KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki daaf1e6887 memcg: handle panic_on_oom=always case
Presently, if panic_on_oom=2, the whole system panics even if the oom
happend in some special situation (as cpuset, mempolicy....). Then,
panic_on_oom=2 means painc_on_oom_always.

Now, memcg doesn't check panic_on_oom flag. This patch adds a check.

BTW, how it's useful ?

kdump+panic_on_oom=2 is the last tool to investigate what happens in
oom-ed system. When a task is killed, the sysytem recovers and there will
be few hint to know what happnes. In mission critical system, oom should
never happen. Then, panic_on_oom=2+kdump is useful to avoid next OOM by
knowing precise information via snapshot.

TODO:
 - For memcg, it's for isolate system's memory usage, oom-notiifer and
   freeze_at_oom (or rest_at_oom) should be implemented. Then, management
   daemon can do similar jobs (as kdump) or taking snapshot per cgroup.

Kirill A. Shutemov 2e72b6347c memcg: implement memory thresholds
It allows to register multiple memory and memsw thresholds and gets
notifications when it crosses.

To register a threshold application need:
- create an eventfd;
- open memory.usage_in_bytes or memory.memsw.usage_in_bytes;
- write string like "<event_fd> <memory.usage_in_bytes> <threshold>" to
  cgroup.event_control.

Application will be notified through eventfd when memory usage crosses
threshold in any direction.

It's applicable for root and non-root cgroup.

It uses stats to track memory usage, simmilar to soft limits. It checks
if we need to send event to userspace on every 100 page in/out. I guess
it's good compromise between performance and accuracy of thresholds.

Kirill A. Shutemov 0dea116876 cgroup: implement eventfd-based generic API for notifications
This patchset introduces eventfd-based API for notifications in cgroups
and implements memory notifications on top of it.

It uses statistics in memory controler to track memory usage.

Output of time(1) on building kernel on tmpfs:

Root cgroup before changes:
	make -j2  506.37 user 60.93s system 193% cpu 4:52.77 total
Non-root cgroup before changes:
	make -j2  507.14 user 62.66s system 193% cpu 4:54.74 total
Root cgroup after changes (0 thresholds):
	make -j2  507.13 user 62.20s system 193% cpu 4:53.55 total
Non-root cgroup after changes (0 thresholds):
	make -j2  507.70 user 64.20s system 193% cpu 4:55.70 total
Root cgroup after changes (1 thresholds, never crossed):
	make -j2  506.97 user 62.20s system 193% cpu 4:53.90 total
Non-root cgroup after changes (1 thresholds, never crossed):
	make -j2  507.55 user 64.08s system 193% cpu 4:55.63 total

This patch:

Introduce the write-only file "cgroup.event_control" in every cgroup.

To register new notification handler you need:
- create an eventfd;
- open a control file to be monitored. Callbacks register_event() and
  unregister_event() must be defined for the control file;
- write "<event_fd> <control_fd> <args>" to cgroup.event_control.
  Interpretation of args is defined by control file implementation;

eventfd will be woken up by control file implementation or when the
cgroup is removed.

To unregister notification handler just close eventfd.

If you need notification functionality for a control file you have to
implement callbacks register_event() and unregister_event() in the
struct cftype.

Daisuke Nishimura 024914477e memcg: move charges of anonymous swap
This patch is another core part of this move-charge-at-task-migration
feature. It enables moving charges of anonymous swaps.

To move the charge of swap, we need to exchange swap_cgroup's record.

In current implementation, swap_cgroup's record is protected by:

  - page lock: if the entry is on swap cache.
  - swap_lock: if the entry is not on swap cache.

This works well in usual swap-in/out activity.

But this behavior make the feature of moving swap charge check many
conditions to exchange swap_cgroup's record safely.

So I changed modification of swap_cgroup's recored(swap_cgroup_record())
to use xchg, and define a new function to cmpxchg swap_cgroup's record.

This patch also enables moving charge of non pte_present but not uncharged
swap caches, which can be exist on swap-out path, by getting the target
pages via find_get_page() as do_mincore() does.

Daisuke Nishimura 7dc74be032 memcg: add interface to move charge at task migration
In current memcg, charges associated with a task aren't moved to the new
cgroup at task migration. Some users feel this behavior to be strange.
These patches are for this feature, that is, for charging to the new
cgroup and, of course, uncharging from the old cgroup at task migration.

This patch adds "memory.move_charge_at_immigrate" file, which is a flag
file to determine whether charges should be moved to the new cgroup at
task migration or not and what type of charges should be moved. This
patch also adds read and write handlers of the file.

This patch also adds no-op handlers for this feature. These handlers will
be implemented in later patches. And you cannot write any values other
than 0 to move_charge_at_immigrate yet.

Paul Menage 7823da36ce cgroups: update documentation of cgroups tasks and procs files
Update documentation of cgroups tasks and procs files

Document the cgroup.procs file.

Clarify the semantics of the cgroup.procs and tasks files. Although the
current cgroup.procs interface returns a sorted and uniqified list of
pids, potential future performance enhancements could result in those
properties being removed - explicitly document this aspect of the API.

There are no existing users of cgroup.procs, so compatibility isn't an
issue. There are users of the "tasks" file, but none that would appear to
break in the event of the sorted property being broken. The standard
"libcpuset" explicitly sorts the results of reading from the tasks file,
and "libcg" and other users don't appear to care about ordering.

Balbir Singh a6df63615b memory controller: soft limit documentation
Soft limits is a new feature for the memory resource controller, something
similar has existed in the group scheduler in the form of shares. The CPU
controllers interpretation of shares is very different though.

Soft limits are the most useful feature to have for environments where the
administrator wants to overcommit the system, such that only on memory
contention do the limits become active. The current soft limits
implementation provides a soft_limit_in_bytes interface for the memory
controller and not for memory+swap controller. The implementation
maintains an RB-Tree of groups that exceed their soft limit and starts
reclaiming from the group that exceeds this limit by the maximum amount.

This patch:

Alter the ss->can_attach and ss->attach functions to be able to deal with

Currently, new mode of the attach function can only tell the subsystem
about the old cgroup of the threadgroup leader. No subsystem currently
needs that information for each thread that's being moved, but if one were
to be added (for example, one that counts tasks within a group) this bit
would need to be reworked a bit to tell the subsystem the right
information.

KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki 22a668d7c3 memcg: fix behavior under memory.limit equals to memsw.limit
A user can set memcg.limit_in_bytes == memcg.memsw.limit_in_bytes when the
user just want to limit the total size of applications, in other words,
not very interested in memory usage itself. In this case, swap-out will
be done only by global-LRU.

But, under current implementation, memory.limit_in_bytes is checked at
first and try_to_free_page() may do swap-out. But, that swap-out is
useless for memsw.limit_in_bytes and the thread may hit limit again.

This patch tries to fix the current behavior at memory.limit ==
memsw.limit case. And documentation is updated to explain the behavior of
this special case.

KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki 0b7f569e45 memcg: fix OOM killer under memcg
This patch tries to fix OOM Killer problems caused by hierarchy.
Now, memcg itself has OOM KILL function (in oom_kill.c) and tries to
kill a task in memcg.

But, when hierarchy is used, it's broken and correct task cannot
be killed. For example, in following cgroup

	/groupA/	hierarchy=1, limit=1G,
		01	nolimit
		02	nolimit
All tasks' memory usage under /groupA, /groupA/01, groupA/02 is limited to
groupA's 1Gbytes but OOM Killer just kills tasks in groupA.

This patch provides makes the bad process be selected from all tasks
under hierarchy. BTW, currently, oom_jiffies is updated against groupA
in above case. oom_jiffies of tree should be updated.

To see how oom_jiffies is used, please check mem_cgroup_oom_called()
callers.

Li Zefan b6719ec1ad cgroups: more documentation for remount and release_agent
This won't remove cpuacct from the mounted hierachy:
 # mount -t cgroup -o cpu,cpuacct xxx /mnt
 # mount -o remount,cpu /mnt

Because for this usage mount(8) will append the new options to the original
options.

And this will get you right:
 # mount [-t cgroup] -o remount,cpu xxx /mnt

Also document how to specify or change release_agent.

KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki ec64f51545 cgroup: fix frequent -EBUSY at rmdir
In following situation, with memory subsystem,

	/groupA use_hierarchy==1
		/01 some tasks
		/02 some tasks
		/03 some tasks
		/04 empty

When tasks under 01/02/03 hit limit on /groupA, hierarchical reclaim
is triggered and the kernel walks tree under groupA. In this case,
rmdir /groupA/04 fails with -EBUSY frequently because of temporal
refcnt from the kernel.

In general. cgroup can be rmdir'd if there are no children groups and
no tasks. Frequent fails of rmdir() is not useful to users.
(And the reason for -EBUSY is unknown to users.....in most cases)

This patch tries to modify above behavior, by
	- retries if css_refcnt is got by someone.
	- add "return value" to pre_destroy() and allows subsystem to
	  say "we're really busy!"

Bharata B Rao ef12fefabf cpuacct: add per-cgroup utime/stime statistics
Add per-cgroup cpuacct controller statistics like the system and user
time consumed by the group of tasks.

Changelog:

v7
- Changed the name of the statistic from utime to user and from stime to
  system so that in future we could easily add other statistics like irq,
  softirq, steal times etc easily.

v6
- Fixed a bug in the error path of cpuacct_create() (pointed by Li Zefan).

v5
- In cpuacct_stats_show(), use cputime64_to_clock_t() since we are
  operating on a 64bit variable here.

v4
- Remove comments in cpuacct_update_stats() which explained why rcu_read_lock()
  was needed (as per Peter Zijlstra's review comments).
- Don't say that percpu_counter_read() is broken in Documentation/cpuacct.txt
  as per KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki's review comments.

v3
- Fix a small race in the cpuacct hierarchy walk.

v2
- stime and utime now exported in clock_t units instead of msecs.
- Addressed the code review comments from Balbir and Li Zefan.
- Moved to -tip tree.

v1
- Moved the stime/utime accounting to cpuacct controller.

Paul Menage 999cd8a450 cgroups: add a per-subsystem hierarchy_mutex
These patches introduce new locking/refcount support for cgroups to
reduce the need for subsystems to call cgroup_lock(). This will
ultimately allow the atomicity of cgroup_rmdir() (which was removed
recently) to be restored.

These three patches give:

1/3 - introduce a per-subsystem hierarchy_mutex which a subsystem can
     use to prevent changes to its own cgroup tree

2/3 - use hierarchy_mutex in place of calling cgroup_lock() in the
     memory controller

3/3 - introduce a css_tryget() function similar to the one recently
      proposed by Kamezawa, but avoiding spurious refcount failures in
      the event of a race between a css_tryget() and an unsuccessful
      cgroup_rmdir()

Future patches will likely involve:

- using hierarchy mutex in place of cgroup_lock() in more subsystems
 where appropriate

- restoring the atomicity of cgroup_rmdir() with respect to cgroup_create()

This patch:

Add a hierarchy_mutex to the cgroup_subsys object that protects changes to
the hierarchy observed by that subsystem. It is taken by the cgroup
subsystem (in addition to cgroup_mutex) for the following operations:

- linking a cgroup into that subsystem's cgroup tree
- unlinking a cgroup from that subsystem's cgroup tree
- moving the subsystem to/from a hierarchy (including across the
  bind() callback)

Thus if the subsystem holds its own hierarchy_mutex, it can safely
traverse its own hierarchy.

Li Zefan 3b1b3f6e57 freezer_cg: disable writing freezer.state of root cgroup
With this change, control file 'freezer.state' doesn't exist in root

I think it's reasonable to disallow freeze tasks in the root cgroup. And
then we can avoid fork overhead when freezer subsystem is compiled but not
used.

Also make writing invalid value to freezer.state returns EINVAL rather
than EIO. This is more consistent with other cgroup subsystem.
