Sergei Shtylyov 3c78658e26 sh_eth: fix DMA channel misreporting
Currently 'ifconfig' for the Ethernet devices handled by this driver  shows
"DMA chan: ff" while the driver doesn't use any DMA channels. Not assigning
a value to 'net_device::dma' causes 'ifconfig'  to  correctly not report  a
DMA channel.

Sergei Shtylyov 7927092253 sh_eth: call sh_eth_tsu_write() from sh_eth_chip_reset_giga()
sh_eth_chip_reset_giga() doesn't really need to use direct iowrite32() when
writing  to the ARSTR register,  it can use sh_eth_tsu_write() as all other

Sergei Shtylyov ec65cfce50 sh_eth: rename ARSTR register bit
The Renesas RZ/A1H manual names the software reset bit in the software reset
register (ARSTR) ARST which makes a bit more sense than the ARSTR_ARSTR name
used now  by the driver -- rename the latter to ARSTR_ARST.

Sergei Shtylyov 97717edc69 sh_eth: use EDMR_SRST_GETHER in sh_eth_check_reset()
sh_eth_check_reset() uses a bare number where EDMR_SRST_GETHER would fit,
i.e. the receive/trasmit software reset bits that comprise EDMR_SRST_GETHER
read as 1  while the corresponding reset is in progress and thus, when both
are 0, the reset is complete.

Sergei Shtylyov 49dd48dafe sh_eth: re-enable-E-MAC interrupts in sh_eth_set_ringparam()
The E-MAC interrupts are left disabled when the ring parameters are changed
via 'ethtool'. In order to fix this, it's enough to call sh_eth_dev_init()
with 'true' instead of 'false' for the second argument (which conveniently
allows us to remove the following code re-enabling E-DMAC interrupts and
reception).

Sergei Shtylyov ad846aa52c sh_eth: do not call netif_start_queue() from sh_eth_dev_init()
Iff  sh_eth_phy_start() call fails in sh_eth_open(), the netif_start_queue()
call done by sh_eth_dev_init()  is not undone.  In order to deal with that,
stop calling netif_start_queue()  from there, so that it can be called only
when the device is fully opened and sh_eth_dev_init() only deals with the
hardware initialization, symmetrically to sh_eth_dev_exit()...

Sergei Shtylyov d0ba913488 sh_eth: advance 'rxdesc' later in sh_eth_ring_format()
Iff dma_map_single() fails, 'rxdesc'  should point  to the last filled RX
descriptor, so  that it can be marked as the last one, however the driver
would have  already  advanced it by that time. In order to fix that, only
fill  an RX descriptor  once all the data for it is ready.

Sergei Shtylyov c1b7fca650 sh_eth: fix NULL pointer dereference in sh_eth_ring_format()
In a low memory situation, if netdev_alloc_skb() fails on a first RX ring
loop iteration  in sh_eth_ring_format(), 'rxdesc' is still NULL.  Avoid
kernel oops by adding the 'rxdesc' check after the loop.

Sergei Shtylyov b2b14d2f57 sh_eth: factor out register bit twiddling code
The  driver has often repeated pattern of reading a register,  AND'ing and/or
OR'ing some bits  and writing  the  value back. Factor the pattern out into
sh_eth_modify() -- this saves  84 bytes of code with ARM gcc 4.7.3.

While at it, update Cogent Embedded's copyright.

Sergei Shtylyov bffa731f8f sh_eth: stop reading ECMR in sh_eth_dev_init()
The code in sh_eth_dev_init()  twiddling the ECMR bits always looked a bit
strange to me:  if one intends to respect 'mdp->duplex', why save old value
of the ECMR.DM bit? As all the other bits are zeroed anyway, we don't really
need to read ECMR before writing to it.

Andrew Lunn e7f4dc3536 mdio: Move allocation of interrupts into core
Have mdio_alloc() create the array of interrupt numbers, and
initialize it to POLLING. This is what most MDIO drivers want, so
allowing code to be removed from the drivers.

Sergei Shtylyov 888cc8c20c sh_eth: remove EDMAC_BIG_ENDIAN
Commit  71557a37ad ("[netdrvr] sh_eth: Add SH7619 support") added support
for the big-endian EDMAC descriptors. However, it was never used and never
worked right until the recent driver  fixes. I think we now  can just remove
this support,  it was only burdening the driver from the start. It should be
easy to do without disturbing the SH platform code, at least for now...

Sergei Shtylyov 5cbf20c747 sh_eth: fix 16-bit descriptor field access endianness too
Commit 1299653aff ("sh_eth: fix descriptor access endianness") only
addressed the 32-bit buffer address field byte-swapping  but the driver
still accesses 16-bit frame/buffer length descriptor fields without the
necessary byte-swapping -- which should affect the big-endian kernels.
In order to be able to use {cpu|edmac}_to_{edmac|cpu}(), we need to declare
the RX/TX descriptor word 1 as a 32-bit field and use shifts/masking to
access the 16-bit subfields (which gets rid of the ugly #ifdef'ery too)...

Sergei Shtylyov 1299653aff sh_eth: fix descriptor access endianness
The driver never  calls cpu_to_edmac() when writing the descriptor address
and edmac_to_cpu() when reading it, although it should -- fix this.

Note that the frame/buffer length descriptor field accesses also need fixing
but since they are both 16-bit we can't  use {cpu|edmac}_to_{edmac|cpu}()...

Sergei Shtylyov 2274d3753f sh_eth: uninline sh_eth_{write|read}()
Commit 3365711df0 ("sh_eth: WARN on access to a register not implemented in
in  a particular chip") added WARN_ON() to sh_eth_{read|write}(), thus making
it  unacceptable for these functions to be *inline* anymore. Remove *inline*
and move the functions from the header to the driver itself. Below   is our
code economy with ARM gcc 4.7.3:

Sergei Shtylyov 37742f028b sh_eth: read MAC address registers only once
The code reading the MAHR/MALR registers in read_mac_address() is terribly
ineffective -- it reads MAHR 4 times and MALR 2 times, while it's enough to
read each register only once.  Use the local variables to achieve that,
somewhat beautifying the code while at it...

Since commit 3d7608e4c1 ("ARM: shmobile: bockw: remove legacy
board file and config"), R-Car Gen1 SoCs are only supported in generic
DT-only ARM multi-platform builds.  The driver doesn't need to match
platform devices by name anymore, hence remove the corresponding
platform_device_id entry.

Protect sh_eth_set_rate_r8a777x() and r8a777x_data by #ifdef CONFIG_OF,
as they're now referenced on DT platforms only.

ARM multi-platform builds.  The driver doesn't need to match platform
devices by name anymore, hence remove the corresponding
platform_device_id entry.

Protect r8a7740_data by #ifdef CONFIG_OF as it's now referenced on DT
platforms only. Move it to a more logical position, in front of the
r8a777x support, so we can have a single #ifdef covering all r7s* and
r8a* support soon. This requires moving a few helper functions, too.

Sergei Shtylyov 8e03a5e75c sh_eth: merge sh_eth_free_dma_buffer() into sh_eth_ring_free()
While the ring allocation is done by a single function, sh_eth_ring_init(),
the ring deallocation was split into two functions (almost always called
one after the other) for no good reason. Merge  sh_eth_free_dma_buffer()
into sh_eth_ring_free() which allows us  to save space not only on the
direct calls  of the former function but also on the sh_eth_ring_init()'s
simplified error path...

The correct name of the RX descriptor 0 bit 30 is RDLE (receive descriptor
list end),  not  RDEL.

This is because the code jumps to a wrong label and so tries to free yet
unallocated coherent memory.  Fix the *goto* in question.

Sergei Shtylyov 2c94e8567d sh_eth: fix uninitialized arrays in sh_eth_ring_init()
sh_eth_ring_free()  called in the sh_eth_ring_init()'s error path expects
the arrays pointed  to  by 'sh_eth_private::[rt]x_skbuff' to be initialized
with NULLs but they are allocated with just kmalloc_array() and so are left
filled with random data. Use kcalloc() instead.

Both  Renesas R-Car and RZ/A1 manuals state that RX buffer  length must be
a multiple of 32 bytes, while the driver  only uses 16 byte granularity...

Sergei Shtylyov 7a468ac624 sh_eth: propagate platform_get_irq() error upstream
The driver overrides the error returned by platform_get_irq() with -ENODEV
which e.g. precludes the deferred  probing from working. Propagate the real
error code to the driver core instead.

Ben Hutchings 4398f9c817 sh_eth: Mitigate lost statistics updates
The statistics registers have write-clear behaviour, which means we
will lose any increment between the read and write.  Mitigate this by
only clearing when we read a non-zero value, so we will never falsely
report a total of zero.  This also saves time as we only handle
error statistics here and they won't often be incremented.
