BD71828GW is a single-chip power management IC for battery-powered portable
devices. The IC integrates 7 buck converters, 7 LDOs, and a 1500 mA
single-cell linear charger. Also included is a Coulomb counter, a real-time
clock (RTC), 3 GPO/regulator control pins, HALL input and a 32.768 kHz
clock gate.
Add MFD core driver providing interrupt controller facilities and i2c
access to sub device drivers.

ROHM BD71850 PMIC is almost identical to BD71847. Main difference is some
initial voltage values for regulators. The BD71850 can be handled by
BD71847 driver but adding own compatible makes it clearer for one who
creates the DT for board containing this PMIC and allows SW to be
differentiating PMICs if needed.

Thanks to Stephen Boyd I today learned we can use platform_device_id
to do device and module matching for MFD sub-devices!
Do device matching using the platform_device_id instead of using
explicit module_aliases to load modules and custom parent-data field
to do module loading and sub-device matching.

SGI IOC3 chip has integrated ethernet, keyboard and mouse interface.
It also supports connecting a SuperIO chip for serial and parallel
interfaces. IOC3 is used inside various SGI systemboards and add-on
cards with different equipped external interfaces.
Support for ethernet and serial interfaces were implemented inside
the network driver. This patchset moves out the not network related
parts to a new MFD driver, which takes care of card detection,
setup of platform devices and interrupt distribution for the subdevices.

This header file now only includes the cros_ec_dev struct, however, is the
'include/linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h' who contains the definition of
all the Chrome OS EC related structs. There is no reason to have a
separate include for this struct so move to the place where other
structs are defined. That way, we can remove the include itself, but also
simplify the common pattern

For HLCDC timing engine configurations bit ATMEL_HLCDC_SIP of
ATMEL_HLCDC_SR needs to be polled before applying new config. In case of
timeout there is no indicator about this, so, return in case of timeout
and also print a message about this.

Move the Crystal Cove PMIC panel GPIO lookup-table from
drivers/mfd/intel_soc_pmic_core.c to the i915 driver.
The moved looked-up table is adding a GPIO lookup to the i915 PCI
device and the GPIO subsys allows only one lookup table per device,
The intel_soc_pmic_core.c code only adds lookup-table entries for the
PMIC panel GPIO (as it deals only with the PMIC), but we also need to be
able to access some GPIOs on the SoC itself, which requires entries for
these GPIOs in the lookup-table.
Since the lookup-table is attached to the i915 PCI device it really
should be part of the i915 driver, this will also allow us to extend
it with GPIOs from other sources when necessary.

At least Bay Trail (BYT) and Cherry Trail (CHT) devices can use 1 of 2
different PWM controllers for controlling the LCD's backlight brightness.
Either the one integrated into the PMIC or the one integrated into the
SoC (the 1st LPSS PWM controller).
So far in the LPSS code on BYT we have skipped registering the LPSS PWM
controller "pwm_backlight" lookup entry when a Crystal Cove PMIC is
present, assuming that in this case the PMIC PWM controller will be used.
On CHT we have been relying on only 1 of the 2 PWM controllers being
enabled in the DSDT at the same time; and always registered the lookup.
So far this has been working, but the correct way to determine which PWM
controller needs to be used is by checking a bit in the VBT table and
recently I've learned about 2 different BYT devices:
Point of View MOBII TAB-P800W
Acer Switch 10 SW5-012
Which use a Crystal Cove PMIC, yet the LCD is connected to the SoC/LPSS
PWM controller (and the VBT correctly indicates this), so here our old
heuristics fail.
Since only the i915 driver has access to the VBT, this commit renames
the "pwm_backlight" lookup entries for the Crystal Cove PMIC's PWM
controller to "pwm_pmic_backlight" so that the i915 driver can do a
pwm_get() for the right controller depending on the VBT bit, instead of
the i915 driver relying on a "pwm_backlight" lookup getting registered
which magically points to the right controller.

20191018, add support for EFI specific purpose memory, update the ACPI
EC driver to make it work on systems with hardware-reduced ACPI,
improve ACPI-based device enumeration for some platforms, rework the
lid blacklist handling in the button driver and add more lid quirks to
it, unify ACPI _HID/_UID matching, fix assorted issues and clean up

Add a new function to return the number of MEMS sensors available in a
ChromeOS Embedded Controller. It uses MOTIONSENSE_CMD_DUMP if available
or a specific memory map ACPI registers to find out.
Also, make check_features public as it can be useful for other drivers
to know what the Embedded Controller supports.

This driver currently requires platform data to specify the
operational mode and regulator init data (in case of regulator
mode).
Optionally specify the operational mode by looking at the name
of the devicetree child node.

It is possible that platform_get_resource() might return NULL and
therefore code needs to check for this condition before
de-referencing the pointer.
Therefore move the de-referencing of 'res' pointer after
devm_ioremap_resource() which would have checked the validity of the
pointer.

Until now, MFD has assumed all child devices passed to it (via
mfd_cells) are to be registered. It does not take into account
requests from Device Tree and the like to disable child devices
on a per-platform basis.

There is a distinct version of the Ux500 U8420 variant
with "sysclk", as can be seen from the vendor code that
didn't make it upstream, this firmware lacks the
ULPPLL (ultra-low power phase locked loop) which in
effect means that the timer clock is instead wired to
the 32768 Hz always-on clock.
This has some repercussions when enabling the timer
clock as the code as it stands will disable the timer
clock on these platforms (lacking the so-called
"doze mode") and obtaining the wrong rate of the timer
clock.
The timer frequency is of course needed very early in
the boot, and as a consequence, we need to shuffle
around the early PRCMU init code: whereas in the past
we did not need to look up the PRCMU firmware version
in the early init, but now we need to know the version
before the core system timers are registered so we
restructure the platform callbacks to the PRCMU so as
not to take any arguments and instead look up the
resources it needs directly from the device tree
when initializing.
As we do not yet support any platforms using this
firmware it is not a regression, but as PostmarketOS
is starting to support products with this firmware we
need to fix this up.
The low rate of 32kHz also makes the MTU timer unsuitable
as delay timer but this needs to be fixed in a separate
patch.

Most of the complexity of mfd_platform_add_cell() has been removed. The
only functionality left duplicates cell memory into the child's platform
device. Since it's only a few lines, moving it to the main thread and
removing the superfluous function makes sense.

The MFD implementation for reference counting was complex and unnecessary.
There was only one bona fide user which has now been converted to handle
the process in a different way. Any future resource protection, shared
enablement functions should be handed by the parent device, rather than
through the MFD subsystem API.

Providing a subsystem-level API helper seems over-kill just to save a
few lines of C-code. Previous commits saw us convert mfd_clone_cell()'s
only user over to use a more traditional style of MFD child-device
registration. Now we can remove the superfluous helper from the MFD API.

Prior to this patch, IO regions were requested via an MFD subsytem-level
.enable() call-back and similarly released by a .disable() call-back.
Double requests/releases were avoided by a centrally handled usage count
mechanism.
This complexity can all be avoided by handling IO regions only once during
.probe() and .remove() of the parent device. Since this is the only
legitimate user of the aforementioned usage count mechanism, this patch
will allow it to be removed from MFD core in subsequent steps.

The current implementation abuses the platform 'id' mfd_cell member
to index into the correct resources entry. Seeing as enough resource
slots are already available, let's just loop through all available
bars and allocate them to their appropriate slot, even if they happen
to be zero.

In most contexts '-1' doesn't really mean much to the casual observer.
In almost all cases, it's better to use a human readable define. In
this case PLATFORM_DEVID_* defines have already been provided for this
purpose.
While we're here, let's be specific about the 'MFD devices' which
failed. It will help when trying to distinguish which of the 2 sets
of sub-devices we actually failed to register.

Now that gpiolib recognizes wlf,reset legacy GPIO and will handle it
even if DTS uses it without -gpio[s] suffix, we can switch to more
standard devm_gpiod_get() and later remove devm_gpiod_get_from_of_node().
Note that we will lose "arizona /RESET" custom GPIO label, but since we
do not set such custom label when using the modern binding, I opted to
not having it here either.

regmap_add_irq_chip() will try to allocate all of the IRQ descriptors
upfront if passed a non-zero irq_base parameter. However, the intention
is to allocate IRQ descriptors on an as-needed basis if possible. Pass 0
instead of -1 to fix that use-case.

All other rk8xx operate with the polarity on low and even the old
submitted devicetree snippet for the px30-evb declared the irq as low.
So bring the rk817 preset in line with this, as there is really no
reason for it to be the only with with a high polarity.
The rk809/rk817 hasn't been added to any devicetrees so far, so this
won't break anything.

The pwrkey integration seems to stem from the vendor kernel, as the
compatible is wrong and also the order of key-irqs is swapped.
So fix these issues to make the pwrkey on rk817 actually work.

It turned out Intel Gemini Lake doesn't use the same I2C timing
parameters as Broxton.
I got confirmation from the Windows team that Gemini Lake systems should
use updated timing parameters that differ from those used in Broxton
based systems.

Some BIOS erroneously specifies write-combining BAR for intel-lpss-pci
in MTRR. This will cause the system to hang during boot. If possible,
this bug could be corrected with a firmware update.
This patch use devm_ioremap_uc to overwrite/ignore the MTRR settings
by forcing the use of strongly uncachable pages for intel-lpss.

Our current Crystal Cove OpRegion driver is only valid for the
Crystal Cove PMIC variant found on Bay Trail (BYT) boards,
Cherry Trail (CHT) based boards use another variant.
At least the regulator registers are different on CHT and these registers
are one of the things controlled by the custom PMIC OpRegion.
Commit 4d9ed62ab1 ("mfd: intel_soc_pmic: Export separate mfd-cell
configs for BYT and CHT") has disabled the intel_pmic_crc.c code for CHT
devices by removing the "crystal_cove_pmic" MFD cell on CHT devices.
This commit renames the intel_pmic_crc.c driver and the cell to be
prefixed with "byt" to indicate that this code is for BYT devices only.
This is a preparation patch for adding a separate PMIC OpRegion
driver for the CHT variant of the Crystal Cove PMIC (sometimes called
Crystal Cove Plus in Android kernel sources).

The AB8500 GPADC driver is indeed a "general purpose ADC" driver,
and while the IIO subsystem did not exist when the driver was
first merged, it is never too late to clean things up and move it
to the right place.
Nowadays IIO provides the right abstractions and interfaces to
do generic ADC work in the kernel.
We have to cut a bunch of debugfs luggage to make this transition
swift, but all these files to is read out the raw values of the
ADC and the IIO subsystem already has a standard sysfs ABI for
doing exactly this: no debugfs is needed.

At some point there was an attempt to convert the DB8500
thermal sensor to device tree: a probe path was added

appeared from the device tree.
Move over to a device-tree only approach, as we fixed up
the device trees.

Here is the big set of USB patches for 5.4-rc1.
Two major chunks of code are moving out of the tree and into the staging
directory, uwb and wusb (wireless USB support), because there are no
devices that actually use this protocol anymore, and what we have today
probably doesn't work at all given that the maintainers left many many
years ago. So move it to staging where it will be removed in a few
releases if no one screams.
Other than that, lots of little things. The usual gadget and xhci and
usb serial driver updates, along with a bunch of sysfs file cleanups due
to the driver core changes to support that. Nothing really major, just
constant forward progress.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
issues.

Here is the big driver core update for 5.4-rc1.
There was a bit of a churn in here, with a number of core and OF
platform patches being added to the tree, and then after much discussion
and review and a day-long in-person meeting, they were decided to be
reverted and a new set of patches is currently being reviewed on the
mailing list.
Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
always gets it wrong).
There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.
There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
issues.

Use mfd_add_hotplug_devices() helper to register the subdevices. The
helper allows us to reduce the boiler plate and also registers the
subdevices in the same way as used in other functions used in this
files.

The CrOS EC is gaining lots of subdevices that are autodetectable by
sending the EC_FEATURE_GET_CMD, it takes fair amount of boiler plate
code to add those devices. So, add a struct that can be used to quickly
add new subdevices without having to duplicate code.

With the increasing use of dedicated CrOS EC MCUs, it takes a fair amount
of boiler plate code to add those devices, add a struct that can be used
to specify a dedicated CrOS EC MCU so we can just add a new item to it to
define a new dedicated MCU.

There is a bit of mess between cros-ec mfd includes and platform
includes. For example, we have a linux/mfd/cros_ec.h include that
exports the interface implemented in platform/chrome/cros_ec_proto.c. Or
we have a linux/mfd/cros_ec_commands.h file that is non related to the
multifunction device (in the sense that is not exporting any function of
the mfd device). This causes crossed includes between mfd and
platform/chrome subsystems and makes the code difficult to read, apart
from creating 'curious' situations where a platform/chrome driver includes
a linux/mfd/cros_ec.h file just to get the exported functions that are
implemented in another platform/chrome driver.
In order to have a better separation on what the cros-ec multifunction
driver does and what the cros-ec core provides move and rework the
affected includes doing:
- Move cros_ec_commands.h to include/linux/platform_data/cros_ec_commands.h
- Get rid of the parts that are implemented in the platform/chrome/cros_ec_proto.c
driver from include/linux/mfd/cros_ec.h to a new file
include/linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h
- Update all the drivers with the new includes, so
- Drivers that only need to know about the protocol include
- linux/platform_data/cros_ec_proto.h
- linux/platform_data/cros_ec_commands.h
- Drivers that need to know about the cros-ec mfd device also include
- linux/mfd/cros_ec.h

The cros-ec-dev is a multifunction device that now doesn't implement any
chardev communication interface. MFD_CROS_EC_CHARDEV doesn't look
a good name to describe that device and can cause confusion. Hence
rename it to CROS_EC_DEV.

With the purpose of remove the things that far extends the bounds of
what a MFD was designed to do, instantiate the new platform misc
cros-ec-chardev driver and get rid of all the unneeded code. After this
patch the misc chardev driver is a sub-device of the MFD, and all the
new file operations should be implemented there.

That's a driver to talk with the ChromeOS Embedded Controller via a
miscellaneous character device, it creates an entry in /dev for every
instance and implements basic file operations for communicating with the
Embedded Controller with an userspace application. The API is moved to
the uapi folder, which is supposed to contain the user space API of the
kernel.
Note that this will replace current character device interface
implemented in the cros-ec-dev driver in the MFD subsystem. The idea is
to move all the functionality that extends the bounds of what MFD was
designed to platform/chrome subsystem.

An MFD is a device that contains several sub-devices (cells). For instance,
the ChromeOS EC fits in this description as usually contains a charger and
can have other devices with different functions like a Real-Time Clock,
an Audio codec, a Real-Time Clock, ...
If you look at the driver, though, we're doing something odd. We have
two MFD cros-ec drivers where one of them (cros-ec-core) instantiates
another MFD driver as sub-driver (cros-ec-dev), and the latest
instantiates the different sub-devices (Real-Time Clock, Audio codec,
etc).

The problem that was trying to solve is to describe some kind of topology for
the case where we have an EC (cros-ec) chained with another EC
(cros-pd). Apart from that this extends the bounds of what MFD was
designed to do we might be interested on have other kinds of topology that
can't be implemented in that way.
Let's prepare the code to move the cros-ec-core part from MFD to
platform/chrome as this is clearly a platform specific thing non-related
to a MFD device.

The DB8520 used in a lot of Samsung phones has a slightly higher
maximum ARMSS frequency than the DB8500. In order to not confuse
the OPP framework and cpufreq, make sure the PRCMU driver
returns the correct frequency.

when user space tools has that feature for ages.

This driver creates a gpio chip so it needs to include the
appropriate header <linux/gpio/driver.h> explicitly rather
than implicitly.

Add an MFD driver for Intel Merrifield Basin Cove PMIC.
Firmware on the platforms which are using Basin Cove PMIC is "smarter"
than on the rest supported by vanilla kernel. It handles first level
of interrupt itself, while others do it on OS level.
The driver is done in the same way as the rest of Intel PMIC MFD drivers
in the kernel to support the initial design. The design allows to use
one driver among few PMICs without knowing implementation details of
the each hardware version or generation.

As mutex_lock might sleep. Function pcap_adc_irq is an interrupt handler.
The use of mutex_lock in pcap_adc_irq may cause sleep in IRQ context.
Replace mutex_lock with spin_lock to avoid this.

We don't need dev_err() messages when platform_get_irq() fails now that
platform_get_irq() prints an error message itself when something goes
wrong. Let's remove these prints with a simple semantic patch.

Goodix touchpad may drop its first couple input events when
i2c-designware-platdrv and intel-lpss it connects to took too long to
runtime resume from runtime suspended state.
This issue happens becuase the touchpad has a rather small buffer to
store up to 13 input events, so if the host doesn't read those events in
time (i.e. runtime resume takes too long), events are dropped from the
touchpad's buffer.
The bottleneck is D3cold delay it waits when transitioning from D3cold
to D0, hence remove the delay to make the resume faster. I've tested
some systems with intel-lpss and haven't seen any regression.
