Komeda driver uses a individual component to describe the HW's writeback
caps, but drivers doesn't define a new structure and still uses the
existing "struct komeda_layer" to describe this new component.
The detailed changes as follow:
1. Initialize wb_layer according to HW and report it to CORE.
2. CORE exposes wb_layer as a resource to KMS by private_obj.
3. Report writeback supporting by add a wb_connector to KMS, and then
wb_connector will take act as a component resources user,
so the func komeda_wb_encoder_atomic_check claims komeda resources
(scaler and wb_layer) accroding to its state configuration to the
wb_connector. and the wb_state configuration will be validated on the
specific component resources to see if the caps of component can
meet the requirement of wb_connector. if not check failed.
4. Update irq_handler to notify the completion of writeback.
NOTE:
This change doesn't add scaling writeback support, that support will
be added in the future after the scaler support.

These are all more "GPL-2.0-or-later" or "GPL-2.0-only" tags being
added, based on the text in the files. We are slowly chipping away at
the 700+ different ways people tried to write the license text. All of
these were reviewed on the spdx mailing list by a number of different
people.
We now have over 60% of the kernel files covered with SPDX tags:

On the Arm Juno platform, the HDLCD pixel clock is constrained to 250KHz
resolution in order to avoid the tiny System Control Processor spending
aeons trying to calculate exact PLL coefficients. This means that modes
like my oddball 1600x1200 with 130.89MHz clock get rejected since the
rate cannot be matched exactly. In practice, though, this mode works
quite happily with the clock at 131MHz, so let's relax the check to
allow a little bit of slop.

Rather than allowing any old mode through, then subsequently refusing
unmatchable clock rates in atomic_check when it's too late to back out
and pick a different mode, let's do that validation up-front where it
will cause unsupported modes to be correctly pruned in the first place.
This also eliminates an issue whereby a perceived clock rate of 0 would
cause atomic disable to fail and prevent the module from being unloaded.

Fixing the DMA mapping sg segment warning, which shows "DMA-API: mapping
sg segment longer than device claims to support [len=921600] [max=65536]".
Fixed by setting the max segment size at Komeda driver.

So far, the drm_format_plane_cpp function was operating on the format's
fourcc and was doing a lookup to retrieve the drm_format_info structure and
return the cpp.
However, this is inefficient since in most cases, we will have the
drm_format_info pointer already available so we shouldn't have to perform a
new lookup. Some drm_fourcc functions also already operate on the
drm_format_info pointer for that reason, so the API is quite inconsistent
there.
Let's follow the latter pattern and remove the extra lookup while being a
bit more consistent. In order to be extra consistent, also rename that
function to drm_format_info_plane_cpp and to a static function in the
header to match the current policy.

are basically a lookup in the drm_format_info table plus an access to the
hsub and vsub fields of the appropriate entry.
Most drivers are using this function while having access to the entry
already, which means that we will perform an unnecessary lookup. Removing
the call to these functions is therefore more efficient.
Some drivers will not have access to that entry in the function, but in
this case the overhead is minimal (we just have to call drm_format_info()
to perform the lookup) and we can even avoid multiple, inefficient lookups
in some places that need multiple fields from the drm_format_info
structure.
This is amplified by the fact that most of the time the callers will have
to retrieve both the vsub and hsub fields, meaning that they would perform
twice the lookup.

Add two sysfs node: core_id, config_id, user can read them to fetch the

komeda_crtc_mode_valid compares the input mode->clk with main engine clk
and AXI clk, and reject the mode if the required pixel clk can not be
satisfied by main engine clk and AXI-clk.

Komeda driver treats KMS-CRTC/PLANE as user which will acquire pipeline
resources, but we still need to release the unclaimed resources.
crtc_atomic_check is the final check stage, so beside build a display data
pipeline according the crtc_state, but still needs to release/disable the
unclaimed pipeline resources.

Per komeda design KMS-plane maps to komeda layer input pipeline.
komeda_plane_atomic_check is for building a komeda layer input pipeline.
And KMS-plane is only a user of komeda resources. so there is no real HW
update for plane, but all HW update will be handled in crtc->flush.

build_layer_data_flow builds a input pipeline according to plane_state.
and in this initial stage only added this simplest pipeline usage:

Currently, the Kbuild core manipulates header search paths in a crazy
way [1].
To fix this mess, I want all Makefiles to add explicit $(srctree)/ to
the search paths in the srctree. Some Makefiles are already written in
that way, but not all. The goal of this work is to make the notation
consistent, and finally get rid of the gross hacks.
Having whitespaces after -I does not matter since commit 48f6e3cf5b
("kbuild: do not drop -I without parameter").

This pull requests adds initial Mali D71 support into the Arm "komeda" DRM
driver. The code has been reviewed at the end of last year, I just been
too slow with pushing it into mainline. Since it started baking in
linux-next we had a kbuild-bot issue raised and one from Joe Perches on
the MAINTAINERS entry, for which I'm including fixes here.

D71 consists of a number of Register Blocks, every Block controls a
specific HW function, every block has a common block_header to represent
its type and pipeline information.
GCU (Global Control Unit) is the first Block which describe the global
information of D71 HW, Like number of block contained and the number of
pipeline supported.
So the d71_enum_resources parsed GCU and create pipeline according
the GCU configuration, and then iterate and detect the blocks that
indicated by the GCU and block_header.
And this change also added two struct d71_dev/d71_pipeline to extend
komeda_dev/komeda_pipeline to add some d71 only members.

The drm_writeback_queue_job() function takes ownership of the passed job
and requires the caller to manually set the connector state
writeback_job pointer to NULL. To simplify drivers and avoid errors
(such as the missing NULL set in the vc4 driver), pass the connector
state pointer to the function instead of the job pointer, and set the
writeback_job pointer to NULL internally.

Considering the fact that some of the AFBC specific pixel formats are expressed
in bits per pixel (ie bpp which is not byte aligned), the pitch (ie width * bpp)
is not guaranteed to be aligned to burst size (ie 8 or 16 bytes).
For example, DRM_FORMAT_VUY101010 is 30 bits per pixel. For a framebuffer of
width 32 pixels, the pitch will be 120 bytes which is not aligned to burst size
(ie 16 bytes) for DP650.

Formats like DRM_FORMAT_VUY101010, DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_8BIT and
DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_10BIT are expressed in bits per pixel as they have a non
integer value of cpp (thus denoted as '0' in drm_format_info[]). Therefore,

In malidp, the writeback pipeline does not support writing crtc output
to a framebuffer with modifiers ie the memory writeback content is
devoid of any compression or tiling, etc.
So we have added a commit check in memory writeback encoder helper function
to validate if the framebuffer has any modifier and if so, return EINVAL.

The newly supported AFBC YUV formats have the following rotation memory
constraints (in DP550/DP650).
1. DRM_FORMAT_VUY888/DRM_FORMAT_VUY101010 :- It can rotate upto 8
horizontal lines in the AFBC output buffer.
2. DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_8BIT :- It can rotate upto 16 horizontal lines
in the AFBC output buffer.
Also some of the pixel formats are specified in bits per pixel (rather
than bytes per pixel), so the calculation needs to take note of this.
Besides there are some difference between DP550 and DP650 and these are
as follows:-
1. DRM_FORMAT_X0L2 (in uncompressed format) does not support rotation in
DP550. For DP650, it can rotate upto 16 horizontal lines in the AFBC
output buffer, whereas in DP550 (with AFBC), it can rotate upto 8
horizontal lines.
2. DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_10BIT :- It can rotate upto 8 horizontal lines in
dp550 and 16 horizontal lines in DP650.

We need to define a common list of format modifiers supported by each of
the Mali display processors.
The following are the constraints with AFBC:-
1. AFBC is not supported for the formats defined in
malidp_hw_format_is_linear_only()
2. Some of the formats are supported only with AFBC modifiers. Thus we have
introduced a new function 'malidp_hw_format_is_afbc_only()' which verifies
the same.
3. AFBC_FORMAT_MOD_YTR needs to be provided for any RGB format.
4. Formats <= 16bpp cannot support AFBC_FORMAT_MOD_SPLIT.
5. CBR should not be set for non-subsampled formats.
6. SMART layer does not support framebuffer with AFBC modifiers.
Return -EINVAL for such a scenario.
7. AFBC_FORMAT_MOD_YTR is not supported for any YUV formats.
8. Formats which are subsampled cannot support AFBC_FORMAT_MOD_SPLIT.
However in DP550, YUV_420_10BIT is supported with AFBC_FORMAT_MOD_SPLIT.
This feature has been identified with
MALIDP_DEVICE_AFBC_YUV_420_10_SUPPORT_SPLIT.
9. In DP550 and DP650, for YUYV, the hardware supports different
format-ids to be used with and without AFBC modifier. We have used the
feature 'MALIDP_DEVICE_AFBC_YUYV_USE_422_P2' to identify this
characteristic.
10. DP500 does not support split mode (ie AFBC_FORMAT_MOD_SPLIT). We have
used the feature 'MALIDP_DEVICE_AFBC_SUPPORT_SPLIT' to identify the DPs
which support SPLIT mode.
11. DP550 supports YUV420 with split mode. We have defined the feature
'AFBC_SUPPORT_SPLIT_WITH_YUV_420_10' to identify this characteristic.

DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_8BIT (single plane YUV 420 8 bit format)
DRM_FORMAT_VUY888 (single plane YUV 444 8 bit format)
DRM_FORMAT_VUY101010 (single plane YUV 444 10 bit format)
DRM_FORMAT_YUV420_10BIT (single plane YUV 420 10 bit format)
Generally, these formats are supported by our hardware using the same
hw-ids as the equivalent multi plane pixel formats.

Added the AFBC decoder registers for DP500 , DP550 and DP650.
These registers control the processing of AFBC buffers. It controls various
features like AFBC decoder enable, lossless transformation and block split
as well as setting of the left, right, top and bottom cropping of AFBC
buffers (in number of pixels).
All the layers (except DE_SMART) support framebuffers with AFBC modifiers.
One needs to set the pixel values of the top, left, bottom and right
cropping for the AFBC framebuffer.
Cropping an AFBC framebuffer is controlled by the AFBC crop registers.
In that case, the layer input size registers should be configured with
framebuffer's dimensions and not with drm_plane_state source width/height
values (which is used for non AFBC framebuffer to denote cropping).

With drmP.h removed from drm_modeset_helper.h the build of
komeda filed as reported by linux-next
Add missing include files to fix build.
For the files touched group include files and sort them.
The fix was tested on a tree with drm-misc-next merged.
And the patch was also tested to work without drm-misc-next merged.
Build tested on arm + x86.

Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in
the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is
confusing. Split them out.
To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all
drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of
drm_crtc_helper.h includes.
v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers
that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1.
v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but
not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h
there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means
rolling out lots more includes all over.
This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I
expect.

komeda_format_caps is for describing ARM display specific features and
limitations of a specific format, and format_caps will be linked into
&komeda_framebuffer like a extension of &drm_format_info.
And komed_format_caps_table will be initialized before the enum_resources,
since the layer features description depend on this format_caps table, so
we'd better initialize the table first.

Also add a very simple D71 layer code to show how to discover a product.

AFBC buffers include additional metadata which increases the required
allocation size. Implement the appropriate size validation and sanity
checking for AFBC buffers.
Added malidp specific function for framebuffer creation. This checks
if the framebuffer has AFBC modifiers and if so, it verifies the
necessary constraints on the size, alignment, offsets and pitch.

Add support for compressed framebuffers that are described using
the framebuffer's modifier field. Mali DP uses the rotation memory for
the decompressor of the format, so we need to check for space when
the modifiers are present.

Mali-DP650 supports warming up the SMMU translations, by sending
requsts to the SMMU before a buffer is read.
There are two modes supported:
- PARTIAL: could be enabled when the buffer is composed of 4K or 64K
pages, the display hardware will send a configurable number of
requests before the actual reading.
- FULL: could be enabled when the buffer is composed of 1M or 2M
pages, the display hardware will send requests before reading for
all pages composing the buffer.
This patch adds a mechanism for detecting the page size and set the
MMU prefetch mode if possible.

drm_gem_cma_object.sgt instead of calling
driver.gem_prime_get_sg_table, which works just for buffers
allocated through the gem_cma API.

Checks the pixel blending mode and plane alpha value when
do the plane_check. Mali DP supports blending the current plane
with the background either based on the pixel alpha blending
mode or by using the layer's alpha value, but not both at the
same time. If both case, plane_check will return failed.
Sets the HW when doing plane_update accordingly. If plane alpha
is the 0xffff, set the pixel blending bits accordingly. If not
we'd set ALPHA bit as zero and layer alpha value.

Smart layer enable rectangles is set to 1 when the driver is probed,
however when doing pm_suspend the value is lost and it's not set again
making the SMART_LAYER unusable, fix that by initializing the number
of rectangles everytime we do a plane update.

When we want to writeback to memory in NV12 format we need to program
the RGB2YUV coefficients. Currently, we don't program the coefficients
and NV12 doesn't work at all.
This patchset fixes that by programming a sane default(bt709, limited
range) as rgb2yuv coefficients.
In the long run, probably we need to think of a way for userspace to
be able to program that, but for now I think this is better than not
working at all or not advertising NV12 as a supported format for
memwrite.

Currently, if userspace calls drm_wait_vblank before the crtc is
activated the crtc vblank_enable hook is called, which in case of
malidp driver triggers some warninngs. This happens because on
device init we don't inform the drm core about the vblank state
by calling drm_crtc_vblank_on/off/reset which together with
drm_vblank_get have some magic that prevents calling drm_vblank_enable
when crtc is off.

The CMA helper is already using the drm_fb_helper_generic_probe part of
the generic fbdev emulation. This patch makes full use of the generic
fbdev emulation by using its drm_client callbacks. This means that
drm_mode_config_funcs->output_poll_changed and drm_driver->lastclose are
now handled by the emulation code. Additionally fbdev unregister happens
automatically on drm_dev_unregister().
The drm_fbdev_generic_setup() call is put after drm_dev_register() in the
driver. This is done to highlight the fact that fbdev emulation is an
internal client that makes use of the driver, it is not part of the
driver as such. If fbdev setup fails, an error is printed, but the driver
succeeds probing.

A new helper function(__drm_atomic_helper_plane_reset) has been added
for linking a plane with its state and resetting the core
properties(alpha, rotation, etc.) to their default values.
Use that instead of duplicating the logic.

The HDLCD engine needs an active plane while the CRTC is active, as
it will start scanning out data from HDLCD_REG_FB_BASE once it gets
enabled. Make sure that the only available plane doesn't get disabled
while the CRTC remains active, as this will scanout invalid data.

The plane cleanup handler currently calls drm_plane_helper_disable(),
which is a legacy helper function. Replace it with a call to
drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at removal time. The plane .destroy()
handler now consisting only of a call to drm_plane_cleanup(), replace it
with direct calls to that function.

Use drm_fb_cma_fbdev_init() and drm_fb_cma_fbdev_fini() which relies on
the fact that drm_device holds a pointer to the drm_fb_helper structure.
This means that the driver doesn't have to keep track of that.
Also use the drm_fb_helper functions directly.

Older version of this patch series reported writeback as disconnected
to avoid confusing userspace not aware of writeback connectors.
However, the version that got merged uses a special cap
(DRM_CLIENT_CAP_WRITEBACK_CONNECTORS) for this purpose.
This helps us avoid some special handling of writeback connector
in drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes, see [1].

malidp_pm_suspend_late checks if the runtime status is not suspended
and if so, invokes malidp_runtime_pm_suspend which disables the
display engine/core interrupts and the clocks. It sets the runtime status
as suspended.
The difference between suspend() and suspend_late() is as follows:-
1. suspend() makes the device quiescent. In our case, we invoke the DRM
helper which disables the CRTC. This would have invoked runtime pm
suspend but the system suspend process disables runtime pm.
2. suspend_late() It continues the suspend operations of the drm device
which was started by suspend(). In our case, it performs the same functionality
as runtime_suspend().
The complimentary functions are resume() and resume_early(). In the case of
resume_early(), we invoke malidp_runtime_pm_resume() which enables the clocks
and the interrupts. It sets the runtime status as active. If the device was
in runtime suspend mode before system suspend was called, pm_runtime_work()
will put the device back in runtime suspended mode( after the complete system
has been resumed).

One needs to store the value of the OUTPUT_DEPTH that one has parsed from
device tree, so that it can be restored on system resume. This value is
set in the modeset function as this gets reset when the system suspends.

Display and scaling engine interrupts need to be disabled when the
runtime pm invokes malidp_runtime_pm_suspend(). Conversely, they
need to be enabled in malidp_runtime_pm_resume().

Malidp uses two interrupts ie 1. se_irq - used for memory writeback.
and 2. de_irq - used for display output.
Extract the hardware initialization part from malidp interrupt registration
ie (malidp_de_irq_init()/ malidp_se_irq_init()) into a separate function
(ie malidp_de_irq_hw_init()/malidp_se_irq_hw_init())
which will be later invoked from runtime_pm_resume function when it needs
to re-enable the interrupts.

Malidp uses two interrupts ie 1. se_irq - used for memory writeback.
and 2. de_irq - used for display output.
'struct drm_device' is being replaced with 'struct malidp_hw_device'
as the function argument. The reason being the dependency of
malidp_de_irq_fini on 'struct drm_device' needs to be removed so as to
enable it to call from functions which receives 'struct malidp_hw_device'
as argument. Furthermore, there is no way to retrieve 'struct drm_device'
from 'struct malidp_hw_device'.

Status register contains a lot of bits for reporting internal errors
inside Mali DP. Currently, we just silently ignore all of the errors,
that doesn't help when we are investigating different bugs, especially
on the FPGA models which have a lot of constraints, so we could easily
end up in AXI or underrun errors.
Add a new file called debug that contains an aggregate of the
errors reported by the Mali DP hardware.

Mali DP500 operates in continuous writeback mode (writes frame content
until stopped) and it needs special handling in order to behave like
a one-shot writeback engine. The original state machine added for DP500
was a bit fragile, as it did not handle correctly cases where a new
atomic commit was in progress when the SE IRQ happens and it would
commit some partial updates.
Improve the handling by adding a parameter to the set_config_valid()
function to clear the config valid bit in hardware before starting a
new commit and by introducing a MW_RESTART state in the writeback
state machine to cater for the case where a new writeback commit
gets submitted while the last one is still being active.

Mali-DP has a memory writeback engine which can be used to write the
composition result to a memory buffer. Expose this functionality as a
DRM writeback connector on supported hardware.

Mali DP500 behaves differently from the rest of the Mali DP IP,
in that it does not have a one-shot mode and keeps writing the
content of the current frame to the provided memory area until
stopped. As a way of emulating the one-shot behaviour, we are
going to use the CVAL interrupt that is being raised at the
start of each frame, during prefetch phase, to act as End-of-Write
signal, but with a twist: we are going to disable the memory
write engine right after we're notified that it has been enabled,
using the knowledge that the bit controlling the enabling will
only be acted upon on the next vblank/prefetch.
CVAL interrupt will fire durint the next prefetch phase every time
the global CVAL bit gets set, so we need a state byte to track
the memory write enabling. We also need to pay attention during the
disabling of the memory write engine as that requires the CVAL bit
to be set in the control register, but we don't want to do that
during an atomic commit, as it will write into the hardware a partial
state.

Mali-DP display processors are able to write the composition result to a
memory buffer via the SE.
Add entry points in the HAL for enabling/disabling this feature, and
implement support for it on DP650 and DP550. DP500 acts differently and
so is omitted from this change.

a pointer to a drm_modeset_acquire_ctx structure was added as an
argument to the method prototypes. The transitional helpers are
supposed to be directly plugged in as implementations of these
methods, but doing so generates a warning. Add the missing
argument.
A number of buggy users were added for drm_plane_helper_disable()
which need to be fixed up for this change, which we do by passing
a NULL ctx argument.

On some Mali-DP processors, the LAYER_FORMAT register contains fields
other than the format. These bits were unconditionally cleared when
setting the pixel format, whereas they should be preserved at their
reset values.

In the situation that DE and SE aren’t shared the same interrupt number,
the Global SE interrupts mask bit MASK_IRQ_EN in MASKIRQ must be set, or
else other mask bits will not work and no SE interrupt will occur. This
patch enables MASK_IRQ_EN for SE to fix this problem.

One needs to ensure that the crtcs are shutdown so that the
drm_crtc_state->connector_mask reflects that no connectors
are currently active. Further, it reduces the reference
count for each connector. This ensures that the connectors
and encoders can be cleanly removed either when _unbind
is called for the corresponding drivers or by
drm_mode_config_cleanup().
We need drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() to be called before
component_unbind_all() otherwise the connectors attached to the
component device will have the wrong reference count value and will not
be cleanly removed.

Internally Mali DP uses an RGB pipeline so video layers that support
YUV input buffers need to convert the input data to RGB. The YUV
buffers can have various encodings and this patch introduces support
for BT.601, BT.709 and BT.2020 encodings, both limited and full ranges.
This patch adds support for specifying the color encoding of the
input buffers for the planes that are backed by the video layers
and programs the YUV2RGB coefficients into hardware based on the
selected encoding.

When unbinding the mali-dp driver the drm_vblank_cleanup() function
warns us that the vblanks are still enabled. Fix that by calling
drm_crtc_vblank_off() in the malidp_unbind() function.

The top-level error handler calls drm_mode_config_cleanup() which will
destroy all planes. There's no need to destroy them manually in lower
error handlers.
As plane cleanup is now handled entirely by drm_mode_config_cleanup(),
we must ensure that the plane .destroy() handler frees allocated memory
for the plane object that was freed by malidp_de_planes_destroy(). Do so
by replacing the call to devm_kfree() in the .destroy() handler by
kfree(). devm_kfree() is currently a no-op as the plane memory is
allocated with kzalloc(), not devm_kzalloc().

Mali DP hardware has a 'go' bit (config_valid) for making the new scene
parameters active at the next page flip. The problem with the current
code is that the driver first sets this bit and then proceeds to wait
for confirmation from the hardware that the configuration has been
updated before arming the vblank event. As config_valid is actually
asserted by the hardware after the vblank event, during the prefetch
phase, when we get to arming the vblank event we are going to send it
at the next vblank, in effect halving the vblank rate from the userspace
perspective.
Fix it by sending the userspace event from the IRQ handler, when we
handle the config_valid interrupt, which syncs with the time when the
hardware is active with the new parameters.

In the case, when the user wants to scale and rotate a layer by 90/270
degrees, the scaling engine input dimensions' parameters ie width and
height needs to be swapped with respect to the layer's input dimensions.
This means scaling engine input height should be set to layer's input
width and scaling engine input width should be set to
layer's input height.

Currently the scaling engine gets enabled for a plane where the input
size differs from the composition size. As rotation is done natively
by the plane's hardware layer, we don't need the scaling engine to be
enabled.

Mali DP hardware needs pitch line sizes aligned to the bus burst
size for reads, so take that into consideration when allocating dumb
buffers. If the layer is rotated then the stride size requirement is
even larger for some hardware versions, so allocate for the worst case
scenario. Update the ->dumb_create() hook to a driver specific function
that sets the correct pitch size.

Rotated planes need a pitch size that is aligned to 8 bytes
for older DP500 and DP550 and at least 64 bytes for DP650. Replace
the malidp_hw_pitch_valid() function with one that calculates
the correct pitch alignment to take into account rotation.

Note that this replaces crtc_state->adjusted_mode usage with
crtc_state->mode. The latter is the correct choice since that's the
mode the user provided and it matches the plane crtc coordinates
the user also provided.
Once everyone agrees on this we can move the clip handling into
drm_atomic_helper_check_plane_state().

The malidp_hw_device structure that the driver uses to handle the
differences between versions of the IP contains both non-changeable
data and fields that get updated at probe time. Previously we were
copying the read-only part into allocated memory, but that can be
completely avoided by splitting the structure into a read-only part
and keeping the runtime modifiable fields into the old structure.

Use drm_*_get() and drm_*_put() helpers instead of drm_*_reference()
and drm_*_unreference() helpers.
drm_*_reference() and drm_*_unreference() functions are just
compatibility alias for drm_*_get() and drm_*_put() and should not be
used by new code. So convert all users of compatibility functions to
use the new APIs.

drm_plane_helper_check_state() is supposed to do things the atomic way,
so it should not be inspecting crtc->enabled. Rather we should be
looking at crtc_state->enable.
We have a slight complication due to drm_plane_helper_check_update()
reusing drm_plane_helper_check_state() for non-atomic drivers. Thus
we'll have to pass the crtc_state in manally and construct a fake
crtc_state in drm_plane_helper_check_update().

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.
