Ben Skeggs 648d4dfde7 drm/nouveau/disp: audit and version display classes
The full object interfaces are about to be exposed to userspace, so we
need to check for any security-related issues and version the structs
to make it easier to handle any changes we may need in the future.

Ben Skeggs 79ca27706a drm/nouveau/core: rework event interface
This is a lot of prep-work for being able to send event notifications
back to userspace.  Events now contain data, rather than a "something
just happened" signal.

Handler data is now embedded into a containing structure, rather than
being kmalloc()'d, and can optionally have the notify routine handled
in a workqueue.

Various races between suspend/unload with display HPD/DP IRQ handlers
automagically solved as a result.

Mario Kleiner 9cba5efab5 drm/nouveau: Dis/Enable vblank irqs during suspend/resume.
Vblank irqs don't get disabled during suspend or driver
unload, which causes irq delivery after "suspend" or
driver unload, at least until the gpu is powered off.
This could race with drm_vblank_cleanup() in the case
of nouveau and cause a use-after-free bug if the driver
is unloaded.

More annoyingly during everyday use, at least on nv50
display engine (likely also others), vblank irqs are
off after a resume from suspend, but the drm doesn't
know this, so all vblank related functionality is dead
after a resume. E.g., all windowed OpenGL clients will
hang at swapbuffers time, as well as many fullscreen
clients in many cases. This makes suspend/resume useless
if one wants to use any OpenGL apps after the resume.

In Linux 3.16, drm_vblank_on() was added, complementing
the older drm_vblank_off()  to solve these problems
elegantly, so use those calls in nouveaus suspend/resume
code.

For kernels 3.8 - 3.15, we need to cherry-pick the
drm_vblank_on() patch to support this patch.

Mario Kleiner af4870e406 drm/nouveau/kms/nv04-nv40: fix pageflip events via special case.
Cards with nv04 display engine can't reliably use vblank
counts and timestamps computed via drm_handle_vblank(), as
the function gets invoked after sending the pageflip events.

Fix this by defaulting to the old crtcid = -1 fallback path
on <= NV-50 cards, and only using the precise path on NV-50
and later.

Matt Roper f4510a2752 drm: Replace crtc fb with primary plane fb (v3)
Now that CRTC's have a primary plane, there's no need to track the
framebuffer in the CRTC.  Replace all references to the CRTC fb with the
primary plane's fb.

This patch was generated by the Coccinelle semantic patching tool using
the following rules:

Mario Kleiner 6c3252bc83 drm/nouveau: fix small thinko in vblank timestamping.
*hpos horizontal scanout position doesn't need to be corrected
to count the pixels between hactive end and htotal negative.
That is only needed for *vpos to count lines until end of
vblank for the vblank timestamping.

Use hpos as is without correction.

Removes occassional spikes in timestamps of up to 1 scanline
duration, thereby improves accuracy to about +/- 2 usecs instead
of +/- 12 usecs, wrt. true onset time as measured with high
precision equipment on NV-A5.

Alexandre Courbot 420b946977 support for platform devices
Upcoming mobile Kepler GPUs (such as GK20A) use the platform bus instead
of PCI to which Nouveau is tightly dependent. This patch allows Nouveau
to handle platform devices by:

- abstracting PCI-dependent functions that were typically used for
  resource querying and page mapping,
- introducing a nv_device_is_pci() function that allows to make
  PCI-dependent code conditional,
- providing a nouveau_drm_platform_probe() function that takes a GPU
  platform device to be probed.

Core code as well as engine/subdev drivers are updated wherever possible
to make use of these functions. Some older drivers are too dependent on
PCI to be properly updated, but all newer code on which future chips may
depend should at least be runnable with platform devices.

David Herrmann 55fb74adc6 drm/nouveau: embed gem object in nouveau_bo
There is no reason to keep the gem object separately allocated. nouveau is
the last user of gem_obj->driver_private, so if we embed it, we can get
rid of 8bytes per gem-object.

The implementation follows the radeon driver. bo->gem is only valid, iff
the bo was created via the gem helpers _and_ iff the user holds a valid
gem reference. That is, as the gem object holds a reference to the
nouveau_bo. If you use nouveau_ref() to gain a bo reference, you are not
guaranteed to also hold a gem reference. The gem object might get
destroyed after the last user drops the gem-ref via
drm_gem_object_unreference(). Use drm_gem_object_reference() to gain a
gem-reference.

For debugging, we can use bo->gem.filp != NULL to test whether a gem-bo is
valid. However, this shouldn't be used for real functionality to avoid
gem-internal dependencies.

Note that the implementation follows the previous style. However, we no
longer can check for bo->gem != NULL to test for a valid gem object. This
wasn't done before, so we should be safe now.

This hooks nouveau up to the runtime PM system to enable
dynamic power management for secondary GPUs in switchable
and optimus laptops.

a) rewrite suspend/resume printks to hide them during dynamic s/r
to avoid cluttering logs
b) add runtime pm suspend to irq handler, crtc display, ioctl handler,
connector status,
c) handle hdmi audio dynamic power on/off using magic register.

make sure we hit D3 properly
fix fbdev_set_suspend locking interaction, we only will poweroff if we have no

Daniel Vetter 43387b37fa drm/gem: create drm_gem_dumb_destroy
All the gem based kms drivers really want the same function to
destroy a dumb framebuffer backing storage object.

So give it to them and roll it out in all drivers.

This still leaves the option open for kms drivers which don't use GEM
for backing storage, but it does decently simplify matters for gem
drivers.

David Herrmann 72525b3f33 drm/ttm: convert to unified vma offset manager
Use the new vma-manager infrastructure. This doesn't change any
implementation details as the vma-offset-manager is nearly copied 1-to-1
from TTM.

The vm_lock is moved into the offset manager so we can drop it from TTM.
During lookup, we use the vma locking helpers to take a reference to the
found object.
In all other scenarios, locking stays the same as before. We always
guarantee that drm_vma_offset_remove() is called only during destruction.
Hence, helpers like drm_vma_node_offset_addr() are always safe as long as
the node has a valid offset.

This also drops the addr_space_offset member as it is a copy of vm_start
in vma_node objects. Use the accessor functions instead.

Ben Skeggs 060810d7ab drm/nouveau: fix locking issues in page flipping paths
b580c9e2b7 introduced additional problems
while trying to solve issues that became apparent while porting to the
new reservation stuff.

The major problem was that the the previously mentioned patch took the
client mutex earlier than previously, but the pinning of new_bo can
can potentially cause a buffer move, which would result in attempting to
acquire the same mutex again.

This commit attempts to fix that "fix".

Thanks to Maarten for the tips on keeping lockdep happy and cooking :)

Maarten Lankhorst b580c9e2b7 drm/nouveau: make flipping lockdep safe
cli->mutex was inverted with reservations, and multiple reservations were
used without a ticket, fix both. This commit had to be done after the previous
commit, because otherwise ttm_eu_* calls would use a different seqno counter..

Ben Skeggs 1a64634255 drm/nv04/disp: hide all the cruft away in its own little hole
It'd be pretty awesome if someone would care enough to port this all
properly to a class interface, perhaps submitting a command stream to
the core via a sw object on PFIFO (emulating how EVO works basically,
and also what nvidia have done forever..)..

But, this seems unlikely given how old this hardware is now, so, lets
just hide it away.

There's a heap of other bits and pieces laying around that are still
tangled.  I'll (re)move them in pieces.

Daniel Vetter c7d73f6a8a drm/<drivers>: reorder framebuffer init sequence
With more fine-grained locking we can no longer rely on the big
mode_config lock to prevent concurrent access to mode resources
like framebuffers. Instead a framebuffer becomes accessible to
other threads as soon as it is added to the relevant lookup
structures. Hence it needs to be fully set up by the time drivers
call drm_framebuffer_init.

This patch here is the drivers part of that reorg. Nothing really fancy
going on safe for three special cases.

- exynos needs to be careful to properly unref all handles.
- nouveau gets a resource leak fixed for free: one of the error
  cases didn't cleanup the framebuffer, which is now moot since
  the framebuffer is only registered once it is fully set up.
- vmwgfx requires a slight reordering of operations, I'm hoping I didn't
  break anything (but it's refcount management only, so should be safe).

v2: Split out exynos, since it's a bit more hairy than expected.

v3: Drop bogus cirrus hunk noticed by Richard Wilbur.

v4: Split out vmwgfx since there's a small change in return values.

Ben Skeggs 1a1841d300 drm/nouveau: do not forcibly power on lvds panels
This fix was put in place to fix a bug where the eDP panel on certain
laptops fails to respond over the aux channel after suspend.

It appears that on some systems (Dell M6600, with LVDS panel) there's a
very bad interaction with the eDP init table that causes the SOR to get
very confused and not drive the panel correctly, leading to bleed.

A DPMS off/on cycle is enough to bring it back, but, this will avoid the
problem by not touching the panel GPIOs at times we're not meant to.

It's questionable use case, but weston/wayland already relies on this
behaviour, and other drivers don't care about it, so it's a matter of
compatibility.  Without it, process invoking such page flip hangs in
unkillable state, trying to reserve the same buffer twice.

This is a HUGE commit, but it's not nearly as bad as it looks - any problems
can be isolated to a particular chipset and engine combination.  It was
simply too difficult to port each one at a time, the compat layers are
*already* ridiculous.

Most of the changes here are simply to the glue, the process for each of the
engine modules was to start with a standard skeleton and copy+paste the old
code into the appropriate places, fixing up variable names etc as needed.

Future work will be headed in the way of separating the policy supplied by
the nouveau drm module from the mechanisms provided by the driver core.

There will be a couple of major classes (subdev, engine) of driver modules
that have clearly defined tasks, and the further directory structure change
is to reflect this.

No code changes here whatsoever, aside from fixing up a couple of include
file pathnames.

Ben Skeggs b29caa5885 drm/nouveau: add overscan compensation connector properties
Exposes the same connector properties as the Radeon implementation, however
their behaviour isn't exactly the same.  The primary difference being that
unless both hborder/vborder have been defined by the user, the driver will
keep the aspect ratio of the overscanned area the same as the mode the
display is programmed for.

Enabled for digital outputs on GeForce 8 and up, excluding GF119.

Ville Syrjälä 01f2c7730e drm: Replace pitch with pitches[] in drm_framebuffer
Otherwise each driver would need to keep the information inside
their own framebuffer object structure. Also add offsets[]. BOs
on the other hand are driver specific, so those can be kept in
driver specific structures.

Jesse Barnes 308e5bcbdb drm: add an fb creation ioctl that takes a pixel format v5
To properly support the various plane formats supported by different
hardware, the kernel must know the pixel format of a framebuffer object.
So add a new ioctl taking a format argument corresponding to a fourcc
name from the new drm_fourcc.h header file.  Implement the fb creation
hooks in terms of the new mode_fb_cmd2 using helpers where the old
bpp/depth values are needed.

v2: create DRM specific fourcc header file for sharing with libdrm etc
v3: fix rebase failure and use DRM fourcc codes in intel_display.c and
    update commit message
v4: make fb_cmd2 handle field into an array for multi-object formats
    pull in Ville's fix for the memcpy in drm_plane_init

Dave Airlie 386516744b drm/fb: fix fbdev object model + cleanup properly.
The fbdev layer in the kms code should act like a consumer of the kms services and avoid having relying on information being store in the kms core structures in order for it to work.

This patch

a) removes the info pointer/psuedo palette from the core drm_framebuffer structure and moves it to the fbdev helper layer, it also removes the core drm keeping a list of kernel kms fbdevs.
b) migrated all the fb helper functions out of the crtc helper file into the fb helper file.
c) pushed the fb probing/hotplug control into the driver
d) makes the surface sizes into a structure for ease of passing
This changes the intel/radeon/nouveau drivers to use the new helper.

Ben Skeggs 6ee738610f drm/nouveau: Add DRM driver for NVIDIA GPUs
This adds a drm/kms staging non-API stable driver for GPUs from NVIDIA.

This driver is a KMS-based driver and requires a compatible nouveau
userspace libdrm and nouveau X.org driver.

This driver requires firmware files not available in this kernel tree,
interested parties can find them via the nouveau project git archive.

This driver is reverse engineered, and is in no way supported by nVidia.

Support for nearly the complete range of nvidia hw from nv04->g80 (nv50)
is available, and the kms driver should support driving nearly all
output types (displayport is under development still) along with supporting
suspend/resume.

This work is all from the upstream nouveau project found at
nouveau.freedesktop.org.
