When there is an event on codec to codec dai_link, we only need to deal

In snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked(), a kernel buffer is allocated in
dapm_cnew_widget() to hold the new dapm widget. Then, different actions are
taken according to the id of the widget, i.e., 'w->id'. If any failure
occurs during this process, snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked() should be
terminated by going to the 'request_failed' label. However, the allocated
kernel buffer is not freed on this code path, leading to a memory leak bug.
To fix the above issue, free the buffer before returning from
snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked() through the 'request_failed' label.

DPCM uses snd_soc_dapm_dai_get_connected_widgets to build a
list of the widgets connected to a specific front end DAI so it
can search through this list for available back end DAIs. The
custom_stop_condition was added to is_connected_ep to facilitate this
list not containing more widgets than is necessary. Doing so both
speeds up the DPCM handling as less widgets need to be searched and
avoids issues with CODEC to CODEC links as these would be confused
with back end DAIs if they appeared in the list of available widgets.
custom_stop_condition was implemented by aborting the graph walk
when the condition is triggered, however there is an issue with this
approach. Whilst walking the graph is_connected_ep should update the
endpoints cache on each widget, if the walk is aborted the number
of attached end points is unknown for that sub-graph. When the stop
condition triggered, the original patch ignored the triggering widget
and returned zero connected end points; a later patch updated this
to set the triggering widget's cache to 1 and return that. Both of
these approaches result in inaccurate values being stored in various
end point caches as the values propagate back through the graph,
which can result in later issues with widgets powering/not powering
unexpectedly.
As the original goal was to reduce the size of the widget list passed
to the DPCM code, the simplest solution is to limit the functionality
of the custom_stop_condition to the widget list. This means the rest
of the graph will still be processed resulting in correct end point
caches, but only widgets up to the stop condition will be added to the
returned widget list.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the
size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with
memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo entry[];
};
instance = krealloc(instance, sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo), GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, use the new
struct_size() helper:
instance = krealloc(instance, struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL);

Currently all widgets attached to a DAI link will be powered
up when the DAI is active, however this may include routes
that are not actually in use if there are unused channels
available on the DAI.
The macros for creating AIF widgets already include an entry for
slot, it is proposed to change that to channel. The effective
difference here being respresenting the logical channel index
rather than the physical slot index. The CODECs currently
using the slot entry on the DAPM_AIF macros are using it in
a manner consistent with this, the CODECs not using it just
have the field set to zero.
A variable is added to snd_soc_dapm_widget to represent
this channel index and then for each AIF widget attached to
a DAI this is compared against the number of channels on
the stream. Enabling the links for those which will be in
use. This has the nice property that the CODECs which haven't
used the slot/channel entry in the macro will function exactly
as before due to all the AIF widgets having a channel of zero
and a stream by definition having at least one channel.

Change snprintf to scnprintf. There are generally two cases where using
snprintf causes problems.
1) Uses of size += snprintf(buf, SIZE - size, fmt, ...)
In this case, if snprintf would have written more characters than what the
buffer size (SIZE) is, then size will end up larger than SIZE. In later
uses of snprintf, SIZE - size will result in a negative number, leading
to problems. Note that size might already be too large by using
size = snprintf before the code reaches a case of size += snprintf.
2) If size is ultimately used as a length parameter for a copy back to user
space, then it will potentially allow for a buffer overflow and information
disclosure when size is greater than SIZE. When the size is used to index
the buffer directly, we can have memory corruption. This also means when
size = snprintf... is used, it may also cause problems since size may become
large. Copying to userspace is mitigated by the HARDENED_USERCOPY kernel
configuration.
The solution to these issues is to use scnprintf which returns the number of
characters actually written to the buffer, so the size variable will never
exceed SIZE.

Currently DAPM has a lot of similar code to handle errors from
snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked, and much of this code does
not really accurately reflect what the function returns.
Firstly, most places will check for a return value of
-EPROBE_DEFER and silence any error messages in that case. The
one notable exception here being dapm_kcontrol_data_alloc
which does currently print any error messages in the case
of snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked returning NULL or an
error. Additionally the error prints being silenced in these
case are redundant as snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked can
only return -EPROBE_DEFER or NULL when failing.
Secondly, most places will treat a return value of NULL as
an -ENOMEM. This is not correct either since any error except
EPROBE_DEFER will cause a return value of NULL from
snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked.
Centralise this handling and the error messages within
snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked and update the callers
to simply check IS_ERR and return. Note that this update is
slightly simpler in the case of dapm_kcontrol_data_alloc where
that is fairly close to the handling that was already in place.

When dapm_power_widgets() is called, the dapm_pre_sequence_async() and
dapm_post_sequence_async() functions are scheduled for all DAPM contexts
(apart from the card DAPM context) regardless of whether the DAPM
context is already in the desired state. The overhead of this is not
insignificant and the more DAPM contexts there are the more overhead
there is.
For example, on the Tegra124 Jetson TK1, when profiling the time taken
to execute the dapm_power_widgets() the following times were observed.
Times for function dapm_power_widgets() are (us):
Min 23, Ave 190, Max 434, Count 39
Here 'Count' is the number of times that dapm_power_widgets() has been
called. Please note that the above time were measured using ktime_get()
to log the time on entry and exit from dapm_power_widgets(). So it
should be noted that these times may not be purely the time take to
execute this function if it is preempted. However, after applying this
patch and measuring the time taken to execute dapm_power_widgets() again
a significant improvement is seen as shown below.
Times for function dapm_power_widgets() are (us):
Min 4, Ave 16, Max 82, Count 39
Therefore, optimise the dapm_power_widgets() function by only scheduling
the dapm_pre/post_sequence_async() work if the DAPM context is not in
the desired state.

is not built into the kernel and all the pinctrl functions used
by the DAPM core are appropriately stubbed for that case. There
is no need to error out of snd_soc_dapm_new_control_unlocked
if pinctrl isn't built into the kernel, so change the
IS_ERR_OR_NULL to just an IS_ERR.

Commit a655de808c ("ASoC: core: Allow topology to override
machine driver FE DAI link config.") caused soc_dai_hw_params to
be come dependent on the substream private_data being set with
a pointer to the snd_soc_pcm_runtime. Currently, CODEC to CODEC
links don't set this, which causes a NULL pointer dereference:
[<4069de54>] (soc_dai_hw_params) from
[<40694b68>] (snd_soc_dai_link_event+0x1a0/0x380)
Since the ASoC core in general assumes that the substream
private_data will be set to a pointer to the snd_soc_pcm_runtime,
update the CODEC to CODEC links to respect this.

Pull overflow updates from Kees Cook:
"This adds the new overflow checking helpers and adds them to the
2-factor argument allocators. And this adds the saturating size
helpers and does a treewide replacement for the struct_size() usage.
Additionally this adds the overflow testing modules to make sure
everything works.
I'm still working on the treewide replacements for allocators with
"simple" multiplied arguments:
*alloc(a * b, ...) -> *alloc_array(a, b, ...)
and
*zalloc(a * b, ...) -> *calloc(a, b, ...)
as well as the more complex cases, but that's separable from this
portion of the series. I expect to have the rest sent before -rc1
closes; there are a lot of messy cases to clean up.

- Use overflow helpers in 2-factor allocators (Kees, Rasmus)
- Introduce overflow test module (Rasmus, Kees)
- Introduce saturating size helper functions (Matthew, Kees)

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {
int stuff;
void *entry[];
};
instance = kmalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + sizeof(void *) * count, GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can
now use the new struct_size() helper:
instance = kmalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL);
This patch makes the changes for kmalloc()-family (and kvmalloc()-family)
uses. It was done via automatic conversion with manual review for the
"CHECKME" non-standard cases noted below, using the following Coccinelle
script:
// pkey_cache = kmalloc(sizeof *pkey_cache + tprops->pkey_tbl_len *
// sizeof *pkey_cache->table, GFP_KERNEL);

We now allocate the array conditionally, but we always pass
the pointer to the new snd_soc_dapm_free_kcontrol() function,
which introduces a warning for the case that it is not
initialized:

sound/soc/soc-dapm.c:3940:2: error: 'w_param_text' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
As snd_soc_dapm_free_kcontrol() is global, it doesn't get inlined
and gcc fails to notice that we don't actually access the array
in that case, so the code is actually safe. Adding an initialization
for the array pointer shuts up the warning.

Currently in codec to codec dai link if there are multiple
params defined then dapm can use created kcontrol to
decide which param to apply at runtime.
However, in case there is only single param configuration
then there is no point in creating the kcontrol and also there
is no point in allocating memory for kcontrol.
In the snd_soc_dapm_new_pcm function, there is memory
allocation happening for kcontrol which is later used
or not used based on num_param. It is better to not
allocate memory when there is only a single configuration.
This change is to remedy that anomaly.

This starts to handle probe deferrals on regulators and clocks
on the ASoC DAPM.
I came to this patch after audio stopped working on Ux500 ages
ago and I finally looked into it to see what is wrong. I had
messages like this in the console since a while back:
ab8500-codec.0: ASoC: Failed to request audioclk: -517
ab8500-codec.0: ASoC: Failed to create DAPM control audioclk
ab8500-codec.0: Failed to create new controls -12
snd-soc-mop500.0: ASoC: failed to instantiate card -12
snd-soc-mop500.0: Error: snd_soc_register_card failed (-12)!
snd-soc-mop500: probe of snd-soc-mop500.0 failed with error -12
Apparently because the widget table for the codec looks like
this (sound/soc/codecs/ab8500-codec.c):
static const struct snd_soc_dapm_widget ab8500_dapm_widgets[] = {
/* Clocks */
SND_SOC_DAPM_CLOCK_SUPPLY("audioclk"),
/* Regulators */
SND_SOC_DAPM_REGULATOR_SUPPLY("V-AUD", 0, 0),
SND_SOC_DAPM_REGULATOR_SUPPLY("V-AMIC1", 0, 0),
SND_SOC_DAPM_REGULATOR_SUPPLY("V-AMIC2", 0, 0),
SND_SOC_DAPM_REGULATOR_SUPPLY("V-DMIC", 0, 0),
So when we call snd_soc_register_codec() and any of these widgets
get a deferred probe we do not get an -EPROBE_DEFER (-517) back as
we should and instead we just fail. Apparently the code assumes
that clocks and regulators must be available at this point and
not defer.
After this patch it rather looks like this:
ab8500-codec.0: Failed to create new controls -517
snd-soc-mop500.0: ASoC: failed to instantiate card -517
snd-soc-mop500.0: Error: snd_soc_register_card failed (-517)!
(...)
abx500-clk.0: registered clocks for ab850x
snd-soc-mop500.0: ab8500-codec-dai.0 <-> ux500-msp-i2s.1 mapping ok
snd-soc-mop500.0: ab8500-codec-dai.1 <-> ux500-msp-i2s.3 mapping ok
I'm pretty happy about the patch as it it, but I'm a bit
uncertain on how to proceed: there are a lot of users of the
external functions snd_soc_dapm_new_control() (111 sites)
and that will now return an occassional error pointer, which
is not handled in the calling sites.
I want an indication from the maintainers whether I should just
go in and augment all these call sites, or if deferred probe
is frowned upon when it leads to this much overhead.

While DAPM is mono or single channel, its controls can be shared between
widgets, such as sharing one stereo mixer control between the left and
right channel widgets. An example such as the following routes
[Line In Left]----------<Line In Playback Switch>-------[Left Mixer]
^
^ ^ | ^
(inputs) (paths) <shared stereo mixer control> (outputs)
v v | v
v
[Line In Right]---------<Line In Playback Switch>-------[Right Mixer]
where we have separate widgets and paths for the left and right channels
from "Line In" to "Mixer", but a shared stereo mixer control for the
2 paths.
This patch introduces support for such shared mixer controls, allowing
more than 1 path to be attached to a single stereo control, and being

Certain situations may warrant examining DAPM paths only to a certain
arbitrary point, as opposed to always following them to the end. For
instance, when establishing a connection between a front-end DAI link
and a back-end DAI link in a DPCM path, it does not make sense to walk
the DAPM graph beyond the first widget associated with a back-end link.
This patch introduces a mechanism which lets a user of
dai_get_connected_widgets supply a function which will be called for
every node during the graph walk. When invoked, this function can
execute arbitrary logic to decide whether the walk, given a DAPM widget
and walk direction, should be terminated at that point or continued
as normal.

The dummy component is reused for all cards so we special case and don't
bind it to any of them. This means that code like that displaying the
component widgets that tries to look at the card will crash. In the
future we will fix this by ensuring that the dummy component looks like
other components but that is invasive and so not suitable for a fix.
Instead add a special case check here.

snd_soc_dapm_dai_link_get() and _put() access the associated ctl
values as value.integer.value[]. However, this is an enum ctl, and it
has to be accessed via value.enumerated.item[]. The former is long
while the latter is unsigned int, so they don't align.

When a DAPM context has a prefix the autodisable widgets get prefixed
twice, once for the control and once for the widget. To avoid this use
the un-prefixed control name to construct the autodisable widget name.
This change is purely cosmetic.

Always on widgets currently have some odd interactions with DAPM.
Enabling/disabling a widget (snd_soc_dapm_enable_pin) then connecting
it to a path works as expected, ie. when the widget is disabled the
path doesn't power up and it does when the widget is enabled. However
once in a path enabling the widget does not cause anything to power
up, dapm_widget_set_power will return the current power state of the
widget as 1, meaning we never check peer power states.
This patch updates dapm_always_on_check_power to return w->connected
such that it is effected by snd_soc_dapm_enable_pin and the like.
