Ilya Yanok 68e5e9d734 vfb: make virtual framebuffer mmapable
Changed things:

1. vmalloc()/vfree() replaced with rvmalloc()/rvfree() (taken from
   drivers/media/video/se401.c)

2. mmap method implemented (mostly taken from drivers/media/video/se401.c)

3. smem_start and smem_len fields of struct fb_fix_screeninfo initialized.
(smem_start initialized with virtual address, don't know if it is really
   bad...)

Krzysztof Helt 1ddc28d7e7 pm2fb: panning and hardware cursor fixes
This patch:
- disallows setting of virtual height above 2048 as it does
not work for accelerated copyarea and imageblit
- fixes blinking of pm2v cursor by pushing cursor outside
  the display (x=2047)
- fixes hardware cursor position on Permedia 2 chips with
  panning enabled
- enables hardware cursor by default

This patch sets correct bits related to the byte ordering of the
framebuffer. This was tested on little endian kernel only. The big endian

Hans J. Koch 9ffa739606 pxafb: Add support for other palette formats
This patch adds support for the other three palette formats possible with
the PXA LCD controller. This is required on boards where an LCD is connected
with all its 18 bits. With this patch, it's possible to use an 8-bit mode
with 18-bit palette entries. This used to be possible in 2.4 kernels but
disappeared in 2.6. With current kernels, you can only get wrong colours
out of an LCD connected this way.

Users can choose the palette format by doing something like this
in their board definition:

static struct pxafb_mach_info my_fb_info = {
        [...]
        .lccr3          = LCCR3_OutEnH | LCCR3_PixFlEdg | LCCR3_PDFOR_3,

Ben Dooks c1f303bb21 sm501fb: update suspend and resume code
The suspend and resume code is failing to restore the CRT control
register, thus causing the CRT data-path to get changed if the
SM501 experiences a reset over suspend.

Also move some of the debug messages to dev_dbg() level and ensure
that the suspend code does not try and restore anything it did not
manage to save.

Michal Januszewski 8bdb3a2d7d uvesafb: the driver core
uvesafb is an enhanced version of vesafb. It uses a userspace helper (v86d)
to execute calls to the x86 Video BIOS functions. The driver is not limited
to any specific arch and whether it works on a given arch or not depends on
that arch being supported by the userspace daemon. It has been tested on
x86_32 and x86_64.

A single BIOS call is represented by an instance of the uvesafb_ktask
structure. This structure contains a buffer, a completion struct and a
uvesafb_task substructure, containing the values of the x86 registers, a flags
field and a field indicating the length of the buffer. Whenever a BIOS call
is made in the driver, uvesafb_exec() builds a message using the uvesafb_task
substructure and the contents of the buffer. This message is then assigned a
random ack number and sent to the userspace daemon using the connector
interface.

The message's sequence number is used as an index for the uvfb_tasks array,
which provides a mapping from the messages coming from userspace to the
in-kernel uvesafb_ktask structs.

The userspace daemon performs the requested operation and sends a reply in the
form of a uvesafb_task struct and, optionally, a buffer. The seq and ack
numbers in the reply should be exactly the same as those in the request.

Each message from userspace is processed by uvesafb_cn_callback() and after
passing a few sanity checks leads to the completion of a BIOS call request.

Jesper Juhl 0b75f2dfa2 backlight: Fix cr_bllcd allocations and error paths
After fixing the too small memory allocation in cr_backlight_probe()
from drivers/video/backlight/cr_bllcd.c
(commit e3bbb3f053) I noticed that the
Coverity checker also thought there were a few memory leaks in there.
I took a closer look and confirmed that there were indeed several
leaks.

At the start of the function we allocate storage for a
'struct cr_panel' and store the pointer in a variable named 'crp'.

Then we call pci_get_device() and pci_read_config_byte() and if
either of them fail we return without freeing the memory allocated
for the 'struct cr_panel'. These two leaks are easy to fix since we
don't even use 'crp' for anything up to this point, so I simply
moved the allocation further down in the function so it only happens
just before we actually need it.

A bit further down we call backlight_device_register() and store the
result in 'crp->cr_backlight_device'. In case of error we return
'crp->cr_backlight_device' from the function, thus leaking 'crp'
itself. The same thing happens with the call to lcd_device_register().
To fix these two leaks I declare two new pointers to hold the return
values, so that in case of error we can return the pointer (as before)
but without leaking 'crp'.

This version of the patch also adds missing
backlight_device_unregister() / lcd_device_unregister() / pci_dev_put()
calls to error paths.

Jeff Garzik 1855256c49 drivers/firmware: const-ify DMI API and internals
Three main sets of changes:

1) dmi_get_system_info() return value should have been marked const,
since callers should not be changing that data.

2) const-ify DMI internals, since DMI firmware tables should,
whenever possible, be marked const to ensure we never ever write to
   that data area.

3) const-ify DMI API, to enable marking tables const where possible
   in low-level drivers.

And if we're really lucky, this might enable some additional
optimizations on the part of the compiler.

The bulk of the changes are #2 and #3, which are interrelated. #1 could
have been a separate patch, but it was so small compared to the others,
it was easier to roll it into this changeset.

Krzysztof Halasa 9c54ea9585 Subject: [PATCH] Intel FB pixel clock calculation fix
Intel framebuffer mis-calculated pixel clocks.

The pixel clock (and thus both H and V sync) will be slower than requested, so
if you set the minimum allowed the display may not sync. In case of really
old CRT display it could theoretically damage it.

I'm using it with PAL TV (using RGB input - SCART connector) and the bug
prevented it from working at all (TV requirements are more strict and made the
bug visible).

Helge Deller 04a3f959f6 stifb: detect cards in double buffer mode more reliably
Visualize-EG, Graffiti and A4450A graphics cards on PARISC can
be configured in double-buffer and standard mode, but the stifb
driver supports standard mode only.
This patch detects double-buffered cards more reliable.

It is a real bugfix for a very nasty problem for all parisc users which have
wrongly configured their graphic card. The problem: The stifb graphics driver
will not detect that the card is wrongly configured and then nevertheless just
enables the graphics mode, which it shouldn't. In the end, the user will see
no further updates / boot messages on the screen.

We had documented this problem already on our FAQ
(http://parisc-linux.org/faq/index.html#viseg "Why do I get corrupted graphics
with my Vis-EG/Graffiti/A4450A card?") but people still run into this problem.

struct all_info *all = kzalloc(sizeof(*all), GFP_KERNEL);

Not only is this massive code duplication, it also caused a
bug in that we weren't setting the fb_info->device pointer

Nicolas Ferre 250a269da4 atmel_lcdfb: Fix STN LCD support
Fixes STN LCD support for the atmel_lcdfb framebuffer driver.

This patch is the result of a work from Jan Altenberg and has
been tested on a Hitachi SP06Q002 on at91sam9261ek.

It adds a Kconfig switch that enables the proper LCD in the
board configuration file (STN or TFT). The switch is used
in arch/arm/mach-at91/at91sam9261_devices.c & board-sam9261ek.c
as an example.

This patch includes the "Fix wrong line_length calculation"
little one from Jan and Haavard (submitted earlier).

AT91 platform informations are directly submitted trough
the at91 maintainer, here :

Fix following section mismatch warning:
WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x121e62): Section mismatch: reference to .init.text:__alloc_bootmem (between 'vgacon_startup' and 'vgacon_scrolldelta')

Browsing the code it seems that vgacon_scrollback_startup() is only called
during the init phase so the reference to the .init.text section is OK.

David S. Miller c73fcc846c [SPARC]: Fix serial console device detection.
The current scheme works on static interpretation of text names, which
is wrong.

The output-device setting, for example, must be resolved via an alias
or similar to a full path name to the console device.

Paths also contain an optional set of 'options', which starts with a
colon at the end of the path. The option area is used to specify
which of two serial ports ('a' or 'b') the path refers to when a
device node drives multiple ports. 'a' is assumed if the option
specification is missing.

This was caught by the UltraSPARC-T1 simulator. The 'output-device'
property was set to 'ttya' and we didn't pick upon the fact that this
is an OBP alias set to '/virtual-devices/console'. Instead we saw it
as the first serial console device, instead of the hypervisor console.

The infrastructure is now there to take advantage of this to resolve
the console correctly even in multi-head situations in fbcon too.

Thanks to Greg Onufer for the bug report.

Geert Uytterhoeven 90da63e546 fbdev: extract fb_show_logo_line()
The Cell Broadband Engine contains a 64-bit PowerPC core with 2 hardware
threads (called PPEs) and 8 Synergistic Processing Engines (called SPEs).
When booting Linux, 2 penguins logos are shown on the graphical console by
the standard frame buffer console logo code.

To emphasize the existence of the SPEs (which can be used under Linux), we

Paul Mundt 1a3f28817e fb: epson1355fb: kill off dead sh support
The SH board that was the only user for this code was removed entirely from
the kernel quite some time ago, so there's no reason to leave the stubs in
place. Additionally this driver was completely broken anyways, so there's
not really a lot of point in fixing it up either.

I can't imagine that this driver gets any testing on ARM either, given that
FB_BLANK_UNBLANKING doesn't exist, and kills the build regardless of which
platform is compiling. This fixes that, too.

It wouldn't be a lot of work to finish the platform device conversion and
go with a generic 8-bit read/write_reg and kill off the architecture
dependence completely, should someone have any use for this driver.

Jesse Barnes cfafca8067 fbdev: fbcon: console unregistration from unregister_framebuffer
This allows for proper console unregistration via the VT layer, and updates
the FB layer to use it. This makes debugging new console drivers much easier,
since you can properly clean them up before unloading.

[adaplas]
unregister_framebuffer() is typically called as part of the driver's
module_exit(). Doing so otherwise will freeze the machine as the VT layer is
holding reference counts on fbcon, and fbcon on the driver. With this change,
it allows unregister_framebuffer() to be called safely anywhere as needed.

Additions from the original: If multiple drivers are used by fbcon, and if
one of them unregisters, a driver will take over the consoles vacated by the
outgoing one (via set_con2fb_map). Once only the outgoing driver remains,
then fbcon will unbind from the VT layer (if CONFIG_HW_CONSOLE_UNBINDING is
set to y).

It is important that these drivers implement fb_open() and fb_release()
just to ensure that no other process is using the driver. Likewise, these
drivers _must_ check the return value of unregister_framebuffer().

example, works only if there is only 1 working framebuffer. Trying to do a

- ensure that succeeding drivers after the first gets mapped to the console
- remove fbcon_preset_display() and modify fbcon_set_display() to include the
  former's functionality
- ensure that binding and unbinding succeeds if multiple drivers are mapped to
  the console

Antonino A. Daplas 623e71b035 fbcon: allow fbcon to use the primary display driver
Allow fbcon to select the primary display adapter using the
fb_is_primary_device() arch-specific helper.  If a a primary adapter is
detected, fbcon will unbind the old adapter from the VT layer, then rebind

Because this feature may produce unexpected behavior (from the user's POV),
