There is a custom (non-USB IF) extension to the USB standard:
https://wicg.github.io/webusb/
This specification is published under the W3C Community Contributor
Agreement, which in particular allows to implement the specification
without any royalties.
The specification allows USB gadgets to announce an URL to landing
page and describes a Javascript interface for websites to interact
with the USB gadget, if the user allows it. It is currently
supported by Chromium-based browsers, such as Chrome, Edge and
Opera on all major operating systems including Linux.
This patch adds optional support for Linux-based USB gadgets
wishing to expose such a landing page.
During device enumeration, a host recognizes that the announced
USB version is at least 2.01, which means, that there are BOS
descriptors available. The device than announces WebUSB support
using a platform device capability. This includes a vendor code
under which the landing page URL can be retrieved using a
vendor-specific request.
Previously, the BOS descriptors would unconditionally include an
LPM related descriptor, as BOS descriptors were only ever sent
when the device was LPM capable. As this is no longer the case,
this patch puts this descriptor behind a lpm_capable condition.
Usage is modeled after os_desc descriptors:
echo 1 > webusb/use
echo "https://www.kernel.org" > webusb/landingPage
lsusb will report the device with the following lines:

In the specification documents for the Uncompressed and MJPEG USB
Video Payloads, the field name is bmInterlaceFlags - it has been
misnamed within the kernel.
Although renaming the field does break the kernel's interface to
userspace it should be low-risk in this instance. The field is read
only and hardcoded to 0, so there was never any value in anyone
reading it. A search of the uvc-gadget application and all the
forks that I could find for it did not reveal any users either.

For the userspace it is needed to distinguish between requests for the
control or streaming interface. The userspace would have to parse the
configfs to know which interface index it has to compare the ctrl
requests against. Since the interface numbers are not fixed, e.g. for
composite gadgets, the interface offset depends on the setup.
The kernel has this information when handing over the ctrl request to
the userspace. This patch removes the offset from the interface numbers
and expose the default interface defines in the uapi g_uvc.h.

There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare
having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure.
Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these
cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should
no longer be used[2].
This code was transformed with the help of Coccinelle:
(linux-5.19-rc2$ spatch --jobs $(getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN) --sp-file script.cocci --include-headers --dir . > output.patch)
@@
identifier S, member, array;
type T1, T2;
@@
struct S {
...
T1 member;
T2 array[
- 0
];
};
-fstrict-flex-arrays=3 is coming and we need to land these changes
to prevent issues like these in the short future:
../fs/minix/dir.c:337:3: warning: 'strcpy' will always overflow; destination buffer has size 0,
but the source string has length 2 (including NUL byte) [-Wfortify-source]
strcpy(de3->name, ".");
^
Since these are all [0] to [] changes, the risk to UAPI is nearly zero. If
this breaks anything, we can use a union with a new member name.

This new ioctl only returns the status byte (STB) that was originally
sent by the device due to a service request (SRQ) condition.
This ioctl checks the srq_asserted bit of the associated file

STB with original SRQ information is returned. Otherwise the ioctl
returns the error code ENOMSG.
This ioctl is useful to support non USBTMC-488 compliant devices.

Raw Gadget is currently unable to stall/halt/wedge gadget endpoints,
which is required for proper emulation of certain USB classes.
This patch adds a few more ioctls:
- USB_RAW_IOCTL_EP0_STALL allows to stall control endpoint #0 when
there's a pending setup request for it.
- USB_RAW_IOCTL_SET/CLEAR_HALT/WEDGE allow to set/clear halt/wedge status
on non-control non-isochronous endpoints.

Currently automatic gadget endpoint selection based on required features
doesn't work. Raw Gadget tries iterating over the list of available
endpoints and finding one that has the right direction and transfer type.
Unfortunately selecting arbitrary gadget endpoints (even if they satisfy
feature requirements) doesn't work, as (depending on the UDC driver) they
might have fixed addresses, and one also needs to provide matching
endpoint addresses in the descriptors sent to the host.
The composite framework deals with this by assigning endpoint addresses
in usb_ep_autoconfig() before enumeration starts. This approach won't work
with Raw Gadget as the endpoints are supposed to be enabled after a
set_configuration/set_interface request from the host, so it's too late to
patch the endpoint descriptors that had already been sent to the host.
For Raw Gadget we take another approach. Similarly to GadgetFS, we allow
the user to make the decision as to which gadget endpoints to use.
This patch adds another Raw Gadget ioctl USB_RAW_IOCTL_EPS_INFO that
exposes information about all non-control endpoints that a currently
connected UDC has. This information includes endpoints addresses, as well
as their capabilities and limits to allow the user to choose the most
fitting gadget endpoint.
The USB_RAW_IOCTL_EP_ENABLE ioctl is updated to use the proper endpoint
validation routine usb_gadget_ep_match_desc().
These changes affect the portability of the gadgets that use Raw Gadget
when running on different UDCs. Nevertheless, as long as the user relies
on the information provided by USB_RAW_IOCTL_EPS_INFO to dynamically
choose endpoint addresses, UDC-agnostic gadgets can still be written with
Raw Gadget.

USB Raw Gadget is a kernel module that provides a userspace interface for
the USB Gadget subsystem. Essentially it allows to emulate USB devices
from userspace. Enabled with CONFIG_USB_RAW_GADGET. Raw Gadget is
currently a strictly debugging feature and shouldn't be used in
production.
Raw Gadget is similar to GadgetFS, but provides a more low-level and
direct access to the USB Gadget layer for the userspace. The key
differences are:
1. Every USB request is passed to the userspace to get a response, while
GadgetFS responds to some USB requests internally based on the provided
descriptors. However note, that the UDC driver might respond to some
requests on its own and never forward them to the Gadget layer.
2. GadgetFS performs some sanity checks on the provided USB descriptors,
while Raw Gadget allows you to provide arbitrary data as responses to
USB requests.
3. Raw Gadget provides a way to select a UDC device/driver to bind to,
while GadgetFS currently binds to the first available UDC.
4. Raw Gadget uses predictable endpoint names (handles) across different
UDCs (as long as UDCs have enough endpoints of each required transfer
type).
5. Raw Gadget has ioctl-based interface instead of a filesystem-based one.

Extension Unit (XU) is used to have a compatible layout with

for parsing the descriptors. Meanwhile, on UAC2, XU became slightly
incompatible with PU; namely, XU has a one-byte bmControls bitmap
while PU has two bytes bmControls bitmap. This incompatibility
results in the read of a wrong address for the last iExtension field,
which ended up with an incorrect string for the mixer element name, as
recently reported for Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 device.
This patch corrects this misalignment by introducing a couple of new
macros and calling them depending on the descriptor type.

peripheral. The largest changes go to the UVC gadget driver which a
few folks have been improving.
Apart from UVC changes, we have a few more devices being added to
Renesas USB3 and DWC3 controller drivers and a couple minor bug fixes
on other drivers.

Add ioctl USBTMC_IOCTL_API_VERSION to get current API version
of usbtmc driver.
This is to allow an instrument library to determine whether
the driver API is compatible with the implementation.
The API may change in future versions. Therefore the macro
USBTMC_API_VERSION should be incremented when changing tmc.h
with new flags, ioctls or when changing a significant behavior
of the driver.

add ioctl USBTMC_IOCTL_MSG_IN_ATTR that returns the specific
bmTransferAttributes field of the last DEV_DEP_MSG_IN Bulk-IN
header. This header is received by the read() function. The
meaning of the (u8) bitmap bmTransferAttributes is:
Bit 0 = EOM flag is set when the last transfer of a USBTMC
message is received.
Bit 1 = is set when the last byte is a termchar (e.g. '\n').
Note that this bit is always zero when the device does not support

The USBTMC_IOCTL_READ call provides for generic synchronous and
asynchronous reads on bulk IN to implement vendor specific library
routines.
Depending on transfer_size the function submits one or more urbs (up
to 16) each with a size of up to 4kB.
The flag USBTMC_FLAG_IGNORE_TRAILER can be used when the transmission
size is already known. Then the function does not truncate the
transfer_size to a multiple of 4 kB, but does reserve extra space
to receive the final short or zero length packet. Note that the
instrument is allowed to send up to wMaxPacketSize - 1 bytes at the
end of a message to avoid sending a zero length packet.
With flag USBTMC_FLAG_ASYNC the ioctl is non blocking. When no
received data is available, the read function submits as many urbs as
needed to receive transfer_size bytes. However the number of flying
urbs (=4kB) is limited to 16 even with subsequent calls of this ioctl.
Returns -EAGAIN when non blocking and no data is received.
Signals EPOLLIN | EPOLLRDNORM when asynchronous urbs are ready to
be read.
In non blocking mode the usbtmc_message.message pointer may be NULL
and the ioctl just submits urbs to initiate receiving data. However if
data is already available due to a previous non blocking call the ioctl
will return -EINVAL when the message pointer is NULL.
This ioctl does not support compatibility for 32 bit
applications running on 64 bit systems. However all other
convenient ioctls of the USBTMC driver can still be used in 32
bit applications as well. Note that 32 bit applications running
on 32 bit target systems are not affected by this limitation.

Different operations on an instrument can take different lengths of

longer than the expected duration of each operation to optimise the
responsiveness of the application. As the instrument may be shared by
multiple applications the timeout should be settable on a per file

This patch adds support for the Processig Units defined in
the UAC3 spec. The main difference with the previous specs
is the lack of on/off switches in the controls for these
units and the addiction of the new Multi Function Processing

The current version of the UAC3 spec doesn't define any
useful controls for the new Multi Function Processing Unit
so no control will get created once this unit is parsed.

This adds support for the MIXER UNIT in UAC3. All the information
is obtained from the (HIGH CAPABILITY) Cluster's header. We don't
read the rest of the logical cluster to obtain the channel config
as that wont make any difference in the current mixer behaviour.
The name of the mixer unit is not yet requested as there is not
support for the UAC3 Class Specific String requests.
Tested in an UAC3 device working as a HEADSET with a basic mixer
unit (same as the one in the BADD spec) with no controls.

USB 3.2 specification adds Dual-lane support, doubling the maximum
SuperSpeedPlus data rate from 10Gbps to 20Gbps.
Dual-lane takes into use a second set of rx and tx wires/pins in the
Type-C cable and connector.
Add "rx_lanes" and "tx_lanes" variables to struct usb_device to store
the numer of lanes in use. Number of lanes can be read using the extended
port status hub request that was introduced in USB 3.1.
Extended port status rx and tx lane count are zero based, maximum
lanes supported by non inter-chip (SSIC) USB 3.2 is 2 (dual lane) with
rx and tx lane count symmetric. SSIC devices support asymmetric lanes
up to 4 lanes per direction.
If extended port status is not available then default to one lane.
