Pass dev_priv to intel_setup_outputs() and functions called by it, since
those are all intel i915 specific functions. Also, in the majority of

Having a shadow VGA connector is useful for testing purposes. We
currently skip registering the connector on machines where the
CRT detect falsely reports it as connected. Let's instead move the
the blacklist check to the detect callback (and hpd setup) and
if we get a match we always report the connector as disconnected.
This way we get a shadow VGA connector to help with testing, while
we still avoid the user facing problems from the incorrect
detection results.
commit 8ca4013d70 ("CHROMIUM: i915: Add DMI override to skip CRT
initialization on ZGB") doesn't provide much in the way of details
as to why 'ACER ZGB' was added to the blacklist. Trying to trace it
further leads me to a chromeos bugreport I can't access. So based on
the fact that the commit added the
"/* Skip machines without VGA that falsely report hotplug events */"
comment, I'm going to assume that it was just spurious CRT detection.
So it should be safe to move the blacklist to just block the detection
and hpd without causing a regression on said machine.
In fact Stéphane confirmed on irc that the problem was indeed just
crappy hotplug detect:
"22:29 < marcheu> vsyrjala: the port isn't there, but the load detect is
improperly stubbed in hw
22:29 < marcheu> vsyrjala: so it floats"
so this change should be perfectly fine.

This is mostly code churn, with exception of a few places:
- intel_display.c has changes in intel_sanitize_encoder
- intel_ddi.c has intel_ddi_fdi_disable calling intel_ddi_post_disable,
and required a function change. Also affects intel_display.c
- intel_dp_mst.c passes a NULL crtc_state and conn_state to
intel_ddi_post_disable for shutting down the real encoder.
If we would pass conn_state, then conn_state->connector !=
intel_dig_port->connector and conn_state->best_encoder !=
to_intel_encoder(intel_dig_port).
We also shouldn't pass crtc_state, because in that case the
disabling sequence may potentially be different depending on
which crtc is disabled last. Nice way to introduce bugs.
No other functional changes are done, diff stat is already huge.
Each encoder type will need to be fixed to use the atomic states
separately.

One of the things preventing us from using polling is the fact that
calling valleyview_crt_detect_hotplug() when there's a VGA cable
connected results in sending another hotplug. With polling enabled when
HPD is disabled, this results in a scenario like this:
- We enable power wells and reset the ADPA
- output_poll_exec does force probe on VGA, triggering a hpd
- HPD handler waits for poll to unlock dev->mode_config.mutex
- output_poll_exec shuts off the ADPA, unlocks dev->mode_config.mutex
- HPD handler runs, resets ADPA and brings us back to the start
This results in an endless irq storm getting sent from the ADPA
whenever a VGA connector gets detected in the middle of polling.
Somewhat based off of the "drm/i915: Disable CRT HPD around force
trigger" patch Ville Syrjälä sent a while back

While VGA hotplugging worked(ish) before, it looks like that was mainly
because we'd unintentionally enable it in
valleyview_crt_detect_hotplug() when we did a force trigger. This
doesn't work reliably enough because whenever the display powerwell on
vlv gets disabled, the values set in VLV_ADPA get cleared and
consequently VGA hotplugging gets disabled. This causes bugs such as one
we found on an Intel NUC, where doing the following sequence of
hotplugs:
- Disconnect all monitors
- Connect VGA
- Disconnect VGA
- Connect HDMI
Would result in VGA hotplugging becoming disabled, due to the powerwells
getting toggled in the process of connecting HDMI.
Changes since v3:
- Expose intel_crt_reset() through intel_drv.h and call that in
vlv_display_power_well_init() instead of
encoder->base.funcs->reset(&encoder->base);
Changes since v2:
- Use intel_encoder structs instead of drm_encoder structs
Changes since v1:
- Instead of handling the register writes ourself, we just reuse
intel_crt_detect()
- Instead of resetting the ADPA during display IRQ installation, we now
reset them in vlv_display_power_well_init()

So as a prep step to being able sanitize such a bogus state, move the

Done with coccinelle for the most part. However, it thinks '...' is
part of the semantic patch, so I put an 'int DOTDOTDOT' placeholder
in its place and got rid of it with sed afterwards.

Bspec modeset sequence tells us to disable the PCH transcoder and
FDI after the CRT port on LPT-H, so let's do that. And the CRT port
should be disabled after the pipe, as we do on other PCH platforms
too since
commit 1ea56e269e ("drm/i915: Disable CRT port after pipe on PCH platforms")
commit 00490c22b1 ("drm/i915: Consider SPLL as another shared pll, v2.")
moved the SPLL disable from the .post_disable() hook to some upper
level code, so we can just move the CRT port disabling into the
.post_disable() hook. If we still had the non-shared SPLL, it would have
needed to be moved into the .post_pll_disable() hook.
v2: Actually move the CRT port disable to the .post_disable() hook,
and amend the commit message with more details (Paulo)
v3: Fix typos in commit message (Paulo)

On some machines the CRT connector may be fused off. The weird thing
about this setup is that the ADPA register works otherwise normally,
except the enable bit is hardwired to 0. No one knows of any fuse
register that would tell us if this is the case, so the only thing we
can do (apart from a blacklist) is to try and set the enable bit and see
if it sticks. If not, we don't register the connector at all. Obviously
if the bit is already set when loading the driver we can just assume it
works.
I've smoke tested this approach on several machines (GMCH and PCH),
some with actual CRT connectors, some with shadow connectors, and
obviously the machine (IVB) with the fused off connector. So far
I've not seen any ill effects from this probe.
The main benefit is that we can actually run igt on machines with
fused off connectors, without totally upsetting the state checker.

drm/i915/skl: disable display side power well support for now
so that we can proplery re-eanble skl power wells in -next.
Conflicts are just adjacent lines changed, except for intel_fbdev.c
where we need to interleave the changs. Nothing nefarious.

Make I915_READ and I915_WRITE more type safe by wrapping the register
offset in a struct. This should eliminate most of the fumbles we've had
with misplaced parens.
This only takes care of normal mmio registers. We could extend the idea
to other register types and define each with its own struct. That way
you wouldn't be able to accidentally pass the wrong thing to a specific
register access function.
The gpio_reg setup is probably the ugliest thing left. But I figure I'd
just leave it for now, and wait for some divine inspiration to strike
before making it nice.
As for the generated code, it's actually a bit better sometimes. Eg.
looking at i915_irq_handler(), we can see the following change:
lea 0x70024(%rdx,%rax,1),%r9d
mov $0x1,%edx
- movslq %r9d,%r9
- mov %r9,%rsi
- mov %r9,-0x58(%rbp)
- callq *0xd8(%rbx)
+ mov %r9d,%esi
+ mov %r9d,-0x48(%rbp)
callq *0xd8(%rbx)
So previously gcc thought the register offset might be signed and
decided to sign extend it, just in case. The rest appears to be
mostly just minor shuffling of instructions.
v2: i915_mmio_reg_{offset,equal,valid}() helpers added
s/_REG/_MMIO/ in the register defines
mo more switch statements left to worry about
ring_emit stuff got sorted in a prep patch
cmd parser, lrc context and w/a batch buildup also in prep patch
vgpu stuff cleaned up and moved to a prep patch
all other unrelated changes split out
v3: Rebased due to BXT DSI/BLC, MOCS, etc.
v4: Rebased due to churn, s/i915_mmio_reg_t/i915_reg_t/

When diagnosing a unrelated bug for someone on irc, it would seem the hardware can
be brought up by the BIOS with the embedded displayport using the SPLL for spread spectrum.
Right now this is not handled well in i915, and it calculates the crtc needs to
be reprogrammed on the first modeset without SSC, but the SPLL itself was kept
active. Fix this by exposing SPLL as a shared pll that will not be returned
by intel_get_shared_dpll; you have to know it exists to use it.
Changes since v1:
- Create a separate dpll_hw_state.spll for spll, and use
separate pll functions for spll.
