Linus Torvalds 3bad80dab9 Char/Misc and other driver changes for 5.17-rc1
Here is the large set of char, misc, and other "small" driver subsystem
 changes for 5.17-rc1.

Lots of different things are in here for char/misc drivers such as:
 	- habanalabs driver updates
 	- mei driver updates
 	- lkdtm driver updates
 	- vmw_vmci driver updates
 	- android binder driver updates
 	- other small char/misc driver updates

Also smaller driver subsystems have also been updated, including:
 	- fpga subsystem updates
 	- iio subsystem updates
 	- soundwire subsystem updates
 	- extcon subsystem updates
 	- gnss subsystem updates
 	- phy subsystem updates
 	- coresight subsystem updates
 	- firmware subsystem updates
 	- comedi subsystem updates
 	- mhi subsystem updates
 	- speakup subsystem updates
 	- rapidio subsystem updates
 	- spmi subsystem updates
 	- virtual driver updates
 	- counter subsystem updates

Too many individual changes to summarize, the shortlog contains the full
 details.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

Greg Kroah-Hartman 6d1e4927de paride: fix up build warning on mips platforms
MIPS include files define "PC" so when building the paride driver the
following build warning shows up:

	rivers/block/paride/bpck.c:32: warning: "PC" redefined

Fix this by undefining PC before redefining it as is done for other
defines in this driver.

Christoph Hellwig 1ebe2e5f9d block: remove GENHD_FL_EXT_DEVT
All modern drivers can support extra partitions using the extended
dev_t. In fact except for the ioctl method drivers never even see
partitions in normal operation.

So remove the GENHD_FL_EXT_DEVT and allow extra partitions for all
block devices that do support partitions, and require those that
do not support partitions to explicit disallow them using
GENHD_FL_NO_PART.

Linus Torvalds a9c9a6f741 SCSI misc on 20210902
This series consists of the usual driver updates (ufs, qla2xxx,
target, smartpqi, lpfc, mpt3sas). The core change causing the most
churn was replacing the command request field request with a macro,
allowing us to offset map to it and remove the redundant field; the
same was also done for the tag field. The most impactful change is
the final removal of scsi_ioctl, which has been deprecated for over a
 decade.

Masahiro Yamada a7f7f6248d treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'
Since commit 84af7a6194 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.

This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

There are a variety of indentation styles found.

  a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
  b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
  c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
  d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
  e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation)
  f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
  g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'

In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:

  $ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

Adam Williamson 03264ddde2 scsi: compat_ioctl: cdrom: Replace .ioctl with .compat_ioctl in four appropriate places
Arnd Bergmann inadvertently typoed these in d320a9551e and 64cbfa96551a;
they seem to be the cause of
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1801353 , invalid SCSI commands
when udev tries to query a DVD drive.

[arnd] Found another instance of the same bug, also introduced in my

Arnd Bergmann 64cbfa9655 compat_ioctl: move cdrom commands into cdrom.c
There is no need for the special cases for the cdrom ioctls any more now,
so make sure that each cdrom driver has a .compat_ioctl() callback and
calls cdrom_compat_ioctl() directly there.

Arnd Bergmann 9452b1a3ed compat_ioctl: block: handle cdrom compat ioctl in non-cdrom drivers
Various block drivers implement the CDROMMULTISESSION,
CDROM_GET_CAPABILITY, and CDROMEJECT ioctl commands, relying on the
block layer to handle compat_ioctl mode for them.

Move this into the drivers directly as a preparation for simplifying
the block layer later.

When only integer arguments or no arguments are passed, the
same handler can be used for .ioctl and .compat_ioctl, and
when only pointer arguments are passed, the newly added
blkdev_compat_ptr_ioctl can be used.

Martin Wilck 773008f6fe Revert "block: unexport DISK_EVENT_MEDIA_CHANGE for legacy/fringe drivers"
This reverts commit 9fd097b149.

Instead of leaving disk->events completely empty, we now export the
supported events again, and tell the block layer not to forward events to
user space by not setting DISK_EVENT_FLAG_UEVENT. This allows the block
layer to distinguish between devices that for which events should be
handled in kernel only, and devices which don't support any meda change
events at all.

Jens Axboe 81b74ac68c paride/pcd: cleanup queues when detection fails
The driver allocates queues for all the units it potentially
supports. But if we fail to detect any drives, then we fail
loading the module without cleaning up those queues. This is
now evident with the switch to blk-mq, though the bug has
been there forever as far as I can tell.

Also fix cleanup through regular module exit.

Jens Axboe 6ce59025f1 paride/pf: cleanup queues when detection fails
The driver allocates queues for all the units it potentially
supports. But if we fail to detect any drives, then we fail
loading the module without cleaning up those queues. This is
now evident with the switch to blk-mq, though the bug has
been there forever as far as I can tell.

Also fix cleanup through regular module exit.

Colin Ian King 5efac89c84 paride: remove redundant variable n
Variable n is being assigned but is never used hence it is redundant
and can be removed. Also put spacing between variables in declaration
to clean up checkpatch warnings.
