Linus Torvalds ff2ae607c6 SPDX patches for 5.7-rc1.
Here are 3 SPDX patches for 5.7-rc1.

One fixes up the SPDX tag for a single driver, while the other two go
through the tree and add SPDX tags for all of the .gitignore files as
 needed.

Nothing too complex, but you will get a merge conflict with your current
tree, that should be trivial to handle (one file modified by two things,
 one file deleted.)

All 3 of these have been in linux-next for a while, with no reported
issues other than the merge conflict.

Yu-cheng Yu 5790921bc1 x86/insn: Add Control-flow Enforcement (CET) instructions to the opcode map
Add the following CET instructions to the opcode map:

INCSSP:
    Increment Shadow Stack pointer (SSP).

RDSSP:
    Read SSP into a GPR.

SAVEPREVSSP:
Use "previous ssp" token at top of current Shadow Stack (SHSTK) to
create a "restore token" on the previous (outgoing) SHSTK.

RSTORSSP:
Restore from a "restore token" to SSP.

WRSS:
Write to kernel-mode SHSTK (kernel-mode instruction).

WRUSS:
Write to user-mode SHSTK (kernel-mode instruction).

SETSSBSY:
Verify the "supervisor token" pointed by MSR_IA32_PL0_SSP, set the
token busy, and set then Shadow Stack pointer(SSP) to the value of
    MSR_IA32_PL0_SSP.

CLRSSBSY:
Verify the "supervisor token" and clear its busy bit.

ENDBR64/ENDBR32:
Mark a valid 64/32 bit control transfer endpoint.

Detailed information of CET instructions can be found in Intel Software
Developer's Manual.

Masami Hiramatsu 8b7e20a7ba x86/decoder: Add TEST opcode to Group3-2
Add TEST opcode to Group3-2 reg=001b as same as Group3-1 does.

Commit

12a78d43de ("x86/decoder: Add new TEST instruction pattern")

added a TEST opcode assignment to f6 XX/001/XXX (Group 3-1), but did
not add f7 XX/001/XXX (Group 3-2).

Actually, this TEST opcode variant (ModRM.reg /1) is not described in
the Intel SDM Vol2 but in AMD64 Architecture Programmer's Manual Vol.3,
Appendix A.2 Table A-6. ModRM.reg Extensions for the Primary Opcode Map.

Without this fix, Randy found a warning by insn_decoder_test related
to this issue as below.

    HOSTCC arch/x86/tools/insn_decoder_test

Tony Luck f444a5ff95 x86/cpufeatures: Add support for fast short REP; MOVSB
>From the Intel Optimization Reference Manual:

3.7.6.1 Fast Short REP MOVSB
Beginning with processors based on Ice Lake Client microarchitecture,
REP MOVSB performance of short operations is enhanced. The enhancement
applies to string lengths between 1 and 128 bytes long. Support for
fast-short REP MOVSB is enumerated by the CPUID feature flag: CPUID
[EAX=7H, ECX=0H).EDX.FAST_SHORT_REP_MOVSB[bit 4] = 1. There is no change
in the REP STOS performance.

Add an X86_FEATURE_FSRM flag for this.

memmove() avoids REP MOVSB for short (< 32 byte) copies. Check FSRM and
use REP MOVSB for short copies on systems that support it.

Jann Horn 7be4412721 x86/insn-eval: Add support for 64-bit kernel mode
To support evaluating 64-bit kernel mode instructions:

* Replace existing checks for user_64bit_mode() with a new helper that
checks whether code is being executed in either 64-bit kernel mode or
64-bit user mode.

* Select the GS base depending on whether the instruction is being
evaluated in kernel mode.

Linus Torvalds 1d87200446 Merge branch 'x86-asm-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 asm updates from Ingo Molnar:
"The main changes in this cycle were:

   - Cross-arch changes to move the linker sections for NOTES and
EXCEPTION_TABLE into the RO_DATA area, where they belong on most
     architectures. (Kees Cook)

   - Switch the x86 linker fill byte from x90 (NOP) to 0xcc (INT3), to
trap jumps into the middle of those padding areas instead of
     sliding execution. (Kees Cook)

   - A thorough cleanup of symbol definitions within x86 assembler code.
The rather randomly named macros got streamlined around a
     (hopefully) straightforward naming scheme:

        SYM_START(name, linkage, align...)
        SYM_END(name, sym_type)

        SYM_FUNC_START(name)
        SYM_FUNC_END(name)

        SYM_CODE_START(name)
        SYM_CODE_END(name)

        SYM_DATA_START(name)
        SYM_DATA_END(name)

etc - with about three times of these basic primitives with some
label, local symbol or attribute variant, expressed via postfixes.

No change in functionality intended. (Jiri Slaby)

Jiri Slaby ef1e03152c x86/asm: Make some functions local
There are a couple of assembly functions which are invoked only locally
in the file they are defined. In C, they are marked "static". In
assembly, annotate them using SYM_{FUNC,CODE}_START_LOCAL (and switch

depends on whether ENDPROC or END was used for a particular function

Jiri Slaby ef77e6880b x86/asm: Annotate local pseudo-functions
Use the newly added SYM_CODE_START_LOCAL* to annotate beginnings of
all pseudo-functions (those ending with END until now) which do not
have ".globl" annotation. This is needed to balance END for tools that
generate debuginfo. Note that ENDs are switched to SYM_CODE_END too so
that everybody can see the pairing.

C-like functions (which handle frame ptr etc.) are not annotated here,
hence SYM_CODE_* macros are used here, not SYM_FUNC_*. Note that the
32bit version of early_idt_handler_common already had ENDPROC -- switch
that to SYM_CODE_END for the same reason as above (and to be the same as
64bit).

While early_idt_handler_common is LOCAL, it's name is not prepended with
".L" as it happens to appear in call traces.

bad_get_user*, and bad_put_user are now aligned, as they are separate
functions. They do not mind to be aligned -- no need to be compact
there.

early_idt_handler_common is aligned now too, as it is after
early_idt_handler_array, so as well no need to be compact there.

verify_cpu is self-standing and included in other .S files, so align it
too.

The others have alignment preserved to what it used to be (using the
_NOALIGN variant of macros).

Masami Hiramatsu 4d65adfcd1 x86: xen: insn: Decode Xen and KVM emulate-prefix signature
Decode Xen and KVM's emulate-prefix signature by x86 insn decoder.
It is called "prefix" but actually not x86 instruction prefix, so
this adds insn.emulate_prefix_size field instead of reusing
insn.prefixes.

If x86 decoder finds a special sequence of instructions of
XEN_EMULATE_PREFIX and 'ud2a; .ascii "kvm"', it just counts the
length, set insn.emulate_prefix_size and fold it with the next
instruction. In other words, the signature and the next instruction
is treated as a single instruction.

Janakarajan Natarajan 454de1e7d9 x86/asm: Fix MWAITX C-state hint value
As per "AMD64 Architecture Programmer's Manual Volume 3: General-Purpose
and System Instructions", MWAITX EAX[7:4]+1 specifies the optional hint
of the optimized C-state. For C0 state, EAX[7:4] should be set to 0xf.

Currently, a value of 0xf is set for EAX[3:0] instead of EAX[7:4]. Fix
this by changing MWAITX_DISABLE_CSTATES from 0xf to 0xf0.

This hasn't had any implications so far because setting reserved bits in
EAX is simply ignored by the CPU.

Jiri Slaby 98ededb61f x86/asm: Make some functions local labels
Boris suggests to make a local label (prepend ".L") to these functions
to eliminate them from the symbol table. These are functions with very
local names and really should not be visible anywhere.

Note that objtool won't see these functions anymore (to generate ORC
debug info). But all the functions are not annotated with ENDPROC, so
they won't have objtool's attention anyway.

Josh Poimboeuf 82e844a653 x86/uaccess: Remove redundant CLACs in getuser/putuser error paths
The same getuser/putuser error paths are used regardless of whether AC

Josh Poimboeuf 5e307a6bc7 x86/uaccess: Don't leak AC flag into fentry from mcsafe_handle_tail()
After adding mcsafe_handle_tail() to the objtool uaccess safe list,
objtool reports:

arch/x86/lib/usercopy_64.o: warning: objtool: mcsafe_handle_tail()+0x0: call to __fentry__() with UACCESS enabled

With SMAP, this function is called with AC=1, so it needs to be careful
about which functions it calls. Disable the ftrace entry hook, which
can potentially pull in a lot of extra code.

Josh Poimboeuf 3a6ab4bcc5 x86/uaccess: Remove ELF function annotation from copy_user_handle_tail()
After an objtool improvement, it's complaining about the CLAC in
copy_user_handle_tail():

arch/x86/lib/copy_user_64.o: warning: objtool: .altinstr_replacement+0x12: redundant UACCESS disable
  arch/x86/lib/copy_user_64.o: warning: objtool:   copy_user_handle_tail()+0x6: (alt)

  arch/x86/lib/copy_user_64.o: warning: objtool:   copy_user_handle_tail()+0x0: <=== (func)

copy_user_handle_tail() is incorrectly marked as a callable function, so
objtool is rightfully concerned about the CLAC with no corresponding
STAC.

Remove the ELF function annotation. The copy_user_handle_tail() code
path is already verified by objtool because it's jumped to by other
callable asm code (which does the corresponding STAC).

These are all more "GPL-2.0-or-later" or "GPL-2.0-only" tags being

Jann Horn de9f869616 x86/insn-eval: Fix use-after-free access to LDT entry
get_desc() computes a pointer into the LDT while holding a lock that

Linus Torvalds 6ec62961e6 Merge branch 'core-objtool-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull objtool updates from Ingo Molnar:
"This is a series from Peter Zijlstra that adds x86 build-time uaccess
validation of SMAP to objtool, which will detect and warn about the
following uaccess API usage bugs and weirdnesses:

   - call to %s() with UACCESS enabled
   - return with UACCESS enabled
   - return with UACCESS disabled from a UACCESS-safe function
   - recursive UACCESS enable
   - redundant UACCESS disable
   - UACCESS-safe disables UACCESS

As it turns out not leaking uaccess permissions outside the intended
uaccess functionality is hard when the interfaces are complex and when
  such bugs are mostly dormant.

As a bonus we now also check the DF flag. We had at least one
high-profile bug in that area in the early days of Linux, and the
checking is fairly simple. The checks performed and warnings emitted
  are:

   - call to %s() with DF set
   - return with DF set
   - return with modified stack frame
   - recursive STD
   - redundant CLD

It's all x86-only for now, but later on this can also be used for PAN
on ARM and objtool is fairly cross-platform in principle.

While all warnings emitted by this new checking facility that got
reported to us were fixed, there might be GCC version dependent
warnings that were not reported yet - which we'll address, should they
  trigger.

The warnings are non-fatal build warnings"

Gary Hook b51ce3744f x86/mm/mem_encrypt: Disable all instrumentation for early SME setup
Enablement of AMD's Secure Memory Encryption feature is determined very
early after start_kernel() is entered. Part of this procedure involves
scanning the command line for the parameter 'mem_encrypt'.

To determine intended state, the function sme_enable() uses library
functions cmdline_find_option() and strncmp(). Their use occurs early
enough such that it cannot be assumed that any instrumentation subsystem
is initialized.

For example, making calls to a KASAN-instrumented function before KASAN
is set up will result in the use of uninitialized memory and a boot
failure.

When AMD's SME support is enabled, conditionally disable instrumentation
of these dependent functions in lib/string.c and arch/x86/lib/cmdline.c.

[ bp: Get rid of intermediary nostackp var and cleanup whitespace. ]

Andi Kleen 81423c3741 x86/timer: Don't inline __const_udelay()
LTO will happily inline __const_udelay() everywhere it is used. Forcing it
noinline saves ~44k text in a LTO build.

Andi Kleen c03e27506a x86/asm: Mark all top level asm statements as .text
With gcc toplevel assembler statements that do not mark themselves as .text
may end up in other sections. This causes LTO boot crashes because various
assembler statements ended up in the middle of the initcall section. It's
also a latent problem without LTO, although it's currently not known to
cause any real problems.

According to the gcc team it's expected behavior.

Always mark all the top level assembler statements as text so that they
switch to the right section.

Waiman Long 46ad0840b1 locking/rwsem: Remove arch specific rwsem files
As the generic rwsem-xadd code is using the appropriate acquire and
release versions of the atomic operations, the arch specific rwsem.h
files will not be that much faster than the generic code as long as the
atomic functions are properly implemented. So we can remove those arch
specific rwsem.h and stop building asm/rwsem.h to reduce maintenance
effort.

Currently, only x86, alpha and ia64 have implemented architecture
specific fast paths. I don't have access to alpha and ia64 systems for
testing, but they are legacy systems that are not likely to be updated
to the latest kernel anyway.

By using a rwsem microbenchmark, the total locking rates on a 4-socket
56-core 112-thread x86-64 system before and after the patch were as
follows (mixed means equal # of read and write locks):

                      Before Patch After Patch
   # of Threads wlock rlock mixed wlock rlock mixed
   ------------ ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----
        1 29,201 30,143 29,458 28,615 30,172 29,201
        2 6,807 13,299 1,171 7,725 15,025 1,804
        4 6,504 12,755 1,520 7,127 14,286 1,345
        8 6,762 13,412 764 6,826 13,652 726
       16 6,693 15,408 662 6,599 15,938 626
       32 6,145 15,286 496 5,549 15,487 511
       64 5,812 15,495 60 5,858 15,572 60

There were some run-to-run variations for the multi-thread tests. For
x86-64, using the generic C code fast path seems to be a little bit
faster than the assembly version with low lock contention. Looking at
the assembly version of the fast paths, there are assembly to/from C
code wrappers that save and restore all the callee-clobbered registers
(7 registers on x86-64). The assembly generated from the generic C
code doesn't need to do that. That may explain the slight performance
gain here.

The generic asm rwsem.h can also be merged into kernel/locking/rwsem.h
with no code change as no other code other than those under
kernel/locking needs to access the internal rwsem macros and functions.

Peter Zijlstra b69656fa7e x86/uaccess: Fix up the fixup
New tooling got confused about this:

arch/x86/lib/memcpy_64.o: warning: objtool: .fixup+0x7: return with UACCESS enabled

While the code isn't wrong, it is tedious (if at all possible) to
figure out what function a particular chunk of .fixup belongs to.

This then confuses the objtool uaccess validation. Instead of
returning directly from the .fixup, jump back into the right function.
