Rafael J. Wysocki 5415277283 PM: i2c-designware-platdrv: Suspend/resume at the late/early stages
As reported by Rajat Jain, there are problems when ACPI operation
region handlers or similar, called at the ->resume_early() time, for
I2C client devices try to access an I2C controller that has already
been suspended at that point.  To avoid that, move the suspend/resume
of i2c-designware-platdrv to the late/early stages, respectively.

While at it, avoid resuming the device from runtime suspend in the
driver's ->suspend callback which isn't particularly nice.  [A better
approach would be to make the driver track the PM state of the device
so that it doesn't need to resume it in ->suspend, so implement it.]

First, drop dw_i2c_plat_suspend() added by commit a23318feef (i2c:
designware: Fix system suspend) and rename dw_i2c_plat_runtime_suspend()
back to dw_i2c_plat_suspend().

Second, point the driver's ->late_suspend and ->early_resume
callbacks, rather than its ->suspend and ->resume callbacks,
to dw_i2c_plat_suspend() and dw_i2c_plat_resume(), respectively,
so that they are not executed in parallel with each other, for
example if runtime resume of the device takes place during system
suspend.

Finally, add "suspended" and "skip_resume" flags to struct dw_i2c_dev
and make dw_i2c_plat_suspend() and dw_i2c_plat_resume() use them to
avoid suspending or resuming the device twice in a row and to avoid
resuming a previously runtime-suspended device during system resume.

Rafael J. Wysocki 126dbc6b49 PM: i2c-designware-platdrv: Clean up PM handling in probe
The power management handling in dw_i2c_plat_probe() is somewhat
messy and it is rather hard to figure out the code intention for
the case when pm_disabled is set.  In that case, the driver doesn't
enable runtime PM at all, but in addition to that it calls
pm_runtime_forbid() as though it wasn't sure if runtime PM might
be enabled for the device later by someone else.

Although that concern doesn't seem to be actually valid, the
device is clearly still expected to be PM-capable even in the
pm_disabled set case, so a better approach would be to enable
runtime PM for it unconditionally and prevent it from being
runtime-suspended by using pm_runtime_get_noresume().

Make the driver do that.

Hans de Goede 231d069fcd i2c: designware: Round down ACPI provided clk to nearest supported clk
The Lenovo Miix2 8 DSDT contains an i2c clk / bus speed of 1700000 Hz
for one if its devices, which is not supported.

This is the second DSDT to show up with an unsupported clk in a short
time, remove the hardcoded fix for DSDTs with a 1 MiHz clock and simply
always round down the clk to the nearest supported value.

Stephen Douthit ba201c4f5e i2c: ismt: Return EMSGSIZE for block reads with bogus length
Compare the number of bytes actually seen on the wire to the byte
count field returned by the slave device.

Previously we just overwrote the byte count returned by the slave
with the real byte count and let the caller figure out if the
message was sane.

Stephen Douthit b6c159a9cb i2c: ismt: Don't duplicate the receive length for block reads
According to Table 15-14 of the C2000 EDS (Intel doc #510524) the
rx data pointed to by the descriptor dptr contains the byte count.

desc->rxbytes reports all bytes read on the wire, including the
"byte count" byte.  So if a device sends 4 bytes in response to a
block read, on the wire and in the DMA buffer we see:

count data1 data2 data3 data4
 0x04  0xde  0xad  0xbe  0xef

That's what we want to return in data->block to the next level.

Instead we were actually prefixing that with desc->rxbytes:

This was discovered while developing a BMC solution relying on the
ipmi_ssif.c driver which was trying to interpret the bogus length
field as part of the IPMI response.

Andrew Jeffery 95fd3ad9cd i2c: aspeed: Retain delay/setup/hold values when configuring bus frequency
In addition to the base, low and high clock configuration, the AC timing
register #1 on the AST2400 houses fields controlling:

1. tBUF: Minimum delay between Stop and Start conditions
2. tHDSTA: Hold time for the Start condition
3. tACST: Setup time for Start and Stop conditions, and hold time for the
   Repeated Start condition

These values are defined in hardware on the AST2500 and therefore don't
need to be set.

aspeed_i2c_init_clk() was performing a direct write of the generated
clock values rather than a read/mask/modify/update sequence to retain
tBUF, tHDSTA and tACST, and therefore cleared the tBUF, tHDSTA and tACST
fields on the AST2400. This resulted in a delay/setup/hold time of 1
base clock, which in some configurations is not enough for some devices
(e.g. the MAX31785 fan controller, with an APB of 48MHz and a desired
bus speed of 100kHz).

On Denverton micro-server, the presence of the P2SB bridge PCI device is
enabled or disabled by the item 'RelaxSecConf' in BIOS setup menu. When
'RelaxSecConf' is enabled, the P2SB PCI device is present and the pnd2_edac
EDAC driver also uses it to get BAR. Hiding the P2SB PCI device caused the
pnd2_edac EDAC driver failed to get BAR then reported the above failure.

Therefor, store the presence state of P2SB PCI device before unhiding it
for reading BAR and restore the presence state after reading BAR.

Franklin S Cooper Jr cc209ac81c i2c: davinci: Preserve return value of devm_clk_get
The i2c driver can run into driver dependency issues if its loaded
before a clock driver it depends on. Therefore, EPROBE_DEFER may be
returned by devm_clk_get and should be returned in probe to allow the
kernel to reprobe the driver at a later time. This patch allows the error
value returned by devm_clk_get to be passed through and not overwritten.

Hans de Goede ed1094012a i2c-cht-wc: Workaround CHT GPIO controller IRQ issues
The Cherry Trail Whiskey Cove PMIC's IRQ line is attached to one of
the GPIOs of the Cherry Trail SoC. The CHT GPIO controller sometimes
fails to deliver IRQs (seen when there is an IRQ storm on another pin).

This commit works around this by reducing the long timeout which was
a poor attempt to workaround this from 3s to 30ms and after that
manually checking the status register for transfer completion by
calling the threaded IRQ handler directly.

This is safe todo as the entire threaded IRQ handler is protected
by a mutex.

Note 30ms should be more then long enough, at 100KHz any smbus single
byte transaction should be finished in 4ms.

Hans de Goede 8de60c636e i2c-cht-wc: Ack read irqs after reading the data register
Testing has shown that writing 1 to clear the read-complete irq does
not work until the data register has been read first.

This commit fixes the driver to read the data register first, halving the
amount of interrupts in most cases since we mostly read on this i2c bus.

Jarkko Nikula 2a86cdd2e7 i2c: designware: Fix runtime PM for I2C slave mode
I2C slave controller must be powered and active all the time when I2C
slave backend is registered in order to let master address and
communicate with us.

Now if the controller is runtime PM capable it will be suspended after
probe and cannot ever respond to the master or generate interrupts.

Fix this by resuming the controller when I2C slave backend is registered
and let it suspend after unregistering.

Jarkko Nikula 733f656397 i2c: designware: Remove needless pm_runtime_put_noidle() call
I guess pm_runtime_put_noidle() call in i2c_dw_probe_slave() was copied
by accident from similar master mode adapter registration code. It is
unbalanced due missing pm_runtime_get_noresume() but harmless since it
doesn't decrease dev->power.usage_count below zero.

In theory we can hit similar needless runtime suspend/resume cycle
during slave mode adapter registration that was happening when
registering the master mode adapter. See commit cd998ded5c ("i2c:
designware: Prevent runtime suspend during adapter registration").

However, since we are slave, we can consider it as a wrong configuration
if we have other slaves attached under this adapter and can omit the
pm_runtime_get_noresume()/pm_runtime_put_noidle() calls for simplicity.

Brendan Higgins 87b59ff8d1 i2c: aspeed: add proper support fo 24xx clock params
24xx BMCs have larger clock divider granularity which can cause problems
when trying to set them as 25xx clock dividers; this adds clock setting
code specific to 24xx.

This also fixes a potential issue where clock dividers were rounded down
instead of up.

Philipp Zabel 94d3b651c0 i2c: tegra: explicitly request exclusive reset control
Commit a53e35db70 ("reset: Ensure drivers are explicit when requesting
reset lines") started to transition the reset control request API calls
to explicitly state whether the driver needs exclusive or shared reset
control behavior. Convert all drivers requesting exclusive resets to the
explicit API call so the temporary transition helpers can be removed.

No functional changes.

Jarkko Nikula 4e2d93de07 i2c: designware: Fix standard mode speed when configuring the slave mode
Code sets bit DW_IC_CON_SPEED_FAST (0x4) always when configuring the slave
mode. This results incorrect register value DW_IC_CON_SPEED_HIGH (0x6)
when OR'ed together with DW_IC_CON_SPEED_STD (0x2).

Remove this and let the code set the speed mode bits according to clock
frequency or default to fast mode.

Jarkko Nikula 984277a041 i2c: designware: Fix oops from i2c_dw_irq_handler_slave
When i2c-designware is initialized in slave mode the
i2c-designware-slave.c: i2c_dw_irq_handler_slave() can hit a NULL
pointer dereference when I2C slave backend is not registered but code is
accessing the struct dw_i2c_dev.slave without testing is it NULL.

We might get spurious interrupts from other devices or from IRQ core
during unloading the driver when CONFIG_DEBUG_SHIRQ is set. Existing
check for enable and IRQ status is not enough since device can be power
gated and those bits may read 1.

Fix this by handling the interrupt only when also struct dw_i2c_dev.slave
is set.

Ulf Hansson a23318feef i2c: designware: Fix system suspend
The commit 8503ff1665 ("i2c: designware: Avoid unnecessary resuming
during system suspend"), may suggest to the PM core to try out the so
called direct_complete path for system sleep. In this path, the PM core
treats a runtime suspended device as it's already in a proper low power
state for system sleep, which makes it skip calling the system sleep
callbacks for the device, except for the ->prepare() and the ->complete()
callbacks.

However, the PM core may unset the direct_complete flag for a parent
device, in case its child device are being system suspended before. In this
scenario, the PM core invokes the system sleep callbacks, no matter if the
device is runtime suspended or not.

Particularly in cases of an existing i2c slave device, the above path is
triggered, which breaks the assumption that the i2c device is always
runtime resumed whenever the dw_i2c_plat_suspend() is being called.

More precisely, dw_i2c_plat_suspend() calls clk_core_disable() and
clk_core_unprepare(), for an already disabled/unprepared clock, leading to
a splat in the log about clocks calls being wrongly balanced and breaking
system sleep.

To still allow the direct_complete path in cases when it's possible, but
also to keep the fix simple, let's runtime resume the i2c device in the
->suspend() callback, before continuing to put the device into low power
state.

Note, in cases when the i2c device is attached to the ACPI PM domain, this
problem doesn't occur, because ACPI's ->suspend() callback, assigned to
acpi_subsys_suspend(), already calls pm_runtime_resume() for the device.

It should also be noted that this change does not fix commit 8503ff1665
("i2c: designware: Avoid unnecessary resuming during system suspend").
Because for the non-ACPI case, the system sleep support was already broken
prior that point.

Hans de Goede 17a924bfe0 i2c-cht-wc: Add Intel Cherry Trail Whiskey Cove SMBUS controller driver
The Intel Cherry Trail Whiskey Cove PMIC does not contain a builtin
battery charger, instead boards with this PMIC use an external TI
bq24292i charger IC, which is connected to a SMBUS controller built into
the PMIC.

This commit adds an i2c-bus driver for the PMIC's builtin SMBUS
controller. The probe function for this i2c-bus will also register an
i2c-client for the TI bq24292i charger after the i2c-bus has been
registered.

Note that several device-properties are set on the client-device to
tell the bq24190 power-supply driver to integrate the Whiskey Cove PMIC
and e.g. use the PMIC's BC1.2 detection (through extcon) to determine
the maximum input current.

Chris Packham 2ec4d8831b i2c: pca-platform: correctly set algo_data.reset_chip
When device tree support was added the setting of algo_data.reset_chip
was moved. There were two problems with this. The first being that
i2c_pca_pf_resetchip was only used if platform data was provided. The
second that it was unconditionally overridden with
i2c_pca_pf_dummyreset. Ensure that however the reset gpio is defined the
correct reset_chip function is used.

Matt Weber 8064c61698 i2c: cadance: fix ctrl/addr reg write order
The driver was clearing the hold bit in the control register before
writing to the address register which resulted in a stop condition
being generated rather than a repeated start.

This issue was only observed when a system was running much
slower than a normal processor would execute.  The IP data sheet
mentions a ordering of writing to the address register before
clearing the hold.

The i2c-imx driver incorrectly uses readb()/writeb() to read and
write to the appropriate registers when performing a repeated start.
The appropriate imx_i2c_read_reg()/imx_i2c_write_reg() functions
should be used instead. Performing a repeated start results in
a kernel panic. The platform is imx.

Luis Oliveira 90312351fd i2c: designware: MASTER mode as separated driver
- The functions related to I2C master mode of operation were transformed
  in a single driver.
- Common definitions were moved to i2c-designware-core.h
- The i2c-designware-core is now only a library file, the functions
  associated are in a source file called i2c-designware-common and
  are used by both i2c-designware-master and i2c-designware-slave.
- To decrease noise in namespace common i2c_dw_*() functions are
  now using ops to keep them private.
- Designware PCI driver had to be changed to match the previous ops
  functions implementation.

Almost all of the "core" source is now part of the "master" source. The
difference is the functions used by both modes and they are in the
"common" source file.

- Factor out all _master() part of code from i2c-designware-core
  and i2c-designware-platdrv to separate functions.
- Standardize all code related with MASTER mode.

  because it is master specific.

The purpose of this is to prepare the controller to have is I2C MASTER
flow in a separate driver. To do this first all the
functions/definitions related to the MASTER flow were identified.

Luis Oliveira e393f674c5 i2c: designware: Cleaning and comment style fixes.
The purpose of this commit is to fix some comments and styling in the
existing code due to the need of reuse this code. What is being made
here is:

- Sorted the headers files
- Corrected some comments style (capital letters, lowcase i2c)
- Reverse tree in the variables declaration
- Add/remove empty lines and tabs where needed
- Fix of misspelled word "endianness" and "transferred"
- Replaced the return variable "r" with the more standard "ret"

The value of this, besides the rules of coding style, is because I
will use this code after and it will make my future patch a lot bigger and
complicated to review. The work here won't bring any additional work to
backported fixes because is just style and reordering.

This happen When run "i2cdetect -y 0" detect SMBus iSMT adapter.

After finished I2C block read/write, when unmap the data buffer,
a wrong device address was pass to dma_unmap_single().

To fix this, give dma_unmap_single() the "dev" parameter, just like
what dma_map_single() does, then unmap can find the right devices.

Wolfram Sang d2f31c49cf i2c: sh_mobile: remove platform_data
No platform currently upstream makes use of this platform_data anymore.
The ones that did are converted to DT meanwhile. So, remove it. The old
platforms likely don't have the 'clks_per_cnt' feature, otherwise it
would have been implemented by now. And in the unlikely case they need
to setup a different bus speed, we should rather go for a generic i2c
platform data just for that.

Ard Biesheuvel 9d64084330 i2c: designware: don't infer timings described by ACPI from clock rate
Commit bd698d24b1 ("i2c: designware: Get selected speed mode
sda-hold-time via ACPI") updated the logic that reads the timing
parameters for various I2C bus rates from the DSDT, to only read
the timing parameters for the currently selected mode.

This causes a WARN_ON() splat on platforms that legally omit the clock
frequency from the ACPI description, because in the new situation, the
core I2C designware driver still accesses the fields in the driver
struct that we no longer populate, and proceeds to calculate them from
the clock frequency. Since the clock frequency is unspecified, the
driver complains loudly using a WARN_ON().

So revert back to the old situation, where the struct fields for all
timings are populated, but retain the new logic which chooses the SDA
hold time from the timing mode that is currently in use.

Thomas Petazzoni 88ad60c23a i2c: mv64xxx: don't override deferred probing when getting irq
There is no reason to use platform_get_irq() for non-DT probing and
irq_of_parse_and_map() for DT probing. Indeed, platform_get_irq()
works fine for both.

In addition, using platform_get_irq() properly returns -EPROBE_DEFER
when the interrupt controller is not yet available, so instead of
inventing our own error code (-ENXIO), return the one provided by
platform_get_irq().

  where the module parameter refers to a hardware setting

  hwtype specifies the type of the resource being configured. This can
  be one of:

        ioport          Module parameter configures an I/O port
        iomem           Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
        ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)
        irq             Module parameter configures an I/O port
        dma             Module parameter configures a DMA channel
        dma_addr        Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
        other           Module parameter configures some other value

  Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
  lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
  future use.

  A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.

  The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
  annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
  options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
  direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.

  The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
  set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
  reasonable default.

  What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
  take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
  modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
  allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
  any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.

  Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
  doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.

Wolfram Sang ae481cc139 i2c: rcar: fix resume by always initializing registers before transfer
Resume failed because of uninitialized registers. Instead of adding a
resume callback, we simply initialize registers before every transfer.
This lightweight change is more robust and will keep us safe if we ever

David Howells c78babcc7d Annotate hardware config module parameters in drivers/i2c/
When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to
prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image.  Whilst this
includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent
access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a
device to access or modify the kernel image.

To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware
configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they
specify.  The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can
skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down.
The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the
default values for those parameters is.

Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some
drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and
some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition
to manually coded parameters.

This patch annotates drivers in drivers/i2c/.

Edgar Cherkasov e058e7a4bc i2c: i2c-scmi: add a MS HID
Description of the problem:
 - i2c-scmi driver contains only two identifiers "SMBUS01" and "SMBUSIBM";
 - the fist HID (SMBUS01) is clearly defined in "SMBus Control Method
   Interface Specification, version 1.0": "Each device must specify
   'SMBUS01' as its _HID and use a unique _UID value";
 - unfortunately, BIOS vendors (like AMI) seem to ignore this requirement
   and implement "SMB0001" HID instead of "SMBUS01";
 - I speculate that they do this because only "SMB0001" is hard coded in
   Windows SMBus driver produced by Microsoft.

This leads to following situation:
 - SMBus works out of box in Windows but not in Linux;
 - board vendors are forced to add correct "SMBUS01" HID to BIOS to make
   SMBus work in Linux. Moreover the same board vendors complain that
   tools (3-rd party ASL compiler) do not like the "SMBUS01" identifier
   and produce errors.  So they need to constantly patch the compiler for
   each new version of BIOS.

As it is very unlikely that BIOS vendors implement a correct HID in
future, I would propose to consider whether it is possible to work around
the problem by adding MS HID to the Linux i2c-scmi driver.

If state is STATE_IDLE no interrupt should occur. Return IRQ_NONE
if such a spurious interrupt is detected.
Not having to take care of STATE_IDLE later in the interrupt handler
allows to further simplify the interrupt handler in subsequent
patches of this series.

In addition move resetting REG_CTRL_START bit to the start of the
interrupt handler to ensure that the start bit is always reset.
Currently the start bit is not reset for STATE_STOP because
i2c->state is set to STATE_IDLE.

Jayachandran C 4165bd4b91 i2c: xlp9xx: update for ARCH_THUNDER2
ARCH_VULCAN arm64 platform (for Broadcom Vulcan ARM64 processors) has
been discontinued. Cavium's ThunderX2 CN99XX (ARCH_THUNDER2) will be
the next revision of the platform.

Update compile dependencies and ACPI ID to reflect this change. There
is not need to retain ARCH_VULCAN since the Vulcan processor was never
in production and the config option will be removed soon.

Hans de Goede a3d411fb38 i2c: designware: Disable pm for PMIC i2c-bus even if there is no _SEM method
Cherrytrail devices use the dw i2c-bus with uid 7 to access their PMIC.
Even if the i2c-bus to the PMIC is not shared with the SoC's P-Unit
and i2c-designware-baytrail.c thus does not set the pm_disabled flag,
we still need to disable pm so that ACPI PMIC opregions can access the
PMIC during late-suspend and early-resume.

This fixes errors like these blocking suspend:

  i2c_designware 808622C1:06: timeout waiting for bus ready
  ACPI Exception: AE_ERROR, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion]
  acpi 80860F14:02: Failed to change power state to D3hot
  PM: late suspend of devices failed

Hans de Goede 41c80b8a63 i2c: designware: Never suspend i2c-busses used for accessing the system PMIC
Currently we are already setting a pm_runtime_disabled flag and disabling
runtime-pm for i2c-busses used for accessing the system PMIC on x86.
But this is not enough, there are ACPI opregions which may want to access
the PMIC during late-suspend and early-resume, so we need to completely
disable pm to be safe.

This commit renames the flag from pm_runtime_disabled to pm_disabled and
adds the following new behavior if the flag is set:

1) Call dev_pm_syscore_device(dev, true) which disables normal suspend /
   resume and remove the pm_runtime_disabled check from dw_i2c_plat_resume
   since that will now never get called. This fixes suspend_late handlers
   which use ACPI PMIC opregions causing errors like these:

  PM: Suspending system (freeze)
  PM: suspend of devices complete after 1127.751 msecs
  i2c_designware 808622C1:06: timeout waiting for bus ready
  ACPI Exception: AE_ERROR, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion]
  acpi 80860F14:02: Failed to change power state to D3hot
  PM: late suspend of devices failed

2) Set IRQF_NO_SUSPEND irq flag. This fixes resume_early handlers which
   handlers which use ACPI PMIC opregions causing errors like these:

  PM: resume from suspend-to-idle
  i2c_designware 808622C1:06: controller timed out
  ACPI Exception: AE_ERROR, Returned by Handler for [UserDefinedRegion]

Oliver Neukum 78c43af2c1 i2c-designware: increase timeout of semaphore transfer
Our testing shows the semaphore failing to be transferred on CherryTrail
in about 0.5% of all cases. The existing timeout needs to be lengthened
to accommodate the worst cases.

Javier Martinez Canillas 9ad2247442 i2c: exynos5: Avoid transaction timeouts due TRANSFER_DONE_AUTO not set
After commit 7999eecb7e ("i2c: exynos5: fix arbitration lost handling"),
some I2C transactions are failing because the TRANSFER_DONE_AUTO field is
not set in the I2C_TRANS_STATUS register so the i2c->status value is left
to -EINVAL causing the i2c->msg_complete completion to never be signaled.

For example, when reading the time of an I2C rtc on an Exynos5800 machine:

$ cat /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/time
[   25.924594] exynos5-hsi2c 12e10000.i2c: rx timeout
[   65.028365] max77686-rtc max77802-rtc: Fail to read time reg(-22)
cat: /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/time: Invalid argument

The Exynos5422 manual states clearly that most I2C_TRANS_STATUS reg bits
(including TRANSFER_DONE_AUTO) are cleared after the register is read. So
reading has side effects and should only be done if HSI2C_INT_I2C was set.

Jaedon Shin 2de3ec4f1d i2c: brcmstb: Fix START and STOP conditions
The BSC data buffers to send and receive data are each of size 32 bytes
or 8 bytes 'xfersz' depending on SoC. The problem observed for all the
combined message transfer was if length of data transfer was a multiple
of 'xfersz' a repeated START was being transmitted by BSC driver. Fixed
this by appropriately setting START/STOP conditions for such transfers.

Acquire P-Unit access to stop others from accessing the P-Unit while the
PMIC i2c bus is in use. This is necessary because accessing the P-Unit

Hans de Goede 086cb4afef i2c: designware-baytrail: Disallow the CPU to enter C6 or C7 while holding the punit semaphore
On my cherrytrail tablet with axp288 pmic, just doing a bunch of repeated
reads from the pmic, e.g. "i2cdump -y 14 0x34" would lookup the tablet in
1 - 3 runs guaranteed.

This seems to be causes by the cpu trying to enter C6 or C7 while we hold
the punit bus semaphore, at which point everything just hangs.

Avoid this by disallowing the CPU to enter C6 or C7 before acquiring the
punit bus semaphore.

If (!shared_host) simply return 0, this avoids delaying the probe if
iosf_mbi_available() returns false when an i2c bus is not using the
punit semaphore.

Also move the if (!iosf_mbi_available()) check to above the
dev_info, so that we do not repeat the dev_info on every probe
until iosf_mbi_available() returns true.

In case of arbitration lost adequate interrupt sometimes is not signaled.
As a result transfer timeouts and is not retried, as it should. To avoid
such cases code is added to check transaction status in case of every

Stefan Wahren ababb08938 i2c: bcm2835: Avoid possible NULL ptr dereference
Since commit e247454103 ("bcm2835: Fix hang for writing messages
larger than 16 bytes") the interrupt handler is prone to a possible
NULL pointer dereference. This could happen if an interrupt fires
before curr_msg is set by bcm2835_i2c_xfer_msg() and randomly occurs
on the RPi 3. Even this is an unexpected behavior the driver must
handle that with an error instead of a crash.

Add Tegra BPMP I2C driver. The BPMP is the boot and power management
processor embedded in Tegra SoCs. In newer SoC versions, access to one
of the I2C busses goes via the BPMP, requiring a different "proxy" I2C
driver that accesses the bus via the real I2C driver embedded in the
BPMP firmware.

Jarkko Nikula 12688dc21f Revert "i2c: designware: detect when dynamic tar update is possible"
This reverts commit 63d0f0a695.

It caused a regression on platforms where I2C controller is synthesized
with dynamic TAR update disabled. Detection code is testing is bit
DW_IC_CON_10BITADDR_MASTER in register DW_IC_CON read-only but fails to
restore original value in case bit is read-write.

Instead of fixing this we revert the commit since it was preparation for
the commit 0317e6c0f1 ("i2c: designware: do not disable adapter after
transfer") which was also reverted.

Chris Brandt 71ccea095e i2c: riic: correctly finish transfers
This fixes the condition where the controller has not fully completed its
final transfer and leaves the bus and controller in a undesirable state.

At the end of the last transmitted byte, the existing driver would just
signal for a STOP condition to be transmitted then immediately signal
completion. However, the full STOP procedure might not have fully taken
place by the time the runtime PM shuts off the peripheral clock, leaving
the bus in a suspended state.

Alternatively, the STOP condition on the bus may have completed, but when
the next transaction is requested by the upper layer, not all the
necessary register cleanup was finished from the last transfer which made
the driver return BUS BUSY when it really wasn't.

This patch now makes all transmit and receive transactions wait for the
STOP condition to fully complete before signaling a completed transaction.
With this new method, runtime PM no longer seems to be an issue.

Guenter Roeck 22ae11245e i2c: i2c-cros-ec-tunnel: Reduce logging noise
If an i2c access through i2c-cros-ec-tunnel returns an error, the following
log message is seen on the console.

cros-ec-i2c-tunnel ff200000.spi:ec@0:i2c-tunnel:
			Error parsing EC i2c message -121

This can happen a lot if, for example, the i2c-detect command is executed.

Since it is perfectly normal for an i2c controller to report an error,
drop the message. Also, report -ENXIO instead of -EREMOTEIO if the access
error is due to NAK from the device, and return -EIO instead of -EREMOTEIO
for other errors, as suggested in Documentation/i2c/fault-codes.

Gao Pan e13fe92bb5 i2c: imx-lpi2c: add VLLS mode support
When system enters VLLS mode, module power is turned off. As a result,
all registers are reset to HW default value. After exiting VLLS mode,
registers are still in default mode. As a result, the pinctrl settings
are incorrect, which will affect the module function.

The patch recovers the pinctrl setting when exit VLLS mode.

Mike Looijmans 0e1929dede i2c: i2c-cadence: Initialize configuration before probing devices
The cadence I2C driver calls cdns_i2c_writereg(..) to setup a workaround
in the controller, but did so after calling i2c_add_adapter() which starts
probing devices on the bus. Change the order so that the configuration is

Ricardo Ribalda 701dc207bf i2c: piix4: Avoid race conditions with IMC
On AMD's SB800 and upwards, the SMBus is shared with the Integrated
Micro Controller (IMC).

The platform provides a hardware semaphore to avoid race conditions
among them. (Check page 288 of the SB800-Series Southbridges Register
Reference Guide http://support.amd.com/TechDocs/45482.pdf)

Without this patch, many access to the SMBus end with an invalid
transaction or even with the bus stalled.

Tin Huynh 8e598769c5 i2c: designware: fix wrong Tx/Rx FIFO for ACPI
ACPI always sets Tx/Rx FIFO to 32. This configuration will
cause problem if the IP core supports a FIFO size of less than 32.
The driver should read the FIFO size from the IP and select the smaller
one of the two.

Do not infinitely retry register readq and writeq operations
in order to not lock up the CPU in case the TWSI gets stuck.

Return -EIO in case of a failed data read. For all other

Simon Horman ad4a8dc3fe i2c: rcar: Add per-Generation fallback bindings
In the case of Renesas R-Car hardware we know that there are generations of
SoCs, e.g. Gen 2 and Gen 3. But beyond that it's not clear what the
relationship between IP blocks might be. For example, I believe that
r8a7790 is older than r8a7791 but that doesn't imply that the latter is a
descendant of the former or vice versa.

We can, however, by examining the documentation and behaviour of the
hardware at run-time observe that the current driver implementation appears
to be compatible with the IP blocks on SoCs within a given generation.

For the above reasons and convenience when enabling new SoCs a
per-generation fallback compatibility string scheme is being adopted for
drivers for Renesas SoCs.

Also:
* Deprecate renesas,i2c-rcar. It seems poorly named as it is only
  compatible with R-Car Gen 1. It also appears unused in mainline.
* Add some text to describe per-SoC bindings

Gao Pan a55fa9d0e4 i2c: imx-lpi2c: add low power i2c bus driver
This patch adds lpi2c bus driver to support new i.MX products
which use lpi2c instead of the old imx i2c.

The lpi2c can continue operating in stop mode when an appropriate
clock is available. It is also designed for low CPU overhead with
DMA offloading of FIFO register accesses.

Romain Perier 294be03c62 i2c: pxa: Add support for the I2C units found in Armada 3700
The Armada 3700 has two I2C controllers that is compliant with the I2C
Bus Specificiation 2.1, supports multi-master and different bus speed:
Standard mode (up to 100 KHz), Fast mode (up to 400 KHz),
High speed mode (up to 3.4 Mhz).

This IP block has a lot of similarity with the PXA, except some register
offsets and bitfield. This commits adds a basic support for this I2C
unit.

Naveen Kaje cc9086e772 i2c: qup: support SMBus block read
I2C QUP driver relies on SMBus emulation support from the framework.
To handle SMBus block reads, the driver should check I2C_M_RECV_LEN
flag and should read the first byte received as the message length.

The driver configures the QUP hardware to read one byte. Once the
message length is known from this byte, the QUP hardware is configured
to read the rest.

Srinivas reported recently touchscreen and touchpad stopped working in
Haswell based machine in Linux 4.9-rc series with timeout errors from
i2c_designware:

Benjamin Tissoires 4d5538f588 i2c: use an IRQ to report Host Notify events, not alert
The current SMBus Host Notify implementation relies on .alert() to
relay its notifications. However, the use cases where SMBus Host
Notify is needed currently is to signal data ready on touchpads.

This is closer to an IRQ than a custom API through .alert().
Given that the 2 touchpad manufacturers (Synaptics and Elan) that
use SMBus Host Notify don't put any data in the SMBus payload, the
concept actually matches one to one.

Benefits are multiple:
- simpler code and API: the client will just have an IRQ, and
  nothing needs to be added in the adapter beside internally
  enabling it.
- no more specific workqueue, the threading is handled by IRQ core
  directly (when required)
- no more races when removing the device (the drivers are already
  required to disable irq on remove)
- simpler handling for drivers: use plain regular IRQs
- no more dependency on i2c-smbus for i2c-i801 (and any other adapter)
- the IRQ domain is created automatically when the adapter exports
  the Host Notify capability
- the IRQ are assign only if ACPI, OF and the caller did not assign
  one already
- the domain is automatically destroyed on remove
- fewer lines of code (minus 20, yeah!)

On the platform tested, reading SMBNTFDDAT always returns 0 (using 1 read
of a word or 2 of 2 bytes). Given that we are not sure why and that we
don't need to rely on the data parameter in the current users of Host
Notify, remove this part of the code.

If someone wants to re-enable it, just revert this commit and data should
be available.

Russell King 4d6d5f1d08 i2c: designware: fix rx fifo depth tracking
When loading the TX fifo to receive bytes on the I2C bus, we incorrectly
count the number of bytes:

	rx_limit = dev->rx_fifo_depth - dw_readl(dev, DW_IC_RXFLR);

	while (buf_len > 0 && tx_limit > 0 && rx_limit > 0) {
		if (rx_limit - dev->rx_outstanding <= 0)
			break;
		rx_limit--;
		dev->rx_outstanding++;
	}

DW_IC_RXFLR indicates how many bytes are available to be read in the
FIFO, dev->rx_fifo_depth is the FIFO size, and dev->rx_outstanding is
the number of bytes that we've requested to be read so far, but which
have not been read.

Firstly, increasing dev->rx_outstanding and decreasing rx_limit and then
comparing them results in each byte consuming "two" bytes in this
tracking, so this is obviously wrong.

Secondly, the number of bytes that _could_ be received into the FIFO at
any time is the number of bytes we have so far requested but not yet
read from the FIFO - in other words dev->rx_outstanding.

So, in order to request enough bytes to fill the RX FIFO, we need to
request dev->rx_fifo_depth - dev->rx_outstanding bytes.

Modifying the code thusly results in us reaching the maximum number of
bytes outstanding each time we queue more "receive" operations, provided
the transfer allows that to happen.

Tanmay Jagdale 254df038e5 i2c: xlp9xx: ACPI support for I2C clients
The ACPI companion of the adapter has to be set for I2C controller
code to read and attach the slave devices described in the ACPI table
with the I2CSerialBus resource descriptor. Used ACPI_COMPANION_SET
macro to set this.

Jarkko Nikula 973652db6f i2c: designware: Allow reduce bus speed by "clock-frequency" property
Allow more flexibility to bus speed selection. Now if there are I2C
slave connections defined in ACPI the speed of slowest device on the bus
will define the bus speed. However if also "clock-frequency" device
property is defined we should use the slowest of these two.

This is targeted to maker boards where developer may want to connect
slower I2C slave devices to the bus than defined in existing ACPI I2C
slave connections.
