We enable _CRS on all systems from 2008 and later. On older systems, we
ignore _CRS and assume the whole physical address space (excluding RAM and
other devices) is available for PCI devices, but on systems that support
physical address spaces larger than 4GB, it's doubtful that the area above
4GB is really available for PCI.
After d56dbf5bab ("PCI: Allocate 64-bit BARs above 4G when possible"), we
try to use that space above 4GB *first*, so we're more likely to put a
device there.
On Juan's Toshiba Satellite Pro U200, BIOS left the graphics, sound, 1394,
and card reader devices unassigned (but only after Windows had been
booted). Only the sound device had a 64-bit BAR, so it was the only device
placed above 4GB, and hence the only device that didn't work.
Keep _CRS enabled even on pre-2008 systems if they support physical address
space larger than 4GB.

The Foxconn K8M890-8237A has two PCI host bridges, and we can't assign
resources correctly without the information from _CRS that tells us which
address ranges are claimed by which bridge. In the bugs mentioned below,

Commit 97badf873a (device property: Make it possible to use
secondary firmware nodes) uncovered a bug in the x86 (and ia64) PCI
host bridge initialization code that assumes bridge->bus->sysdata
to always point to a struct pci_sysdata object which need not be
the case (in particular, the Xen PCI frontend driver sets it to point
to a different data type). If it is not the case, an incorrect
pointer (or a piece of data that is not a pointer at all) will be
passed to ACPI_COMPANION_SET() and that may cause interesting
breakage to happen going forward.
To work around this problem use the observation that the ACPI
host bridge initialization always passes NULL as parent to
pci_create_root_bus(), so if pcibios_root_bridge_prepare() sees
a non-NULL parent of the bridge, it should not attempt to set
an ACPI companion for it, because that means that
pci_create_root_bus() has been called by someone else.

We use pat_enabled in x86-specific code to see if PAT is enabled
or not but we're granting full access to it even though readers
do not need to set it. If, for instance, we granted access to it
to modules later they then could override the variable
setting... no bueno.
This renames pat_enabled to a new static variable __pat_enabled.
Folks are redirected to use pat_enabled() now.
Code that sets this can only be internal to pat.c. Apart from
the early kernel parameter "nopat" to disable PAT, we also have
a few cases that disable it later and make use of a helper
pat_disable(). It is wrapped under an ifdef but since that code
cannot run unless PAT was enabled its not required to wrap it
with ifdefs, unwrap that. Likewise, since "nopat" doesn't really
change non-PAT systems just remove that ifdef as well.
Although we could add and use an early_param_off(), these
helpers don't use __read_mostly but we want to keep
__read_mostly for __pat_enabled as this is a hot path -- upon
boot, for instance, a simple guest may see ~4k accesses to
pat_enabled(). Since __read_mostly early boot params are not
that common we don't add a helper for them just yet.

This routine has been around for over a decade, but with EISA
being dead and abandoned for about twice that long, the name can
be kind of confusing. The function is going at the PIC Edge/Level
Configuration Registers (ELCR), so rename it as such and mentally
decouple it from the long since dead EISA bus.

An IO port or MMIO resource assigned to a PCI host bridge may be
consumed by the host bridge itself or available to its child
bus/devices. The ACPI specification defines a bit (Producer/Consumer)
to tell whether the resource is consumed by the host bridge itself,
but firmware hasn't used that bit consistently, so we can't rely on it.
Before commit 593669c2ac ("x86/PCI/ACPI: Use common ACPI resource
interfaces to simplify implementation"), arch/x86/pci/acpi.c ignored
all IO port resources defined by acpi_resource_io and
acpi_resource_fixed_io to filter out IO ports consumed by the host
bridge itself.
Commit 593669c2ac ("x86/PCI/ACPI: Use common ACPI resource interfaces
to simplify implementation") started accepting all IO port and MMIO
resources, which caused a regression that IO port resources consumed
by the host bridge itself became available to its child devices.
Then commit 63f1789ec7 ("x86/PCI/ACPI: Ignore resources consumed by
host bridge itself") ignored resources consumed by the host bridge
itself by checking the IORESOURCE_WINDOW flag, which accidently removed
MMIO resources defined by acpi_resource_memory24, acpi_resource_memory32
and acpi_resource_fixed_memory32.
On x86 and IA64 platforms, all IO port and MMIO resources are assumed
to be available to child bus/devices except one special case:
IO port [0xCF8-0xCFF] is consumed by the host bridge itself
to access PCI configuration space.
So explicitly filter out PCI CFG IO ports[0xCF8-0xCFF]. This solution
will also ease the way to consolidate ACPI PCI host bridge common code
from x86, ia64 and ARM64.

Commit b4b55cda58 (Refine the way to release PCI IRQ resources)
introduced a regression in the PCI IRQ resource management by causing
the IRQ resource of a device, established when pci_enabled_device()
is called on a fully disabled device, to be released when the driver
is unbound from the device, regardless of the enable_cnt.
This leads to the situation that an ill-behaved driver can now make a
device unusable to subsequent drivers by an imbalance in their use of
pci_enable/disable_device(). That is a serious problem for secondary
drivers like vfio-pci, which are innocent of the transgressions of
the previous driver.
Since the solution of this problem is not immediate and requires
further discussion, revert commit b4b55cda58 and the issue it was
supposed to address (a bug related to xen-pciback) will be taken
care of in a different way going forward.

Previously, pci_scan_root_bus() created a root PCI bus, enumerated the
devices on it, and called pci_bus_add_devices(), which made the devices
available for drivers to claim them.
Most callers assigned resources to devices after pci_scan_root_bus()
returns, which may be after drivers have claimed the devices. This is
incorrect; the PCI core should not change device resources while a driver
is managing the device.
Remove pci_bus_add_devices() from pci_scan_root_bus() and do it after any
resource assignment in the callers.
Note that ARM's pci_common_init_dev() already called pci_bus_add_devices()
after pci_scan_root_bus(), so we only need to remove the first call:

Some PCI device drivers assume that pci_dev->irq won't change after
calling pci_disable_device() and pci_enable_device() during suspend and
resume.
Commit c03b3b0738 ("x86, irq, mpparse: Release IOAPIC pin when
PCI device is disabled") frees PCI IRQ resources when pci_disable_device()
is called and reallocate IRQ resources when pci_enable_device() is
called again. This breaks above assumption. So commit 3eec595235
("x86, irq, PCI: Keep IRQ assignment for PCI devices during
suspend/hibernation") and 9eabc99a63 ("x86, irq, PCI: Keep IRQ
assignment for runtime power management") fix the issue by avoiding
freeing/reallocating IRQ resources during PCI device suspend/resume.
They achieve this by checking dev.power.is_prepared and
dev.power.runtime_status. PM maintainer, Rafael, then pointed out that
it's really an ugly fix which leaking PM internal state information to
IRQ subsystem.
Recently David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> also reports an
regression in pciback driver caused by commit cffe0a2b5a ("x86, irq:
Keep balance of IOAPIC pin reference count"). Please refer to:

So this patch refine the way to release PCI IRQ resources. Instead of
releasing PCI IRQ resources in pci_disable_device()/
pcibios_disable_device(), we now release it at driver unbinding
notification BUS_NOTIFY_UNBOUND_DRIVER. In other word, we only release
PCI IRQ resources when there's no driver bound to the PCI device, and
it keeps the assumption that pci_dev->irq won't through multiple
invocation of pci_enable_device()/pci_disable_device().

Unlike MSI, which is configured via registers in the MSI capability in
Configuration Space, MSI-X is configured via tables in Memory Space.
These MSI-X tables are mapped by a device BAR, and if no Memory Space
has been assigned to the BAR, MSI-X cannot be used.
Fail MSI-X setup if no space has been assigned for the BAR.
Previously, we ioremapped the MSI-X table even if the resource hadn't been
assigned. In this case, the resource address is undefined (and is often
zero), which may lead to warnings or oopses in this path:
pci_enable_msix
msix_capability_init
msix_map_region
ioremap_nocache
The PCI core sets resource flags to zero when it can't assign space for the
resource (see reset_resource()). There are also some cases where it sets
the IORESOURCE_UNSET flag, e.g., pci_reassigndev_resource_alignment(),
pci_assign_resource(), etc. So we must check for both cases.

struct acpi_resource_address and struct acpi_resource_extended_address64 share substracts
just at different offsets. To unify the parsing functions, OSPMs like Linux
need a new ACPI_ADDRESS64_ATTRIBUTE as their substructs, so they can
extract the shared data.
This patch also synchronizes the structure changes to the Linux kernel.
The usages are searched by matching the following keywords:

Xen overrides __acpi_register_gsi and leaves __acpi_unregister_gsi as is.
That means, an IRQ allocated by acpi_register_gsi_xen_hvm() or

which may cause undesired effects. So override __acpi_unregister_gsi to
NULL for safety.

Currently Xen Domain0 has special treatment for ACPI SCI interrupt,
that is initialize irq for ACPI SCI at early stage in a special way as:

->xen_setup_acpi_sci()
Allocate and initialize irq for ACPI SCI
Function xen_setup_acpi_sci() calls acpi_gsi_to_irq() to get an irq
number for ACPI SCI. But unfortunately acpi_gsi_to_irq() depends on
IOAPIC irqdomains through following path
acpi_gsi_to_irq()
->mp_map_gsi_to_irq()
->mp_map_pin_to_irq()
->check IOAPIC irqdomain
For PV domains, it uses Xen event based interrupt manangement and
doesn't make uses of native IOAPIC, so no irqdomains created for IOAPIC.
This causes Xen domain0 fail to install interrupt handler for ACPI SCI
and all ACPI events will be lost. Please refer to:

So the fix is to get rid of special treatment for ACPI SCI, just treat
ACPI SCI as normal GSI interrupt as:

With above change, there's no need for xen_setup_acpi_sci() anymore.

Every PCI-PCI bridge window should fit inside an upstream bridge window
because orphaned address space is unreachable from the primary side of the
upstream bridge. If we inherit invalid bridge windows that overlap an
upstream window from firmware, clip them to fit and update the bridge
accordingly.

There are more that one SPI controller on the Intel MID boards. This patch
describes the status and IDs of them. From now on we also have to care about
bus number that must be unique per host.
According to the specification the SPI1 has 5 bits for chip selects and SPI2
only 2 bits. The patch makes it depend to PCI ID.
The first controller (SPI1) is DMA capable, meanwhile SPI2 can share same
channels (via software switch) such functionality is not in the scope of this
patch. Thus, attempt to init DMA for SPI2 will always fail for now.

To keep balance of IOAPIC pin reference count, we need to protect
pirq_enable_irq(), acpi_pci_irq_enable() and intel_mid_pci_irq_enable()
from reentrance. There are two cases which will cause reentrance.
The first case is caused by suspend/hibernation. If pcibios_disable_irq
is called during suspending/hibernating, we don't release the assigned
IRQ number, otherwise it may break the suspend/hibernation. So late when
pcibios_enable_irq is called during resume, we shouldn't allocate IRQ
number again.
The second case is that function acpi_pci_irq_enable() may be called
twice for PCI devices present at boot time as below:
1) pci_acpi_init()
--> acpi_pci_irq_enable() if pci_routeirq is true
2) pci_enable_device()
--> pcibios_enable_device()
--> acpi_pci_irq_enable()
We can't kill kernel parameter pci_routeirq yet because it's still
needed for debugging purpose.
So flag irq_managed is introduced to track whether IRQ number is
assigned by OS and to protect pirq_enable_irq(), acpi_pci_irq_enable()
and intel_mid_pci_irq_enable() from reentrance.

While f3761db164 ("x86, irq: Fix build error caused by
9eabc99a635a77cbf09") addressed the original build problem,
declaration, inline stub, and definition still seem misplaced: It isn't
really IO-APIC related, and it's being used solely in arch/x86/pci/.
This also means stubbing it out when !CONFIG_X86_IO_APIC was at least
questionable.

Some BIOSes utilize PCI MMCFG space read/write opertion to trigger
specific errors. EINJ will report errors as below when hitting such
cases:
APEI: Can not request [mem 0x83f990a0-0x83f990a3] for APEI EINJ Trigger registers
It is because on x86 platform ACPI based PCI MMCFG logic has
reserved all MMCFG spaces so that EINJ can't reserve it again.
We already trust the ACPI/APEI code when using the EINJ interface
so it is not a big leap to also trust it to access the right
MMCFG addresses. Skip address checking to allow the access.

"The biggest change is full PAT support from Jürgen Gross:
The x86 architecture offers via the PAT (Page Attribute Table) a
way to specify different caching modes in page table entries. The
PAT MSR contains 8 entries each specifying one of 6 possible cache
modes. A pte references one of those entries via 3 bits:
_PAGE_PAT, _PAGE_PWT and _PAGE_PCD.
The Linux kernel currently supports only 4 different cache modes.
The PAT MSR is set up in a way that the setting of _PAGE_PAT in a
pte doesn't matter: the top 4 entries in the PAT MSR are the same
as the 4 lower entries.
This results in the kernel not supporting e.g. write-through mode.
Especially this cache mode would speed up drivers of video cards
which now have to use uncached accesses.
OTOH some old processors (Pentium) don't support PAT correctly and
the Xen hypervisor has been using a different PAT MSR configuration
for some time now and can't change that as this setting is part of
the ABI.
This patch set abstracts the cache mode from the pte and introduces
tables to translate between cache mode and pte bits (the default
cache mode "write back" is hard-wired to PAT entry 0). The tables
are statically initialized with values being compatible to old
processors and current usage. As soon as the PAT MSR is changed
(or - in case of Xen - is read at boot time) the tables are changed
accordingly. Requests of mappings with special cache modes are
always possible now, in case they are not supported there will be a
fallback to a compatible but slower mode.
Summing it up, this patch set adds the following features:
- capability to support WT and WP cache modes on processors with
full PAT support
- processors with no or uncorrect PAT support are still working as
today, even if WT or WP cache mode are selected by drivers for
some pages
- reduction of Xen special handling regarding cache mode
Another change is a boot speedup on ridiculously large RAM systems,
plus other smaller fixes"

If the hardware supports APIC virtualization we may decide not to use
pirqs and instead use APIC/x2APIC directly, meaning that we don't want
to set x86_msi.setup_msi_irqs and x86_msi.teardown_msi_irq to
Xen-specific routines. However, x2APIC is not set up by the time
pci_xen_hvm_init() is called so we need to postpone setting these ops
until later, when we know which APIC mode is used.
(Note that currently x2APIC is never initialized on HVM guests. This
may change in the future)
