Since "vhost/scsi: fix reuse of &vq->iov[out] in response"
we have this:
cmd->tvc_resp_iov = vq->iov[vc.out];
cmd->tvc_in_iovs = vc.in;
combined with
iov_iter_init(&iov_iter, ITER_DEST, &cmd->tvc_resp_iov,
cmd->tvc_in_iovs, sizeof(v_rsp));
in vhost_scsi_complete_cmd_work(). We used to have ->tvc_resp_iov
_pointing_ to vq->iov[vc.out]; back then iov_iter_init() asked to
set an iovec-backed iov_iter over the tail of vq->iov[], with
length being the amount of iovecs in the tail.
Now we have a copy of one element of that array. Fortunately, the members
following it in the containing structure are two non-NULL kernel pointers,
so copy_to_iter() will not copy anything beyond the first iovec - kernel
pointer is not (on the majority of architectures) going to be accepted by
access_ok() in copyout() and it won't be skipped since the "length" (in
reality - another non-NULL kernel pointer) won't be zero.
So it's not going to give a guest-to-qemu escalation, but it's definitely
a bug. Frankly, my preference would be to verify that the very first iovec
is long enough to hold rsp_size. Due to the above, any users that try to
give us vq->iov[vc.out].iov_len < sizeof(struct virtio_scsi_cmd_resp)
would currently get a failure in vhost_scsi_complete_cmd_work()
anyway.

However, the spec doesn't say anything about the legacy descriptor
layout for the respone. So this patch tries to not assume the response
to reside in a single separate descriptor which is what commit
79c14141a4 ("vhost/scsi: Convert completion path to use") tries to
achieve towards to ANY_LAYOUT.
This is done by allocating and using dedicate resp iov in the
command. To be safety, start with UIO_MAXIOV to be consistent with the
limitation that we advertise to the vhost_get_vq_desc().
Testing with the hacked virtio-scsi driver that use 1 descriptor for 1
byte in the response.

As vhost does not have any explicit reset user API,

release to free all the resources allocated when processing user IOTLB
messages through vhost_vdpa_process_iotlb_update().

A problem about modprobe vhost_vsock failed is triggered with the
following log given:
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vhost_vsock': Device or resource busy
The reason is that vhost_vsock_init() returns misc_register() directly
without checking its return value, if misc_register() failed, it returns
without calling vsock_core_unregister() on vhost_transport, resulting the
vhost_vsock can never be installed later.
A simple call graph is shown as below:
vhost_vsock_init()

The ioctl adds support for suspending the device from userspace.
This is a must before getting virtqueue indexes (base) for live migration,
since the device could modify them after userland gets them. There are
individual ways to perform that action for some devices
(VHOST_NET_SET_BACKEND, VHOST_VSOCK_SET_RUNNING, ...) but there was no
way to perform it for any vhost device (and, in particular, vhost-vdpa).
After a successful return of the ioctl call the device must not process
more virtqueue descriptors. The device can answer to read or writes of
config fields as if it were not suspended. In particular, writing to
"queue_enable" with a value of 1 will not make the device start
processing buffers of the virtqueue.

Qemu takes it's num_queues limit then adds the fixed queues (control and
event) to the total it will request from the kernel. So when a user
requests 128 (or qemu does it's num_queues calculation based on vCPUS
and other system limits), we hit errors due to userspace trying to setup
130 queues when vhost-scsi has a hard coded limit of 128.
This has vhost-scsi adjust it's max so we can do a total of 130 virtqueues
(128 IO and 2 fixed). For the case where the user has 128 vCPUs the guest
OS can then nicely map each IO virtqueue to a vCPU and not have the odd case
where 2 vCPUs share a virtqueue.

iotlb_translate() can return -ENOBUFS if the bio_vec is not big enough
to contain all the ranges for translation.
This can happen for example if the VMM maps a large bounce buffer,
without using hugepages, that requires more than 16 ranges to translate
the addresses.
To handle this case, let's extend iotlb_translate() to also return the
number of bytes successfully translated.

Before commit 3d56987938 ("vhost-vdpa: introduce asid based IOTLB")
we call vhost_vdpa_iotlb_free() during the release to clean all regions
mapped in the iotlb.
That commit removed vhost_vdpa_iotlb_free() and added vhost_vdpa_cleanup()
to do some cleanup, including deleting all mappings, but we forgot to call
it in vhost_vdpa_release().
This causes that if an application does not remove all mappings explicitly
(or it crashes), the mappings remain in the iotlb and subsequent
applications may fail if they map the same addresses.
Calling vhost_vdpa_cleanup() also fixes a memory leak since we are not
freeing `v->vdev.vqs` during the release from the same commit.
Since vhost_vdpa_cleanup() calls vhost_dev_cleanup() we can remove its
call from vhost_vdpa_release().

vhost_vsock_flush() calls vhost_work_dev_flush(vsock->vqs[i].poll.dev)
before vhost_work_dev_flush(&vsock->dev). This seems pointless
as vsock->vqs[i].poll.dev is the same as &vsock->dev and several flushes
in a row doesn't do anything useful, one is just enough.

vhost_test_flush_vq() just a simple wrapper around vhost_work_dev_flush()
which seems have no value. It's just easier to call vhost_work_dev_flush()
directly. Besides there is no point in obtaining vhost_dev pointer
via 'n->vqs[index].poll.dev' while we can just use &n->dev.
It's the same pointers, see vhost_test_open()/vhost_dev_init().

vhost_poll_flush() is a simple wrapper around vhost_work_dev_flush().
It gives wrong impression that we are doing some work over vhost_poll,
while in fact it flushes vhost_poll->dev.
It only complicate understanding of the code and leads to mistakes

supports multiple address spaces. The IOTLBs and vDPA device memory
mappings is determined and maintained through ASID.
Note that we still don't support vDPA device with more than one

This patches introduces the multiple address spaces support for vDPA
device. This idea is to identify a specific address space via an
dedicated identifier - ASID.
During vDPA device allocation, vDPA device driver needs to report the
number of address spaces supported by the device then the DMA mapping
ops of the vDPA device needs to be extended to support ASID.
This helps to isolate the environments for the virtqueue that will not
be assigned directly. E.g in the case of virtio-net, the control
virtqueue will not be assigned directly to guest.
As a start, simply claim 1 virtqueue groups and 1 address spaces for
all vDPA devices. And vhost-vDPA will simply reject the device with
more than 1 virtqueue groups or address spaces.

Descriptor table is a shared resource; two fget() on the same descriptor
may return different struct file references. get_tap_ptr_ring() is
called after we'd found (and pinned) the socket we'll be using and it
tries to find the private tun/tap data structures associated with it.
Redoing the lookup by the same file descriptor we'd used to get the
socket is racy - we need to same struct file.
Thanks to Jason for spotting a braino in the original variant of patch -
I'd missed the use of fd == -1 for disabling backend, and in that case
we can end up with sock == NULL and sock != oldsock.

In vhost_enable_notify() we enable the notifications and we read
the avail index to check if new buffers have become available in
the meantime.
We are not caching the avail index, so when the device will call
vhost_get_vq_desc(), it will find the old value in the cache and
it will read the avail index again.
It would be better to refresh the cache every time we read avail
index, so let's change vhost_enable_notify() caching the value in
`avail_idx` and compare it with `last_avail_idx` to check if there
are new buffers available.
We don't expect a significant performance boost because
the above path is not very common, indeed vhost_enable_notify()
is often called with unlikely(), expecting that avail index has
not been updated.
We ran virtio-test/vhost-test and noticed minimal improvement as
expected. To stress the patch more, we modified vhost_test.ko to
call vhost_enable_notify()/vhost_disable_notify() on every cycle
when calling vhost_get_vq_desc(); in this case we observed a more
evident improvement, with a reduction of the test execution time
of about 3.7%.

When iterating over sockets using vsock_for_each_connected_socket, make
sure that a transport filters out sockets that don't belong to the
transport.
There actually was an issue caused by this; in a nested VM
configuration, destroying the nested VM (which often involves the
closing of /dev/vhost-vsock if there was h2g connections to the nested
VM) kills not only the h2g connections, but also all existing g2h
connections to the (outmost) host which are totally unrelated.
Tested: Executed the following steps on Cuttlefish (Android running on a
VM) [1]: (1) Enter into an `adb shell` session - to have a g2h
connection inside the VM, (2) open and then close /dev/vhost-vsock by
`exec 3< /dev/vhost-vsock && exec 3<&-`, (3) observe that the adb
session is not reset.

Commit e2ae38cf3d ("vhost: fix hung thread due to erroneous iotlb
entries") tries to reject the IOTLB message whose size is zero. But
the size is not necessarily meaningful, one example is the batching
hint, so the commit breaks that.
Fixing this be reject zero size message only if the message is used to
update/invalidate the IOTLB.

In vhost_iotlb_add_range_ctx(), range size can overflow to 0 when
start is 0 and last is ULONG_MAX. One instance where it can happen
is when userspace sends an IOTLB message with iova=size=uaddr=0
(vhost_process_iotlb_msg). So, an entry with size = 0, start = 0,
last = ULONG_MAX ends up in the iotlb. Next time a packet is sent,
iotlb_access_ok() loops indefinitely due to that erroneous entry.

vhost_vsock_stop() calls vhost_dev_check_owner() to check the device
ownership. It expects current->mm to be valid.
vhost_vsock_stop() is also called by vhost_vsock_dev_release() when
the user has not done close(), so when we are in do_exit(). In this
case current->mm is invalid and we're releasing the device, so we
should clean it anyway.
Let's check the owner only when vhost_vsock_stop() is called
by an ioctl.
When invoked from release we can not fail so we don't check return
code of vhost_vsock_stop(). We need to stop vsock even if it's not
the owner.

Call reset using the wrapper function vdpa_reset() to make sure the
operation is serialized with cf_mutex.
This comes to protect from the following possible scenario:
vhost_vdpa_set_status() could call the reset op. Since the call is not
protected by cf_mutex, a netlink thread calling vdpa_dev_config_fill
could get passed the VIRTIO_CONFIG_S_FEATURES_OK check in

The return type of get_config_size is size_t so it makes
sense to change the type of the variable holding its result.
That said, this already got taken care of (differently, and arguably
not as well) by commit 3ed21c1451 ("vdpa: check that offsets are
within bounds").
The added 'c->off > size' test in that commit will be done as an
unsigned comparison on 32-bit (safe due to not being signed).
On a 64-bit platform, it will be done as a signed comparison, but in
that case the comparison will be done in 64-bit, and 'c->off' being an
u32 it will be valid thanks to the extended range (ie both values will
be positive in 64 bits).
So this was a real bug, but it was already addressed and marked for stable.

This current implemented bit is used to mark end of messages
('EOM' - end of message), not records('EOR' - end of record).
Also rename 'record' to 'message' in implementation as it is
different things.

Both SKB_FRAG_PAGE_ORDER are defined to the same value in
net/core/sock.c and drivers/vhost/net.c.
Move the SKB_FRAG_PAGE_ORDER definition to net/core/sock.h,
as both net/core/sock.c and drivers/vhost/net.c include it,
and it seems a reasonable file to put the macro.
