Daniel Vetter 3fcdcb2709 drm/vblank: Switch to bool in_vblank_irq in get_vblank_timestamp
It's overkill to have a flag parameter which is essentially used just
as a boolean. This takes care of core + adjusting drivers.

Adjusting the scanout position callback is a bit harder, since radeon
also supplies it's own driver-private flags in there.

v2: Fixup misplaced hunks (Neil).

v3: kbuild says v1 was better ...

Daniel Vetter d673c02c4b drm/vblank: Switch drm_driver->get_vblank_timestamp to return a bool
There's really no reason for anything more:
- Calling this while the crtc vblank stuff isn't set up is a driver
  bug. Those places alrready DRM_ERROR.
- Calling this when the crtc is off is either a driver bug (calling
drm_crtc_handle_vblank at the wrong time) or a core bug (for
  anything else). Again, we DRM_ERROR.
- EINVAL is checked at higher levels already, and if we'd use struct
drm_crtc * instead of (dev, pipe) it would be real obvious that
  those are again core bugs.

The only valid failure mode is crap hardware that couldn't sample a
useful timestamp, to ask the core to just grab a not-so-accurate
timestamp. Bool is perfectly fine for that.

v2: Also fix up the one caller, I lost that in the shuffling (Jani).

v3: Fixup commit message (Neil).

Eric Anholt b3f7787b46 drm/vc4: Add specific compatible strings for Cygnus.
Cygnus has V3D 2.6 instead of 2.1, and doesn't use the VC4 display
modules. The V3D can be uniquely identified by the IDENT[01]
registers, and there's nothing to key off of for the display change
other than the lack of DT nodes for the display components, but it's
convention to have new compatible strings anyway.

There's no sense in having an fbdev if there's no display, since

Eric Anholt 553c942f8b drm/vc4: Allow using more than 256MB of CMA memory.
Until now, we've had to limit Raspberry Pi to 256MB of CMA memory to
keep from triggering the hardware addressing bug between the tile
binner and the tile alloc memory (where the top 4 bits come from the
tile state data array's address).

To work around that and allow more memory to be reserved for graphics,
allocate a single BO to store tile state data arrays and tile
alloc/overflow memory while the GPU is active, and make sure that that
one BO doesn't happen to cross a 256MB boundary. With that in place,
we can allocate textures and shaders anywhere in system memory (still
contiguous, of course).

Convert drivers to use the new of_graph_get_remote_node() helper
instead of parsing the endpoint node and then getting the remote device
node. Now drivers can just specify the device node and which
port/endpoint and get back the connected remote device node. The details
of the graph binding are nicely abstracted into the core OF graph code.

This changes some error messages to debug messages (in the graph core).
Graph connections are often "no connects" depending on the particular
board, so we want to avoid spurious messages. Plus the kernel is not a
DT validator.

Atomic helpers really want this instead of the hacked-up legacy

Eric Anholt bb7d785688 drm/vc4: Add HDMI audio support
The HDMI encoder IP embeds all needed blocks to output audio, with a
custom DAI called MAI moving audio between the two parts of the HDMI
core. This driver now exposes a sound card to let users stream audio
to their display.

Using the hdmi-codec driver has been considered here, but MAI meant
having to significantly rework hdmi-codec, and it would have left
little shared code with the I2S mode anyway.

The encoder requires that the audio be SPDIF-formatted frames only,
which alsalib will format-convert for us.

This patch is the combined work of Eric Anholt (initial register setup
with a separate dmaengine driver and using simple-audio-card) and
Boris Brezillon (moving it all into HDMI, massive debug to get it
actually working), and which Eric has the permission to release.

Andrzej Pietrasiewicz 49d29a077a drm: vc4: adapt to new behaviour of drm_crtc.c
When drm_crtc_init_with_planes() was orignally added
(in drm_crtc.c, e13161af80
drm: Add drm_crtc_init_with_planes() (v2)), it only checked for "primary"
being non-null. If that was the case, it modified primary->possible_crtcs.

Then, when support for cursor planes was added
(fc1d3e44ef drm: Allow drivers to register
cursor planes with crtc), the same behaviour was implemented for cursor
planes.

vc4_plane_init() since its inception has passed 0xff as "possible_crtcs"
parameter to drm_universal_plane_init(). With a change in drm_crtc.c
(7abc7d4751 drm: don't override
possible_crtcs for primary/cursor planes) passing 0xff results in primary's
possible_crtcs set to 0xff (cursor was updated manually by vc4_crtc.c).
Consequently, it would be allowed to use the primary plane from CRTC 1 (for
example) on CRTC 0, which would result in the overlay and cursors being
buried.

Colin Ian King fce6a7bc22 drm/vc4: simplify exit path of a failed allocation of dsi_connector
If dsi_connector fails to allocate, the exit path via label 'fail'
checks if connector is null, which it always is, so the cleanup
that destroys connector is never going to be called. Hence the
failure path can be more optimally performed by removing this
and just returning ERR_PTR(-ENOMEM). This also removes the need

Chris Wilson 4e64e5539d drm: Improve drm_mm search (and fix topdown allocation) with rbtrees
The drm_mm range manager claimed to support top-down insertion, but it
was neither searching for the top-most hole that could fit the
allocation request nor fitting the request to the hole correctly.

In order to search the range efficiently, we create a secondary index
for the holes using either their size or their address. This index
allows us to find the smallest hole or the hole at the bottom or top of
the range efficiently, whilst keeping the hole stack to rapidly service
evictions.

Jonas Pfeil c778cc5df9 drm/vc4: Add fragment shader threading support
FS threading brings performance improvements of 0-20% in glmark2.

The validation code checks for thread switch signals and ensures that
the registers of the other thread are not touched, and that our clamps
are not live across thread switches. It also checks that the
threading and branching instructions do not interfere.

(Original patch by Jonas, changes by anholt for style cleanup,
removing validation the kernel doesn't need to do, and adding the flag
for userspace).

Eric Anholt 3a62234680 drm/vc4: Use runtime autosuspend to avoid thrashing V3D power state.
The pm_runtime_put() we were using immediately released power on the
device, which meant that we were generally turning the device off and
on once per frame. In many profiles I've looked at, that added up to
about 1% of CPU time, but this could get worse in the case of frequent
rendering and readback (as may happen in X rendering). By keeping the
device on until we've been idle for a couple of frames, we drop the
overhead of runtime PM down to sub-.1%.

Eric Anholt 7154d76fed drm/vc4: Add support for rendering with ETC1 textures.
The validation for it ends up being quite simple, but I hadn't got
around to it before merging the driver. For backwards compatibility,
we also need to add a flag so that the userspace GL driver can easily
tell if the kernel will allow ETC1 textures (on an old kernel, it will
continue to convert to RGBA8)

Eric Anholt 457e67a728 drm/vc4: Fix termination of the initial scan for branch targets.
The loop is scanning until the original max_ip (size of the BO), but
we want to not examine any code after the PROG_END's delay slots.
There was a block trying to do that, except that we had some early
continue statements if the signal wasn't a PROG_END or a BRANCH.

The failure mode would be that a valid shader is rejected because some
undefined memory after the PROG_END slots is parsed as a branch and
the rest of its setup is illegal. I haven't seen this in the wild,
but valgrind was complaining when about this up in the userland
simulator mode.

Chris Wilson 0853695c3b drm: Add reference counting to drm_atomic_state
drm_atomic_state has a complicated single owner model that tracks the
single reference from allocation through to destruction on another
thread - or perhaps on a local error path. We can simplify this tracking
by using reference counting (at a cost of a few more atomics). This is
even more beneficial when the lifetime of the state becomes more
convoluted than being passed to a single worker thread for the commit.

Eric Anholt 682e62c454 drm/vc4: Fix support for interlaced modes on HDMI.
We really do need to be using the halved V fields. I had been
confused by the code I was using as a reference because it stored
halved vsync fields but not halved vdisplay, so it looked like I only
needed to divide vdisplay by 2.

This reverts part of Mario's timestamping fixes that prevented
CRTC_HALVE_V from applying, and instead adjusts the timestamping code
to not use the crtc field in that case.

Fixes locking of 1920x1080x60i on my Dell 2408WFP. There are black

call for a plane if the CRTC of the old plane state needs a modesetting
operation. Of course, the drivers need to disable the planes in their CRTC
disable callbacks since no one else would do that.

Eric Anholt 67f13690f4 drm/vc4: Don't force new binner overflow allocation per draw.
This came from the initial bringup code, which always idled the GPU
and always reset the overflow. That massively increases the size of
the working set when you're doing lots of small draws, though, as is
common on X desktops or piglit.

Eric Anholt 9326e6f255 drm/vc4: Fix overflow mem unreferencing when the binner runs dry.
Overflow memory handling is tricky: While it's still referenced by the
BPO registers, we want to keep it from being freed. When we are
putting a new set of overflow memory in the registers, we need to
assign the old one to the last rendering job using it.

We were looking at "what's currently running in the binner", but since
the bin/render submission split, we may end up with the binner
completing and having no new job while the renderer is still
processing. So, if we don't find a bin job at all, look at the
highest-seqno (last) render job to attach our overflow to.

Eric Anholt def9652770 drm/vc4: Free hang state before destroying BO cache.
The BO cache will complain if BOs are still allocated when we try to

Eric Anholt ece7267dcc drm/vc4: Use drm_malloc_ab to fix large rendering jobs.
If you exceeded the size that kmalloc would return, you'd get a dmesg

allocations with vmalloc, and drm_malloc_ab makes that decision.

We must not apply CRTC_INTERLACE_HALVE_V to interlaced modes during

Also mode_fixup interlaced modes passed in from user space.

Daniel Vetter 44adece57e drm/fb-helper: Add a dummy remove_conflicting_framebuffers
Lots of drivers don't properly compile without this when CONFIG_FB=n.
It's kinda a hack, but since CONFIG_FB doesn't stub any fucntions when
it's disabled I think it makes sense to add it to drm_fb_helper.h.

Long term we probably need to rethink all the logic to unload firmware
framebuffer drivers, at least if we want to be able to move away from
CONFIG_FB and fbcon.

v2: Unfortunately just stubbing out remove_conflicting_framebuffers in
drm_fb_helper.h upset gcc about static vs. non-static declarations, so
a new wrapper it needs to be. Means more churn :(

Eric Anholt 6d45c81d22 drm/vc4: Add support for branching in shader validation.
We're already checking that branch instructions are between the start
of the shader and the proper PROG_END sequence. The other thing we
need to make branching safe is to verify that the shader doesn't read
past the end of the uniforms stream.

To do that, we require that at any basic block reading uniforms have
the following instructions:

load_imm temp, <next offset within uniform stream>
add unif_addr, temp, unif

The instructions are generated by userspace, and the kernel verifies
that the load_imm is of the expected offset, and that the add adds it
to a uniform. We track which uniform in the stream that is, and at
draw call time fix up the uniform stream to have the address of the
start of the shader's uniforms at that location.
