Gerd Hoffmann 7082e7a438 drm/virtio: batch display update commands.
When the driver submits multiple commands in a row it makes sense to
notify the host only after submitting the last one, so the host can
process them all at once, with a single vmexit.

Add functions to enable/disable notifications to allow that. Use the
new functions for primary plane updates.

Gerd Hoffmann c66df701e7 drm/virtio: switch from ttm to gem shmem helpers
virtio-gpu basically needs a sg_table for the bo, to tell the host where
the backing pages for the object are. So the gem shmem helpers are a
perfect fit. Some drm_gem_object_funcs need thin wrappers to update the
host state, but otherwise the helpers handle everything just fine.

Once the fencing was sorted the switch was surprisingly easy and for the
most part just removing the ttm code.

Gerd Hoffmann e2324300f4 drm/virtio: rework virtio_gpu_object_create fencing
Rework fencing workflow. Stop using ttm helpers, use the
virtio_gpu_array_* helpers instead.

Due to using the gem reservation object it is initialized and ready for
use before calling ttm_bo_init. So we can simply use the standard
fencing workflow and drop the tricky logic which checks whenever the
command is in flight still.

Gerd Hoffmann da758d5196 drm/virtio: rework virtio_gpu_execbuffer_ioctl fencing
Rework fencing workflow, starting with virtio_gpu_execbuffer_ioctl.
Stop using ttm helpers, use the virtio_gpu_array_* helpers (which work
on the reservation objects directly) instead.

Also store the object array in struct virtio_gpu_vbuffer, so we
explicitly keep a reference of all buffers used instead of depending
on ttm_bo_put() checking whenever the object is actually idle before
releasing it.

New workflow:

 (1) All gem objects needed by a command are added to a
     virtio_gpu_object_array.
 (2) All reservation objects will be locked (virtio_gpu_array_lock_resv).
 (3) virtio_gpu_fence_emit() completes fence initialization.
 (4) fence gets added to the objects, reservation objects are unlocked
     (virtio_gpu_array_add_fence, virtio_gpu_array_unlock_resv).
 (5) virtio command is submitted to the host.
 (6) The completion callback (virtio_gpu_dequeue_ctrl_func)
will drop object references and free virtio_gpu_object_array.

virtio_gpu_cmd_get_capset would check for the existence of an entry
under lock. If it was not found, it would unlock and call
virtio_gpu_cmd_get_capset to create a new entry. The new entry would
be added it to the list without checking if it was added by another
task during the period where the lock was not held resulting in
duplicate entries.

Compounding this issue, virtio_gpu_cmd_capset_cb would stop iterating

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"This has two exciting community drivers for ARM Mali accelerators.
Since ARM has never been open source friendly on the GPU side of the
house, the community has had to create open source drivers for the
Mali GPUs. Lima covers the older t4xx and panfrost the newer 6xx/7xx
series. Well done to all involved and hopefully this will help ARM
  head in the right direction.

There is also now the ability if you don't have any of the legacy
drivers enabled (pre-KMS) to remove all the pre-KMS support code from
the core drm, this saves 10% or so in codesize on my machine.

i915 also enable Icelake/Elkhart Lake Gen11 GPUs by default, vboxvideo

Chia-I Wu 48ad7751db drm/virtio: trace drm_fence_emit

Chia-I Wu efe2bf9655 drm/virtio: set seqno for dma-fence
This is motivated by having meaningful ftrace events, but it also
fixes use cases where dma_fence_is_later is called, such as in
sync_file_merge.

In other drivers, fence creation and cmdbuf submission normally
happen atomically,

  mutex_lock();
  fence = dma_fence_create(..., ++timeline->seqno);
  submit_cmdbuf();
  mutex_unlock();

and have no such issue. But in our driver, because most ioctls
queue commands into ctrlq, we do not want to grab a lock. Instead,
we set seqno to 0 when a fence is created, and update it when the
command is finally queued and the seqno is known.

Dave Airlie a0cecc23cf Revert "drm/virtio: drop prime import/export callbacks"
This patch does more harm than good, as it breaks both Xwayland and
gnome-shell with X11.

Xwayland requires DRI3 & DRI3 requires PRIME.

X11 crash for obscure double-free reason which are hard to debug
(starting X11 by hand doesn't trigger the crash).

I don't see an apparent problem implementing those stub prime
functions, they may return an error at run-time, and it seems to be
handled fine by GNOME at least.

This reverts commit b318e3ff7c.
[airlied:
This broke userspace for virtio-gpus, and regressed things from DRI3 to DRI2.

This brings back the original problem, but it's better than regressions.]

Gerd Hoffmann 530b28426a drm/virtio: rework resource creation workflow.
This patch moves the virtio_gpu_cmd_create_resource() call (which
notifies the host about the new resource created) into the
virtio_gpu_object_create() function. That way we can call
virtio_gpu_cmd_create_resource() before ttm_bo_init(), so the host
already knows about the object when ttm initializes the object and calls
our driver callbacks.

Specifically the object is already created when the
virtio_gpu_ttm_tt_bind() callback invokes virtio_gpu_object_attach(),
so the extra virtio_gpu_object_attach() calls done after
virtio_gpu_object_create() are not needed any more.

The fence support for the create ioctl becomes a bit more tricky though.
The code moved into virtio_gpu_object_create() too. We first submit the
(fenced) virtio_gpu_cmd_create_resource() command, then initialize the
ttm object, and finally attach just created object to the fence for the
command in case it didn't finish yet.

Gerd Hoffmann 4441235f95 drm/virtio: use struct to pass params to virtio_gpu_object_create()
Create virtio_gpu_object_params, use that to pass object parameters to
virtio_gpu_object_create. This is just the first step, followup patches
will add more parameters to the struct. The plan is to use the struct
for all object parameters.

Drop unused "kernel" parameter for virtio_gpu_alloc_object(), it is
unused and always false.

Also drop "pinned" parameter. virtio-gpu doesn't shuffle around
objects, so effecively they all are pinned anyway. Hardcode
TTM_PL_FLAG_NO_EVICT so ttm knows. Doesn't change much for the moment
as virtio-gpu supports TTM_PL_FLAG_TT only so there is no opportunity to
move around objects. That'll probably change in the future though.

Daniel Vetter fcd70cd36b drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.h
Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in
the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is
confusing. Split them out.

To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all
drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of
drm_crtc_helper.h includes.

v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers
that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1.

v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but
not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h
there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means
rolling out lots more includes all over.

This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I
expect.

v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs.

v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits:
- (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in
other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged).
- sort alphabetically

v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I
touch.

v6: Rebase onto i915 changes.

v7: Rebase once more.

Robert Foss a56f9c868c drm/virtio: add uapi for in and out explicit fences
Add a new field called fence_fd that will be used by userspace to send
in-fences to the kernel and receive out-fences created by the kernel.

This uapi enables virtio to take advantage of explicit synchronization of
dma-bufs.

There are two new flags:

* VIRTGPU_EXECBUF_FENCE_FD_IN to be used when passing an in-fence fd.
* VIRTGPU_EXECBUF_FENCE_FD_OUT to be used when requesting an out-fence fd

The execbuffer IOCTL is now read-write to allow the userspace to read the
out-fence.

On error -1 should be returned in the fence_fd field.

A while back we removed it, yet that lead to regressions. At some later
point, I've attempted to remove it again without fully grasping the
unique (pun intended) situation that virtio is in.

Add a bulky comment to document why the call should stay as-is, for the
next person who's around.

As a Tl;Dr: virtio sits on top of struct virtio_device, which confuses
dev_is_pci(), wrong info gets sent to userspace and X doesn't start.
Driver needs to explicitly call drm_dev_set_unique() to keep it working.

Gerd Hoffmann 42fd9e6c29 drm/virtio: fix DRM_FORMAT_* handling
Use DRM_FORMAT_HOST_XRGB8888, so we are using the correct format code
on bigendian machines. Also set the quirk_addfb_prefer_host_byte_order
mode_config bit so drm_mode_addfb() asks for the correct format code.

Both DRM_FORMAT_* and VIRTIO_GPU_FORMAT_* are defined to be little
endian, so using a different mapping on bigendian machines is wrong.
It's there because of broken drm_mode_addfb() behavior. So with
drm_mode_addfb() being fixed we can fix this too.

While wading through the code I've noticed we have a little issue in
virtio: We attach a format to the bo when it is created
(DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CREATE_DUMB), not when we map it as framebuffer
(DRM_IOCTL_MODE_ADDFB). Easy way out: Support a single format only.
Pick DRM_FORMAT_HOST_XRGB8888, it is the only one actually used in
practice. Drop unused mappings in virtio_gpu_translate_format().

With this patch applied both ADDFB and ADDFB2 ioctls work correctly in
the virtio-gpu.ko driver on big endian machines. Without the patch only
ADDFB (which still seems to be used by the majority of userspace) works
correctly.

Dan Carpenter 09c4b49457 drm/virtio: fix bounds check in virtio_gpu_cmd_get_capset()
This doesn't affect runtime because in the current code "idx" is always
valid.

First, we read from "vgdev->capsets[idx].max_size" before checking
whether "idx" is within bounds. And secondly the bounds check is off by
one so we could end up reading one element beyond the end of the
vgdev->capsets[] array.

Thomas Zimmermann 0e7a3d4b66 drm/virtio: Replace ttm_bo_unref with ttm_bo_put
The function ttm_bo_put releases a reference to a TTM buffer object. The
function's name is more aligned to the Linux kernel convention of naming
ref-counting function _get and _put.

A call to ttm_bo_unref takes the address of the TTM BO object's pointer and
clears the pointer's value to NULL. This is not necessary in most cases and
sometimes even worked around by the calling code. A call to ttm_bo_put only
releases the reference without clearing the pointer.

The current behaviour of cleaning the pointer is kept in the calling code,
but should be removed if not required in a later patch.

Greg Kroah-Hartman b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 11139

and resulted in the first patch in this series.

If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930

and resulted in the second patch in this series.

 - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
   GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
   LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
   GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
   ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
   LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
   LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
   ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

Ben Widawsky e6fc3b6855 drm: Plumb modifiers through plane init
This is the plumbing for supporting fb modifiers on planes. Modifiers

restore kms panic output, but not through the bazillion of legacy

That removes another change to cargo-cult stuff in kms drivers, yay!

Linus Torvalds 54d7989f47 virtio, vhost: optimizations, fixes
Looks like a quiet cycle for vhost/virtio, just a couple of minor
tweaks. Most notable is automatic interrupt affinity for blk and scsi.
Hopefully other devices are not far behind.
