Bjorn Helgaas 6c777e8799 Revert "PCI, x86: Implement pcibios_alloc_irq() and pcibios_free_irq()"
991de2e590 ("PCI, x86: Implement pcibios_alloc_irq() and
pcibios_free_irq()") appeared in v4.3 and helps support IOAPIC hotplug.

Олег reported that the Elcus-1553 TA1-PCI driver worked in v4.2 but not
v4.3 and bisected it to 991de2e590.  Sunjin reported that the RocketRAID
272x driver worked in v4.2 but not v4.3.  In both cases booting with
"pci=routirq" is a workaround.

I think the problem is that after 991de2e590, we no longer call
pcibios_enable_irq() for upstream bridges.  Prior to 991de2e590, when a
driver called pci_enable_device(), we recursively called
pcibios_enable_irq() for upstream bridges via pci_enable_bridge().

After 991de2e590, we call pcibios_enable_irq() from pci_device_probe()
instead of the pci_enable_device() path, which does *not* call
pcibios_enable_irq() for upstream bridges.

Revert 991de2e590 to fix these driver regressions.

There is BIOS code relying on the fact that \_SB._INI should get evaluated
before any other control methods. This may implies a gap in ACPICA/Linux
initialization/enumeration process.

Before revealing Windows true behavior by more validations, this patch only
ensures \_SB._INI evaluated before any _REG control methods. This can help

Lv Zheng 9559130b11 ACPICA: ACPICA: Tune _REG evaluations order in the initialization steps

This patch tunes _REG evaluations to be later than all table loading
facilities:
1. acpi_load_tables(): _REG is currently invoked after this function.
2. acpi_ns_exec_module_code_list(): this executes module level code, the
   execution should be a part of the table loading while we currently
   support this in a deferred way.
3. acpi_ns_initialize_objects(): this parses Region/Field/Buffer/Package where
   pkg_length primitive can be seen in the grammar, the parsing should be a
   part of the table loading while we currently support this in a deferred
   way.
Control method evaluation should happen after loading the tables. So this
patch changes the order of _REG evaluation when
acpi_gbl_group_module_level_code experiment is enabled. Lv Zheng.

It is proven that the default regions should be accessible during the
table loading in order to execute module level AML code.
This patch moves default region handler installation code earlier in
order to make this happen.
Note that by putting the code here, we actually allow OSPMs to override
default region handlers between acpi_initialize_subsystem() and
acpi_load_tables(), without the need to introduce region handler override
mechanism in acpi_install_address_space_handler(). OSPMs are also couraged
to check acpi_install_address_space_handler() return value to determine if
acpi_remove_address_space_handler() should be invoked before installing new

Sudeep Holla 504997cf96 ACPI / sleep: move acpi_processor_sleep to sleep.c
acpi_processor_sleep is neither related nor used by CPUIdle framework.
It's used in system suspend/resume path as a syscore operation. It makes
more sense to move it to acpi/sleep.c where all the S-state transition
(a.k.a. Linux system suspend/hiberate) related code are present.

Also make it depend on CONFIG_ACPI_SYSTEM_POWER_STATES_SUPPORT so that
it's not compiled on architecture like ARM64 where S-states are not
yet defined in ACPI.

Sudeep Holla db62fda318 ACPI / processor : add support for ACPI0010 processor container
ACPI 6.0 adds support for optional processor container device which may
contain child objects that are either processor devices or other processor
containers. This allows representing hierarchical processor topologies.

It is declared using the _HID of ACPI0010. It is an abstract container
used to represent CPU topology and should not be used to hotplug
purposes.

If no matching handler is found for a device in acpi_scan_attach_handler,
acpi_bus_attach does a default enumeration for those devices with valid
HID in the acpi namespace. This patch adds a scan handler for these ACPI
processor containers to avoid default that enumeration and ensures the
platform devices are not created for them.

Dan Williams 747ffe11b4 libnvdimm, tools/testing/nvdimm: fix 'ars_status' output buffer sizing
Use the output length specified in the command to size the receive
buffer rather than the arbitrary 4K limit.

This bug was hiding the fact that the ndctl implementation of
ndctl_bus_cmd_new_ars_status() was not specifying an output buffer size.

Dan Williams 6697b2cf69 nfit: fix multi-interface dimm handling, acpi6.1 compatibility
ACPI 6.1 clarified that multi-interface dimms require multiple control
region entries (DCRs) per dimm.  Previously we were assuming that a
control region is only present when block-data-windows are present.
This implementation was done with an eye to be compatibility with the
looser ACPI 6.0 interpretation of this table.

1/ When coalescing the memory device (MEMDEV) tables for a single dimm,
coalesce on device_handle rather than control region index.

2/ Whenever we disocver a control region with non-zero block windows
re-scan for block-data-window (BDW) entries.

We may need to revisit this if a DIMM ever implements a format interface
outside of blk or pmem, but that is not on the foreseeable horizon.

Graeme Gregory 6ce2e188a6 ACPI / scan: AMBA bus probing support
On ARM64 some devices use the AMBA device and not the platform bus for
probing so add support for this. Uses a dummy clock for apb_pclk as ACPI
does not have a suitable clock representation and to keep the core
AMBA bus code unchanged between probing methods.

Toshi Kani 4650bac1fc ACPI/EINJ: Allow memory error injection to NVDIMM
In the case of memory error injection, einj_error_inject()
checks if a target address is System RAM. Change this check to
allow injecting a memory error into NVDIMM memory by calling
region_intersects() with IORES_DESC_PERSISTENT_MEMORY. This
enables memory error testing on both System RAM and NVDIMM.

In addition, page_is_ram() is replaced with region_intersects()
with IORESOURCE_SYSTEM_RAM, so that it can verify a target
address range with the requested size.

The quirk to get "acpi_backlight=vendor" behavior by default on the
Dell Inspiron 5737 was added before we started doing
"acpi_backlight=native" by default on Win8 ready machines.

Since we now avoid using acpi-video as backlight driver on these machines
by default (using the native driver instead) we no longer need this quirk.

Moreover the vendor driver does not work after a suspend/resume where
as the native driver does.

This reverts commit 08a56226d8 (ACPI / video: Add Dell Inspiron 5737
to the blacklist).

There are many locations that do

  if (memory_was_allocated_by_vmalloc)
    vfree(ptr);
  else
    kfree(ptr);

but kvfree() can handle both kmalloc()ed memory and vmalloc()ed memory
using is_vmalloc_addr().  Unless callers have special reasons, we can
replace this branch with kvfree().  Please check and reply if you found
problems.

On systems with an intel video opcode region, the completion used in the
patch this commit reverts will only complete if the i915 driver loads.

If for some reason the i915 driver never loads calls to
acpi_video_handles_brightness_key_presses() may be delayed indefinitely.

This reverts commit aecbd9b1bf ("ACPI / video: driver must be registered
before checking for keypresses") fixing this.

This reintroduces a potential NULL pointer deref due to using an
uninitalized mutex, this is fixed differently in a follow-up patch.

Andy Lutomirski f972799969 ACPI / fan: Improve acpi_device_update_power error message
On my laptop, I see "Setting initial power state" on boot.  It's a
firmware bug on my laptop, but the message made me think that the
initial power state was bogus and the driver fixed it.  The error
actually means that the driver failed to set the initial power
state.  Fix the message.

Vishal Verma 0caeef63e6 libnvdimm: Add a poison list and export badblocks
During region creation, perform Address Range Scrubs (ARS) for the SPA
(System Physical Address) ranges to retrieve known poison locations from
firmware. Add a new data structure 'nd_poison' which is used as a list
in nvdimm_bus to store these poison locations.

When creating a pmem namespace, if there is any known poison associated
with its physical address space, convert the poison ranges to bad sectors
that are exposed using the badblocks interface.

Tomeu Vizoso 989561de9b PM / Domains: add setter for dev.pm_domain
Adds a function that sets the pointer to dev_pm_domain in struct device
and that warns if the device has already finished probing. The reason
why we want to enforce that is because in the general case that can
cause problems and also that we can simplify code quite a bit if we can
always assume that.

This patch also changes all current code that directly sets the
dev.pm_domain pointer.

This is a third approach to workaround long standing issue with LPSS on
BayTrail. First one [1] was reverted since it didn't resolve the issue
comprehensively. Second one [2] was rejected by internal review.

The LPSS DMA controller does not have neither _PS0 nor _PS3 method. Moreover it
can be powered off automatically whenever the last LPSS device goes down. In
case of no power any access to the DMA controller will hang the system. The
behaviour is reproduced on some HP laptops based on Intel BayTrail [3,4] as
well as on ASuS T100TA transformer.

Power on the LPSS island through the registers accessible in a specific way.

acpi_video_handles_brightness_key_presses() may use an uninitialized mutex.
The error has been reported by lockdep: DEBUG_LOCKS_WARN_ON(l->magic != l).
The function assumes that the video driver has been registered before being
called. As explained in the comment of acpi_video_init(), the registration
of the video class may be defered and thus may not take place in the init
function of the module.

Use completion mechanisms to make sure that
acpi_video_handles_brightness_key_presses() wait for the completion of
acpi_video_register() before using the mutex.
Also get rid of register_count since task completion can replace it.

Rafael J. Wysocki e3e9b577b4 ACPICA: Drop Linux-specific waking vector functions
Commit f06147f9fb (ACPICA: Hardware: Enable firmware waking vector
for both 32-bit and 64-bit FACS) added three functions that aren't
present in upstream ACPICA, acpi_hw_set_firmware_waking_vectors(),
acpi_set_firmware_waking_vectors() and acpi_set_firmware_waking_vector64(),
to allow Linux to use the previously existing API for setting the
platform firmware waking vector.

However, that wasn't necessary, since the ACPI sleep support code
in Linux can be modified to use the upstream ACPICA's API easily
and the additional functions may be dropped which reduces the code
size and puts the kernel's ACPICA code more in line with the upstream.

Make the changes as per the above.  While at it, make the relevant
function desctiption comments reflect the upstream ACPICA's ones.

It is likely that we should synchronously invoke _REG(DISCONNECT) only when
the acpi_remove_address_space_handler() is invoked because of dependencies.
If it is invoked when the object is not referenced, problem may occur
if the operation region fields accessed in _REG are no longer driven by any
device driver.

Noticed that _REG(CONNECT)/_REG(DISCONNECT) only mean to inform the AML of
the handler availability, no return value is required for the caller.

This patch only introduces ACPI_REG_DISCONNECT invaocation, but doesn't

   acpi_gbl_reg_methods_executed.
2. If _REG(CONNECT) has never been evalauted for the region object,
   _REG(DISCONNECT) evaluations are blocked. This is achieved by a new
   region object flag: AOPOBJ_REG_CONNECTED.
Note that, after applying this patch, we can ensure _REG(DISCONNECT) is

Lv Zheng 2e1beaf6a9 ACPICA: Utilities: Reorder initialization code
ACPICA commit 3894fa9d071343e6ebc7ea480255fa4f27a290be

This patch re-orders initialization code in acpi_enable_subsystem()
so that all hardware reduced stuffs can be collected together.

Note this patch contains code from the following 2 ACPICA upstream commits
so that the changes can be made clearer for the reviewers:

The address space handlers can be attached to not only Device but also
Processor/thermal_zone objects, so it is better to use their common

The grammar for this operator changed in ACPI 5.0A, but it was
not necessary to update the interpreter/parser until now.

The UserTerm (method invocation) element was removed. Previously
a SuperName, the lone argument now requires a new ARGP_ type.

Bob Moore ae90fbf562 ACPICA: Parser: Fix for SuperName method invocation

SuperName parameters that are in fact control method invocations were
not handled correctly by the parser. This change fixes the problem
by identifying these properly as method invocations. This affects
about 14 different ASL operators that contain SuperName parameters.

Bob Moore 8d0b5b788f ACPICA: iasl/Disassembler: Support ASL ElseIf operator
ACPICA commit 918a840d27d620942e0ecb69de320bb71ea86c5a

ElseIf is a macro that resolves to an Else..If in the AML byte code.
This support merges an Else followed immediately by an If to an
ASL ElseIf operator. Simplifies decoded ASL, especially for large
Switch statements.

This patch only applies to iasl, and is no-op for Linux kernel.

Colin Ian King adeb79dd6e ACPICA: Tools: Add spacing and missing options in acpibin tool

Lv Zheng ee387409ca ACPICA: Namespace: Add String -> ObjectReference conversion support
ACPICA commit 80e60d72959bb51c5d08c8500d978607a42ed81d

BIOS developers may accidently put the quotes around the name strings,
which converts the object references in the packages indicated by the name
strings into the data objects (strings). Such kind of error has been seen
in _DEP control methods on some platforms. This patch implements a
workaround to correct it. Reported by Bastien Nocera. Fixed by Lv Zheng.

This reverts commit 8e7a8753827660c3dd1f571f3185610402b756f0.

The _SUB method was found to be problematic for this interface
because some implementations use control methods. Therefore,
it is being removed.

Operations cannot be used because this interface is called
during the device discovery scan and the region handlers are
not fully installed at that time.
