As Trond pointed out, you can currently deadlock yourself by setting a
file-private lock on a file that requires mandatory locking and then
trying to do I/O on it.
Avoid this problem by plumbing some knowledge of file-private locks into
the mandatory locking code. In order to do this, we must pass down
information about the struct file that's being used to
locks_verify_locked.

Due to some unfortunate history, POSIX locks have very strange and
unhelpful semantics. The thing that usually catches people by surprise
is that they are dropped whenever the process closes any file descriptor
associated with the inode.
This is extremely problematic for people developing file servers that
need to implement byte-range locks. Developers often need a "lock
management" facility to ensure that file descriptors are not closed
until all of the locks associated with the inode are finished.
Additionally, "classic" POSIX locks are owned by the process. Locks
taken between threads within the same process won't conflict with one
another, which renders them useless for synchronization between threads.
This patchset adds a new type of lock that attempts to address these
issues. These locks conflict with classic POSIX read/write locks, but
have semantics that are more like BSD locks with respect to inheritance
and behavior on close.
This is implemented primarily by changing how fl_owner field is set for
these locks. Instead of having them owned by the files_struct of the
process, they are instead owned by the filp on which they were acquired.
Thus, they are inherited across fork() and are only released when the
last reference to a filp is put.
These new semantics prevent them from being merged with classic POSIX
locks, even if they are acquired by the same process. These locks will
also conflict with classic POSIX locks even if they are acquired by
the same process or on the same file descriptor.
The new locks are managed using a new set of cmd values to the fcntl()
syscall. The initial implementation of this converts these values to
"classic" cmd values at a fairly high level, and the details are not
exposed to the underlying filesystem. We may eventually want to push
this handing out to the lower filesystem code but for now I don't
see any need for it.
Also, note that with this implementation the new cmd values are only
available via fcntl64() on 32-bit arches. There's little need to
add support for legacy apps on a new interface like this.

In a later patch, we'll be adding a new type of lock that's owned by
the struct file instead of the files_struct. Those sorts of locks
will be flagged with a new FL_FILE_PVT flag.
Report these types of locks as "FLPVT" in /proc/locks to distinguish
them from "classic" POSIX locks.

This function currently removes leases in addition to flock locks and in
a later patch we'll have it deal with file-private locks too. Rename it
to locks_remove_file to indicate that it removes locks that are
associated with a particular struct file, and not just flock locks.

In the 32-bit case fcntl assigns the 64-bit f_pos and i_size to a 32-bit
off_t.
The existing range checks also seem to depend on signed arithmetic
wrapping when it overflows. In practice maybe that works, but we can be
more careful. That also allows us to make a more reliable distinction
between -EINVAL and -EOVERFLOW.
Note that in the 32-bit case SEEK_CUR or SEEK_END might allow the caller
to set a lock with starting point no longer representable as a 32-bit
value. We could return -EOVERFLOW in such cases, but the locks code is
capable of handling such ranges, so we choose to be lenient here. The
only problem is that subsequent GETLK calls on such a lock will fail
with EOVERFLOW.
While we're here, do some cleanup including consolidating code for the
flock and flock64 cases.

As Al Viro points out, there is an unlikely, but possible race between
opening a file and setting a lease on it. generic_add_lease is done with
the i_lock held, but the inode->i_flock check in break_lease is
lockless. It's possible for another task doing an open to do the entire
pathwalk and call break_lease between the point where generic_add_lease
checks for a conflicting open and adds the lease to the list. If this
occurs, we can end up with a lease set on the file with a conflicting
open.
To guard against that, check again for a conflicting open after adding
the lease to the i_flock list. If the above race occurs, then we can
simply unwind the lease setting and return -EAGAIN.
Because we take dentry references and acquire write access on the file
before calling break_lease, we know that if the i_flock list is empty
when the open caller goes to check it then the necessary refcounts have
already been incremented. Thus the additional check for a conflicting
open will see that there is one and the setlease call will fail.

A few more updates from last week - use of the tdm_slot mapping from

This patch replaces/reworks the kernel-internal BPF interpreter with
an optimized BPF instruction set format that is modelled closer to
mimic native instruction sets and is designed to be JITed with one to
one mapping. Thus, the new interpreter is noticeably faster than the
current implementation of sk_run_filter(); mainly for two reasons:
1. Fall-through jumps:
BPF jump instructions are forced to go either 'true' or 'false'
branch which causes branch-miss penalty. The new BPF jump
instructions have only one branch and fall-through otherwise,
which fits the CPU branch predictor logic better. `perf stat`
shows drastic difference for branch-misses between the old and
new code.
2. Jump-threaded implementation of interpreter vs switch
statement:
Instead of single table-jump at the top of 'switch' statement,
gcc will now generate multiple table-jump instructions, which
helps CPU branch predictor logic.
Note that the verification of filters is still being done through
sk_chk_filter() in classical BPF format, so filters from user- or
kernel space are verified in the same way as we do now, and same
restrictions/constraints hold as well.
We reuse current BPF JIT compilers in a way that this upgrade would
even be fine as is, but nevertheless allows for a successive upgrade
of BPF JIT compilers to the new format.
The internal instruction set migration is being done after the
probing for JIT compilation, so in case JIT compilers are able to
create a native opcode image, we're going to use that, and in all
other cases we're doing a follow-up migration of the BPF program's
instruction set, so that it can be transparently run in the new
interpreter.
In short, the *internal* format extends BPF in the following way (more
details can be taken from the appended documentation):
- Number of registers increase from 2 to 10
- Register width increases from 32-bit to 64-bit
- Conditional jt/jf targets replaced with jt/fall-through
- Adds signed > and >= insns
- 16 4-byte stack slots for register spill-fill replaced

Thus, without changing any userland BPF filters, applications on
top of AF_PACKET (or other families) such as libpcap/tcpdump, cls_bpf
classifier, netfilter's xt_bpf, team driver's load-balancing mode,
and many more will have better interpreter filtering performance.
While we are replacing the internal BPF interpreter, we also need
to convert seccomp BPF in the same step to make use of the new
internal structure since it makes use of lower-level API details
without being further decoupled through higher-level calls like
sk_unattached_filter_{create,destroy}(), for example.
Just as for normal socket filtering, also seccomp BPF experiences
a time-to-verdict speedup:

BPF filters generated by seccomp are very branchy, so the new
internal BPF performance is better than the old one. Performance
gains will be even higher when BPF JIT is committed for the
new structure, which is planned in future work (as successive
JIT migrations).
BPF has also been stress-tested with trinity's BPF fuzzer.

Similarly as in ppp, we need to migrate the ISDN/PPP code to make use
of the sk_unattached_filter api in order to decouple having direct
filter structure access. By using sk_unattached_filter_{create,destroy},
we can allow for the possibility to jit compile filters for faster
filter verdicts as well.

There are currently pch_gbe, cpts, and ixp4xx_eth drivers that open-code
and reimplement a BPF classifier for the PTP protocol. Since all of them
effectively do the very same thing and load the very same PTP/BPF filter,
we can just consolidate that code by introducing ptp_classify_raw() in
the time-stamping core framework which can be used in drivers.
As drivers get initialized after bootstrapping the core networking
subsystem, they can make use of ptp_insns wrapped through
ptp_classify_raw(), which allows to simplify and remove PTP classifier
setup code in drivers.

This patch migrates an open-coded sk_run_filter() implementation with
proper use of the BPF API, that is, sk_unattached_filter_create(). This
migration is needed, as we will be internally transforming the filter
to a different representation, and therefore needs to be decoupled.
It is okay to do so as skb_timestamping_init() is called during
initialization of the network stack in core initcall via sock_init().
This would effectively also allow for PTP filters to be jit compiled if
bpf_jit_enable is set.
For better readability, there are also some newlines introduced, also
ptp_classify.h is only in kernel space.

This patch basically does two things, i) removes the extern keyword
from the include/linux/filter.h file to be more consistent with the
rest of Joe's changes, and ii) moves filter accounting into the filter
core framework.
Filter accounting mainly done through sk_filter_{un,}charge() take
care of the case when sockets are being cloned through sk_clone_lock()
so that removal of the filter on one socket won't result in eviction
as it's still referenced by the other.
These functions actually belong to net/core/filter.c and not
include/net/sock.h as we want to keep all that in a central place.
It's also not in fast-path so uninlining them is fine and even allows
us to get rd of sk_filter_release_rcu()'s EXPORT_SYMBOL and a forward
declaration.

In order to open up the possibility to internally transform a BPF program
into an alternative and possibly non-trivial reversible representation, we
need to keep the original BPF program around, so that it can be passed back
to user space w/o the need of a complex decoder.
The reason for that use case resides in commit a8fc927780 ("sk-filter:
Add ability to get socket filter program (v2)"), that is, the ability
to retrieve the currently attached BPF filter from a given socket used
mainly by the checkpoint-restore project, for example.
Therefore, we add two helpers sk_{store,release}_orig_filter for taking
care of that. In the sk_unattached_filter_create() case, there's no such
possibility/requirement to retrieve a loaded BPF program. Therefore, we
can spare us the work in that case.
This approach will simplify and slightly speed up both, sk_get_filter()
and sock_diag_put_filterinfo() handlers as we won't need to successively
decode filters anymore through sk_decode_filter(). As we still need
sk_decode_filter() later on, we're keeping it around.

This patch adds a jited flag into sk_filter struct in order to indicate
whether a filter is currently jited or not. The size of sk_filter is
not being expanded as the 32 bit 'len' member allows upper bits to be
reused since a filter can currently only grow as large as BPF_MAXINSNS.
Therefore, there's enough room also for other in future needed flags to
reuse 'len' field if necessary. The jited flag also allows for having
alternative interpreter functions running as currently, we can only
detect jit compiled filters by testing fp->bpf_func to not equal the
address of sk_run_filter().

Use cmpxchg() to atomically set i_flags instead of clearing out the
S_IMMUTABLE, S_APPEND, etc. flags and then setting them from the
EXT4_IMMUTABLE_FL, EXT4_APPEND_FL flags, since this opens up a race
where an immutable file has the immutable flag cleared for a brief
window of time.

Stop taking the transmit lock when a network device has specified
NETIF_F_LLTX.
If no locks needed to trasnmit a packet this is the ideal scenario for
netpoll as all packets can be trasnmitted immediately.
Even if some locks are needed in ndo_start_xmit skipping any unnecessary
serialization is desirable for netpoll as it makes it more likely a
debugging packet may be trasnmitted immediately instead of being
deferred until later.

skb_network_protocol() already accounts for multiple vlan
headers that may be present in the skb. However, skb_mac_gso_segment()
doesn't know anything about it and assumes that skb->mac_len
is set correctly to skip all mac headers. That may not
always be the case. If we are simply forwarding the packet (via
bridge or macvtap), all vlan headers may not be accounted for.
A simple solution is to allow skb_network_protocol to return
the vlan depth it has calculated. This way skb_mac_gso_segment
will correctly skip all mac headers.

addrconf_join_solict and addrconf_join_anycast may cause actions which
need rtnl locked, especially on first address creation.
A new DAD state is introduced which defers processing of the initial
DAD processing into a workqueue.
To get rtnl lock we need to push the code paths which depend on those
calls up to workqueues, specifically addrconf_verify and the DAD
processing.

addrconf_dad_failure needs to be queued up to the workqueue, too. This
patch introduces a new DAD state and stop the DAD processing in the
workqueue (this is because of the possible ipv6_del_addr processing
which removes the solicited multicast address from the device).
addrconf_verify_lock is removed, too. After the transition it is not
needed any more.
As we are not processing in bottom half anymore we need to be a bit more
careful about disabling bottom half out when we lock spin_locks which are also
used in bh.

Dropping packets in __dev_queue_xmit() when transmit queue
is stopped (NIC TX ring buffer full or BQL limit reached) currently
outputs a syslog message.
It would be better to get a precise count of such events available in
netdevice stats so that monitoring tools can have a clue.

Remove dm_get_mapinfo() because no target uses it. Targets can allocate
per-bio data using ti->per_bio_data_size, this is much more flexible
than union map_info.
Leave union map_info only for the request-based multipath target's use.
Also delete the unused "unsigned long long ll" field of union map_info.

skb_zerocopy can copy elements of the frags array between skbs, but it doesn't
orphan them. Also, it doesn't handle errors, so this patch takes care of that
as well, and modify the callers accordingly. skb_tx_error() is also added to
the callers so they will signal the failed delivery towards the creator of the
skb.

If an IPv6 host route with metrics exists, an attempt to add a
new route for the same target with different metrics fails but
rewrites the metrics anyway:

This is caused by all IPv6 host routes using the metrics in
their inetpeer (or the shared default). This also holds for the
new route created in ip6_route_add() which shares the metrics
with the already existing route and thus ip6_route_add()
rewrites the metrics even if the new route ends up not being
used at all.
Another problem is that old metrics in inetpeer can reappear
unexpectedly for a new route, e.g.

Resolve the first problem by moving the setting of metrics down
into fib6_add_rt2node() to the point we are sure we are
inserting the new route into the tree. Second problem is
addressed by introducing new flag DST_METRICS_FORCE_OVERWRITE
which is set for a new host route in ip6_route_add() and makes
ipv6_cow_metrics() always overwrite the metrics in inetpeer
(even if they are not "new"); it is reset after that.

This allows drivers to specify the size of their per-command private
data in the host template and then get extra memory allocated for
each command instead of needing another allocation in ->queuecommand.
With the current SCSI code that already does multiple allocations for
each command this probably doesn't make a big performance impact, but
it allows to clean up the drivers, and prepare them for using the
blk-mq infrastructure where the common allocation will make a difference.

We don't use the passed in scsi command for anything, so just add a adapter-
wide internal status to go along with the internal scb that is used unter
int_mtx to pass back the return value and get rid of all the complexities
and abuse of the scsi_cmnd structure.
This gets rid of the only user of scsi_allocate_command/scsi_free_command,
which can now be removed.

EVPD page 0x83 is used to uniquely identify the device.
So instead of having each and every program issue a separate
SG_IO call to retrieve this information it does make far more
sense to display it in sysfs.
Some older devices (most notably tapes) will only report reliable
information in page 0x80 (Unit Serial Number). So export this
in the sysfs attribute 'vpd_pg80'.

The packet hash can be considered a property of the packet, not just
on RX path.
This patch changes name of rxhash and l4_rxhash skbuff fields to be
hash and l4_hash respectively. This includes changing uses of the
field in the code which don't call the access functions.

Whenever we change the frequency of a CPU, we call the PRECHANGE and POSTCHANGE
notifiers. They must be serialized, i.e. PRECHANGE and POSTCHANGE notifiers
should strictly alternate, thereby preventing two different sets of PRECHANGE or
POSTCHANGE notifiers from interleaving arbitrarily.
The following examples illustrate why this is important:
Scenario 1:
-----------
A thread reading the value of cpuinfo_cur_freq, will call
__cpufreq_cpu_get()->cpufreq_out_of_sync()->cpufreq_notify_transition()
The ondemand governor can decide to change the frequency of the CPU at the same
time and hence it can end up sending the notifications via ->target().
If the notifiers are not serialized, the following sequence can occur:
- PRECHANGE Notification for freq A (from cpuinfo_cur_freq)
- PRECHANGE Notification for freq B (from target())
- Freq changed by target() to B
- POSTCHANGE Notification for freq B
- POSTCHANGE Notification for freq A
We can see from the above that the last POSTCHANGE Notification happens for freq
A but the hardware is set to run at freq B.
Where would we break then?: adjust_jiffies() in cpufreq.c & cpufreq_callback()
in arch/arm/kernel/smp.c (which also adjusts the jiffies). All the
loops_per_jiffy calculations will get messed up.
Scenario 2:
-----------
The governor calls __cpufreq_driver_target() to change the frequency. At the
same time, if we change scaling_{min|max}_freq from sysfs, it will end up
calling the governor's CPUFREQ_GOV_LIMITS notification, which will also call
__cpufreq_driver_target(). And hence we end up issuing concurrent calls to
->target().
Typically, platforms have the following logic in their ->target() routines:
(Eg: cpufreq-cpu0, omap, exynos, etc)
A. If new freq is more than old: Increase voltage
B. Change freq
C. If new freq is less than old: decrease voltage
Now, if the two concurrent calls to ->target() are X and Y, where X is trying to
increase the freq and Y is trying to decrease it, we get the following race
condition:
X.A: voltage gets increased for larger freq
Y.A: nothing happens
Y.B: freq gets decreased
Y.C: voltage gets decreased
X.B: freq gets increased
X.C: nothing happens
Thus we can end up setting a freq which is not supported by the voltage we have
set. That will probably make the clock to the CPU unstable and the system might
not work properly anymore.
This patch introduces a set of synchronization primitives to serialize frequency
transitions, which are to be used as shown below:
cpufreq_freq_transition_begin();
//Perform the frequency change
cpufreq_freq_transition_end();
The _begin() call sends the PRECHANGE notification whereas the _end() call sends
the POSTCHANGE notification. Also, all the necessary synchronization is handled
within these calls. In particular, even drivers which set the ASYNC_NOTIFICATION
flag can also use these APIs for performing frequency transitions (ie., you can
call _begin() from one task, and call the corresponding _end() from a different
task).
The actual synchronization underneath is not that complicated:
The key challenge is to allow drivers to begin the transition from one thread
and end it in a completely different thread (this is to enable drivers that do
asynchronous POSTCHANGE notification from bottom-halves, to also use the same
interface).
To achieve this, a 'transition_ongoing' flag, a 'transition_lock' spinlock and a
wait-queue are added per-policy. The flag and the wait-queue are used in
conjunction to create an "uninterrupted flow" from _begin() to _end(). The
spinlock is used to ensure that only one such "flow" is in flight at any given
time. Put together, this provides us all the necessary synchronization.

This change adds support to automatically mark a control method as
"serialized" if the method creates any named objects. This will
positively prevent the method from being entered by more than one
thread and thus preventing a possible abort when an attempt is
made to create an object twice.
Implemented by parsing all non-serialize control methods at table
load time.
This feature is disabled by default and this patch also adds a new
Linux kernel parameter "acpi_auto_serialize" to allow this feature
to be turned on for a specific boot.

According to the reports, the "acpi_serialize" mechanism is broken as:
A. The parallel method calls can still happen when the interpreter lock is
released under the following conditions:
1. External callbacks are invoked, for example, by the region handlers,
the exception handlers, etc.;
2. Module level execution is performed when Load/LoadTable opcodes are
executed, and
3. The _REG control methods are invoked to complete the region
registrations.
B. For the following situations, the interpreter lock need to be released
even for a serialized method while currently, the lock-releasing
operation is marked as a no-op by
acpi_ex_relinquish/reacquire_interpreter() when this mechanism is
enabled:
1. Wait opcode is executed,
2. Acquire opcode is executed, and
3. Sleep opcode is executed.
This patch removes this mechanism and the internal
acpi_ex_relinquish/reacquire_interpreter() APIs. Lv Zheng.

This provides a function gpiochip_irqchip_add() to set
up an irqchip for a GPIO controller, and a function
gpiochip_set_chained_irqchip() to chain it to a parent
irqchip.
Most GPIOs are of the type where a number of lines form
a cascaded interrupt controller chained onto
the primary system interrupt controller (or further down the
chain) so let's add this helper and factor the code to
request the lines to be used as IRQs, the .to_irq() function
and the irqdomain into the core as well.

This is mostly a few additional fixes from Lars-Peter, a new driver and
cleaning up a git failure with merging the Intel branch (combined with

Replace kfree_skb with dev_kfree_skb_any in vlan_insert_tag as
vlan_insert_tag can be called from hard irq context (netpoll)
and from other contexts.
dev_kfree_skb_any is used as vlan_insert_tag only frees the skb if the
skb can not be modified to insert a tag, in which case vlan_insert_tag
drops the skb.

Use cmpxchg() to atomically set i_flags instead of clearing out the
S_IMMUTABLE, S_APPEND, etc. flags and then setting them from the
EXT4_IMMUTABLE_FL, EXT4_APPEND_FL flags, since this opens up a race
where an immutable file has the immutable flag cleared for a brief
window of time.

It's not only for PCI devices any more, and the scope information for an
ACPI device provides the bus and devfn so that has to be stored here too.
It is the device pointer itself which needs to be protected with RCU,
so the __rcu annotation follows it into the definition of struct
dmar_dev_scope, since we're no longer just passing arrays of device
pointers around.

When changing one 16bit value by another in IP header, we can adjust
the IP checksum by doing a simple operation described in RFC 1624, as
reminded by David.
csum_partial() is a complex function on x86_64, not really suited for
small number of checksummed bytes.
I spotted csum_partial() being in the top 20 most consuming functions
(more than 1 %) in a GRO workload, which was rather unexpected.
The caller was inet_gro_complete() doing a csum_replace2() when
building the new IP header for the GRO packet.

This patch adds a pair of new ioctls to the PTP Hardware Clock device
interface. Using the ioctls, user space programs can query each pin to
find out its current function and also reprogram a different function
if desired.

Tracepoint: Dissociate from module mutex
The following functions became unnecessary:
- tracepoint_probe_register_noupdate,
- tracepoint_probe_unregister_noupdate,
- tracepoint_probe_update_all.
In fact, none of the in-kernel tracers, nor LTTng, nor SystemTAP use
them. Remove those.
Moreover, the functions:
- tracepoint_iter_start,
- tracepoint_iter_next,
- tracepoint_iter_stop,
- tracepoint_iter_reset.
are unused by in-kernel tracers, LTTng and SystemTAP. Remove those too.

The functions declared in include/linux/pxa2xx_ssp.h are
defined in plat-pxa/ssp.c, which can also be built for
PLAT_MMP, but may be disabled there. This can lead to
both unresolved symbols at link time and to duplicate
symbols at compile time for random configurations.
Changing the #ifdef in the header file to match the
Kconfig symbol that decides if the file is built solves
both problems.

I originally wrote commit 35bb4399bd to shrink the size of the overhead of
tracepoints by several kilobytes. Later, I received a patch from Vaibhav
Nagarnaik that fixed a bug in the same code that this commit touches. Not
only did it fix a bug, it also removed code and shrunk the size of the
overhead of trace events even more than this commit did.
Since this commit is scheduled for 3.15 and Vaibhav's patch is already in
mainline, I need to revert this patch in order to keep it from conflicting
with Vaibhav's patch. Not to mention, Vaibhav's patch makes this patch
obsolete.

The maximum number for irq routes is currently 1024, which is a bit on
the small size for s390: We support up to 4 x 64k virtual devices with
up to 64 queues, and we need one route for each of the queues if we want
to operate it via irqfd.
Let's bump this to 4k on s390 for now, as this at least covers the saner
setups.
We need to find a more general solution, though, as we can't just grow
the routing table indefinitly.

Add remove_linear_migration_ptes_from_nonlinear(), to fix an interesting
little include/linux/swapops.h:131 BUG_ON(!PageLocked) found by trinity:
indicating that remove_migration_ptes() failed to find one of the
migration entries that was temporarily inserted.
The problem comes from remap_file_pages()'s switch from vma_interval_tree
(good for inserting the migration entry) to i_mmap_nonlinear list (no good
for locating it again); but can only be a problem if the remap_file_pages()
range does not cover the whole of the vma (zap_pte() clears the range).
remove_migration_ptes() needs a file_nonlinear method to go down the
i_mmap_nonlinear list, applying linear location to look for migration
entries in those vmas too, just in case there was this race.
The file_nonlinear method does need rmap_walk_control.arg to do this;
but it never needed vma passed in - vma comes from its own iteration.

Since most of the btrfs_workqueue is printed as pointer address,
for easier analysis, add trace for btrfs_workqueue alloc/destroy.
So it is possible to determine the workqueue that a given work belongs
to(by comparing the wq pointer address with alloc trace event).

The following pattern is currently not well supported by RCU:
1. Make data element inaccessible to RCU readers.
2. Do work that probably lasts for more than one grace period.
3. Do something to make sure RCU readers in flight before #1 above
have completed.
Here are some things that could currently be done:
a. Do a synchronize_rcu() unconditionally at either #1 or #3 above.
This works, but imposes needless work and latency.
b. Post an RCU callback at #1 above that does a wakeup, then
wait for the wakeup at #3. This works well, but likely results
in an extra unneeded grace period. Open-coding this is also
a bit more semi-tricky code than would be good.
This commit therefore adds get_state_synchronize_rcu() and
cond_synchronize_rcu() APIs. Call get_state_synchronize_rcu() at #1
above and pass its return value to cond_synchronize_rcu() at #3 above.
This results in a call to synchronize_rcu() if no grace period has
elapsed between #1 and #3, but requires only a load, comparison, and
memory barrier if a full grace period did elapse.

According to "Universal Serial Bus Communications Class Subclass
Specification for Mobile Broadband Interface Model, Revision 1.0,
Errata-1" published by USB-IF, the wMTU field of the MBIM extended
functional descriptor indicates the operator preferred MTU for IP data
streams.
This patch modifies cdc_ncm_setup to ensure that the MTU value set on
the usbnet device does not exceed the operator preferred MTU indicated
by wMTU if the MBIM device exposes a MBIM extended functional
descriptor.

While it is true that getnstimeofday() uses about 40 cycles if TSC
is available, it can use 1600 cycles if hpet is the clocksource.
Switch to get_jiffies_64(), as this is more than enough, and
go back to 60 seconds periods.

Adds support for N-Port VFs, this includes:
1. Adding support in the wrapped FW command
In wrapped commands, we need to verify and convert
the slave's port into the real physical port.
Furthermore, when sending the response back to the slave,
a reverse conversion should be made.
2. Adjusting sqpn for QP1 para-virtualization
The slave assumes that sqpn is used for QP1 communication.
If the slave is assigned to a port != (first port), we need
to adjust the sqpn that will direct its QP1 packets into the
correct endpoint.
3. Adjusting gid[5] to modify the port for raw ethernet
In B0 steering, gid[5] contains the port. It needs
to be adjusted into the physical port.
4. Adjusting number of ports in the query / ports caps in the FW commands
When a slave queries the hardware, it needs to view only
the physical ports it's assigned to.
5. Adjusting the sched_qp according to the port number
The QP port is encoded in the sched_qp, thus in modify_qp we need
to encode the correct port in sched_qp.

In event format strings, the array size is reported in two locations.
One in array subscript and then via the "size:" attribute. The values
reported there have a mismatch.
For e.g., in sched:sched_switch the prev_comm and next_comm character
arrays have subscript values as [32] where as the actual field size is

After bisection, the following commit was blamed:
92edca0 tracing: Use direct field, type and system names
This commit removes the duplication of strings for field->name and
field->type assuming that all the strings passed in
__trace_define_field() are immutable. This is not true for arrays, where
the type string is created in event_storage variable and field->type for
all array fields points to event_storage.
Use __stringify() to create a string constant for the type string.
Also, get rid of event_storage and event_storage_mutex that are not
needed anymore.

There are only two users of get_nohz_timer_target(): timer and hrtimer. Both
call it under same circumstances, i.e.

The passkey_notify and user_confirm functions in mgmt.c were expecting
different endianess for the passkey, leading to a big endian bug and
sparse warning in recently added SMP code. This patch converts both
functions to expect host endianess and do the conversion to little
endian only when assigning to the mgmt event struct.

This callback allows the driver to do clean up before the CPU is
completely down and its state cannot be modified. This is used
by the intel_pstate driver to reduce the requested P state prior to
the core going away. This is required because the requested P state
of the offline core is used to select the package P state. This
effectively sets the floor package P state to the requested P state on
the offline core.

helper routine'), the return value of ->runtime_idle() is no longer
ignored by the PM core, but used to decide whether to suspend the
device or not.

Upcoming Intel silicon adds a new RDSEED instruction, which is similar
to RDRAND but provides a stronger guarantee: unlike RDRAND, RDSEED
will always reseed the PRNG from the true random number source between
each read. Thus, the output of RDSEED is guaranteed to be 100%
entropic, unlike RDRAND which is only architecturally guaranteed to be
1/512 entropic (although in practice is much more.)
The RDSEED instruction takes the same time to execute as RDRAND, but
RDSEED unlike RDRAND can legitimately return failure (CF=0) due to
entropy exhaustion if too many threads on too many cores are hammering
the RDSEED instruction at the same time. Therefore, we have to be
more conservative and only use it in places where we can tolerate
failures.
This patch introduces the primitives arch_get_random_seed_{int,long}()
but does not use it yet.

BLK_MQ_F_* flags are for hctx->flags, and are non-atomic and
set at registration time. BLK_MQ_S_* flags are dynamic and
atomic, and are accessed through hctx->state.
Some of the BLK_MQ_S_STOPPED uses were wrong. Additionally,
the header file should not use a bit shift for the _S_ flags,
as they are done through the set/test_bit functions.

The pci_bus_alloc_resource() "type_mask" parameter is used to compare with
the "flags" member of a struct resource, so it should be the same type,
namely "unsigned long".
No functional change because all current IORESOURCE_* flags fit in 32 bits.

Commit bc6e7c4b0d "libata, libsas: kill pm_result and related cleanup"
renamed ata_sas_port_async_resume() to ata_sas_port_resume(), but missed
a CONFIG_PM=n stub conversion. Randy fixed that up in commit

On 2.4Ghz band, the channels overlap since the delta
between different channels is 5Mhz while the width of the
receiver is 20Mhz (at least).
This means that we can hear beacons or probe responses from
adjacent channels. These frames will have a significant
lower RSSI which will feed all kinds of logic with inaccurate
data. An obvious example is the roaming algorithm that will
think our AP is getting weak and will try to move to another
AP.
In order to avoid this, update the signal only if the frame
has been heard on the same channel as the one advertised by
the AP in its DS / HT IEs.
We refrain from updating the values only if the AP is
already in the BSS list so that we will still have a valid
(but inaccurate) value if the AP was heard on an adjacent
channel only.
To achieve this, stop taking the channel from DS / HT IEs
in mac80211. The DS / HT IEs is taken into account to
discard the frame if it was received on a disabled channel.
This can happen due to the same phenomenon: the frame is
sent on channel 12, but heard on channel 11 while channel
12 can be disabled on certain devices. Since this check
is done in cfg80211, stop even checking this in mac80211.

Drivers might want to have private data in addition
to all other ieee80211_tx_info.status fields.
The current ieee80211_tx_info.rate_driver_data overlaps
with some of the non-rate data (e.g. ampdu_ack_len), so
it might not be good enough.
Since we already know how much free bytes remained,
simply use this size to define (void *) array.
While on it, change ack_signal type from int to the more
explicit s32 type.

After the move to having device nodes be proper kobjects the lifecycle
of the node needs to be controlled better.
At first convert of_add_node() in the unflattened functions to
of_init_node() which initializes the kobject so that of_node_get/put
work correctly even before of_init is called.
Afterwards introduce of_node_is_initialized & of_node_is_attached that
query the underlying kobject about the state (attached means kobj
is visible in sysfs)
Using that make sure the lifecycle of the tree is correct at all
times.

cgrp_dfl_root will be used as the default unified hierarchy. This
patch makes cgrp_dfl_root mountable by making the following changes.
* cgroup_init_early() now initializes cgrp_dfl_root w/
CGRP_ROOT_SANE_BEHAVIOR. The default hierarchy is always sane.
* parse_cgroupfs_options() and cgroup_mount() are updated such that
cgrp_dfl_root is mounted if sane_behavior is specified w/o any
subsystems.
* rebind_subsystems() now populates the root directory of
cgrp_dfl_root. Note that the function still guarantees success of
rebinding subsystems to cgrp_dfl_root. If populating fails while
rebinding to cgrp_dfl_root, it whines but ignores the error.
* For backward compatibility, the default hierarchy shows up in
/proc/$PID/cgroup only after it's explicitly mounted so that
userland which doesn't make use of it doesn't see any change.
* "current_css_set_cg_links" file of debug cgroup now treats the
default hierarchy the same as other hierarchies. This is visible to
userland. Given that it's for debug controller, this should be
fine.
* While at it, implement cgroup_on_dfl() which tests whether a give
cgroup is on the default hierarchy or not.
The above changes make cgrp_dfl_root mostly equivalent to other
controllers but the actual unified hierarchy behaviors are not
implemented yet. Let's plug child cgroup creation in cgrp_dfl_root
from create_cgroup() for now.

cftype->write_string() just passes on the writeable buffer from kernfs
and there's no reason to add const restriction on the buffer. The
only thing const achieves is unnecessarily complicating parsing of the
buffer. Drop const from @buffer.

cgroupfs_root->subsys_mask represents the controllers attached to the
hierarchy. This patch moves the field to cgroup. Subsystem
initialization and rebinding updates the top cgroup's subsys_mask.
For !root cgroups, the subsys_mask bits are set from create_css() and
cleared from kill_css(), which effectively means that all cgroups will
have the same subsys_mask as the top cgroup.
While this doesn't make any difference now, this will help
implementation of the default unified hierarchy where !root cgroups
may have subsets of the top_cgroup's subsys_mask.
While at it, __kill_css() is split out of kill_css(). The former
doesn't care about the subsys_mask while the latter becomes noop if
the controller is already killed and clears the matching bit if not
before proceeding to killing the css. This will be used later by the
default unified hierarchy implementation.

Introduce new FALLOC_FL_ZERO_RANGE flag for fallocate. This has the same
functionality as xfs ioctl XFS_IOC_ZERO_RANGE.
It can be used to convert a range of file to zeros preferably without
issuing data IO. Blocks should be preallocated for the regions that span
holes in the file, and the entire range is preferable converted to
unwritten extents
This can be also used to preallocate blocks past EOF in the same way as
with fallocate. Flag FALLOC_FL_KEEP_SIZE which should cause the inode
size to remain the same.
Also add appropriate tracepoints.

The only libata user that actually cares about the result from a suspend
operation is libsas. However, it only cares about whether queuing a new
operation collides with an in-flight one. All libsas does with the
error is retry, but we can just let libata wait for the previous
operation before continuing.
Other cleanups include:
1/ Unifying all ata port pm operations on an ata_port_pm_ prefix
2/ Marking all ata port pm helper routines as returning void, only
ata_port_pm_ entry points need to fake a 0 return value.
3/ Killing ata_port_{suspend|resume}_common() in favor of calling
ata_port_request_pm() directly
4/ Killing the wrappers that just do a to_ata_port() conversion
5/ Clearly marking the entry points that do async operations with an
_async suffix.

The _install_special_mapping() is the new base function for
install_special_mapping(). This function will return a pointer of the
created VMA or a error code in an ERR_PTR()
This new function will be needed by the for the vdso 32 bit support to map the
additonal vvar and hpet pages into the 32 bit address space. This will be done
with io_remap_pfn_range() and remap_pfn_range, which requieres a vm_area_struct.

This is a context modified revert of commit 6a9612e2cb
("net: cdc_ncm: remove ncm_parm field") which introduced
a NCM specification violation, causing setup errors for
some devices. These errors resulted in the device and
host disagreeing about shared settings, with complete
failure to communicate as the end result.
The NCM specification require that many of the NCM specific
control reuests are sent only while the NCM Data Interface
is in alternate setting 0. Reverting the commit ensures that
we follow this requirement.

On xen_acpi_processor_resume() we call various procedures, which are

Add support for MSI message groups for Xen Dom0 using the
MAP_PIRQ_TYPE_MULTI_MSI pirq map type.
In order to keep track of which pirq is the first one in the group all
pirqs in the MSI group except for the first one have the newly
introduced PIRQ_MSI_GROUP flag set. This prevents calling
PHYSDEVOP_unmap_pirq on them, since the unmap must be done with the
first pirq in the group.

iSCSI needs to be at least aware that a task involves protection
information. In case it does, after the transaction completed libiscsi
will ask the transport to check the protection status of the
transaction.
Unlike transport errors, DIF errors should not prevent successful
completion of the transaction from the transport point of view, but
should be escelated to scsi mid-layer when constructing the scsi
result and sense data.
check_protection routine will return the ascq corresponding to the DIF
error that occured (or 0 if no error happened).

The netpoll packet receive code only becomes active if the netpoll
rx_skb_hook is implemented, and there is not a single implementation
of the netpoll rx_skb_hook in the kernel.
All of the out of tree implementations I have found all call
netpoll_poll which was removed from the kernel in 2011, so this
change should not add any additional breakage.
There are problems with the netpoll packet receive code. __netpoll_rx
does not call dev_kfree_skb_irq or dev_kfree_skb_any in hard irq
context. netpoll_neigh_reply leaks every skb it receives. Reception
of packets does not work successfully on stacked devices (aka bonding,
team, bridge, and vlans).
Given that the netpoll packet receive code is buggy, there are no
out of tree users that will be merged soon, and the code has
not been used for in tree for a decade let's just remove it.
Reverting this commit can server as a starting point for anyone
who wants to resurrect netpoll packet reception support.

Make rx_skb_hook, and rx in struct netpoll depend on
CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP Make rx_lock, rx_np, and neigh_tx in struct
netpoll_info depend on CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP
Make the functions netpoll_rx_on, netpoll_rx, and netpoll_receive_skb
no-ops when CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP is not set.
Only build netpoll_neigh_reply, checksum_udp service_neigh_queue,
pkt_is_ns, and __netpoll_rx when CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP is defined.
Add helper functions netpoll_trap_setup, netpoll_trap_setup_info,
netpoll_trap_cleanup, and netpoll_trap_cleanup_info that initialize
and cleanup the struct netpoll and struct netpoll_info receive
specific fields when CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP is enabled and do nothing
otherwise.

network drivers receive queue move netpoll_trap and netpoll_set_trap
under CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP
Making netpoll_trap and netpoll_set_trap noop inline functions
when CONFIG_NETPOLL_TRAP is not set.

Change the strategy of netpoll from dropping all packets received
during netpoll_poll_dev to calling napi poll with a budget of 0
(to avoid processing drivers rx queue), and to ignore packets received
with netif_rx (those will safely be placed on the backlog queue).
All of the netpoll supporting drivers have been reviewed to ensure
either thay use netif_rx or that a budget of 0 is supported by their
napi poll routine and that a budget of 0 will not process the drivers
rx queues.
Not dropping packets makes NETPOLL_RX_DROP unnecesary so it is removed.
npinfo->rx_flags is removed as rx_flags with just the NETPOLL_RX_ENABLED
flag becomes just a redundant mirror of list_empty(&npinfo->rx_np).
