Linus Torvalds 46b407ca4a remoteproc/rpmsg: new subsystem
This new subsystem provides a common way to talk to secondary processors
on an SoC, e.g. a DSP, GPU or service processor, using virtio as the
transport. In the long run, it should replace a few dozen vendor
specific ways to do the same thing, which all never made it into the
upstream kernel. There is a broad agreement that rpmsg is the way to
go here and several vendors have started working on replacing their
 own subsystems.

Two branches each add one virtio protocol number. Fortunately the
numbers were agreed upon in advance, so there are only context changes.

Linus Torvalds 0b0c9d3a58 The IOMMU updates for this round are not very large patch-wise. But
they contain two new IOMMU drivers for the ARM Tegra 2 and 3 platforms.
Besides that there are also a few patches for the AMD IOMMU which
prepare the driver for adding intr-remapping support and a couple of
 fixes.

Linus Torvalds 475c77edf8 Merge branch 'linux-next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jbarnes/pci
Pull PCI changes (including maintainer change) from Jesse Barnes:
"This pull has some good cleanups from Bjorn and Yinghai, as well as
some more code from Yinghai to better handle resource re-allocation
  when enabled.

There's also a new initcall_debug feature from Arjan which will print
out quirk timing information to help identify slow quirks for fixing
or refinement (Yinghai sent in a few patches to do just that once the
  new debug code landed).

Beyond that, I'm handing off PCI maintainership to Bjorn Helgaas.
He's been a core PCI and Linux contributor for some time now, and has
kindly volunteered to take over. I just don't feel I have the time
for PCI review and work that it deserves lately (I've taken on some
other projects), and haven't been as responsive lately as I'd like, so
I approached Bjorn asking if he'd like to manage things. He's going
to give it a try, and I'm confident he'll do at least as well as I
have in keeping the tree managed, patches flowing, and keeping things
  stable."

Fix up some fairly trivial conflicts due to other cleanups (mips device
resource fixup cleanups clashing with list handling cleanup, ppc iseries
removal clashing with pci_probe_only cleanup etc)

Pull cleancache changes from Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk:
"This has some patches for the cleancache API that should have been
submitted a _long_ time ago. They are basically cleanups:

   - rename of flush to invalidate

   - moving reporting of statistics into debugfs

   - use __read_mostly as necessary.

Oh, and also the MAINTAINERS file change. The files (except the
MAINTAINERS file) have been in #linux-next for months now. The late
addition of MAINTAINERS file is a brain-fart on my side - didn't
realize I needed that just until I was typing this up - and I based
that patch on v3.3 - so the tree is on top of v3.3."

Linus Torvalds 5375871d43 Merge branch 'next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/benh/powerpc
Pull powerpc merge from Benjamin Herrenschmidt:
"Here's the powerpc batch for this merge window. It is going to be a
bit more nasty than usual as in touching things outside of
arch/powerpc mostly due to the big iSeriesectomy :-) We finally got
rid of the bugger (legacy iSeries support) which was a PITA to
maintain and that nobody really used anymore.

Here are some of the highlights:

   - Legacy iSeries is gone. Thanks Stephen ! There's still some bits
and pieces remaining if you do a grep -ir series arch/powerpc but
they are harmless and will be removed in the next few weeks
     hopefully.

   - The 'fadump' functionality (Firmware Assisted Dump) replaces the
previous (equivalent) "pHyp assisted dump"... it's a rewrite of a
mechanism to get the hypervisor to do crash dumps on pSeries, the
new implementation hopefully being much more reliable. Thanks
     Mahesh Salgaonkar.

   - The "EEH" code (pSeries PCI error handling & recovery) got a big
spring cleaning, motivated by the need to be able to implement a
new backend for it on top of some new different type of firwmare.

The work isn't complete yet, but a good chunk of the cleanups is
there. Note that this adds a field to struct device_node which is
not very nice and which Grant objects to. I will have a patch soon
that moves that to a powerpc private data structure (hopefully
before rc1) and we'll improve things further later on (hopefully
getting rid of the need for that pointer completely). Thanks Gavin
     Shan.

   - I dug into our exception & interrupt handling code to improve the
way we do lazy interrupt handling (and make it work properly with
"edge" triggered interrupt sources), and while at it found & fixed
a wagon of issues in those areas, including adding support for page
fault retry & fatal signals on page faults.

   - Your usual random batch of small fixes & updates, including a bunch
of new embedded boards, both Freescale and APM based ones, etc..."

I fixed up some conflicts with the generalized irq-domain changes from
Grant Likely, hopefully correctly.

Linus Torvalds c207f3a431 Generialize powerpc's irq_host as irq_domain
This branch takes the PowerPC irq_host infrastructure (reverse mapping
from Linux IRQ numbers to hardware irq numbering), generalizes it,
renames it to irq_domain, and makes it available to all architectures.

Originally the plan has been to create an all-new irq_domain
implementation which addresses some of the powerpc shortcomings such
as not handling 1:1 mappings well, but doing that proved to be far
more difficult and invasive than generalizing the working code and
refactoring it in-place. So, this branch rips out the 'new'
irq_domain and replaces it with the modified powerpc version (in a
fully bisectable way of course). It converts all users over to the
new API and makes irq_domain selectable on any architecture.

No architecture is forced to enable irq_domain, but the infrastructure
is required for doing OpenFirmware style irq translations. It will
even work on SPARC even though SPARC has it's own mechanism for
translating irqs at boot time. MIPS, microblaze, embedded x86 and c6x
 are converted too.

The resulting irq_domain code is probably still too verbose and can be
optimized more, but that can be done incrementally and is a task for
 follow-on patches.

Ohad Ben-Cohen 400e64df6b remoteproc: add framework for controlling remote processors
Modern SoCs typically employ a central symmetric multiprocessing (SMP)
application processor running Linux, with several other asymmetric
multiprocessing (AMP) heterogeneous processors running different instances
of operating system, whether Linux or any other flavor of real-time OS.

Booting a remote processor in an AMP configuration typically involves:
- Loading a firmware which contains the OS image
- Allocating and providing it required system resources (e.g. memory)
- Programming an IOMMU (when relevant)
- Powering on the device

This patch introduces a generic framework that allows drivers to do
that. In the future, this framework will also include runtime power
management and error recovery.

Based on (but now quite far from) work done by Fernando Guzman Lugo
<fernando.lugo@ti.com>.

ELF loader was written by Mark Grosen <mgrosen@ti.com>, based on
msm's Peripheral Image Loader (PIL) by Stephen Boyd <sboyd@codeaurora.org>.

Greg KH 879a5a001b MAINTAINERS: Greg's suse email address is dead
My email address has changed, the suse.de one is now dead, so update all
of my MAINTAINER entries with the correct one so that patches don't get
lost.

Also change the status of some of my entries as I'm supposed to be doing
this stuff now for real.

Fix up conflict in fs/logfs/dev_mtd.c due to semantic change in what
"mtd->block_isbad" means in commit f2933e86ad93: "Logfs: Allow NULL
block_isbad() methods" clashing with the abstraction changes in the
commits 7086c19d0742: "mtd: introduce mtd_block_isbad interface" and
d58b27ed58a3: "logfs: do not use 'mtd->block_isbad' directly".

This resolution takes the semantics from commit f2933e86ad, and just
makes mtd_block_isbad() return zero (false) if the 'block_isbad'
function is NULL. But that also means that now "mtd_can_have_bb()"
always returns 0.

Now, "mtd_block_markbad()" will obviously return an error if the
low-level driver doesn't support bad blocks, so this is somewhat
non-symmetric, but it actually makes sense if a NULL "block_isbad"
function is considered to mean "I assume that all my blocks are always
good".

Linus Torvalds 27ba234c8d Here are some tty/serial patches for 3.3-rc1
Big thing here is the movement of the 8250 serial drivers to their own
directory, now that the patch churn has calmed down.

Other than that, only minor stuff (omap patches were reverted as they
were found to be wrong), and another broken driver removed from the
 system.

Linus Torvalds 3074c0350b Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tyhicks/ecryptfs
Says Tyler:
"Tim's logging message update will be really helpful to users when
they're trying to locate a problematic file in the lower filesystem
  with filename encryption enabled.

You'll recognize the fix from Li, as you commented on that.

You should also be familiar with my setattr/truncate improvements,
since you were the one that pointed them out to us (thanks again!).
Andrew noted the /dev/ecryptfs write count sanitization needed to be
improved, so I've got a fix in there for that along with some other
less important cleanups of the /dev/ecryptfs read/write code."

* 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tyhicks/ecryptfs:
eCryptfs: Fix oops when printing debug info in extent crypto functions
  eCryptfs: Remove unused ecryptfs_read()
eCryptfs: Check inode changes in setattr
  eCryptfs: Make truncate path killable
eCryptfs: Infinite loop due to overflow in ecryptfs_write()
eCryptfs: Replace miscdev read/write magic numbers
eCryptfs: Report errors in writes to /dev/ecryptfs
eCryptfs: Sanitize write counts of /dev/ecryptfs
  ecryptfs: Remove unnecessary variable initialization
ecryptfs: Improve metadata read failure logging
