NeilBrown 5d7eb1a322 ceph: ignore error from invalidate_inode_pages2_range() in direct write
This call can fail if there are dirty pages.  The preceding call to
filemap_write_and_wait_range() will normally remove dirty pages, but
as inode_lock() is not held over calls to ceph_direct_read_write(), it
could race with non-direct writes and pages could be dirtied
immediately after filemap_write_and_wait_range() returns

If there are dirty pages, they will be removed by the subsequent call
to truncate_inode_pages_range(), so having them here is not a problem.

If the 'ret' value is left holding an error, then in the async IO case
(aio_req is not NULL) the loop that would normally call
ceph_osdc_start_request() will see the error in 'ret' and abort all
requests.  This doesn't seem like correct behaviour.

So use separate 'ret2' instead of overloading 'ret'.

If start_page() fails to add a page to page cache or fails to send
OSD request. It should cal put_page() (instead of free_page()) for
relevant pages.

Besides, start_page() need to cancel fscache readpage if it fails
to send OSD request.

Deepa Dinamani c2050a454c fs: Replace current_fs_time() with current_time()
current_fs_time() uses struct super_block* as an argument.
As per Linus's suggestion, this is changed to take struct
inode* as a parameter instead. This is because the function
is primarily meant for vfs inode timestamps.
Also the function was renamed as per Arnd's suggestion.

Change all calls to current_fs_time() to use the new
current_time() function instead. current_fs_time() will be
deleted.

Miklos Szeredi 1cd66c93ba fs: make remaining filesystems use .rename2
This is trivial to do:

 - add flags argument to foo_rename()
 - check if flags is zero
 - assign foo_rename() to .rename2 instead of .rename

This doesn't mean it's impossible to support RENAME_NOREPLACE for these
filesystems, but it is not trivial, like for local filesystems.
RENAME_NOREPLACE must guarantee atomicity (i.e. it shouldn't be possible
for a file to be created on one host while it is overwritten by rename on
another host).

Filesystems converted:

9p, afs, ceph, coda, ecryptfs, kernfs, lustre, ncpfs, nfs, ocfs2, orangefs.

After this, we can get rid of the duplicate interfaces for rename.

Jan Kara 31051c85b5 fs: Give dentry to inode_change_ok() instead of inode
inode_change_ok() will be resposible for clearing capabilities and IMA
extended attributes and as such will need dentry. Give it as an argument
to inode_change_ok() instead of an inode. Also rename inode_change_ok()
to setattr_prepare() to better relect that it does also some
modifications in addition to checks.

Jan Kara fd5472ed44 ceph: Propagate dentry down to inode_change_ok()
To avoid clearing of capabilities or security related extended
attributes too early, inode_change_ok() will need to take dentry instead
of inode. ceph_setattr() has the dentry easily available but
__ceph_setattr() is also called from ceph_set_acl() where dentry is not
easily available. Luckily that call path does not need inode_change_ok()
to be called anyway. So reorganize functions a bit so that
inode_change_ok() is called only from paths where dentry is available.

Jan Kara 073931017b posix_acl: Clear SGID bit when setting file permissions
When file permissions are modified via chmod(2) and the user is not in
the owning group or capable of CAP_FSETID, the setgid bit is cleared in
inode_change_ok().  Setting a POSIX ACL via setxattr(2) sets the file
permissions as well as the new ACL, but doesn't clear the setgid bit in
a similar way; this allows to bypass the check in chmod(2).  Fix that.

Commit f3c4ebe65e ("ceph: using hash value to compose dentry offset")

comparison operator with an assignment one.

Linus Torvalds 554828ee0d Merge branch 'salted-string-hash'
This changes the vfs dentry hashing to mix in the parent pointer at the
_beginning_ of the hash, rather than at the end.

That actually improves both the hash and the code generation, because we
can move more of the computation to the "static" part of the dcache
setup, and do less at lookup runtime.

It turns out that a lot of other hash users also really wanted to mix in
a base pointer as a 'salt' for the hash, and so the slightly extended
interface ends up working well for other cases too.

Users that want a string hash that is purely about the string pass in a
'salt' pointer of NULL.

Nikolay Borisov 6b1a9a6c54 ceph: Mark the file cache as unreclaimable
Ceph creates multiple caches with the SLAB_RECLAIMABLE flag set, so
that it can satisfy its internal needs. Inspecting the code shows that
most of the caches are indeed reclaimable since they are directly
related to the generic inode/dentry shrinkers. However, one of the
cache used to satisfy struct file is not reclaimable since its
entries are freed only when the last reference to the file is
dropped. If a heavily loaded node opens a lot of files it can
introduce non-trivial discrepancies between memory shown as reclaimable
and what is actually reclaimed when drop_caches is used.

Fix this by removing the reclaimable flag for the file's cache.

Add a 'wake' flag to ceph_cap_flush struct, which indicates if there
is someone waiting for it to finish. When getting flush ack message,
we check the 'wake' flag in corresponding ceph_cap_flush struct to
decide if we should wake up waiters. One corner case is that the
acked cap flush has 'wake' flags is set, but it is not the first one
on the flushing list. We do not wake up waiters in this case, set
'wake' flags of preceding ceph_cap_flush struct instead

This patch devide __ceph_flush_snaps() into two stags. In the first
stage, __ceph_flush_snaps() assign snapcaps flush TIDs and add them
to cap flush lists. __ceph_flush_snaps() keeps holding the
i_ceph_lock in this stagge. So inode's auth cap can not change. In
the second stage, __ceph_flush_snaps() send flushsnap cap messages.
i_ceph_lock is unlocked before sending each cap message. If auth cap
changes in the middle, __ceph_flush_snaps() just stops. This is OK
because kick_flushing_inode_caps() will re-send flushsnap cap messages
to inode's new auth MDS.

namespace ID. This is inconvenience.

This patch makes user be able to mount filesystem by name. If user
wants to mount non-default filesystem. Client first subscribes to

Jeff Layton 14fb9c9efe ceph: allow dentry_lease_is_valid to work under RCU walk
Under rcuwalk, we need to take extra care when dereferencing d_parent.
We want to do that once and pass a pointer to dentry_lease_is_valid.

Also, we must ensure that that function can handle the case where we're
racing with d_release. Check whether "di" is NULL under the d_lock, and
just return 0 if so.

Finally, we still need to kick off a renewal job if the lease is getting
close to expiration. If that's the case, then just drop out of rcuwalk
mode since that could block.

Jeff Layton 5b484a5131 ceph: clear d_fsinfo pointer under d_lock
To check for a valid dentry lease, we need to get at the
ceph_dentry_info. Under rcuwalk though, we may end up with a dentry that
is on its way to destruction. Since we need to take the d_lock in
dentry_lease_is_valid already, we can just ensure that we clear the
d_fsinfo pointer out under the same lock before destroying it.

Linus Torvalds 8387ff2577 vfs: make the string hashes salt the hash
We always mixed in the parent pointer into the dentry name hash, but we
did it late at lookup time.  It turns out that we can simplify that
lookup-time action by salting the hash with the parent pointer early
instead of late.

A few other users of our string hashes also wanted to mix in their own
pointers into the hash, and those are updated to use the same mechanism.

Hash users that don't have any particular initial salt can just use the
NULL pointer as a no-salt.

There are several issues in fscache revalidation code.
- In ceph_revalidate_work(), fscache_invalidate() is called when
  fscache_check_consistency() return 0. This is complete wrong
  because 0 means cache is valid.
- Handle_cap_grant() calls ceph_queue_revalidate() if client
  already has CAP_FILE_CACHE. This code is confusing. Client
  should revalidate the cache each time it got CAP_FILE_CACHE
  anew.
- In Handle_cap_grant(), fscache_invalidate() is called if MDS
  revokes CAP_FILE_CACHE. This is inconsistency with the case
  that inode get evicted. In the later case, the cache is not
  discarded. Client may use the cache when inode is reloaded.

This patch moves the fscache revalidation into ceph_get_caps().
Client revalidates the cache after it gets CAP_FILE_CACHE.
i_rdcache_gen should keep constance while CAP_FILE_CACHE is
used. If i_fscache_gen is not equal to i_rdcache_gen, client
needs to check cache's consistency.

If MDS sorts dentries in dirfrag in hash order, we use hash value to
compose dentry offset. dentry offset is:

  (0xff << 52) | ((24 bits hash) << 28) |
  (the nth entry hash hash collision)

This offset is stable across directory fragmentation. This alos means
there is no need to reset readdir offset if directory get fragmented
in the middle of readdir.

truncate_pagecache() may decrease inode's reference. This can cause
deadlock if inode's last reference is dropped and iput_final() wants
to evict the inode. (evict() calls inode_wait_for_writeback(), which
waits for ceph_writepages_start() to return).

The fix is use work thead to truncate dirty pages. Also add 'forced
umount' check to ceph_update_writeable_page(), which prevents new
pages getting dirty.

- per-session request trees (vs a global per-client tree)
- per-session locking (vs a global per-client rwlock)

- foundation for watch/notify v2 support
- foundation for map check (pool deletion detection) support

The switchover is incomplete: lingering requests can be setup and
teared down but aren't ever reestablished.  This functionality is
restored with the introduction of the new lingering infrastructure
(ceph_osd_linger_request, linger_work, etc) in a later commit.

Ilya Dryomov bb873b5391 libceph: switch to calc_target(), part 2
The crux of this is getting rid of ceph_osdc_build_request(), so that
MOSDOp can be encoded not before but after calc_target() calculates the
actual target.  Encoding now happens within ceph_osdc_start_request().

Also nuked is the accompanying bunch of pointers into the encoded
buffer that was used to update fields on each send - instead, the
entire front is re-encoded.  If we want to support target->name_len !=
base->name_len in the future, there is no other way, because oid is
surrounded by other fields in the encoded buffer.

Encoding OSD ops and adding data items to the request message were
mixed together in osd_req_encode_op().  While we want to re-encode OSD
ops, we don't want to add duplicate data items to the message when
resending, so all call to ceph_osdc_msg_data_add() are factored out
into a new setup_request_data().

Ilya Dryomov d30291b985 libceph: variable-sized ceph_object_id
Currently ceph_object_id can hold object names of up to 100
(CEPH_MAX_OID_NAME_LEN) characters.  This is enough for all use cases,
expect one - long rbd image names:

- a format 1 header is named "<imgname>.rbd"
- an object that points to a format 2 header is named "rbd_id.<imgname>"

We operate on these potentially long-named objects during rbd map, and,
for format 1 images, during header refresh.  (A format 2 header name is
a small system-generated string.)

Lift this 100 character limit by making ceph_object_id be able to point
to an externally-allocated string.  Apart from being able to work with
almost arbitrarily-long named objects, this allows us to reduce the
size of ceph_object_id from >100 bytes to 64 bytes.

What happens is the following:

    (1) new MON session is established
    (2) old "none" ac is destroyed
    (3) new "cephx" ac is constructed
    ...
    (4) old OSD session (w/ "none" authorizer) is put
          ceph_auth_destroy_authorizer(ac, osd->o_auth.authorizer)

osd->o_auth.authorizer in the "none" case is just a bare pointer into
ac, which contains a single static copy for all services.  By the time
we get to (4), "none" ac, freed in (2), is long gone.  On top of that,
a new vtable installed in (3) points us at ceph_x_destroy_authorizer(),
so we end up trying to destroy a "none" authorizer with a "cephx"
destructor operating on invalid memory!

To fix this, decouple authorizer destruction from ac and do away with
a single static "none" authorizer by making a copy for each OSD or MDS
session.  Authorizers themselves are independent of ac and so there is
no reason for destroy_authorizer() to be an ac op.  Make it an op on
the authorizer itself by turning ceph_authorizer into a real struct.

Andreas Gruenbacher 2cdeb1e472 ceph: Switch to generic xattr handlers
Add a catch-all xattr handler at the end of ceph_xattr_handlers.  Check
for valid attribute names there, and remove those checks from
__ceph_{get,set,remove}xattr instead.  No "system.*" xattrs need to be
handled by the catch-all handler anymore.

The set xattr handler is called with a NULL value to indicate that the
attribute should be removed; __ceph_setxattr already handles that case
correctly (ceph_set_acl could already calling __ceph_setxattr with a NULL
value).

Move the check for snapshots from ceph_{set,remove}xattr into
__ceph_{set,remove}xattr.  With that, ceph_{get,set,remove}xattr can be
replaced with the generic iops.

Kirill A. Shutemov 09cbfeaf1a mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macros
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.

This promise never materialized.  And unlikely will.

We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE.  And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.

Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.

Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special.  They are
not.

The changes are pretty straight-forward:

 - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;

 - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};

 - page_cache_release() -> put_page();

This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below.  For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.

The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.

There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach.  I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch.  Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Andreas Gruenbacher b8a7a3a667 posix_acl: Inode acl caching fixes
When get_acl() is called for an inode whose ACL is not cached yet, the
get_acl inode operation is called to fetch the ACL from the filesystem.
The inode operation is responsible for updating the cached acl with
set_cached_acl().  This is done without locking at the VFS level, so
another task can call set_cached_acl() or forget_cached_acl() before the
get_acl inode operation gets to calling set_cached_acl(), and then
get_acl's call to set_cached_acl() results in caching an outdate ACL.

Prevent this from happening by setting the cached ACL pointer to a
task-specific sentinel value before calling the get_acl inode operation.
Move the responsibility for updating the cached ACL from the get_acl
inode operations to get_acl().  There, only set the cached ACL if the
sentinel value hasn't changed.

The sentinel values are chosen to have odd values.  Likewise, the value
of ACL_NOT_CACHED is odd.  In contrast, ACL object pointers always have
an even value (ACLs are aligned in memory).  This allows to distinguish
uncached ACLs values from ACL objects.

In addition, switch from guarding inode->i_acl and inode->i_default_acl
upates by the inode->i_lock spinlock to using xchg() and cmpxchg().

Filesystems that do not want ACLs returned from their get_acl inode
operations to be cached must call forget_cached_acl() to prevent the VFS
from doing so.

Yan, Zheng 200fd27c8f ceph: use lookup request to revalidate dentry
If dentry has no lease, ceph_d_revalidate() previously return 0.
This causes VFS to invalidate the dentry and create a new dentry
for later lookup. Invalidating a dentry also detach any underneath
mount points. So mount point inside cephfs can disapear mystically
(even the mount point is not modified by other hosts).

The fix is using lookup request to revalidate dentry without lease.
This can partly solve the mount points disapear issue (as long as
the mount point is not modified by other hosts)

Yan, Zheng 315f240880 ceph: fix security xattr deadlock
When security is enabled, security module can call filesystem's
getxattr/setxattr callbacks during d_instantiate(). For cephfs,
d_instantiate() is usually called by MDS' dispatch thread, while
handling MDS reply. If the MDS reply does not include xattrs and
corresponding caps, getxattr/setxattr need to send a new request
to MDS and waits for the reply. This makes MDS' dispatch sleep,
nobody handles later MDS replies.

The fix is make sure lookup/atomic_open reply include xattrs and
corresponding caps. So getxattr can be handled by cached xattrs.
This requires some modification to both MDS and request message.
(Client tells MDS what caps it wants; MDS encodes proper caps in
the reply)

Smack security module may call setxattr during d_instantiate().
Unlike getxattr, we can't force MDS to issue CEPH_CAP_XATTR_EXCL
to us. So just make setxattr return error when called by MDS'
dispatch thread.

Ilya Dryomov 34b759b4a2 ceph: kill ceph_empty_snapc
ceph_empty_snapc->num_snaps == 0 at all times.  Passing such a snapc to
ceph_osdc_alloc_request() (possibly through ceph_osdc_new_request()) is
equivalent to passing NULL, as ceph_osdc_alloc_request() uses it only
for sizing the request message.

Further, in all four cases the subsequent ceph_osdc_build_request() is
passed NULL for snapc, meaning that 0 is encoded for seq and num_snaps
and making ceph_empty_snapc entirely useless.  The two cases where it
actually mattered were removed in commits 8605609049 ("ceph: avoid
sending unnessesary FLUSHSNAP message") and 23078637e0 ("ceph: fix
queuing inode to mdsdir's snaprealm").

Ilya Dryomov 82dcabad75 libceph: revamp subs code, switch to SUBSCRIBE2 protocol
It is currently hard-coded in the mon_client that mdsmap and monmap
subs are continuous, while osdmap sub is always "onetime".  To better
handle full clusters/pools in the osd_client, we need to be able to
issue continuous osdmap subs.  Revamp subs code to allow us to specify
for each sub whether it should be continuous or not.

Although not strictly required for the above, switch to SUBSCRIBE2
protocol while at it, eliminating the ambiguity between a request for
"every map since X" and a request for "just the latest" when we don't
have a map yet (i.e. have epoch 0).  SUBSCRIBE2 feature bit is now
required - it's been supported since pre-argonaut (2010).

Move "got mdsmap" call to the end of ceph_mdsc_handle_map() - calling
in before we validate the epoch and successfully install the new map
can mess up mon_client sub state.

Al Viro 5955102c99 wrappers for ->i_mutex access
parallel to mutex_{lock,unlock,trylock,is_locked,lock_nested},
inode_foo(inode) being mutex_foo(&inode->i_mutex).

Please, use those for access to ->i_mutex; over the coming cycle
->i_mutex will become rwsem, with ->lookup() done with it held
only shared.

The basic idea of AIO support is simple, just call kiocb::ki_complete()
in OSD request's complete callback. But there are several special cases.

when IO span multiple objects, we need to wait until all OSD requests
are complete, then call kiocb::ki_complete(). Error handling in this case
is tricky too. For simplify, AIO both span multiple objects and extends
i_size are not allowed.

Another special case is check EOF for reading (other client can write to
the file and extend i_size concurrently). For simplify, the direct-IO/AIO
code path does do the check, fallback to normal syn read instead.

userspace as __GFP_ACCOUNT/SLAB_ACCOUNT, which makes them accounted to
memcg.  For the list, see below:

 - pid
 - cred
 - mm_struct
 - vm_area_struct and vm_region (nommu)
 - anon_vma and anon_vma_chain
 - signal_struct
 - sighand_struct
 - fs_struct
 - files_struct
 - fdtable and fdtable->full_fds_bits
 - dentry and external_name
 - inode for all filesystems. This is the most tedious part, because
   most filesystems overwrite the alloc_inode method.

The list is far from complete, so feel free to add more objects.
Nevertheless, it should be close to "account everything" approach and
keep most workloads within bounds.  Malevolent users will be able to
breach the limit, but this was possible even with the former "account
everything" approach (simply because it did not account everything in
fact).

Al Viro 6b2553918d replace ->follow_link() with new method that could stay in RCU mode
new method: ->get_link(); replacement of ->follow_link().  The differences
are:
	* inode and dentry are passed separately
	* might be called both in RCU and non-RCU mode;
the former is indicated by passing it a NULL dentry.
	* when called that way it isn't allowed to block
and should return ERR_PTR(-ECHILD) if it needs to be called
in non-RCU mode.

It's a flagday change - the old method is gone, all in-tree instances
converted.  Conversion isn't hard; said that, so far very few instances
do not immediately bail out when called in RCU mode.  That'll change
in the next commits.

Michal Hocko c62d25556b mm, fs: introduce mapping_gfp_constraint()
There are many places which use mapping_gfp_mask to restrict a more
generic gfp mask which would be used for allocations which are not
directly related to the page cache but they are performed in the same
context.

Let's introduce a helper function which makes the restriction explicit and
easier to track.  This patch doesn't introduce any functional changes.

We can use msg->con instead - at the point we sign an outgoing message
or check the signature on the incoming one, msg->con is always set.  We
wouldn't know how to sign a message without an associated session (i.e.
msg->con == NULL) and being able to sign a message using an explicitly
provided authorizer is of no use.

create_request_message() computes the maximum length of a message,
but uses the wrong type for the time stamp: sizeof(struct timespec)
may be 8 or 16 depending on the architecture, while sizeof(struct
ceph_timespec) is always 8, and that is what gets put into the
message.

Found while auditing the uses of timespec for y2038 problems.

When readahead encounters file holes, osd reply returns error -ENOENT,
finish_read() skips adding pages to the the page cache. So readahead

Yan, Zheng 23078637e0 ceph: fix queuing inode to mdsdir's snaprealm
During MDS failovers, MClientSnap message may cause kclient to move
some inodes from root directory's snaprealm to mdsdir's snaprealm
and queue snapshots for these inodes. For a FS has never created any
snapshot, both root directory's snaprealm and mdsdir's snaprealm
share the same snapshot contexts (both are ceph_empty_snapc). This
confuses ceph_put_wrbuffer_cap_refs(), make it unable to distinguish
snapshot buffers from head buffers.

The fix is do not use ceph_empty_snapc as snaprealm's cached context.

Kees Cook a068acf2ee fs: create and use seq_show_option for escaping
Many file systems that implement the show_options hook fail to correctly
escape their output which could lead to unescaped characters (e.g.  new
lines) leaking into /proc/mounts and /proc/[pid]/mountinfo files.  This
could lead to confusion, spoofed entries (resulting in things like
systemd issuing false d-bus "mount" notifications), and who knows what
else.  This looks like it would only be the root user stepping on
themselves, but it's possible weird things could happen in containers or
in other situations with delegated mount privileges.

Here's an example using overlay with setuid fusermount trusting the
contents of /proc/mounts (via the /etc/mtab symlink).  Imagine the use
of "sudo" is something more sneaky:

This fixes the problem by adding new seq_show_option and
seq_show_option_n helpers, and updating the vulnerable show_option
handlers to use them as needed.  Some, like SELinux, need to be open
coded due to unusual existing escape mechanisms.

Yan, Zheng fc927cd32f ceph: always re-send cap flushes when MDS recovers
commit e548e9b93d makes the kclient
only re-send cap flush once during MDS failover. If the kclient sends
a cap flush after MDS enters reconnect stage but before MDS recovers.
The kclient will skip re-sending the same cap flush when MDS recovers.

This causes problem for newly created inode. The MDS handles cap
flushes before replaying unsafe requests, so it's possible that MDS
find corresponding inode is missing when handling cap flush. The fix
is reverting to old behaviour: always re-send when MDS recovers

Previously our dcache readdir code relies on that child dentries in
directory dentry's d_subdir list are sorted by dentry's offset in
descending order. When adding dentries to the dcache, if a dentry
already exists, our readdir code moves it to head of directory
dentry's d_subdir list. This design relies on dcache internals.
Al Viro suggests using ncpfs's approach: keeping array of pointers
to dentries in page cache of directory inode. the validity of those
pointers are presented by directory inode's complete and ordered
flags. When a dentry gets pruned, we clear directory inode's complete
flag in the d_prune() callback. Before moving a dentry to other
directory, we clear the ordered flag for both old and new directory.

Previously we do not trace accurate TID for flushing caps. when
MDS failovers, we have no choice but to re-send all flushing caps
with a new TID. This can cause problem because MDS can has already
flushed some caps and has issued the same caps to other client.
The re-sent cap flush has a new TID, which makes MDS unable to
detect if it has already processed the cap flush.

This patch adds code to track pending caps flushing accurately.
When re-sending cap flush is needed, we use its original flush
TID.

when copying files to cephfs, file data may stay in page cache after
corresponding file is closed. Cached data use Fc capability. If we
include Fc capability in cap_wanted, MDS will treat files with cached

Ilya Dryomov a319bf56a6 libceph: store timeouts in jiffies, verify user input
There are currently three libceph-level timeouts that the user can
specify on mount: mount_timeout, osd_idle_ttl and osdkeepalive.  All of
these are in seconds and no checking is done on user input: negative
values are accepted, we multiply them all by HZ which may or may not
overflow, arbitrarily large jiffies then get added together, etc.

There is also a bug in the way mount_timeout=0 is handled.  It's
supposed to mean "infinite timeout", but that's not how wait.h APIs
treat it and so __ceph_open_session() for example will busy loop
without much chance of being interrupted if none of ceph-mons are
there.

Fix all this by verifying user input, storing timeouts capped by
msecs_to_jiffies() in jiffies and using the new ceph_timeout_jiffies()
helper for all user-specified waits to handle infinite timeouts
correctly.

wastes lots of memory when there are large amount of caps. This patch
make the code not pre-allocate the cap release messages. Instead,

cap. Later when flush cap releases is needed, we allocate the cap
release messages dynamically.

In most cases that snap context is needed, we are holding
reference of CEPH_CAP_FILE_WR. So we can set ceph inode's
i_head_snapc when getting the CEPH_CAP_FILE_WR reference,
and make codes get snap context from i_head_snapc. This makes
the code simpler.

Another benefit of this change is that we can handle snap
notification more elegantly. Especially when snap context
is updated while someone else is doing write. The old queue
cap_snap code may set cap_snap's context to ether the old
context or the new snap context, depending on if i_head_snapc
is set. The new queue capp_snap code always set cap_snap's
context to the old snap context.

snap context to them.  Unlike cached_context in ceph_snap_realm,
we do not need to protect the empty snap context.

David Howells e36cb0b89c VFS: (Scripted) Convert S_ISLNK/DIR/REG(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_*(dentry)
Convert the following where appropriate:

 (1) S_ISLNK(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_symlink(dentry).

 (2) S_ISREG(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_reg(dentry).

 (3) S_ISDIR(dentry->d_inode) to d_is_dir(dentry).  This is actually more
     complicated than it appears as some calls should be converted to
     d_can_lookup() instead.  The difference is whether the directory in
     question is a real dir with a ->lookup op or whether it's a fake dir with
     a ->d_automount op.

In some circumstances, we can subsume checks for dentry->d_inode not being
NULL into this, provided we the code isn't in a filesystem that expects
d_inode to be NULL if the dirent really *is* negative (ie. if we're going to
use d_inode() rather than d_backing_inode() to get the inode pointer).

Note that the dentry type field may be set to something other than
DCACHE_MISS_TYPE when d_inode is NULL in the case of unionmount, where the VFS
manages the fall-through from a negative dentry to a lower layer.  In such a
case, the dentry type of the negative union dentry is set to the same as the
type of the lower dentry.

However, if you know d_inode is not NULL at the call site, then you can use
the d_is_xxx() functions even in a filesystem.

There is one further complication: a 0,0 chardev dentry may be labelled
DCACHE_WHITEOUT_TYPE rather than DCACHE_SPECIAL_TYPE.  Strictly, this was
intended for special directory entry types that don't have attached inodes.

Yan, Zheng 4d41cef279 ceph: return error for traceless reply race
When we receives traceless reply for request that created new inode,
we re-send a lookup request to MDS get information of the newly created
inode. (VFS expects FS' callback return an inode in create case)
This breaks one request into two requests. Other client may modify or
move to the new inode in the middle.

When the race happens, ceph_handle_notrace_create() unconditionally
links the dentry for 'create' operation to the inode returned by lookup.
This may confuse VFS when the inode is a directory (VFS does not allow
multiple linkages for directory inode).

This patch makes ceph_handle_notrace_create() when it detect a race.
This event should be rare and it happens only when we talk to old MDS.
Recent MDS does not send traceless reply for request that creates new
inode.

Yan, Zheng 982d6011bc ceph: improve reference tracking for snaprealm
When snaprealm is created, its initial reference count is zero.
But in some rare cases, the newly created snaprealm is not referenced
by anyone. This causes snaprealm with zero reference count not freed.

The fix is set reference count of newly snaprealm to 1. The reference
is return the function who requests to create the snaprealm. When the
function finishes its job, it releases the reference.

Yan, Zheng 1487a688d8 ceph: properly zero data pages for file holes.
A bug is found in striped_read() of fs/ceph/file.c. striped_read() calls
ceph_zero_pape_vector_range().  The first argument, page_align + read + ret,
passed to ceph_zero_pape_vector_range() is wrong.

When a file has holes, this wrong parameter may cause memory corruption
either in kernal space or user space. Kernel space memory may be corrupted in
the case of non direct IO; user space memory may be corrupted in the case of
direct IO. In the latter case, the application doing direct IO may crash due
to memory corruption, as we have experienced.

The correct value should be initial_align + read + ret, where intial_align =
o_direct ? buf_align : io_align.  Compared with page_align, the current page
offest, initial_align is the initial page offest, which should be used to
calculate the page and offset in ceph_zero_pape_vector_range().

That laconic "some MM" is mainly the removal of remap_file_pages(),
which is a big simplification of the VM, and which gets rid of a *lot*
of random cruft and special cases because we no longer support the
non-linear mappings that it used.

From a user interface perspective, nothing has changed, because the
remap_file_pages() syscall still exists, it's just done by emulating the
old behavior by creating a lot of individual small mappings instead of
one non-linear one.

The emulation is slower than the old "native" non-linear mappings, but
nobody really uses or cares about remap_file_pages(), and simplifying
the VM is a big advantage.

Christoph Hellwig df0ce26cb4 fs: remove default_backing_dev_info
Now that default_backing_dev_info is not used for writeback purposes we can
git rid of it easily:

 - instead of using it's name for tracing unregistered bdi we just use
   "unknown"
 - btrfs and ceph can just assign the default read ahead window themselves
   like several other filesystems already do.
 - we can assign noop_backing_dev_info as the default one in alloc_super.
   All filesystems already either assigned their own or
   noop_backing_dev_info.

After converting inline data to normal data, client need to flush
the new i_inline_version (CEPH_INLINE_NONE) to MDS. This commit makes
cap messages (sent to MDS) contain inline_version and inline_data.
Client always converts inline data to normal data before data write,
so the inline data length part is always zero.

Before any data write, convert inline data to normal data and set
i_inline_version to CEPH_INLINE_NONE. The OSD request that saves
inline data to object contains 3 operations (CMPXATTR, WRITE and
SETXATTR). It compares a xattr named 'inline_version' to prevent
old data overwrites newer data.

Yan, Zheng 97c85a828f ceph: introduce global empty snap context
Current snaphost code does not properly handle moving inode from one
empty snap realm to another empty snap realm. After changing inode's
snap realm, some dirty pages' snap context can be not equal to inode's
i_head_snap. This can trigger BUG() in ceph_put_wrbuffer_cap_refs()

The fix is introduce a global empty snap context for all empty snap
realm. This avoids triggering the BUG() for filesystem with no snapshot.

Yan, Zheng 70db4f3629 ceph: introduce a new inode flag indicating if cached dentries are ordered
After creating/deleting/renaming file, offsets of sibling dentries may
change. So we can not use cached dentries to satisfy readdir. But we can
still use the cached dentries to conclude -ENOENT for lookup.

This patch introduces a new inode flag indicating if child dentries are
ordered. The flag is set at the same time marking a directory complete.
After creating/deleting/renaming file, we clear the flag on directory
inode. This prevents ceph_readdir() from using cached dentries to satisfy
readdir syscall.

Yan, Zheng 9280be24dc ceph: fix file lock interruption
When a lock operation is interrupted, current code sends a unlock request to
MDS to undo the lock operation. This method does not work as expected because
the unlock request can drop locks that have already been acquired.

The fix is use the newly introduced CEPH_LOCK_FCNTL_INTR/CEPH_LOCK_FLOCK_INTR
requests to interrupt blocked file lock request. These requests do not drop
locks that have alread been acquired, they only interrupt blocked file lock
request.

Yan, Zheng 3231300bb9 ceph: fix flush tid comparision
TID of cap flush ack is 64 bits, but ceph_inode_info::flushing_cap_tid
is only 16 bits. 16 bits should be plenty to let the cap flush updates
pipeline appropriately, but we need to cast in the proper direction when
comparing these differently-sized versions. So downcast the 64-bits one
to 16 bits.

So MDS can handle creating file/directory and setting the initial ACL in
one request.

Current code uses page array to present MDS request data. Pages in the
array are allocated/freed by caller of ceph_mdsc_do_request(). If request
is interrupted, the pages can be freed while they are still being used by
the request message.

reference counted.

Chao Yu a4483e8a42 ceph: remove redundant code for max file size verification
Both ceph_update_writeable_page and ceph_setattr will verify file size
with max size ceph supported.
There are two caller for ceph_update_writeable_page, ceph_write_begin and
ceph_page_mkwrite. For ceph_write_begin, we have already verified the size in
generic_write_checks of ceph_write_iter; for ceph_page_mkwrite, we have no
chance to change file size when mmap. Likewise we have already verified the size
in inode_change_ok when we call ceph_setattr.
So let's remove the redundant code for max file size verification.

Yan, Zheng 508b32d866 ceph: request xattrs if xattr_version is zero
Following sequence of events can happen.
  - Client releases an inode, queues cap release message.
  - A 'lookup' reply brings the same inode back, but the reply
    doesn't contain xattrs because MDS didn't receive the cap release
    message and thought client already has up-to-data xattrs.

The fix is force sending a getattr request to MDS if xattrs_version
is 0. The getattr mask is set to CEPH_STAT_CAP_XATTR, so MDS knows client
does not have xattr.

Now that d_invalidate always succeeds it is not longer necessary or
desirable to hard code d_drop calls into filesystem specific
d_revalidate implementations.

Remove the unnecessary d_drop calls and rely on d_invalidate
to drop the dentries.  Using d_invalidate ensures that paths
to mount points will not be dropped.

J. Bruce Fields 1a0a397e41 dcache: d_obtain_alias callers don't all want DISCONNECTED
There are a few d_obtain_alias callers that are using it to get the
root of a filesystem which may already have an alias somewhere else.

This is not the same as the filehandle-lookup case, and none of them
actually need DCACHE_DISCONNECTED set.

It isn't really a serious problem, but it would really be clearer if we
reserved DCACHE_DISCONNECTED for those cases where it's actually needed.

In the btrfs case this was causing a spurious printk from
nfsd/nfsfh.c:fh_verify when it found an unexpected DCACHE_DISCONNECTED
dentry.  Josef worked around this by unsetting DCACHE_DISCONNECTED
manually in 3a0dfa6a12 "Btrfs: unset DCACHE_DISCONNECTED when mounting
default subvol", and this replaces that workaround.

Sage Weil b8e69066d8 ceph: include time stamp in every MDS request
We recently modified the client/MDS protocol to include a timestamp in the
client request.  This allows ctime updates to follow the client's clock
in most cases, which avoids subtle problems when clocks are out of sync
and timestamps are updated sometimes by the MDS clock (for most requests)
and sometimes by the client clock (for cap writeback).

cap import messages are processed by both handle_cap_import() and
handle_cap_grant(). These two functions are not executed in the same
atomic context, so they can races with cap release.

The fix is make handle_cap_import() not release the i_ceph_lock when
it returns. Let handle_cap_grant() release the lock after it finishes
its job.

Jeff Layton 130d1f956a locks: ensure that fl_owner is always initialized properly in flock and lease codepaths
Currently, the fl_owner isn't set for flock locks. Some filesystems use
byte-range locks to simulate flock locks and there is a common idiom in
those that does:

    fl->fl_owner = (fl_owner_t)filp;
    fl->fl_start = 0;
    fl->fl_end = OFFSET_MAX;

Since flock locks are generally "owned" by the open file description,
move this into the common flock lock setup code. The fl_start and fl_end
fields are already set appropriately, so remove the unneeded setting of
that in flock ops in those filesystems as well.

Finally, the lease code also sets the fl_owner as if they were owned by
the process and not the open file description. This is incorrect as
leases have the same ownership semantics as flock locks. Set them the
same way. The lease code doesn't actually use the fl_owner value for
anything, so this is more for consistency's sake than a bugfix.

When creating a file, ceph_set_dentry_offset() puts the new dentry
at the end of directory's d_subdirs, then set the dentry's offset
based on directory's max offset. The offset does not reflect the
real postion of the dentry in directory. Later readdir reply from
MDS may change the dentry's position/offset. This inconsistency
can cause missing/duplicate entries in readdir result if readdir
is partly satisfied by dcache_readdir().

The fix is clear directory's completeness after creating/renaming
file. It prevents later readdir from using dcache_readdir().

When adjusting caps client wants, MDS does not record caps that are
not allowed. For non-auth MDS, it does not record WR caps. So when
a MDS reply changes a non-auth cap to auth cap, client needs to set
cap's mds_wanted according to the reply.

Yan, Zheng eb13e832f8 ceph: use fl->fl_file as owner identifier of flock and posix lock
flock and posix lock should use fl->fl_file instead of process ID
as owner identifier. (posix lock uses fl->fl_owner. fl->fl_owner
is usually equal to fl->fl_file, but it also can be a customized
value). The process ID of who holds the lock is just for F_GETLK
fcntl(2).

The fix is rename the 'pid' fields of struct ceph_mds_request_args
and struct ceph_filelock to 'owner', rename 'pid_namespace' fields
to 'pid'. Assign fl->fl_file to the 'owner' field of lock messages.
We also set the most significant bit of the 'owner' field. MDS can
use that bit to distinguish between old and new clients.

The MDS counterpart of this patch modifies the flock code to not
take the 'pid_namespace' into consideration when checking conflict
locks.

 - client releases a inode with i_max_size > 0. The release message
   is queued. (is not sent to the auth MDS)
 - a 'lookup' request reply from non-auth MDS returns the same inode.
 - client opens the inode in write mode. The version of inode trace
   in 'open' request reply is equal to the cached inode's version.
 - client requests new max size. The MDS ignores the request because
   it does not affect client's write range

Yunchuan Wen f1fc4fee3b ceph: fscache: Wait for completion of object initialization
The object store limit needs to be updated after writing,
and this can be done provided the corresponding object has already
been initialized. Current object initialization is done asynchrously,
which introduce a race if a file is opened, then immediately followed
by a writing, the initialization may have not completed, the code will
reach the ASSERT in fscache_submit_exclusive_op() to cause kernel
bug.

Yan, Zheng 15289dc85b ceph: let MDS adjust readdir 'frag'
If readdir 'frag' is adjusted, readdir 'offset' should be reset.
Otherwise some dentries may be lost when readdir and fragmenting
directory happen at the some.

Another way to fix this issue is let MDS adjust readdir 'frag'.
The code that handles MDS reply reset the readdir 'offset' if
the readdir reply is different than the requested one.

Comparing offset with inode->i_sb->s_maxbytes doesn't make sense for
directory. For a fragmented directory, offset (frag_t, off) can be
larger than inode->i_sb->s_maxbytes.

At the very beginning of ceph_dir_llseek(), local variable old_offset
is initialized to parameter offset. This doesn't make sense neither.
Old_offset should be ceph_make_fpos(fi->frag, fi->next_offset).

Yan, Zheng 4d5f5df673 ceph: fix __dcache_readdir()
If directory is fragmented, readdir() read its dirfrags one by one.
After reading all dirfrags, the corresponding dentries are sorted in
(frag_t, off) order in the dcache. If dentries of a directory are all
cached, __dcache_readdir() can use the cached dentries to satisfy
readdir syscall. But when checking if a given dentry is after the
position of readdir, __dcache_readdir() compares numerical value of
frag_t directly. This is wrong, it should use ceph_frag_compare().

- ->get_acl only gets called after we checked for a cached ACL, so no
   need to call get_cached_acl again.
 - no need to check IS_POSIXACL in ->get_acl, without that it should
   never get set as all the callers that set it already have the check.
 - you should be able to use the full posix_acl_create in CEPH

The merge of commit 7221fe4c2e ("ceph: add acl for cephfs") raced with
upstream changes in the generic POSIX ACL code (eg commit 2aeccbe957
"fs: add generic xattr_acl handlers" and others).

Some of the fallout was fixed in commit 4db658ea0c ("ceph: Fix up after
semantic merge conflict"), but it was incomplete: the set_acl
inode_operation wasn't getting set, and the prototype needed to be
adjusted a bit (it doesn't take a dentry anymore).

Linus Torvalds 4db658ea0c ceph: Fix up after semantic merge conflict
The previous ceph-client merge resulted in ceph not even building,
because there was a merge conflict that wasn't visible as an actual data
conflict: commit 7221fe4c2e ("ceph: add acl for cephfs") added support
for POSIX ACL's into Ceph, but unluckily we also had the VFS tree change
a lot of the POSIX ACL helper functions to be much more helpful to
filesystems (see for example commits 2aeccbe957 "fs: add generic
xattr_acl handlers", 5bf3258fd2 "fs: make posix_acl_chmod more useful"
and 37bc15392a "fs: make posix_acl_create more useful")

The reason this conflict wasn't obvious was many-fold: because it was a
semantic conflict rather than a data conflict, it wasn't visible in the
git merge as a conflict.  And because the VFS tree hadn't been in
linux-next, people hadn't become aware of it that way.  And because I
was at jury duty this morning, I was using my laptop and as a result not
doing constant "allmodconfig" builds.

Anyway, this fixes the build and generally removes a fair chunk of the
Ceph POSIX ACL support code, since the improved helpers seem to match
really well for Ceph too.  But I don't actually have any way to *test*
the end result, and I was really hoping for some ACK's for this.  Oh,
well.

Not compiling certainly doesn't make things easier to test, so I'm
committing this without the acks after having waited for four hours...
Plus it's what I would have done for the merge had I noticed the
semantic conflict..
