test runs correctly...
This commit therefore accesses the Kconfig fragment from the results
directory corresponding to the first of the duplicate scenarios, for
which a build was actually carried out. This prevents both the messages
and at least one form of later confusion.

The set_ftrace_file lists both functions that are filtered, as well as
function probes (triggers) that are attached to a function, like traceon or
stacktrace, etc. The reading of this file is not as trivial as most pseudo
files are, and there's been various bugs that have appeared in the past
when there's a mix of probes and functions listed. There's also a difference
when reading the file using dd with a block size of 1.
This test performs the following:
o Resets set_ftrace_filter
o Makes sure only "#### all functions enabled ####" is listed
(All checks uses cat, and dd with bs=1 and bs=100)
o Adds a traceon trigger to schedule
o Checks if only "#### all function enabled ####" and the trigger is there.

This adds a test to enable and disable trace events via the function

o disable all events
o disables or enables the sched_switch event
o writes schedule:event_enable/disable:sched:sched_switch into set_ftrace_filter
o 5 times it checks to make sure:
. Writes 0/1 into the sched_switch/enable
. Checks that the sched_switch/enable goes back to 1/0
o Resets the events
o writes schedule:event_enable/disable:sched:sched_switch:3 into set_ftrace_filter
o Does a loop of 3 to see that sched_switch/enable file gets updated
o Makes sure the sched_switch/enable stops getting updated

Just writing into the set_ftrace_filter file does not reset triggers, even
though it can reset the function list. Triggers require writing the trigger
name with a "!" prepended. It's worse that it requires the number if the
trigger has a count associated to it.
Add a reset_ftrace_filter function to the ftrace self tests to allow for the
tests to have a generic way to clear them. It also resets any functions that
are listed in that file as well.

after free bug, the selftest that Namhyung added triggers it. I figured
it would be good to add the test for the bug after the fix, such that
it does not exist without the fix.
I added another patch that lets the test only test part of the pid
filtering, and ignores the function-fork (filtering on children as well)
if the function-fork feature does not exist. This feature is added by
Namhyung just before he added this test. But since the test tests both
with and without the feature, it would be good to let it not fail if
the feature does not exist.

Have the func-filter-pid test check for the function-fork option before
testing it. It can still test the pid filtering, but will stop before
testing the function-fork option for children inheriting the pids.
This allows the test to be added before the function-fork feature, but after

After doing map_perf_test with a much bigger
BPF_F_NO_COMMON_LRU map, the perf report shows a
lot of time spent in rotating the inactive list (i.e.
__bpf_lru_list_rotate_inactive):
> map_perf_test 32 8 10000 1000000 | awk '{sum += $3}END{print sum}'
19644783 (19M/s)
> map_perf_test 32 8 10000000 10000000 | awk '{sum += $3}END{print sum}'
6283930 (6.28M/s)
By inactive, it usually means the element is not in cache. Hence,
there is a need to tune the PERCPU_NR_SCANS value.
This patch finds a better number of elements to
scan during each list rotation. The PERCPU_NR_SCANS (which
is defined the same as PERCPU_FREE_TARGET) decreases
from 16 elements to 4 elements. This change only
affects the BPF_F_NO_COMMON_LRU map.
The test_lru_dist does not show meaningful difference
between 16 and 4. Our production L4 load balancer which uses
the LRU map for conntrack-ing also shows little change in cache
hit rate. Since both benchmark and production data show no
cache-hit difference, PERCPU_NR_SCANS is lowered from 16 to 4.
We can consider making it configurable if we find a usecase
later that shows another value works better and/or use
a different rotation strategy.
After this change:
> map_perf_test 32 8 10000000 10000000 | awk '{sum += $3}END{print sum}'
9240324 (9.2M/s)
i.e. 6.28M/s -> 9.2M/s
The test_lru_dist has not shown meaningful difference:
> test_lru_dist zipf.100k.a1_01.out 4000 1:
nr_misses: 31575 (Before) vs 31566 (After)
> test_lru_dist zipf.100k.a0_01.out 40000 1
nr_misses: 67036 (Before) vs 67031 (After)

We want dax capable drivers to be able to publish a set of dax
operations [1]. However, we do not want to further abuse block_devices
to advertise these operations. Instead we will attach these operations
to a dax device and add a lookup mechanism to go from block device path
to a dax device. A dax capable driver like pmem or brd is responsible
for registering a dax device, alongside a block device, and then a dax
capable filesystem is responsible for retrieving the dax device by path
name if it wants to call dax_operations.
For now, we refactor the dax pseudo-fs to be a generic facility, rather
than an implementation detail, of the device-dax use case. Where a "dax
device" is just an inode + dax infrastructure, and "Device DAX" is a
mapping service layered on top of that base 'struct dax_device'.
"Filesystem DAX" is then a mapping service that layers a filesystem on
top of that same base device. Filesystem DAX is associated with a
block_device for now, but perhaps directly to a dax device in the
future, or for new pmem-only filesystems.

The check between the hardware state and our shadow of it is
checked in the signal handler for all bounds exceptions,
even for the ones where we don't keep the shadow up2date.
This is a problem because when no shadow is kept the handler
fails at this point and hides the real reason of the
exception.
Move the check into the code-path evaluating normal bounds
exceptions to prevent this.

Man page of mmap() says that portable applications should ensure fd
argument to be -1 if MAP_ANONYMOUS flag is set as below:
```
The mapping is not backed by any file; its contents are initialized to
zero. The fd and offset arguments are ignored; however, some
implementations require fd to be -1 if MAP_ANONYMOUS (or
MAP_ANON) is specified, and portable applications
should ensure this.
```
However, few mmap() calls under selftests/vm/ uses 0 as fd though they
use MAP_ANONYMOUS flag. This commit changes the argument to be -1 as
recommended.

Fix to compare a zero-filled hexadecimal value with a part of
string of long hexadecimal value.
In check_types(), the last part of testcase compares with
the hex value formatted by "%x" with a part of a string of
long hex value (trimmed by tail -c and head -c). However,
if that part of long hex value contains zero (e.g. "05" of

string, and the test case failed.

When a kretprobe is installed on a kernel function, there is a maximum
limit of how many calls in parallel it can catch (aka "maxactive"). A
kernel module could call register_kretprobe() and initialize maxactive
(see example in samples/kprobes/kretprobe_example.c).
But that is not exposed to userspace and it is currently not possible to
choose maxactive when writing to /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/kprobe_events
The default maxactive can be as low as 1 on single-core with a
non-preemptive kernel. This is too low and we need to increase it not
only for recursive functions, but for functions that sleep or resched.
This patch updates the format of the command that can be written to
kprobe_events so that maxactive can be optionally specified.
I need this for a bpf program attached to the kretprobe of
inet_csk_accept, which can sleep for a long time.
This patch includes a basic selftest:

The i915 GVT team need the rc4 code to base some more code on.
The changes to enable building with a separate output directory, in
commit a8ba798bc8 ("selftests: enable O and KBUILD_OUTPUT") broke
building the powerpc selftests on their own, eg:
$ cd tools/testing/selftests/powerpc; make
It was partially fixed in commit e53aff45c4 ("selftests: lib.mk Fix
individual test builds"), which defined OUTPUT for standalone tests. But
that only defines OUTPUT within the Makefile, the value is not exported
so sub-shells can't see it. We could export OUTPUT, but it's actually
cleaner to just expand the value of OUTPUT before we invoke the shell.

Like:
if (ptr + 16 > data_end)

if (ptr + 14 > data_end)

i386 glibc is buggy and calls the sigaction syscall incorrectly.
This is asymptomatic for normal programs, but it blows up on
programs that do evil things with segmentation. The ldt_gdt
self-test is an example of such an evil program.
This doesn't appear to be a regression -- I think I just got lucky
with the uninitialized memory that glibc threw at the kernel when I
wrote the test.
This hackish fix manually issues sigaction(2) syscalls to undo the
damage. Without the fix, ldt_gdt_32 segfaults; with the fix, it
passes for me.

Test cases for array of maps and hash of maps.

In both kmalloc and prealloc mode the bpf_map_update_elem() is using
per-cpu extra_elems to do atomic update when the map is full.
There are two issues with it. The logic can be misused, since it allows
max_entries+num_cpus elements to be present in the map. And alloc_extra_elems()
at map creation time can fail percpu alloc for large map values with a warn:
WARNING: CPU: 3 PID: 2752 at ../mm/percpu.c:892 pcpu_alloc+0x119/0xa60
illegal size (32824) or align (8) for percpu allocation
The fixes for both of these issues are different for kmalloc and prealloc modes.
For prealloc mode allocate extra num_possible_cpus elements and store
their pointers into extra_elems array instead of actual elements.
Hence we can use these hidden(spare) elements not only when the map is full
but during bpf_map_update_elem() that replaces existing element too.
That also improves performance, since pcpu_freelist_pop/push is avoided.
Unfortunately this approach cannot be used for kmalloc mode which needs
to kfree elements after rcu grace period. Therefore switch it back to normal
kmalloc even when full and old element exists like it was prior to
commit 6c90598174 ("bpf: pre-allocate hash map elements").
Add tests to check for over max_entries and large map values.

Merge of 'linux-kselftest-4.11-rc1':
1. Partially removed use of 'test_objs' target, breaking force rebuild of
BPFOBJ, introduced in commit d498f8719a ("bpf: Rebuild bpf.o for any
dependency update").
Update target so dependency on BPFOBJ is restored.
2. Introduced commit 2047f1d8ba ("selftests: Fix the .c linking rule")
which fixes order of LDLIBS.
Commit d02d8986a7 ("bpf: Always test unprivileged programs") added
libcap dependency into CFLAGS. Use LDLIBS instead to fix linking of
test_verifier.
3. Introduced commit d83c3ba0b9 ("selftests: Fix selftests build to
just build, not run tests").
Reordering the Makefile allows us to remove the 'all' target.
Tested both:
selftests/bpf$ make
and
selftests$ make TARGETS=bpf
on Ubuntu 16.04.2.

On POWER8 (ISA 2.07) lxvx and stxvx are defined to be extended mnemonics
of lxvd2x and stxvd2x. For POWER9 (ISA 3.0) the HW architects in their
infinite wisdom made lxvx and stxvx instructions in their own right.
POWER9 aware GCC will use the POWER9 instruction for lxvx and stxvx
causing these selftests to fail on POWER8. Further compounding the
issue, because of the way -mvsx works it will cause the power9
instructions to be used regardless of -mcpu=power8 to GCC or -mpower8 to
AS.
The safest way to address the problem for now is to not use the extended
mnemonic. We don't care how the CPU loads the values from memory since
the tests only performs register comparisons, so using stdvd2x/lxvd2x
does not impact the test.

infinite loop while doing the make mrproper. Looking into the cause I noticed
that a recent update to the function run_command (used for running all
shell commands, including "make mrproper") changed the internal loop to
use the function wait_for_input. The wait_for_input uses select to look
at two file descriptors. One is the file descriptor of the command it is
running, the other is STDIN. The STDIN check was not checking the return
status of the sysread call, and was also just writing a lot of data into
syswrite without regard to the size of the data read.
Changing the code to check the return status of sysread, and also to still
process the passed in descriptor data without looping back to the select
fixed Greg's problem.
While looking at this code I also realized that the loop did not honor
the timeout if STDIN always had input (or for some reason return error).
this could prevent wait_for_input to timeout on the file descriptor it
is suppose to be waiting for. That is fixed too.

ktest: Make sure wait_for_input does honor the timeout
ktest: Fix while loop in wait_for_input
The function wait_for_input takes in a timeout, and even has a default
timeout. But if for some reason the STDIN descriptor keeps sending in data,
the function will never time out. The timout is to wait for the data from
the passed in file descriptor, not for STDIN. Adding a test in the case
where there's no data from the passed in file descriptor that checks to see
if the timeout passed, will ensure that it will timeout properly even if
there's input in STDIN.
Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt (VMware) <rostedt@goodmis.org>
The run_command function was changed to use the wait_for_input function to
allow having a timeout if the command to run takes too much time. There was
a bug in the wait_for_input where it could end up going into an infinite
loop. There's two issues here. One is that the return value of the sysread
wasn't used for the write (to write a proper size), and that it should
continue processing the passed in file descriptor too even if there was
input. There was no check for error, if for some reason STDIN returned an
error, the function would go into an infinite loop and never exit.
