Johannes Berg f69a23b795 iwlwifi: fix double free/complete in firmware loading
Linus reported that due to mac80211 failing to register
the device (due to WoWLAN) his machine crashed etc. as
we double-freed the vmalloc() firmware area. His patch
to fix it was very similar to this one but I noticed
that there's another bug in the area: we complete the
completion before starting, so since we're running in
a work struct context stop() could be called while in
the middle of start() which will almost certainly lead
to issues.

Make a modification similar to his to avoid the double-
free but also move the completion to another spot so it
is only done after start() either finished or failed so
that stop() can have a consistent state.

Emmanuel Grumbach ebed633c61 iwlwifi: fix the Transmit Frame Descriptor rings
The logic that allows to have a short TFD queue was completely wrong.
We do maintain 256 Transmit Frame Descriptors, but they point to
recycled buffers. We used to attach and de-attach different TFDs for
the same buffer and it worked since they pointed to the same buffer.

Also zero the number of BDs after unmapping a TFD. This seems not
necessary since we don't reclaim the same TFD twice, but I like
housekeeping.

This patch solves this warning:

Meenakshi Venkataraman 882dde8eb0 iwlwifi: update BT traffic load states correctly
When BT traffic load changes from its
previous state, a new LQ command needs to be
sent down to the firmware. This needs to
be done only once per change. The state
variable that keeps track of this change is
last_bt_traffic_load. However, it was not
being updated when the change had been
handled. Not updating this variable was
causing a flood of advanced BT config
commands to be sent to the firmware. Fix
this.

Eric Dumazet 56138f50d1 iwlwifi: dont pull too much payload in skb head
As iwlwifi use fat skbs, it should not pull too much data in skb->head,
and particularly no tcp data payload, or splice() is slower, and TCP
coalescing is disabled. Copying payload to userland also involves at
least two copies (part from header, part from fragment)

Each layer will pull its header from the fragment as needed.

(on 64bit arches, skb_tailroom(skb) at this point is 192 bytes)

With this patch applied, I have a major reduction of collapsed/pruned
TCP packets, a nice increase of TCPRcvCoalesce counter, and overall
better Internet User experience.

Small packets are still using a fragless skb, so that page can be reused
by the driver.

Stanislaw Gruszka f6b1154678 iwlwifi: add option to disable 5GHz band
There are various problems happened on 5GHz band not observed on
2.4 GHz (microcode errors, queue stuck, etc... ) . Also roaming

the problems add option to disable 5GHz support. This will help
on environments where APs are dual-band, and devices will not try

	drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/iwl-trans.h

Resolved the iwlwifi conflict with mainline using 3-way diff posted
by John Linville and Stephen Rothwell. In 'net' we added a bug
fix to make iwlwifi report a more accurate skb->truesize but this
conflicted with RX path changes that happened meanwhile in net-next.

In e1000e a conflict arose in the validation code for settings of
adapter->itr. 'net-next' had more sophisticated logic so that
logic was used.

Eric Dumazet ed90542b0c iwlwifi: fix skb truesize underestimation
By default, iwlwifi uses order-1 pages (8 KB) to store incoming frames,
but doesnt say so in skb->truesize.

This makes very possible to exhaust kernel memory since these skb evade
normal socket memory accounting.

As struct ieee80211_hdr is going to be pulled before calling IP stack,
there is no need to use dev_alloc_skb() to reserve NET_SKB_PAD bytes.
alloc_skb() is ok in this driver, allowing more tailroom.

Pull beginning of frame in skb header, in the hope we can reuse order-1
pages in the driver immediately for small frames and reduce their
truesize to the minimum (linear skbs)

Johannes Berg 5ef4acd58a iwlwifi: fix hardware queue programming
Newer devices have 20 (5000 series) or 30 (6000 series)
hardware queues, rather than the 16 that 4965 had. This
was added to the driver a long time ago, but improperly:
the queue registers for the higher queues aren't just
continuations of the registers for the first 16 queues,
they are in other places. Therefore, the hardware would
lock up when trying to activate queue 16 or above and
the device would have to be restarted.

Thanks goes to Emmanuel who identified this and told me
how the queue programming should be done.

Note that we don't use queues 20 and higher today and
doing so needs more work than this.

Johannes Berg bf8440e6a6 iwlwifi: improve TX cache footprint
Having cmd[], meta[] and skbs[] as separate arrays
in the TX queue structure is cache inefficient as
we need the data for a given entry together.

To improve this, create an array with these three
members (allocate meta as part of that struct) so
we have the data we need together located together
improving cache footprint.

The downside is that we need to allocate a lot of
memory in one chunk, about 10KiB (on 64-bit) which
isn't very efficient.

Johannes Berg 0479c19d9f iwlwifi: remove uCode alternatives mechanism
We've never released firmware using the alternatives
mechanism and our build process makes that difficult
anyway. This means that in every file we have ever
built (except maybe by hand for testing) the listed
alternative was 0. Make the alternative field in the
TLVs part of the TLV number (thus expanding that to
32 bits); this gives us more TLV numbers (not really
needed) and more importantly protects against rogue
firmware files that actually do use the alternatives
mechanism -- those will now be rejected since they
don't contain any valid TLVs.

Johannes Berg 11483b5c22 iwlwifi: move eeprom into priv
The whole code around eeprom is distributed
across whole bunch of different files, most
of which belong to the to-be-DVM code. As a
result, it is currently very hard to split
out the EEPROM code to be generic. However,
it is also quite unlikely that the current
EEPROM code will be needed by the MVM code
as that has different mechanisms to query
the EEPROM (it does so through the uCode.)

So, at least temporarily, move everything
into priv. If it becomes necessary to use
the code from MVM, we will have to split it
out, but then it's also easier since we'll
know what pieces we need.

Johannes Berg 7c5ba4a830 iwlwifi: move queue watchdog into transport
This removes one of the two sources of device
restarts in the upper layer -- those are a bit
inconvenient because normal restarts originate
in the transport. By moving the watchdog down
it can be treated the same.

Also rewrite the watchdog logic. Timers are
much more efficient when they never fire, so
instead firing a timer every 500ms set up a
timer for each TX queue and fire it only when
the queue is really stuck. This avoids the CPU
waking up when everything is working well.

While at it, remove the wd_disable config item

This field is never set to anything non-zero in

Johannes Berg e1f0c501c0 iwlwifi: simplify calibration collection
The calibration results all come in while we're
waiting for the calibration complete notification.
As a consequence, there's no need to install a
global RX handler for them, we can use the newly
extended notification wait framework for this and
make the code easier to follow.

It is now quite explicit that we are processing
the calibration results while waiting for the
complete notification, before this was implicit
and developers had to know this to understand why
we wait for the calibration complete notification
and what happens while we wait.

Johannes Berg db662d4786 iwlwifi: extend notification wait
Sometimes, for example when we ask the uCode
for calibration, we wait for the "complete"
response while we also need the results that
are sent in other, interim, notifications.

Currently we handle this by installing an RX
handler globally, but that isn't needed as
this is the only time we want to use these
notifications.

So in order to be able to simplify at least
future code that does the same, extend the
notification wait framework to allow you to
wait for multiple commands and decide based
on the command whether the wait finished.

While at it, also fix a race that can then
become relevant -- if the wait function has
returned true once it shouldn't be called
again, today this can happen due to races
between the triggering and the wakeup.

Johannes Berg 0c19744c34 iwlwifi: process multiple frames per RXB
The flow handler (hardware) can put multiple
frames into a single RX buffer. To handle
this, walk the RX buffer and check if there
are multiple valid packets in it.

To let the upper layer handle this correctly
introduce rxb_offset() which is needed when
we pass pages to mac80211 -- we need to know
the offset into the page there.

Also change the page handling scheme to use
refcounting. Anyone who needs a page will
"steal" it, which marks it as having been
used & refcounts it. The RX handler then has
to free its own reference and must not reuse
the page.

Finally, do not set the bit asking the FH to
give us each packet in a single buffer. This
really enables the feature.

Emmanuel Grumbach 3dc420be8c iwlwifi: restore PAN support
in iwlwifi: move setting up fw parameters

Meenakshi moved code up to configure the transport layer, but this
code read the sku before it was set (from the EEPROM). This killed
P2P.
Only the ucode_flags are needed to configure the transport layer, not
the sku which _must_ be set after the EEPROM is read.

We need to reconfigure the transport in case the EEPROM disabled PAN
support. This is not the nicest thing to do, but we have no choice.
Document that we are allowed to configure the transport several times

Johannes Berg e755f882b7 iwlwifi: redesign PASSIVE_NO_RX workaround
The PASSIVE_NO_RX workaround currently crosses
through the op_mode and transport layers, which
is a bit odd. This also isn't necessary, if the
transport simply reports when queues are full
(or no longer full) the op_mode can keep track
of this state, and report to mac80211 only what
*it* thinks is appropriate. What is appropriate
can then be based on whether queues should be
stopped to wait for RX or not.

This significantly simplifies the transport API,
it no longer needs to expose anything to stop a
queue, nor to wake "any" queue, this can all be
handled in the upper layer completely.

Also simplify the handling to not be dependent
on the context, that makes little sense as the
queues are shared and both contexts have to be
on the same channel anyway.

We currently use the _irqsafe version, but that

If we only monitor while associated, the following
can happen:
 - we're associated, and the queue stuck check
runs, setting the queue "touch" time to X
 - we disassociate, stopping the monitoring,
which leaves the time set to X
 - almost 2s later, we associate, and enqueue
   a frame
 - before the frame is transmitted, we monitor
for stuck queues, and find the time set to
X, although it is now later than X + 2000ms,
so we decide that the queue is stuck and
   erroneously restart the device

It happens more with P2P because there we can
go between associated/unassociated frequently.

Amit Beka edabfa914d iwlwifi: send testmode hcmd reply with rx header
When a host command is sent through testmode, the whole
reply (including rx header) is returned to the user, and not
only the payload of the rx.
Before this commit the length was buggy - the reply contained 4 bytes
after the end of the payload.

Emmanuel Grumbach 78e5a46432 iwlwifi: kill iwl_down and s/__iwl_down/iwl_down
iwl_down was just a wrapper around __iwl_down which was called from
one place only. Replace it to direct call to iwl_down. Add lockdep
warning in iwl_down to ensure it was called with the mutex held.
