This patch does 3 things
1) It removes the statistics work. The request statistics command is
sent in ASYNC mode in this flow, the mutex is uneeded, so the request
statistics function can't go to sleep. No need for a workqueue anymore.
2) iwl4965_send_statistics_request has been renamed to
iwl_send_statistics_request and moved to iwl-core.c
3) A request for statistics is sent in alive_notify, the makes the uCode
sends statistics notification periodically starting from association.

This adds a fastpath for the common workloads to the
MAC suspend flushing.
In common workloads the FIFO flush will take between 100 and
200 microseconds. So we want to avoid calling msleep() in the
common case, as it will waste over 800 microseconds + scheduler
overhead.
This fastpath will hit in workloads where only small chunks
of data are transmitted (downloading a file) or when a TX rate bigger
or equal to 24MBit/s is used when transmitting lots of stuff (iperf).
So in the commonly used workloads it will basically always hit.
In case the fastpath is not hit, there's no real performance or latency
disadvantage from that.
And yes, I measured this. So this is not one of these
bad Programmer Likeliness Assumptions that are always wrong. ;)

Do not use workqueue for bss_info_changed post association work.
When driver is notified of association the upper layer will be notified
right after that the association is complete. Doing the post association
work in a workqueue introduces a race condition where the upper layer may
want to make use of the association, but it is not yet complete.

When no key mapping key/pairwise key is used. The key is broadcast key
is used as default/global/static key.

This patch (co-developed by Dan Williams and Holger Schurig) uses a kfifo
object for events and a swapping buffer scheme for the command response to
preserve the zero-copy semantics of the CF driver and keep memory usage low.
The main thread should only ever touch the buffer indexed by priv->resp_idx,
while the interface code is free to write to the second buffer, then swap
priv->resp_idx under the driver spinlock. The firmware specs only permit
one in-flight command, so there will only ever be one command response to
process at a time.

In rt2x00lib_intf_scheduled_iter() we use the hw->beacon_update()
callback function. This means that it should behave similarly as mac80211
when that uses the function.
This means that the skb should only be freed when beacon_update() has failed,
otherwise the driver is the owner and is responsible for freeing the buffer.

This is basically means that a net is set for a new device, but
actually also involves two more steps:
1. mark the tun device as "local", i.e. do not allow for it to
move across namespaces.
This is done so, since tun device is most often associated to some
file (and thus to some process) and moving the device alone is not
valid while keeping the file and the process outside. The need in
ability to move a detached persistent device is to be investigated
later.
2. get the tun device's net when tun becomes attached and put one
when it becomes detached.
This is needed to handle the case when a task owning the tun dies,
but a files lives for some more time - in this case we must not
allow for net to be freed, since its exit hook will spoil that file's
private data by unregistering the tun from under tun_chr_close.

Remove the static tun_dev_list and replace its occurrences in
driver with per-net one.
It is used in two places - in tun_set_iff and tun_cleanup. In
the first case it's legal to use current net_ns. In the cleanup
call - move the loop, that unregisters all devices in net exit
hook.

This is the first step in making tuntap devices work in net
namespaces. The structure mentioned is pointed by generic
net pointer with tun_net_id id, and tun driver fills one on
its load. It will contain only the tun devices list.
So declare this structure and introduce net init and exit hooks.

The num_interrupt_in, num_bulk_in, and other checks in the usb-serial
code are just wrong, there are too many different devices out there with
different numbers of endpoints. We need to just be sticking with the
device ids instead of trying to catch this kind of thing. It broke too
many different devices.
This fixes a large number of usb-serial devices to get them working
properly again.

The modem was detected, the ttyUSB{0,1,2} appeared, a call could be
made, and the expected data rate was achieved. Tested for an hour or
two, total of 100Mb. I shall do more testing.

The SPI core now expects num_chipselect to be set correctly as due to added
checks on the chip being selected before an transfer is allowed. This patch
adds a num_cs field to the platform data which needs to be set correctly
before adding the SPI platform device.

There is a bug in the function of cmos_set_alarm. RTC alarm time for October
can't be set correctly.
For October: 0x0A will be written into the RTC region (MONTH_ALARM) in current
kernel. But in fact 0x10 should be written. Wildcards are also not handled
correctly.

This fixes DMA on architectures where DMA is nontrivial, like PPC64.
We must use the host-device's (PCI) struct device for any DMA
operation instead of the SSB device. For this we add a new
struct device pointer to the SSB device structure that will always
point to the right device for DMAing.
Without this patch b43 and b44 drivers won't work on complex-DMA
architectures, that for example need dev->archdata for DMA operations.

This allows for the correct initial values to be uploaded to bcm4303
devices. It should be correct, but I can't reliably test this as I suspect
there's something going wrong with an hardware rfkill switch on my laptop.

This adds missing priv->vif assignments after "mac80211: don't use

Since 0bcc181618 (netconsole: Support
dynamic reconfiguration using configfs), the netconsole is always
registered, regardless of whether the user actually specified a
netconsole configuration on the command line.
However because netconsole has CON_PRINTBUFFER set, when it is
registered it causes the printk buffer to be replayed to all consoles.
When there is no netconsole configured this is a) pointless, and b)
somewhat annoying for the user of the existing console.
So instead we should only set CON_PRINTBUFFER if there is a netconsole
configuration found on the command line. This retains the existing
behaviour if a netconsole is setup by the user, and avoids spamming
other consoles when we're only registering for the dynamic
netconsole case.

drivers/atm/horizon.c has unusually large number
of static inline functions - 36.
I looked through them. Most of them seems to be small enough,
but a few are big, others are using udelay or busy loop,
and as such are better not be inlined.
This patch removes "inline" from these static functions
(regardless of number of callsites - gcc nowadays auto-inlines
statics with one callsite).

The driver stores the PCI resource addresses into 'unsigned long' variable
before calling ioremap_nocache() on them. This warrants kernel oops when the
registers are accessed on PPC 44x platforms which (being 32-bit) have PCI
memory space mapped beyond 4 GB.
The arch/ppc/ kernel has a fixup in ioremap() that creates an illusion that
the PCI memory resource is mapped below 4 GB, but arch/powerpc/ code got rid
of this trick, having instead CONFIG_RESOURCES_64BIT enabled.

PPP support in generic HDLC in Linux 2.6.25 is broken and will cause
a kernel panic when a device configured in PPP mode is activated.
It will be replaced by new PPP implementation after Linux 2.6.25 is
released.
This affects only PPP support in generic HDLC (mostly Hitachi SCA
and SCA-II based drivers, wanxl, and few others). Standalone syncppp
and async PPP support are not affected.

This critical patch fixes a mac address issue recently introduced. If the
device's mac address was in correct order and the flag
NVREG_TRANSMITPOLL_MAC_ADDR_REV was set, during nv_remove the flag would get
cleared. During next load, the mac address would get reversed because the
flag is missing.
As it has been indicated previously, the flag is cleared across a low power
transition. Therefore, the driver should set the mac address back into the
reversed order when clearing the flag.
Also, the driver should set back the flag after a low power transition to
protect against kexec command calling nv_probe a second time.

Most of the cpu_to_le32() usage was wrong in one way or another.
Compiler warning on BE builds was just the tip of the iceberg.

If a failure is detected after a parity check operation has been initiated,
but before it completes handle_parity_checks5 will never quiesce operations on
the stripe.
Explicitly handle this case by "canceling" the parity check, i.e. clear the
STRIPE_OP_CHECK flags and queue the stripe on the handle list again to refresh
any non-uptodate blocks.
Kernel versions >= 2.6.23 are susceptible.

the kernel for the Alpha architecture.

I have recently bought some USB PIDs from EZPrototypes for my USB projects
and one will be for the i2c-tiny-usb. I have not yet started to use the new
one in the official i2c-tiny-usb firmware since i think it makes sense to get
the change into the kernel before releasing a modified firmware.
This patch adds support for the EZPrototypes USB vid/pid pair used in later
i2c-tiny-usb firmware versions (avrusb v1.06 and up, usbtiny v2.06 and up).

cfi_amdstd_sync() and cfi_staa_sync() call schedule() without changing task's
state appropriately.
In case of e.g. chip->state == FL_ERASING, cfi_*_sync() will be busy-looping
either redundantly for a fixed interval of time (for SCHED_NORMAL tasks) or
possibly endlessly (for RT tasks and UP).

processor_device_array[pr->id] needs to be set to NULL when removing a CPU.
Else the "buggy BIOS check" in acpi_processor_start mistakenly fires when a
CPU is removed from the system and then later re-added.

thermal_zone_device_register() uses the ERR_PTR macro on its return values. A
correct check is to use the IS_ERR() macro.
The 2.6.25 kernels panic on Compaq AP550 without this patch as it has more
then 10 (THERMAL_MAX_TRIPS) trip points (there are 12).

When __blk_end_request returns nonzero, it means that the request was
not completely processed and some BIOs are still attached. Since we
have dequeued it by that time, it means leaking requests and hanging
processes, which is why BUG() was in there. In ub this happens if
a packet request ends normally, but with residue (e.g. when scsi_id
issues INQUIRY).
The fix is to make sure that arguments passed to __blk_end_request
are correct: the full request length and not just transferred length.
The transferred length is indicated to applications by adjusting
rq->data_len with old, unchanged code outside of this patch.

If print_mac() is used inside of a pr_debug() the compiler
can't see that the call is redundant so still performs it
even of pr_debug() ends up being a nop.
So don't use print_mac() in such cases in hot code paths,
use MAC_FMT et al. instead.
As noted by Joe Perches, pr_debug() could be modified to
handle this better, but that is a change to an interface
used by the entire kernel and thus needs to be validated
carefully. This here is thus the less risky fix for
2.6.25

When doing firmware-assisted scanning, iwlwifi drivers do not
honour the regulatory control code that might disable channels
that are enabled in the EEPROM, for example when the user is
visiting another country and adjusted the regulatory domain
accordingly. This patch fixes that.

After the workqueue is notified the LED code may be accessed. Ensure

Now rt2x00lib handles the initial configure_filter() command, we can
directly call lib->config_filter() in scheduled context since the
called function will no longer check if anything has changed (which is
now handled in rt2x00lib as well).
This fixes a endless loop with USB drivers where the config_filter
command was scheduled time and time again without sending any command
to the device.

This changes the b43-PIO code to use the new SSB block-I/O.
This reduces the overhead by removing lots of function calls, pointer
dereferencing, if-conditionals any byteswapping for each packet data word.
This also fixes a harmless sparse endianness warning.

This adds support for block based I/O to SSB.
This is needed in order to efficiently support PIO data
transfers to the card.
The block-I/O support is only compiled, if it's selected by the
weird driver that needs it. So there's no overhead for sane devices.

Can you please take a look at this patch?
drivers/net/wireless/wavelan_cs.c has unusually large number
of static inline functions - 27.
I looked through them and 20 of them do not seem to warrant inlining.
Some are really big; others call mdelay(1) or busy-wait for a bit
to be set in a hardware register - it's pointless
to optimize such functions for speed.
This patch removes "inline" from these static function
(regardless of number of callsites - gcc nowadays auto-inlines
statics with one callsite).

This adds PIO support back (D'oh!) for PCMCIA devices.
This is a complete rewrite of the old PIO code. It does actually work
and we get reasonable performance out of it on a modern machine.
On a PowerBook G4 I get a few MBit for TX and a few more for RX.
So it doesn't work as well as DMA (of course), but it's a _lot_ faster
than the old PIO code (only got a few kBit with that).
The limiting factor is the host CPU speed. So it will generate 100%
CPU usage when the network interface is heavily loaded. A voluntary preemption
point in the RX path makes sure Desktop Latency isn't hurt.
PIO is needed for 16bit PCMCIA devices, as we really don't want to poke with
the braindead DMA mechanisms on PCMCIA sockets. Additionally, not all
PCMCIA sockets do actually support DMA in 16bit mode (mine doesn't).

Commit bada339ba2 enforces that all
interfaces have a valid MAC address before they are brought up.
ipw2200 does not assign a MAC address to it's radiotap interface, meaning
that the radiotap interface cannot be brought up in 2.6.24.

Fix kernel oops due to machine check occuring in init_chipset_siimage() on PPC
44x platforms. These 32-bit CPUs have 36-bit physical address and PCI I/O and
memory spaces are mapped beyond 4 GB; arch/ppc/ code has a fixup in ioremap()
that creates an illusion of the PCI I/O and memory resources being mapped below
4 GB, while arch/powerpc/ code got rid of this fixup with PPC 44x having instead
CONFIG_RESOURCES_64BIT=y -- this causes the resources to be truncated to 32-bit
'unsigned long' type in this driver, and so non-existant memory being ioremap'ed
and then accessed...

The 'disable_cb' is really just a hint and as such, it's possible for more
work to get queued up while callbacks are disabled. Under stress with an
SMP guest, this printk triggers very frequently. There is no race here, this
is how things are designed to work so let's just remove the printk.

The 'disable_cb' callback is designed as an optimization to tell the host
we don't need callbacks now. As it is not reliable, the debug check is
overzealous: it can happen on two CPUs at the same time. Document this.
Even if it were reliable, the virtio_net driver doesn't disable
callbacks on transmit so the START_USE/END_USE debugging reentrance
protection can be easily tripped even on UP.

Upon having configuration changes on vports only, the driver
handles SCR regardless physical port state and, in turn, it
results mailbox error as below:

With the changes, driver checks physical port loop_state and make

Now that infrastructure is present within the midlayer and there
is a clear distinction between what is expected from a device and
target reset, convert the current device-reset codes to a
target-reset, and add codes to perform a proper device-reset (LUN
reset).
In the process of adding reset support, collapse and consolidate
large sections of mailbox-command (TMF issuance) codes,
generalize the two 'wait-for-commands-to-complete' functions, and
add a generic-reset routine for use by midlayer reset functions.

The Flash Descriptor Table (FDT) present on many recent HBAs
encodes flash accessing characteristics of the flash-part used on
the HBA. Use this information during flash manipulation (writes)
rather than using specific hard-coded values based on queried
manufacturer and device IDs.

Supported events include LIP, LIP reset, RSCN, link up, and link
down.
To support AEN (and additional forthcoming features), we also
introduce a simple deferred-work construct to manage events which
require a non-atomic sleeping-capable context. This work-list is
processed as part of the driver's standard DPC routine.

There's no need to use the heavier (albiet safer)
*_irq[save|restore]() locking primitives within the driver's
interrupt handlers, interrupts are guaranteed to be
non-reentrant. Use lightweight spin_lock() and spin_unlock()
primitives while acquiring the hardware_lock.

Every current transport class calls transport_container_release but
ignores the return value. This is catastrophic if it returns an error
because the containers are part of a global list and the next action of
almost every transport class is to free the memory used by the
container.
Fix this by making transport_container_release a void, but making it BUG
if attribute_container_release returns an error ... this catches the
root cause of a system panic much earlier. If we don't do this, we get
an eventual BUG when the attribute container list notices the corruption
caused by the freed memory it's still referencing.
Also made attribute_container_release __must_check as a reminder.

Currently, if the barrier command fails, the error return isn't seen
by the block layer and it proceeds on regardless. The problem is that
SCSI always returns no error for REQ_TYPE_BLOCK_PC ... it expects the
submitter to pick the errors out of req->errors, which the block
barrier functions don't do.
Since it appears that the way SG_IO and scsi_execute_request() work
they discard the block error return and always use req->errors, the
best fix for this is to have the SCSI layer return an error to block
if one actually occurred (this also allows us to filter out spurious
errors, like deferred sense).
This patch is a bug fix that will need backporting to stable, but it's
also quite a big change and in need of testing, so we'll incubate in
the main kernel tree and backport at the -rc2 or so stage if no
problems turn up.

Currently, the maximum amount of RAM that scsi_debug can allocate is
4GB. This patch increases it to 2TB; scsi_debug can allocates 2TB
memory and export it as if it were 2TB scsi disk.

This patch adds per request hardware debugging data to the trace
record which is written per request. It's a replacement for some sad
kernel message based debugging code. Considering the amount of trace
data, printk() is not suitable for this stuff. Writing binary traces
is more efficient. In addition we got all information in one place.
The QTCB trace data is only dumped for requests other than SCSI
requests. Otherwise we would flood the trace ring buffer. We are
mostly interested in non-SCSI, recovery related requests here anyway.
This patch also works around a known hardware bug. It truncates QTCB
traces so that we do not save unused areas of the hardware trace.

SGI machines with WD33C93 allow usage of burst mode DMA, which increases
performance noticable. To make this selectable by the sgiwd93 stub,
setting the values for no_sync, fast and dma_mode has been moved to the
individual platform stubs.

While performing hardware raid reset testing via the raid's client, I
noticed that sometimes, following the reset, that there would be more
raid targets in the lsscsi output than there actually were raid
targets. I tracked this down to the following issue.
Fusion cannot always find the mptsas_portinfo structure for the hba
because it uses the handle stored in ioc->handle to locate it. The
problem is that the firmware can change the handle associated with the
hba when h/w raid is reset (via the raid client). When this happens,
the driver will allocate another mptsas_portinfo structure and link it
into the chain of said structures. This ultimately causes confusion
within the driver resulting in targets not being removed when they
should be.
Eric Moore pointed out that the hba's portinfo structure is always the
first structure on the sas_topology list. This patch modifies
mptsas.c to access the hba's portinfo structure by taking the first
structure on said list.

When Driver sent wrong frame count to firmware. As this particular
command is sent to drive, FW is seeing continuous chip resets and so

never do the additional invalid bit checks non-and operations require

Two functions, sdebug_add_adapter and devInfoReg, creates new
scsi_debug devices. To simplify the code, this patch adds a new helper
function to create new scsi_debug devices (sdebug_device_create) and
converts both functions to use it.
I plan to add more to scsi_debug devices (e.g. using a thread for a
scsi_debug device for scalability testings). This patch enable me to
add such to just the new helper function instead of touching two
functions, sdebug_add_adapter and devInfoReg.

We've verified that there are 64 bit and endianness problems in the
flashpoint driver. Reverse the logic of CONFIG_OMIT_FLASHPOINT (make
it CONFIG_SCSI_FLASHPOINT) and make it depend on X86_32 so it can't
appear for any other architectures. Long term, if someone chooses,
they could make FlashPoint 64 bit compliant (it looks like its a
question of fixing up the sizes in some of the packed descriptors)

When a FSF physical close returns the status boxed, this means that
another system already closed the port. For our system this is the
same status as in the good path, we have to send the normal close. So,
set the status for the boxed response to the same as for the good
status.

With the new target reset handler callback in the SCSI midlayer, the
device reset handler in zfcp can be split in two parts. Now, zfcp does
not have to track anymore whether the device supports LUN resets, so
remove this flag and let the SCSI midlayer decide what to do.
The device reset handler simply issues a LUN reset and the target
reset handler a target reset.

The problem is that serveral drivers are sending a target reset from the
device reset handler, and if we have multiple devices a target reset gets
sent for each device when only one would be sufficient. And if we do a target
reset it affects all the commands on the target so the device reset handler
code only cleaning up one devices's commands makes programming the driver a
little more difficult than it should be.
This patch adds a target reset handler, which drivers can use to send
a target reset. If successful it cleans up the commands for a devices
accessed through that starget.

As we no longer need to calculate the data length of the whole scatterlist,
we can abort the loop earlier and coalesce req_len and act_len into one
variable, making fill_from_dev_buffer() more similar to fetch_to_dev_buffer().

When aacraid spoofs READ_CAPACITY_16, it assumes that the data length
in the sg list is equal to allocation length in cdb. But sg can put
any value in scb so the driver needs to check both the data length in
the sg list and allocation length in cdb.
If allocation length is larger than the response length that the
driver expects, it clears the data buffer in the sg list to zero but
it doesn't need to do. Just setting resid is fine.

Show the current binary tape driver and mode options is sysfs. A file
(options) is created in each directory in /sys/class/scsi_tape. The files
contain masks showing the options. The mask bit definitions are the same as
used when setting the options using the MTSETDRVBUFFER function in the
MTIOCTOP ioctl (defined in include/linux/mtio.h). For example:

Add new option MT_ST_SILI to enable setting the SILI bit in reads in variable
block mode. If SILI is set, reading a block shorter than the byte count does
not result in CHECK CONDITION. The length of the block is determined using the
residual count from the HBA. Avoiding the REQUEST SENSE command for every
block speeds up some real applications considerably.

I overlooked ips_scmd_buf_write and ips_scmd_buf_read when I converted
ips to use the data buffer accessors.
ips is unlikely to use sg chaining (especially in this path) since a)
this path is used only for non I/O commands (with little data
transfer), b) ips's sg_tablesize is set to just 17.

Since 2.6.25-rc7, I've been seeing an occasional livelock on one x86_64
machine, copying kernel trees to tmpfs, paging out to swap.
Signature: 6000 pages under writeback but never getting written; most
tasks of interest trying to reclaim, but each get_swap_bio waiting for a
bio in mempool_alloc's io_schedule_timeout(5*HZ); every five seconds an
atomic page allocation failure report from kblockd failing to allocate a
sense_buffer in __scsi_get_command.
__scsi_get_command has a (one item) free_list to protect against this,
but rc1's [SCSI] use dynamically allocated sense buffer
de25deb180 upset that slightly. When it
fails to allocate from the separate sense_slab, instead of giving up, it
must fall back to the command free_list, which is sure to have a
sense_buffer attached.
Either my earlier -rc testing missed this, or there's some recent
contributory factor. One very significant factor is SLUB, which merges
slab caches when it can, and on 64-bit happens to merge both bio cache
and sense_slab cache into kmalloc's 128-byte cache: so that under this
swapping load, bios above are liable to gobble up all the slots needed
for scsi_cmnd sense_buffers below.
That's disturbing behaviour, and I tried a few things to fix it. Adding
a no-op constructor to the sense_slab inhibits SLUB from merging it, and
stops all the allocation failures I was seeing; but it's rather a hack,
and perhaps in different configurations we have other caches on the
swapout path which are ill-merged.
Another alternative is to revert the separate sense_slab, using
cache-line-aligned sense_buffer allocated beyond scsi_cmnd from the one
kmem_cache; but that might waste more memory, and is only a way of
diverting around the known problem.
While I don't like seeing the allocation failures, and hate the idea of
all those bios piled up above a scsi host working one by one, it does
seem to emerge fairly soon with the livelock fix. So lacking better
ideas, stick with that one clear fix for now.

I noticed this while testing the latest code. I'm not sure if it is required,
but the normal (or LSB) timeout value is set to zero, so the MSB should
be as well to stay consistent.
If the chip revision is >= 8, set MSB of the 16-bit timeout value to zero
when disabling the watchdog in it8712f_wdt_disable().

This reverts commit 7c0ea45be4 which
caused a regression with the backlight being set to off when a laptop
doesn't have a _BQC entry to query the actual backlight value. The code
blindly then falls back on a value of 0.

In 2.6.14 a patch was merged which switching the order of the ipmi device
naming from in-order-of-discovery over to reverse-order-of-discovery.
So on systems with multiple BMC interfaces, the ipmi device names are being
created in reverse order relative to how they are discovered on the system
(e.g. on an IBM x3950 multinode server with N nodes, the device name for the
BMC in the first node is /dev/ipmiN-1 and the device name for the BMC in the
last node is /dev/ipmi0, etc.).
The problem is caused by the list handling routines chosen in dmi_scan.c.
Using list_add() causes the multiple ipmi devices to be added to the device
list using a stack-paradigm and so the ipmi driver subsequently pulls them off
during initialization in LIFO order. This patch changes the
dmi_save_ipmi_device() list handling paradigm to a queue, thereby allowing the
ipmi driver to build the ipmi device names in the order in which they are
found on the system.

THe CFI driver in 2.6.24 kernel is broken. Not so intensive read/write
operations cause incomplete writes which lead to kernel panics in JFFS2.
We investigated the issue - it is caused by bug in FL_SHUTDOWN parsing code.
Sometimes chip returns -EIO as if it is in FL_SHUTDOWN state when it should
wait in FL_PONT (error in order of conditions).
The following patch fixes the bug in state parsing code of CFI. Also I've
added comments to notify developers if they want to add new case in future.

Commit f63fd7e299 ("parport_pc: detection
for SuperIO IT87XX POST") only released the IO port region on success,
not when the probe for the IT87XX chip failed.
That caused not only a reserved region to leak, but also caused an oops
when the driver module was unloaded and somebody tried to cat
/proc/ioports - because the string that was assigned to the IO port
region was a static string in the module virtual address area.

fix memory corruption and crash due to mis-sized grant table.
A PV OS has two grant table data structures: the grant table itself
and a free list. The free list is composed of an array of pages,
which grow dynamically as the guest OS requires more grants. While
the grant table contains 8-byte entries, the free list contains 4-byte
entries. So we have half as many pages in the free list than in the
grant table.
There was a bug in the free list allocation code. The free list was
indexed as if it was the same size as the grant table. But it's only
half as large. So memory got corrupted, and I was seeing crashes in
the slab allocator later on.

ATAPI DMA just doesn't work reliably on pata_ali. The IDE driver can
do it but for some mysterious reason, pata_ali can't. This patch
disables it by default and makes the driver whine during
initialization. "pata_ali.atapi_dma" parameter is added so that user
can bypass the workaround.

SAT passthrus don't really fit into ATAPI_MISC class. SAT passthru
commands always transfer multiple of 512 bytes and variable length
response is not allowed. This patch creates a separate category -
ATAPI_PASS_THRU - for these.
This fixes HSM violation on "hdparm -I".

The 5784 B step and newer chips require the PHY DSPs to be fine-tuned
based on one-time programmable values stored in the chip. This is
essential to achieve optimal PHY operations especially when using
long cables. We also need to properly handle the 10Mbit RX bit in the
CPMU_CTRL register during PHY reset.

I looked through them and half of them seem to be too big
to warrant inlining.
This patch removes "inline" from these static functions

This gets the FEC ethernet driver working again on the lite5200
platform.
The FEC driver is also compatible with the MPC5200, not only with the
MPC5200B, so this adds a suitable entry to the driver's match list.
Furthermore this adds the settings for the PHY in the dts file for the
Lite5200. Note, that this is not exactly the same as in the
Lite5200B, because the PHY is located at f0003000:01 for the 5200, and
at :00 for the 5200B. This was tested on a Lite5200 and a Lite5200B,
both booted a kernel via tftp and mounted the root via nfs
successfully.

NBD does not protect the nbd_device's socket from becoming NULL during
receives.
This closes a race with the NBD_CLEAR_SOCK ioctl (nbd-client -d) setting
the nbd_device's socket to NULL right before NBD calls sock_xmit.

Strange chars appear on the serial port when a printk and a printf
happens at the same time. This is caused by the pdc sending chars while
atmel_console_write (called from printk) is executing
Concurent access of uart and console to the same port leads to corrupted
data to be transmitted, so disable tx dma (PDC) while writing to the
console.

I found a problem related to losing data during pdc transmission in
atmel_serial: connect ttyS1 with ttyS2 using a loopback cable, send 30
byte of packet from one to the other and waiting for 30 byte. On the
other side just read and echo the data received.
We always call atmel_tx_dma() from the tasklet regardless of what interrupt
triggered it.

using round_jiffies_relative(HZ). The timer would then fire at time (0 <= T <
HZ).

Fixes the keyspan driver after the addition of additional
checking of driver requirements introduced in usb-serial.c
commit 063a2da8f0. The initialization
of the keyspan usb_serial_driver structs were not initializing the
num_interrupt_out field and the additional checking was rejecting
the end point so the driver wouldn't finish initializing.
This commit initializes the fields to NUM_DONT_CARE.
It works for the keyspan USA-49WG and doesn't break the USA-19HS
which are the two keyspan devices I have to test with.

Fixes a bug/inconsistency revealed by the additional sanity checking in
commit 063a2da8f0
introduced in the original 2.6.24 branch.
The Handspring Visor / PalmOS 4 device structure defines .num_bulk_out=2
but the usb-serial probe returns num_bulk_out=3, triggering the check in
the above commit and forcing a bail out when the device (a Garmin iQue in
my case) attempts to connect. The patch bumps the expected number of
endpoints to 3.
FWIW, this patch will probably solve the following kernel bug report for
Treo users (identical symptoms, different model PalmOS units):

The changes introduced in commit
063a2da8f0 changed the semantics of the
num_interrupt_in, num_interrupt_out, num_bulk_in and num_bulk_out
entries of the usb_serial_driver struct to be the number of endpoints
the device has when probed.
This patch changes the ti_1port_device usb_serial_driver struct to
reflect this change. The single port devices only have 1
bulk_out endpoint in their initial configuration, and so this patch
changes the number of other types to NUM_DONT_CARE.
The same change probably needs doing to the ti_2port_device struct,
but I don't have a two port device at hand.

This patch, suggested by Alan Stern, fixes the hung USB issues
on my notebook from suspend/resume cycles.
It does so by eliminating some confusion about the internal state
machine associated with unlinking from the EHCI async schedule ring,
which caused a recent regression:

There are a couple of possible races on suspend/resume.
First the driver needs to block new packets from being queued for Tx.
The other less likely problem is the watchdog timer going off
during resume.

This reduces the memory footprint and removes the need to
manually configure each map, which lead to a bug where
the Fusion EXP 5 board broke for a while.
This also fixes digital support again for

Implement triggers inside rt2x00 itself based
on input from mac80211. This replaces the method
of using the mac80211 trigger events which do
not work for USB drivers due to the scheduling
requirement.
After this patch RT2500USB_LEDS and RT73USB_LEDS
no longer need to be tagged as broken since they
now support LED handling again without having to
check for in_atomic().

The TO_DS filter does not only depend on the FIF_PROMISC_IN_BSS flag
provided by mac80211, but also on the intf_ap_count count.
This makes sense, since when Master mode is active, we should all frames
that are send to the active AP (the device itself).
This means that when an interface is added we should force the
packet filter to be updated during the next mac80211 call of
configure_filter() to make sure the intf_ap_count field is checked.

Invert the check for scheduling the packet_filter configuration.
When DRIVER_REQUIRE_SCHEDULED is not set we should immediately
configure the the filter.
This fixes the 'infinite calls to rt2x00mc_configure_filter'
bug reported by Bas Hulsken.

This patch replaces static variable from send_cmd_sync
with flag in priv->status. It was used for reentrance protection
but clearly made it impossible to stuck more cards into the same machine

Having rate registration during module load enables the use of
error checking as well as reliable registration/unregistration
pairing. Previously this was not possible as rate registration
was done during _probe where _probe could be run for more than
one device on the system.

This patch fixed the OOPS when load the driver while rf-kill is on then
unload the driver right after load. a race condition caused the interupt
handler to schedule the tasklet which will run right after the driver pci_remove
causing invalid poiter OOPS.

This patch add notification function to be called by low level
iwl driver to notify iwlcore with current state. This function
will call iwlcore subsystem with the new state. This will
help make the code more consistent and easy to extend. For example
the rf-kill need to know when the driver in init, start, stop or
remove state. Instead doing the same call in 3945 and 4965, we
just do it from this function.

Confirm sleep event: they come very regularly, eventually several times per
second. Therefore we want to send the config command as fast as possible.
The old code pre-set the command in priv->lbs_ps_confirm_sleep. However, the
byte sequence to be sent to the hardware is the same for all interfaces. So
this patch make this an extern structure, initialized at module load time.
Config wake event: normal conversion to a direct command. However, I don't know
how to trigger a "HOST AWAKE" event from the firmware, so this part is
untested.

This patch corrects an error in the driver it8712f_wdt. You cannot set
the 16-bit WDT_TIMEOUT access as a 16-bit outw, because the byte
ordering will be wrong. So just do the high 8 bits as a separate
access.

Some time ago it turned out that our suspend code ordering broke some
NVidia-based systems that hung if _PTS was executed with one of the PCI
devices, specifically a USB controller, in a low power state.
Then, it was noticed that the suspend code ordering was not compliant
with ACPI 1.0, although it was compliant with ACPI 2.0 (and later), and
it was argued that the code had to be changed for that reason (ref.
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9528).
So we did, but evidently we did wrong, because it's now turning out that
some systems have been broken by this change. Refs:

[ I said at that time that something like this might happend, but the
majority of people involved thought that it was improbable due to the
necessity to preserve the compliance of hardware with ACPI 1.0. ]
This actually is a quite serious regression from 2.6.24.
Moreover, the ACPI 1.0 ordering of suspend code introduced another issue
that I have only noticed recently. Namely, if the suspend of one of
devices fails, the already suspended devices will be resumed without
executing _WAK before, which leads to problems on some systems (for
example, in such situations thermal management is broken on my HP
nx6325). Consequently, it also breaks suspend debugging on the affected
systems.
Note also, that the requirement to execute _PTS before suspending
devices does not really make sense, because the device in question may
be put into a low power state at run time for a reason unrelated to a
system-wide suspend.
For the reasons outlined above, the change of the suspend ordering
should be reverted, which is done by the patch below.

Plip uses spin_lock_irq/spin_unlock_irq in its IRQ handler (called from
parport IRQ handler), the latter enables interrupts without parport
subsystem IRQ handler expecting it.
The bug can be seen if you compile kernel with lock dependency checking
and use plip --- it produces a warning.
This patch changes it to spin_lock_irqsave/spin_lock_irqrestore, so that
it doesn't enable interrupts when already disabled.

Recent driver core change causes references to parent devices being
dropped early, at device_del() time, as opposed to when all children
are freed. This causes oops in evdev with grabbed devices. Take the
reference to the parent input device ourselves to ensure that it
stays around long enough.

When getting disconnected we need to release eventual grabs on the
underlying input device as we also release the input device itself.
Otherwise, we would try to release the grab when the client that
requested it closes its handle, accessing the input device which
might already be freed.

This patch fixes bits of the DRM so to make the radeon DRI work on
non-cache coherent PCI DMA variants of the PowerPC processors.
It moves the few places that needs change to wrappers to that
other architectures with similar issues can easily add their
own changes to those wrappers, at least until we have more useful
generic kernel API.

This interface was originally designed wrong, confusing bit-fields and
integers, major brown paper bag going back many years...
But userspace only ever used 4 values so fix the interface for new
users and fix the implementation to deal with the 4 values userspace
has ever emitted (0x1, 0x2, 0x3, 0x6).

It turned out that probing order change causes problems for some drives:

Since root causes are still being investigated and are unlikely to be fixed
before 2.6.25 lets revert this change for now. As a result cable detection
becomes less reliable when compared with 2.6.24 but the affected drives are
useable again.

There have been reported regressions of the SIL 680 driver when using MMIO, so
this makes it only try MMIO on Cell blades where it's known to be necessary
(the host bridge doesn't do PIO on these).
We'll try to find the root problem with MMIO separately.

This reorganization moves the PHY status into a separate
struct. Flow Control setup is moved into this struct as well
and frame size away from here into the adapter struct where its
inly use is.
The post-link-up code is now a separate function and moved out
of the watchdog function itself. This allows us to track the
es2lan restart issue a bit easier.

The functions time_before, time_before_eq, time_after, and time_after_eq are
more robust for comparing jiffies against other values.
So use the time_after() macro, defined in linux/jiffies.h, which deals with
wrapping correctly.

Convert 3c509 driver to isa_driver and pnp_driver. The result is that
autoloading using udev and hibernation works with ISA PnP cards. It also adds
hibernation support for non-PnP ISA cards.
xcvr module parameter was removed as its value was not used.
Tested using 3 ISA cards in various combinations of PnP and non-PnP modes.
EISA and MCA only compile-tested.

The asix usb driver currently depends on NET_ETHERNET which means you
cannot enable this driver if you only have 1000mbit enabled in your kernel.
Since there is no real dependency between the NET_ETHERNET portion and the
asix driver, simply drop it.

drivers/net/pasemi_mac.c is enabled by CONFIG_PASEMI_MAC, which depends on
PPC64 && PCI. However pasemi_mac.c uses several routines that are only
built when PPC_PASEMI is selected. This can lead to an unbuildable config:
ERROR: ".pasemi_dma_start_chan" [drivers/net/pasemi_mac.ko] undefined!
So make CONFIG_PASEMI_MAC depend on PPC_PASEMI instead of PPC64.

If "location" is > "addr_len" bits, the high bits of location would interfere
with the READ_CMD sent to the eeprom controller.
A patch was submitted to bug:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4420
which simply truncated the "location", read whatever was in "location
modulo addr_len", and returned that value. That avoids confusing the
eeprom but seems like the wrong solution to me.
Correct would be to not read beyond "1 << addr_len" address of the eeprom.
I am submitting two changes to implement this:
1) tulip_read_eeprom will return zero (since we can't return -EINVAL)
if this is attempted (defensive programming).
2) In tulip_core.c, fix the tulip_read_eeprom caller so they don't
iterate past addr_len bits and make sure the entire tp->eeprom[]
array is cleared.
I konw we don't strictly need both. I would prefer both in the tree
since it documents the issue and provides a second "defense" from
the bug from creeping back in.

The Coverity checker spotted that we leak the storage allocated to 'name' in

Fix regression in dm-crypt introduced in commit
3a7f6c990a ("dm crypt: use async crypto").
If write requests need to be split into pieces, the code must not process them
in parallel because the crypto context cannot be shared. So there can be
parallel crypto operations on one part of the write, but only one write bio
can be processed at a time.
This is not optimal and the workqueue code needs to be optimized for parallel
processing, but for now it solves the problem without affecting the
performance of synchronous crypto operation (most of current dm-crypt users).

The HP Compaq nc6120 has the same PCI sub-device ID as the nx6110, and the
SMBus is used by ACPI for thermal management on the nc6120, so Linux should
not attach a native driver to it. This means that this quirk is unsafe and
has to be removed.
I also added a comment to help developers realize that adding new IDs to this
SMBus unhiding quirk table should be done only with great care, and in
particular only after checking that ACPI is not making use of the SMBus.

The following patch allows ixp4xx-beeper to be loaded by udev
automatically when compiled as a module with kernel versions 2.4.24 and
greater.
This patch is required because 43cc71eed1
("platform: prefix MODALIAS with "platform:"") changed the modalias
string to have the extra prefix.

Because of a typo in iwch_accept_cr(), the cxgb3 connection handling
code programs the hardware IRD (incoming RDMA read queue depth) with
the value that is passed in for the ORD (outgoing RDMA read queue
depth). In particular this means that if an application passes in IRD
> 0 and ORD = 0 (which is a completely sane and valid thing to do for
an app that expects only incoming RDMA read requests), then the
hardware will end up programmed with IRD = 0 and the app will fail in
a mysterious way.
Fix this by using "ep->ird" instead of "ep->ord" in the intended place.

When a slot is busy, we will not free this slot until slot reset is
completed. When unplugged the disk, we should release all command
tasks with unplugged port that have been sent.
If MVS_USE_TASKLET is defined, we can enable tasklet. Default is off.
