Currently in case of target hardware restart, we just reconfig and
re-enable the security keys and enable the network queues to start
data traffic back from where it was interrupted.
Many ath10k wifi chipsets have sequence numbers for the data
packets assigned by firmware and the mac sequence number will
restart from zero after target hardware restart leading to mismatch
in the sequence number expected by the remote peer vs the sequence
number of the frame sent by the target firmware.
This mismatch in sequence number will cause out-of-order packets
on the remote peer and all the frames sent by the device are dropped
until we reach the sequence number which was sent before we restarted
the target hardware
In order to fix this, we trigger a sta disconnect, in case of target
hw restart. After this there will be a fresh connection and thereby
avoiding the dropping of frames by remote peer.
The right fix would be to pull the entire data path into the host
which is not feasible or would need lots of complex changes and
will still be inefficient.

While commit 6a01afcf84 ("mac80211: mesh: Free ie data when leaving
mesh") fixed a memory leak on mesh leave / teardown it introduced a
potential memory corruption caused by a double free when rejoining the
mesh:
ieee80211_leave_mesh()
-> kfree(sdata->u.mesh.ie);
...
ieee80211_join_mesh()
-> copy_mesh_setup()
-> old_ie = ifmsh->ie;
-> kfree(old_ie);
This double free / kernel panics can be reproduced by using wpa_supplicant
with an encrypted mesh (if set up without encryption via "iw" then
ifmsh->ie is always NULL, which avoids this issue). And then calling:
$ iw dev mesh0 mesh leave
$ iw dev mesh0 mesh join my-mesh
Note that typically these commands are not used / working when using
wpa_supplicant. And it seems that wpa_supplicant or wpa_cli are going
through a NETDEV_DOWN/NETDEV_UP cycle between a mesh leave and mesh join
where the NETDEV_UP resets the mesh.ie to NULL via a memcpy of
default_mesh_setup in cfg80211_netdev_notifier_call, which then avoids
the memory corruption, too.
The issue was first observed in an application which was not using
wpa_supplicant but "Senf" instead, which implements its own calls to
nl80211.
Fixing the issue by removing the kfree()'ing of the mesh IE in the mesh
join function and leaving it solely up to the mesh leave to free the
mesh IE.

When we get anti-clogging token required (added by the commit
mentioned below), or the other status codes added by the later
commit 4e56cde15f ("mac80211: Handle special status codes in
SAE commit") we currently just pretend (towards the internal
state machine of authentication) that we didn't receive anything.
This has the undesirable consequence of retransmitting the prior
frame, which is not expected, because the timer is still armed.
If we just disarm the timer at that point, it would result in
the undesirable side effect of being in this state indefinitely
if userspace crashes, or so.
So to fix this, reset the timer and set a new auth_data->waiting
in order to have no more retransmissions, but to have the data
destroyed when the timer actually fires, which will only happen
if userspace didn't continue (i.e. crashed or abandoned it.)

There are two problems with the current code that have been highlighted
with the AQL feature that is now enbaled by default.
First problem is in ieee80211_rx_h_mesh_fwding(),
ieee80211_select_queue_80211() is used on received packets to choose
the sending AC queue of the forwarding packet although this function
should only be called on TX packet (it uses ieee80211_tx_info).
This ends with forwarded mesh packets been sent on unrelated random AC
queue. To fix that, AC queue can directly be infered from skb->priority
which has been extracted from QOS info (see ieee80211_parse_qos()).
Second problem is the value of queue_mapping set on forwarded mesh
frames via skb_set_queue_mapping() is not the AC of the packet but a
hardware queue index. This may or may not work depending on AC to HW
queue mapping which is driver specific.
Both of these issues lead to improper AC selection while forwarding
mesh packets but more importantly due to improper airtime accounting
(which is done on a per STA, per AC basis) caused traffic stall with
the introduction of AQL.

mac80211 set capability NL80211_EXT_FEATURE_CONTROL_PORT_OVER_NL80211
to upper layer by default. That means we should pass EAPoL packets through
nl80211 path only, and should not send the EAPoL skb to netdevice diretly.
At the meanwhile, wpa_supplicant would not register sock to listen EAPoL
skb on the netdevice.
However, there is no control_port_protocol handler in mac80211 for 802.3 RX
packets, mac80211 driver would pass up the EAPoL rekey frame to netdevice
and wpa_supplicant would be never interactive with this kind of packets,
if SUPPORTS_RX_DECAP_OFFLOAD is enabled. This causes STA always rekey fail
if EAPoL frame go through 802.3 path.
To avoid this problem, align the same process as 802.11 type to handle
this frame before put it into network stack.
This also addresses a potential security issue in 802.3 RX mode that was
previously fixed in commit a8c4d76a8d ("mac80211: do not accept/forward
invalid EAPOL frames").

There's currently only one driver that reports CHECKSUM_COMPLETE,
that is iwlwifi. The current hardware there calculates checksum
after the SNAP header, but only RFC 1042 (and some other cases,
but replicating the exact hardware logic for corner cases in the
driver seemed awkward.)
Newer generations of hardware will checksum _including_ the SNAP,
which makes things easier.
To handle that, simply always assume the checksum _includes_ the
SNAP header, which this patch does, requiring to first add it
for older iwlwifi hardware, and then remove it again later on
conversion.
Alternatively, we could have:
1) Always assumed the checksum starts _after_ the SNAP header;
the problem with this is that we'd have to replace the exact
"what is the SNAP" check in iwlwifi that cfg80211 has.
2) Made it configurable with some flag, but that seemed like too
much complexity.

but it could happen anywhere else, because code assumes these pointers are
valid.
Since all ieee80211_*_setup_sdata functions are void and do not fail,
let's embedd mesh_paths and mpp_paths into parent struct to avoid
adding error handling on higher levels and follow the pattern of others
setup_sdata functions

When we reconfigure, the driver might do some things to complete
the reconfiguration. It's strange and could be broken in some
cases because we restart other works (e.g. remain-on-channel and
TX) before this happens, yet only start queues later.
Change this to do the reconfig complete when reconfiguration is
actually complete, not when we've already started doing other
things again.
For iwlwifi, this should fix a race where the reconfig can race
with TX, for ath10k and ath11k that also use this it won't make
a difference because they just start queues there, and mac80211
also stopped the queues and will restart them later as before.

Mark TXQs as having seen transmit while they were stopped if
we bail out of drv_wake_tx_queue() due to reconfig, so that
the queue wake after this will make them catch up. This is

When we call ieee80211_agg_start_txq(), that will in turn call
schedule_and_wake_txq(). Called from ieee80211_stop_tx_ba_cb()
this is done under sta->lock, which leads to certain circular
lock dependencies, as reported by Chris Murphy:
https://lore.kernel.org/r/CAJCQCtSXJ5qA4bqSPY=oLRMbv-irihVvP7A2uGutEbXQVkoNaw@mail.gmail.com
In general, ieee80211_agg_start_txq() is usually not called
with sta->lock held, only in this one place. But it's always
called with sta->ampdu_mlme.mtx held, and that's therefore
clearly sufficient.
Change ieee80211_stop_tx_ba_cb() to also call it without the
sta->lock held, by factoring it out of ieee80211_remove_tid_tx()
(which is only called in this one place).
This breaks the locking chain and makes it less likely that
we'll have similar locking chain problems in the future.

Sending them out on a different queue can cause a race condition where a
number of packets in the queue may be discarded by the receiver, because
the ADDBA request is sent too early.
This affects any driver with software A-MPDU setup which does not allocate
packet seqno in hardware on tx, regardless of whether iTXQ is used or not.
The only driver I've seen that explicitly deals with this issue internally
is mwl8k.

Since commit a05829a722 ("cfg80211: avoid holding the RTNL when

to monitor_sdata with the RTNL, but also with the wiphy->mtx. This
is relevant in a number of lockdep assertions, e.g. the one we hit
in ieee80211_set_monitor_channel(). However, we're now protecting
all the assignments/dereferences, even the one in interface iter,
with the wiphy->mtx, so switch over the lockdep assertions to that
lock.

When __ieee80211_select_queue is called, skb->cb has not been cleared yet,
which means that info->control.flags can contain garbage.
In some cases this leads to IEEE80211_TX_CTRL_DONT_REORDER being set, causing
packets marked for other queues to randomly end up in BE instead.

In commit 8c89f7b3d3 ("mac80211: Use flex-array for radiotap header
bitmap") we accidentally pointed the position to the wrong place, so
we overwrite a present bitmap, and thus cause all kinds of trouble.
To see the issue, note that the previous code read:
pos = (void *)(it_present + 1);
The requirement now is that we need to calculate pos via it_optional,
to not trigger the compiler hardening checks, as:
pos = (void *)&rthdr->it_optional[...];
Rewriting the original expression, we get (obviously, since that just
adds "+ x - x" terms):
pos = (void *)(it_present + 1 + rthdr->it_optional - rthdr->it_optional)
and moving the "+ rthdr->it_optional" outside to be used as an array:
pos = (void *)&rthdr->it_optional[it_present + 1 - rthdr->it_optional];
The original is off by one, fix it.

Submitting AP probe/null during suspend can cause unexpected
disconnect on resume because of timeout waiting for ack status:
wlan0: Failed to send nullfunc to AP 11:22:33:44:55:66 after 500ms, disconnecting
This is especially the case when we enter suspend when a scan is
ongoing, indeed, scan is cancelled from __ieee80211_suspend, leading
to a corresponding (aborted) scan complete event, which in turn causes
the submission of an immediate monitor null frame (restart_sta_timer).
The corresponding packet or ack will not be processed before resuming,
causing a timeout & disconnect on resume.
Delay the AP probing when suspending/suspended.

Commit e72aeb9ee0 ("fq_codel: implement L4S style ce_threshold_ect1
marking") expanded the ce_threshold feature of FQ-CoDel so it can
be applied to a subset of the traffic, using the ECT(1) bit of the ECN
field as the classifier. However, hard-coding ECT(1) as the only
classifier for this feature seems limiting, so let's expand it to be more
general.
To this end, change the parameter from a ce_threshold_ect1 boolean, to a
one-byte selector/mask pair (ce_threshold_{selector,mask}) which is applied
to the whole diffserv/ECN field in the IP header. This makes it possible to
classify packets by any value in either the ECN field or the diffserv
field. In particular, setting a selector of INET_ECN_ECT_1 and a mask of
INET_ECN_MASK corresponds to the functionality before this patch, and a
mask of ~INET_ECN_MASK allows using the selector as a straight-forward
match against a diffserv code point:
# apply ce_threshold to ECT(1) traffic
tc qdisc replace dev eth0 root fq_codel ce_threshold 1ms ce_threshold_selector 0x1/0x3
# apply ce_threshold to ECN-capable traffic marked as diffserv AF22
tc qdisc replace dev eth0 root fq_codel ce_threshold 1ms ce_threshold_selector 0x50/0xfc
Regardless of the selector chosen, the normal rules for ECN-marking of
packets still apply, i.e., the flow must still declare itself ECN-capable
by setting one of the bits in the ECN field to get marked at all.

Add TCA_FQ_CODEL_CE_THRESHOLD_ECT1 boolean option to select Low Latency,
Low Loss, Scalable Throughput (L4S) style marking, along with ce_threshold.
If enabled, only packets with ECT(1) can be transformed to CE
if their sojourn time is above the ce_threshold.
Note that this new option does not change rules for codel law.
In particular, if TCA_FQ_CODEL_ECN is left enabled (this is
the default when fq_codel qdisc is created), ECT(0) packets can
still get CE if codel law (as governed by limit/target) decides so.
Section 4.3.b of current draft [1] states:
b. A scheduler with per-flow queues such as FQ-CoDel or FQ-PIE can
be used for L4S. For instance within each queue of an FQ-CoDel
system, as well as a CoDel AQM, there is typically also ECN
marking at an immediate (unsmoothed) shallow threshold to support
use in data centres (see Sec.5.2.7 of [RFC8290]). This can be
modified so that the shallow threshold is solely applied to
ECT(1) packets. Then if there is a flow of non-ECN or ECT(0)
packets in the per-flow-queue, the Classic AQM (e.g. CoDel) is
applied; while if there is a flow of ECT(1) packets in the queue,
the shallower (typically sub-millisecond) threshold is applied.
Tested:
tc qd replace dev eth1 root fq_codel ce_threshold_ect1 50usec

When PN checking is done in mac80211, for fragmentation we need
to copy the PN to the RX struct so we can later use it to do a
comparison, since commit bf30ca922a ("mac80211: check defrag
PN against current frame").
Unfortunately, in that commit I used the 'hdr' variable without
it being necessarily valid, so use-after-free could occur if it
was necessary to reallocate (parts of) the frame.
Fix this by reloading the variable after the code that results
in the reallocations, if any.

As the 802.11 spec evolves, we need to parse more and more
elements. This is causing the struct to grow, and we can no
longer get away with putting it on the stack.
Change the API to always dynamically allocate and return an
allocated pointer that must be kfree()d later.
As an alternative, I contemplated a scheme whereby we'd say
in the code which elements we needed, e.g.
DECLARE_ELEMENT_PARSER(elems,
SUPPORTED_CHANNELS,
CHANNEL_SWITCH,
EXT(KEY_DELIVERY));
ieee802_11_parse_elems(..., &elems, ...);
and while I think this is possible and will save us a lot
since most individual places only care about a small subset
of the elements, it ended up being a bit more work since a
lot of places do the parsing and then pass the struct to
other functions, sometimes with multiple levels.

This reverts commit d333322361 ("mac80211: do not use low data rates for
data frames with no ack flag").
Returning false early in rate_control_send_low breaks sending broadcast
packets, since rate control will not select a rate for it.
Before re-introducing a fixed version of this patch, we should probably also
make some changes to rate control to be more conservative in selecting rates
for no-ack packets and also prevent using probing rates on them, since we won't
get any feedback.

Introduce TWT action frames parsing support to mac80211.
Currently just individual TWT agreement are support in AP mode.
Whenever the AP receives a TWT action frame from an associated client,
after performing sanity checks, it will notify the underlay driver with
requested parameters in order to check if they are supported and if there
is enough room for a new agreement. The driver is expected to set the
agreement result and report it to mac80211.
Drivers supporting this have two new callbacks:
- add_twt_setup (mandatory)
- twt_teardown_request (optional)
mac80211 will send an action frame reply according to the result
reported by the driver.

In preparation for FORTIFY_SOURCE performing compile-time and run-time
field bounds checking for memcpy(), memmove(), and memset(), avoid
intentionally writing across neighboring fields.
The it_present member of struct ieee80211_radiotap_header is treated as a
flexible array (multiple u32s can be conditionally present). In order for
memcpy() to reason (or really, not reason) about the size of operations
against this struct, use of bytes beyond it_present need to be treated
as part of the flexible array. Add a trailing flexible array and
initialize its initial index via pointer arithmetic.

The maximum MTU was set to 2304, which is the maximum MSDU size. While
this is valid for normal WLAN interfaces, it is too low for monitor
interfaces. A monitor interface may receive and inject MPDU frames, and
the maximum MPDU frame size is larger than 2304. The MPDU may also
contain an A-MSDU frame, in which case the size may be much larger than
the MTU limit. Since the maximum size of an A-MSDU depends on the PHY
mode of the transmitting STA, it is not possible to set an exact MTU
limit for a monitor interface. Now the maximum MTU for a monitor
interface is unrestricted.

When a monitor interface is present together with other interfaces, a
received skb is copied and received on the monitor netdev. Before, the
copied skb was allocated with exactly the amount of space needed for
the radiotap header, resulting in an skb without any headroom at all
being received on the monitor netdev. With the introduction of eBPF
and XDP in the kernel, skbs may be processed by custom eBPF programs.
However, since the skb cannot be reallocated in the eBPF program, no
more data or headers can be pushed. The old code made sure the final
headroom was zero regardless of the value of NET_SKB_PAD, so increasing
that constant would have no effect.
Now we allocate monitor skb copies with a headroom of NET_SKB_PAD bytes
before the radiotap header. Monitor interfaces now behave in the same
way as other netdev interfaces that honor the NET_SKB_PAD constant.

This switches the airtime scheduler in mac80211 to use a virtual
time-based scheduler instead of the round-robin scheduler used before.
This has a couple of advantages:
- No need to sync up the round-robin scheduler in firmware/hardware with
the round-robin airtime scheduler.
- If several stations are eligible for transmission we can schedule both
of them; no need to hard-block the scheduling rotation until the head
of the queue has used up its quantum.
- The check of whether a station is eligible for transmission becomes
simpler (in ieee80211_txq_may_transmit()).
The drawback is that scheduling becomes slightly more expensive, as we
need to maintain an rbtree of TXQs sorted by virtual time. This means
that ieee80211_register_airtime() becomes O(logN) in the number of
currently scheduled TXQs because it can change the order of the
scheduled stations. We mitigate this overhead by only resorting when a
station changes position in the tree, and hopefully N rarely grows too
big (it's only TXQs currently backlogged, not all associated stations),
so it shouldn't be too big of an issue.
To prevent divisions in the fast path, we maintain both station sums and
pre-computed reciprocals of the sums. This turns the fast-path operation
into a multiplication, with divisions only happening as the number of
active stations change (to re-compute the current sum of all active
station weights). To prevent this re-computation of the reciprocal from
happening too frequently, we use a time-based notion of station
activity, instead of updating the weight every time a station gets
scheduled or de-scheduled. As queues can oscillate between empty and
occupied quite frequently, this can significantly cut down on the number
of re-computations. It also has the added benefit of making the station
airtime calculation independent on whether the queue happened to have
drained at the time an airtime value was accounted.

The following race was possible:
1. The device driver requests HW restart.
2. A scan is requested from user space and is propagated
to the driver. During this flow HW_SCANNING flag is set.
3. The thread that handles the HW restart is scheduled,
and before starting the actual reconfiguration it
checks that HW_SCANNING is not set. The flow does so
without acquiring any lock, and thus the WARN fires.
Fix this by checking that HW_SCANNING is on only after RTNL is

Syzbot reports that when you have AP_VLAN interfaces that are up
and close the AP interface they belong to, we get a deadlock. No
surprise - since we dev_close() them with the wiphy mutex held,
which goes back into the netdev notifier in cfg80211 and tries to
acquire the wiphy mutex there.
To fix this, we need to do two things:
1) prevent changing iftype while AP_VLANs are up, we can't
easily fix this case since cfg80211 already calls us with
the wiphy mutex held, but change_interface() is relatively
rare in drivers anyway, so changing iftype isn't used much
(and userspace has to fall back to down/change/up anyway)
2) pull the dev_close() loop over VLANs out of the wiphy mutex
section in the normal stop case

The commit cb17ed29a7 ("mac80211: parse radiotap header when selecting Tx
queue") moved the code to validate the radiotap header from
ieee80211_monitor_start_xmit to ieee80211_parse_tx_radiotap. This made is
possible to share more code with the new Tx queue selection code for
injected frames. But at the same time, it now required the call of
ieee80211_parse_tx_radiotap at the beginning of functions which wanted to
handle the radiotap header. And this broke the rate parser for radiotap
header parser.
The radiotap parser for rates is operating most of the time only on the
data in the actual radiotap header. But for the 802.11a/b/g rates, it must
also know the selected band from the chandef information. But this
information is only written to the ieee80211_tx_info at the end of the
ieee80211_monitor_start_xmit - long after ieee80211_parse_tx_radiotap was
already called. The info->band information was therefore always 0
(NL80211_BAND_2GHZ) when the parser code tried to access it.
For a 5GHz only device, injecting a frame with 802.11a rates would cause a
NULL pointer dereference because local->hw.wiphy->bands[NL80211_BAND_2GHZ]
would most likely have been NULL when the radiotap parser searched for the
correct rate index of the driver.

For some chips/drivers, e.g., QCA6174 with ath10k, the decryption is
done by the hardware, and the Protected bit in the Frame Control field
is cleared in the lower level driver before the frame is passed to
mac80211. In such cases, the condition for ieee80211_has_protected() is
not met in ieee80211_rx_h_defragment() of mac80211 and the new security
validation steps are not executed.
Extend mac80211 to cover the case where the Protected bit has been
cleared, but the frame is indicated as having been decrypted by the
hardware. This extends protection against mixed key and fragment cache
attack for additional drivers/chips. This fixes CVE-2020-24586 and
CVE-2020-24587 for such cases.

EAPOL frames are used for authentication and key management between the
AP and each individual STA associated in the BSS. Those frames are not
supposed to be sent by one associated STA to another associated STA
(either unicast for broadcast/multicast).
Similarly, in 802.11 they're supposed to be sent to the authenticator
(AP) address.
Since it is possible for unexpected EAPOL frames to result in misbehavior
in supplicant implementations, it is better for the AP to not allow such
cases to be forwarded to other clients either directly, or indirectly if
the AP interface is part of a bridge.
Accept EAPOL (control port) frames only if they're transmitted to the
own address, or, due to interoperability concerns, to the PAE group
address.
Disable forwarding of EAPOL (or well, the configured control port
protocol) frames back to wireless medium in all cases. Previously, these
frames were accepted from fully authenticated and authorized stations
and also from unauthenticated stations for one of the cases.
Additionally, to avoid forwarding by the bridge, rewrite the PAE group
address case to the local MAC address.

As pointed out by Mathy Vanhoef, we implement the RX PN check
on fragmented frames incorrectly - we check against the last
received PN prior to the new frame, rather than to the one in
this frame itself.
Prior patches addressed the security issue here, but in order
to be able to reason better about the code, fix it to really
compare against the current frame's PN, not the last stored
one.

Prior patches protected against fragmentation cache attacks
by coloring keys, but this shows that it can lead to issues
when multiple stations use the same sequence number. Add a
fragment cache to struct sta_info (in addition to the one in
the interface) to separate fragments for different stations
properly.
This then automatically clear most of the fragment cache when a
station disconnects (or reassociates) from an AP, or when client
interfaces disconnect from the network, etc.
On the way, also fix the comment there since this brings us in line
with the recommendation in 802.11-2016 ("An AP should support ...").
Additionally, remove a useless condition (since there's no problem
purging an already empty list).

With old ciphers (WEP and TKIP) we shouldn't be using A-MSDUs
since A-MSDUs are only supported if we know that they are, and
the only practical way for that is HT support which doesn't
support old ciphers.
However, we would normally accept them anyway. Since we check
the MMIC before deaggregating A-MSDUs, and the A-MSDU bit in
the QoS header is not protected in TKIP (or WEP), this enables
attacks similar to CVE-2020-24588. To prevent that, drop A-MSDUs
completely with old ciphers.

Simultaneously prevent mixed key attacks (CVE-2020-24587) and fragment
cache attacks (CVE-2020-24586). This is accomplished by assigning a
unique color to every key (per interface) and using this to track which
key was used to decrypt a fragment. When reassembling frames, it is
now checked whether all fragments were decrypted using the same key.
To assure that fragment cache attacks are also prevented, the ID that is
assigned to keys is unique even over (re)associations and (re)connects.
This means fragments separated by a (re)association or (re)connect will
not be reassembled. Because mac80211 now also prevents the reassembly of
mixed encrypted and plaintext fragments, all cache attacks are prevented.

Do not mix plaintext and encrypted fragments in protected Wi-Fi
networks. This fixes CVE-2020-26147.
Previously, an attacker was able to first forward a legitimate encrypted
fragment towards a victim, followed by a plaintext fragment. The
encrypted and plaintext fragment would then be reassembled. For further
details see Section 6.3 and Appendix D in the paper "Fragment and Forge:
Breaking Wi-Fi Through Frame Aggregation and Fragmentation".
Because of this change there are now two equivalent conditions in the
code to determine if a received fragment requires sequential PNs, so we
also move this test to a separate function to make the code easier to
maintain.

This will allow the low level driver to get the wdev during
the add_interface flow.
In order to do that, remove a few checks from there and do
not return NULL for vifs that were not yet added to the
driver. Note that all the current callers of this helper
function assume that the vif already exists:
- The callers from the drivers already have a vif pointer.
Before this change, ieee80211_vif_to_wdev would return NULL
in some cases, but those callers don't even check they
get a non-NULL pointer from ieee80211_vif_to_wdev.
- The callers from net/mac80211/cfg.c assume the vif is
already added to the driver as well.
So, this change has no impact on existing callers of this
helper function.

My previous commit to not apply flow control to management frames
that are going over TXQs (which is currently only the case for
iwlwifi, I think) broke things, with iwlwifi firmware crashing on
certain frames. As it turns out, that was due to the frame being
too short: space for the MIC wasn't added at the end of encrypted
management frames.
Clearly, this is due to using the 'frags' queue - this is meant
only for frames that have already been processed for TX, and the
code in ieee80211_tx_dequeue() just returns them. This caused all
management frames to now not get any TX processing.
To fix this, use IEEE80211_TX_INTCFL_NEED_TXPROCESSING (which is
currently used only in other circumstances) to indicate that the
frames need processing, and clear it immediately after so that,
at least in theory, MMPDUs can be fragmented.

If any of the cipher schemes specified by the driver are invalid, bail
out and fail the registration rather than just warning. Otherwise, we

After channel switch, we should consider any beacon with a
CSA IE as a new switch. If the CSA IE is a leftover from
before the switch that the AP forgot to remove, we'll get
a CSA-to-Self.
This caused issues in iwlwifi where the firmware saw a beacon
with a CSA-to-Self with mode = 1 on the new channel after a
switch. The firmware considered this a new switch and closed
its queues. Since the beacon didn't change between before and
after the switch, we wouldn't handle it (the CRC is the same)
and we wouldn't let the firmware open its queues again or
disconnect if the CSA IE stays for too long.
Clear the CRC valid state after we switch to make sure that
we handle the beacon and handle the CSA IE as required.

Some drivers, for example mt76, use the skb priority field, and
expects that to be consistent with the skb queue mapping. On some
frame injection code paths that was not true, and it broke frame
injection. Now the skb queue mapping is set according to the skb
priority value when the frame is injected. The skb priority value
is also derived from the frame data for all frame types, as it
was done prior to commit dbd50a851c (only allocate one queue
when using iTXQs). Fixes frame injection with the mt76 driver on

Some HW/driver can support passing ethernet rx decap frames and
raw 802.11 frames for the monitor interface concurrently and
via separate RX calls to mac80211. Packets going to the monitor
interface(s) would be in 802.11 format and thus not have the
RX_FLAG_8023 set, and 802.11 format monitoring frames should have
RX_FLAG_ONLY_MONITOR set.
Drivers doing such can enable the SUPPORTS_CONC_MON_RX_DECAP to
allow using ethernet decap offload while a monitor interface is
active, currently RX decapsulation offload gets disabled when a
monitor interface is added.

In some cases (depending on the driver, but it's true e.g. for
iwlwifi) we're using an internal TXQ for management packets,
mostly to simplify the code and to have a place to queue them.
However, it appears that in certain cases we can confuse the
code and management frames are dropped, which is certainly not
what we want.
Short-circuit the processing of management frames. To keep the
impact minimal, only put them on the frags queue and check the
tid == management only for doing that and to skip the airtime
fairness checks, if applicable.

Normally, TXQs have
txq->tid = tid;
txq->ac = ieee80211_ac_from_tid(tid);
However, the special management TXQ actually has
txq->tid = IEEE80211_NUM_TIDS; // 16
txq->ac = IEEE80211_AC_VO;
This makes sense, but ieee80211_ac_from_tid(16) is the same
as ieee80211_ac_from_tid(0) which is just IEEE80211_AC_BE.
Now, normally this is fine. However, if the netdev queues
were stopped, then the code in ieee80211_tx_dequeue() will
propagate the stop from the interface (vif->txqs_stopped[])
if the AC 2 (ieee80211_ac_from_tid(txq->tid)) is marked as
stopped. On wake, however, __ieee80211_wake_txqs() will wake
the TXQ if AC 0 (txq->ac) is woken up.
If a driver stops all queues with ieee80211_stop_tx_queues()
and then wakes them again with ieee80211_wake_tx_queues(),
the ieee80211_wake_txqs() tasklet will run to resync queue
and TXQ state. If all queues were woken, then what'll happen
is that _ieee80211_wake_txqs() will run in order of HW queues
0-3, typically (and certainly for iwlwifi) corresponding to
ACs 0-3, so it'll call __ieee80211_wake_txqs() for each AC in
order 0-3.
When __ieee80211_wake_txqs() is called for AC 0 (VO) that'll
wake up the management TXQ (remember its tid is 16), and the
driver's wake_tx_queue() will be called. That tries to get a
frame, which will immediately *stop* the TXQ again, because
now we check against AC 2, and AC 2 hasn't yet been marked as
woken up again in sdata->vif.txqs_stopped[] since we're only
in the __ieee80211_wake_txqs() call for AC 0.
Thus, the management TXQ will never be started again.
Fix this by checking txq->ac directly instead of calculating
the AC as ieee80211_ac_from_tid(txq->tid).

Coverity reported the strange "if (~...)" condition that's

intended was a comparison to 0xff/0xffff (in HT/VHT cases

Change the comparison accordingly.
I'm guessing this never really mattered because a reset to

The biggest flaw in current minstrel_ht is the fact that it needs way too
many probing packets to be able to quickly find the best rate.
Depending on the wifi hardware and operating mode, this can significantly
reduce throughput when not operating at the highest available data rate.
In order to be able to significantly reduce the amount of rate sampling,
we need a much smarter selection of probing rates.
The new approach introduced by this patch maintains a limited set of
available rates to be tested during a statistics window.
They are split into distinct categories:
- MINSTREL_SAMPLE_TYPE_INC - incremental rate upgrade:
Pick the next rate group and find the first rate that is faster than
the current max. throughput rate
- MINSTREL_SAMPLE_TYPE_JUMP - random testing of higher rates:
Pick a random rate from the next group that is faster than the current
max throughput rate. This allows faster adaptation when the link changes
significantly
- MINSTREL_SAMPLE_TYPE_SLOW - test a rate between max_prob, max_tp2 and
max_tp in order to reduce the gap between them
In order to prioritize sampling, every 6 attempts are split into 3x INC,
2x JUMP, 1x SLOW.
Available rates are checked and refilled on every stats window update.
With this approach, we finally get a very small delta in throughput when
comparing setting the optimal data rate as a fixed rate vs normal rate
control operation.

This patch unifies sending control port frames
over nl80211 and AF_PACKET sockets a little more.
Before this patch, EAPOL frames got QoS prioritization
only when using AF_PACKET sockets.
__ieee80211_select_queue only selects a QoS-enabled queue
for control port frames, when the control port protocol
is set correctly on the skb. For the AF_PACKET path this
works, but the nl80211 path used ETH_P_802_3.
Another check for injected frames in wme.c then prevented
the QoS TID to be copied in the frame.
In order to fix this, get rid of the frame injection marking
for nl80211 ctrl port and set the correct ethernet protocol.
Please note:
An erlier version of this path tried to prevent
frame aggregation for control port frames in order to speed up
the initial connection setup a little. This seemed to cause
issues on my older Intel dvm-based hardware, and was therefore
removed again. Future commits which try to reintroduce this
have to check carefully how hw behaves with aggregated and
non-aggregated traffic for the same TID.

When CONFIG_ATH9K is built-in but LED support is in a loadable
module, both ath9k drivers fails to link:
x86_64-linux-ld: drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/gpio.o: in function `ath_deinit_leds':
gpio.c:(.text+0x36): undefined reference to `led_classdev_unregister'

The problem is that the 'imply' keyword does not enforce any dependency
but is only a weak hint to Kconfig to enable another symbol from a
defconfig file.
Change imply to a 'depends on LEDS_CLASS' that prevents the incorrect
configuration but still allows building the driver without LED support.
The 'select MAC80211_LEDS' is now ensures that the LED support is
actually used if it is present, and the added Kconfig dependency
on MAC80211_LEDS ensures that it cannot be enabled manually when it
has no effect.

syzbot reported a crash that happened when changing the interface
type around a lot, and while it might have been easy to fix just
the symptom there, a little deeper investigation found that really
the reason is that we allowed packets to be transmitted while in
the middle of changing the interface type.
Disallow TX by stopping the queues while changing the type.

Currently, _everything_ in cfg80211 holds the RTNL, and if you
have a slow USB device (or a few) you can get some bad lock
contention on that.
Fix that by re-adding a mutex to each wiphy/rdev as we had at
some point, so we have locking for the wireless_dev lists and
all the other things in there, and also so that drivers still
don't have to worry too much about it (they still won't get
parallel calls for a single device).
Then, we can restrict the RTNL to a few cases where we add or
remove interfaces and really need the added protection. Some
of the global list management still also uses the RTNL, since
we need to have it anyway for netdev management, but we only
hold the RTNL for very short periods of time here.

We used to not require anything in terms of registering netdevs
with cfg80211, using a netdev notifier instead. However, in the
next patch reducing RTNL locking, this causes big problems, and
the simplest way is to just require drivers to do things better.
Change the registration/unregistration semantics to require the
drivers to call cfg80211_(un)register_netdevice() when this is
happening due to a cfg80211 request, i.e. add_virtual_intf() or
del_virtual_intf() (or if it somehow has to happen in any other
cfg80211 callback).
Otherwise, in other contexts, drivers may continue to use the
normal netdev (un)registration functions as usual.
Internally, we still use the netdev notifier and track (by the
new wdev->registered bool) if the wdev had already been added
to cfg80211 or not.

On lower data rates, the throughput calculation has a significant rounding
error, causing rates like 48M and 54M OFDM to share the same throughput
value with >= 90% success probablity.
This is because the result of the division (prob_avg * 1000) / nsecs
is really small (8 in this example).
Improve accuracy by moving over some zeroes, making better use of the full
range of u32 before the division.

The legacy minstrel code is essentially unmaintained and receives only very
little testing. In order to bring the significant algorithm improvements from
minstrel_ht to legacy clients, this patch adds support for OFDM rates to
minstrel_ht and removes the fallback to the legacy codepath.
This also makes it work much better on hardware with rate selection constraints,
e.g. mt76.

This allows drivers to pass 802.3 frames to mac80211, with some restrictions:
- the skb must be passed with a valid sta
- fast-rx needs to be active for the sta
- monitor mode needs to be disabled
mac80211 will tell the driver when it is safe to enable rx decap offload for
a particular station.
In order to implement support, a driver must:
- call ieee80211_hw_set(hw, SUPPORTS_RX_DECAP_OFFLOAD)
- implement ops->sta_set_decap_offload
- mark 802.3 frames with RX_FLAG_8023
If it doesn't want to enable offload for some vif types, it can mask out
IEEE80211_OFFLOAD_DECAP_ENABLED in vif->offload_flags from within the
.add_interface or .update_vif_offload driver ops

A sorted flow list is only needed to drop packets in the biggest flow when
hitting the overmemory condition.
By scanning flows only when needed, we can avoid paying the cost of
maintaining the list under normal conditions

cache lines, a bitmap of flows with backlog is maintained
