Quit from splice_write if pipe->nrbufs is 0 for avoiding oops in virtio-serial.
When an application was doing splice from a kernel buffer to virtio-serial on
a guest, the application received signal(SIGINT). This situation will normally
happen, but the kernel executed a kernel panic by oops as follows:

It seems to induce pagefault in sg_init_tabel() when pipe->nrbufs is equal to
zero. This may happen in a following situation:
(1) The application normally does splice(read) from a kernel buffer, then does
splice(write) to virtio-serial.
(2) The application receives SIGINT when is doing splice(read), so splice(read)
is failed by EINTR. However, the application does not finish the operation.
(3) The application tries to do splice(write) without pipe->nrbufs.
(4) The virtio-console driver tries to touch scatterlist structure sgl in
sg_init_table(), but the region is out of bound.
To avoid the case, a kernel should check whether pipe->nrbufs is empty or not
when splice_write is executed in the virtio-console driver.

"Okay this is the big one, I was stalled on the fbdev pull req as I
stupidly let fbdev guys merge a patch I required to fix a warning with
some patches I had, they ended up merging the patch from the wrong
place, but the warning should be fixed. In future I'll just take the
patch myself!
Outside drm:
There are some snd changes for the HDMI audio interactions on haswell,
they've been acked for inclusion via my tree. This relies on the
wound/wait tree from Ingo which is already merged.
Major changes:
AMD finally released the dynamic power management code for all their
GPUs from r600->present day, this is great, off by default for now but
also a huge amount of code, in fact it is most of this pull request.
Since it landed there has been a lot of community testing and Alex has
sent a lot of fixes for any bugs found so far. I suspect radeon might
now be the biggest kernel driver ever :-P p.s. radeon.dpm=1 to enable
dynamic powermanagement for anyone.
New drivers:
Renesas r-car display unit.
Other highlights:
- core: GEM CMA prime support, use new w/w mutexs for TTM
reservations, cursor hotspot, doc updates
- dvo chips: chrontel 7010B support
- i915: Haswell (fbc, ips, vecs, watermarks, audio powerwell),
Valleyview (enabled by default, rc6), lots of pll reworking, 30bpp
support (this time for sure)
- nouveau: async buffer object deletion, context/register init
updates, kernel vp2 engine support, GF117 support, GK110 accel
support (with external nvidia ucode), context cleanups.
- exynos: memory leak fixes, Add S3C64XX SoC series support, device
tree updates, common clock framework support,
- qxl: cursor hotspot support, multi-monitor support, suspend/resume
support
- mgag200: hw cursor support, g200 mode limiting
- shmobile: prime support
- tegra: fixes mostly
I've been banging on this quite a lot due to the size of it, and it
seems to okay on everything I've tested it on."

/dev/oldmem provides the interface for us to access the "old memory" in
the dump-capture kernel. Unfortunately, no one actually uses this
interface.
And this interface could actually cause some real problems if used on ia64
where the cached/uncached accesses are mixed. See the discussion from the
link: https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/4/12/386.
So Eric suggested that we should remove /dev/oldmem as an unused piece of
code.

In fa1f68db6c ("drivers: misc: pass miscdevice pointer via file
private data"), the misc driver infrastructure was changed to assigned
file->private_data as a pointer to the 'struct miscdevice' that
corresponds to the device being opened.
However, this assignment was only done when the misc driver was
declaring a driver-specific ->open() operation in its
file_operations. This doesn't make sense, as the driver may not
necessarily have a custom ->open() operation, and might still be
interested in having file->private_data properly set for use in its
->read() and write() operations.
Therefore, we move the assignment of file->private_data outside of the
condition that tests whether a driver-specific ->open() operation was
defined.

Use the wrapper functions for getting and setting the driver data using

I'm not sure I understand the intent of the previous behavior. mmap
on /dev/agpgart and DRM_AGP maps had no cache flags set, so they
would be fully cacheable. But the DRM code (most of the time) would
add a write-combining MTRR that would change the effective memory
type to WC.
The new behavior just requests WC explicitly for all AGP maps.
If there is any code out there that expects cacheable access to the
AGP aperture (because the drm driver doesn't request an MTRR or
because it's using /dev/agpgart directly), then it will now end up
with a UC or WC mapping, depending on the architecture and PAT
availability. But cacheable access to the aperture seems like it's
asking for trouble, because, AIUI, the aperture is an alias of RAM.

Commit 902c098a36 ("random: use lockless techniques in the interrupt
path") turned IRQ path from being spinlock protected into lockless
cmpxchg-retry update.
That commit removed r->lock serialization between crediting entropy bits
from IRQ context and accounting when extracting entropy on userspace
read path, but didn't turn the r->entropy_count reads/updates in
account() to use cmpxchg as well.
It has been observed, that under certain circumstances this leads to
read() on /dev/urandom to return 0 (EOF), as r->entropy_count gets
corrupted and becomes negative, which in turn results in propagating 0
all the way from account() to the actual read() call.
Convert the accounting code to be the proper lockless counterpart of
what has been partially done by 902c098a36.

Commit ec8f02da9e ("random: prime last_data value per fips
requirements") added priming of last_data per fips requirements.
Unfortuantely, it did so in a way that can lead to multiple threads all
incrementing nbytes, but only one actually doing anything with the extra
data, which leads to some fun random corruption and panics.
The fix is to simply do everything needed to prime last_data in a single
shot, so there's no window for multiple cpus to increment nbytes -- in
fact, we won't even increment or decrement nbytes anymore, we'll just
extract the needed EXTRACT_SIZE one time per pool and then carry on with
the normal routine.
All these changes have been tested across multiple hosts and
architectures where panics were previously encoutered. The code changes
are are strictly limited to areas only touched when when booted in fips
mode.
This change should also go into 3.8-stable, to make the myriads of fips
users on 3.8.x happy.

Pull devm usage cleanup from Wolfram Sang:
"Lately, I have been experimenting how to improve the devm interface to
make writing device drivers easier and less error prone while also
getting rid of its subtle issues. I think it has more potential but
still needs work and definately conistency, especiall in its usage.
The first thing I come up with is a low hanging fruit regarding
devm_ioremap_resouce(). This function already checks if the passed
resource is valid and gives an error message if not. So, we can
remove similar checks from the drivers and get rid of a bit of code
and a number of inconsistent error strings.
This series only removes the unneeded check iff devm_ioremap_resource
follows platform_get_resource directly. The previous version tried to
shuffle code if needed, too, what lead to an embarrasing bug. It
turned out to me that shuffling code for all cases found will make the
automated script too complex, so I am unsure if an automated cleanup
is the proper tool for this case. Removing the easy stuff seems
worthwhile to me, though.
Despite various architectures and platform dependencies, I managed to
compile test 45 out of 57 modified files locally using heuristics and
defconfigs."

The patch fixes a problem in the lp driver that can cause oopses as
follows:
process A: calls lp_write, which in turn calls
parport_ieee1284_write_compat, and that invokes
parport_wait_peripheral
process B: meanwhile does an ioctl(LPGETSTATUS), which call
lp_release_parport when done. This function will set
physport->cad = NULL.
process A: parport_wait_peripheral tries to dereference
physport->cad and dies
So, protect that code with the port_mutex in order to protect against
simultaneous calls to lp_read/lp_write.
Similar protection is probably required for ioctl(LPRESET)...

If the TPM has already been sent a SaveState command before the driver
is loaded it may have problems sending that same command again later.
This issue is seen with the Chromebook Pixel due to a firmware bug in
the legacy mode boot path which is sending the SaveState command
before booting the kernel. More information is available at
http://crbug.com/203524
This change introduces a retry of the SaveState command in the suspend
path in order to work around this issue. A future firmware update
should fix this but this is also a trivial workaround in the driver
that has no effect on systems that do not show this problem.
When this does happen the TPM responds with a non-fatal TPM_RETRY code
that is defined in the specification:
The TPM is too busy to respond to the command immediately, but the
command could be resubmitted at a later time. The TPM MAY return
TPM_RETRY for any command at any time.
It can take several seconds before the TPM will respond again. I
measured a typical time between 3 and 4 seconds and the timeout is set
at a safe 5 seconds.
It is also possible to reproduce this with commands via /dev/tpm0.
The bug linked above has a python script attached which can be used to
test for this problem. I tested a variety of TPMs from Infineon,
Nuvoton, Atmel, and STMicro but was only able to reproduce this with
LPC and I2C TPMs from Infineon.
The TPM specification only loosely defines this behavior:
TPM Main Level 2 Part 3 v1.2 r116, section 3.3. TPM_SaveState:
The TPM MAY declare all preserved values invalid in response to any
command other than TPM_Init.
TCG PC Client BIOS Spec 1.21 section 8.3.1.
After issuing a TPM_SaveState command, the OS SHOULD NOT issue TPM
commands before transitioning to S3 without issuing another
TPM_SaveState command.
TCG PC Client TIS 1.21, section 4. Power Management:
The TPM_SaveState command allows a Static OS to indicate to the TPM
that the platform may enter a low power state where the TPM will be
required to enter into the D3 power state. The use of the term "may"
is significant in that there is no requirement for the platform to
actually enter the low power state after sending the TPM_SaveState
command. The software may, in fact, send subsequent commands after
sending the TPM_SaveState command.

Returning EMFILE (process has too many open files) is incorrect to
indicate a port is already open by another process. Use EBUSY for that.
This does change what we report to userspace, but I believe userspace
can look at it this way: it gets EBUSY, a new error code, instead of
EMFILE. It's still an error, and that's not changing.

This driver adds support for Infineon's new SLB 9645 TT 1.2 I2C TPMs,
which supports clockstretching, combined reads and a bus speed of
up to 400khz. The device also has a new device id.
The driver works now also fine with device trees, so you can
instantiate your device by adding:
+ tpm {
+ compatible = "infineon,slb9645tt";
+ reg = <0x20>;
+ };
for SLB 9645 devices or
+ tpm {
+ compatible = "infineon,slb9635tt";
+ reg = <0x20>;
+ };
for SLB 9635 devices
to your device tree.
tpm_i2c_infineon is also retained as a compatible id as a fallback to
slb9635 protocol.
The driver was tested on Beaglebone.

When multiple ovq operations are being performed (lots of open/close
operations on virtio_console fds), the __send_control_msg() function can
get confused without locking.
A simple recipe to cause badness is:
* create a QEMU VM with two virtio-serial ports
* in the guest, do
while true;do echo abc >/dev/vport0p1;done
while true;do echo edf >/dev/vport0p2;done
In one run, this caused a panic in __send_control_msg(). In another, I
got
virtio_console virtio0: control-o:id 0 is not a head!
This also results repeated messages similar to these on the host:
qemu-kvm: virtio-serial-bus: Unexpected port id 478762112 for device virtio-serial-bus.0
qemu-kvm: virtio-serial-bus: Unexpected port id 478762368 for device virtio-serial-bus.0

ASoC/extcon: arizona: Fix interaction between HPDET and headphone outputs
This patch series covers both ASoC and extcon subsystems and fixes an
interaction between the HPDET function and the headphone outputs - we
really shouldn't run HPDET while the headphone is active. The first
patch is a refactoring to make the extcon side easier.
Used PTR_RET function instead of IS_ERR and PTR_ERR.
Patch found using coccinelle.

This patch adds CONFIG_PM_SLEEP to suspend/resume functions to fix

Add CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME to suspend/resume functions to fix the build

random: fix locking dependency with the tasklist_lock
The code currently only supports one virtio-rng device at a time.
Invoking guests with multiple devices causes the guest to blow up.
Check if we've already registered and initialised the driver. Also
cleanup in case of registration errors or hot-unplug so that a new
device can be used.

virtio_rng feeds the randomness buffer handed by the core directly
into the scatterlist, since commit bb347d9807.
However, if CONFIG_HW_RANDOM=m, the static buffer isn't a linear address
(at least on most archs). We could fix this in virtio_rng, but it's actually
far easier to just do it in the core as virtio_rng would have to allocate
a buffer every time (it doesn't know how much the core will want to read).

Commit 6133705494 introduced a circular lock dependency because
posix_cpu_timers_exit() is called by release_task(), which is holding
a writer lock on tasklist_lock, and this can cause a deadlock since
kill_fasync() gets called with nonblocking_pool.lock taken.
There's no reason why kill_fasync() needs to be taken while the random
pool is locked, so move it out to fix this locking dependency.

The configuration change building ipmi_si into the kernel precludes the
use of a custom driver that can utilize more than one KCS interface,
multiple IPMBs, and more than one BMC. This capability is important for
fault-tolerant systems.
Even if the kernel option ipmi_si.trydefaults=0 is specified, ipmi_si
discovers and claims one of the KCS interfaces on a Stratus server. The
inability to now prevent the kernel from managing this device is a
regression from previous kernels. The regression breaks a capability
fault-tolerant vendors have relied upon.
To support both ACPI opregion access and the need to avoid activation of
ipmi_si on some platforms, we've added two new kernel options,
ipmi_si.tryacpi and ipmi_si.trydmi be added to prevent ipmi_si from
initializing when these options are set to 0 on the kernel command line.
With these options at the default value of 1, ipmi_si init proceeds
according to the kernel default.

The TIS specification (pg 47) says the valid bit must be set, but
the TPM will not set it until it has completed its internal startup.
The driver checks that the valid bit is set during request_locality,
but it issues a TPM_ACCESS_REQUEST_USE without validating the
valid bit is set.
Some TPMs will ignore the TPM_ACCESS_REQUEST_USE, until valid is
set which causes the request_locality to timeout, which breaks the
driver attach.
Wait one timeout unit for valid to assert. If valid does not assert
then assume -ENODEV.

On one of my machines the cancellation of TPM commands does not work.
The reason is that by writing into sysfs 'cancel' the tpm_tis_ready
call causes the status flag TPM_STS_VALID to be set in the statusregister.
However, the TIS driver seems to wait for TPM_STS_COMMAND_READY.
Once a 2nd time sysfs 'cancel' is written to, the TPM_STS_COMMAND_READY flag
also gets set, resulting in TPM_STS_VALID|TPM_STS_COMMAND_READY to be
read from the status register.
This patch now converts req_canceled into a function to enable more complex
comparisons against possible cancellation status codes.

We've been testing an alternative TPM for our embedded products and
found random kernel boot failures due to time outs after the continue
self test command.
This was happening randomly, and has been *very* hard to track down, but
it
looks like with this chip there is some kind of race with the
tpm_tis_status()
check of TPM_STS_COMMAND_READY. If things get there 'too fast' then
it sees the chip is ready, or tpm_tis_ready() works. Otherwise it takes
somewhere over 400ms before the chip will return TPM_STS_COMMAND_READY.
Adding some delay after tpm_continue_selftest() makes things reliably
hit the failure path, otherwise it is a crapshot.
The spec says it should be returning TPM_WARN_DOING_SELFTEST, not
holding
off on ready..
Boot log during this event looks like this:

This patch changes the semantics of the duration calculation for an
ordinal, by masking out the higher bits of a tpm command, which specify
whether it's an TPM_PROTECTED_COMMAND, TPM_UNPROTECTED_COMMAND,
TPM_CONNECTION_COMMAND, TPM_CONNECTION_COMMAND, TPM_VENDOR_COMMAND.
(See TPM Main Spec Part 2 Section 17 for details).
For all TPM_PROTECTED and TPM_CONNECTION commands the results are
unchanged.
The TPM_UNPROTECTED commands are TSS commands and thus irrelevant as
they are not sent to the tpm.
For vendor commands the semantics change for ordinals 10 and 11 but
they were probably wrong anyway.
For everything else which has the ordinal set to 10 or 11 the semantics
change as it now uses TPM_UNDEFINED instead of TPM_SHORT which was
probably wrong anyway (but irrelevant as not defined by the standard).
This patch also gets rid of the (false positive) smatch warning:

Dan Carpenter noticed a missing set of parentheses
around a multiple field addition.
https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/1/27/166
His original commit message:
There is a kind of precedence problem here, but it doesn't affect how
the code works because ->serial_signals is unsigned char. We want to
clear two flags here.
#define SerialSignal_RTS 0x20 /* Request to Send */
#define SerialSignal_DTR 0x80 /* Data Terminal Ready */
Without the parenthesis then it does:
info->serial_signals &= 0x5f;
With the parenthesis it does:
info->serial_signals &= 0xffffff5f;
info->serial_signals is an unsigned char so the two statements are
equivalent, but it's cleaner to add the parenthesis. In other dtr_rts()
functions the parenthesis are there so this makes it more consistent.
Other changes:
Convert all + uses to | for these bit operations.
Reorder the multiple fields for consistency.
Update the comments too.

abstract the decision we were handling in i915.
Aside from simpler code, removing another member for the intel_gtt

The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This
saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway.
bloat-o-meter output is below.
The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on
TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY
layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate
symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than
"depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies.

This change removes the use of __devinit, __devexit_p, __devinitdata,
__devinitconst, and __devexit from these drivers.
Based on patches originally written by Bill Pemberton, but redone by me
in order to handle some of the coding style issues better, by hand.

Latinoware 2012.
There's a slightly non-trivial merge in virtio-net, as we cleaned up the
virtio add_buf interface while DaveM accepted the mq virtio-net patches.
You can see my solution in my pending-rebases branch, if that helps, but I
know you love merging:

Refactoring the splice functionality by unifying the approach for
sending scatter-lists and regular buffers. This simplifies

that i.MX was converted in one of the earlier cleanup branches as
well (before we started a separate topic for multiplatform). And both

Here's the large driver core updates for 3.8-rc1.
The biggest thing here is the various __dev* marking removals. This is
going to be a pain for the merge with different subsystem trees, I know,
but all of the patches included here have been ACKed by their various
subsystem maintainers, as they wanted them to go through here.
If this is too much of a pain, I can pull all of them out of this tree
and just send you one with the other fixes/updates and then, after
3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all,
it's up to you. The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been
doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily.
Other than the __dev* marking removals, there's nothing major here, some
firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core.
All of these have (much to Stephen's annoyance), been in linux-next for
a while.

Merge 'block-dev' branch.
I was going to just mark everything here for stable and leave it to the
3.8 merge window, but having decided on doing another -rc, I migth as
well merge it now.
This removes the bd_block_size_semaphore semaphore that was added in
this release to fix a race condition between block size changes and
block IO, and replaces it with atomicity guaratees in fs/buffer.c
instead, along with simplifying fs/block-dev.c.
This removes more lines than it adds, makes the code generally simpler,
and avoids the latency/rt issues that the block size semaphore
introduced for mount.
I'm not happy with the timing, but it wouldn't be much better doing this
during the merge window and then having some delayed back-port of it
into stable.
* block-dev:
blkdev_max_block: make private to fs/buffer.c
direct-io: don't read inode->i_blkbits multiple times
blockdev: remove bd_block_size_semaphore again
fs/buffer.c: make block-size be per-page and protected by the page lock
This reverts the block-device direct access code to the previous
unlocked code, now that fs/buffer.c no longer needs external locking.
With this, fs/block_dev.c is back to the original version, apart from a
whitespace cleanup that I didn't want to revert.

After commit "TTY: move tty buffers to tty_port", the tty buffers are
not freed in some drivers. This is because tty_port_destructor is not
called whenever a tty_port is freed. This was an assumption I counted
with but was unfortunately untrue. So fix the drivers to fulfil this
assumption.
To be sure, the TTY buffers (and later some stuff) are gone along with
the tty_port, we have to call tty_port_destroy at tear-down places.
This is mostly where the structure containing a tty_port is freed.
This patch does exactly that -- put tty_port_destroy at those places.

As a quick hack we make the old intel_gtt structure mutable so we can
fool a bunch of the existing code which depends on elements in that data
structure. We can/should try to remove this in a subsequent patch.
This should preserve the old gtt init behavior which upon writing these
patches seems incorrect. The next patch will fix these things.
The one exception is VLV which doesn't have the preserved flush control
write behavior. Since we want to do that for all GEN6+ stuff, we'll
handle that in a later patch. Mainstream VLV support doesn't actually
exist yet anyway.

need to take an initial random sample, store it internally in last_data,
then pass along the value after that to the requester, so that consistency
checks aren't being run against stale and possibly known data.

This moves the MTU timer driver from arch/arm/plat-nomadik
to drivers/clocksource and moves the header file to the
platform_data directory.
As this moves the last file being compiled to an object out
of arch/arm/plat-nomadik, we have to "turn off the light"
and delete the plat-nomadik directory, because it is not
allowed to have an empty Makefile in a plat-* directory.
This is probably also a desired side effect of depopulating
the arch/arm directory of drivers. Luckily we have just
deleted all the <plat/*> include files prior to this so
by moving the last one we may delete the directory.
After this all the Ux500 and Nomadik device drivers live
outside of the arch/arm hierarchy.

Also the documents in platform.c shows that platform_device_del

The module parameter that turns debugging mode (which basically means
printing a few extra lines during runtime) is in '#if 0' block. Forcing
everyone who would like to see how entropy is behaving on his system to
rebuild seems to be a little bit too harsh.
If we were concerned about speed, we could potentially turn 'debug' into a
static key, but I don't think it's necessary.
Drop the '#if 0' block to allow using the 'debug' parameter without rebuilding.

Drivers should not use cpu_is_omap or cpu_class_is_omap macros,
they should be private to the platform init code. And we'll be
removing plat/cpu.h and only have a private soc.h for the
arch/arm/*omap* code.
This patch is intended as preparation for the core omap changes
and removes the need to include plat/cpu.h from several drivers.
This is needed for the ARM common zImage support.
These changes are OK to do because:
- omap-rng.c does not need plat/cpu.h
- omap-aes.c and omap-sham.c get the proper platform_data
passed to them so they don't need extra checks in the driver
- omap-dma.c and omap-pcm.c can test the arch locally as
omap1 and omap2 cannot be compiled together because of
conflicting compiler flags

We always update bytes_written before we check signal_pending so it
follows that we can't get a signal return for 0 bytes so we don't
need to check in the singal path. The cases a signal causes an earlier
abort are handled before this and will not hit this path

- Make bio_split() work on data-less bio's (like trim/discards).

Fixed up silent semantic mis-merge as per Mikulas Patocka and Andrew
Morton. It is due to the VM no longer using a prio-tree (see commit

tpm_write calls tpm_transmit without checking the return value and
assigns the return value unconditionally to chip->pending_data, even if
it's an error value.
This causes three bugs.
So if we write to /dev/tpm0 with a tpm_param_size bigger than
TPM_BUFSIZE=0x1000 (e.g. 0x100a)
and a bufsize also bigger than TPM_BUFSIZE (e.g. 0x100a)
tpm_transmit returns -E2BIG which is assigned to chip->pending_data as
-7, but tpm_write returns that TPM_BUFSIZE bytes have been successfully
been written to the TPM, altough this is not true (bug #1).
As we did write more than than TPM_BUFSIZE bytes but tpm_write reports
that only TPM_BUFSIZE bytes have been written the vfs tries to write
the remaining bytes (in this case 10 bytes) to the tpm device driver via
tpm_write which then blocks at
/* cannot perform a write until the read has cleared
either via tpm_read or a user_read_timer timeout */
while (atomic_read(&chip->data_pending) != 0)
msleep(TPM_TIMEOUT);
for 60 seconds, since data_pending is -7 and nobody is able to
read it (since tpm_read luckily checks if data_pending is greater than
0) (#bug 2).
After that the remaining bytes are written to the TPM which are
interpreted by the tpm as a normal command. (bug #3)
So if the last bytes of the command stream happen to be a e.g.
tpm_force_clear this gets accidentally sent to the TPM.
This patch fixes all three bugs, by propagating the error code of
tpm_write and returning -E2BIG if the input buffer is too big,
since the response from the tpm for a truncated value is bogus anyway.
Moreover it returns -EBUSY to userspace if there is a response ready to be
read.

This patch try to fix the S3 regression https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/10/5/433,
which includes below line:
[ 1554.684638] sysfs: cannot create duplicate filename '/devices/pnp0/00:0c/ppi'
The root cause is that ppi sysfs teardown code is MIA, so while S3 resume,
the ppi kobject will be created again upon existing one.
To make the tear down code simple, change the ppi subfolder creation from
using kobject_create_and_add to just using a named ppi attribute_group. Then
ppi sysfs teardown could be done with a simple sysfs_remove_group call.
Adjusted the name & return type for ppi sysfs init function.

A long time ago, in v2.4, VM_RESERVED kept swapout process off VMA,
currently it lost original meaning but still has some effects:
| effect | alternative flags
-+------------------------+---------------------------------------------
1| account as reserved_vm | VM_IO
2| skip in core dump | VM_IO, VM_DONTDUMP
3| do not merge or expand | VM_IO, VM_DONTEXPAND, VM_HUGETLB, VM_PFNMAP
4| do not mlock | VM_IO, VM_DONTEXPAND, VM_HUGETLB, VM_PFNMAP
This patch removes reserved_vm counter from mm_struct. Seems like nobody
cares about it, it does not exported into userspace directly, it only
reduces total_vm showed in proc.
Thus VM_RESERVED can be replaced with VM_IO or pair VM_DONTEXPAND | VM_DONTDUMP.
remap_pfn_range() and io_remap_pfn_range() set VM_IO|VM_DONTEXPAND|VM_DONTDUMP.
remap_vmalloc_range() set VM_DONTEXPAND | VM_DONTDUMP.

This branch contains updates to OMAP and Marvell platforms (kirkwood,
dove, mvebu) that came in after we had done the big multiplatform merges,
so they were kept separate from the rest, and not separated into the
traditional topics of cleanup/driver/platform features.
For OMAP, the updates are:
- Runtime PM conversions for the GPMC and RNG IP blocks
- Preparation patches for the OMAP common clock framework conversion
- clkdev alias additions required by other drivers
- Performance Monitoring Unit (PMU) support for OMAP2, 3, and non-4430 OMAP4
- OMAP hwmod code and data improvements
- Preparation patches for the IOMMU runtime PM conversion
- Preparation patches for OMAP4 full-chip retention support
For Kirkwood/Dove/mvebu:
- New driver for "address decoder controller" for mvebu, which
is a piece of hardware that configures addressable devices and
peripherals. First user is the boot rom aperture on armada XP since
it is needed for SMP support.
- New device tree bindings for peripherals such as gpio-fan, iconnect
nand, mv_cesa and the above address decoder controller.
- Some defconfig updates, mostly to enable new DT boards and a few drivers.
- New drivers using the pincontrol subsystem for dove, kirkwood and mvebu
- New clean gpio driver for mvebu

Pull workqueue changes from Tejun Heo:
"This is workqueue updates for v3.7-rc1. A lot of activities this
round including considerable API and behavior cleanups.
* delayed_work combines a timer and a work item. The handling of the
timer part has always been a bit clunky leading to confusing
cancelation API with weird corner-case behaviors. delayed_work is
updated to use new IRQ safe timer and cancelation now works as
expected.
* Another deficiency of delayed_work was lack of the counterpart of
mod_timer() which led to cancel+queue combinations or open-coded
timer+work usages. mod_delayed_work[_on]() are added.
These two delayed_work changes make delayed_work provide interface
and behave like timer which is executed with process context.
* A work item could be executed concurrently on multiple CPUs, which
is rather unintuitive and made flush_work() behavior confusing and
half-broken under certain circumstances. This problem doesn't
exist for non-reentrant workqueues. While non-reentrancy check
isn't free, the overhead is incurred only when a work item bounces
across different CPUs and even in simulated pathological scenario
the overhead isn't too high.
All workqueues are made non-reentrant. This removes the
distinction between flush_[delayed_]work() and
flush_[delayed_]_work_sync(). The former is now as strong as the
latter and the specified work item is guaranteed to have finished
execution of any previous queueing on return.
* In addition to the various bug fixes, Lai redid and simplified CPU
hotplug handling significantly.
* Joonsoo introduced system_highpri_wq and used it during CPU
hotplug.
There are two merge commits - one to pull in IRQ safe timer from
tip/timers/core and the other to pull in CPU hotplug fixes from
wq/for-3.6-fixes as Lai's hotplug restructuring depended on them."
Fixed a number of trivial conflicts, but the more interesting conflicts
were silent ones where the deprecated interfaces had been used by new
code in the merge window, and thus didn't cause any real data conflicts.
Tejun pointed out a few of them, I fixed a couple more.

As we skipped the merge window for 3.6-rc1 for the tty tree, everything
is now settled down and working properly, so we are ready for 3.7-rc1.
Here's the patchset, it's big, but the large changes are removing a
firmware file and adding a staging tty driver (it depended on the tty
core changes, so it's going through this tree instead of the staging
tree.)
All of these patches have been in the linux-next tree for a while.
