By Vesa DP 1.2 spec TEST_CRC_COUNT is a "4 bit wrap counter which
increments each time the TEST_CRC_x_x are updated."
However if we are trying to verify the screen hasn't changed we get
same (count, crc) pair twice. Without this patch we would return
-ETIMEOUT in this case.
So, if in 6 vblanks the pair (count, crc) hasn't changed we
return it anyway instead of returning error and let test case decide
if it was right or not.

By Vesa DP 1.2 Spec TEST_CRC_COUNT should be
"reset to 0 when TEST_SINK bit 0 = 0."
However for some strange reason when PSR is enabled in
certain platforms this is not true. At least not immediatelly.
So we face cases like this:
first get_sink_crc operation:
count: 0, crc: 000000000000
count: 1, crc: c101c101c101
returned expected crc: c101c101c101
secont get_sink_crc operation:
count: 1, crc: c101c101c101
count: 0, crc: 000000000000
count: 1, crc: 0000c1010000
should return expected crc: 0000c1010000
But also the reset to 0 should be faster resulting into:
get_sink_crc operation:
count: 1, crc: c101c101c101
count: 1, crc: 0000c1010000
should return expected crc: 0000c1010000
So in order to know that the second one is valid one
we need to compare the pair (count, crc) with latest (count, crc).
If the pair changed you have your valid CRC.

drm/i915: disable IPS while getting the pipe CRCs.
For some unknown reason, when IPS gets enabled, the sink CRC changes.
Since hsw_enable_ips() doesn't really guarantee to enable IPS (it
depends on package C-states), we can't really predict if IPS is
enabled or disabled while running our CRC tests, so let's just
completely disable IPS while sink CRCs are being used.
If we find a way to make IPS not change the pipe CRC result, we may
want to fix IPS and then revert this patch (and 8c740dcea too). While
this doesn't happen, let's merge this patch, so the IGT tests relying
on sink CRCs can work properly.
This was discovered while developing a new IGT test, which will
probably be called kms_frontbuffer_tracking.
Testcase: igt/kms_frontbuffer_tracking (not on upstream IGT yet)

After a bit of experimentation it looks like the best way to make this

We can also clean up the code by noting that we can't be called without

Updates the EDID compliance test function to perform the analyze and react to
the EDID data read as a result of a hot plug event. The results of this
analysis are handed off to userspace so that the userspace app can set the
display mode appropriately for the test result/response.
The compliance_test_active flag now appears at the end of the individual
test handling functions. This is so that the kernel-side operations can
be completed without the risk of interruption from the userspace app
that is polling on that flag.
V2:
- Addressed mailing list feedback
- Removed excess debug messages
- Removed extraneous comments
- Fixed formatting issues (line length > 80)
- Updated the debug message in compute_edid_checksum to output hex values

V3:
- Addressed more list feedback
- Added the test_active flag to the autotest function
- Removed test_active flag from handler
- Added failsafe check on the compliance test active flag
at the end of the test handler
- Fixed checkpatch.pl issues
V4:
- Removed the checksum computation function and its use as it has been
rendered superfluous by changes to the core DRM EDID functions
- Updated to use the raw header corruption detection mechanism
- Moved the declaration of the test_data variable here
V5:

V7:
- Fixed erroneous placement of the checksum assignment. In some cases
such as when the EDID read fails and is NULL, this causes a NULL ptr
dereference in the kernel. Bad news. Fixed now.
V8:
- Updated to support the kfree() on the EDID data added previously
V9:
- Updated for the long_hpd flag propagation
V10:
- Updated to use actual checksum from the EDID read that occurs during

Due to changes in the driver and to support Displayport compliance testing,
the test request and sink IRQ logic has been relocated from
intel_dp_check_link_status to intel_dp_detect. This is because the bulk of the
compliance tests that set the TEST_REQUEST bit in the DEVICE_IRQ field of the
DPCD issue a long pulse / hot plug event to signify the start of the test.
Currently, for a long pulse, intel_dp_check_link_status is not called for a
long HPD pulse, so if test requests come in, they cannot be detected by the
driver.
Once located in the intel_dp_detect, in the regular hot plug event path,
proper detection of Displayport compliance test requests occurs which then
invokes the test handler to support them. Additionally, this places compliance
testing in the normal operational paths, eliminating as much special case code
as possible.
The only change in intel_dp_check_link_status with this patch is that when
the IRQ is the result of a test request from the sink, the test handler is not
invoked during the short pulse path. Short pulse test requests are for a
particular variety of tests (mainly link training) that will be implemented
in the future. Once those tests are available, the test request handler will
be called from here as well.
V2:
- Rewored the commit message to be more clear about the content and intent
of this patch
- Restore IRQ detection logic to intel_dp_check_link_status(). Continue to
detect and clear sink IRQs in the short pulse case. Ignore test requests
in the short pulses for now since they are for future test implementations.

Occasionally it would be interesting to read some of the DPCD registers
for debug purposes, without having to resort to logging. Add an i915
specific i915_dpcd debugfs file for DP and eDP connectors to dump parts
of the DPCD. Currently the DPCD addresses to be dumped are statically
configured, and more can be added trivially.
The implementation also makes it relatively easy to add other i915 and
connector specific debugfs files in the future, as necessary.
This is currently i915 specific just because there's no generic way to
do AUX transactions given just a drm_connector. However it's all pretty
straightforward to port to other drivers.

In invalidate and flush functions of eDP DRRS, if deferred downclock
work starts execution at a time window between acquiring the drrs
mutex and cancellation of the deferred work
(intel_edp_drrs_downclock_work), then deferred work will find
drrs mutex locked and wait for the same.
Meanwhile the function that acquired mutex drrs invalidate/flush will
wait for the completion of the deferred work before releasing the mutex.
Thats a deadlock.
To avoid such deadlock scenario, this change cancels the deferred work
before acquiring the mutex at invalidate and flush functions.

Even though we only support atomic plane updates at the moment, we still
need to add an .atomic_get_property() entrypoint for connectors before
we allow the driver to flip on the DRIVER_ATOMIC bit. As soon as that
bit gets set, the DRM core will start adding atomic connector properties
(in addition to the plane properties we care about at the moment), so we
need to be able to handle the new way the DRM core will interact with
us.
For simplicity, we just lookup driver-specific connector properties in
the usual shadow array maintained by the core. Once we get real atomic
modeset support for crtc's and planes, this code should be re-written to
pull the data out of crtc/connector state structures.

We want to enable/test plane updates via the atomic interface, but as
soon as we flip DRIVER_ATOMIC on, the DRM core will take some atomic
codepaths to lookup properties during drmModeGetConnector() and some of
those codepaths unconditionally dereference connector->state
(specifically when looking up the CRTC ID property in
drm_atomic_connector_get_property()). Create a dummy connector state
for each connector at init time to ensure the DRM core doesn't try to
dereference a NULL connector->state. The actual connector properties
will never be updated or contain useful information, but since we're
doing this specifically for testing/debug of the plane operations (and
only when a specific kernel module option is given), that shouldn't
really matter.
Once we start creating connector states, the DRM core will want to be
able to clean them up for us. We also need to hook up the destruction
entrypoint to the core's helper.
v2: Squash in the patch to set the state destruction hook (Ander & Bob)

Many distro's have mechanism in place to collect and automatically file
bugs for failed WARN()s. And since i915 has a lot of hw state sanity
checks which result in WARN(), it generates quite a lot of noise which
is somewhat disconcerting to the end user.
Separate out the internal hw-is-in-the-state-I-expected checks into
I915_STATE_WARN()s and allow configuration via i915.verbose_checks module
param about whether this will generate a full blown stacktrace or just
DRM_ERROR(). The new moduleparam defaults to true, so by default there
is no change in behavior. And even when disabled, you will still get
an error message logged.

This function was in use to check if PSR feature got enabled.
However on HSW and BDW we currently force psr exit by disabling
EDP_PSR_ENABLE bit at EDP_PSR_CTL(dev). So this function was actually
returning the active/inactive state that is different from the enable/disable
meaning and had the risk of false negative.
But anyway this check with DRRS was dangerous, since DRRS could try to get enabled

Currently we just make sure vdd is off before suspending, but we don't
cancel the vdd off work. The work wil not touch vdd if
want_panel_vdd==false so in theory this is fine.
In the past that was perfectly fine since the vdd off work didn't do
anything when want_panel_vdd==false, so even if the work would have been
run during system resume before i915 has resumed, nothing would happen.
However since pps_lock() will now grab the power domain references before
it can check want_panel_vdd, we may end up toggling the power wells on/off
already before the driver has resumed. That is not really acceptable, so
cancel the vdd off work when suspending the encoder.
The problem appeared when pps_lock() was introduced in:

When we suspend we turn everything off so the pps should be idle, and we
also (or at least should) disable all power wells which will reset the
power sequencer port assignment. So when we resume all power sequencers
should be in their reset state. However it's at least theoretically
possible that the BIOS would touch the power seuqencer(s), so to be safe
we ought to read out the current port assignment like we do at driver
init time.
To do that we can simply call vlv_initial_power_sequencer_setup() from
the encoder ->reset() hook before calling intel_edp_panel_vdd_sanitize().
There's no danger or clobbering the pps delays since we now have those
stored within intel_dp and we don't change them once initialized.
This will make sure that the vdd state gets correctly tracked post-resume
in case the BIOS enabled it.
We need to shuffle things around a bit to get the locking right, and
while at it, make intel_edp_panel_vdd_sanitize() static and move it
around a bit to avoid a forward declaration.

we accidentally steal the power sequener from an active eDP port. This
should not happen unless there's a bug somewhere else, but it's best to

Note that this only checks for active pipes and not for enabled pipes
which are turned off with dpms. Which means we might run the risk that
the pps might get stolen and we can't reacquire one when enabling the

since we only support two edp ports with just two panel power

When we pick a new power sequencer for the port but we're not doing a
full modeset, the power sequencer may have locked on to another port (or
no port). So kick it a bit to make sure it controls the port we want.
Again just like when we attempt to actually enable the DP port, we
must first write the port register with the approriate value except
the enable bit, and then we must enable the port to make the power
sequencer happy. In this case since we don't want the port actually
enabled we just toggle it on and immediately back off. Going forward
the power sequencer will keep working on that specific port until again

pipe seems to need a bit of kicking to lock into the port. Even the vdd
force bit doesn't work before the power sequencer has been sufficiently
kicked, so this must be done before any AUX transactions are attempted.
After extensive experimentation I've determined that it's sufficient
to first write the port register with the correct values except the
port must remain disabled, then we can do a second write to enable the
port, after which the power sequencer is operational and allows the port
to start up properly.
Contrary to my earlier theories we don't need to enable the port with

want_panel_vdd is a bool so it can't cope with interleaving on/off calls
from multiple threads. If we want to make that possible we'd need to
convert want_panel_vdd into a proper ref count. But an easier fix is to
remove the high level vdd on/off calls from detect/hpd code paths and
just rely on the delayed vdd off to avoid needless vdd on<->off ping
pong.
After this change only the encoder enable/disable paths use the high
level functions, which is fine since both the on and off low level edp

Turning vdd on/off can generate a long hpd pulse on eDP ports. In order
to handle hpd we would need to turn on vdd to perform aux transfers.
This would lead to an endless cycle of
"vdd off -> long hpd -> vdd on -> detect -> vdd off -> ..."
So ignore long hpd pulses on eDP ports. eDP panels should be physically
tied to the machine anyway so they should not actually disappear and
thus don't need long hpd handling. Short hpds are still needed for link
re-train and whatnot so we can't just turn off the hpd interrupt
entirely for eDP ports. Perhaps we could turn it off whenever the panel
is disabled, but just ignoring the long hpd seems sufficient.

Sometimes we seem to get utter garbage from DPCD reads. The resulting
buffer is filled with the same byte, and the operation completed without
errors. My HP ZR24w monitor seems particularly susceptible to this
problem once it's gone into a sleep mode.
The issue seems to happen only for the first AUX message that wakes the
sink up. But as the first AUX read we often do is the DPCD receiver
cap it does wreak a bit of havoc with subsequent link training etc. when
the receiver cap bw/lane/etc. information is garbage.
A sufficient workaround seems to be to perform a single byte dummy read
before reading the actual data. I suppose that just wakes up the sink
sufficiently and we can just throw away the returned data in case it's
crap. DP_DPCD_REV seems like a sufficiently safe location to read here.

According to Spec, after disabled PSR CTL, the Idle state might occur
up to 24ms, that is one full frame time (1/refresh rate),
plus SRD exit training time (max of 6ms),
plus SRD aux channel handshake (max of 1.5ms).
So if something went wrong PSR will be disabled until next full

We need to turn the DP port off after the pipe, otherwise the pipe won't
turn off properly on certain pch platforms at least (happens on my ILK for
example). This also matches the BSpec modeset sequence better. We still
don't match the spec exactly though (eg. audio disable should happen
much earlier), but at last this eliminates the nasty
wait_for_pipe_off() timeouts.
We already did the port disable after the pipe for VLV/CHV and for CPU

On VLV/CHV the panel power sequencer may need to be "kicked" a bit to
lock onto the new port, and that needs to happen before any aux
transfers are attempted if we want the aux transfers to actaully
succeed. So turn on panel power (part of the "kick") before aux
transfers (DPMS_ON + link training).
This also matches the documented modeset sequence better for pch
platforms. The documentation doesn't explicitly state anything about the
DPMS or link training DPCD writes, but the panel power on step is
always listed before link training is mentioned.

EDID found during output discovery and reuse it. This is a separate
issue from caching the output EDID across detection cycles.

Rename the defines to have levels instead of values for vswing and
pre-emph levels as the values may differ in other scenarios like low vswing of
eDP1.4 where the values are different.
Done using following cocci patch for each define:

@@
# define DP_TRAIN_VOLTAGE_SWING_400 (0 << 0)
+ # define DP_TRAIN_VOLTAGE_SWING_LEVEL_0 (0 << 0)

There is no need to use hex_dump_to_buffer() since we have a kernel helper to
dump up to 64 bytes just via printk(). In our case the actual size is 15 bytes.

Renaming the HSW-specific macros for ddi buffer translation slot to denote the
slot and not the vswing/pre-emph values as they are platform-dependent.
This patch is based on top of the patch series for renaming the DP training
vswing/pre-emph defines:
