Currently, if the loop device receives a WRITE_ZEROES request, it asks
the underlying filesystem to punch out the range. This behavior is
correct if unmapping is allowed. However, a NOUNMAP request means that
the caller doesn't want us to free the storage backing the range, so
punching out the range is incorrect behavior.
To satisfy a NOUNMAP | WRITE_ZEROES request, loop should ask the
underlying filesystem to FALLOC_FL_ZERO_RANGE, which is (according to
the fallocate documentation) required to ensure that the entire range is
backed by real storage, which suffices for our purposes.

nbd requires socket families to support the shutdown method so the nbd
recv workqueue can be woken up from its sock_recvmsg call. If the socket
does not support the callout we will leave recv works running or get hangs
later when the device or module is removed.
This adds a check during socket connection/reconnection to make sure the
socket being passed in supports the needed callout.

This was preceded by us timing out everything and shutting down the
sockets for the device. The problem is we had a request in the queue at
the same time, so we completed the request twice. This can actually
happen in a lot of cases, we fail to get a ref on our config, we only
have one connection and just error out the command, etc.
Fix this by checking cmd->status in nbd_read_stat. We only change this
under the cmd->lock, so we are safe to check this here and see if we've
already error'ed this command out, which would indicate that we've
completed it as well.

We already do this for the most part, except in timeout and clear_req.
For the timeout case we take the lock after we grab a ref on the config,
but that isn't really necessary because we're safe to touch the cmd at
this point, so just move the order around.
For the clear_req cause this is initiated by the user, so again is safe.

pkt_ioctl() implements the generic SCSI_IOCTL_SEND_COMMAND
and some cdrom ioctls by forwarding to the underlying block
device. For compat_ioctl handling, this always takes a
roundtrip through fs/compat_ioctl.c that we should try
to avoid, at least for the compatible commands.
CDROM_SEND_PACKET is an exception here, it requires special
translation in compat_blkdev_driver_ioctl().
CDROM_LAST_WRITTEN has no compat handling at the moment.

There is a warning message in my test with below steps:
# rbd bench --io-type write --io-size 4K --io-threads 1 --io-pattern rand test &
# sleep 5
# pkill -9 rbd
# rbd map test &
# sleep 5
# pkill rbd
The reason is that the rbd_add_acquire_lock() is interruptable,
that means, when we kill the waiting on ->acquire_wait, the lock_dwork
could be still running.
1. do_rbd_add() 2. lock_dwork
rbd_add_acquire_lock()
- queue_delayed_work()
lock_dwork queued
- wait_for_completion_killable_timeout() <-- kill happen
rbd_dev_image_unlock() <-- UNLOCKED now, nothing to do.
rbd_dev_device_release()
rbd_dev_image_release()
- ...
lock successed here
- cancel_delayed_work_sync(&rbd_dev->lock_dwork)
Then when we reach the rbd_dev_free(), WARN_ON is triggered because
lock_state is not RBD_LOCK_STATE_UNLOCKED.
To fix it, this commit make sure the lock_dwork was finished before
calling rbd_dev_image_unlock().
On the other hand, this would not happend in do_rbd_remove(), because
after rbd mapped, lock_dwork will only be queued for IO request, and
request will continue unless lock_dwork finished. when we call
rbd_dev_image_unlock() in do_rbd_remove(), all requests are done.
That means, lock_state should not be locked again after
rbd_dev_image_unlock().

interrupted. ]

nbd: add multi-connection support
that limited the number of devices to 256. Before the patch we could
create 1000s of devices, but the patch switched us from using our
own thread to using a work queue which has a default limit of 256
active works.
The problem is that our recv_work function sits in a loop until
disconnection but only handles IO for one connection. The work is
started when the connection is started/restarted, but if we end up
creating 257 or more connections, the queue_work call just queues
connection257+'s recv_work and that waits for connection 1 - 256's
recv_work to be disconnected and that work instance completing.
Instead of reverting back to kthreads, this has us allocate a
workqueue_struct per device, so we can block in the work.

nbd: allow block mq to deal with timeouts
where before the patch userspace would set the timeout to 0 to disable
it. With the above patch, a zero timeout tells the block layer to use
the default value of 30 seconds. For setups where commands can take a
long time or experience transient issues like network disruptions this
then results in IO errors being sent to the application.
To fix this, the patch still uses the common block layer timeout
framework, but if zero is set, nbd just logs a message and then resets
the timer when it expires.

Pull kernel thread signal handling fix from Eric Biederman:
"I overlooked the fact that kernel threads are created with all signals
set to SIG_IGN, and accidentally caused a regression in cifs and drbd
when replacing force_sig with send_sig.
This is my fix for that regression. I add a new function
allow_kernel_signal which allows kernel threads to receive signals
sent from the kernel, but continues to ignore all signals sent from
userspace. This ensures the user space interface for cifs and drbd
remain the same.
These kernel threads depend on blocking networking calls which block
until something is received or a signal is pending. Making receiving
of signals somewhat necessary for these kernel threads.
Perhaps someday we can cleanup those interfaces and remove
allow_kernel_signal. If not allow_kernel_signal is pretty trivial and
clearly documents what is going on so I don't think we will mind
carrying it"
* 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace:
signal: Allow cifs and drbd to receive their terminating signals
My recent to change to only use force_sig for a synchronous events
wound up breaking signal reception cifs and drbd. I had overlooked
the fact that by default kthreads start out with all signals set to
SIG_IGN. So a change I thought was safe turned out to have made it
impossible for those kernel thread to catch their signals.
Reverting the work on force_sig is a bad idea because what the code
was doing was very much a misuse of force_sig. As the way force_sig
ultimately allowed the signal to happen was to change the signal
handler to SIG_DFL. Which after the first signal will allow userspace
to send signals to these kernel threads. At least for
wake_ack_receiver in drbd that does not appear actively wrong.
So correct this problem by adding allow_kernel_signal that will allow
signals whose siginfo reports they were sent by the kernel through,
but will not allow userspace generated signals, and update cifs and
drbd to call allow_kernel_signal in an appropriate place so that their
thread can receive this signal.
Fixing things this way ensures that userspace won't be able to send
signals and cause problems, that it is clear which signals the
threads are expecting to receive, and it guarantees that nothing
else in the system will be affected.
This change was partly inspired by similar cifs and drbd patches that
added allow_signal.

Commit 33ec3e53e7 ("loop: Don't change loop device under exclusive
opener") made LOOP_SET_FD ioctl acquire exclusive block device reference
while it updates loop device binding. However this can make perfectly
valid mount(2) fail with EBUSY due to racing LOOP_SET_FD holding
temporarily the exclusive bdev reference in cases like this:
for i in {a..z}{a..z}; do
dd if=/dev/zero of=$i.image bs=1k count=0 seek=1024
mkfs.ext2 $i.image
mkdir mnt$i
done
echo "Run"
for i in {a..z}{a..z}; do
mount -o loop -t ext2 $i.image mnt$i &
done
Fix the problem by not getting full exclusive bdev reference in
LOOP_SET_FD but instead just mark the bdev as being claimed while we
update the binding information. This just blocks new exclusive openers
instead of failing them with EBUSY thus fixing the problem.

Merge floppy ioctl verification fixes from Denis Efremov.
This also marks the floppy driver as orphaned - it turns out that Jiri
no longer has working hardware.
Actual working physical floppy hardware is getting hard to find, and
while Willy was able to test this, I think the driver can be considered
pretty much dead from an actual hardware standpoint. The hardware that
is still sold seems to be mainly USB-based, which doesn't use this
legacy driver at all.
The old floppy disk controller is still emulated in various VM
environments, so the driver isn't going away, but let's see if anybody
is interested to step up to maintain it.
The lack of hardware also likely means that the ioctl range verification
fixes are probably mostly relevant to anybody using floppies in a
virtual environment. Which is probably also going away in favor of USB
storage emulation, but who knows.
Will Decon reviewed the patches but I'm not rebasing them just for that,
so I'll add a

MAINTAINERS: mark floppy.c orphaned
floppy: fix out-of-bounds read in copy_buffer
floppy: fix invalid pointer dereference in drive_name
floppy: fix out-of-bounds read in next_valid_format
floppy: fix div-by-zero in setup_format_params
This fixes a global out-of-bounds read access in the copy_buffer
function of the floppy driver.
The FDDEFPRM ioctl allows one to set the geometry of a disk. The sect
and head fields (unsigned int) of the floppy_drive structure are used to
compute the max_sector (int) in the make_raw_rw_request function. It is
possible to overflow the max_sector. Next, max_sector is passed to the
copy_buffer function and used in one of the memcpy calls.
An unprivileged user could trigger the bug if the device is accessible,
but requires a floppy disk to be inserted.
The patch adds the check for the .sect * .head multiplication for not
overflowing in the set_geometry function.
The bug was found by syzkaller.

This fixes the invalid pointer dereference in the drive_name function of
the floppy driver.
The native_format field of the struct floppy_drive_params is used as
floppy_type array index in the drive_name function. Thus, the field
should be checked the same way as the autodetect field.
To trigger the bug, one could use a value out of range and set the drive
parameters with the FDSETDRVPRM ioctl. Next, FDGETDRVTYP ioctl should
be used to call the drive_name. A floppy disk is not required to be
inserted.
CAP_SYS_ADMIN is required to call FDSETDRVPRM.
The patch adds the check for a value of the native_format field to be in
the '0 <= x < ARRAY_SIZE(floppy_type)' range of the floppy_type array
indices.

This fixes a global out-of-bounds read access in the next_valid_format
function of the floppy driver.
The values from autodetect field of the struct floppy_drive_params are
used as indices for the floppy_type array in the next_valid_format
function 'floppy_type[DP->autodetect[probed_format]].sect'.
To trigger the bug, one could use a value out of range and set the drive

be inserted.
CAP_SYS_ADMIN is required to call FDSETDRVPRM.

This fixes a divide by zero error in the setup_format_params function of
the floppy driver.
Two consecutive ioctls can trigger the bug: The first one should set the
drive geometry with such .sect and .rate values for the F_SECT_PER_TRACK
to become zero. Next, the floppy format operation should be called.
A floppy disk is not required to be inserted. An unprivileged user
could trigger the bug if the device is accessible.
The patch checks F_SECT_PER_TRACK for a non-zero value in the
set_geometry function. The proper check should involve a reasonable
upper limit for the .sect and .rate fields, but it could change the
UAPI.
The patch also checks F_SECT_PER_TRACK in the setup_format_params, and
cancels the formatting operation in case of zero.
The bug was found by syzkaller.

Pull force_sig() argument change from Eric Biederman:
"A source of error over the years has been that force_sig has taken a
task parameter when it is only safe to use force_sig with the current
task.
The force_sig function is built for delivering synchronous signals
such as SIGSEGV where the userspace application caused a synchronous
fault (such as a page fault) and the kernel responded with a signal.
Because the name force_sig does not make this clear, and because the
force_sig takes a task parameter the function force_sig has been
abused for sending other kinds of signals over the years. Slowly those
have been fixed when the oopses have been tracked down.
This set of changes fixes the remaining abusers of force_sig and
carefully rips out the task parameter from force_sig and friends
making this kind of error almost impossible in the future"

rbd_wait_state_locked() is built around rbd_dev->lock_waitq and blocks
rbd worker threads while waiting for the lock, potentially impacting
other rbd devices. There is no good way to pass an error code into
image request state machines when acquisition fails, hence the use of
RBD_DEV_FLAG_BLACKLISTED for everything and various other issues.
Introduce rbd_dev->acquiring_list and move acquisition into image
request state machine. Use rbd_img_schedule() for kicking and passing
error codes. No blocking occurs while waiting for the lock, but
rbd_dev->lock_rwsem is still held across lock, unlock and set_cookie
calls.
Always acquire the lock on "rbd map" to avoid associating the latency
of acquiring the lock with the first I/O request.
A slight regression is that lock_timeout is now respected only if lock
acquisition is triggered by "rbd map" and not by I/O. This is somewhat
compensated by the fact that we no longer block if the peer refuses to
release lock -- I/O is failed with EROFS right away.

Syncing OSD requests doesn't really work. A single image request may
be comprised of multiple object requests, each of which can go through
a series of OSD requests (original, copyups, etc). On top of that, the
OSD cliest may be shared with other rbd devices.
What we want is to ensure that all in-flight image requests complete.
Introduce rbd_dev->running_list and block in RBD_LOCK_STATE_RELEASING
until that happens. New OSD requests may be started during this time.
Note that __rbd_img_handle_request() acquires rbd_dev->lock_rwsem only
if need_exclusive_lock() returns true. This avoids a deadlock similar
to the one outlined in the previous commit between unlock and I/O that
doesn't require lock, such as a read with object-map feature disabled.

If rbd_dev->lock_rwsem is needed for I/O completion, set_cookie can

clang warns about unusual code in floppy.c that looks like it
was intended to be a bit mask operation, checking for a specific
bit in the UDP->cmos variable (FLOPPY1_TYPE expands to '4' on

drivers/block/floppy.c:3902:17: error: use of logical '&&' with constant operand [-Werror,-Wconstant-logical-operand]
if (!UDP->cmos && FLOPPY1_TYPE)
^ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
drivers/block/floppy.c:3902:17: note: use '&' for a bitwise operation
if (!UDP->cmos && FLOPPY1_TYPE)
The check here is redundant anyway, if FLOPPY1_TYPE is zero, then
assigning it to a zero UDP->cmos field does not change anything,
so removing the extra check here has no effect other than shutting
up the warning.
On x86, this will no longer read a hardware register, as the
FLOPPY1_TYPE macro is not expanded if UDP->cmos is already
zero, but the result is the same.

The null_zone_report() function is a block_device operation callback

Here is the detailed scenario:-
1. modprobe null_blk

dev->zoned = 0
null_add_dev
dev->zoned == 0
so we don't set the q->limits.zoned = BLK_ZONED_HR

the 700+ different ways people tried to write the license text. All of

The drbd module exclusively sends signals to kernel threads it creates with
kthread_create. These kernel threads do not block or ignore signals (only
flush signals after they have been delivered), nor can drbd threads
possibly be pid namespace init processes so the extra work that force_sig
performs that send_sig does not is unnecessary.
Further force_sig is for delivering synchronous signals (aka exceptions).
The locking in force_sig is not prepared to deal with running processes, as
tsk->sighand may change during exec for a running process.
In short it is not only unnecessary for drbd to use force_sig it is
semantically wrong.
With drbd using send_sig it becomes easier to maintain force_sig as only
synchronous signals need to be considered.

Loop module allows calling LOOP_SET_FD while there are other openers of
the loop device. Even exclusive ones. This can lead to weird
consequences such as kernel deadlocks like:
mount_bdev() lo_ioctl()
udf_fill_super()
udf_load_vrs()
sb_set_blocksize() - sets desired block size B
udf_tread()
sb_bread()
__bread_gfp(bdev, block, B)
loop_set_fd()
set_blocksize()
- now __getblk_slow() indefinitely loops because B != bdev
block size
Fix the problem by disallowing LOOP_SET_FD ioctl when there are
exclusive openers of a loop device.
[Deliberately chosen not to CC stable as a user with priviledges to
trigger this race has other means of taking the system down and this
has a potential of breaking some weird userspace setup]

Hi Linus,
This is my very first pull-request. I've been working full-time as
a kernel developer for more than two years now. During this time I've
been fixing bugs reported by Coverity all over the tree and, as part
of my work, I'm also contributing to the KSPP. My work in the kernel
community has been supervised by Greg KH and Kees Cook.
OK. So, after the quick introduction above, please, pull the following
patches that mark switch cases where we are expecting to fall through.
These patches are part of the ongoing efforts to enable -Wimplicit-fallthrough.
They have been ignored for a long time (most of them more than 3 months,
even after pinging multiple times), which is the reason why I've created
this tree. Most of them have been baking in linux-next for a whole development
cycle. And with Stephen Rothwell's help, we've had linux-next nag-emails
going out for newly introduced code that triggers -Wimplicit-fallthrough
to avoid gaining more of these cases while we work to remove the ones
that are already present.
I'm happy to let you know that we are getting close to completing this
work. Currently, there are only 32 of 2311 of these cases left to be
addressed in linux-next. I'm auditing every case; I take a look into
the code and analyze it in order to determine if I'm dealing with an
actual bug or a false positive, as explained here:
https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/c2fad584-1705-a5f2-d63c-824e9b96cf50@embeddedor.com/
While working on this, I've found and fixed the following missing
break/return bugs, some of them introduced more than 5 years ago:
84242b82d87850b51b6c5e420fe63509186e5034b5be8531817264235ee7cc5034a5d2479826cc865340f23df8df997abeeb2f10d82373307b00c5e65d25ff7a54a7ed5b3e7dc24bfa8f21ad0eaee6199ba8376ce1dc586a60a1a8e9b186f14e57562b4860747828eac5b974bee9cc44ba91162c930e3d0a
Once this work is finish, we'll be able to universally enable
"-Wimplicit-fallthrough" to avoid any of these kinds of bugs from
entering the kernel again.
Thanks

The check added in commit 721c7fc701 ("block: fail op_is_write()
requests to read-only partitions") was lifted in commit a32e236eb9
("Partially revert "block: fail op_is_write() requests to read-only
partitions""). Basic things like user triggered writes and discards
are still caught, but internal kernel users can submit anything. In
particular, ext4 will attempt to write to the superblock if it detects
errors in the filesystem, even if the filesystem is mounted read-only
on a read-only partition.
The assert is overkill regardless.

pull-request: bpf-next 2019-04-28
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Introduce BPF socket local storage map so that BPF programs can store
private data they associate with a socket (instead of e.g. separate hash
table), from Martin.
2) Add support for bpftool to dump BTF types. This is done through a new
`bpftool btf dump` sub-command, from Andrii.
3) Enable BPF-based flow dissector for skb-less eth_get_headlen() calls which
was currently not supported since skb was used to lookup netns, from Stanislav.
4) Add an opt-in interface for tracepoints to expose a writable context
for attached BPF programs, used here for NBD sockets, from Matt.
5) BPF xadd related arm64 JIT fixes and scalability improvements, from Daniel.
6) Change the skb->protocol for bpf_skb_adjust_room() helper in order to
support tunnels such as sit. Add selftests as well, from Willem.
7) Various smaller misc fixes.

Add options to strictly validate messages and dump messages,
sometimes perhaps validating dump messages non-strictly may
be required, so add an option for that as well.
Since none of this can really be applied to existing commands,
set the options everwhere using the following spatch:
@@
identifier ops;
expression X;
@@
struct genl_ops ops[] = {
...,
{
.cmd = X,
+ .validate = GENL_DONT_VALIDATE_STRICT | GENL_DONT_VALIDATE_DUMP,
...
},
...
};
For new commands one should just not copy the .validate 'opt-out'
flags and thus get strict validation.

Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
We currently have two levels of strict validation:
1) liberal (default)
- undefined (type >= max) & NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
- garbage at end of message accepted
2) strict (opt-in)
- NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted
- attribute length >= expected accepted
Split out parsing strictness into four different options:
* TRAILING - check that there's no trailing data after parsing
attributes (in message or nested)
* MAXTYPE - reject attrs > max known type
* UNSPEC - reject attributes with NLA_UNSPEC policy entries
* STRICT_ATTRS - strictly validate attribute size
The default for future things should be *everything*.
The current *_strict() is a combination of TRAILING and MAXTYPE,
and is renamed to _deprecated_strict().
The current regular parsing has none of this, and is renamed to
*_parse_deprecated().
Additionally it allows us to selectively set one of the new flags
even on old policies. Notably, the UNSPEC flag could be useful in
this case, since it can be arranged (by filling in the policy) to
not be an incompatible userspace ABI change, but would then going
forward prevent forgetting attribute entries. Similar can apply
to the POLICY flag.
We end up with the following renames:
* nla_parse -> nla_parse_deprecated
* nla_parse_strict -> nla_parse_deprecated_strict
* nlmsg_parse -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated
* nlmsg_parse_strict -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated_strict
* nla_parse_nested -> nla_parse_nested_deprecated
* nla_validate_nested -> nla_validate_nested_deprecated

For this patch, don't actually add the strict, non-renamed versions
yet so that it breaks compile if I get it wrong.
Also, while at it, make nla_validate and nla_parse go down to a
common __nla_validate_parse() function to avoid code duplication.
Ultimately, this allows us to have very strict validation for every
new caller of nla_parse()/nlmsg_parse() etc as re-introduced in the
next patch, while existing things will continue to work as is.
In effect then, this adds fully strict validation for any new command.

Even if the NLA_F_NESTED flag was introduced more than 11 years ago, most
netlink based interfaces (including recently added ones) are still not
setting it in kernel generated messages. Without the flag, message parsers
not aware of attribute semantics (e.g. wireshark dissector or libmnl's
mnl_nlmsg_fprintf()) cannot recognize nested attributes and won't display
the structure of their contents.
Unfortunately we cannot just add the flag everywhere as there may be
userspace applications which check nlattr::nla_type directly rather than
through a helper masking out the flags. Therefore the patch renames
nla_nest_start() to nla_nest_start_noflag() and introduces nla_nest_start()
as a wrapper adding NLA_F_NESTED. The calls which add NLA_F_NESTED manually
are rewritten to use nla_nest_start().
Except for changes in include/net/netlink.h, the patch was generated using
this semantic patch:

When scheduling work item to read page we need to pass down the proper
bvec struct which points to the page to read into. Before this patch it
uses a randomly initialized bvec (only if PAGE_SIZE != 4096) which is
wrong.
Note that without this patch on arch/kernel where PAGE_SIZE != 4096
userspace could read random memory through a zram block device (thought
userspace probably would have no control on the address being read).

The flags field in 'struct shash_desc' never actually does anything.
The only ostensibly supported flag is CRYPTO_TFM_REQ_MAY_SLEEP.
However, no shash algorithm ever sleeps, making this flag a no-op.
With this being the case, inevitably some users who can't sleep wrongly
pass MAY_SLEEP. These would all need to be fixed if any shash algorithm
actually started sleeping. For example, the shash_ahash_*() functions,
which wrap a shash algorithm with the ahash API, pass through MAY_SLEEP
from the ahash API to the shash API. However, the shash functions are
called under kmap_atomic(), so actually they're assumed to never sleep.
Even if it turns out that some users do need preemption points while
hashing large buffers, we could easily provide a helper function
crypto_shash_update_large() which divides the data into smaller chunks
and calls crypto_shash_update() and cond_resched() for each chunk. It's
not necessary to have a flag in 'struct shash_desc', nor is it necessary
to make individual shash algorithms aware of this at all.
Therefore, remove shash_desc::flags, and document that the
crypto_shash_*() functions can be called from any context.

user space by not setting DISK_EVENT_FLAG_UEVENT. This allows the block

handled in kernel only, and devices which don't support any meda change

When tag_set->nr_maps is 1, the block layer limits the number of hw queues
by nr_cpu_ids. No matter how many hw queues are used by virtio-blk, as it
has (tag_set->nr_maps == 1), it can use at most nr_cpu_ids hw queues.
In addition, specifically for pci scenario, when the 'num-queues' specified
by qemu is more than maxcpus, virtio-blk would not be able to allocate more
than maxcpus vectors in order to have a vector for each queue. As a result,
it falls back into MSI-X with one vector for config and one shared for
queues.
Considering above reasons, this patch limits the number of hw queues used
by virtio-blk by nr_cpu_ids.

Currently support for 64-bit sector_t and blkcnt_t is optional on 32-bit
architectures. These types are required to support block device and/or
file sizes larger than 2 TiB, and have generally defaulted to on for
a long time. Enabling the option only increases the i386 tinyconfig
size by 145 bytes, and many data structures already always use
64-bit values for their in-core and on-disk data structures anyway,
so there should not be a large change in dynamic memory usage either.
Dropping this option removes a somewhat weird non-default config that
has cause various bugs or compiler warnings when actually used.

The loop driver always declares the rotational flag of its device as
rotational, even when the device of the mapped file is nonrotational,
as is the case with SSDs or on tmpfs. This can confuse filesystem tools
which are SSD-aware; in my case I frequently forget to tell mkfs.btrfs
that my loop device on tmpfs is nonrotational, and that I really don't
need any automatic metadata redundancy.
The attached patch fixes this by introspecting the rotational flag of the
mapped file's underlying block device, if it exists. If the mapped file's
filesystem has no associated block device - as is the case on e.g. tmpfs -
we assume nonrotational storage. If there is a better way to identify such
non-devices I'd love to hear them.

Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely,
so make it common as well.
The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy
is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's
still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but
we can fake it using pre_doit.
This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands):
text data bss dec hex filename
398745 14323 2240 415308 6564c net/wireless/nl80211.o (before)
397913 14331 2240 414484 65314 net/wireless/nl80211.o (after)
--------------------------------
-832 +8 0 -824
Which is obviously just 8 bytes for each command, and an added 8
bytes for the new policy pointer. I'm not sure why the ops list is
counted as .text though.
Most of the code transformations were done using the following spatch:
@ops@
identifier OPS;
expression POLICY;
@@
struct genl_ops OPS[] = {
...,
{
- .policy = POLICY,
},
...
};
@@
identifier ops.OPS;
expression ops.POLICY;
identifier fam;
expression M;
@@
struct genl_family fam = {
.ops = OPS,
.maxattr = M,
+ .policy = POLICY,
...
};
This also gets rid of devlink_nl_cmd_region_read_dumpit() accessing
the cb->data as ops, which we want to change in a later genl patch.

Now that we have alloc_size that controls our discard behavior, it
doesn't make sense to have these set to object (set) size. alloc_size
defaults to 64k, but because discard_granularity is likely 4M, only
ranges that are equal to or bigger than 4M can be considered during
fstrim. A smaller io_min is also more likely to be met, resulting in
fewer deferred writes on bluestore OSDs.

Here is the big driver core patchset for 5.1-rc1
More patches than "normal" here this merge window, due to some work in
the driver core by Alexander Duyck to rework the async probe
functionality to work better for a number of devices, and independant
work from Rafael for the device link functionality to make it work
"correctly".
Also in here is:
- lots of BUS_ATTR() removals, the macro is about to go away
- firmware test fixups
- ihex fixups and simplification
- component additions (also includes i915 patches)
- lots of minor coding style fixups and cleanups.

Patch series "Replace all open encodings for NUMA_NO_NODE", v3.
All these places for replacement were found by running the following
grep patterns on the entire kernel code. Please let me know if this
might have missed some instances. This might also have replaced some
false positives. I will appreciate suggestions, inputs and review.
1. git grep "nid == -1"
2. git grep "node == -1"
3. git grep "nid = -1"
4. git grep "node = -1"
This patch (of 2):
At present there are multiple places where invalid node number is
encoded as -1. Even though implicitly understood it is always better to
have macros in there. Replace these open encodings for an invalid node
number with the global macro NUMA_NO_NODE. This helps remove NUMA
related assumptions like 'invalid node' from various places redirecting
them to a common definition.

All copyups perform deep-copyup regardless of whether deep-flatten
feature is enabled. The feature bit is used to ensure that image is
written to only by new-enough clients that always perform deep-copyup.
Signed-off-by: Ilya Dryomov <idryomov@gmail.com>
Otherwise, once the parent snapshot is removed, the clone's snapshot
wouldn't reflect the state of the clone prior to whole-object write or
zeroout because a deep-copyup was never done ("rbd flatten" wouldn't do
it because the modified object would exist in HEAD).
Signed-off-by: Ilya Dryomov <idryomov@gmail.com>
This is the core of deep-flatten feature: sending a copyup request
(i.e. a guarded write of the data read from the parent) with an empty
snapshot context (snaps = [], seq = 0) causes the OSD to reflect the
write in all existing snapshots. This allows "rbd flatten" to fully
disconnect the clone image and its snapshots from the parent and make
the parent snapshot removable.
The actual modification request is sent only after deep-copyup request
is completed. Waiting for deep-copyup reply is unnecessary, this will
be improved in the future.
Signed-off-by: Ilya Dryomov <idryomov@gmail.com>
In preparation for deep-flatten feature, split rbd_obj_issue_copyup()
into two functions and add a new write state to make the state machine
slightly more clear. Make the copyup op optional and start using that
for when the overlap goes to 0.
Signed-off-by: Ilya Dryomov <idryomov@gmail.com>
In preparation for deep-flatten feature, stop copying num_osd_ops from
the original request in rbd_obj_issue_copyup(). Split the calculation
into count_{write,zeroout}_ops() respectively and determine whether the
assert_exists guard is needed with the new rbd_obj_copyup_enabled().
As a nice side effect, we no longer guard in the writefull case as the
copyup'ed object is always fully overwritten.
Signed-off-by: Ilya Dryomov <idryomov@gmail.com>
Otherwise the assert in rbd_obj_end_request() is triggered.
