In commit 6a53b75932 ("xfrm: check id proto in validate_tmpl()")
I introduced a check for xfrm protocol, but according to Herbert
IPSEC_PROTO_ANY should only be used as a wildcard for lookup, so
it should be removed from validate_tmpl().
And, IPSEC_PROTO_ANY is expected to only match 3 IPSec-specific
protocols, this is why xfrm_state_flush() could still miss
IPPROTO_ROUTING, which leads that those entries are left in
net->xfrm.state_all before exit net. Fix this by replacing
IPSEC_PROTO_ANY with zero.
This patch also extracts the check from validate_tmpl() to
xfrm_id_proto_valid() and uses it in parse_ipsecrequest().
With this, no other protocols should be added into xfrm.

Often times, recvmsg() system calls and BH handling for a particular
TCP socket are done on different cpus.
This means the incoming skb had to be allocated on a cpu,
but freed on another.
This incurs a high spinlock contention in slab layer for small rpc,
but also a high number of cache line ping pongs for larger packets.
A full size GRO packet might use 45 page fragments, meaning
that up to 45 put_page() can be involved.
More over performing the __kfree_skb() in the recvmsg() context
adds a latency for user applications, and increase probability
of trapping them in backlog processing, since the BH handler
might found the socket owned by the user.
This patch, combined with the prior one increases the rpc
performance by about 10 % on servers with large number of cores.
(tcp_rr workload with 10,000 flows and 112 threads reach 9 Mpps
instead of 8 Mpps)
This also increases single bulk flow performance on 40Gbit+ links,
since in this case there are often two cpus working in tandem :
- CPU handling the NIC rx interrupts, feeding the receive queue,
and (after this patch) freeing the skbs that were consumed.
- CPU in recvmsg() system call, essentially 100 % busy copying out
data to user space.
Having at most one skb in a per-socket cache has very little risk
of memory exhaustion, and since it is protected by socket lock,
its management is essentially free.
Note that if rps/rfs is used, we do not enable this feature, because
there is high chance that the same cpu is handling both the recvmsg()
system call and the TCP rx path, but that another cpu did the skb
allocations in the device driver right before the RPS/RFS logic.
To properly handle this case, it seems we would need to record
on which cpu skb was allocated, and use a different channel
to give skbs back to this cpu.

Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely,
so make it common as well.
The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy
is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's
still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but
we can fake it using pre_doit.
This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands):
text data bss dec hex filename
398745 14323 2240 415308 6564c net/wireless/nl80211.o (before)
397913 14331 2240 414484 65314 net/wireless/nl80211.o (after)
--------------------------------
-832 +8 0 -824
Which is obviously just 8 bytes for each command, and an added 8
bytes for the new policy pointer. I'm not sure why the ops list is
counted as .text though.
Most of the code transformations were done using the following spatch:
@ops@
identifier OPS;
expression POLICY;
@@
struct genl_ops OPS[] = {
...,
{
- .policy = POLICY,
},
...
};
@@
identifier ops.OPS;
expression ops.POLICY;
identifier fam;
expression M;
@@
struct genl_family fam = {
.ops = OPS,
.maxattr = M,
+ .policy = POLICY,
...
};
This also gets rid of devlink_nl_cmd_region_read_dumpit() accessing
the cb->data as ops, which we want to change in a later genl patch.

Change addrconf_f6i_alloc to generate a fib6_config and call
ip6_route_info_create. addrconf_f6i_alloc is the last caller to
fib6_info_alloc besides ip6_route_info_create, and there is no
reason for it to do its own initialization on a fib6_info.
Host routes need to be created even if the device is down, so add a
new flag, fc_ignore_dev_down, to fib6_config and update fib6_nh_init
to not error out if device is not up.
Notes on the conversion:
- ip_fib_metrics_init is the same as fib6_config has fc_mx set to NULL
and fc_mx_len set to 0
- dst_nocount is handled by the RTF_ADDRCONF flag
- dst_host is handled by fc_dst_len = 128
nh_gw does not get set after the conversion to ip6_route_info_create
but it should not be set in addrconf_f6i_alloc since this is a host
route not a gateway route.

Also changes:
ret = nf_nat_ipv4_fn(priv, skb, state);
if (ret != NF_DROP && ret != NF_STOLEN &&

if (ret != NF_ACCEPT)

everywhere.
The nat hooks never should return anything other than
ACCEPT or DROP (and the latter only in rare error cases).
The original code uses multi-line ANDing including assignment-in-if:
if (ret != NF_DROP && ret != NF_STOLEN &&
!(IPCB(skb)->flags & IPSKB_XFRM_TRANSFORMED) &&
(ct = nf_ct_get(skb, &ctinfo)) != NULL) {
I removed this while moving, breaking those in separate conditionals
and moving the assignments into extra lines.
checkpatch still generates some warnings:
1. Overly long lines (of moved code).
Breaking them is even more ugly. so I kept this as-is.
2. use of extern function declarations in a .c file.
This is necessary evil, we must call
nf_nat_l3proto_register() from the nat core now.
All l3proto related functions are removed later in this series,
those prototypes are then removed as well.

IPv6 currently does not support nexthops outside of the AF_INET6 family.
Specifically, it does not handle RTA_VIA attribute. If it is passed
in a route add request, the actual route added only uses the device
which is clearly not what the user intended:
$ ip -6 ro add 2001:db8:2::/64 via inet 172.16.1.1 dev eth0

When a netdevice is unregistered, we flush the relevant exception
via rt6_sync_down_dev() -> fib6_ifdown() -> fib6_del() -> fib6_del_route().
Finally, we end-up calling rt6_remove_exception(), where we release
the relevant dst, while we keep the references to the related fib6_info and
dev. Such references should be released later when the dst will be
destroyed.
There are a number of caches that can keep the exception around for an

changes.
However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.
On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks. Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.
What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU. I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to

Some protocols have other means to verify the payload integrity
(AH, ESP, SCTP) while others are incompatible with nf_ip(6)_checksum

to validate the packets, ip(6)tables REJECT rules were not capable

Commit 508b09046c ("netfilter: ipv6: Preserve link scope traffic

link-local and multicast packets. However, it also affected packets
for the loopback address because it used rt6_need_strict().
REDIRECT rules in the OUTPUT chain rewrite the destination to loopback
address; thus its oif should not be preserved. This commit fixes the bug
that redirected local packets are being dropped. Actually the packet was
not exactly dropped; Instead it was sent out to the original oif rather
than lo. When a packet with daddr ::1 is sent to the router, it is
effectively dropped.

xfrm_state_put() moves struct xfrm_state to the GC list
and schedules the GC work to clean it up. On net exit call
path, xfrm_state_flush() is called to clean up and
xfrm_flush_gc() is called to wait for the GC work to complete
before exit.
However, this doesn't work because one of the ->destructor(),
ipcomp_destroy(), schedules the same GC work again inside
the GC work. It is hard to wait for such a nested async
callback. This is also why syzbot still reports the following
warning:
WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 33 at net/ipv6/xfrm6_tunnel.c:351 xfrm6_tunnel_net_exit+0x2cb/0x500 net/ipv6/xfrm6_tunnel.c:351

In fact, it is perfectly fine to bypass GC and destroy xfrm_state
synchronously on net exit call path, because it is in process context
and doesn't need a work struct to do any blocking work.
This patch introduces xfrm_state_put_sync() which simply bypasses
GC, and lets its callers to decide whether to use this synchronous
version. On net exit path, xfrm_state_fini() and
xfrm6_tunnel_net_exit() use it. And, as ipcomp_destroy() itself is
blocking, it can use xfrm_state_put_sync() directly too.
Also rename xfrm_state_gc_destroy() to ___xfrm_state_destroy() to
reflect this change.

When the MC route socket is closed, mroute_clean_tables() is called to
cleanup existing routes. Mistakenly notifiers call was put on the cleanup
of the unresolved MC route entries cache.
In a case where the MC socket closes before an unresolved route expires,
the notifier call leads to a crash, caused by the driver trying to
increment a non initialized refcount_t object [1] and then when handling
is done, to decrement it [2]. This was detected by a test recently added in
commit 6d4efada3b ("selftests: forwarding: Add multicast routing test").
Fix that by putting notifiers call on the resolved entries traversal,
instead of on the unresolved entries traversal.

Instead of using pingpong as a single bit information, we refactor the
code to treat it as a counter. When interactive session is detected,
we set pingpong count to TCP_PINGPONG_THRESH. And when pingpong count
is >= TCP_PINGPONG_THRESH, we consider the session in pingpong mode.
This patch is a pure refactor and sets foundation for the next patch.

This message gets logged far too often for how interesting is it.
Most distributions nowadays configure NetworkManager to use randomly
generated MAC addresses for Wi-Fi network scans. The interfaces end up
being periodically brought down for the address change. When they're
subsequently brought back up, the message is logged, eventually flooding
the log.
Perhaps the message is not all that helpful: it seems to be more
interesting to hear when the addrconf actually start, not when it does
not. Let's lower its level.

When multiple multicast routers are present in a broadcast domain then
only one of them will be detectable via IGMP/MLD query snooping. The
multicast router with the lowest IP address will become the selected and
active querier while all other multicast routers will then refrain from
sending queries.
To detect such rather silent multicast routers, too, RFC4286
("Multicast Router Discovery") provides a standardized protocol to
detect multicast routers for multicast snooping switches.
This patch implements the necessary MRD Advertisement message parsing
and after successful processing adds such routers to the internal
multicast router list.

This patch refactors ip_mc_check_igmp(), ipv6_mc_check_mld() and
their callers (more precisely, the Linux bridge) to not rely on
the skb_trimmed parameter anymore.
An skb with its tail trimmed to the IP packet length was initially
introduced for the following three reasons:
1) To be able to verify the ICMPv6 checksum.
2) To be able to distinguish the version of an IGMP or MLD query.
They are distinguishable only by their size.
3) To avoid parsing data for an IGMPv3 or MLDv2 report that is
beyond the IP packet but still within the skb.
The first case still uses a cloned and potentially trimmed skb to
verfiy. However, there is no need to propagate it to the caller.
For the second and third case explicit IP packet length checks were
added.
This hopefully makes ip_mc_check_igmp() and ipv6_mc_check_mld() easier
to read and verfiy, as well as easier to use.

There have been many people complaining about the inconsistent
behaviors of IPv4 and IPv6 devconf when creating new network
namespaces. Currently, for IPv4, we inherit all current settings
from init_net, but for IPv6 we reset all setting to default.
This patch introduces a new /proc file
/proc/sys/net/core/devconf_inherit_init_net to control the
behavior of whether to inhert sysctl current settings from init_net.
This file itself is only available in init_net.
As demonstrated below:
Initial setup in init_net:
# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter

# cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/accept_dad

# ip netns del test

# ip netns exec test cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter
2
# ip netns exec test cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/accept_dad

# ip netns add test
# ip netns exec test cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter

sys_sendmsg has supported unspecified destination IPv6 (wildcard) for
unconnected UDP sockets since 876c7f41. When [::] is passed by user as
destination, sys_sendmsg rewrites it with [::1] to be consistent with
BSD (see "BSD'ism" comment in the code).
This didn't work when cgroup-bpf was enabled though since the rewrite
[::] -> [::1] happened before passing control to cgroup-bpf block where
fl6.daddr was updated with passed by user sockaddr_in6.sin6_addr (that
might or might not be changed by BPF program). That way if user passed
[::] as dst IPv6 it was first rewritten with [::1] by original code from
876c7f41, but then rewritten back with [::] by cgroup-bpf block.
It happened even when BPF_CGROUP_UDP6_SENDMSG program was not present
(CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF=y was enough).
The fix is to apply BSD'ism after cgroup-bpf block so that [::] is
replaced with [::1] no matter where it came from: passed by user to

This is because a RX packet found socket owned by user and
was stored into socket backlog. Before leaving RCU protected section,
skb->dev was cleared in __sk_receive_skb(). When socket backlog
was finally handled at release_sock() time, skb was fed to
smack_socket_sock_rcv_skb() then icmp6_send()
We could fix the bug in smack_socket_sock_rcv_skb(), or simply
make icmp6_send() more robust against such possibility.
In the future we might provide to icmp6_send() the net pointer
instead of infering it.

I forgot to deal with IPv6 in commit 11789039da ("fou: Prevent unbounded
recursion in GUE error handler").
Now syzbot reported what might be the same type of issue, caused by
gue6_err(), that is, handling exceptions for direct UDP encapsulation in
GUE (UDP-in-UDP) leads to unbounded recursion in the GUE exception
handler.
As it probably doesn't make sense to set up GUE this way, and it's
currently not even possible to configure this, skip exception handling for
UDP (or UDP-Lite) packets encapsulated in UDP (or UDP-Lite) packets with
GUE on IPv6.

This commit fixes a regression in AF_INET/RTM_GETADDR and
AF_INET6/RTM_GETADDR.
Before this commit, the kernel would stop dumping addresses once the first
skb was full and end the stream with NLMSG_DONE(-EMSGSIZE). The error
shouldn't be sent back to netlink_dump so the callback is kept alive. The
userspace is expected to call back with a new empty skb.
Changes from V1:
- The error is not handled in netlink_dump anymore but rather in
inet_dump_ifaddr and inet6_dump_addr directly as suggested by

This adds an optional extension infrastructure, with ispec (xfrm) and
bridge netfilter as first users.
objdiff shows no changes if kernel is built without xfrm and br_netfilter
support.
The third (planned future) user is Multipath TCP which is still
out-of-tree.
MPTCP needs to map logical mptcp sequence numbers to the tcp sequence
numbers used by individual subflows.
This DSS mapping is read/written from tcp option space on receive and
written to tcp option space on transmitted tcp packets that are part of
and MPTCP connection.
Extending skb_shared_info or adding a private data field to skb fclones
doesn't work for incoming skb, so a different DSS propagation method would
be required for the receive side.
mptcp has same requirements as secpath/bridge netfilter:
1. extension memory is released when the sk_buff is free'd.
2. data is shared after cloning an skb (clone inherits extension)
3. adding extension to an skb will COW the extension buffer if needed.
The "MPTCP upstreaming" effort adds SKB_EXT_MPTCP extension to store the
mapping for tx and rx processing.
Two new members are added to sk_buff:
1. 'active_extensions' byte (filling a hole), telling which extensions
are available for this skb.
This has two purposes.
a) avoids the need to initialize the pointer.
b) allows to "delete" an extension by clearing its bit
value in ->active_extensions.
While it would be possible to store the active_extensions byte
in the extension struct instead of sk_buff, there is one problem
with this:
When an extension has to be disabled, we can always clear the
bit in skb->active_extensions. But in case it would be stored in the
extension buffer itself, we might have to COW it first, if
we are dealing with a cloned skb. On kmalloc failure we would
be unable to turn an extension off.
2. extension pointer, located at the end of the sk_buff.
If the active_extensions byte is 0, the pointer is undefined,
it is not initialized on skb allocation.
This adds extra code to skb clone and free paths (to deal with
refcount/free of extension area) but this replaces similar code that
manages skb->nf_bridge and skb->sp structs in the followup patches of
the series.
It is possible to add support for extensions that are not preseved on
clones/copies.
To do this, it would be needed to define a bitmask of all extensions that
need copy/cow semantics, and change __skb_ext_copy() to check
->active_extensions & SKB_EXT_PRESERVE_ON_CLONE, then just set
->active_extensions to 0 on the new clone.
This isn't done here because all extensions that get added here
need the copy/cow semantics.
v2:
Allocate entire extension space using kmem_cache.
Upside is that this allows better tracking of used memory,
downside is that we will allocate more space than strictly needed in
most cases (its unlikely that all extensions are active/needed at same
time for same skb).
The allocated memory (except the small extension header) is not cleared,
so no additonal overhead aside from memory usage.
Avoid atomic_dec_and_test operation on skb_ext_put()
by using similar trick as kfree_skbmem() does with fclone_ref:
If recount is 1, there is no concurrent user and we can free right away.

Several conflicts, seemingly all over the place.
I used Stephen Rothwell's sample resolutions for many of these, if not
just to double check my own work, so definitely the credit largely
goes to him.
The NFP conflict consisted of a bug fix (moving operations
past the rhashtable operation) while chaning the initial
argument in the function call in the moved code.
The net/dsa/master.c conflict had to do with a bug fix intermixing of
making dsa_master_set_mtu() static with the fixing of the tagging
attribute location.
cls_flower had a conflict because the dup reject fix from Or
overlapped with the addition of port range classifiction.
__set_phy_supported()'s conflict was relatively easy to resolve
because Andrew fixed it in both trees, so it was just a matter
of taking the net-next copy. Or at least I think it was :-)
Joe Stringer's fix to the handling of netns id 0 in bpf_sk_lookup()
intermixed with changes on how the sdif and caller_net are calculated
in these code paths in net-next.
The remaining BPF conflicts were largely about the addition of the
__bpf_md_ptr stuff in 'net' overlapping with adjustments and additions
to the relevant data structure where the MD pointer macros are used.

Even if we send an IPv6 packet without options, MAX_HEADER might not be
enough to account for the additional headroom required by alignment of
hardware headers.
On a configuration without HYPERV_NET, WLAN, AX25, and with IPV6_TUNNEL,
sending short SCTP packets over IPv4 over L2TP over IPv6, we start with
100 bytes of allocated headroom in sctp_packet_transmit(), end up with 54
bytes after l2tp_xmit_skb(), and 14 bytes in ip6_finish_output2().
Those would be enough to append our 14 bytes header, but we're going to
align that to 16 bytes, and write 2 bytes out of the allocated slab in
neigh_hh_output().

necessary to route the extack to __dev_open() from diverse (possibly

Therefore extend dev_open() with and extra extack argument and update

The *_frag_reasm() functions are susceptible to miscalculating the byte
count of packet fragments in case the truesize of a head buffer changes.
The truesize member may be changed by the call to skb_unclone(), leaving
the fragment memory limit counter unbalanced even if all fragments are
processed. This miscalculation goes unnoticed as long as the network
namespace which holds the counter is not destroyed.
Should an attempt be made to destroy a network namespace that holds an
unbalanced fragment memory limit counter the cleanup of the namespace
never finishes. The thread handling the cleanup gets stuck in
inet_frags_exit_net() waiting for the percpu counter to reach zero. The

With MSG_ZEROCOPY, each skb holds a reference to a struct ubuf_info.
Release of its last reference triggers a completion notification.
The TCP stack in tcp_sendmsg_locked holds an extra ref independent of
the skbs, because it can build, send and free skbs within its loop,
possibly reaching refcount zero and freeing the ubuf_info too soon.
The UDP stack currently also takes this extra ref, but does not need
it as all skbs are sent after return from __ip(6)_append_data.
Avoid the extra refcount_inc and refcount_dec_and_test, and generally
the sock_zerocopy_put in the common path, by passing the initial
reference to the first skb.
This approach is taken instead of initializing the refcount to 0, as
that would generate error "refcount_t: increment on 0" on the
next skb_zcopy_set.

When we add a new IPv6 address, we should also join corresponding solicited-node
multicast address, unless the interface has IFF_NOARP flag, as function
addrconf_join_solict() did. But if we remove IFF_NOARP flag later, we do
not do dad and add the mcast address. So we will drop corresponding neighbour
discovery message that came from other nodes.
A typical example is after creating a ipvlan with mode l3, setting up an ipv6
address and changing the mode to l2. Then we will not be able to ping this
address as the interface doesn't join related solicited-node mcast address.
Fix it by re-doing dad when interface changed IFF_NOARP flag. Then we will add
corresponding mcast group and check if there is a duplicate address on the

As the destination port in FoU and GUE receiving sockets doesn't
necessarily match the remote destination port, we can't associate errors
to the encapsulating tunnels with a socket lookup -- we need to blindly
try them instead. This means we don't even know if we are handling errors
for FoU or GUE without digging into the packets.
Hence, implement a single handler for both, one for IPv4 and one for IPv6,
that will check whether the packet that generated the ICMP error used a
direct IP encapsulation or if it had a GUE header, and send the error to
the matching protocol handler, if any.

ICMP error handling is currently not possible for UDP tunnels not
employing a receiving socket with local destination port matching the
remote one, because we have no way to look them up.
Add an err_handler tunnel encapsulation operation that can be exported by
tunnels in order to pass the error to the protocol implementing the
encapsulation. We can't easily use a lookup function as we did for VXLAN
and GENEVE, as protocol error handlers, which would be in turn called by
implementations of this new operation, handle the errors themselves,
together with the tunnel lookup.
Without a socket, we can't be sure which encapsulation error handler is
the appropriate one: encapsulation handlers (the ones for FoU and GUE
introduced in the next patch, e.g.) will need to check the new error codes
returned by protocol handlers to figure out if errors match the given
encapsulation, and, in turn, report this error back, so that we can try
all of them in __udp{4,6}_lib_err_encap_no_sk() until we have a match.

We'll need this to handle ICMP errors for tunnels without a sending socket
(i.e. FoU and GUE). There, we might have to look up different types of IP
tunnels, registered as network protocols, before we get a match, so we
want this for the error handlers of IPPROTO_IPIP and IPPROTO_IPV6 in both
inet_protos and inet6_protos. These error codes will be used in the next
patch.
For consistency, return sensible error codes in protocol error handlers
whenever handlers can't handle errors because, even if valid, they don't
match a protocol or any of its states.

For both IPv4 and IPv6, if we can't match errors to a socket, try
tunnels before ignoring them. Look up a socket with the original source
and destination ports as found in the UDP packet inside the ICMP payload,
this will work for tunnels that force the same destination port for both
endpoints, i.e. VXLAN and GENEVE.
Actually, lwtunnels could break this assumption if they are configured by
an external control plane to have different destination ports on the
endpoints: in this case, we won't be able to trace ICMP messages back to
them.
For IPv6 redirect messages, call ip6_redirect() directly with the output
interface argument set to the interface we received the packet from (as
it's the very interface we should build the exception on), otherwise the
new nexthop will be rejected. There's no such need for IPv4.
Tunnels can now export an encap_err_lookup() operation that indicates a
match. Pass the packet to the lookup function, and if the tunnel driver
reports a matching association, continue with regular ICMP error handling.

In some scenarios, the GRO engine can assemble an UDP GRO packet
that ultimately lands on a non GRO-enabled socket.
This patch tries to address the issue explicitly checking for the UDP
socket features before enqueuing the packet, and eventually segmenting
the unexpected GRO packet, as needed.
We must also cope with re-insertion requests: after segmentation the
UDP code calls the helper introduced by the previous patches, as needed.
Segmentation is performed by a common helper, which takes care of
updating socket and protocol stats is case of failure.

This is the RX counterpart of commit bec1f6f697 ("udp: generate gso
with UDP_SEGMENT"). When UDP_GRO is enabled, such socket is also
eligible for GRO in the rx path: UDP segments directed to such socket
are assembled into a larger GSO_UDP_L4 packet.
The core UDP GRO support is enabled with setsockopt(UDP_GRO).
Initial benchmark numbers:
Before:
udp rx: 1079 MB/s 769065 calls/s
After:
udp rx: 1466 MB/s 24877 calls/s
This change introduces a side effect in respect to UDP tunnels:
after a UDP tunnel creation, now the kernel performs a lookup per ingress
UDP packet, while before such lookup happened only if the ingress packet
carried a valid internal header csum.
rfc v2 -> rfc v3:
- fixed typos in macro name and comments
- really enforce UDP_GRO_CNT_MAX, instead of UDP_GRO_CNT_MAX + 1
- acquire socket lock in UDP_GRO setsockopt

ping to the link-local from a vrf, the error handling for IPV6_PKTINFO

When there exist a pair of raw sockets one unbound and one bound
to a VRF but equal in all other respects, when a packet is received
in the VRF context, __raw_v4_lookup() matches on both sockets.
This results in the packet being delivered over both sockets,
instead of only the raw socket bound to the VRF. The bound device
checks in __raw_v4_lookup() are replaced with a call to
raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which correctly handles whether the packet
should be delivered over the unbound socket in such cases.
In __raw_v6_lookup() the match on the device binding of the socket is
similarly updated to use raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which matches the
handling in __raw_v4_lookup().
Importantly raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() takes the raw_l3mdev_accept sysctl
into account.

Ensure an unbound datagram skt is chosen when not in a VRF. The check
for a device match in compute_score() for UDP must be performed when
there is no device match. For this, a failure is returned when there is
no device match. This ensures that bound sockets are never selected,
even if there is no unbound socket.
Allow IPv6 packets to be sent over a datagram skt bound to a VRF. These
packets are currently blocked, as flowi6_oif was set to that of the
master vrf device, and the ipi6_ifindex is that of the slave device.
Allow these packets to be sent by checking the device with ipi6_ifindex
has the same L3 scope as that of the bound device of the skt, which is
the master vrf device. Note that this check always succeeds if the skt
is unbound.
Even though the right datagram skt is now selected by compute_score(),
a different skt is being returned that is bound to the wrong vrf. The
difference between these and stream sockets is the handling of the skt
option for SO_REUSEPORT. While the handling when adding a skt for reuse
correctly checks that the bound device of the skt is a match, the skts
in the hashslot are already incorrect. So for the same hash, a skt for
the wrong vrf may be selected for the required port. The root cause is
that the skt is immediately placed into a slot when it is created,
but when the skt is then bound using SO_BINDTODEVICE, it remains in the
same slot. The solution is to move the skt to the correct slot by
forcing a rehash.

Commit a61bbcf28a ("[NET]: Store skb->timestamp as offset to a base

ndisc_rcv(), as ndisc_recv_ns() uses it.
Commit f2776ff047 ("[IPV6]: Fix address/interface handling in UDP and
DCCP, according to the scoping architecture.") introduces the usage of the
IPv6 control buffer in protocol error handlers (e.g. inet6_iif() in
present-day __udp6_lib_err()).
Now, with commit b94f1c0904 ("ipv6: Use icmpv6_notify() to propagate
redirect, instead of rt6_redirect()."), we call protocol error handlers
from ndisc_redirect_rcv(), after the control buffer is already stolen and
some parts are already zeroed out. This implies that inet6_iif() on this
path will always return zero.
This gives unexpected results on UDP socket lookup in __udp6_lib_err(), as
we might actually need to match sockets for a given interface.
Instead of always claiming the control buffer in ndisc_rcv(), do that only
when needed.

Current handling of CHECKSUM_COMPLETE packets by the UDP stack is
incorrect for any packet that has an incorrect checksum value.
udp4/6_csum_init() will both make a call to
__skb_checksum_validate_complete() to initialize/validate the csum
field when receiving a CHECKSUM_COMPLETE packet. When this packet
fails validation, skb->csum will be overwritten with the pseudoheader
checksum so the packet can be fully validated by software, but the
skb->ip_summed value will be left as CHECKSUM_COMPLETE so that way
the stack can later warn the user about their hardware spewing bad
checksums. Unfortunately, leaving the SKB in this state can cause
problems later on in the checksum calculation.
Since the the packet is still marked as CHECKSUM_COMPLETE,
udp_csum_pull_header() will SUBTRACT the checksum of the UDP header
from skb->csum instead of adding it, leaving us with a garbage value
in that field. Once we try to copy the packet to userspace in the
udp4/6_recvmsg(), we'll make a call to skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_msg()
to checksum the packet data and add it in the garbage skb->csum value
to perform our final validation check.
Since the value we're validating is not the proper checksum, it's possible
that the folded value could come out to 0, causing us not to drop the
packet. Instead, we believe that the packet was checksummed incorrectly
by hardware since skb->ip_summed is still CHECKSUM_COMPLETE, and we attempt
to warn the user with netdev_rx_csum_fault(skb->dev);
Unfortunately, since this is the UDP path, skb->dev has been overwritten
by skb->dev_scratch and is no longer a valid pointer, so we end up
reading invalid memory.
This patch addresses this problem in two ways:
1) Do not use the dev pointer when calling netdev_rx_csum_fault()
from skb_copy_and_csum_datagram_msg(). Since this gets called
from the UDP path where skb->dev has been overwritten, we have
no way of knowing if the pointer is still valid. Also for the
sake of consistency with the other uses of
netdev_rx_csum_fault(), don't attempt to call it if the
packet was checksummed by software.
2) Add better CHECKSUM_COMPLETE handling to udp4/6_csum_init().
If we receive a packet that's CHECKSUM_COMPLETE that fails
verification (i.e. skb->csum_valid == 0), check who performed
the calculation. It's possible that the checksum was done in
software by the network stack earlier (such as Netfilter's
CONNTRACK module), and if that says the checksum is bad,
we can drop the packet immediately instead of waiting until
we try and copy it to userspace. Otherwise, we need to
mark the SKB as CHECKSUM_NONE, since the skb->csum field
no longer contains the full packet checksum after the
call to __skb_checksum_validate_complete().

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-10-16
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Convert BPF sockmap and kTLS to both use a new sk_msg API and enable
sk_msg BPF integration for the latter, from Daniel and John.
2) Enable BPF syscall side to indicate for maps that they do not support
a map lookup operation as opposed to just missing key, from Prashant.
3) Add bpftool map create command which after map creation pins the
map into bpf fs for further processing, from Jakub.
4) Add bpftool support for attaching programs to maps allowing sock_map
and sock_hash to be used from bpftool, from John.
5) Improve syscall BPF map update/delete path for map-in-map types to
wait a RCU grace period for pending references to complete, from Daniel.
6) Couple of follow-up fixes for the BPF socket lookup to get it
enabled also when IPv6 is compiled as a module, from Joe.
7) Fix a generic-XDP bug to handle the case when the Ethernet header
was mangled and thus update skb's protocol and data, from Jesper.
8) Add a missing BTF header length check between header copies from
user space, from Wenwen.
9) Minor fixups in libbpf to use __u32 instead u32 types and include
proper perf_event.h uapi header instead of perf internal one, from Yonghong.
10) Allow to pass user-defined flags through EXTRA_CFLAGS and EXTRA_LDFLAGS
to bpftool's build, from Jiri.
11) BPF kselftest tweaks to add LWTUNNEL to config fragment and to install
with_addr.sh script from flow dissector selftest, from Anders.

When commit 270972554c ("[IPV6]: ROUTE: Add Router Reachability
Probing (RFC4191).") introduced router probing, the rt6_probe() function
required that a neighbour entry existed. This neighbour entry is used to
record the timestamp of the last probe via the ->updated field.
Later, commit 2152caea71 ("ipv6: Do not depend on rt->n in rt6_probe().")
removed the requirement for a neighbour entry. Neighbourless routes skip
the interval check and are not rate-limited.
This patch adds rate-limiting for neighbourless routes, by recording the
timestamp of the last probe in the fib6_info itself.

When a link's carrier goes down it could be a sign of the port changing
networks. If the new network has overlapping addresses with the old one,
then the kernel will continue trying to use neighbor entries established
based on the old network until the entries finally age out - meaning a
potentially long delay with communications not working.
This patch evicts neighbor entries on carrier down with the exception of
those marked permanent. Permanent entries are managed by userspace (either
an admin or a routing daemon such as FRR).

Another difference between IPv4 and IPv6 is the generation of RTM_DELROUTE
notifications when a device is taken down (admin down) or deleted. IPv4
does not generate a message for routes evicted by the down or delete;
IPv6 does. A NOS at scale really needs to avoid these messages and have
IPv4 and IPv6 behave similarly, relying on userspace to handle link
notifications and evict the routes.
At this point existing user behavior needs to be preserved. Since
notifications are a global action (not per app) the only way to preserve
existing behavior and allow the messages to be skipped is to add a new
sysctl (net/ipv6/route/skip_notify_on_dev_down) which can be set to
disable the notificatioons.
IPv6 route code already supports the option to skip the message (it is
used for multipath routes for example). Besides the new sysctl we need
to pass the skip_notify setting through the generic fib6_clean and
fib6_walk functions to fib6_clean_node and to set skip_notify on calls
to __ip_del_rt for the addrconf_ifdown path.

Currently, ip[6]frag_high_thresh sysctl values in new namespaces are
hard-limited to those of the root/init ns.
There are at least two use cases when it would be desirable to
set the high_thresh values higher in a child namespace vs the global hard
limit:
- a security/ddos protection policy may lower the thresholds in the
root/init ns but allow for a special exception in a child namespace
- testing: a test running in a namespace may want to set these
thresholds higher in its namespace than what is in the root/init ns
The new behavior:

The backend handling for /proc/net/if_inet6 in addrconf.c doesn't properly
handle starting/stopping the iteration. The problem is that at some point
during the iteration, an overflow is detected and the process is
subsequently stopped. The item being shown via seq_printf() when the
overflow occurs is not actually shown, though. When start() is
subsequently called to resume iterating, it returns the next item, and
thus the item that was being processed when the overflow occurred never
gets printed.
Alter the meaning of the private data member "offset". Currently, when it
is not 0 (which only happens at the very beginning), "offset" represents
the next hlist item to be printed. After this change, "offset" always
represents the current item.
This is also consistent with the private data member "bucket", which
represents the current bucket, and also the use of "pos" as defined in
seq_file.txt:
The pos passed to start() will always be either zero, or the most
recent pos used in the previous session.

There is no way currently for an IPv6 client connect using a loopback
address in a VRF, whereas for IPv4 the loopback address can be added:
$ sudo ip addr add dev vrfred 127.0.0.1/8
$ sudo ip -6 addr add ::1/128 dev vrfred
RTNETLINK answers: Cannot assign requested address
So allow ::1 to be configured on an L3 master device. In order for
this to be usable ip_route_output_flags needs to not consider ::1 to
be a link scope address (since oif == l3mdev and so it would be
dropped), and ipv6_rcv needs to consider the l3mdev to be a loopback

When dst->_metrics and f6i->fib6_metrics share the same memory, both
take reference count on the dst_metrics structure. However, when dst is
destroyed, ip6_dst_destroy() only invokes dst_destroy_metrics_generic()

This causes memory leak.

DST_NOCOUNT in dst_entry::flags tracks whether the entry counts
toward route cache size (net->ipv6.sysctl.ip6_rt_max_size).
If the flag is NOT set, dst_ops::pcpuc_entries counter is incremented
in dist_init() and decremented in dst_destroy().
This flag is tied to allocation/deallocation of dst_entry and
should not be copied from another dst/route. Otherwise it can happen
that dst_ops::pcpuc_entries counter grows until no new routes can
be allocated because the counter reached ip6_rt_max_size due to
DST_NOCOUNT not set and thus no counter decrements on gc-ed routes.

When splitting a GSO segment that consists of encapsulated packets, the
skb->mac_len of the segments can end up being set wrong, causing packet
drops in particular when using act_mirred and ifb interfaces in
combination with a qdisc that splits GSO packets.
This happens because at the time skb_segment() is called, network_header
will point to the inner header, throwing off the calculation in
skb_reset_mac_len(). The network_header is subsequently adjust by the
outer IP gso_segment handlers, but they don't set the mac_len.
Fix this by adding skb_reset_mac_len() calls to both the IPv4 and IPv6

In inet6_rtm_getroute, since Commit 93531c6743 ("net/ipv6: separate
handling of FIB entries from dst based routes"), it has used rt->from
to dump route info instead of rt.
However for some route like cache, some of its information like flags
or gateway is not the same as that of the 'from' one. It caused 'ip
route get' to dump the wrong route information.
In Jianlin's testing, the output information even lost the expiration
time for a pmtu route cache due to the wrong fib6_flags.
So change to use rt6_info members for dst addr, src addr, flags and
gateway when it tries to dump a route entry without fibmatch set.
v1->v2:
- not use rt6i_prefsrc.
- also fix the gw dump issue.

The socket option will be enabled by default to ensure current behaviour
is not changed. This is the same for the IPv4 version.
A socket bound to in6addr_any and a specific port will receive all traffic
on that port. Analogue to IP_MULTICAST_ALL, disable this behaviour, if
one or more multicast groups were joined (using said socket) and only
pass on multicast traffic from groups, which were explicitly joined via
this socket.
Without this option disabled a socket (system even) joined to multiple
multicast groups is very hard to get right. Filtering by destination
address has to take place in user space to avoid receiving multicast
traffic from other multicast groups, which might have traffic on the same
port.
The extension of the IP_MULTICAST_ALL socketoption to just apply to ipv6,
too, is not done to avoid changing the behaviour of current applications.

- Backwards Compatibility:
If userspace wants to determine whether ipv6 RTM_GETADDR requests
support the new IFA_TARGET_NETNSID property it should verify that the
reply includes the IFA_TARGET_NETNSID property. If it does not
userspace should assume that IFA_TARGET_NETNSID is not supported for
ipv6 RTM_GETADDR requests on this kernel.
- From what I gather from current userspace tools that make use of
RTM_GETADDR requests some of them pass down struct ifinfomsg when they
should actually pass down struct ifaddrmsg. To not break existing
tools that pass down the wrong struct we will do the same as for
RTM_GETLINK | NLM_F_DUMP requests and not error out when the

A policy may have been set up with multiple transforms (e.g., ESP
and ipcomp). In this situation, the ingress IPsec processing
iterates in xfrm_input() and applies each transform in turn,
processing the nexthdr to find any additional xfrm that may apply.
This patch resets the transport header back to network header
only after the last transformation so that subsequent xfrms
can find the correct transport header.

Jan reported a regression after an update to 4.18.5. In this case ipv6
default route is setup by systemd-networkd based on data from an RA. The
RA contains an MTU of 1492 which is used when the route is first inserted
but then systemd-networkd pushes down updates to the default route
without the mtu set.
Prior to the change to fib6_info, metrics such as MTU were held in the
dst_entry and rt6i_pmtu in rt6_info contained an update to the mtu if
any. ip6_mtu would look at rt6i_pmtu first and use it if set. If not,
the value from the metrics is used if it is set and finally falling
back to the idev value.
After the fib6_info change metrics are contained in the fib6_info struct
and there is no equivalent to rt6i_pmtu. To maintain consistency with
the old behavior the new code should only reset the MTU in the metrics
if the route update has it set.

rt->dst.lwtstate is set by ip6_rt_init_dst(), at the start of the function
ip6_rt_copy_init(), so there is no need to get it again at the end.
With this patch, lwtstate also isn't copied from RTF_REJECT routes.

Before the commit d6990976af ("vti6: fix PMTU caching and reporting

skb_scrub_packet() was called before it, resetting ignore_df to zero.
In the commit, skb_scrub_packet() was moved below, and now this check
can be false for the packet, e.g. when sending it in the two fragments,
this prevents successful PMTU updates in such case. The next attempts
to send the packet lead to the same tx error. Moreover, vti6 initial
MTU value relies on PMTU adjustments.

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-08-13
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add driver XDP support for veth. This can be used in conjunction with
redirect of another XDP program e.g. sitting on NIC so the xdp_frame
can be forwarded to the peer veth directly without modification,
from Toshiaki.
2) Add a new BPF map type REUSEPORT_SOCKARRAY and prog type SK_REUSEPORT
in order to provide more control and visibility on where a SO_REUSEPORT
sk should be located, and the latter enables to directly select a sk
from the bpf map. This also enables map-in-map for application migration
use cases, from Martin.
3) Add a new BPF helper bpf_skb_ancestor_cgroup_id() that returns the id
of cgroup v2 that is the ancestor of the cgroup associated with the
skb at the ancestor_level, from Andrey.
4) Implement BPF fs map pretty-print support based on BTF data for regular
hash table and LRU map, from Yonghong.
5) Decouple the ability to attach BTF for a map from the key and value
pretty-printer in BPF fs, and enable further support of BTF for maps for
percpu and LPM trie, from Daniel.
6) Implement a better BPF sample of using XDP's CPU redirect feature for
load balancing SKB processing to remote CPU. The sample implements the
same XDP load balancing as Suricata does which is symmetric hash based
on IP and L4 protocol, from Jesper.
7) Revert adding NULL pointer check with WARN_ON_ONCE() in __xdp_return()'s
critical path as it is ensured that the allocator is present, from Björn.

This patch allows a BPF_PROG_TYPE_SK_REUSEPORT bpf prog to select a
SO_REUSEPORT sk from a BPF_MAP_TYPE_REUSEPORT_ARRAY introduced in
the earlier patch. "bpf_run_sk_reuseport()" will return -ECONNREFUSED
when the BPF_PROG_TYPE_SK_REUSEPORT prog returns SK_DROP.
The callers, in inet[6]_hashtable.c and ipv[46]/udp.c, are modified to
handle this case and return NULL immediately instead of continuing the
sk search from its hashtable.
It re-uses the existing SO_ATTACH_REUSEPORT_EBPF setsockopt to attach
BPF_PROG_TYPE_SK_REUSEPORT. The "sk_reuseport_attach_bpf()" will check
if the attaching bpf prog is in the new SK_REUSEPORT or the existing
SOCKET_FILTER type and then check different things accordingly.
One level of "__reuseport_attach_prog()" call is removed. The
"sk_unhashed() && ..." and "sk->sk_reuseport_cb" tests are pushed
back to "reuseport_attach_prog()" in sock_reuseport.c. sock_reuseport.c
seems to have more knowledge on those test requirements than filter.c.
In "reuseport_attach_prog()", after new_prog is attached to reuse->prog,
the old_prog (if any) is also directly freed instead of returning the
old_prog to the caller and asking the caller to free.
The sysctl_optmem_max check is moved back to the
"sk_reuseport_attach_filter()" and "sk_reuseport_attach_bpf()".
As of other bpf prog types, the new BPF_PROG_TYPE_SK_REUSEPORT is only
bounded by the usual "bpf_prog_charge_memlock()" during load time
instead of bounded by both bpf_prog_charge_memlock and sysctl_optmem_max.

IPv6 GRO over GRE tap is not working while GRO is not set
over the native interface.
gro_list_prepare function updates the same_flow variable
of existing sessions to 1 if their mac headers match the one
of the incoming packet.
same_flow is used to filter out non-matching sessions and keep
potential ones for aggregation.
The number of bytes to compare should be the number of bytes
in the mac headers. In gro_list_prepare this number is set to
be skb->dev->hard_header_len. For GRE interfaces this hard_header_len
should be as it is set in the initialization process (when GRE is
created), it should not be overridden. But currently it is being overridden
by the value that is actually supposed to represent the needed_headroom.
Therefore, the number of bytes compared in order to decide whether the
the mac headers are the same is greater than the length of the headers.
As it's documented in netdevice.h, hard_header_len is the maximum
hardware header length, and needed_headroom is the extra headroom
the hardware may need.
hard_header_len is basically all the bytes received by the physical
till layer 3 header of the packet received by the interface.
For example, if the interface is a GRE tap then the needed_headroom
should be the total length of the following headers:
IP header of the physical, GRE header, mac header of GRE.
It is often used to calculate the MTU of the created interface.
This patch removes the override of the hard_header_len, and
assigns the calculated value to needed_headroom.
This way, the comparison in gro_list_prepare is really of
the mac headers, and if the packets have the same mac headers
the same_flow will be set to 1.

When using an ip6tnl device in collect_md mode, the xmit methods ignore
the ipv6.src field present in skb_tunnel_info's key, both for route
calculation purposes (flowi6 construction) and for assigning the
packet's final ipv6h->saddr.
This makes it impossible specifying a desired ipv6 local address in the
encapsulating header (for example, when using tc action tunnel_key).
This is also not aligned with behavior of ipip (ipv4) in collect_md
mode, where the key->u.ipv4.src gets used.
Fix, by assigning fl6.saddr with given key->u.ipv6.src.
In case ipv6.src is not specified, ip6_tnl_xmit uses existing saddr

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-08-07
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add cgroup local storage for BPF programs, which provides a fast
accessible memory for storing various per-cgroup data like number
of transmitted packets, etc, from Roman.
2) Support bpf_get_socket_cookie() BPF helper in several more program
types that have a full socket available, from Andrey.
3) Significantly improve the performance of perf events which are
reported from BPF offload. Also convert a couple of BPF AF_XDP
samples overto use libbpf, both from Jakub.
4) seg6local LWT provides the End.DT6 action, which allows to
decapsulate an outer IPv6 header containing a Segment Routing Header.
Adds this action now to the seg6local BPF interface, from Mathieu.
5) Do not mark dst register as unbounded in MOV64 instruction when
both src and dst register are the same, from Arthur.
6) Define u_smp_rmb() and u_smp_wmb() to their respective barrier
instructions on arm64 for the AF_XDP sample code, from Brian.
7) Convert the tcp_client.py and tcp_server.py BPF selftest scripts
over from Python 2 to Python 3, from Jeremy.
8) Enable BTF build flags to the BPF sample code Makefile, from Taeung.
9) Remove an unnecessary rcu_read_lock() in run_lwt_bpf(), from Taehee.
10) Several improvements to the README.rst from the BPF documentation
to make it more consistent with RST format, from Tobin.
11) Replace all occurrences of strerror() by calls to strerror_r()
in libbpf and fix a FORTIFY_SOURCE build error along with it,
from Thomas.
12) Fix a bug in bpftool's get_btf() function to correctly propagate
an error via PTR_ERR(), from Yue.

According to RFC791, 68 bytes is the minimum size of IPv4 datagram every
device must be able to forward without further fragmentation while 576
bytes is the minimum size of IPv4 datagram every device has to be able
to receive, so in ip6_tnl_xmit(), 68(IPV4_MIN_MTU) should be the right
value for the ipv4 min mtu check in ip6_tnl_xmit.
While at it, change to use max() instead of if statement.

All the callers of ip6_rt_copy_init()/rt6_set_from() hold refcnt
of the "from" fib6_info, so there is no need to hold fib6_metrics
refcnt again, because fib6_metrics refcnt is only released when
fib6_info is gone, that is, they have the same life time, so the
whole fib6_metrics refcnt can be removed actually.
This fixes a kmemleak warning reported by Sabrina.

don't bother with pathological cases, they only waste cycles.
IPv6 requires a minimum MTU of 1280 so we should never see fragments
smaller than this (except last frag).
v3: don't use awkward "-offset + len"
v2: drop IPv4 part, which added same check w. IPV4_MIN_MTU (68).
There were concerns that there could be even smaller frags
generated by intermediate nodes, e.g. on radio networks.

Similar to TCP OOO RX queue, it makes sense to use rb trees to store
IP fragments, so that OOO fragments are inserted faster.
Tested:
- a follow-up patch contains a rather comprehensive ip defrag
self-test (functional)
- ran neper `udp_stream -c -H <host> -F 100 -l 300 -T 20`:
netstat --statistics
Ip:
282078937 total packets received
0 forwarded
0 incoming packets discarded
946760 incoming packets delivered
18743456 requests sent out
101 fragments dropped after timeout
282077129 reassemblies required
944952 packets reassembled ok
262734239 packet reassembles failed
(The numbers/stats above are somewhat better re:

When a ICMPV6_PKT_TOOBIG is received from a link local address the pmtu will
be updated on a route with an arbitrary interface index. Subsequent packets
sent back to the same link local address may therefore end up not
considering the updated pmtu.
Current behavior breaks TAHI v6LC4.1.4 Reduce PMTU On-link. Referring to RFC

cases where a node "thinks" a destination is attached to the same link as

The seg6local LWT provides the End.DT6 action, which allows to
decapsulate an outer IPv6 header containing a Segment Routing Header
(SRH), full specification is available here:
https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-filsfils-spring-srv6-network-programming-05
This patch adds this action now to the seg6local BPF
interface. Since it is not mandatory that the inner IPv6 header also
contains a SRH, seg6_bpf_srh_state has been extended with a pointer to
a possible SRH of the outermost IPv6 header. This helps assessing if the
validation must be triggered or not, and avoids some calls to
ipv6_find_hdr.

pull request (net-next): ipsec-next 2018-07-27
1) Extend the output_mark to also support the input direction
and masking the mark values before applying to the skb.
2) Add a new lookup key for the upcomming xfrm interfaces.
3) Extend the xfrm lookups to match xfrm interface IDs.
4) Add virtual xfrm interfaces. The purpose of these interfaces
is to overcome the design limitations that the existing
VTI devices have.
The main limitations that we see with the current VTI are the
following:
VTI interfaces are L3 tunnels with configurable endpoints.
For xfrm, the tunnel endpoint are already determined by the SA.
So the VTI tunnel endpoints must be either the same as on the
SA or wildcards. In case VTI tunnel endpoints are same as on
the SA, we get a one to one correlation between the SA and
the tunnel. So each SA needs its own tunnel interface.
On the other hand, we can have only one VTI tunnel with
wildcard src/dst tunnel endpoints in the system because the
lookup is based on the tunnel endpoints. The existing tunnel
lookup won't work with multiple tunnels with wildcard
tunnel endpoints. Some usecases require more than on
VTI tunnel of this type, for example if somebody has multiple
namespaces and every namespace requires such a VTI.
VTI needs separate interfaces for IPv4 and IPv6 tunnels.
So when routing to a VTI, we have to know to which address
family this traffic class is going to be encapsulated.
This is a lmitation because it makes routing more complex
and it is not always possible to know what happens behind the
VTI, e.g. when the VTI is move to some namespace.
VTI works just with tunnel mode SAs. We need generic interfaces
that ensures transfomation, regardless of the xfrm mode and
the encapsulated address family.
VTI is configured with a combination GRE keys and xfrm marks.
With this we have to deal with some extra cases in the generic
tunnel lookup because the GRE keys on the VTI are actually
not GRE keys, the GRE keys were just reused for something else.
All extensions to the VTI interfaces would require to add
even more complexity to the generic tunnel lookup.
So to overcome this, we developed xfrm interfaces with the
following design goal:
It should be possible to tunnel IPv4 and IPv6 through the same
interface.
No limitation on xfrm mode (tunnel, transport and beet).
Should be a generic virtual interface that ensures IPsec
transformation, no need to know what happens behind the
interface.
Interfaces should be configured with a new key that must match a
new policy/SA lookup key.
The lookup logic should stay in the xfrm codebase, no need to
change or extend generic routing and tunnel lookups.
Should be possible to use IPsec hardware offloads of the underlying
interface.
5) Remove xfrm pcpu policy cache. This was added after the flowcache
removal, but it turned out to make things even worse.
From Florian Westphal.
6) Allow to update the set mark on SA updates.
From Nathan Harold.
7) Convert some timestamps to time64_t.
From Arnd Bergmann.
8) Don't check the offload_handle in xfrm code,
it is an opaque data cookie for the driver.
From Shannon Nelson.
9) Remove xfrmi interface ID from flowi. After this pach
no generic code is touched anymore to do xfrm interface
lookups. From Benedict Wong.
10) Allow to update the xfrm interface ID on SA updates.
From Nathan Harold.
11) Don't pass zero to ERR_PTR() in xfrm_resolve_and_create_bundle.

12) Return more detailed errors on xfrm interface creation.

The skb hash for locally generated ip[v6] fragments belonging
to the same datagram can vary in several circumstances:
* for connected UDP[v6] sockets, the first fragment get its hash
via set_owner_w()/skb_set_hash_from_sk()
* for unconnected IPv6 UDPv6 sockets, the first fragment can get
its hash via ip6_make_flowlabel()/skb_get_hash_flowi6(), if
auto_flowlabel is enabled
For the following frags the hash is usually computed via
skb_get_hash().
The above can cause OoO for unconnected IPv6 UDPv6 socket: in that
scenario the egress tx queue can be selected on a per packet basis
via the skb hash.
It may also fool flow-oriented schedulers to place fragments belonging
to the same datagram in different flows.
Fix the issue by copying the skb hash from the head frag into
the others at fragmentation time.

The other scenario is when a new socket join a group which was just delete

ssh 2001:db8:104::4
(NOTE: UDP works fine if the PKTINFO has the address set to the global

LLA).
For ICMP, icmp6_iif needs to be updated to check if skb->dev is an
L3 master. If it is then return the ifindex from rt6i_idev similar
to what is done for loopback.
For TCP, restore the original tcp_v6_iif definition which is needed in
most places and add a new tcp_v6_iif_l3_slave that considers the
l3_slave variability. This latter check is only needed for socket

The offload_handle should be an opaque data cookie for the driver
to use, much like the data cookie for a timer or alarm callback.
Thus, the XFRM stack should not be checking for non-zero, because
the driver might use that to store an array reference, which could
be zero, or some other zero but meaningful value.
We can remove the checks for non-zero because there are plenty
other attributes also being checked to see if there is an offload
in place for the SA in question.

eg.,
$ ip -6 route add 2001:db8:1::/64 nexthop dev eth0 nexthop dev eth1
only generates a single notification:
2001:db8:1::/64 dev eth0 metric 1024 pref medium
While working on a fix for this problem I found another case that is just
broken completely - a multipath route with a gateway followed by device
followed by gateway:
$ ip -6 ro add 2001:db8:103::/64
nexthop via 2001:db8:1::64
nexthop dev dummy2
nexthop via 2001:db8:3::64
In this case the device only route is dropped completely - no notification
to userpsace but no addition to the FIB either:
$ ip -6 ro ls
2001:db8:1::/64 dev dummy1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:2::/64 dev dummy2 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:3::/64 dev dummy3 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
2001:db8:103::/64 metric 1024
nexthop via 2001:db8:1::64 dev dummy1 weight 1
nexthop via 2001:db8:3::64 dev dummy3 weight 1 pref medium
fe80::/64 dev dummy1 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
fe80::/64 dev dummy2 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
fe80::/64 dev dummy3 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
Really, IPv6 multipath is just FUBAR'ed beyond repair when it comes to
device only routes, so do not allow it all.
This change will break any scripts relying on the mpath api for insert,
but I don't see any other way to handle the permutations. Besides, since
the routes are added to the FIB as standalone (non-multipath) routes the
kernel is not doing what the user requested, so it might as well tell the
user that.
