Ondrej Mosnacek 0ac6075a32 kernfs: use simple_xattrs for security attributes
Replace the special handling of security xattrs with simple_xattrs, as
is already done for the trusted xattrs. This simplifies the code and
allows LSMs to use more than just a single xattr to do their business.

Ondrej Mosnacek 0589521962 kernfs: clean up struct kernfs_iattrs
Right now, kernfs_iattrs embeds the whole struct iattr, even though it
doesn't really use half of its fields... This both leads to wasting
space and makes the code look awkward. Let's just list the few fields
we need directly in struct kernfs_iattrs.

  stuff is getting used there - it's one of the most convoluted
  filesystems in terms of mount-related logics), but NFS bits are the
  next cycle fodder.

  It got seriously simplified since the last cycle; documentation is
  probably the weakest bit at the moment - I considered dropping the
  commit introducing Documentation/filesystems/mount_api.txt (cutting
  the size increase by quarter ;-), but decided that it would be better
  to fix it up after -rc1 instead.

  That pile allows to do followup work in independent branches, which
  should make life much easier for the next cycle. fs/super.c size
  increase is unpleasant; there's a followup series that allows to
  shrink it considerably, but I decided to leave that until the next
  cycle"

Johannes Weiner 147e1a97c4 fs: kernfs: add poll file operation
Patch series "psi: pressure stall monitors", v3.

Android is adopting psi to detect and remedy memory pressure that
results in stuttering and decreased responsiveness on mobile devices.

Psi gives us the stall information, but because we're dealing with
latencies in the millisecond range, periodically reading the pressure
files to detect stalls in a timely fashion is not feasible.  Psi also
doesn't aggregate its averages at a high enough frequency right now.

This patch series extends the psi interface such that users can
configure sensitive latency thresholds and use poll() and friends to be
notified when these are breached.

As high-frequency aggregation is costly, it implements an aggregation
method that is optimized for fast, short-interval averaging, and makes
the aggregation frequency adaptive, such that high-frequency updates
only happen while monitored stall events are actively occurring.

With these patches applied, Android can monitor for, and ward off,
mounting memory shortages before they cause problems for the user.  For
example, using memory stall monitors in userspace low memory killer
daemon (lmkd) we can detect mounting pressure and kill less important
processes before device becomes visibly sluggish.

In our memory stress testing psi memory monitors produce roughly 10x
less false positives compared to vmpressure signals.  Having ability to
specify multiple triggers for the same psi metric allows other parts of
Android framework to monitor memory state of the device and act
accordingly.

The new interface is straightforward.  The user opens one of the
pressure files for writing and writes a trigger description into the
file descriptor that defines the stall state - some or full, and the
maximum stall time over a given window of time.  E.g.:

When the monitored stall state is entered, psi adapts its aggregation
frequency according to what the configured time window requires in order
to emit event signals in a timely fashion.  Once the stalling subsides,
aggregation reverts back to normal.

The trigger is associated with the open file descriptor.  To stop
monitoring, the user only needs to close the file descriptor and the
trigger is discarded.

Patches 1-4 prepare the psi code for polling support.  Patch 5
implements the adaptive polling logic, the pressure growth detection
optimized for short intervals, and hooks up write() and poll() on the
pressure files.

The patches were developed in collaboration with Johannes Weiner.

This patch (of 5):

Kernfs has a standardized poll/notification mechanism for waking all
pollers on all fds when a filesystem node changes.  To allow polling for
custom events, add a .poll callback that can override the default.

This is in preparation for pollable cgroup pressure files which have
per-fd trigger configurations.

David Howells 23bf1b6be9 kernfs, sysfs, cgroup, intel_rdt: Support fs_context
Make kernfs support superblock creation/mount/remount with fs_context.

This requires that sysfs, cgroup and intel_rdt, which are built on kernfs,
be made to support fs_context also.

Notes:

 (1) A kernfs_fs_context struct is created to wrap fs_context and the
     kernfs mount parameters are moved in here (or are in fs_context).

 (2) kernfs_mount{,_ns}() are made into kernfs_get_tree().  The extra
     namespace tag parameter is passed in the context if desired

 (3) kernfs_free_fs_context() is provided as a destructor for the
     kernfs_fs_context struct, but for the moment it does nothing except
     get called in the right places.

 (4) sysfs doesn't wrap kernfs_fs_context since it has no parameters to
     pass, but possibly this should be done anyway in case someone wants to
     add a parameter in future.

 (5) A cgroup_fs_context struct is created to wrap kernfs_fs_context and
     the cgroup v1 and v2 mount parameters are all moved there.

 (6) cgroup1 parameter parsing error messages are now handled by invalf(),
     which allows userspace to collect them directly.

 (7) cgroup1 parameter cleanup is now done in the context destructor rather
     than in the mount/get_tree and remount functions.

Weirdies:

 (*) cgroup_do_get_tree() calls cset_cgroup_from_root() with locks held,
     but then uses the resulting pointer after dropping the locks.  I'm
     told this is okay and needs commenting.

 (*) The cgroup refcount web.  This really needs documenting.

 (*) cgroup2 only has one root?

Add a suggestion from Thomas Gleixner in which the RDT enablement code is
placed into its own function.

Ayush Mittal 26e28d68b1 kernfs: Allocating memory for kernfs_iattrs with kmem_cache.
Creating a new cache for kernfs_iattrs.
Currently, memory is allocated with kzalloc() which
always gives aligned memory. On ARM, this is 64 byte aligned.
To avoid the wastage of memory in aligning the size requested,
a new cache for kernfs_iattrs is created.

Size of struct kernfs_iattrs is 80 Bytes.
On ARM, it will come in kmalloc-128 slab.
and it will come in kmalloc-192 slab if debug info is enabled.
Extra bytes taken 48 bytes.

Total number of objects created : 4096
Total saving = 48*4096 = 192 KB

After creating new slab(When debug info is enabled) :

Al Viro 399504e21a fix cgroup_do_mount() handling of failure exits
same story as with last May fixes in sysfs (7b745a4e40
"unfuck sysfs_mount()"); new_sb is left uninitialized
in case of early errors in kernfs_mount_ns() and papering
over it by treating any error from kernfs_mount_ns() as
equivalent to !new_ns ends up conflating the cases when
objects had never been transferred to a superblock with
ones when that has happened and resulting new superblock
had been dropped.  Easily fixed (same way as in sysfs
case).  Additionally, there's a superblock leak on
kernfs_node_dentry() failure *and* a dentry leak inside
kernfs_node_dentry() itself - the latter on probably
impossible errors, but the former not impossible to trigger
(as the matter of fact, injecting allocation failures
at that point *does* trigger it).

Radu Rendec 03c0a9208b kernfs: Improve kernfs_notify() poll notification latency
kernfs_notify() does two notifications: poll and fsnotify. Originally,
both notifications were done from scheduled work context and all that
kernfs_notify() did was schedule the work.

This patch simply moves the poll notification from the scheduled work
handler to kernfs_notify(). The fsnotify notification still needs to be
done from scheduled work context because it can sleep (it needs to lock
a mutex).

If the poll notification is time critical (the notified thread needs to
wake as quickly as possible), it's better to do it from kernfs_notify()
directly. One example is calling sysfs_notify_dirent() from a hardware
interrupt handler to wake up a thread and handle the interrupt in user
space.

Johannes Weiner 4b85afbdac mm: zero-seek shrinkers
The page cache and most shrinkable slab caches hold data that has been
read from disk, but there are some caches that only cache CPU work, such
as the dentry and inode caches of procfs and sysfs, as well as the subset
of radix tree nodes that track non-resident page cache.

Currently, all these are shrunk at the same rate: using DEFAULT_SEEKS for
the shrinker's seeks setting tells the reclaim algorithm that for every
two page cache pages scanned it should scan one slab object.

This is a bogus setting.  A virtual inode that required no IO to create is
not twice as valuable as a page cache page; shadow cache entries with
eviction distances beyond the size of memory aren't either.

In most cases, the behavior in practice is still fine.  Such virtual
caches don't tend to grow and assert themselves aggressively, and usually
get picked up before they cause problems.  But there are scenarios where
that's not true.

Our database workloads suffer from two of those.  For one, their file
workingset is several times bigger than available memory, which has the
kernel aggressively create shadow page cache entries for the non-resident
parts of it.  The workingset code does tell the VM that most of these are
expendable, but the VM ends up balancing them 2:1 to cache pages as per
the seeks setting.  This is a huge waste of memory.

These workloads also deal with tens of thousands of open files and use
/proc for introspection, which ends up growing the proc_inode_cache to
absurdly large sizes - again at the cost of valuable cache space, which
isn't a reasonable trade-off, given that proc inodes can be re-created
without involving the disk.

This patch implements a "zero-seek" setting for shrinkers that results in
a target ratio of 0:1 between their objects and IO-backed caches.  This
allows such virtual caches to grow when memory is available (they do
cache/avoid CPU work after all), but effectively disables them as soon as
IO-backed objects are under pressure.

It then switches the shrinkers for procfs and sysfs metadata, as well as
excess page cache shadow nodes, to the new zero-seek setting.

Bernd Edlinger a75e78f21f kernfs: Fix range checks in kernfs_get_target_path
The terminating NUL byte is only there because the buffer is
allocated with kzalloc(PAGE_SIZE, GFP_KERNEL), but since the
range-check is off-by-one, and PAGE_SIZE==PATH_MAX, the
returned string may not be zero-terminated if it is exactly
PATH_MAX characters long.  Furthermore also the initial loop
may theoretically exceed PATH_MAX and cause a fault.

Dmitry Torokhov 488dee96bb kernfs: allow creating kernfs objects with arbitrary uid/gid
This change allows creating kernfs files and directories with arbitrary
uid/gid instead of always using GLOBAL_ROOT_UID/GID by extending
kernfs_create_dir_ns() and kernfs_create_file_ns() with uid/gid arguments.
The "simple" kernfs_create_file() and kernfs_create_dir() are left alone
and always create objects belonging to the global root.

When creating symlinks ownership (uid/gid) is taken from the target kernfs
object.

Linus Torvalds 7a932516f5 vfs/y2038: inode timestamps conversion to timespec64
This is a late set of changes from Deepa Dinamani doing an automated
 treewide conversion of the inode and iattr structures from 'timespec'
 to 'timespec64', to push the conversion from the VFS layer into the
 individual file systems.
 
 There were no conflicts between this and the contents of linux-next
 until just before the merge window, when we saw multiple problems:
 
 - A minor conflict with my own y2038 fixes, which I could address
   by adding another patch on top here.
 - One semantic conflict with late changes to the NFS tree. I addressed
   this by merging Deepa's original branch on top of the changes that
   now got merged into mainline and making sure the merge commit includes
   the necessary changes as produced by coccinelle.
 - A trivial conflict against the removal of staging/lustre.
 - Multiple conflicts against the VFS changes in the overlayfs tree.
   These are still part of linux-next, but apparently this is no longer
   intended for 4.18 [1], so I am ignoring that part.
 
 As Deepa writes:
 
   The series aims to switch vfs timestamps to use struct timespec64.
   Currently vfs uses struct timespec, which is not y2038 safe.
 
   The series involves the following:
   1. Add vfs helper functions for supporting struct timepec64 timestamps.
   2. Cast prints of vfs timestamps to avoid warnings after the switch.

Deepa Dinamani 95582b0083 vfs: change inode times to use struct timespec64
struct timespec is not y2038 safe. Transition vfs to use
y2038 safe struct timespec64 instead.

The change was made with the help of the following cocinelle
script. This catches about 80% of the changes.
All the header file and logic changes are included in the
first 5 rules. The rest are trivial substitutions.
I avoid changing any of the function signatures or any other
filesystem specific data structures to keep the patch simple
for review.

The script can be a little shorter by combining different cases.
But, this version was sufficient for my usecase.

Souptick Joarder 9ee84466b7 fs: kernfs: Adding new return type vm_fault_t
Use new return type vm_fault_t for page_mkwrite and
fault handler. For now, this is just documenting that
the function returns a VM_FAULT value rather than an
errno.  Once all instances are converted, vm_fault_t
will become a distinct type.

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

 "This introduces a __bitwise type for POLL### bitmap, and propagates
  the annotations through the tree. Most of that stuff is as simple as
  'make ->poll() instances return __poll_t and do the same to local
  variables used to hold the future return value'.

  Some of the obvious brainos found in process are fixed (e.g. POLLIN
  misspelled as POLL_IN). At that point the amount of sparse warnings is
  low and most of them are for genuine bugs - e.g. ->poll() instance
  deciding to return -EINVAL instead of a bitmap. I hadn't touched those
  in this series - it's large enough as it is.

  Another problem it has caught was eventpoll() ABI mess; select.c and
  eventpoll.c assumed that corresponding POLL### and EPOLL### were
  equal. That's true for some, but not all of them - EPOLL### are
  arch-independent, but POLL### are not.

  The last commit in this series separates userland POLL### values from
  the (now arch-independent) kernel-side ones, converting between them
  in the few places where they are copied to/from userland. AFAICS, this
  is the least disruptive fix preserving poll(2) ABI and making epoll()
  work on all architectures.

  As it is, it's simply broken on sparc - try to give it EPOLLWRNORM and
  it will trigger only on what would've triggered EPOLLWRBAND on other
  architectures. EPOLLWRBAND and EPOLLRDHUP, OTOH, are never triggered
  at all on sparc. With this patch they should work consistently on all
  architectures"

Linus Torvalds 1751e8a6cb Rename superblock flags (MS_xyz -> SB_xyz)
This is a pure automated search-and-replace of the internal kernel
superblock flags.

The s_flags are now called SB_*, with the names and the values for the
moment mirroring the MS_* flags that they're equivalent to.

Note how the MS_xyz flags are the ones passed to the mount system call,
while the SB_xyz flags are what we then use in sb->s_flags.

The script to do this was:

Waiman Long 39bf04db6b kernfs: Clarify lockdep name for kn->count
The reference count in kernfs_node structure is treated like a rwsem by
using lockdep instrumentation code. The lockdep name, however, is still
"s_active" which is carried over from the old sysfs code. As s_active
is no longer the variable name, its use may confuse users on where the
lock is when it is reported by lockdep. So it is changed to "kn->count"
which is how this variable is normally referenced in kernfs code.

Shaohua Li 69fd5c3917 blktrace: add an option to allow displaying cgroup path
By default we output cgroup id in blktrace. This adds an option to
display cgroup path. Since get cgroup path is a relativly heavy
operation, we don't enable it by default.

with the option enabled, blktrace will output something like this:

Shaohua Li aa81882534 kernfs: add exportfs operations
Now we have the facilities to implement exportfs operations. The idea is
cgroup can export the fhandle info to userspace, then userspace uses
fhandle to find the cgroup name. Another example is userspace can get
fhandle for a cgroup and BPF uses the fhandle to filter info for the
cgroup.

Shaohua Li 319ba91d35 kernfs: don't set dentry->d_fsdata
When working on adding exportfs operations in kernfs, I found it's hard
to initialize dentry->d_fsdata in the exportfs operations. Looks there
is no way to do it without race condition. Look at the kernfs code
closely, there is no point to set dentry->d_fsdata. inode->i_private
already points to kernfs_node, and we can get inode from a dentry. So
this patch just delete the d_fsdata usage.

This API will be used in blktrace too later, so it should be as fast as
possible. To make the API lock free, kernfs node is freed in RCU

stale kernfs nodes.

Shaohua Li 4a3ef68aca kernfs: implement i_generation
Set i_generation for kernfs inode. This is required to implement
exportfs operations. The generation is 32-bit, so it's possible the
generation wraps up and we find stale files. To reduce the posssibility,
we don't reuse inode numer immediately. When the inode number allocation
wraps, we increase generation number. In this way generation/inode
number consist of a 64-bit number which is unlikely duplicated. This
does make the idr tree more sparse and waste some memory. Since idr
manages 32-bit keys, idr uses a 6-level radix tree, each level covers 6
bits of the key. In a 100k inode kernfs, the worst case will have around
300k radix tree node. Each node is 576bytes, so the tree will use about
~150M memory. Sounds not too bad, if this really is a problem, we should
find better data structure.

Vaibhav Jain 966fa72a71 kernfs: Check KERNFS_HAS_RELEASE before calling kernfs_release_file()
Recently started seeing a kernel oops when a module tries removing a
memory mapped sysfs bin_attribute. On closer investigation the root
cause seems to be kernfs_release_file() trying to call
kernfs_op.release() callback that's NULL for such sysfs
bin_attributes. The oops occurs when kernfs_release_file() is called from
kernfs_drain_open_files() to cleanup any open handles with active
memory mappings.

The patch fixes this by checking for flag KERNFS_HAS_RELEASE before
calling kernfs_release_file() in function kernfs_drain_open_files().

On ppc64-le arch with cxl module the oops back-trace is of the

David Howells a528d35e8b statx: Add a system call to make enhanced file info available
Add a system call to make extended file information available, including
file creation and some attribute flags where available through the
underlying filesystem.

The getattr inode operation is altered to take two additional arguments: a
u32 request_mask and an unsigned int flags that indicate the
synchronisation mode.  This change is propagated to the vfs_getattr*()
function.

Functions like vfs_stat() are now inline wrappers around new functions
vfs_statx() and vfs_statx_fd() to reduce stack usage.

========
OVERVIEW
========

The idea was initially proposed as a set of xattrs that could be retrieved
with getxattr(), but the general preference proved to be for a new syscall
with an extended stat structure.

A number of requests were gathered for features to be included.  The
following have been included:

 (1) Make the fields a consistent size on all arches and make them large.

 (2) Spare space, request flags and information flags are provided for
     future expansion.

 (3) Better support for the y2038 problem [Arnd Bergmann] (tv_sec is an
     __s64).

 (4) Creation time: The SMB protocol carries the creation time, which could
     be exported by Samba, which will in turn help CIFS make use of
     FS-Cache as that can be used for coherency data (stx_btime).

     This is also specified in NFSv4 as a recommended attribute and could
     be exported by NFSD [Steve French].

 (5) Lightweight stat: Ask for just those details of interest, and allow a
     netfs (such as NFS) to approximate anything not of interest, possibly
     without going to the server [Trond Myklebust, Ulrich Drepper, Andreas
     Dilger] (AT_STATX_DONT_SYNC).

 (6) Heavyweight stat: Force a netfs to go to the server, even if it thinks
     its cached attributes are up to date [Trond Myklebust]
     (AT_STATX_FORCE_SYNC).

And the following have been left out for future extension:

 (7) Data version number: Could be used by userspace NFS servers [Aneesh
     Kumar].

     Can also be used to modify fill_post_wcc() in NFSD which retrieves
     i_version directly, but has just called vfs_getattr().  It could get
     it from the kstat struct if it used vfs_xgetattr() instead.

     (There's disagreement on the exact semantics of a single field, since
     not all filesystems do this the same way).

 (8) BSD stat compatibility: Including more fields from the BSD stat such
     as creation time (st_btime) and inode generation number (st_gen)
     [Jeremy Allison, Bernd Schubert].

 (9) Inode generation number: Useful for FUSE and userspace NFS servers
     [Bernd Schubert].

     (This was asked for but later deemed unnecessary with the
     open-by-handle capability available and caused disagreement as to
     whether it's a security hole or not).

(10) Extra coherency data may be useful in making backups [Andreas Dilger].

     (No particular data were offered, but things like last backup
     timestamp, the data version number and the DOS archive bit would come
     into this category).

(11) Allow the filesystem to indicate what it can/cannot provide: A
     filesystem can now say it doesn't support a standard stat feature if
     that isn't available, so if, for instance, inode numbers or UIDs don't
     exist or are fabricated locally...

     (This requires a separate system call - I have an fsinfo() call idea
     for this).

(12) Store a 16-byte volume ID in the superblock that can be returned in
     struct xstat [Steve French].

     (Deferred to fsinfo).

(13) Include granularity fields in the time data to indicate the
     granularity of each of the times (NFSv4 time_delta) [Steve French].

     (Deferred to fsinfo).

(14) FS_IOC_GETFLAGS value.  These could be translated to BSD's st_flags.
     Note that the Linux IOC flags are a mess and filesystems such as Ext4
     define flags that aren't in linux/fs.h, so translation in the kernel
     may be a necessity (or, possibly, we provide the filesystem type too).

     (Some attributes are made available in stx_attributes, but the general
     feeling was that the IOC flags were to ext[234]-specific and shouldn't
     be exposed through statx this way).

(15) Mask of features available on file (eg: ACLs, seclabel) [Brad Boyer,
     Michael Kerrisk].

     (Deferred, probably to fsinfo.  Finding out if there's an ACL or
     seclabal might require extra filesystem operations).

(16) Femtosecond-resolution timestamps [Dave Chinner].

     (A __reserved field has been left in the statx_timestamp struct for
     this - if there proves to be a need).

(17) A set multiple attributes syscall to go with this.

===============
NEW SYSTEM CALL
===============

The new system call is:

The dfd, filename and flags parameters indicate the file to query, in a
similar way to fstatat().  There is no equivalent of lstat() as that can be
emulated with statx() by passing AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW in flags.  There is
also no equivalent of fstat() as that can be emulated by passing a NULL
filename to statx() with the fd of interest in dfd.

Whether or not statx() synchronises the attributes with the backing store
can be controlled by OR'ing a value into the flags argument (this typically
only affects network filesystems):

 (1) AT_STATX_SYNC_AS_STAT tells statx() to behave as stat() does in this
     respect.

 (2) AT_STATX_FORCE_SYNC will require a network filesystem to synchronise
     its attributes with the server - which might require data writeback to
     occur to get the timestamps correct.

 (3) AT_STATX_DONT_SYNC will suppress synchronisation with the server in a
     network filesystem.  The resulting values should be considered
     approximate.

mask is a bitmask indicating the fields in struct statx that are of
interest to the caller.  The user should set this to STATX_BASIC_STATS to
get the basic set returned by stat().  It should be noted that asking for
more information may entail extra I/O operations.

buffer points to the destination for the data.  This must be 256 bytes in
size.

stx_btime is the file creation time, stx_mask is a bitmask indicating the
data provided and __spares*[] are where as-yet undefined fields can be
placed.

Time fields are structures with separate seconds and nanoseconds fields
plus a reserved field in case we want to add even finer resolution.  Note
that times will be negative if before 1970; in such a case, the nanosecond
fields will also be negative if not zero.

The bits defined in the stx_attributes field convey information about a
file, how it is accessed, where it is and what it does.  The following
attributes map to FS_*_FL flags and are the same numerical value:

	STATX_ATTR_COMPRESSED		File is compressed by the fs
	STATX_ATTR_IMMUTABLE		File is marked immutable
	STATX_ATTR_APPEND		File is append-only
	STATX_ATTR_NODUMP		File is not to be dumped
	STATX_ATTR_ENCRYPTED		File requires key to decrypt in fs

Within the kernel, the supported flags are listed by:

	KSTAT_ATTR_FS_IOC_FLAGS

[Are any other IOC flags of sufficient general interest to be exposed
through this interface?]

New flags include:

	STATX_ATTR_AUTOMOUNT		Object is an automount trigger

These are for the use of GUI tools that might want to mark files specially,
depending on what they are.

Fields in struct statx come in a number of classes:

 (0) stx_dev_*, stx_blksize.

     These are local system information and are always available.

 (1) stx_mode, stx_nlinks, stx_uid, stx_gid, stx_[amc]time, stx_ino,
     stx_size, stx_blocks.

     These will be returned whether the caller asks for them or not.  The
     corresponding bits in stx_mask will be set to indicate whether they
     actually have valid values.

     If the caller didn't ask for them, then they may be approximated.  For
     example, NFS won't waste any time updating them from the server,
     unless as a byproduct of updating something requested.

     If the values don't actually exist for the underlying object (such as
     UID or GID on a DOS file), then the bit won't be set in the stx_mask,
     even if the caller asked for the value.  In such a case, the returned
     value will be a fabrication.

     Note that there are instances where the type might not be valid, for
     instance Windows reparse points.

 (2) stx_rdev_*.

     This will be set only if stx_mode indicates we're looking at a
     blockdev or a chardev, otherwise will be 0.

 (3) stx_btime.

     Similar to (1), except this will be set to 0 if it doesn't exist.

TESTING
=======

The following test program can be used to test the statx system call:

Just compile and run, passing it paths to the files you want to examine.

Tejun Heo f83f3c5156 kernfs: fix locking around kernfs_ops->release() callback
The release callback may be called from two places - file release
operation and kernfs open file draining.  kernfs_open_file->mutex is
used to synchronize the two callsites.  This unfortunately leads to
possible circular locking because of->mutex is used to protect the
usual kernfs operations which may use locking constructs which are
held while removing and thus draining kernfs files.

@of->mutex is for synchronizing concurrent kernfs access operations
and all we need here is synchronization between the releaes and drain
paths.  As the drain path has to grab kernfs_open_file_mutex anyway,
let's use the mutex to synchronize the release operation instead.

Tony Luck 2a9becdd4d kernfs: Add noop_fsync to supported kernfs_file_fops
If you edit a kernfs backed file with vi(1), you see an ugly error
message when you write the file because vi tries to fsync(2) the
file after writing, which fails.

Deepa Dinamani c2050a454c fs: Replace current_fs_time() with current_time()
current_fs_time() uses struct super_block* as an argument.
As per Linus's suggestion, this is changed to take struct
inode* as a parameter instead. This is because the function
is primarily meant for vfs inode timestamps.
Also the function was renamed as per Arnd's suggestion.

Change all calls to current_fs_time() to use the new
current_time() function instead. current_fs_time() will be

Miklos Szeredi 1cd66c93ba fs: make remaining filesystems use .rename2
This is trivial to do:

 - add flags argument to foo_rename()
 - check if flags is zero
 - assign foo_rename() to .rename2 instead of .rename

This doesn't mean it's impossible to support RENAME_NOREPLACE for these
filesystems, but it is not trivial, like for local filesystems.
RENAME_NOREPLACE must guarantee atomicity (i.e. it shouldn't be possible
for a file to be created on one host while it is overwritten by rename on
another host).

Filesystems converted:

9p, afs, ceph, coda, ecryptfs, kernfs, lustre, ncpfs, nfs, ocfs2, orangefs.

After this, we can get rid of the duplicate interfaces for rename.

Tejun Heo df6a58c5c5 kernfs: don't depend on d_find_any_alias() when generating notifications
kernfs_notify_workfn() sends out file modified events for the
scheduled kernfs_nodes.  Because the modifications aren't from
userland, it doesn't have the matching file struct at hand and can't
use fsnotify_modify().  Instead, it looked up the inode and then used
d_find_any_alias() to find the dentry and used fsnotify_parent() and
fsnotify() directly to generate notifications.

The assumption was that the relevant dentries would have been pinned
if there are listeners, which isn't true as inotify doesn't pin
dentries at all and watching the parent doesn't pin the child dentries
even for dnotify.  This led to, for example, inotify watchers not
getting notifications if the system is under memory pressure and the
matching dentries got reclaimed.  It can also be triggered through
/proc/sys/vm/drop_caches or a remount attempt which involves shrinking
dcache.

fsnotify_parent() only uses the dentry to access the parent inode,
which kernfs can do easily.  Update kernfs_notify_workfn() so that it
uses fsnotify() directly for both the parent and target inodes without
going through d_find_any_alias().  While at it, supply the target file
name to fsnotify() from kernfs_node->name.

Tejun Heo 3abb1d90f5 kernfs: make kernfs_path*() behave in the style of strlcpy()
kernfs_path*() functions always return the length of the full path but
the path content is undefined if the length is larger than the
provided buffer.  This makes its behavior different from strlcpy() and
requires error handling in all its users even when they don't care
about truncation.  In addition, the implementation can actully be
simplified by making it behave properly in strlcpy() style.

* Update kernfs_path_from_node_locked() to always fill up the buffer
  with path.  If the buffer is not large enough, the output is
  truncated and terminated.

* kernfs_path() no longer needs error handling.  Make it a simple
  inline wrapper around kernfs_path_from_node().

* sysfs_warn_dup()'s use of kernfs_path() doesn't need error handling.
  Updated accordingly.

* cgroup_path()'s use of kernfs_path() updated to retain the old
  behavior.

 "This tree contains some very long awaited work on generalizing the
  user namespace support for mounting filesystems to include filesystems
  with a backing store.  The real world target is fuse but the goal is
  to update the vfs to allow any filesystem to be supported.  This
  patchset is based on a lot of code review and testing to approach that
  goal.

  While looking at what is needed to support the fuse filesystem it
  became clear that there were things like xattrs for security modules
  that needed special treatment.  That the resolution of those concerns
  would not be fuse specific.  That sorting out these general issues
  made most sense at the generic level, where the right people could be
  drawn into the conversation, and the issues could be solved for
  everyone.

  At a high level what this patchset does a couple of simple things:

   - Add a user namespace owner (s_user_ns) to struct super_block.

   - Teach the vfs to handle filesystem uids and gids not mapping into
     to kuids and kgids and being reported as INVALID_UID and
     INVALID_GID in vfs data structures.

  By assigning a user namespace owner filesystems that are mounted with
  only user namespace privilege can be detected.  This allows security
  modules and the like to know which mounts may not be trusted.  This
  also allows the set of uids and gids that are communicated to the
  filesystem to be capped at the set of kuids and kgids that are in the
  owning user namespace of the filesystem.

  One of the crazier corner casees this handles is the case of inodes
  whose i_uid or i_gid are not mapped into the vfs.  Most of the code
  simply doesn't care but it is easy to confuse the inode writeback path
  so no operation that could cause an inode write-back is permitted for
  such inodes (aka only reads are allowed).

  This set of changes starts out by cleaning up the code paths involved
  in user namespace permirted mounts.  Then when things are clean enough
  adds code that cleanly sets s_user_ns.  Then additional restrictions
  are added that are possible now that the filesystem superblock
  contains owner information.

  These changes should not affect anyone in practice, but there are some
  parts of these restrictions that are changes in behavior.

   - Andy's restriction on suid executables that does not honor the
     suid bit when the path is from another mount namespace (think
     /proc/[pid]/fd/) or when the filesystem was mounted by a less
     privileged user.

   - The replacement of the user namespace implicit setting of MNT_NODEV
     with implicitly setting SB_I_NODEV on the filesystem superblock
     instead.

     Using SB_I_NODEV is a stronger form that happens to make this state
     user invisible.  The user visibility can be managed but it caused
     problems when it was introduced from applications reasonably
     expecting mount flags to be what they were set to.

  There is a little bit of work remaining before it is safe to support
  mounting filesystems with backing store in user namespaces, beyond
  what is in this set of changes.

   - Verifying the mounter has permission to read/write the block device
     during mount.

   - Teaching the integrity modules IMA and EVM to handle filesystems
     mounted with only user namespace root and to reduce trust in their
     security xattrs accordingly.

   - Capturing the mounters credentials and using that for permission
     checks in d_automount and the like.  (Given that overlayfs already
     does this, and we need the work in d_automount it make sense to
     generalize this case).

  Furthermore there are a few changes that are on the wishlist:

   - Get all filesystems supporting posix acls using the generic posix
     acls so that posix_acl_fix_xattr_from_user and

Eric W. Biederman a2982cc922 vfs: Generalize filesystem nodev handling.
Introduce a function may_open_dev that tests MNT_NODEV and a new
superblock flab SB_I_NODEV.  Use this new function in all of the
places where MNT_NODEV was previously tested.

Add the new SB_I_NODEV s_iflag to proc, sysfs, and mqueuefs as those
filesystems should never support device nodes, and a simple superblock
flags makes that very hard to get wrong.  With SB_I_NODEV set if any
device nodes somehow manage to show up on on a filesystem those
device nodes will be unopenable.

Eric W. Biederman 29a517c232 kernfs: The cgroup filesystem also benefits from SB_I_NOEXEC
The cgroup filesystem is in the same boat as sysfs.  No one ever
permits executables of any kind on the cgroup filesystem, and there is
no reasonable future case to support executables in the future.

Therefore move the setting of SB_I_NOEXEC which makes the code proof
against future mistakes of accidentally creating executables from
sysfs to kernfs itself.  Making the code simpler and covering the
sysfs, cgroup, and cgroup2 filesystems.

Eric W. Biederman 6e4eab577a fs: Add user namespace member to struct super_block
Start marking filesystems with a user namespace owner, s_user_ns.  In
this change this is only used for permission checks of who may mount a
filesystem.  Ultimately s_user_ns will be used for translating ids and
checking capabilities for filesystems mounted from user namespaces.

The default policy for setting s_user_ns is implemented in sget(),
which arranges for s_user_ns to be set to current_user_ns() and to
ensure that the mounter of the filesystem has CAP_SYS_ADMIN in that
user_ns.

The guts of sget are split out into another function sget_userns().
The function sget_userns calls alloc_super with the specified user
namespace or it verifies the existing superblock that was found
has the expected user namespace, and fails with EBUSY when it is not.
This failing prevents users with the wrong privileges mounting a
filesystem.

The reason for the split of sget_userns from sget is that in some
cases such as mount_ns and kernfs_mount_ns a different policy for
permission checking of mounts and setting s_user_ns is necessary, and
the existence of sget_userns() allows those policies to be
implemented.

The helper mount_ns is expected to be used for filesystems such as
proc and mqueuefs which present per namespace information.  The
function mount_ns is modified to call sget_userns instead of sget to
ensure the user namespace owner of the namespace whose information is
presented by the filesystem is used on the superblock.

For sysfs and cgroup the appropriate permission checks are already in
place, and kernfs_mount_ns is modified to call sget_userns so that
the init_user_ns is the only user namespace used.

For the cgroup filesystem cgroup namespace mounts are bind mounts of a
subset of the full cgroup filesystem and as such s_user_ns must be the
same for all of them as there is only a single superblock.

Mounts of sysfs that vary based on the network namespace could in principle
change s_user_ns but it keeps the analysis and implementation of kernfs
simpler if that is not supported, and at present there appear to be no
benefits from supporting a different s_user_ns on any sysfs mount.

Getting the details of setting s_user_ns correct has been
a long process.  Thanks to Pavel Tikhorirorv who spotted a leak
in sget_userns.  Thanks to Seth Forshee who has kept the work alive.

Linus Torvalds 8387ff2577 vfs: make the string hashes salt the hash
We always mixed in the parent pointer into the dentry name hash, but we
did it late at lookup time.  It turns out that we can simplify that
lookup-time action by salting the hash with the parent pointer early
instead of late.

A few other users of our string hashes also wanted to mix in their own
pointers into the hash, and those are updated to use the same mechanism.

Hash users that don't have any particular initial salt can just use the
NULL pointer as a no-salt.

Al Viro 3767e255b3 switch ->setxattr() to passing dentry and inode separately
smack ->d_instantiate() uses ->setxattr(), so to be able to call it before
we'd hashed the new dentry and attached it to inode, we need ->setxattr()
instances getting the inode as an explicit argument rather than obtaining
it from dentry.

Similar change for ->getxattr() had been done in commit ce23e64.  Unlike
->getxattr() (which is used by both selinux and smack instances of
->d_instantiate()) ->setxattr() is used only by smack one and unfortunately
it got missed back then.

Linus Torvalds 7f427d3a60 Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs
Pull parallel filesystem directory handling update from Al Viro.

This is the main parallel directory work by Al that makes the vfs layer
able to do lookup and readdir in parallel within a single directory.
That's a big change, since this used to be all protected by the
directory inode mutex.

The inode mutex is replaced by an rwsem, and serialization of lookups of
a single name is done by a "in-progress" dentry marker.

The series begins with xattr cleanups, and then ends with switching
filesystems over to actually doing the readdir in parallel (switching to
the "iterate_shared()" that only takes the read lock).

A more detailed explanation of the process from Al Viro:
 "The xattr work starts with some acl fixes, then switches ->getxattr to
  passing inode and dentry separately.  This is the point where the
  things start to get tricky - that got merged into the very beginning
  of the -rc3-based #work.lookups, to allow untangling the
  security_d_instantiate() mess.  The xattr work itself proceeds to
  switch a lot of filesystems to generic_...xattr(); no complications
  there.

  After that initial xattr work, the series then does the following:

   - untangle security_d_instantiate()

   - convert a bunch of open-coded lookup_one_len_unlocked() to calls of
     that thing; one such place (in overlayfs) actually yields a trivial
     conflict with overlayfs fixes later in the cycle - overlayfs ended
     up switching to a variant of lookup_one_len_unlocked() sans the
     permission checks.  I would've dropped that commit (it gets
     overridden on merge from #ovl-fixes in #for-next; proper resolution
     is to use the variant in mainline fs/overlayfs/super.c), but I
     didn't want to rebase the damn thing - it was fairly late in the
     cycle...

   - some filesystems had managed to depend on lookup/lookup exclusion
     for *fs-internal* data structures in a way that would break if we
     relaxed the VFS exclusion.  Fixing hadn't been hard, fortunately.

   - core of that series - parallel lookup machinery, replacing
     ->i_mutex with rwsem, making lookup_slow() take it only shared.  At
     that point lookups happen in parallel; lookups on the same name
     wait for the in-progress one to be done with that dentry.

     Surprisingly little code, at that - almost all of it is in
     fs/dcache.c, with fs/namei.c changes limited to lookup_slow() -
     making it use the new primitive and actually switching to locking
     shared.

   - parallel readdir stuff - first of all, we provide the exclusion on
     per-struct file basis, same as we do for read() vs lseek() for
     regular files.  That takes care of most of the needed exclusion in
     readdir/readdir; however, these guys are trickier than lookups, so
     I went for switching them one-by-one.  To do that, a new method
     '->iterate_shared()' is added and filesystems are switched to it
     as they are either confirmed to be OK with shared lock on directory
     or fixed to be OK with that.  I hope to kill the original method
     come next cycle (almost all in-tree filesystems are switched
     already), but it's still not quite finished.

   - several filesystems get switched to parallel readdir.  The
     interesting part here is dealing with dcache preseeding by readdir;
     that needs minor adjustment to be safe with directory locked only
     shared.

     Most of the filesystems doing that got switched to in those
     commits.  Important exception: NFS.  Turns out that NFS folks, with
     their, er, insistence on VFS getting the fuck out of the way of the
     Smart Filesystem Code That Knows How And What To Lock(tm) have
     grown the locking of their own.  They had their own homegrown
     rwsem, with lookup/readdir/atomic_open being *writers* (sillyunlink
     is the reader there).  Of course, with VFS getting the fuck out of
     the way, as requested, the actual smarts of the smart filesystem
     code etc. had become exposed...

   - do_last/lookup_open/atomic_open cleanups.  As the result, open()
     without O_CREAT locks the directory only shared.  Including the
     ->atomic_open() case.  Backmerge from #for-linus in the middle of
     that - atomic_open() fix got brought in.

   - then comes NFS switch to saner (VFS-based ;-) locking, killing the
     homegrown "lookup and readdir are writers" kinda-sorta rwsem.  All
     exclusion for sillyunlink/lookup is done by the parallel lookups
     mechanism.  Exclusion between sillyunlink and rmdir is a real rwsem
     now - rmdir being the writer.

     Result: NFS lookups/readdirs/O_CREAT-less opens happen in parallel
     now.

   - the rest of the series consists of switching a lot of filesystems
     to parallel readdir; in a lot of cases ->llseek() gets simplified
     as well.  One backmerge in there (again, #for-linus - rockridge
     fix)"

Patch summary:

When showing a cgroupfs entry in mountinfo, show the path of the mount
root dentry relative to the reader's cgroup namespace root.

Short explanation (courtesy of mkerrisk):

If we create a new cgroup namespace, then we want both /proc/self/cgroup
and /proc/self/mountinfo to show cgroup paths that are correctly
virtualized with respect to the cgroup mount point.  Previous to this
patch, /proc/self/cgroup shows the right info, but /proc/self/mountinfo
does not.

Long version:

When a uid 0 task which is in freezer cgroup /a/b, unshares a new cgroup
namespace, and then mounts a new instance of the freezer cgroup, the new
mount will be rooted at /a/b.  The root dentry field of the mountinfo
entry will show '/a/b'.

However in this case the task will find its own cgroup at /mnt/a/b,
not at /mnt:

In other words, there is no way for the task to know, based on what is

of the "unshare" utility, which takes the same options as the util-linux

The third entry in /proc/self/cgroup (the pathname of the cgroup inside
the hierarchy) is correctly virtualized w.r.t. the cgroup namespace, which
is rooted at /a/b in the outer namespace.

However, the info in /proc/self/mountinfo is not for this cgroup
namespace, since we are seeing a duplicate of the mount from the
old mount namespace, and the info there does not correspond to the
new cgroup namespace. However, trying to create a new mount still
doesn't show us the right information in mountinfo:

The act of creating a new cgroup namespace caused the process's
current freezer directory, "/a/b", to become its cgroup freezer root
directory. In other words, the pathname directory of the directory
within the newly mounted cgroup filesystem should be "/",
but mountinfo wrongly shows us "/a/b". The consequence of this is
that the process in the cgroup namespace cannot correctly construct
the pathname of its cgroup root directory from the information in
/proc/PID/mountinfo.

With this patch, the dentry root field in mountinfo is shown relative
to the reader's cgroup namespace.  So the same steps as above:

        /proc/self/cgroup:      10:freezer:/a/b
        mountinfo:              /       /sys/fs/cgroup/freezer
        /proc/self/cgroup:      10:freezer:/

Serge Hallyn e99ed4de17 kernfs_path_from_node_locked: don't overwrite nlen
We've calculated @len to be the bytes we need for '/..' entries from
@kn_from to the common ancestor, and calculated @nlen to be the extra
bytes we need to get from the common ancestor to @kn_to.  We use them
as such at the end.  But in the loop copying the actual entries, we
overwrite @nlen.  Use a temporary variable for that instead.

Without this, the return length, when the buffer is large enough, is
wrong.  (When the buffer is NULL or too small, the returned value is
correct. The buffer contents are also correct.)

Interestingly, no callers of this function are affected by this as of
yet.  However the upcoming cgroup_show_path() will be.

Highly unlikely though this scenario is, we can avoid the issue entirely
by moving the copy operation from out under the kernfs_get_active()
tracking by assigning the preallocated buffer its own mutex. The
temporary buffer allocation doesn't require mutex locking as it is
entirely local.

The locked section was extended by the addition of the preallocated buf
to speed up md user operations in

Kirill A. Shutemov 09cbfeaf1a mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.

This promise never materialized.  And unlikely will.

We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE.  And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.

Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.

Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special.  They are
not.

The changes are pretty straight-forward:

 - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};

 - page_cache_get() -> get_page();

 - page_cache_release() -> put_page();

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below.  For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.

The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.

There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach.  I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch.  Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Deepa Dinamani 3a3a5fece6 fs: kernfs: Replace CURRENT_TIME by current_fs_time()
This is in preparation for the series that transitions
filesystem timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make
them y2038 safe.

CURRENT_TIME macro will be deleted before merging the
aforementioned series.

Use current_fs_time() instead of CURRENT_TIME for inode
timestamps.

struct kernfs_node is associated with a sysfs file/ directory.
Truncate the values to appropriate time granularity when
writing to inode timestamps of the files.

ktime_get_real_ts() is used to obtain times for
struct kernfs_iattrs. Since these times are later assigned to
inode times using timespec_truncate() for all filesystem based
operations, we can save the supers list traversal time here by
using ktime_get_real_ts() directly.

Tejun Heo e56ed358af kernfs: make kernfs_walk_ns() use kernfs_pr_cont_buf[]
kernfs_walk_ns() uses a static path_buf[PATH_MAX] to separate out path
components.  Keeping around the 4k buffer just for kernfs_walk_ns() is
wasteful.  This patch makes it piggyback on kernfs_pr_cont_buf[]
instead.  This requires kernfs_walk_ns() to hold kernfs_rename_lock.

Vladimir Davydov b2a209ffa6 Revert "kernfs: do not account ino_ida allocations to memcg"
Currently, all kmem allocations (namely every kmem_cache_alloc, kmalloc,
alloc_kmem_pages call) are accounted to memory cgroup automatically.
Callers have to explicitly opt out if they don't want/need accounting
for some reason.  Such a design decision leads to several problems:

 - kmalloc users are highly sensitive to failures, many of them
   implicitly rely on the fact that kmalloc never fails, while memcg
   makes failures quite plausible.

 - A lot of objects are shared among different containers by design.
   Accounting such objects to one of containers is just unfair.
   Moreover, it might lead to pinning a dead memcg along with its kmem
   caches, which aren't tiny, which might result in noticeable increase
   in memory consumption for no apparent reason in the long run.

 - There are tons of short-lived objects. Accounting them to memcg will
   only result in slight noise and won't change the overall picture, but
   we still have to pay accounting overhead.

Therefore this patchset switches to the white list policy.  Now kmalloc
users have to explicitly opt in by passing __GFP_ACCOUNT flag.

Currently, the list of accounted objects is quite limited and only
includes those allocations that (1) are known to be easily triggered
from userspace and (2) can fail gracefully (for the full list see patch
no.  6) and it still misses many object types.  However, accounting only
those objects should be a satisfactory approximation of the behavior we
used to have for most sane workloads.

This patch (of 6):

Revert 499611ed45 ("kernfs: do not account ino_ida allocations
to memcg").

Black-list kmem accounting policy (aka __GFP_NOACCOUNT) turned out to be
fragile and difficult to maintain, because there seem to be many more
allocations that should not be accounted than those that should be.
Besides, false accounting an allocation might result in much worse
consequences than not accounting at all, namely increased memory
consumption due to pinned dead kmem caches.

So it was decided to switch to the white-list policy.  This patch reverts
bits introducing the black-list policy.  The white-list policy will be
introduced later in the series.

Al Viro 6b2553918d replace ->follow_link() with new method that could stay in RCU mode
new method: ->get_link(); replacement of ->follow_link().  The differences
are:
	* inode and dentry are passed separately
	* might be called both in RCU and non-RCU mode;
the former is indicated by passing it a NULL dentry.
	* when called that way it isn't allowed to block
and should return ERR_PTR(-ECHILD) if it needs to be called
in non-RCU mode.

It's a flagday change - the old method is gone, all in-tree instances
converted.  Conversion isn't hard; said that, so far very few instances
do not immediately bail out when called in RCU mode.  That'll change
in the next commits.

Andreas Gruenbacher aa7c5241c3 tmpfs: Use xattr handler infrastructure
Use the VFS xattr handler infrastructure and get rid of similar code in
the filesystem.  For implementing shmem_xattr_handler_set, we need a
version of simple_xattr_set which removes the attribute when value is
NULL.  Use this to implement kernfs_iop_removexattr as well.

 "Long ago and far away when user namespaces where young it was realized
  that allowing fresh mounts of proc and sysfs with only user namespace
  permissions could violate the basic rule that only root gets to decide
  if proc or sysfs should be mounted at all.

  Some hacks were put in place to reduce the worst of the damage could
  be done, and the common sense rule was adopted that fresh mounts of
  proc and sysfs should allow no more than bind mounts of proc and
  sysfs.  Unfortunately that rule has not been fully enforced.

  There are two kinds of gaps in that enforcement.  Only filesystems
  mounted on empty directories of proc and sysfs should be ignored but
  the test for empty directories was insufficient.  So in my tree
  directories on proc, sysctl and sysfs that will always be empty are
  created specially.  Every other technique is imperfect as an ordinary
  directory can have entries added even after a readdir returns and
  shows that the directory is empty.  Special creation of directories
  for mount points makes the code in the kernel a smidge clearer about
  it's purpose.  I asked container developers from the various container
  projects to help test this and no holes were found in the set of mount
  points on proc and sysfs that are created specially.

  This set of changes also starts enforcing the mount flags of fresh
  mounts of proc and sysfs are consistent with the existing mount of
  proc and sysfs.  I expected this to be the boring part of the work but
  unfortunately unprivileged userspace winds up mounting fresh copies of
  proc and sysfs with noexec and nosuid clear when root set those flags
  on the previous mount of proc and sysfs.  So for now only the atime,
  read-only and nodev attributes which userspace happens to keep
  consistent are enforced.  Dealing with the noexec and nosuid
  attributes remains for another time.

  This set of changes also addresses an issue with how open file
  descriptors from /proc/<pid>/ns/* are displayed.  Recently readlink of
  /proc/<pid>/fd has been triggering a WARN_ON that has not been
  meaningful since it was added (as all of the code in the kernel was
  converted) and is not now actively wrong.

  There is also a short list of issues that have not been fixed yet that
  I will mention briefly.

  It is possible to rename a directory from below to above a bind mount.
  At which point any directory pointers below the renamed directory can
  be walked up to the root directory of the filesystem.  With user
  namespaces enabled a bind mount of the bind mount can be created
  allowing the user to pick a directory whose children they can rename
  to outside of the bind mount.  This is challenging to fix and doubly
  so because all obvious solutions must touch code that is in the
  performance part of pathname resolution.

  As mentioned above there is also a question of how to ensure that
  developers by accident or with purpose do not introduce exectuable
  files on sysfs and proc and in doing so introduce security regressions
  in the current userspace that will not be immediately obvious and as
  such are likely to require breaking userspace in painful ways once
  they are recognized"

Tejun Heo fb02915f47 kernfs: make kernfs_get_inode() public
Move kernfs_get_inode() prototype from fs/kernfs/kernfs-internal.h to
include/linux/kernfs.h.  It obtains the matching inode for a
kernfs_node.

It will be used by cgroup for inode based permission checks for now
but is generally useful.

Vladimir Davydov 499611ed45 kernfs: do not account ino_ida allocations to memcg
root->ino_ida is used for kernfs inode number allocations. Since IDA has
a layered structure, different IDs can reside on the same layer, which
is currently accounted to some memory cgroup. The problem is that each
kmem cache of a memory cgroup has its own directory on sysfs (under
/sys/fs/kernel/<cache-name>/cgroup). If the inode number of such a
directory or any file in it gets allocated from a layer accounted to the
cgroup which the cache is created for, the cgroup will get pinned for
good, because one has to free all kmem allocations accounted to a cgroup
in order to release it and destroy all its kmem caches. That said we
must not account layers of ino_ida to any memory cgroup.

Since per net init operations may create new sysfs entries directly
(e.g. lo device) or indirectly (nf_conntrack creates a new kmem cache
per each namespace, which, in turn, creates new sysfs entries), an easy
way to reproduce this issue is by creating network namespace(s) from
inside a kmem-active memory cgroup.

Al Viro 680baacbca new ->follow_link() and ->put_link() calling conventions
a) instead of storing the symlink body (via nd_set_link()) and returning
an opaque pointer later passed to ->put_link(), ->follow_link() _stores_
that opaque pointer (into void * passed by address by caller) and returns
the symlink body.  Returning ERR_PTR() on error, NULL on jump (procfs magic
symlinks) and pointer to symlink body for normal symlinks.  Stored pointer
is ignored in all cases except the last one.

Storing NULL for opaque pointer (or not storing it at all) means no call
of ->put_link().

b) the body used to be passed to ->put_link() implicitly (via nameidata).
Now only the opaque pointer is.  In the cases when we used the symlink body
to free stuff, ->follow_link() now should store it as opaque pointer in addition
to returning it.

NeilBrown 7cff4b1836 kernfs: handle poll correctly on 'direct_read' files.
Kernfs supports two styles of read: direct_read and seqfile_read.

The latter supports 'poll' correctly thanks to the update of
'->event' in kernfs_seq_show.
The former does not as '->event' is never updated on a read.

So add an appropriate update in kernfs_file_direct_read().

This was noticed because some 'md' sysfs attributes were
recently changed to use direct reads.

Tejun Heo dfeb0750b6 kernfs: remove KERNFS_STATIC_NAME
When a new kernfs node is created, KERNFS_STATIC_NAME is used to avoid
making a separate copy of its name.  It's currently only used for sysfs
attributes whose filenames are required to stay accessible and unchanged.
There are rare exceptions where these names are allocated and formatted
dynamically but for the vast majority of cases they're consts in the
rodata section.

Now that kernfs is converted to use kstrdup_const() and kfree_const(),
there's little point in keeping KERNFS_STATIC_NAME around.  Remove it.

Rasmus Villemoes 72392ed0eb kernfs: Fix kernfs_name_compare
Returning a difference from a comparison functions is usually wrong
(see acbbe6fbb2 "kcmp: fix standard comparison bug" for the long
story). Here there is the additional twist that if the void pointers
ns and kn->ns happen to differ by a multiple of 2^32,
kernfs_name_compare returns 0, falsely reporting a match to the
caller.

Technically 'hash - kn->hash' is ok since the hashes are restricted to
31 bits, but it's better to avoid that subtlety.

 They are dominated by the removal of the .owner field in platform
 drivers.  They touch a lot of files, but they are "simple" changes, just
 removing a line in a structure.
 
 Other than that, a few minor driver core and debugfs changes.  There are
 some ath9k patches coming in through this tree that have been acked by
 the wireless maintainers as they relied on the debugfs changes.
 
 Everything has been in linux-next for a while.

 "Here's the set of driver core patches for 3.19-rc1.

  They are dominated by the removal of the .owner field in platform

  Other than that, a few minor driver core and debugfs changes.  There
  are some ath9k patches coming in through this tree that have been
  acked by the wireless maintainers as they relied on the debugfs
  changes.

NeilBrown 4ef67a8c95 sysfs/kernfs: make read requests on pre-alloc files use the buffer.
To match the previous patch which used the pre-alloc buffer for
writes, this patch causes reads to use the same buffer.
This is not strictly necessary as the current seq_read() will allocate
on first read, so user-space can trigger the required pre-alloc.  But
consistency is valuable.

The read function is somewhat simpler than seq_read() and, for example,
does not support reading from an offset into the file: reads must be
at the start of the file.

As seq_read() does not use the prealloc buffer, ->seq_show is
incompatible with ->prealloc and caused an EINVAL return from open().
sysfs code which calls into kernfs always chooses the correct function.

As the buffer is shared with writes and other reads, the mutex is
extended to cover the copy_to_user.

NeilBrown 2b75869bba sysfs/kernfs: allow attributes to request write buffer be pre-allocated.
md/raid allows metadata management to be performed in user-space.
A various times, particularly on device failure, the metadata needs
to be updated before further writes can be permitted.
This means that the user-space program which updates metadata much
not block on writeout, and so must not allocate memory.

mlockall(MCL_CURRENT|MCL_FUTURE) and pre-allocation can avoid all
memory allocation issues for user-memory, but that does not help
kernel memory.
Several kernel objects can be pre-allocated.  e.g. files opened before
any writes to the array are permitted.
However some kernel allocation happens in places that cannot be
pre-allocated.
In particular, writes to sysfs files (to tell md that it can now
allow writes to the array) allocate a buffer using GFP_KERNEL.

This patch allows attributes to be marked as "PREALLOC".  In that case
the maximal buffer is allocated when the file is opened, and then used
on each write instead of allocating a new buffer.

As the same buffer is now shared for all writes on the same file
description, the mutex is extended to cover full use of the buffer
including the copy_from_user().

The new __ATTR_PREALLOC() 'or's a new flag in to the 'mode', which is
inspected by sysfs_add_file_mode_ns() to determine if the file should be
marked as requiring prealloc.

Despite the comment, we *do* use ->seq_show together with ->prealloc
in this patch.  The next patch fixes that.

Tejun Heo ecca47ce82 kernfs: kernfs_notify() must be useable from non-sleepable contexts
d911d98748 ("kernfs: make kernfs_notify() trigger inotify events
too") added fsnotify triggering to kernfs_notify() which requires a
sleepable context.  There are already existing users of

This patch fixes it by punting the notification delivery through a
work item.  This ends up adding an extra pointer to kernfs_elem_attr
enlarging kernfs_node by a pointer, which is not ideal but not a very
big deal either.  If this turns out to be an actual issue, we can move
kernfs_elem_attr->size to kernfs_node->iattr later.

There is still one residue of sysfs remaining: the sb_magic
SYSFS_MAGIC. However this should be kernfs user specific,

Tejun Heo 555724a831 kernfs, sysfs, cgroup: restrict extra perm check on open to sysfs
The kernfs open method - kernfs_fop_open() - inherited extra
permission checks from sysfs.  While the vfs layer allows ignoring the
read/write permissions checks if the issuer has CAP_DAC_OVERRIDE,
sysfs explicitly denied open regardless of the cap if the file doesn't
have any of the UGO perms of the requested access or doesn't implement
the requested operation.  It can be debated whether this was a good
idea or not but the behavior is too subtle and dangerous to change at
this point.

After cgroup got converted to kernfs, this extra perm check also got
applied to cgroup breaking libcgroup which opens write-only files with
O_RDWR as root.  This patch gates the extra open permission check with
a new flag KERNFS_ROOT_EXTRA_OPEN_PERM_CHECK and enables it for sysfs.
For sysfs, nothing changes.  For cgroup, root now can perform any
operation regardless of the permissions as it was before kernfs
conversion.  Note that kernfs still fails unimplemented operations
with -EINVAL.

While at it, add comments explaining KERNFS_ROOT flags.

Tejun Heo b44b214026 kernfs: add back missing error check in kernfs_fop_mmap()
While updating how mmap enabled kernfs files are handled by lockdep,
9b2db6e189 ("sysfs: bail early from kernfs_file_mmap() to avoid
spurious lockdep warning") inadvertently dropped error return check
from kernfs_file_mmap().  The intention was just dropping "if
(ops->mmap)" check as the control won't reach the point if the mmap
callback isn't implemented, but I mistakenly removed the error return
check together with it.

This led to Xorg crash on i810 which was reported and bisected to the
commit and then to the specific change by Tobias.

Jianyu Zhan c1befb8859 kernfs: fix a subdir count leak
Currently kernfs_link_sibling() increates parent->dir.subdirs before
adding the node into parent's chidren rb tree.

Because it is possible that kernfs_link_sibling() couldn't find
a suitable slot and bail out, this leads to a mismatch between
elevated subdir count with actual children node numbers.

This patches fix this problem, by moving the subdir accouting
after the actual addtion happening.

Tejun Heo d911d98748 kernfs: make kernfs_notify() trigger inotify events too
kernfs_notify() is used to indicate either new data is available or
the content of a file has changed.  It currently only triggers poll
which may not be the most convenient to monitor especially when there
are a lot to monitor.  Let's hook it up to fsnotify too so that the
events can be monitored via inotify too.

fsnotify_modify() requires file * but kernfs_notify() doesn't have any
specific file associated; however, we can walk all super_blocks
associated with a kernfs_root and as kernfs always associate one ino
with inode and one dentry with an inode, it's trivial to look up the
dentry associated with a given kernfs_node.  As any active monitor
would pin dentry, just looking up existing dentry is enough.  This
patch looks up the dentry associated with the specified kernfs_node
and generates events equivalent to fsnotify_modify().

Note that as fsnotify doesn't provide fsnotify_modify() equivalent
which can be called with dentry, kernfs_notify() directly calls
fsnotify_parent() and fsnotify().  It might be better to add a wrapper
in fsnotify.h instead.

Tejun Heo 7d568a8383 kernfs: implement kernfs_root->supers list
Currently, there's no way to find out which super_blocks are
associated with a given kernfs_root.  Let's implement it - the planned
inotify extension to kernfs_notify() needs it.

Make kernfs_super_info point back to the super_block and chain it at
kernfs_root->supers.

Tejun Heo 4afddd60a7 kernfs: protect lazy kernfs_iattrs allocation with mutex
kernfs_iattrs is allocated lazily when operations which require it
take place; unfortunately, the lazy allocation and returning weren't
properly synchronized and when there are multiple concurrent
operations, it might end up returning kernfs_iattrs which hasn't
finished initialization yet or different copies to different callers.

Fix it by synchronizing with a mutex.  This can be smarter with memory
barriers but let's go there if it actually turns out to be necessary.

Johannes Weiner 91b0abe36a mm + fs: store shadow entries in page cache
Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon
evicting the real page.  As those pages are found from the LRU, an
iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently.  At this point,
reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing
code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty.

Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets
under the tree lock before doing the final truncate.  Reclaim will check
for this flag before installing shadow pages.

   - The biggest one is cgroup's conversion to kernfs.  cgroup took
     after the long abandoned vfs-entangled sysfs implementation and
     made it even more convoluted over time.  cgroup's internal objects
     were fused with vfs objects which also brought in vfs locking and
     object lifetime rules.  Naturally, there are places where vfs rules
     don't fit and nasty hacks, such as credential switching or lock
     dance interleaving inode mutex and cgroup_mutex with object serial
     number comparison thrown in to decide whether the operation is
     actually necessary, needed to be employed.

     After conversion to kernfs, internal object lifetime and locking
     rules are mostly isolated from vfs interactions allowing shedding
     of several nasty hacks and overall simplification.  This will also
     allow implmentation of operations which may affect multiple cgroups
     which weren't possible before as it would have required nesting
     i_mutexes.

   - Various simplifications including dropping of module support,
     easier cgroup name/path handling, simplified cgroup file type
     handling and task_cg_lists optimization.

   - Prepatory changes for the planned unified hierarchy, which is still
     a patchset away from being actually operational.  The dummy
     hierarchy is updated to serve as the default unified hierarchy.
     Controllers which aren't claimed by other hierarchies are
     associated with it, which BTW was what the dummy hierarchy was for
     anyway.

   - Various fixes from Li and others.  This pull request includes some
     patches to add missing slab.h to various subsystems.  This was
     triggered xattr.h include removal from cgroup.h.  cgroup.h
     indirectly got included a lot of files which brought in xattr.h
     which brought in slab.h.

  There are several merge commits - one to pull in kernfs updates
  necessary for converting cgroup (already in upstream through
  driver-core), others for interfering changes in the fixes branch"

Tejun Heo b7ce40cff0 kernfs: cache atomic_write_len in kernfs_open_file
While implementing atomic_write_len, 4d3773c4bb ("kernfs: implement
kernfs_ops->atomic_write_len") moved data copy from userland inside
kernfs_get_active() and kernfs_open_file->mutex so that
kernfs_ops->atomic_write_len can be accessed before copying buffer
from userland; unfortunately, this could lead to locking order
inversion involving mmap_sem if copy_from_user() takes a page fault.

Fix it by caching atomic_write_len in kernfs_open_file during open so
that it can be determined without accessing kernfs_ops in
kernfs_fop_write().  This restores the structure of kernfs_fop_write()
before 4d3773c4bb with updated @len determination logic.

Richard Cochran 88391d49ab kernfs: fix off by one error.
The hash values 0 and 1 are reserved for magic directory entries, but
the code only prevents names hashing to 0. This patch fixes the test
to also prevent hash value 1.

Li Zefan fed95bab8d sysfs: fix namespace refcnt leak
As mount() and kill_sb() is not a one-to-one match, we shoudn't get
ns refcnt unconditionally in sysfs_mount(), and instead we should
get the refcnt only when kernfs_mount() allocated a new superblock.

Li Zefan f41c593454 kernfs: fix kernfs_node_from_dentry()
Currently kernfs_node_from_dentry() returns NULL for root dentry,
because root_dentry->d_op == NULL.

Due to this bug cgroupstats_build() returns -EINVAL for root cgroup.

Tejun Heo e61734c55c cgroup: remove cgroup->name
cgroup->name handling became quite complicated over time involving
dedicated struct cgroup_name for RCU protection.  Now that cgroup is
on kernfs, we can drop all of it and simply use kernfs_name/path() and
friends.  Replace cgroup->name and all related code with kernfs
name/path constructs.

* Reimplement cgroup_name() and cgroup_path() as thin wrappers on top
  of kernfs counterparts, which involves semantic changes.
  pr_cont_cgroup_name() and pr_cont_cgroup_path() added.

* cgroup->name handling dropped from cgroup_rename().

* All users of cgroup_name/path() updated to the new semantics.  Users
  which were formatting the string just to printk them are converted
  to use pr_cont_cgroup_name/path() instead, which simplifies things
  quite a bit.  As cgroup_name() no longer requires RCU read lock
  around it, RCU lockings which were protecting only cgroup_name() are
  removed.

v3: dummy_top doesn't have a kn associated and
    pr_cont_cgroup_name/path() ended up calling the matching kernfs
    functions with NULL kn leading to oops.  Test for NULL kn and
    print "/" if so.  This issue was reported by Fengguang Wu.

Tejun Heo 9561a8961c kernfs: fix hash calculation in kernfs_rename_ns()
3eef34ad7d ("kernfs: implement kernfs_get_parent(),
kernfs_name/path() and friends") restructured kernfs_rename_ns() such
that new name assignment happens under kernfs_rename_lock;
unfortunately, it mistakenly passed NULL to kernfs_name_hash() to
calculate the new hash if the name hasn't changed, which can lead to
oops.

Fix it by using kn->name and kn->ns when calculating the new hash.

Tejun Heo ba341d55a4 kernfs: add CONFIG_KERNFS
As sysfs was kernfs's only user, kernfs has been piggybacking on
CONFIG_SYSFS; however, kernfs is scheduled to grow a new user very
soon.  Introduce a separate config option CONFIG_KERNFS which is to be
selected by kernfs users.
