Jani Nikula b5273d7275 drm/i915/vbt: ignore extraneous child devices for a port
Ever since we've parsed VBT child devices, starting from 6acab15a7b
("drm/i915: use the HDMI DDI buffer translations from VBT"), we've
ignored the child device information if more than one child device
references the same port. The rationale for this seems lost in time.

Since commit 311a20949f ("drm/i915: don't init DP or HDMI when not
supported by DDI port") we started using this information more to skip
HDMI/DP init if the port wasn't there per VBT child devices. However, at
the same time it added port defaults without further explanation.

Thus, if the child device info was skipped due to multiple child devices
referencing the same port, the device info would be retrieved from the
somewhat arbitrary defaults.

Finally, when commit bb1d132935 ("drm/i915/vbt: split out defaults
that are set when there is no VBT") stopped initializing the defaults
whenever VBT is present, thus trusting the VBT more, we stopped
initializing ports which were referenced by more than one child device.

Apparently at least Asus UX305UA, UX305U, and UX306U laptops have VBT
child device blocks which cause this behaviour. Arguably they were
shipped with a broken VBT.

Relax the rules for multiple references to the same port, and use the
first child device info to reference a port. Retain the logic to debug
log about this, though.

Jani Nikula bb1d132935 drm/i915/vbt: split out defaults that are set when there is no VBT
The main thing are the DDI ports. If there's a VBT that says there are
no outputs, we should trust that, and not have semi-random
defaults. Unfortunately, the defaults have resulted in some Chromebooks
without VBT to rely on this behaviour, so we split out the defaults for
the missing VBT case.

Jani Nikula 665788572c drm/i915/vbt: don't propagate errors from intel_bios_init()
We don't use the error return for anything other than reporting and
logging that there is no VBT. We can pull the logging in the function,
and remove the error status return. Moreover, if we needed the
information for something later on, we'd probably be better off storing
the bit in dev_priv, and using it where it's needed, instead of using
the error return.

While at it, improve the comments.

Ville Syrjälä 7a17995a3d drm/i915: Assume non-DP++ port if dvo_port is HDMI and there's no AUX ch specified in the VBT
My heuristic for detecting type 1 DVI DP++ adaptors based on the VBT
port information apparently didn't survive the reality of buggy VBTs.
In this particular case we have a machine with a natice HDMI port, but
the VBT tells us it's a DP++ port based on its capabilities.

The dvo_port information in VBT does claim that we're dealing with a
HDMI port though, but we have other machines which do the same even
when they actually have DP++ ports. So that piece of information alone
isn't sufficient to tell the two apart.

After staring at a bunch of VBTs from various machines, I have to
conclude that the only other semi-reliable clue we can use is the
presence of the AUX channel in the VBT. On this particular machine
AUX channel is specified as zero, whereas on some of the other machines
which listed the DP++ port as HDMI have a non-zero AUX channel.

I've also seen VBTs which have dvo_port a DP but have a zero AUX
channel. I believe those we need to treat as DP ports, so we'll limit
the AUX channel check to just the cases where dvo_port is HDMI.

If we encounter any more serious failures with this heuristic I think
we'll have to have to throw it out entirely. But that could mean that
there is a risk of type 1 DVI dongle users getting greeted by a
black screen, so I'd rather not go there unless absolutely necessary.

Ville Syrjälä a05628195a drm/i915: Get panel_type from OpRegion panel details
We've had problems on several occasions with using the panel type
from the VBT block 40. Usually it seems to be 2, which often
doesn't give us the correct timings for the panel. After some
more digging I found a way to get a panel type via the OpRegion
SWSCI GBDA "Get Panel Details" method. Let's try to use it.

The spec has this to say about the output:
"Bits [15:8] - Panel Type
Bits contain the panel type user setting from CMOS
00h = Not Valid, use default Panel Type & Timings from VBT
 01h - 0Fh = Panel Number"

Another version of the spec lists the valid range as 1-16, which makes
more sense since VBT supports 16 panels. Based on actual results
from Rob's G45, 1-16 is what we need to accept.

The other bits in the output don't look relevant for the problem at
hand.

The input is specified as:
"Bits [31:4] - Reserved
 Reserved (must be zero)
 Bits [3:0] - Panel Number
These bits contain the sequential index of Panel, starting at 0 and
counting upwards from the first integrated Internal Flat-Panel Display
Encoder present, and then from the first external Display Encoder
 (e.g., S/DVO-B then S/DVO-C) which supports Internal Flat-Panels.
 0h - 0Fh = Panel number"

For now I've just hardcoded the input panel number as 0. That would seem
like a decent choise for LVDS. Not so sure about eDP when port != A.

v2: Accept values 1-16

My 85x has VBT version 108 which has a child dev size of 27 bytes.

We still want to reject the actual parsin since for that we need

While at it, toss in a BUILD_BUG_ON() to verify our struct

Jani Nikula 2a33d93486 drm/i915/bios: add support for MIPI sequence block v3
The changes since the sequence block v2 are:

* The whole MIPI bios data block has a separate 32-bit size field since
v3, stored after the version. This facilitates big sequences.

* The size of the panel specific sequence blocks has grown to 32
  bits. This facilitates big sequences.

* The elements within sequences now have an 8-bit size field following
the operation byte. This facilitates skipping unknown new operation
  bytes, i.e. forward compatibility.
