1588 driver loses about 1us in adjtime operation at PTP slave
This is because adjtime operation uses a slow non-atomic tmr_cnt_read()
followed by tmr_cnt_write() operation.
In the above sequence, since the timer counter operation keeps
incrementing, it leads to latency. The tmr_offset register
(which is added to TMR_CNT_H/L register giving the current time)
must be programmed with the delta nanoseconds.

The enetc MDIO bus driver can perform both C22 and C45 transfers.
Create separate functions for each and register the C45 versions using
the new API calls where appropriate.
This driver is shared with the Felix DSA switch, so update that at the

Here is the set of driver core changes for 5.19-rc1.
Note, I'm not really happy with this pull request as-is, see below for
details, but overall this is all good for everything but a small set of
systems, which we have a fix for already.
Lots of tiny driver core changes and cleanups happened this cycle,
but the two major things were:
- firmware_loader reorganization and additions including the
ability to have XZ compressed firmware images and the ability
for userspace to initiate the firmware load when it needs to,
instead of being always initiated by the kernel. FPGA devices
specifically want this ability to have their firmware changed
over the lifetime of the system boot, and this allows them to
work without having to come up with yet-another-custom-uapi
interface for loading firmware for them.
- physical location support added to sysfs so that devices that
know this information, can tell userspace where they are
located in a common way. Some ACPI devices already support
this today, and more bus types should support this in the
future.
Smaller changes included:
- driver_override api cleanups and fixes
- error path cleanups and fixes
- get_abi script fixes
- deferred probe timeout changes.
It's that last change that I'm the most worried about. It has been
reported to cause boot problems for a number of systems, and I have a
tested patch series that resolves this issue. But I didn't get it
merged into my tree before 5.18-final came out, so it has not gotten any
linux-next testing.
I'll send the fixup patches (there are 2) as a follow-on series to this
pull request if you want to take them directly, _OR_ I can just revert
the probe timeout changes and they can wait for the next -rc1 merge
cycle. Given that the fixes are tested, and pretty simple, I'm leaning
toward that choice. Sorry this all came at the end of the merge window,
I should have resolved this all 2 weeks ago, that's my fault as it was
in the middle of some travel for me.
All have been tested in linux-next for weeks, with no reported issues
other than the above-mentioned boot time outs.

The devices on platform/amba/fsl-mc/PCI buses could be bound to drivers
with the device DMA managed by kernel drivers or user-space applications.
Unfortunately, multiple devices may be placed in the same IOMMU group
because they cannot be isolated from each other. The DMA on these devices
must either be entirely under kernel control or userspace control, never
a mixture. Otherwise the driver integrity is not guaranteed because they
could access each other through the peer-to-peer accesses which by-pass
the IOMMU protection.
This checks and sets the default DMA mode during driver binding, and
cleanups during driver unbinding. In the default mode, the device DMA is
managed by the device driver which handles DMA operations through the
kernel DMA APIs (see Documentation/core-api/dma-api.rst).
For cases where the devices are assigned for userspace control through the
userspace driver framework(i.e. VFIO), the drivers(for example, vfio_pci/
vfio_platfrom etc.) may set a new flag (driver_managed_dma) to skip this
default setting in the assumption that the drivers know what they are
doing with the device DMA.
Calling iommu_device_use_default_domain() before {of,acpi}_dma_configure
is currently a problem. As things stand, the IOMMU driver ignored the
initial iommu_probe_device() call when the device was added, since at
that point it had no fwspec yet. In this situation,
{of,acpi}_iommu_configure() are retriggering iommu_probe_device() after
the IOMMU driver has seen the firmware data via .of_xlate to learn that
it actually responsible for the given device. As the result, before
that gets fixed, iommu_use_default_domain() goes at the end, and calls
arch_teardown_dma_ops() if it fails.

The opening comment mark '/**' is used for kernel-doc comments.
There are certain comments in include/linux/fsl/guts.h which follows this
syntax, but the content inside does not comply with kernel-doc.
E.g., opening comment for "Freecale 85xx and 86xx Global Utilties

inside does not comply with any kernel-doc specification (function,
struct, etc).
This causes unwelcomed warning from kernel-doc:
"warning: expecting prototype for Freecale 85xx and 86xx Global Utilties register set(). Prototype was for __FSL_GUTS_H__() instead"
Replace all such comment occurrences with general comment format,

a mechanism to allow a layerscape device to specify a driver rather than

Example to allow a device (dprc.1) to specifically bind

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array
members have incomplete type[1]. There are some instances of code in
which the sizeof operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to
zero-length arrays and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding
some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also
help to get completely rid of those sorts of issues.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

Within the LS1028A SoC, the register map for the ENETC MDIO controller
is instantiated a few times: for the central (external) MDIO controller,
for the internal bus of each standalone ENETC port, and for the internal
bus of the Felix switch.
Refactoring is needed to support multiple MDIO buses from multiple
drivers. The enetc_hw structure is made an opaque type and a smaller
enetc_mdio_priv is created.
'mdio_base' - MDIO registers base address - is being parameterized, to
be able to work with different MDIO register bases.
The ENETC MDIO bus operations are exported from the fsl-enetc-mdio
kernel object, the same that registers the central MDIO controller (the
dedicated PF). The ENETC main driver has been changed to select it, and
use its exported helpers to further register its private MDIO bus. The
DSA Felix driver will do the same.

Passing the struct ptp_clock_info caps by parameter is passing over 130 bytes
of data by value on the stack. Optimize this by passing it by reference instead.
Also shinks the object code size:

The 1588 timer on eTSEC Ethernet controller uses different
register memory map with DPAA Ethernet controller.
Now the new ENETC Ethernet controller uses same reigster
memory map with DPAA. To support ENETC, let's use register
memory map of DPAA/ENETC in default.

There is QorIQ 1588 timer IP block on the new ENETC Ethernet
controller. However it uses little endian mode which is different
with before. This patch is to add little endian support for the
driver by using "little-endian" dts node property.

Moved QorIQ PTP clock initialization/free into new functions
ptp_qoriq_init()/ptp_qoriq_free(). These functions could also
be reused by ENETC PTP drvier which is a PCI driver for same
1588 timer IP block.

This patch is to make functions of ptp operations global,
so that ENETC PTP driver which is a PCI driver for same
1588 timer IP block could reuse them.

Strings containing "ptp_qoriq" or "qoriq_ptp" which were used for
structure/function names were complained by users. Let's just use
the unique "ptp_qoriq" to make these names more consistent.
This patch is just to unify the names using "ptp_qoriq". It hasn't
changed any functions.

This patch is to add debugfs support for ptp_qoriq. Current debugfs
supports to control fiper1/fiper2 loopback mode. If the loopback mode
is enabled, the fiper1/fiper2 pulse is looped back into trigger1/
trigger2 input. This is very useful for validating hardware and driver
without external hardware. Below is an example to enable fiper1 loopback.
echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/2d10e00.ptp_clock/fiper1-loopback

The external trigger stamp FIFO was introduced as a new feature
for QorIQ 1588 timer IP block. This patch is to support it by
adding a new dts property "fsl,extts-fifo". Any QorIQ 1588 timer
supporting this feature is required to add this property in its
dts node.
In addition, the FIFO should be cleaned up before enabling external
trigger interrupts. Otherwise, there will be interrupts immediately
just after enabling external trigger interrupts.

Allocatable devices can be acquired by drivers on the fsl-mc bus using
the fsl_mc_portal_allocate or fsl_mc_object_allocate functions. Add a
device link between the consumer device and the supplier device so that
proper resource management is achieved.
Also, adding a link between these devices ensures that a proper unbind
order is respected (ie before the supplier device is unbound from its
respective driver all consumer devices will be notified and unbound
first).

These updates bring:
- Debugfs support for the Intel VT-d driver. When enabled, it
now also exposes some of its internal data structures to
user-space for debugging purposes.
- ARM-SMMU driver now uses the generic deferred flushing
and fast-path iova allocation code. This is expected to be a
major performance improvement, as this allocation path scales
a lot better.
- Support for r8a7744 in the Renesas iommu driver
- Couple of minor fixes and improvements all over the place
