Most distributions do not enable the SOF developer options and
specifically the DMA trace. This is problematic for end-user/community
support since the sof-logger tool cannot extract valuable information.
Conversely in rare cases the DMA trace can lead to Heisenbugs by
creating more traffic to system memory and more interrupts.
This patch changes the logic so that the Kconfig value is used as a
default value for a module parameter, but this value can be changed as
needed. Users can override the distro DMA trace selection.

Exposing the DMI L1 configuration as a kernel Kconfig option was in
hindsight a really bad idea. It led to several errors reported by
distributions which selected it by mistake.
The Kconfig is now replaced with a kernel parameter. Since DMI L1
entry is incompatible with pause on a capture stream, the latter is
disabled when the kernel parameter is set.
Experimental results show an increased residency in higher C states
and a significant decrease of system power consumption for "work from
home" usages such as VoIP calls.

Current dapm widget has a single variable to describe its kcontrol's
type. As there can be many kcontrols in one widget it is inherently
presumed that the types are the same.
Lately there has been use cases where different types of kcontrols would
be needed for a single widget. Thus add pointer to dapm widget to hold
an array for different kcontrol types and modify the kcontrol creation
to operate in a loop based on individual kcontrol type.
Change control creation and deletion to use individual kcontrol types in
SOF driver. This is done in the same patch for not breaking bisect. SOF
driver is also currently the only one using the dapm widget
kcontrol_type.

leading to the use of the wrong index in an inner loop. One of the
worst single-character bugs in a long time.
This problem was not detected in our tests since in practice SoundWire
platforms only have identical devices per link and the index mistake
did not change the results.

Currently SSP DAIs don't have hw params callback function as there
wasn't anything to setup after initial topology loading. After enabling
multiple DAI configs the current config can be sent in the callback.

was only sent once in topology loading, but now it will be additionally
sent always when stream is opened. Mechanism is similar as with HDA

The ACPI scan capabilities is called from the intel-dspconfig as well
as the SOF/HDaudio drivers. This creates dependencies and randconfig issues
when HDaudio and SOF/SoundWire are not all configured as modules.
To simplify Kconfig dependencies between HDAudio, SoundWire, SOF and
intel-dspconfig, move the ACPI scan helpers to a dedicated
module. This follows the same idea as NHLT helpers which are already
handled as a dedicated module.
The only functional change is that the kernel parameter to filter
links is now handled by a different module, but that was only provided
for developers needing work-arounds for early BIOS releases.

The Kconfig file is way too convoluted. Track platforms where
SoundWire is supported, and add simpler conditions to make sure there
is no module/built-in issue.
The use of 'depends on' is less intuitive if a required 'depend' is
missing, but that's a small price to pay for clarity and simplicity.

The SOF-ACPI driver is backwards from the normal Linux model, it has a
generic driver that knows about all the specific drivers, as opposed to
having hardware specific drivers that link against a common framework.
This requires ugly Kconfig magic and leads to missed dependencies as
seen in this link error:
arm-linux-gnueabi-ld: sound/soc/sof/sof-pci-dev.o: in function `sof_acpi_probe':
sof-pci-dev.c:(.text+0x1c): undefined reference to `snd_intel_dsp_driver_probe'
Change it to use the normal probe order of starting with a specific
device in a driver, turning the sof-acpi-dev.c driver into a
library (exported symbols are name-spaced to avoid symbol pollution).
For backwards-compatibility with previous Kconfigs, the default values
for platform drivers uses the top-level ACPI configurations. The
modules were also renamed to allow for gradual transitions in test
scripts.

With current delayed probe implementation, sof_probe_complete is not
called in case of errors. And as this function is responsible for
decrementing runtime pm usage counter, this will result in following
problem:
- probe driver in conditions where probe will fail (to force
the condition on Intel SOF systems, set
"snd_sof_intel_hda_common.codec_mask=0")
- unload driver (runtime-pm usage_count is leaked)
- fix the issue by installing missing fw, modifying module parameters,
etc actions
- try to load driver again -> success, probe ok
-> device never enters runtime suspend
Fix the issue by storing result of delayed probe to a state variable and
providing new snd_sof_device_probe_completed() to be queried from SOF
PCI/ACPI/OF drivers.
If probe never completed successfully, runtime PM was not set up and
thus at remove(), we should not increment usage count anymore.

The pinmux allows for 2 SoundWire links to be enabled along with
DMICs. This was the default configuration on the TGL-RVP.
One issue with this configuration is that we don't have a means to
automatically detect how many DMICs are used, which in turn requires
the user to manually rename the topology file required on a platform.
This was borderline acceptable for Intel RVPs, but now that this
configuration is present in HP devices we need to automate the
process.
This patch makes use of the NHLT information and will pass the DMIC
number to the machine driver as a parameter. A follow-up patch will
expose the DMIC number to userspace/UCM with the configuration strings.
The Google devices do make use of DMICs instead of SoundWire link 2
and 3, but their topology is unique enough that they do not need any
NHTL support or topology renaming.

The i915 display power is requested both by controller (for init
and link reset) as well as by codec driver (for codec control).
There's an additional constraint that on some platforms frequent changes
to display power state may cause visible flicker. To avoid this, the SOF
hda controller requests display power whenever it is active and only
releases it when runtime suspended.
This patch utilizes the new hdac_bus link_power op to plug
into HDA link state changes. By monitoring link state changes,
we can keep the controller side display power wakeref until
the codec driver has completed its work, and only release
the wakeref when codec driver is suspended.

Opt-in to use snd_hdac_ext_bus_link_power() to manage HDA link

This allows to reduce power consumption in cases where some HDA codecs

active and controller itself remains in active state.

DMI L1 entry is currently disabled whenever any capture stream is
opened to prevent xruns during pause/release. But, in
order to maximise power savings for the wake-on-voice usecase,
DMI L1 entry should be enabled for D0i3-compatible capture streams.
Introduce a new field, flags in struct sof_intel_hda_stream

The old code always uses sof_fw_filename in struct snd_soc_acpi_mach
as the firmware name. However, firmware name should depend on the platform
instead of the machine. For example, different machines may use the same
soundwire link topology, but they are using the different firmware. In this
case, it's hard to determine in struct snd_soc_acpi_mach which firmware it

The LKP bot reports the following issue:
WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for SOUNDWIRE_INTEL

- SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE [=y] && SOUND [=y] && !UML &&
SND [=y] && SND_SOC [=y] && SND_SOC_SOF_TOPLEVEL [=y] &&
SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_TOPLEVEL [=y] && SND_SOC_SOF_INTEL_PCI [=y]
This comes from having tristates being configured independently, when
in practice the CONFIG_SOUNDWIRE needs to be aligned with the SOF
choices: when the SOF code is compiled as built-in, the
CONFIG_SOUNDWIRE also needs to be 'y'.
The easiest fix is to replace the 'depends' with a 'select' and have a
single user selection to activate SoundWire on Intel platforms. This
still allows regmap to be compiled independently as a module.
This is just a temporary fix, the select/depend usage will be
revisited and the SOF Kconfig re-organized, as suggested by Arnd
Bergman.

The earlier commit to fix runtime PM in case i915 init fails,
introduces a possibility to hit a page fault.
snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_exit() is designed to be called from
dev.release(). Calling it outside device reference counting, is
not safe and may lead to calling the device_exit() function
twice. Additionally, as part of ext_bus_device_init(), the device
is also registered with snd_hdac_device_register(). Thus before
calling device_exit(), the device must be removed from device
hierarchy first.
Fix the issue by rolling back init actions by calling
hdac_device_unregister() and then releasing device with put_device().
This matches with existing code in hdac-ext module.
To complete the fix, add handling for the case where
hda_codec_load_module() returns -ENODEV, and clean up the hdac_ext
resources also in this case.
In future work, hdac-ext interface should be extended to allow clients
more flexibility to handle the life-cycle of individual devices, beyond
just the current snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_remove(), which removes all
devices.

That commit keeps the codec suspended during the system suspend. However,
mute/micmute LED will clear codec's direct-complete flag by
dpm_clear_superiors_direct_complete().
This doesn't play well with SOF driver. When its runtime resume is
called for system suspend, hda_codec_jack_check() schedules
jackpoll_work which uses snd_hdac_is_power_on() to check whether codec
is suspended. Because the direct-complete path isn't taken,
pm_runtime_disable() isn't called so snd_hdac_is_power_on() returns
false and jackpoll continues to run, and snd_hda_power_up_pm() cannot
power up an already suspended codec in multiple attempts, causes the
long delay on system suspend:
if (dev->power.direct_complete) {
if (pm_runtime_status_suspended(dev)) {
pm_runtime_disable(dev);
if (pm_runtime_status_suspended(dev)) {
pm_dev_dbg(dev, state, "direct-complete ");
goto Complete;
}
pm_runtime_enable(dev);
}
dev->power.direct_complete = false;
}
When direct-complete path is taken, snd_hdac_is_power_on() returns true
and hda_jackpoll_work() is skipped by accident. So this is still not
correct.
If we were to use snd_hdac_is_power_on() in system PM path,
pm_runtime_status_suspended() should be used instead of
pm_runtime_suspended(), otherwise pm_runtime_{enable,disable}() may
change the outcome of snd_hdac_is_power_on().
Because devices suspend in reverse order (i.e. child first), it doesn't
make much sense to resume an already suspended codec from audio
controller. So avoid the issue by making sure jackpoll isn't used in
system PM process.

The condition boot_iteration == HDA_FW_BOOT_ATTEMPTS to determine
the log level for the DSP status dump would only work in the case of DSP
init failure after maximum number of attempts to initialize the DSP. If
DSP init succeeds in less than HDA_FW_BOOT_ATTEMPTS attempts and FW
loading fails, the ROM status dump would end up getting logged as debug

The module snd-intel-dspcfg, suggested by Jaroslav last year,
currently provide the means to select a PCI driver at run-time, based
on quirks, recommendations or user selection via a kernel
parameter. This capability removed a lot of confusions in
distributions and removed the need for recompilations to select legacy
HDaudio, SST or SOF drivers.
This patchset extends the concept to ACPI devices. This was driven by
the desire to at some point deprecate the Atom/SST driver for Baytrail
and Cherrytrail, which is no longer maintained by Intel. By having the
SOF driver enabled by distributions for Baytrail/Cherrytrail, we can
enable more end-user tests and make the transition easier for
distributions (likely in 2021 at this point).
This patchset provides the same solution for Broadwell, mainly to have
a single build for all Intel platforms. SOF on Broadwell remains an
option not recommended for distributions, as long as the 'catpt'
driver is maintained there is no burning desire to make SOF the
default on the three Broadwell-based platforms with the DSP
enabled.

ASoC dapm controls currently don't support more than 2 channels. This is
a problem for SOF-based devices where individual volume control cannot
be provided on the 4 DMIC input path.
If we want to provide controls for more than 2 channels, this patch
suggests a simple solution based on an override of the info callback.
For example, in the case with 4 channel DMIC PGAs, a sof_info callback
would be used. Mono and stereo cases will keep using the existing dapm
info callback.
A longer-term solution would be to remove the limits to 2 channels in
ASoC/DAPM/topology. This is a topic Intel is currently looking into,
e.g. by removing the use of 'reg' and 'rreg' fields and use arrays
instead. Such changes will be rather intrusive and touch multiple codec
and platform drivers. Removing restrictions is the right thing to do,
but this will need to be done in steps with lots of validation.

Part of PCM constraints are set based on DSP topology, but rest
should be set based on hardware capabilities. Add PCM constraints
for Intel platforms:
- Add constraint for the period count to be integer. This avoids
wrap-arounds of the DMA circular buffer in middle of a period.
- Align period size to dword/32bit as per HDA spec.
Both constraints are aligned with current implementation in snd-hda-intel
driver.

Current SOF implementation limits period and buffer sizes to multiples
of period_min. Period_min is defined in topology, but is in practise set
to align with the SOF DSP timer tick (typically 1ms).
While this approach helps user-space to avoid period sizes, which are
not aligned to the DSP timer tick, it causes problems to applications
which want to align data processing size to that of ALSA period size.
One example is JACK audio server, which limits period sizes to power of
two values.
Other ALSA drivers where audio data transfer is driven by a timer tick,
like USB, do not constraint period and buffer sizes to exact multiple of
the timer tick.
To align SOF to follow the same behaviour, drop the additional alignment
constraints. As a side-effect, this patch can cause irregularity to
period wakeup timing. This happens when application chooses settings
which were previously forbidden. For example, if application configures
period size to 2^14 bytes and audio config of S32_LE/2ch/48000Hz, one
period represents 42.667ms of audio. Without this patch, this
configuration is not allowed by SOF. With the patch applied,
configuration is allowed but the wakeups are paced by the DSP timer
tick, which is typically 1ms. Application will see period wakeups with a
42/43/42/43ms repeating pattern.
Both approaches are valid within ALSA context, but relaxing the
constraints is better aligned with existing applications and other ALSA
drivers like USB audio.

To provide backward compatibility to older systems, the SOF HDA driver
allows user to specify which HDMI codec driver to use at runtime via
kernel parameter. This mechanism has a subtle flaw in that it assumes
the codec drivers not to be loaded when the SOF PCI driver is loaded.
The problem is rooted in use of the hdev->type field.
snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_init() initializes this field to HDA_DEV_ASOC.
This signals the HDA core that ASoC drivers should be considered in
driver matching (hda_bus_match()). The SOF and SST drivers continue by
overriding this field to HDA_DEV_LEGACY and proceeding to load driver
modules with request_module(). Correct drivers will get loaded and
attached.
If however the codec drivers are already loaded when
snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_init() is called, the matching will not work as
expected as device type is still set to HDA_DEV_ASOC. Specifically if
hdac-hdmi is attached when machine driver is configured to use hdac-hda,
this leads to out-of-bounds memory access in
hda_dsp_hdmi_build_controls().
Fix the issue by adding codec type as a parameter to
snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_init() and ensuring type is set correctly from
the start.

On multiple locations checks are performed of untrusted values after adding
a constant to them. This is wrong, because the addition might overflow and
the result can then pass the check, although the original value is invalid.
Fix multiple such issues by checking the actual value and not a sum of it
and a constant.

This patch adds debug support for imx platforms. This is important in
order to gather information about the state of the DSP in case of an
oops and the reason for the oops.
This is done by checking if a message with a panic code has been placed
in the debug box, in the imx8_dsp_handle_request function from sof/imx.
If positive, the function imx8_dump, added in common, will be called.
The first step is to gather information about the registers, filename,
line number and stack by calling the imx8_get_registers, added in common.
Then the information will be printed to the console by calling the
get_status function.

Core power up involves 2 steps: The first step tries to
power up the core by setting the ADSPCS.SPA bit for the host-managed
cores. The second step involves sending the IPC to power up other
cores that are not host managed. The enabled_cores_mask should
be updated only when both these steps are successful. If the
IPC to the DSP fails, the host-managed core that was powered in
step 1 should be powered off before returning the error.

possibly 3, dmics. Add also topology postfix -1ch and -3ch for new dmic

When hda_codec_probe() doesn't initialize audio component, we disable
the codec and keep going. However,the resources are not released. The
child_count of SOF device is increased in snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_init
but is not decrease in error case, so SOF can't get suspended.
snd_hdac_ext_bus_device_exit will be invoked in HDA framework if it
gets a error. Now copy this behavior to release resources and decrease
SOF device child_count to release SOF device.

This patch adds an IPC initiated debug box region in the snd_sof_dev
structure, defined in soc/sof/sof-priv.h. It is initialized at loading,
in the sof_get_windows function from soc/sof/loader.c, in a similar manner
with the stream box and host box.
This region is useful because the firmware will put an error message
here so the kernel can read it in case of a dsp oops.

This step is needed to add possibility to pack sof_ipc_window inside
another one in used FW build tools - for example in extended manifest.
Structure reusability leads to easy parsing function reuse, so source
code is shorter and easier to maintain.
Using structures with constant size is less tricky and properly
supported by each toolchain by contrast to variable size elements.
This is minor ABI change - backward compatibility is kept.

Mirror change suggested in legacy HDaudio driver.
On SKL+ Intel platforms, the driver selection is handled by the
snd_intel_dspcfg, and when the HDaudio legacy driver is not selected,
be it with the auto-selection or user preferences with a kernel
parameter, the probe aborts with no logs, only a -ENODEV return value.
Having no dmesg trace, even with dynamic debug enabled, makes support
more complicated than it needs to be, and even experienced users can
be fooled. A simple dev_dbg() trace solves this problem.

Add topology filename override based on system DMI data matching,
typically to account for a different hardware layout.
In ACPI based systems, the tplg_filename is pre-defined in an ACPI
machine table. When a DMI quirk is detected, the
sof_pdata->tplg_filename is not set with the hard-coded ACPI value,
and instead is set with the DMI-specific filename.

This patch fixes the suspend & resume procedure to allow entry into the
low power states with some streams being active as a wake source - wake on
voice is a perfect example. The current implementation does not stop
the CORB/RIRB DMA and does not power down the HDA links. With firmware's
help, the platform has been able to still enter s0ix state on older
platforms, but the sequence is still incorrect, and the additional
driver actions are needed to ensure correct s0ix behaviour.
