Usage of the iterator outside of the list_for_each_entry
is considered harmful. https://lkml.org/lkml/2022/2/17/1032
Do not reference the loop variable outside of the loop,
by rearranging the orders of execution.
Instead of performing search loop and checking outside the loop
if the end of the list was hit and no matching element was found,
the execution is performed inside the loop upon a successful match
followed by a goto statement to the next step,
therefore no condition has to be performed after the loop has ended.

During the hardware start sequence, do not overwrite the driver state
and do not proceed with the initialization sequence if the state
was changed while the driver was waiting for the start interrupt.
This can happen if the driver's removal/stop procedure was triggered
from the parent level while the driver is waiting for the start
interrupt. This may lead to stray the reset work or the timer
after driver were removed.

Use dma_set_mask_and_coherent() instead of unrolling it with some
dma_set_mask()+dma_set_coherent_mask().
Moreover, as stated in [1], dma_set_mask() with a 64-bit mask will never
fail if dev->dma_mask is non-NULL.
So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason.
Simplify code and remove some dead code accordingly.
While at it, include directly <linux/dma-mapping.h> instead on relying on
indirect inclusion.

Expose the client dma mapping via mei client bus interface.
The client dma has to be mapped before the device is enabled,
therefore we need to create device linking already during mapping
and we need to unmap after the client is disable hence we need to

Here is the big set of driver core patches for 5.15-rc1.
These do change a number of different things across different
subsystems, and because of that, there were 2 stable tags created that
might have already come into your tree from different pulls that did the
following
- changed the bus remove callback to return void
- sysfs iomem_get_mapping rework
The latter one will cause a tiny merge issue with your tree, as there
was a last-minute fix for this in 5.14 in your tree, but the fixup
should be "obvious". If you want me to provide a fixed merge for this,
please let me know.
Other than those two things, there's only a few small things in here:
- kernfs performance improvements for huge numbers of sysfs
users at once
- tiny api cleanups
- other minor changes

The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.
This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.
With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.

The __assign_str macro has an unusual ending semicolon but the vast
majority of uses of the macro already have semicolon termination.
$ git grep -P '\b__assign_str\b' | wc -l
551
$ git grep -P '\b__assign_str\b.*;' | wc -l
480
Add semicolons to the __assign_str() uses without semicolon termination
and all the other uses without semicolon termination via additional defines
that are equivalent to __assign_str() with the eventual goal of removing
the semicolon from the __assign_str() macro definition.

The mei extension header was build as array of flexible structures
which will not work if actually more headers are added.
(Currently only vtag header was used).
Sparse reports:
drivers/misc/mei/hw.h:253:32: warning: array of flexible structures
Use basic type u8 for the variable sized extension.
Define explicitly mei_ext_hdr_vtag structure.
And also fix mei_ext_next() function to point correctly to the
end of the header.
Note: the headers are part of firmware interface and need to be __packed.

Allow map and unmap of the client dma buffer only when the client is not
connected. The functions return -EPROTO if the client is already connected.
This is to fix the race when traffic may start or stop when buffer
is not available.

Here is the large set of char/misc/whatever driver subsystem updates for
5.12-rc1. Over time it seems like this tree is collecting more and more
tiny driver subsystems in one place, making it easier for those
maintainers, which is why this is getting larger.
Included in here are:
- coresight driver updates
- habannalabs driver updates
- virtual acrn driver addition (proper acks from the x86
maintainers)
- broadcom misc driver addition
- speakup driver updates
- soundwire driver updates
- fpga driver updates
- amba driver updates
- mei driver updates
- vfio driver updates
- greybus driver updates
- nvmeem driver updates
- phy driver updates
- mhi driver updates
- interconnect driver udpates
- fsl-mc bus driver updates
- random driver fix
- some small misc driver updates (rtsx, pvpanic, etc.)
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only reported
issue being a merge conflict in include/linux/mod_devicetable.h that you
will hit in your tree due to the dfl_device_id addition from the fpga
subsystem in here. The resolution should be simple.

The driver core ignores the return value of mei_cl_device_remove() so
passing an error value doesn't solve any problem. As most mei drivers'
remove callbacks return 0 unconditionally and returning a different value
doesn't have any effect, change this prototype to return void and return 0
unconditionally in mei_cl_device_remove(). The only driver that could
return an error value is modified to emit an explicit warning in the error
case.

The driver core only calls a bus' remove function when there is actually
a driver and a device. So drop the needless check and assign cldrv earlier.
(Side note: The check for cldev being non-NULL is broken anyhow, because
to_mei_cl_device() is a wrapper around container_of() for a member that is
not the first one. So cldev only can become NULL if dev is (void *)0xc
(for archs with 32 bit pointers) or (void *)0x18 (for archs with 64 bit
pointers).)
