Daniel Vetter 9b539c4d1b fbdev/radeon: use pci aperture helpers
It's not exactly the same since the open coded version doesn't set
primary correctly. But that's a bugfix, so shouldn't hurt really.

Stephen Kitt c28509ef9c fbdev: radeon: Use backlight helper
Instead of retrieving the backlight brightness in struct
backlight_properties manually, and then checking whether the backlight
should be on at all, use backlight_get_brightness() which does all
this and insulates this from future changes.

Thomas Zimmermann 0ba2fa8cbd fbdev: Add support for the nomodeset kernel parameter
Support the kernel's nomodeset parameter for all PCI-based fbdev
drivers that use aperture helpers to remove other, hardware-agnostic
graphics drivers.

The parameter is a simple way of using the firmware-provided scanout
buffer if the hardware's native driver is broken. The same effect
could be achieved with per-driver options, but the importance of the
graphics output for many users makes a single, unified approach
worthwhile.

With nomodeset specified, the fbdev driver module will not load. This
unifies behavior with similar DRM drivers. In DRM helpers, modules
first check the nomodeset parameter before registering the PCI
driver. As fbdev has no such module helpers, we have to modify each
driver individually.

The name 'nomodeset' is slightly misleading, but has been chosen for
historical reasons. Several drivers implemented it before it became a
general option for DRM. So keeping the existing name was preferred over
introducing a new one.

	* wrap video_firmware_drivers_only() in helper

Vaibhav Gupta 8e0bd31dad fbdev: radeonfb: use generic power management
Drivers using legacy PCI power management .suspend()/.resume() callbacks
have to manage PCI states and device's PM states themselves. They also
need to take care of standard configuration registers.

Switch to generic power management framework using a "struct dev_pm_ops"
variable to take the unnecessary load from the driver.
This also avoids the need for the driver to directly call most of the PCI
helper functions and device power state control functions, as through
the generic framework PCI Core takes care of the necessary operations,
and drivers are required to do only device-specific jobs.

Vaibhav Gupta 8c2bb49f38 video: fbdev: aty: radeon_pm: remove redundant CONFIG_PM container
Fixes commit 42ddb453a0 ("radeon: Conditionally compile PM code")

Before the above mentioned patch, codes between the line number 547 and
2803 were already inside "#ifdef CONFIG_PM" container. Thus, addition of
"#if defined(CONFIG_PM)" was not required in the patch. It also affected
the "#ifdef CONFIG_PPC_OF" container (line 1943-2510).

From the current snapshot of radeon_pm.c, remove:
    1434 | #if defined(CONFIG_PM)
and,
    2213 | #endif

This removes the redundant CONFIG_PM directive as well as fixes the
CONFIG_PPC (earlier CONFIG_PPC_OF) container.

Vaibhav Gupta c1a4777671 fbdev: aty128fb: use generic power management
Drivers should do only device-specific jobs. But in general, drivers using
legacy PCI PM framework for .suspend()/.resume() have to manage many PCI
PM-related tasks themselves which can be done by PCI Core itself. This
brings extra load on the driver and it directly calls PCI helper functions
to handle them.

Switch to the new generic framework by updating function signatures and
define a "struct dev_pm_ops" variable to bind PM callbacks. Also, remove
unnecessary calls to the PCI Helper functions along with the legacy
.suspend & .resume bindings.

Now,
- aty128_pci_suspend() had a "pm_message_t" type parameter as per legacy
  PCI PM framework that got deprecated in generic.
- Rename the callback as aty128_pci_suspend_late() and preserve the
  parameter.
- Define 3 new callbacks as:
        * aty128_pci_suspend()
        * aty128_pci_freeze()
        * aty128_pci_hibernate()

  value for "pm_message_t" type parameter.
- Bind the callbacks in "struct dev_pm_ops" type variable

Jani Nikula 8a48ac3393 video: constify fb ops across all drivers
Now that the fbops member of struct fb_info is const, we can start
making the ops const as well.

This does not cover all drivers; some actually modify the fbops struct,
for example to adjust for different configurations, and others do more
involved things that I'd rather not touch in practically obsolete
drivers. Mostly this is the low hanging fruit where we can add "const"
and be done with it.

v3:
- un-constify atyfb, mb862xx, nvidia and uvesabf (0day)

v2:
- fix typo (Christophe de Dinechin)
- use "static const" instead of "const static" in mx3fb.c
- also constify smscufx.c

Rafael J. Wysocki d6aa37cd04 PCI/PM: Avoid exporting __pci_complete_power_transition()
Notice that radeon_set_suspend(), which is the only caller of
__pci_complete_power_transition() outside of pci.c, really only
cares about the pci_platform_power_transition() invoked by it,
so export the latter instead of it, update the radeon driver to
call pci_platform_power_transition() directly and make
__pci_complete_power_transition() static.

Code rearrangement, no intentional functional impact.

Arnd Bergmann 0ba9841adb compat_ioctl: move ATYFB_CLK handling to atyfb driver
These are two obscure ioctl commands, in a driver that only
has compatible commands, so just let the driver handle this
itself.
