The cpu flags and pt_regs flags fields are each 64 bits in size. A flag can
be set with helper functions like set_cpu_flags().
These functions create a mask using "1U << flag". This doesn't work if flag
is larger than 31, since 1U << 32 == 0.
So fix this in case we ever will have such flag numbers.

When using systemtap it was observed that our udelay implementation is
rather suboptimal if being called from a kprobe handler installed by
systemtap.
The problem observed when a kprobe was installed on lock_acquired().
When the probe was hit the kprobe handler did call udelay, which set
up an (internal) timer and reenabled interrupts (only the clock comparator
interrupt) and waited for the interrupt.
This is an optimization to avoid that the cpu is busy looping while waiting
that enough time passes. The problem is that the interrupt handler still
does call irq_enter()/irq_exit() which then again can lead to a deadlock,
since some accounting functions may take locks as well.
If one of these locks is the same, which caused lock_acquired() to be
called, we have a nice deadlock.
This patch reworks the udelay code for the interrupts disabled case to
immediately leave the low level interrupt handler when the clock
comparator interrupt happens. That way no C code is being called and the
deadlock cannot happen anymore.

The program parameter can be used to mark hardware samples with
some token. Previously, it was used to mark guest samples only.
Improve the program parameter doubleword by combining two parts,
the leftmost LPP part and the rightmost PID part. Set the PID
part for processes by using the task PID.
To distinguish host and guest samples for the kernel (PID part
is zero), the guest must always set the program paramater to a
non-zero value. Use the leftmost bit in the LPP part of the
program parameter to be able to detect guest kernel samples.

Various functions in entry.S perform test-under-mask instructions
to test for particular bits in memory. Because test-under-mask uses
a mask value of one byte, the mask value and the offset into the
memory must be calculated manually. This easily introduces errors
and is hard to review and read.
Introduce the TSTMSK assembler macro to specify a mask constant and
let the macro calculate the offset and the byte mask to generate a
test-under-mask instruction. The benefit is that existing symbolic
constants can now be used for tests. Also the macro checks for
zero mask values and mask values that consist of multiple bytes.

Previously, the init task did not have an allocated FPU save area and
saving an FPU state was not possible. Now if the vector extension is
always enabled, provide a static FPU save area to save FPU states of
vector instructions that can be executed quite early.

If the kernel detects that the s390 hardware supports the vector
facility, it is enabled by default at an early stage. To force
it off, use the novx kernel parameter. Note that there is a small
time window, where the vector facility is enabled before it is
forced to be off.
With enabling the vector facility by default, the FPU save and
restore functions can be improved. They do not longer require
to manage expensive control register updates to enable or disable
the vector enablement control for particular processes.

The call to pgste_set_key in ptep_set_access_flags can be avoided
if the old pte is found to be valid at the time the new access
rights are set. The function that created the old, valid pte already
completed the required storage key operation.

The principles of operation states reads are in order, writes are in
order, writes can be reordered after reads, but no reads can be
reordered after writes.
The atomic and bitops variantes for z196 use the interlocked-access
facility instructions with a memory barrier before and after the
instruction. Because of the memory ordering the first barrier is
unnecessary and can be removed.

The generic implementation for test_and_set_bit_lock in include/asm-generic
uses the standard test_and_set_bit operation. This is done with either a
'csg' or a 'loag' instruction. For both version the cache line is fetched
exclusively, even if the bit is already set. The result is an increase in
cache traffic, for a contented lock this is a bad idea.

By definition (see memory-barrier.txt) read barriers orders
reads vs reads and write barriers orders writes agains writes.
but neither of these orders reads vs. writes.
That means we can implement smp_wmb,smp_rmb,wmb and rmb as
simple compiler barriers. To avoid reviewing all driver code
for correct barrier usage we keep dma_[rw]mb as serialization
for now.

By definition smp_wmb only orders writes against writes. (Finish all
previous writes, and do not start any future write). To protect the
vdso init code against early reads on other CPUs, let's use a full
smp_mb at the end of vdso init. As right now smp_wmb is implemented
as full serialization, this needs no stable backport, but this change
will be necessary if we reimplement smp_wmb.

_raw_write_lock_wait first sets the high order bit to indicate a
pending writer and then waits for the reader to drop to zero.
smp_rmb by definition only orders reads against reads. Let's use
a full smp_mb instead. As right now smp_rmb is implemented
as full serialization, this needs no stable backport, but this
patch will be necessary if we reimplement smp_rmb.

Let's factor this out and always use get_tod_clock_fast() when
reading the guest TOD.
STORE CLOCK FAST does not do serialization and, therefore, might
result in some fuzziness between different processors in a way
that subsequent calls on different CPUs might have time stamps that
are earlier. This semantics is fine though for all KVM use cases.
To make it obvious that the new function has STORE CLOCK FAST
semantics we name it kvm_s390_get_tod_clock_fast.
With this patch, we only have a handful of places were we
have to care about STP sync (using preempt_disable() logic).

Let's move that whole logic into one function. We now always use unsigned
values when calculating the epoch (to avoid over/underflow defined).
Also, we always have to get all VCPUs out of SIE before doing the update
to avoid running differing VCPUs with different TODs.

Nobody except early.c makes use of store_tod_clock() to handle the
cc. So if we would get a cc != 0, we would be in more trouble.
Let's replace all users with get_tod_clock(). Returning a cc
on an ioctl sounded strange either way.
We can now also easily move the get_tod_clock() call into the
preempt_disable() section. This is in fact necessary to make the
STP sync work as expected. Otherwise the host TOD could change
and we would end up with a wrong epoch calculation.

PER events can always co-exist with other program interrupts.
For now, we always overwrite all program interrupt parameters when
injecting any type of program interrupt.
Let's handle that correctly by only overwriting the relevant portion of
the program interrupt parameters. Therefore we can now inject PER events
and ordinary program interrupts concurrently, resulting in no loss of
program interrupts. This will especially by helpful when manually detecting
PER events later - as both types might be triggered during one SIE exit.

The main reason to keep program injection in kernel separated until now
was that we were able to do some checking, if really only the owning
thread injects program interrupts (via waitqueue_active(li->wq)).
This BUG_ON was never triggered and the chances of really hitting it, if
another thread injected a program irq to another vcpu, were very small.
Let's drop this check and turn kvm_s390_inject_program_int() and
kvm_s390_inject_prog_irq() into simple inline functions that makes use of
kvm_s390_inject_vcpu().
__must_check can be dropped as they are implicitely given by
kvm_s390_inject_vcpu(), to avoid ugly long function prototypes.

Pull strscpy string copy function implementation from Chris Metcalf.
Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on
the pull request, which is why it's going in only now.
The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure
than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty
interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems.
strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an
overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with
zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers.
strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking
the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value
which returns the original length of the source string. Which means
that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and
you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes
error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily
subtle.
strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination
(but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and
making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also
doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for
untrusted source data too.
So why did I waffle about this for so long?
Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing
these interminable series of trivial conversion patches.
And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the
conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse.
Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention
span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches
of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested.
So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface.
But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in
places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things
that aren't actually known to be broken.

As we need to add further flags to the bpf_prog structure, lets migrate
both bools to a bitfield representation. The size of the base structure
(excluding insns) remains unchanged at 40 bytes.
Add also tags for the kmemchecker, so that it doesn't throw false
positives. Even in case gcc would generate suboptimal code, it's not
being accessed in performance critical paths.

my gcc 5.1 used an ldgr instruction with a register != 0,2,4,6 for
spilling/filling into a floating point register in our decompressor.
This will cause an AFP-register data exception as the decompressor
did not setup the additional floating point registers via cr0.
That causes a program check loop that looked like a hang with
one "Uncompressing Linux... " message (directly booted via kvm)
or a loop of "Uncompressing Linux... " messages (when booted via
zipl boot loader).
The offending code in my build was

We observed some performance degradation on s390x with dynamic

A couple of compat wrapper functions are simply trampolines to the real
system call. This happened because the compat wrapper defines will only
sign and zero extend system call parameters which are of different size
on s390/s390x (longs and pointers).
All other parameters will be correctly sign and zero extended by the
normal system call wrappers.

The scaled cputime is supposed to be derived from the normal per-thread
cputime by dividing it with the average thread density in the last interval.
The calculation of the scaling values for the average thread density is
incorrect. The current, incorrect calculation:
Ci = cycle count with i active threads
T = unscaled cputime, sT = scaled cputime
sT = T * (C1 + C2 + ... + Cn) / (1*C1 + 2*C2 + ... + n*Cn)
The calculation happens to yield the correct numbers for the simple cases
with only one Ci value not zero. But for cases with multiple Ci values not
zero it fails. E.g. on a SMT-2 system with one thread active half the time
and two threads active for the other half of the time it fails, the scaling
factor should be 3/4 but the formula gives 2/3.
The correct formula is
sT = T * (C1/1 + C2/2 + ... + Cn/n) / (C1 + C2 + ... + Cn)

Previously, the cpum_cf PMU returned -EPERM if a counter is requested and
the counter set to which the counter belongs is not authorized. According
to the perf_event_open() system call manual, an error code of EPERM indicates
an unsupported exclude setting or CAP_SYS_ADMIN is missing.
Use ENOENT to indicate that particular counters are not available when the
counter set which contains the counter is not authorized. For generic events,
this might trigger a fall back, for example, to a software event.

The uc_sigmask in the ucontext structure is an array of words to keep
the 64 signal bits (or 1024 if you ask glibc but the kernel sigset_t
only has 64 bits).
For 64 bit the sigset_t contains a single 8 byte word, but for 31 bit
there are two 4 byte words. The compat signal handler code uses a
simple copy of the 64 bit sigset_t to the 31 bit compat_sigset_t.
As s390 is a big-endian architecture this is incorrect, the two words
in the 31 bit sigset_t array need to be swapped.

The critical section cleanup code misses to add the offset of the
thread_struct to the task address.
Therefore, if the critical section code gets executed, it may corrupt
the task struct or restore the contents of the floating point registers
from the wrong memory location.

The swsusp_arch_suspend()/swsusp_arch_resume() functions currently only
save and restore the floating point registers. If the task that started
the hibernation process is using vector registers they can get lost.
To fix this just call save_fpu_regs in swsusp_arch_suspend(), the restore
will happen automatically on return to user space.

The offending commit accidentally replaces an atomic_clear with an
atomic_or instead of an atomic_andnot in kvm_s390_vcpu_request_handled.
The symptom is that kvm guests on s390 hang on startup.

This new statistic can help diagnosing VCPUs that, for any reason,
trigger bad behavior of halt_poll_ns autotuning.
For example, say halt_poll_ns = 480000, and wakeups are spaced exactly
like 479us, 481us, 479us, 481us. Then KVM always fails polling and wastes
10+20+40+80+160+320+480 = 1110 microseconds out of every
479+481+479+481+479+481+479 = 3359 microseconds. The VCPU then
is consuming about 30% more CPU than it would use without
polling. This would show as an abnormally high number of
attempted polling compared to the successful polls.

We currently use PERF_EVENT_TXN flag to determine if we are in the middle
of a transaction. If in a transaction, we defer the schedulability checks
from pmu->add() operation to the pmu->commit() operation.
Now that we have "transaction types" (PERF_PMU_TXN_ADD, PERF_PMU_TXN_READ)
we can use the type to determine if we are in a transaction and drop the
PERF_EVENT_TXN flag.
When PERF_EVENT_TXN is dropped, the cpuhw->group_flag on some architectures
becomes unused, so drop that field as well.
This is an extension of the Powerpc patch from Peter Zijlstra to s390,
Sparc and x86 architectures.

Currently, the PMU interface allows reading only one counter at a time.
But some PMUs like the 24x7 counters in Power, support reading several
counters at once. To leveage this functionality, extend the transaction
interface to support a "transaction type".
The first type, PERF_PMU_TXN_ADD, refers to the existing transactions,
i.e. used to _schedule_ all the events on the PMU as a group. A second
transaction type, PERF_PMU_TXN_READ, will be used in a follow-on patch,
by the 24x7 counters to read several counters at once.
Extend the transaction interfaces to the PMU to accept a 'txn_flags'
parameter and use this parameter to ignore any transactions that are
not of type PERF_PMU_TXN_ADD.

Almost everyone implements dma_set_mask the same way, although some time
that's hidden in ->set_dma_mask methods.
This patch consolidates those into a common implementation that either
calls ->set_dma_mask if present or otherwise uses the default
implementation. Some architectures used to only call ->set_dma_mask
after the initial checks, and those instance have been fixed to do the
full work. h8300 implemented dma_set_mask bogusly as a no-ops and has
been fixed.
Unfortunately some architectures overload unrelated semantics like changing
the dma_ops into it so we still need to allow for an architecture override
for now.

Most architectures just call into ->dma_supported, but some also return 1
if the method is not present, or 0 if no dma ops are present (although
that should never happeb). Consolidate this more broad version into
common code.
Also fix h8300 which inorrectly always returned 0, which would have been
a problem if it's dma_set_mask implementation wasn't a similarly buggy
noop.
As a few architectures have much more elaborate implementations, we
still allow for arch overrides.

Currently there are three valid implementations of dma_mapping_error:
(1) call ->mapping_error
(2) check for a hardcoded error code
(3) always return 0
This patch provides a common implementation that calls ->mapping_error
if present, then checks for DMA_ERROR_CODE if defined or otherwise
returns 0.

Most architectures do not support non-coherent allocations and either
define dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent to their coherent versions or stub
them out.
Openrisc uses dma_{alloc,free}_attrs to implement them, and only Mips
implements them directly.
This patch moves the Openrisc version to common code, and handles the
DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT case in the mips dma_map_ops instance.
Note that actual non-coherent allocations require a dma_cache_sync
implementation, so if non-coherent allocations didn't work on
an architecture before this patch they still won't work after it.

Since 2009 we have a nice asm-generic header implementing lots of DMA API
functions for architectures using struct dma_map_ops, but unfortunately
it's still missing a lot of APIs that all architectures still have to
duplicate.
This series consolidates the remaining functions, although we still need
arch opt outs for two of them as a few architectures have very
non-standard implementations.
This patch (of 5):
The coherent DMA allocator works the same over all architectures supporting
dma_map operations.
This patch consolidates them and converges the minor differences:
- the debug_dma helpers are now called from all architectures, including
those that were previously missing them
- dma_alloc_from_coherent and dma_release_from_coherent are now always
called from the generic alloc/free routines instead of the ops
dma-mapping-common.h always includes dma-coherent.h to get the defintions
for them, or the stubs if the architecture doesn't support this feature
- checks for ->alloc / ->free presence are removed. There is only one
magic instead of dma_map_ops without them (mic_dma_ops) and that one
is x86 only anyway.
Besides that only x86 needs special treatment to replace a default devices
if none is passed and tweak the gfp_flags. An optional arch hook is provided
for that.

the new buffer is at 0x46fe000000ULL, decompressor_gzip is using
0xffffffb901ffffff as out_len. gunzip in lib/zlib_inflate/inflate.c cap
that len to 0x01ffffff and decompress fails later.
We could hit this problem with crashkernel booting that uses kexec loading
kernel above 4GiB.
We have decompress_* support:
1. inbuf[]/outbuf[] for kernel preboot.
2. inbuf[]/flush() for initramfs
3. fill()/flush() for initrd.
This bug only affect kernel preboot path that use outbuf[].
Add __decompress and take real out_buf_len for gunzip instead of guessing
wrong buf size.

There are two kexec load syscalls, kexec_load another and kexec_file_load.
kexec_file_load has been splited as kernel/kexec_file.c. In this patch I
split kexec_load syscall code to kernel/kexec.c.
And add a new kconfig option KEXEC_CORE, so we can disable kexec_load and
use kexec_file_load only, or vice verse.
The original requirement is from Ted Ts'o, he want kexec kernel signature
being checked with CONFIG_KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG enabled. But kexec-tools use
kexec_load syscall can bypass the checking.
Vivek Goyal proposed to create a common kconfig option so user can compile
in only one syscall for loading kexec kernel. KEXEC/KEXEC_FILE selects
KEXEC_CORE so that old config files still work.
Because there's general code need CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE, so I updated all the
architecture Kconfig with a new option KEXEC_CORE, and let KEXEC selects
KEXEC_CORE in arch Kconfig. Also updated general kernel code with to
kexec_load syscall.

1/ Introduce ZONE_DEVICE and devm_memremap_pages() as a generic
mechanism for adding device-driver-discovered memory regions to the
kernel's direct map. This facility is used by the pmem driver to
enable pfn_to_page() operations on the page frames returned by DAX
('direct_access' in 'struct block_device_operations'). For now, the
'memmap' allocation for these "device" pages comes from "System
RAM". Support for allocating the memmap from device memory will
arrive in a later kernel.
2/ Introduce memremap() to replace usages of ioremap_cache() and
ioremap_wt(). memremap() drops the __iomem annotation for these
mappings to memory that do not have i/o side effects. The
replacement of ioremap_cache() with memremap() is limited to the
pmem driver to ease merging the api change in v4.3. Completion of
the conversion is targeted for v4.4.
3/ Similar to the usage of memcpy_to_pmem() + wmb_pmem() in the pmem
driver, update the VFS DAX implementation and PMEM api to provide
persistence guarantees for kernel operations on a DAX mapping.
4/ Convert the ACPI NFIT 'BLK' driver to map the block apertures as
cacheable to improve performance.
5/ Miscellaneous updates and fixes to libnvdimm including support
for issuing "address range scrub" commands, clarifying the optimal
'sector size' of pmem devices, a clarification of the usage of the

- Introduce memremap() to replace usages of ioremap_cache() and
ioremap_wt(). memremap() drops the __iomem annotation for these
mappings to memory that do not have i/o side effects. The
replacement of ioremap_cache() with memremap() is limited to the
pmem driver to ease merging the api change in v4.3.
Completion of the conversion is targeted for v4.4.
- Similar to the usage of memcpy_to_pmem() + wmb_pmem() in the pmem
driver, update the VFS DAX implementation and PMEM api to provide
persistence guarantees for kernel operations on a DAX mapping.
- Convert the ACPI NFIT 'BLK' driver to map the block apertures as
cacheable to improve performance.
- Miscellaneous updates and fixes to libnvdimm including support for
issuing "address range scrub" commands, clarifying the optimal
'sector size' of pmem devices, a clarification of the usage of the
ACPI '_STA' (status) property for DIMM devices, and other minor

The following commit:
1b3d4200c1 ("PCI: Add pci_iomap_wc() variants")
Introduced pci_iomap_wc() variants but broke the s390 build,
because s390 requires its own implementation of pcio_iomap*()
calls.
The reason for that is that:
"BAR spaces are not disjunctive on s390 so we need the bar
parameter of pci_iomap to find the corresponding device
and create the mapping cookie"
so it has its own lookup/lock solution and it does not include
asm-generic/pci_iomap.h.
Since it currenty maps ioremap_wc() to ioremap_nocache() and
that's the architecture default we can easily just map the wc
calls to the default calls as well.

While pmem is usable as a block device or via DAX mappings to userspace
there are several usage scenarios that can not target pmem due to its
lack of struct page coverage. In preparation for "hot plugging" pmem
into the vmemmap add ZONE_DEVICE as a new zone to tag these pages
separately from the ones that are subject to standard page allocations.
Importantly "device memory" can be removed at will by userspace
unbinding the driver of the device.
Having a separate zone prevents allocation and otherwise marks these
pages that are distinct from typical uniform memory. Device memory has
different lifetime and performance characteristics than RAM. However,
since we have run out of ZONES_SHIFT bits this functionality currently
depends on sacrificing ZONE_DMA.

With the removal of the dynamic reallocation of page tables for
KVM (see git commit 0b46e0a3ec)
the page table allocation / freeing code can be simplified.
The page table free code can now use the alloc_pgste bit in the
mm context to decide if a page table is 2K or 4K, there is no mix
of different sized page tables anymore. This eliminates the need
to use "page->_mapcount == 0" to check for 4K page table.
Use the lower two bits in page->_mapcount to indicate which
2K fragments of the 4K page are in use.
As 31-bit support is gone, remove the two defines ALLOC_ORDER
and FRAG_MASK and use the constants directly where appropriate.

Change machine_check_init() to an early_initcall(). This makes sure it will
be called before all other cpus are online and therfore saves us a lot of
pointless smp_call_function() calls.
The control register settings will be forwarded to the other cpus when they
will be brought online.

The novx parameter disables the vector facility but the HWCAP_S390_VXRS
bit in the ELf hardware capabilies is always set if the machine has
the vector facility. If the user space program uses the "vx" string
in the features field of /proc/cpuinfo to utilize vector instruction
it will crash if the novx kernel paramter is set.
Convert setup_hwcaps to an arch_initcall and use MACHINE_HAS_VX to
decide if the HWCAPS_S390_VXRS bit needs to be set.

get_user() and put_user() are inline functions in the meantime
again. Both will generate the mvcos instruction if compiled
with -march=z10 (or greater).
The kernel parameter "uaccess_primary" can only change the behavior
of out-of-line uaccess functions like copy_from_user() to not use
the mvcos instruction, but not for the above named inlined functions.
Therefore it is quite useless and the parameter can be removed.

Remove the two facility bits
50 - constrained transactional-execution facility
74 - transactional-execution facility
from the required facilities if the kernel is built with -march=zEC12.
E.g. z/VM 6.3 doesn't virtualize the TX facility yet. Therefore a kernel
built with -march=zEC12 and ipl'ed on a zEC12 machine as a z/VM 6.3 guest
will emit a message about the missing facilities and stop working.
The kernel however doesn't make use of the TX facility, therefore remove
the two TX related facility bits and fix this unpleasant behavior.

By accident this level has been removed by the NUMA infrastructure patch.
For non-NUMA systems with CPUs that span more than one book, this makes
the scheduler only use one of the books and the other books remain idle.
Fix this and re-add the missing level.
For NUMA and non-NUMA we have the following scheduling domains and groups:
- SMT (Groups: CPU threads)
- MC (Groups: Cores)
- BOOK (Groups: Books)
For the non-NUMA case we have one last level scheduling domain:
- DIE (Groups: Whole system, has all CPUs -> cpu_cpu_mask)
For the NUMA case we have the following two last level scheduling domains:
- DIE (Groups: NUMA nodes -> cpu_cpu_mask -> returns node siblings)
- NUMA (Groups: Whole system, has all CPUs -> created in sched_init_numa())

There is a build error that "'struct bpf_array' has no member
named 'prog'" on s390. In commit 2a36f0b92e ("bpf: Make the
bpf_prog_array_map more generic"), the member 'prog' of struct
bpf_array is replaced by 'ptrs'. So this patch fixes it.

Migrate s390 driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by
clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete
now.
This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent
devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED.
We weren't doing anything in the ->set_mode() callback. So, this patch
doesn't provide any set-state callbacks.

This fixes the assumption that kvm_set_irq_routing is always run
successfully by instead making it equal to the variable r which
we use for returning in the function kvm_arch_vm_ioctl instead
of making r equal to zero when calling this particular function
and incorrectly making the caller of kvm_arch_vm_ioctl think
the function has run successfully.

The core to node mapping data consumes about 2 KB bss data. To save memory
for the non-NUMA case, make the data dynamic. In addition change the
"core_to_node" array from "int" to "s32" which saves 1 KB also for the
NUMA case.

If the host has STP enabled, the TOD of the host will be changed during
synchronization phases. These are performed during a stop_machine() call.
As the guest TOD is based on the host TOD, we have to make sure that:
- no VCPU is in the SIE (implicitly guaranteed via stop_machine())
- manual guest TOD calculations are not affected
"Epoch" is the guest TOD clock delta to the host TOD clock. We have to
adjust that value during the STP synchronization and make sure that code
that accesses the epoch won't get interrupted in between (via disabling
preemption).

The MT scaling values are updated on each calll to do_account_vtime.
This function is called for each HZ interrupt and for each context
switch. Context switch can happen often, the STCCTM instruction
on this path is noticeable. Limit the updates to once per jiffy.

x86 will wire up all syscalls reachable via sys_socketcall. Therefore this
will yield a lot of warnings from the checksyscalls.sh scripts on s390
where we currently don't wire them up directly.
This might change in the future, but this needs to be done carefully in
order to not break anything.
For the time being just tell the checksyscalls script to ignore the missing
syscalls on s390.

NUMA emulation (aka fake NUMA) distributes the available memory to nodes
without using real topology information about the physical memory of the
machine.
Splitting the system memory into nodes replicates the memory management
structures for each node. Particularly each node has its own "mm locks"
and its own "kswapd" task.
For large systems, under certain conditions, this results in improved
system performance and/or latency based on reduced pressure on the mm
locks and the kswapd tasks.
NUMA emulation distributes CPUs to nodes while respecting the original
machine topology information. This is done by trying to avoid to separate
CPUs which reside on the same book or even on the same MC. Because the
current Linux scheduler code requires a stable cpu to node mapping, cores
are pinned to nodes when the first CPU thread is set online.
This patch is based on the initial implementation from Philipp Hachtmann.
