In addition to the diagnostic data from the local SFP transceiver this
patch adds an interface to read the advertised buffer-to-buffer credit from
the local FC_Port.
With this patch the userspace-interface will only read data stored in the
corresponding "diagnostic buffer" (that was stored during completion of a
previous Exchange Config Data command). Implicit updating will follow later
in this series.

This patch adds implicit updates to the sysfs entries that read the
diagnostic data stored in the "caching buffer" for Exchange Port Data.
An update is triggered once the buffer is older than ZFCP_DIAG_MAX_AGE
milliseconds (5s). This entails sending an Exchange Port Data command to
the FCP-Channel, and during its ingress path updating the cached data and
the timestamp. To prevent multiple concurrent userspace-applications from
triggering this update in parallel we synchronize all of them using a
wait-queue (waiting threads are interruptible; the updating thread is not).

This adds an interface to read the diagnostics of the local SFP transceiver
of an FCP-Channel from userspace. This comes in the form of new sysfs
entries that are attached to the CCW device representing the FCP
device. Each type of data gets its own sysfs entry; the whole collection of
entries is pooled into a new child-directory of the CCW device node:
"diagnostics".
Adds sysfs entries for:
* sfp_invalid: boolean value evaluating to whether the following 5
fields are invalid; {0, 1}; 1 - invalid
* temperature: transceiver temp.; unit 1/256°C;
range [-128°C, +128°C]
* vcc: supply voltage; unit 100μV; range [0, 6.55V]
* tx_bias: transmitter laser bias current; unit 2μA;
range [0, 131mA]
* tx_power: coupled TX output power; unit 0.1μW; range [0, 6.5mW]
* rx_power: received optical power; unit 0.1μW; range [0, 6.5mW]
* optical_port: boolean value evaluating to whether the FCP-Channel has
an optical port; {0, 1}; 1 - optical
* fec_active: boolean value evaluating to whether 16G FEC is active;
{0, 1}; 1 - active
* port_tx_type: nibble describing the port type; {0, 1, 2, 3};
0 - unknown, 1 - short wave,
2 - long wave LC 1310nm, 3 - long wave LL 1550nm
* connector_type: two bits describing the connector type; {0, 1};
0 - unknown, 1 - SFP+
This is only supported if the FCP-Channel in turn supports reporting the
SFP Diagnostic Data, otherwise read() on these new entries will return
EOPNOTSUPP (this affects only adapters older than FICON Express8S, on
Mainframe generations older than z14). Other possible errors for read()
include ENOLINK, ENODEV and ENOMEM.
With this patch the userspace-interface will only read data stored in
the corresponding "diagnostic buffer" (that was stored during completion
of an previous Exchange Port Data command). Implicit updating will
follow later in this series.

A new FCP channel feature allows us to read the diagnostics from our local
SFP transceivers. To make use of that add a flag
(FSF_FEATURE_REQUEST_SFP_DATA) to the feature-set we request from the FCP
channel. Whether the channel actually implements this can be determined via
an other new flag (FSF_FEATURE_REPORT_SFP_DATA), that is set in the
adapter_features field of the adapter structure after Exchange Config Data
finished.
Also add the corresponding definitions in the QTCB Bottom for Exchange Port
Data. These new definitions are only valid, if FSF_FEATURE_REPORT_SFP_DATA
is set.

The FCP channel exposes two central interfaces to receive information about
the local FCP-Adapter/-Port: Exchange Port and Exchange Config Data. Using
these commands can negatively impact the adapter if we allow them to be
sent at a very high rate.
The later parts of this patchset will introduce new user-interfaces to
receive more diagnostics from the adapter. To prevent any negative impact
from using those, this patch adds a simple caching-mechanism that will
prevent a malicious/faulty userspace-application from generating an
abnormal high amount of Exchange Port/Config Data traffic.
Relevant diagnostic data that is received via Exchange Config/Port Data is
cached in buffers associated with the corresponding adapter-struct. Each
buffer is associated with a timestamp that signals how old the data is,
and, added via a following patch in this series, lets userspace-interfaces
determine when the data is too old and needs to be updated.
Buffer-updates are made during the normal response path of the
corresponding command. With this patch only the output of the Exchange Port
Data command is captured.

Adds a new FSF-Request status flag (ZFCP_STATUS_FSFREQ_XDATAINCOMPLETE)
that signal that the data received using Exchange Config Data or Exchange
Port Data was incomplete. This new flags is set in the respective handlers
during the response path.
With this patch, only the synchronous FSF-functions for each command got
support for the new flag, otherwise it is transparent.
Together with this new flag and already existing status flags the
synchronous FSF-functions are extended to now detect whether the received
data is complete, incomplete or completely invalid (this includes cases
where a command ran into a timeout). This is now signaled back to the
caller, where previously only failures on the request path would result in
a bad return-code.
For complete data the return-code remains 0. For incomplete data a new
return-code -EAGAIN is added to the function-interface. For completely
invalid data the already existing return-code -EIO is reused - formerly
this was used to signal failures on the request path.
Existing callers of the FSF-functions are adjusted so that they behave as
before for return-code 0 and -EAGAIN, to not change the user-interface. As
-EIO existed all along, it was already exposed to the user - and needed
handling - and will now also be exposed in this new special case.

MTIOCPOS and MTIOCGET are incompatible between 32-bit and 64-bit user
space, and traditionally have been translated in fs/compat_ioctl.c.
To get rid of that translation handler, move a corresponding
implementation into each of the four drivers implementing those commands.
The interesting part of that is now in a new linux/mtio.h header that
wraps the existing uapi/linux/mtio.h header and provides an abstraction
to let drivers handle both cases easily. Using an in_compat_syscall()
check, the caller does not have to keep track of whether this was
called through .unlocked_ioctl() or .compat_ioctl().

Using __field_struct for the schib is convenient, but it doesn't
appear to let us filter based on any of the schib elements.
Specifying the full schid or any element within it results
in various errors by the parser. So, expand that out to its
component elements, so we can limit the trace to a single device.
While we are at it, rename this trace to the function name, so we
remember what is being traced instead of an abstract reference to the
function control bit of the SCSW.

Commit 37db8985b2 ("s390/cio: add basic protected virtualization
support") breaks virtio-ccw devices with VIRTIO_F_IOMMU_PLATFORM for non
Protected Virtualization (PV) guests. The problem is that the dma_mask
of the ccw device, which is used by virtio core, gets changed from 64 to
31 bit, because some of the DMA allocations do require 31 bit
addressable memory. For PV the only drawback is that some of the virtio
structures must end up in ZONE_DMA because we have the bounce the
buffers mapped via DMA API anyway.
But for non PV guests we have a problem: because of the 31 bit mask
guests bigger than 2G are likely to try bouncing buffers. The swiotlb
however is only initialized for PV guests, because we don't want to
bounce anything for non PV guests. The first such map kills the guest.
Since the DMA API won't allow us to specify for each allocation whether
we need memory from ZONE_DMA (31 bit addressable) or any DMA capable
memory will do, let us use coherent_dma_mask (which is used for
allocations) to force allocating form ZONE_DMA while changing dma_mask
to DMA_BIT_MASK(64) so that at least the streaming API will regard
the whole memory DMA capable.

On excessive bit errors for the FCP channel ingress fibre path, the channel
notifies us. Previously, we only emitted a kernel message and a trace
record. Since performance can become suboptimal with I/O timeouts due to
bit errors, we now stop using an FCP device by default on channel
notification so multipath on top can timely failover to other paths. A new
module parameter zfcp.ber_stop can be used to get zfcp old behavior.
User explanation of new kernel message:
* Description:
* The FCP channel reported that its bit error threshold has been exceeded.
* These errors might result from a problem with the physical components
* of the local fibre link into the FCP channel.
* The problem might be damage or malfunction of the cable or
* cable connection between the FCP channel and
* the adjacent fabric switch port or the point-to-point peer.
* Find details about the errors in the HBA trace for the FCP device.
* The zfcp device driver closed down the FCP device
* to limit the performance impact from possible I/O command timeouts.
* User action:
* Check for problems on the local fibre link, ensure that fibre optics are
* clean and functional, and all cables are properly plugged.
* After the repair action, you can manually recover the FCP device by
* writing "0" into its "failed" sysfs attribute.
* If recovery through sysfs is not possible, set the CHPID of the device
* offline and back online on the service element.

This reverts commit 7e64db1597.
The thin provisioning feature introduces an IOCTL and the discard support
to allow userspace tools and filesystems to release unused and previously
allocated space respectively.
During some internal performance improvements and further tests, the
release of allocated space revealed some issues that may lead to data
corruption in some configurations when filesystems are mounted with
discard support enabled.
While we're working on a fix and trying to clarify the situation,
this commit reverts the discard support for ESE volumes to prevent
potential data corruption.

It is possible that the CCW commands for reading volume and extent pool
information are not supported, either by the storage server (for
dedicated DASDs) or by z/VM (for virtual devices, such as MDISKs).
As a command reject will occur in such a case, the current error
handling leads to a failing online processing and thus the DASD can't be
used at all.
Since the data being read is not essential for an fully operational
DASD, the error handling can be removed. Information about the failing
command is sent to the s390dbf debug feature.

The common I/O layer is maintaining an "intparm" inspired by
the hardware intparm for driver usage. This "intparm" is not
only applicaple for ssch, but also for hsch/csch. The kerneldoc
states that it is only updated for hsch/csch if no prior request
is pending; however, this is not what the code does (whether
that would actually desireable is a different issue.)

Now that the pkey kernel module also supports CCA AES CIPHER keys:
Add binary read-only sysfs attributes for the pkey module
that can be used to read random CCA AES CIPHER secure keys from,
similar to the already existing sysfs attributes for AES DATA and
random protected keys. Keys are read from these attributes using
a cat-like interface.
A typical use case for those keys is to encrypt a swap device
using the paes cipher. During processing of /etc/crypttab, the
CCA random AES CIPHER secure key to encrypt the swap device is
read from one of the attributes.
The following attributes are added:
ccacipher/ccacipher_aes_128
ccacipher/ccacipher_aes_192
ccacipher/ccacipher_aes_256
ccacipher/ccacipher_aes_128_xts
ccacipher/ccacipher_aes_256_xts
Each attribute emits a secure key blob for the corresponding
key size and cipher mode.

Pull LED updates from Jacek Anaszewski:
"In this cycle we've finally managed to contribute the patch set
sorting out LED naming issues. Besides that there are many changes
scattered among various LED class drivers and triggers.
LED naming related improvements:
- add new 'function' and 'color' fwnode properties and deprecate
'label' property which has been frequently abused for conveying
vendor specific names that have been available in sysfs anyway
- introduce a set of standard LED_FUNCTION* definitions
- introduce a set of standard LED_COLOR_ID* definitions
- add a new {devm_}led_classdev_register_ext() API with the
capability of automatic LED name composition basing on the
properties available in the passed fwnode; the function is
backwards compatible in a sense that it uses 'label' data, if
present in the fwnode, for creating LED name
- add tools/leds/get_led_device_info.sh script for retrieving LED
vendor, product and bus names, if applicable; it also performs
basic validation of an LED name
- update following drivers and their DT bindings to use the new LED
registration API:
- leds-an30259a, leds-gpio, leds-as3645a, leds-aat1290, leds-cr0014114,
leds-lm3601x, leds-lm3692x, leds-lp8860, leds-lt3593, leds-sc27xx-blt
Other LED class improvements:
- replace {devm_}led_classdev_register() macros with inlines
- allow to call led_classdev_unregister() unconditionally
- switch to use fwnode instead of be stuck with OF one
LED triggers improvements:
- led-triggers:
- fix dereferencing of null pointer
- fix a memory leak bug
- ledtrig-gpio:
- GPIO 0 is valid
Drop superseeded apu2/3 support from leds-apu since for apu2+ a newer,

- drop profile field from priv data
- drop iosize field from priv data
- drop enum_apu_led_platform_types
- drop superseeded apu2/3 led support
- add pr_fmt prefix for better log output
- fix error message on probing failure
Other misc fixes and improvements to existing LED class drivers:
- leds-ns2, leds-max77650:
- add of_node_put() before return
- leds-pwm, leds-is31fl32xx:
- use struct_size() helper

constraint, and allows us to defer the TX doorbell until
(a) the buffer is full (since each buffer needs its own doorbell), or
(b) the entire TX queue is full, or
(b) we reached the BQL limit.

Due to their large MTU and potentially low utilization of TX buffers,
IQD devices in particular require fast TX recycling. This makes them
a prime candidate for a TX NAPI path in qeth.
qeth_tx_poll() uses the recently introduced qdio_inspect_queue() helper
to poll the TX queue for completed buffers. To avoid hogging the CPU for
too long, we yield to the stack after completing an entire queue's worth
of buffers.
While IQD is expected to transfer its buffers synchronously (and thus
doesn't support TX interrupts), a timer covers for the odd case where a
TX buffer doesn't complete synchronously. Currently this timer should
only ever fire for
(1) the mcast queue,
(2) the occasional race, where the NAPI poll code observes an update to
queue->used_buffers while the TX doorbell hasn't been issued yet.

This consolidates the SW statistics code, and improves it to
(1) account for the header overhead of each segment on a TSO skb,
(2) count dangling packets as in-error (during eg. shutdown), and
(3) only count offloads when the skb was successfully transmitted.
We also count each segment of an TSO skb as one packet - except for
tx_dropped, to be consistent with dev->tx_dropped.

If a driver wants to use the new Output Queue poll code, then the qdio
layer must disable its internal Queue scanning. Let the driver select
this mode by passing a special scan_threshold of 0.
As the scan_threshold is the same for all Output Queues, also move it
into the main qdio_irq struct. This allows for fast opt-out checking, a
driver is expected to operate either _all_ or none of its Output Queues
in polling mode.

While commit d36deae750 ("qdio: extend API to allow polling") enhanced
the qdio layer so that drivers can poll their Input Queues, we don't
have the corresponding infrastructure for Output Queues yet.
Factor out a helper that scans a single QDIO Queue, so that qeth can
implement TX NAPI on top of it.
While doing so, remove the duplicated tracking of the next-to-scan index
(q->first_to_check vs q->first_to_kick) in this code path.
qdio_handle_aobs() needs to move slightly upwards in the code hierarchy,
so that it's still called from the polling path.

Commit d4c08afafa ("s390/qeth: streamline SNMP cmd code") removed
the bounds checking for req_len, under the assumption that the check in
qeth_alloc_cmd() would suffice.
But that code path isn't sufficiently robust to handle a user-provided
data_length, which could overflow (when adding the cmd header overhead)
before being checked against QETH_BUFSIZE. We end up allocating just a
tiny iob, and the subsequent copy_from_user() writes past the end of
that iob.
Special-case this path and add a coarse bounds check, to protect against
maliciuous requests. This let's the subsequent code flow do its normal
job and precise checking, without risk of overflow.

Introduce new ioctls and structs to be used with these new ioctls
which are able to handle CCA AES secure keys and CCA AES cipher keys:
PKEY_GENSECK2: Generate secure key, version 2.
Generate either a CCA AES secure key or a CCA AES cipher key.
PKEY_CLR2SECK2: Generate secure key from clear key value, version 2.
Construct a CCA AES secure key or CCA AES cipher key from a given
clear key value.
PKEY_VERIFYKEY2: Verify the given secure key, version 2.
Check for correct key type. If cardnr and domain are given, also
check if this apqn is able to handle this type of key. If cardnr and
domain are 0xFFFF, on return these values are filled with an apqn
able to handle this key. The function also checks for the master key
verification patterns of the key matching to the current or
alternate mkvp of the apqn. CCA AES cipher keys are also checked
for CPACF export allowed (CPRTCPAC flag). Currently CCA AES secure
keys and CCA AES cipher keys are supported (may get extended in the
future).
PKEY_KBLOB2PROTK2: Transform a key blob (of any type) into
a protected key, version 2. Difference to version 1 is only that
this new ioctl has additional parameters to provide a list of
apqns to be used for the transformation.
PKEY_APQNS4K: Generate a list of APQNs based on the key blob given.
Is able to find out which type of secure key is given (CCA AES
secure key or CCA AES cipher key) and tries to find all matching
crypto cards based on the MKVP and maybe other criterias (like CCA
AES cipher keys need a CEX6C or higher). The list of APQNs is
further filtered by the key's mkvp which needs to match to either
the current mkvp or the alternate mkvp (which is the old mkvp on CCA
adapters) of the apqns. The flags argument may be used to limit the
matching apqns. If the PKEY_FLAGS_MATCH_CUR_MKVP is given, only the
current mkvp of each apqn is compared. Likewise with the
PKEY_FLAGS_MATCH_ALT_MKVP. If both are given it is assumed to return
apqns where either the current or the alternate mkvp matches. If no
matching APQN is found, the ioctl returns with 0 but the
apqn_entries value is 0.
PKEY_APQNS4KT: Generate a list of APQNs based on the key type given.
Build a list of APQNs based on the given key type and maybe further
restrict the list by given master key verification patterns.
For different key types there may be different ways to match the
master key verification patterns. For CCA keys (CCA data key and CCA
cipher key) the first 8 bytes of cur_mkvp refer to the current mkvp
value of the apqn and the first 8 bytes of the alt_mkvp refer to the
old mkvp. The flags argument controls if the apqns current and/or
alternate mkvp should match. If the PKEY_FLAGS_MATCH_CUR_MKVP is
given, only the current mkvp of each apqn is compared. Likewise with
the PKEY_FLAGS_MATCH_ALT_MKVP. If both are given, it is assumed to
return apqns where either the current or the alternate mkvp
matches. If no matching APQN is found, the ioctl returns with 0 but
the apqn_entries value is 0.
These new ioctls are now prepared for another new type of secure key
blob which may come in the future. They all use a pointer to the key
blob and a key blob length information instead of some hardcoded byte
array. They all use the new enums pkey_key_type, pkey_key_size and
pkey_key_info for getting/setting key type, key size and additional
info about the key. All but the PKEY_VERIFY2 ioctl now work based on a
list of apqns. This list is walked through trying to perform the
operation on exactly this apqn without any further checking (like card
type or online state). If the apqn fails, simple the next one in the
list is tried until success (return 0) or the end of the list is
reached (return -1 with errno ENODEV). All apqns in the list need to
be exact apqns (0xFFFF as any card or domain is not allowed). There
are two new ioctls which can be used to build a list of apqns based on
a key or key type and maybe restricted by match to a current or
alternate master key verifcation pattern.

With that uncompressed kernel is starting with .bss section zeroed and
no .bss section usage restrictions apply. Which makes chkbss checks for

qeth_send_control_data() and allocates a qeth_reply struct. The way we

Clean up things by moving most of qeth_reply's content into the main

Callbacks for a cmd reply run outside the protection of card->lock, to
allow for additional cmds to be issued & enqueued in parallel.
When qeth_send_control_data() bails out for a cmd without having
received a reply (eg. due to timeout), its callback may concurrently be
processing a reply that just arrived. In this case, the callback
potentially accesses a stale reply->reply_param area that eg. was
on-stack and has already been released.
To avoid this race, add some locking so that qeth_send_control_data()
can (1) wait for a concurrently running callback, and (2) zap any
pending callback that still wants to run.

After getting a storage server event that causes the DASD device driver
to update its unit address configuration during a device shutdown there is
the possibility of an endless loop in the device driver.
In the system log there will be ongoing DASD error messages with RC: -19.
The reason is that the loop starting the ruac request only terminates when
the retry counter is decreased to 0. But in the sleep_on function there are
early exit paths that do not decrease the retry counter.
Prevent an endless loop by handling those cases separately.
Remove the unnecessary do..while loop since the sleep_on function takes
care of retries by itself.

This patch extends the sysfs interface with two new attributes for the
CEX4, CEX5 and CEX6 crypto cards/queues in coprocessor ('CCA') mode:
/sys/devices/ap/cardxx/serialnr
/sys/devices/ap/cardxx/xx.yyyy/mkvps
The serialnr attribute is card based and shows the 8 character ASCII
serial number string which should unique identify the card.
The mkvps is queue based and displays 3 lines of information about the
new, current and old master key register:
AES NEW: <new_aes_mk_state> <new_aes_mk_mkvp>
AES CUR: <cur_aes_mk_state> <cur_aes_mk_mkvp>
AES OLD: <old_aes_mk_state> <old_aes_mk_mkvp>
with
<new_aes_mk_state>: 'empty' or 'partial' or 'full'
<cur_aes_mk_state>: 'valid' or 'invalid'
<old_aes_mk_state>: 'valid' or 'invalid'
<new_aes_mk_mkvp>, <cur_aes_mk_mkvp>, <old_aes_mk_mkvp>
8 byte hex string with leading 0x
MKVP means Master Key Verification Pattern and is a folded hash over
the key value. Only the states 'full' and 'valid' result in displaying
a useful mkvp, otherwise a mkvp of all bytes zero is shown. If for any
reason the FQ fails and the (cached) information is not available, the
state '-' will be shown with the mkvp value also '-'. The values shown
here are the very same as the cca panel tools displays. As of now only
the AES master keys states and verification patterns are shown. A CCA
APQN also has similar master key registers for DES, RSA and ECC. So
the content of this attribute may get extended.
Reading the sysfs attribute automatically triggers an FQ CPRB to be
sent to the queue as long as the queue is (soft-) online. For the
serialnr attribute the queue with the default domain id is addressed
(if available and valid). This is reasonable as it is assumed that
this sysfs interface is not performance critical and on the other side
a master key change should be visiable as soon as possible. When a
queue is (soft-) offline however, the cached values are displayed. If
no cached values are available, the serial number string will be empty
and the mkvp lines will show state '-' and mkvp value '-'.

Currently the current and old master key verification pattern

There is a small window where it's possible that we could be working
on an interrupt (queued in the workqueue) and setting up a channel
program (i.e allocating memory, pinning pages, translating address).
This can lead to allocating and freeing the channel program at the
same time and can cause memory corruption.
Let's not call cp_free if we are currently processing a channel program.
The only way we know for sure that we don't have a thread setting
up a channel program is when the state is set to VFIO_CCW_STATE_CP_PENDING.

The comment is misleading because it tells us that
we should set orb.cmd.c64 before calling ccwchain_calc_length,
otherwise the function ccwchain_calc_length would return an
error. This is not completely accurate.
We want to allow an orb without cmd.c64, and this is fine
as long as the channel program does not use IDALs. But we do
want to reject any channel program that uses IDALs and does
not set the flag, which is what we do in ccwchain_calc_length.
After we have done the ccw processing, we need to set cmd.c64,
as we use IDALs for all translated channel programs.
Also for better code readability let's move the setting of
cmd.c64 within the non error path.

GCC v9 emits this warning:
CC drivers/s390/scsi/zfcp_erp.o

This is a possible false positive case, as also documented in the GCC
documentations:

The actual code-sequence is like this:
Various callers can invoke the function below with the argument "want"
being one of:
ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_ADAPTER,
ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_PORT_FORCED,
ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_PORT, or
ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_LUN.
zfcp_erp_action_enqueue(want, ...)
...
need = zfcp_erp_required_act(want, ...)
need = want
...
maybe: need = ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_PORT
maybe: need = ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_ADAPTER
...
return need
...
zfcp_erp_setup_act(need, ...)
struct zfcp_erp_action *erp_action; // <== line 217
...
switch(need) {
case ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_LUN:
...
erp_action = &zfcp_sdev->erp_action;
WARN_ON_ONCE(erp_action->port != port); // <== access
...
break;
case ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_PORT:
case ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_PORT_FORCED:
...
erp_action = &port->erp_action;
WARN_ON_ONCE(erp_action->port != port); // <== access
...
break;
case ZFCP_ERP_ACTION_REOPEN_ADAPTER:
...
erp_action = &adapter->erp_action;
WARN_ON_ONCE(erp_action->port != NULL); // <== access
...
break;
}
...
WARN_ON_ONCE(erp_action->adapter != adapter); // <== access
When zfcp_erp_setup_act() is called, 'need' will never be anything else
than one of the 4 possible enumeration-names that are used in the
switch-case, and 'erp_action' is initialized for every one of them, before
it is used. Thus the warning is a false positive, as documented.
We introduce the extra if{} in the beginning to create an extra code-flow,
so the compiler can be convinced that the switch-case will never see any
other value.
BUG_ON()/BUG() is intentionally not used to not crash anything, should
this ever happen anyway - right now it's impossible, as argued above; and
it doesn't introduce a 'default:' switch-case to retain warnings should
'enum zfcp_erp_act_type' ever be extended and no explicit case be
introduced. See also v5.0 commit 399b6c8bc9 ("scsi: zfcp: drop old
default switch case which might paper over missing case").

When tracing instances where we open and close WKA ports, we also pass the
request-ID of the respective FSF command.
But after successfully sending the FSF command we must not use the
request-object anymore, as this might result in an use-after-free (see
"zfcp: fix request object use-after-free in send path causing seqno
errors" ).
To fix this add a new variable that caches the request-ID before sending
the request. This won't change during the hand-off to the FCP channel,
and so it's safe to trace this cached request-ID later, instead of using
the request object.

With a recent change to our send path for FSF commands we introduced a
possible use-after-free of request-objects, that might further lead to
zfcp crafting bad requests, which the FCP channel correctly complains
about with an error (FSF_PROT_SEQ_NUMB_ERROR). This error is then handled
by an adapter-wide recovery.
The following sequence illustrates the possible use-after-free:
Send Path:
int zfcp_fsf_open_port(struct zfcp_erp_action *erp_action)
{
struct zfcp_fsf_req *req;
...
spin_lock_irq(&qdio->req_q_lock);
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// protects QDIO queue during sending
...
req = zfcp_fsf_req_create(qdio,
FSF_QTCB_OPEN_PORT_WITH_DID,
SBAL_SFLAGS0_TYPE_READ,
qdio->adapter->pool.erp_req);
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// allocation of the request-object
...
retval = zfcp_fsf_req_send(req);
...
spin_unlock_irq(&qdio->req_q_lock);
return retval;
}
static int zfcp_fsf_req_send(struct zfcp_fsf_req *req)
{
struct zfcp_adapter *adapter = req->adapter;
struct zfcp_qdio *qdio = adapter->qdio;
...
zfcp_reqlist_add(adapter->req_list, req);
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// add request to our driver-internal hash-table for tracking
// (protected by separate lock req_list->lock)
...
if (zfcp_qdio_send(qdio, &req->qdio_req)) {
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// hand-off the request to FCP channel;
// the request can complete at any point now
...
}
/* Don't increase for unsolicited status */
if (!zfcp_fsf_req_is_status_read_buffer(req))
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// possible use-after-free
adapter->fsf_req_seq_no++;
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// because of the use-after-free we might
// miss this accounting, and as follow-up
// this results in the FCP channel error
// FSF_PROT_SEQ_NUMB_ERROR
adapter->req_no++;
return 0;
}
static inline bool
zfcp_fsf_req_is_status_read_buffer(struct zfcp_fsf_req *req)
{
return req->qtcb == NULL;
// ^^^^^^^^^
// possible use-after-free
}
Response Path:
void zfcp_fsf_reqid_check(struct zfcp_qdio *qdio, int sbal_idx)
{
...
struct zfcp_fsf_req *fsf_req;
...
for (idx = 0; idx < QDIO_MAX_ELEMENTS_PER_BUFFER; idx++) {
...
fsf_req = zfcp_reqlist_find_rm(adapter->req_list,
req_id);
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// remove request from our driver-internal
// hash-table (lock req_list->lock)
...
zfcp_fsf_req_complete(fsf_req);
}
}
static void zfcp_fsf_req_complete(struct zfcp_fsf_req *req)
{
...
if (likely(req->status & ZFCP_STATUS_FSFREQ_CLEANUP))
zfcp_fsf_req_free(req);
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
// free memory for request-object
else
complete(&req->completion);
// ^^^^^^^^
// completion notification for code-paths that wait
// synchronous for the completion of the request; in
// those the memory is freed separately
}
The result of the use-after-free only affects the send path, and can not
lead to any data corruption. In case we miss the sequence-number
accounting, because the memory was already re-purposed, the next FSF
command will fail with said FCP channel error, and we will recover the
whole adapter. This causes no additional errors, but it slows down
traffic. There is a slight chance of the same thing happen again
recursively after the adapter recovery, but so far this has not been seen.
This was seen under z/VM, where the send path might run on a virtual CPU
that gets scheduled away by z/VM, while the return path might still run,
and so create the necessary timing. Running with KASAN can also slow down
the kernel sufficiently to run into this user-after-free, and then see the
report by KASAN.
To fix this, simply pull the test for the sequence-number accounting in
front of the hand-off to the FCP channel (this information doesn't change
during hand-off), but leave the sequence-number accounting itself where it
is.
To make future regressions of the same kind less likely, add comments to
all closely related code-paths.
