Russell King c746053d27 net: phy: add support for probing MMDs >= 8 for devices-in-package
Add support for probing MMDs above 7 for a valid devices-in-package
specifier, but only probe the vendor MMDs for this if they also report
that there the device is present in status register 2.  This avoids
issues where the MMD is implemented, but does not provide IEEE 802.3
compliant registers (such as the MV88X3310 PHY.)

Andrew Lunn f2bc8ad31a net: ethtool: Allow PHY cable test TDR data to configured
Allow the user to configure where on the cable the TDR data should be
retrieved, in terms of first and last sample, and the step between
samples. Also add the ability to ask for TDR data for just one pair.

If this configuration is not provided, it defaults to 1-150m at 1m
intervals for all pairs.

Russell King 90ce665c6a net: mdiobus: add clause 45 mdiobus accessors
There is a recurring pattern throughout some of the PHY code converting
a devad and regnum to our packed clause 45 representation. Rather than
having this scattered around the code, let's put a common translation
function in mdio.h, and provide some register accessors.

Convert the phylib core, phylink, bcm87xx and cortina to use these.

Oleksij Rempel 8066021915 ethtool: provide UAPI for PHY Signal Quality Index (SQI)
Signal Quality Index is a mandatory value required by "OPEN Alliance
SIG" for the 100Base-T1 PHYs [1]. This indicator can be used for cable
integrity diagnostic and investigating other noise sources and
implement by at least two vendors: NXP[2] and TI[3].

Doug Berger a307593a64 net: phy: simplify phy_link_change arguments
This function was introduced to allow for different handling of
link up and link down events particularly with regard to the
netif_carrier. The third argument do_carrier allowed the flag to
be left unchanged.

Since then the phylink has introduced an implementation that
completely ignores the third parameter since it never wants to
change the flag and the phylib always sets the third parameter
to true so the flag is always changed.

Therefore the third argument (i.e. do_carrier) is no longer
necessary and can be removed. This also means that the phylib
phy_link_down() function no longer needs its second argument.

Andrew Lunn 1dd3f212af net: ethtool: Add infrastructure for reporting cable test results
Provide infrastructure for PHY drivers to report the cable test
results.  A netlink skb is associated to the phydev. Helpers will be
added which can add results to this skb. Once the test has finished
the results are sent to user space.

When netlink ethtool is not part of the kernel configuration stubs are
provided. It is also impossible to trigger a cable test, so the error
code returned by the alloc function is of no consequence.

Andrew Lunn 97c2243896 net: phy: Add support for polling cable test
Some PHYs are not capable of generating interrupts when a cable test
finished. They do however support interrupts for normal operations,
like link up/down. As such, the PHY state machine would normally not
poll the PHY.

Add support for indicating the PHY state machine must poll the PHY
when performing a cable test.

Andrew Lunn a68a813836 net: phy: Add cable test support to state machine
Running a cable test is desruptive to normal operation of the PHY and
can take a 5 to 10 seconds to complete. The RTNL lock cannot be held
for this amount of time, and add a new state to the state machine for
running a cable test.

The driver is expected to implement two functions. The first is used
to start a cable test. Once the test has started, it should return.

The second function is called once per second, or on interrupt to
check if the cable test is complete, and to allow the PHY to report
the status.

Oleksij Rempel bdbdac7649 ethtool: provide UAPI for PHY master/slave configuration.
This UAPI is needed for BroadR-Reach 100BASE-T1 devices. Due to lack of
auto-negotiation support, we needed to be able to configure the
MASTER-SLAVE role of the port manually or from an application in user
space.

The same UAPI can be used for 1000BASE-T or MultiGBASE-T devices to
force MASTER or SLAVE role. See IEEE 802.3-2018:

The MASTER-SLAVE role affects the clock configuration:

Since some clock or link related issues are only reproducible in a
specific MASTER-SLAVE-role, MAC and PHY configuration, it is beneficial
to provide generic (not 100BASE-T1 specific) interface to the user space
for configuration flexibility and trouble shooting.

Michael Walle 6349084746 net: phy: add concept of shared storage for PHYs
There are packages which contain multiple PHY devices, eg. a quad PHY
transceiver. Provide functions to allocate and free shared storage.

Usually, a quad PHY contains global registers, which don't belong to any
PHY. Provide convenience functions to access these registers.

Heiner Kallweit 38f961e744 net: phy: add device-managed devm_mdiobus_register
If there's no special ordering requirement for mdiobus_unregister(),
then driver code can be simplified by using a device-managed version
of mdiobus_register(). Prerequisite is that bus allocation has been
done device-managed too. Else mdiobus_free() may be called whilst
bus is still registered, resulting in a BUG_ON(). Therefore let
devm_mdiobus_register() return -EPERM if bus was allocated
non-managed.

Heiner Kallweit 5eee3bb710 net: phy: add and use phy_check_downshift
So far PHY drivers have to check whether a downshift occurred to be
able to notify the user. To make life of drivers authors a little bit
easier move the downshift notification to phylib. phy_check_downshift()
compares the highest mutually advertised speed with the actual value
of phydev->speed (typically read by the PHY driver from a
vendor-specific register) to detect a downshift.

Heiner Kallweit 9010f9deb0 net: phy: improve phy_driver callback handle_interrupt
did_interrupt() clears the interrupt, therefore handle_interrupt() can
not check which event triggered the interrupt. To overcome this
constraint and allow more flexibility for customer interrupt handlers,
let's decouple handle_interrupt() from parts of the phylib interrupt
handling. Custom interrupt handlers now have to implement the
did_interrupt() functionality in handle_interrupt() if needed.

Fortunately we have just one custom interrupt handler so far (in the
mscc PHY driver), convert it to the changed API.

Heiner Kallweit 611d779af7 net: phy: fix MDIO bus PM PHY resuming
So far we have the unfortunate situation that mdio_bus_phy_may_suspend()
is called in suspend AND resume path, assuming that function result is
the same. After the original change this is no longer the case,
resulting in broken resume as reported by Geert.

To fix this call mdio_bus_phy_may_suspend() in the suspend path only,
and let the phy_device store the info whether it was suspended by
MDIO bus PM.

Heiner Kallweit 249bc9744e net: phy: avoid clearing PHY interrupts twice in irq handler
On all PHY drivers that implement did_interrupt() reading the interrupt
status bits clears them. This means we may loose an interrupt that
is triggered between calling did_interrupt() and phy_clear_interrupt().
As part of the fix make it a requirement that did_interrupt() clears
the interrupt.

The Fixes tag refers to the first commit where the patch applies
cleanly.

Jeremy Linton ce69e2162f mdio_bus: Add generic mdio_find_bus()
It appears most ethernet drivers follow one of two main strategies
for mdio bus/phy management. A monolithic model where the net driver
itself creates, probes and uses the phy, and one where an external
mdio/phy driver instantiates the mdio bus/phy and the net driver
only attaches to a known phy. Usually in this latter model the phys
are discovered via DT relationships or simply phy name/address
hardcoding.

This is a shame because modern well behaved mdio buses are self
describing and can be probed. The mdio layer itself is fully capable
of this, yet there isn't a clean way for a standalone net driver
to attach and enumerate the discovered devices. This is because
outside of of_mdio_find_bus() there isn't a straightforward way
to acquire the mii_bus pointer.

So, lets add a mdio_find_bus which can return the mii_bus based
only on its name.

Russell King a87ae8a963 net: add helpers to resolve negotiated flow control
Add a couple of helpers to resolve negotiated flow control. Two helpers
are provided:

- linkmode_resolve_pause() which takes the link partner and local
  advertisements, and decodes whether we should enable TX or RX pause
  at the MAC. This is useful outside of phylib, e.g. in phylink.
- phy_get_pause(), which returns the TX/RX enablement status for the
  current negotiation results of the PHY.

This allows us to centralise the flow control resolution, rather than
spreading it around.

Florian Fainelli 080bb352fa net: phy: Maintain MDIO device and bus statistics
We maintain global statistics for an entire MDIO bus, as well as broken
down, per MDIO bus address statistics. Given that it is possible for
MDIO devices such as switches to access MDIO bus addresses for which
there is not a mdio_device instance created (therefore not a a
corresponding device directory in sysfs either), we also maintain
per-address statistics under the statistics folder. The layout looks
like this:

/sys/class/mdio_bus/../statistics/
	transfers
	errrors
	writes
	reads
	transfers_<addr>
	errors_<addr>
	writes_<addr>
	reads_<addr>

When a mdio_device instance is registered, a statistics/ folder is
created with the tranfers, errors, writes and reads attributes which
point to the appropriate MDIO bus statistics structure.

Statistics are 64-bit unsigned quantities and maintained through the
u64_stats_sync.h helper functions.

Antoine Tenart 76564261a7 net: macsec: introduce the macsec_context structure
This patch introduces the macsec_context structure. It will be used
in the kernel to exchange information between the common MACsec
implementation (macsec.c) and the MACsec hardware offloading
implementations. This structure contains pointers to MACsec specific
structures which contain the actual MACsec configuration, and to the
underlying device (phydev for now).

Richard Cochran 4715f65ffa net: Introduce a new MII time stamping interface.
Currently the stack supports time stamping in PHY devices.  However,
there are newer, non-PHY devices that can snoop an MII bus and provide
time stamps.  In order to support such devices, this patch introduces
a new interface to be used by both PHY and non-PHY devices.

In addition, the one and only user of the old PHY time stamping API is
converted to the new interface.

Richard Cochran 0e5dafc8a6 net: phy: Introduce helper functions for time stamping support.
Some parts of the networking stack and at least one driver test fields
within the 'struct phy_device' in order to query time stamping
capabilities and to invoke time stamping methods.  This patch adds a
functional interface around the time stamping fields.  This will allow
insulating the callers from future changes to the details of the time
stamping implemenation.

Russell King e3cf8b3668 net: phy: remove phy_ethtool_sset()
There are no users of phy_ethtool_sset() in the kernel anymore, and
as of commit 3c1bcc8614 ("net: ethernet: Convert phydev advertize
and supported from u32 to link mode"), the implementation is slightly
buggy - it doesn't correctly check the masked advertising mask as it
used to.

Remove it, and update the phy documentation to refer to its replacement
function.

Marco Hartmann 94acaeb50c Add genphy_c45_config_aneg() function to phy-c45.c
Commit 34786005ec ("net: phy: prevent PHYs w/o Clause 22 regs from calling
genphy_config_aneg") introduced a check that aborts phy_config_aneg()
if the phy is a C45 phy.
This causes phy_state_machine() to call phy_error() so that the phy
ends up in PHY_HALTED state.

Instead of returning -EOPNOTSUPP, call genphy_c45_config_aneg()
(analogous to the C22 case) so that the state machine can run
correctly.

genphy_c45_config_aneg() closely resembles mv3310_config_aneg()
in drivers/net/phy/marvell10g.c, excluding vendor specific
configurations for 1000BaseT.

Heiner Kallweit 65b27995a4 net: phy: let phy_speed_down/up support speeds >1Gbps
So far phy_speed_down/up can be used up to 1Gbps only. Remove this
restriction by using new helper __phy_speed_down. New member adv_old
in struct phy_device is used by phy_speed_up to restore the advertised
modes before calling phy_speed_down. Don't simply advertise what is
supported because a user may have intentionally removed modes from
advertisement.

Heiner Kallweit f4069cd7fa net: phy: prepare phylib to deal with PHY's extending Clause 22
The integrated PHY in 2.5Gbps chip RTL8125 is the first (known to me)
PHY that uses standard Clause 22 for all modes up to 1Gbps and adds
2.5Gbps control using vendor-specific registers. To use phylib for
the standard part little extensions are needed:
- Move most of genphy_config_aneg to a new function
  __genphy_config_aneg that takes a parameter whether restarting
  auto-negotiation is needed (depending on whether content of
  vendor-specific advertisement register changed).
- Don't clear phydev->lp_advertising in genphy_read_status so that
  we can set non-C22 mode flags before.

Basically both changes mimic the behavior of the equivalent Clause 45
functions.

The variables phy_basic_ports_array, phy_fibre_port_array and
phy_all_ports_features_array are declared static and marked
EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL(), which is at best an odd combination.
Because the variables were decided to be a part of API, this commit
removes the static attributes and adds the declarations to the header.

Heiner Kallweit 2bd229df5e net: phy: remove state PHY_FORCING
In the early days of phylib we had a functionality that changed to the
next lower speed in fixed mode if no link was established after a
certain period of time. This functionality has been removed years ago,
and state PHY_FORCING isn't needed any longer. Instead we can go from
UP to RUNNING or NOLINK directly (same as in autoneg mode).

Heiner Kallweit 07b0928918 net: phy: enable interrupts when PHY is attached already
This patch is a step towards allowing PHY drivers to handle more
interrupt sources than just link change. E.g. several PHY's have
built-in temperature monitoring and can raise an interrupt if a
temperature threshold is exceeded. We may be interested in such
interrupts also if the phylib state machine isn't started.
Therefore move enabling interrupts to phy_request_interrupt().

Heiner Kallweit f24098f807 net: phy: improve resuming from hibernation
I got an interesting report [0] that after resuming from hibernation
the link has 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps. Reason is that another OS has
been used whilst Linux was hibernated. And this OS speeds down the link
due to WoL. Therefore, when resuming, we shouldn't expect that what
the PHY advertises is what it did when hibernating.
Easiest way to do this is removing state PHY_RESUMING. Instead always
go via PHY_UP that configures PHY advertisement.

Heiner Kallweit 22c0ef6b14 net: phy: improve pause handling
When probing the phy device we set sym and asym pause in the "supported"
bitmap (unless the PHY tells us otherwise). However we don't know yet
whether the MAC supports pause. Simply copying phy->supported to
phy->advertising will trigger advertising pause, and that's not
what we want. Therefore add phy_advertise_supported() that copies all
modes but doesn't touch the pause bits.

In phy_support_(a)sym_pause we shouldn't set any bits in the supported
bitmap because we may set a bit the PHY intentionally disabled.
Effective pause support should be the AND-combined PHY and MAC pause
capabilities. If the MAC supports everything, then it's only relevant
what the PHY supports. If MAC supports sym pause only, then we have to
clear the asym bit in phydev->supported.
Copy the pause flags only and don't touch the modes, because a driver
may have intentionally removed a mode from phydev->advertising.

genphy_read_status() so far checks phydev->supported, not the actual
PHY capabilities. This can make a difference if the supported speeds
have been limited by of_set_phy_supported() or phy_set_max_speed().

It seems that this issue only affects the link partner advertisements
as displayed by ethtool. Also this patch wouldn't apply to older
kernels because linkmode bitmaps have been introduced recently.

The original patch didn't consider the case that autoneg process
finishes successfully but both link partners have no mode in common.
In this case there's no link, nevertheless we may be interested in
what the link partner advertised.

Like phydev->link we set phydev->autoneg_complete in
genphy_update_link() and use the stored value in genphy_read_status().
This way we don't have to read register BMSR again.

Linus Walleij 4c8e0459b5 net: phy: realtek: Dummy IRQ calls for RTL8366RB
This fixes a regression introduced by
commit 0d2e778e38
"net: phy: replace PHY_HAS_INTERRUPT with a check for
config_intr and ack_interrupt".

This assumes that a PHY cannot trigger interrupt unless
it has .config_intr() or .ack_interrupt() implemented.
A later patch makes the code assume both need to be
implemented for interrupts to be present.

But this PHY (which is inside a DSA) will happily
fire interrupts without either callback.

Implement dummy callbacks for .config_intr() and
.ack_interrupt() in the phy header to fix this.

Tested on the RTL8366RB on D-Link DIR-685.

The netfilter conflicts were rather simple overlapping
changes.

However, the cls_tcindex.c stuff was a bit more complex.

On the 'net' side, Cong is fixing several races and memory
leaks.  Whilst on the 'net-next' side we have Vlad adding
the rtnl-ness support.

What I've decided to do, in order to resolve this, is revert the
conversion over to using a workqueue that Cong did, bringing us back
to pure RCU.  I did it this way because I believe that either Cong's
races don't apply with have Vlad did things, or Cong will have to
implement the race fix slightly differently.

Maxime Chevallier ac3f553334 net: phy: Extract genphy_c45_pma_read_abilities from marvell10g
Marvell 10G PHY driver has a generic way of initializing the supported
link modes by reading the PHY's C45 PMA abilities. This can be made
generic, since these registers are part of the 802.3 specifications.

This commit extracts the config_init link_mode initialization code from
marvell10g and uses it to introduce the genphy_c45_pma_read_abilities
function.

Only PMA modes are read, it's still up to the caller to set the Pause
parameters.

Andrew Lunn efbdfdc29b net: phy: Add support for asking the PHY its abilities
Add support for runtime determination of what the PHY supports, by
adding a new function to the phy driver. The get_features call should
set the phydev->supported member with the features the PHY supports.
It is only called if phydrv->features is NULL.

This requires minor changes to pause. The PHY driver should not set
pause abilities, except for when it has odd cause capabilities, e.g.
pause cannot be disabled. With this change, phydev->supported already
contains the drivers abilities, including pause. So rather than
considering phydrv->features, look at the phydev->supported, and
enable pause if neither of the pause bits are already set.

Heiner Kallweit 998a8a8387 net: phy: let genphy_c45_read_link manage the devices to check
Let genphy_c45_read_link manage the devices to check, this removes
overhead from callers. Add C22EXT to the list of excluded devices
because it doesn't implement the status register. According to the
802.3 clause 45 spec registers 29.0 - 29.4 are reserved.

At the moment we have very few clause 45 PHY drivers, so we are
lacking experience whether other drivers will have to exclude further
devices, or may need to check PHY XS. If we should figure out that
list of devices to check needs to be configurable, I think best will
be to add a device list member to struct phy_driver.

Heiner Kallweit 2b3e88ea65 net: phy: improve phy state checking
Add helpers phy_is_started() and __phy_is_started() to avoid open-coded
checks whether PHY has been started. To make the check easier move
PHY_HALTED before PHY_UP in enum phy_state. Further improvements:

phy_start_aneg():
Return -EBUSY and print warning if function is called from a non-started
state (DOWN, READY, HALTED). Better check because function is exported
and drivers may use it incorrectly.

phy_interrupt():
Return IRQ_NONE also if state is DOWN or READY. We should never receive
an interrupt in one of these states, but better play safe.

phy_stop():
Just return and print a warning if PHY is in a non-started state.
This warning should help to identify drivers with unbalanced calls to
phy_start() / phy_stop().

phy_state_machine():
Schedule state machine run only if PHY is in a started state.
E.g. if state is READY we don't need the state machine, it will be
started by phy_start().

Andrew Lunn 3c1bcc8614 net: ethernet: Convert phydev advertize and supported from u32 to link mode
There are a few MAC/PHYs combinations which now support > 1Gbps. These
may need to make use of link modes with bits > 31. Thus their
supported PHY features or advertised features cannot be implemented
using the current bitmap in a u32. Convert to using a linkmode bitmap,
which can support all the currently devices link modes, and is future
proof as more modes are added.

Heiner Kallweit d73a2156bd net: phy: simplify phy_mac_interrupt and related functions
When using phy_mac_interrupt() the irq number is set to
PHY_IGNORE_INTERRUPT, therefore phy_interrupt_is_valid() returns false.
As a result phy_change() effectively just calls phy_trigger_machine()
when called from phy_mac_interrupt() via phy_change_work(). So we can
call phy_trigger_machine() from phy_mac_interrupt() directly and
remove some now unneeded code.

Heiner Kallweit 8deeb6309c net: phy: don't set state PHY_CHANGELINK in phy_change
State PHY_CHANGELINK isn't needed here, we can call the state machine
directly. We just have to remove the check for phy_polling_mode() to
make this work also in interrupt mode. Removing this check doesn't
cause any overhead because when not polling the state machine is
called only if required by some event.
