Currently, the registers are read out once per conversion interval. If
the reading is delayed as the conversion has not yet finished, this extra
time is treated as being part of the readout, although it should delay
the start of the poll interval. This results in the interval starting
slightly earlier in each iteration, until all time between reads is
spent polling the status registers instead of sleeping.
To fix this, the delay has to account for the state of the conversion
ready flag. Whenever the conversion is already finished, schedule the next
read on the regular interval, otherwise schedule it one interval after the
flag bit has been set.
Split the work function in two functions, one for the status poll and one
for reading the values, to be able to note down the time when the flag
bit is raised.

On some Meson8 devices the channel muxes are not programmed. This
results in garbage values when trying to read channels that are not set
up.
Fix this by initializing the channel 0 and 1 muxes in
MESON_SAR_ADC_CHAN_10_SW as well as the muxes for all other channels in
MESON_SAR_ADC_AUX_SW based on what the vendor driver does (which is
simply a 1:1 mapping of channel number and channel mux).
This only showed up on Meson8 devices, because for GXBB and newer BL30
is taking care of initializing the channel muxes.
This additionally fixes a typo in the

A comment in the driver from Amlogic's GPL kernel says that it's

MESON_SAR_ADC_REG3 register within the SAR ADC register area.
According to the datasheet (and the existing MESON_SAR_ADC_REG3_CLK_EN

The fls() function returns the last set bit, which is "bit index + 1"
(fls(MESON_SAR_ADC_REG3_CLK_EN) returns 31). Fix this by switching to

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

These ADCs are marketed as single-channel 22 bit delta-sigma ADCs, but
in reality their resolution is 21 bit with an overrange or underrange
of 12% beyond Vref. In other words, "full scale" means +/- 2^20.
This driver does not explicitly signal back to the user when an
overrange or underrange occurs, but the user can detect it by comparing
the raw value to +/- 2^20 (or the scaled value to Vref).
The chips feature an extended temperature range and high accuracy,
low noise characteristics, but their conversion times are slow with
up to 80 ms +/- 2% (on the MCP3550-50).
Hence, unlike the other ADCs supported by the driver, conversion does
not take place in realtime upon lowering CS. Instead, CS is asserted
for 8 usec to start the conversion. After waiting for the duration of
the conversion, the result can be fetched. While waiting, control of
the bus is ceased so it may be used by a different device.
After the result has been fetched and 10 us have passed, the chip goes
into shutdown and an additional power-up delay of 144 clock periods is
then required to wake the analog circuitry upon the next conversion
(footnote below table 4-1, page 16 in the spec).
Optionally, the chips can be used in so-called "continuous conversion
mode": Conversions then take place continuously and the last result may
be fetched at any time without observing a delay. The mode is enabled
by permanently driving CS low, e.g. by wiring it to ground. The driver
only supports "single conversion mode" for now but should be adaptable
to "continuous conversion mode" with moderate effort.
The chips clock out a 3 byte word, unlike the other ADCs supported by
the driver which all have a lower resolution than 16 bit and thus make
do with 2 bytes. Calculate the word length on probe by rounding up the
resolution to full bytes. Crucially, if the clock idles low, the
transfer is preceded by a useless Data Ready bit which increases its
length from 24 bit to 25 bit = 4 bytes (section 5.5 in the spec).
Autosense this based on the SPI slave's configuration.

According to the ABI documentation, the shunt resistor value should be
specificied in Ohm. As this is also used/documented for the MAX9611,
use the same for the INA2xx driver.
This poses an ABI break for anyone actually altering the shunt value

This driver has a get_temp function used by the thermal framework that
uses pm functions.
However, the driver isn't registered in pm before it is registered in
thermal framework, resulting in the pm_resume not being called and thus
the IP not enabled.
When the IP is disabled, the raw temp value is always 0. With the
devices currently supported, it isn't a problem since with their
respective formula, they return a really cold SoC temperature which
isn't a problem for the thermal framework. But for future SoC that have
a different formula, it could return a critically hot temperature,
forcing the thermal framework to shutdown the board.

Note there is a misc driver drop in here given we have support
in IIO and the feeling is no one will care.
A large part of this series is a boiler plate removal series avoiding
the need to explicitly provide THIS_MODULE in various locations.
It's very dull but touches all drivers.
New device support
* ad5446
- add ids to support compatible parts DAC081S101, DAC101S101,
DAC121S101.
- add the dac7512 id and drop the misc driver as feeling is no
one is using it (was introduced for a board that is long obsolete)
* mt6577
- add bindings for mt2712 which is fully compatible with other
supported parts.
* st_pressure
- add support for LPS33HW and LPS35HW with bindings (ids mostly).
New features
* ccs811
- Add support for the data ready trigger.
* mma8452
- remove artifical restriction on supporting multiple event types
at the same time.
* tcs3472
- support out of threshold events
Core and tree wide cleanup
* Use macro magic to remove the need to provide THIS_MODULE as part of
struct iio_info or struct iio_trigger_ops. This is similar to
work done in a number of other subsystems (e.g. i2c, spi).
All drivers are fixed and then the fields in these structures are
removed.
This will cause build failures for out of tree drivers and any
new drivers that cross with this work going into the kernel.
Note mostly done with a coccinelle patch, included in the series
on the mailing list but not merged as the fields no longer exist
in the structures so the any hold outs will cause a build failure.
Cleanups
* ads1015
- avoid writing config register when it doesn't change.
- add 10% to conversion wait time as it seems it is sometimes
a little small.
* ade7753
- replace use of core mlock with a local lock. This is part of a
long term effort to make the use of mlock opaque and single
purpose.
* ade7759
- expand the use of buf_lock to cover previous mlock cases. This
is a slightly nicer solution to the same issue as in ade7753.
* cros_ec
- drop an unused variable
* inv_mpu6050
- add a missing break in a switch for consistency - not actual
bug,
- make some local arrays static to save on object code size.
* max5481
- drop manual setting of the spi module owner as handled by the
spi core.
* max5487
- drop manual setting of the spi module owner as handled by the
spi core.
* max9611

to make it explicit that the reference regulator is needed.

- drop config of LIR as it is only ever set to the existing
defaults,
- drop rounding configuration as it only ever matches the defaults.
* ti-ads8688
- drop manual setting of the spi module owner as handled by the

- return and error for a failed read_reg debugfs call rather than
eating the error.
* ad7192
- Use the dedicated reset function in the ad_sigma_delta library
instead of an spi transfer with the data on the stack which
could cause problems with DMA.
* ad7793
- Implement a dedicate reset function in the ad_sigma_delta library
and use it to correctly reset this part.
* bme280
- ctrl_reg write must occur after any register writes
for updates to take effect.
* mcp320x
- negative voltage readout was broken.
- Fix an oops on module unload due to spi_set_drvdata not being called
in probe.
* st_magn
- Fix the data ready line configuration for the lis3mdl. It is not
configurable so the st_magn core was assuming it didn't exist
and so wasn't consuming interrupts resulting in an unhandled
interrupt.
* stm32-adc
- off by one error on max channels checking.
* stm32-timer
- preset should not be buffered - reorganising register writes avoids
this.
- fix a corner case in which write preset goes wrong when a timer is
used first as a trigger then as a counter with preset. Odd case but
you never know.
* ti-ads1015
- Fix setting of comparator polarity by fixing bitfield definition.
* twl4030
- Error path handling fix to cleanup in event of regulator
registration failure.
- Disable the vusb3v1 regulator correctly in error handling
- Don't paper over a regulator enable failure.
The serial interface can be reset by writing 32 consecutive 1s to the device.
'ret' was initialized correctly but its value was overwritten when
ad7793_check_platform_data() was called. Since a dedicated reset function
is present now, it should be used instead.

Since most of the SD ADCs have the option of reseting the serial

a dedicated function that can do this is usefull.

Commit f686a36b4b ("iio: adc: mcp320x: Add support for mcp3301")
returns a signed voltage from mcp320x_adc_conversion() but neglects that
the caller interprets a negative return value as failure. Only mcp3301
(and the upcoming mcp3550/1/3) is affected as the other chips are
incapable of measuring negative voltages.
Fix and while at it, add mcp3301 to the list of supported chips at the
top of the file.

The driver sets a .data pointer for each .compatible string but never
calls of_device_get_match_data(). Instead, ADC properties are looked up
with spi_get_device_id(). The .data pointer is therefore unnecessary,
so drop it.

Single-channel converters such as mcp3001, mcp3201, mcp3301 and the
upcoming mcp3550/1/3 lack a MOSI pin, so there's no need to call
mcp320x_channel_to_tx_data() for them.
Moreover, instead of calling spi_read() for these converters, which
generates an spi_message and spi_transfer on the stack on every readout,
it's more efficient to use the spi_message and spi_transfer[] included
in struct mcp320x (as we do for multi-channel ADCs), but initialize the
spi_message only with the receive transfer.

Commit a53e35db70 ("reset: Ensure drivers are explicit when requesting
reset lines") started to transition the reset control request API calls
to explicitly state whether the driver needs exclusive or shared reset
control behavior. Convert all drivers requesting exclusive resets to the
explicit API call so the temporary transition helpers can be removed.
No functional changes.

The ADS1015 device provides programmable comparator that can issue an
interrupt on the ALERT pin. This change adds the iio threshold event
support for that feature.
The ADS1015 device only have a single config register which contains an
input multiplexer selection, comparator settings, and etc. So only a
single event channel can be enabled at a time. Also enabling both buffer
and event are prohibited for simplicity.

While the iio buffer for the ti-ads1015 driver is enabled, reading the
raw ADC channel data is restricted. We usually use the
iio_device_claim_direct_mode()/iio_device_release_direct_mode() pair for
that.
This change consequently reverses the locking order for the driver's
private lock and indio_dev->mlock which acquired by
iio_device_claim_direct_mode() internally. But it's safe because there is
no other dependency between these locks.

The ti-ads1015 driver has eight iio voltage channels and each iio channel
can hold own scale information.
The ADS1015 device only have a single config register which contains an
input multiplexer selection, PGA and data rate settings. So the driver
should load the correct settings when the input multiplexer selection is
changed.
However, regardless of which channlel is currently selected, changing any
iio channel's scale information immediately overwrites the current PGA
setting in the config register.
It is harmless because the correct PGA settings are reloaded just before
getting adc result anyway. But it is unnecessary register update and
should be removed.

This driver assumes that the device is operating in the continuous
conversion mode which performs the conversion continuously. So this driver
inserts a wait time before reading the conversion register if the
configuration is changed from a previous request.
Currently, the wait time is only the period required for a single
conversion that is calculated as the reciprocal of the sampling frequency.
However we also need to wait for the the previous conversion to complete.
Otherwise we probably get the conversion result for the previous
configuration when the sampling frequency is lower.

pm_runtime_get_sync() and pm_runtime_put_autosuspend() return 0 on
success, 1 if the device's runtime PM status was already requested status
or error code on failure. So a positive return value doesn't indicate an
error condition.
However, any non-zero return values from buffer preenable and postdisable
callbacks are recognized as an error and this driver reuses the return
value from pm_runtime_get_sync() and pm_runtime_put_autosuspend() in
these callbacks. This change fixes the false error detections.

This driver assumes that the device is operating in the continuous
conversion mode which performs the conversion continuously. So this driver
doesn't insert a wait time before reading the conversion register if the
configuration is not changed from a previous request.
This assumption is broken if the device is runtime suspended and entered
a power-down state. The forthcoming request causes reading a stale result
from the conversion register as the device is runtime resumed just before.
Fix it by adding a flag to detect that condition and insert a necessary
wait time.

The ADS1015 device have two operating modes, continuous conversion mode
and single-shot mode. This driver assumes that the continuous conversion
mode is selected by runtime resume callback when the ADC result is
requested.
If CONFIG_PM is disabled, the device is always in the default single-shot
mode and no one begins a single conversion. So the conversion register
doesn't contain valid ADC result. Fix it by changing the continuous mode
in probe function.

The ti-ads1015 driver supports ADS1015 and ADS1115 devices. The same
scale information is used for both devices in this driver, however they
have actually different values and the ADS1115's one is not correct.
These devices have the same full-scale input voltage range for each PGA
selection. So instead of adding another hardcoded scale information,
compute a correct scale on demand from each device's resolution.

This removes the unexpected config register update and correctly load the

The driver doesn't have a struct of_device_id table but supported devices
are registered via Device Trees. This is working on the assumption that a
SPI device registered via OF will always match a legacy SPI device ID and
that the MODALIAS reported will always be of the form spi:<device>.
There is an ACPI method to enumerate such devices via specific ACPI ID
and use of compatible strings. It will not work for the drivers which
have no OF match ID table present.
Besides this could change in the future so the correct approach is to
have an OF device ID table if the devices are registered via OF.

STM32 ADC allows each channel to be sampled with a different sampling time,
by setting SMPR registers. Basically, value depends on local electrical
properties. Selecting correct value for sampling time highly depends on
analog source impedance. There is a manual that may help in this process:
'How to get the best ADC accuracy in STM32...'
This patch allows to configure minimum sampling time via device tree,
either for:
- all channels at once:
st,min-sample-time-nsecs = <10000>;
- independently for each channel (must match "st,adc-channels" list):
st,adc-channels = <0 1>;
st,min-sample-time-nsecs = <5000 10000>;

ADC clock input is provided to internal prescaler (that decreases its
frequency). It's then used as reference clock for conversions.
- Fix common clock rate used then by stm32-adc sub-devices. Take common
prescaler into account. Currently, rate is used to set "boost" mode.
It may unnecessarily be set. This impacts power consumption.
- Fix ADC max clock rate on STM32H7 (fADC from datasheet). Currently,
prescaler may be set too low. This can result in ADC reference
clock used for conversion to exceed max allowed clock frequency.

Proper support for the INA219 lowered the minimum sampling period from
2*140us to 2*84us. Subtracting 200us later leads to an underflow and
an almost infinite udelay later.
Using a signed int for the sampling period provides sufficient range
(at most 2*8640*1024us), but catches the underflow when comparing with

- Revert a patch that dropped some bogus register mods. No one is entirely
sure why but it breaks charging on some devices.
- Fix GPADC pin read returning 0. Turns out a small sleep is needed.
* bmc150
- Make sure device is restored to normal state after suspend / resume
cycle. Otherwise, simple sysfs reads are broken.
* tsl2563
- fix wrong event code.
* st-accel
- add spi 3-wire support. Needed to fix the lsm303agr accelerometer
which only had 3 wires in all cases. Side effect is to enable optional
3-wire support for other devices.
* st-pressure
- disable multiread by default for LPS22HB (only effects SPI)
* sun4i-gpadc-iio
- fix unbalanced irq enable / disable
* vf610
- Fix VALT slection for REFSEL bits - ensures we are using the
right reference pins.
This patch enables adc engine at initialization time and waits
for the initial sequence completion before enabling adc channels.
Without this code adc channels are not functional and shows
zeros for all connected channels.
Tested on mellanox msn platform.

I noticed in its DSDT that one of my tablets actually is using the GPADC
pin for temperature monitoring.
The whole axp288_adc_set_ts() function is a bit weird, in the past it was
removed because it seems to make no sense, then this was reverted because
of regressions.
So I decided to test the special GPADC pin handling on this tablet.
Conclusion: not only is axp288_adc_set_ts() necessary, we need to sleep a
bit after making the AXP288_ADC_TS_PIN_CTRL changes before sampling the
GPADC, otherwise it will often (about 80% of the time) read 0 instead of
its actual value.
It seems that there is only 1 bias current source and to be able to use it
for the GPIO0 pin in GPADC mode it must be temporarily turned off for the
TS pin, but the datasheet does not mention this.
This commit adds a sleep after disabling the TS pin bias current,
fixing the GPADC more often then not wrongly returning 0.

When initializing interrupts, the devm_request_any_context_irq will
enable them right away. An atomic flag was set in sun4i_irq_init and read
in the interrupt handler to make sure no unwanted interrupts were
handled. If an unwanted interrupt occurred, the handler would disable
the irq and return IRQ_HANDLED. However, at the end of sun4i_irq_init,
the irq would be disabled as well, resulting in an unbalanced enable
(since there are more disables than enables, the code enabling the
interrupt would never be called).
When reading the ADC or the temperature, the respective irq would be
enabled in the read function and disabled in the irq handler. In the
read function, we would wait for a completion (with a timeout) that will
be set in the irq handler. However, if the completion is never set or if
the wait for completion times out, the irq would not be disabled in the
read function resulting in an unbalanced enable once the read function
is called again (since there are 2+ enables for no disable).
Moving disable_irq from the irq handler to the read function get rid of
these two cases of unbalanced enable.

In order to enter Suspend to ram mode (backup + self refresh mode for
memory), in which the ADC IP is no longer powered, we need to reset the
pins to default state, for the scenario when they are also used for I2C
bus to communicate with the PMIC.
On resume, we need to reconfigure the ADC IP registers and reconfigure the
trigger registers in the case when the suspend procedure is done while
sysfs has the buffer and trigger enabled.
In the case the suspend happens exactly during a software triggered
conversion, the request will time out, because we reset and power down

meson_sar_adc_clear_fifo passes a 0 as value-pointer to regmap_read().
In case of the meson-saradc driver this ends up in regmap_mmio_read(),
where the value-pointer is de-referenced unconditionally to assign the
value which was read.
Fix this by passing an actual pointer, even though all we want to do is
to discard the value.
As a side-effect this fixes a sparse warning ("Using plain integer as
NULL pointer") as reported by Paolo Cretaro.

It seems that "MC13783 Power Management and Audio Ciruit User's Guide"
MC1378UG.pdf documents several similar components as in the CPCAP PMIC.
Chapter "9.5.5 Die Temperature and UID" says that the die temperature
value is 282 at 25C with LSB of -1.14C. Converting CPCAP PMIC channel3
values with following seems to produce values that make sense for a
PMIC die:
temperature = 25000 + ((regval - 282) * 114)
As we don't have any other documentation, let's assume the die
temperature is unconfigured in the Motorola mapphone Linux kernel
and the current temperature conversion table should be only used
for the battery thermistor and not for the die temperature.

the values with the mainline kernel don't match. Let's fix this by
initializing the ADC registers to what Android does.
For getting correct values from the battery thermistor, we need to
toggle the CPCAP_BIT_THERMBIAS_EN when measuring battery temperature

wait a little bit before reading the battery temperature as otherwise
the results are inaccurate.

For the sake of DT binding stability, this IIO driver is a child of an
MFD driver for Allwinner A10, A13 and A31 because there already exists a
DT binding for this IP. The MFD driver has a DT node but the IIO driver
does not.
The IIO device registers the temperature sensor in the thermal framework
using the DT node of the parent, the MFD device, so the thermal
framework could match the phandle to the MFD device in the DT and the
struct device used to register in the thermal framework.
devm_thermal_zone_of_sensor_register was previously used to register the
thermal sensor with the parent struct device of the IIO device,
representing the MFD device. By doing so, we registered actually the
parent in the devm routine and not the actual IIO device.
This lead to the devm unregister function not being called when the IIO
module driver is removed. It resulted in the thermal framework still
polling the get_temp function of the IIO module while the device doesn't
exist anymore, thus generated a kernel panic.
Use the non-devm function instead and do the unregister manually in the
remove function.

This is an upstream port of an IIO driver for the TI ADC108S102 and
ADC128S102. The former can be found on the Intel Galileo Gen2 and the
Siemens SIMATIC IOT2000. For those boards, ACPI-based enumeration is
included.
Due to the lack of regulators under ACPI, we hard-code the voltage
provided to the VA pin of the ADC to 5 V, the value used on Galileo and
IOT2000. For DT usage, the regulator "vref-supply" provides this
information. Note that DT usage has not been tested.

The third argument of devm_request_threaded_irq() is the primary
handler. It is called in hardirq context and checks whether the
interrupt is relevant to the device. If the primary handler returns
IRQ_WAKE_THREAD, the secondary handler (a.k.a. handler thread) is
scheduled to run in process context.
bcm_iproc_adc.c uses the secondary handler as the primary one
and the other way around. So this patch fixes the same, along with
re-naming the secondary handler and primary handler names properly.

Reset GPIO is active low.
Currently driver uses gpiod_set_value(1) to clean reset, which depends
on device tree to contain GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH - that does not match reality.
This fixes driver to use _raw version of gpiod_set_value() to enforce
active-low semantics despite of what's written in device tree. Allowing
device tree to override that only opens possibility for errors and does
not add any value.
Additionally, use _cansleep version to make things work with i2c-gpio
and other sleeping gpio drivers.

Pull hw lockdown support from David Howells:
"Annotation of module parameters that configure hardware resources
including ioports, iomem addresses, irq lines and dma channels.
This allows a future patch to prohibit the use of such module
parameters to prevent that hardware from being abused to gain access
to the running kernel image as part of locking the kernel down under
UEFI secure boot conditions.
Annotations are made by changing:
module_param(n, t, p)
module_param_named(n, v, t, p)
module_param_array(n, t, m, p)
to:
module_param_hw(n, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_named(n, v, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_array(n, t, hwtype, m, p)
where the module parameter refers to a hardware setting
hwtype specifies the type of the resource being configured. This can
be one of:
ioport Module parameter configures an I/O port
iomem Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)
irq Module parameter configures an I/O port
dma Module parameter configures a DMA channel
dma_addr Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
other Module parameter configures some other value
Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
future use.
A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.
The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.
The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
reasonable default.
What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.
Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.
[!] Note that in and of itself, this series of patches should have no
effect on the the size of the kernel or code execution - that is
left to a patch in the next series to effect. It does mark
annotated kernel parameters with a KERNEL_PARAM_FL_HWPARAM flag in
an already existing field"

Meson GX SoCs however use some magic bits to prevent simultaneous (=
conflicting, because only consumer should use the FIFO buffer with the
ADC results) usage by the Linux kernel and the bootloader (the BL30
bootloader uses the SAR ADC to read the CPU temperature).
This patch changes guards all BL30 functionality so it is skipped on
SoCs which don't have it. Since the hardware itself doesn't know whether
BL30 is available the internal meson_sar_adc_data is extended so this
information can be provided per of_device_id.data inside the driver.
Additionally the clocks "adc_clk" and "adc_sel" are not provided by the
clock-controller itself. "adc_sel" is not available at all. "adc_clk"
is provided by the SAR ADC IP block itself on Meson8b (and earlier).
This is already supported by the meson_saradc driver.
Finally this introduces new of_device_ids for the Meson8 and Meson8b
SoCs so the driver can be wired up in the corresponding DT.

Here is the big staging tree update for 4.12-rc1. And it's a big one,
adding about 350k new lines of crap^Wcode, mostly all in a big dump of
media drivers from Intel. But there's other new drivers in here as
well, yet-another-wifi driver, new IIO drivers, and a new crypto
accelerator. We also deleted a bunch of stuff, mostly in patch
cleanups, but also the Android ION code has shrunk a lot, and the
Android low memory killer driver was finally deleted, much to the

When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to
prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image. Whilst this
includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent
access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a
device to access or modify the kernel image.
To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware
configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they
specify. The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can
skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down.
The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the
default values for those parameters is.
Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some
drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and
some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition
to manually coded parameters.
This patch annotates drivers in drivers/iio/.

This adds max1117/max1118/max1119 8-bit, dual-channel ADC driver.
This new driver uses the zero length spi_transfers with the cs_change
flag set and/or the non-zero delay_usecs.
1. The zero length transfer with the spi_transfer.cs_change set is
required in order to select CH1. The chip select line must be brought
high and low again without transfer.
2. The zero length transfer with the spi_transfer.delay_usecs > 0 is
required for waiting the conversion to be complete. The conversion
begins with the falling edge of the chip select. During the conversion
process, SCLK is ignored.
These two usages are unusual. But the spi controller drivers that use
a default implementation of transfer_one_message() are likely to work.
(I've tested this adc driver with spi-omap2-mcspi and spi-xilinx)
On the other hand, some spi controller drivers that have their own
transfer_one_message() may not work. But at least for the zero length
transfer with delay_usecs > 0, I'm proposing a new testcase for the
spi-loopback-test that can test whether the delay_usecs setting has
taken effect.

The Qualcomm PM8xxx PMICs contain a simpler ADC than its
successors (already in the kernel as qcom-spmi-vadc.c):
the HK/XO ADC (Housekeeping/Chrystal oscillator ADC).
As far as I can understand this is equal to the PMICs
using SSBI transport and encompass PM8018, PM8038,
PM8058, and PM8921, so this is shortly named PM8xxx.
This ADC monitors a bunch of on-board voltages and the die
temperature of the PMIC itself, but it can also be routed
to convert a few external MPPs (multi-purpose pins). On
the APQ8060 DragonBoard this feature is used to let this
ADC convert an analog ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) voltage
signal from a Capella CM3605 ALS into a LUX value.
Developed and tested with APQ8060 DragonBoard based on
Ivan's driver and Rama Krishna's patches. The SPMI VADC
driver is quite different, but share enough minor
functionality that I have split out to the common file
in a previous patch.

The SPMI VADC and the earlier XOADC share a subset of
common code, so to be able to use the same code in both
drivers, we break out a separate file with the common code,
prefix exported functions that are no longer static with
qcom_* and bake an object qcom-spmi-vadc.o that contains both
files: qcom-vadc-common.o and qcom-spmi-vadc-core.o.
As we need to follow the procedure for making a kernel module
or compiled in object from several files, but still want to
produce the same module name, rename the qcom-spmi-vadc.c
file to qcom-spmi-vadc-core.c so we can bake the two objects
into qcom-spmi-vadc.o

This adds support for the Allwinner A33 thermal sensor.
Unlike the A10, A13 and A31, the Allwinner A33 only has one channel
which is dedicated to the thermal sensor. Moreover, its thermal sensor
does not generate interruptions, thus we only need to directly read the
register storing the temperature value.
The MFD used by the A10, A13 and A31, was created to avoid breaking the
DT binding, but since the nodes for the ADC weren't there for the A33,
it is not needed.
Though the A33 does not have an internal ADC, it has a thermal sensor
which shares the same registers with GPADC of the already supported SoCs
and almost the same bits, for the same purpose (thermal sensor).
The thermal sensor behaves exactly the same (except the presence of
interrupts or not) on the different SoCs.

This moves code used in MFD probing to a new sun4i_gpadc_probe_mfd
function.
This driver was initially written for A10, A13 and A31 SoCs which
already had a DT binding for this IP, thus we needed to use an MFD to
probe the different drivers without changing the DT binding of these
SoCs.
For SoCs that will require to create a DT binding for this IP, we can
avoid using an MFD, thus we need two separate functions: one for probing
via MFD and one for probing without MFD.
This split the code specific to MFD probing in a function separated from
the driver probe function.

With CONFIG_THERMAL=m and CONFIG_SUN4I_GPADC=y, we get a link error
from calling devm_thermal_zone_of_sensor_register:
drivers/iio/built-in.o: In function `sun4i_gpadc_probe':
:(.text+0x1c284): undefined reference to `devm_thermal_zone_of_sensor_register'
This adds a Kconfig dependency to ensure we can only have the ADC
driver as built-in when this function is also built-in, or when
we see the empty stub implementation. When the thermal code is
a module, we can still build the adc driver as a module, too.

On Motorola phones like droid 4 there is a custom CPCAP PMIC. This PMIC
has ADCs that are used for battery charging and USB PHY VBUS and ID pin
detection.
Unfortunately the only documentation for this ADC seems to be the
Motorola mapphone Linux kernel tree. I have tested that reading raw and
scaled values works, but I have not used the timed sampling that the ADC
seems to support.
Let's add a minimal support for it so we can eventually provide IIO
channels for the related battery charging and USB PHY drivers.

The driver doesn't have a struct of_device_id table but supported devices
are registered via Device Trees. This is working on the assumption that a
I2C device registered via OF will always match a legacy I2C device ID and
that the MODALIAS reported will always be of the form i2c:<device>.
But this could change in the future so the correct approach is to have an
OF device ID table if the devices are registered via OF.

The tiadc_irq_h(int irq, void *private) function is handling FIFO
overruns by clearing flags, disabling and enabling the ADC to
recover.
If the ADC is running in continuous mode a FIFO overrun happens
regularly. If the disabling of the ADC happens concurrently with
a new conversion. It might happen that the enabling of the ADC
is ignored by the hardware. This stops the ADC permanently. No
more interrupts are triggered.
According to the AM335x Reference Manual (SPRUH73H October 2011 -
Revised April 2013 - Chapter 12.4 and 12.5) it is necessary to
check the ADC FSM bits in REG_ADCFSM before enabling the ADC
again. Because the disabling of the ADC is done right after the
current conversion has been finished.
To trigger this bug it is necessary to run the ADC in continuous
mode. The ADC values of all channels need to be read in an endless
loop. The bug appears within the first 6 hours (~5.4 million
handled FIFO overruns). The user space application will hang on
reading new values from the character device.

support")

The Allwinner SoCs all have an ADC that can also act as a touchscreen
controller and a thermal sensor. This patch adds the ADC driver which is
based on the MFD for the same SoCs ADC.
This also registers the thermal adc channel in the iio map array so
iio_hwmon could use it without modifying the Device Tree. This registers
the driver in the thermal framework.
The thermal sensor requires the IP to be in touchscreen mode to return
correct values. Therefore, if the user is continuously reading the ADC
channel(s), the thermal framework in which the thermal sensor is
registered will switch the IP in touchscreen mode to get a temperature
value and requires a delay of 100ms (because of the mode switching),
then the ADC will switch back to ADC mode and requires also a delay of
100ms. If the ADC readings are critical to user and the SoC temperature
is not, this driver is capable of not registering the thermal sensor in
the thermal framework and thus, "quicken" the ADC readings.
This driver probes on three different platform_device_id to take into
account slight differences (registers bit and temperature computation)
between Allwinner SoCs ADCs.

Merge tag 'iio-fixes-for-4.11b' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jic23/iio into staging-linus
Jonathan writes:
Second set of IIO fixes for IIO in the 4.11 cycle.
This series consists of fixes that either came in after the merge window
had opened or are fixes for work that merged during the merge window so had
to wait for that to hit mainline.
* 104-quad-8
- Fix an off by one error in the register address for the flag register.
* rcar-gyroadc
- protect against possible issues in future by dealing with childmode not
being in a valid state. This also deals with some build warnings.
* xilinx
- fix some error handling paths to ensure resources are released in
reverse order of being acquired.
Reorder error handling labels in order to match the way resources have
been allocated.

After sampling there should always be only one value in the FIFO.
This also applies to averaging mode as the averaging is done
chip-internally. So we don't have to loop and let the driver
complain if there's not exactly one value in the FIFO.
If the value belongs to a different channel then don't silently
swallow the value but complain.

There are a few more little cleanups that could be done on this driver, but
I don't think any are sufficient to justify not moving it out of staging.
It's a very simple driver (presumably for a simple part) so not much that can
go wrong. I think it was only ever in staging because that's where IIO was
as a whole at the time and then we forgot about it!

There are some unanswered questions due to disagreements between the code
and various datasheets (including between different datasheets for the same
part).
I don't think that is necessarily a reason to keep it in staging however.
I'm partly posting this patch inorder to reignite debate and with a bit
of luck find someone who has one of these to test!

picks up the staging and IIO fixes that we need/want in here as well.

If we get an unknown 'childmode' value, a number of variables are not
initialized properly:
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c: In function 'rcar_gyroadc_probe':
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:390:5: error: 'num_channels' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:426:22: error: 'sample_width' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:428:23: error: 'channels' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
The driver is currently correct, but handling this properly is more robust
for possible modifications.
There is also a false-positive warning about adcmode being possibly uninitialized,
but that cannot happen as we also check the 'first' flag:
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:398:26: error: 'adcmode' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
This adds an initialization for 'adcmode' and bails out for any unknown childmode.

Add DMA optional support to STM32 ADC, as there is a limited number DMA
channels (request lines) that can be assigned to ADC. This way, driver
may fall back using interrupts when all DMA channels are in use for
other IPs.
Use dma cyclic mode with two periods. Allow to tune period length by
using watermark. Coherent memory is used for dma (max buffer size is

This adds support for the SAR (Successive Approximation Register) ADC
on the Amlogic Meson SoCs.
The code is based on the public S805 (Meson8b) and S905 (GXBB)
datasheets (see [0] and [1]), as well as by reading (various versions
of) the vendor driver and by inspecting the registers on the vendor
kernels of my testing-hardware.
Currently the GXBB, GXL and GXM SoCs are supported. GXBB hardware has
10-bit ADC resolution, while GXL and GXM have 12-bit ADC resolution.
The code was written to support older SoCs (Meson8 and Meson8b) as well,
but due to lack of actual testing-hardware no of_device_id was added for
these.
Two "features" from the vendor driver are currently missing:
- the vendor driver uses channel #7 for calibration (this improves the
accuracy of the results - in my tests the results were less than 3%
off without calibration compared to the vendor driver). Adding support
for this should be easy, but is not required for most applications.
- channel #6 is connected to the SoCs internal temperature sensor.
Adding support for this is probably not so easy since (based on the
u-boot sources) most SoC versions are using different registers and
algorithms for the conversion from "ADC value" to temperature.
Supported by the hardware but currently not supported by the driver:
- reading multiple channels at the same time (the hardware has a FIFO
buffer which stores multiple results)
- continuous sampling (this would require a way to enable this
individually because otherwise the ADC would be drawing power
constantly)
- interrupt support (similar to the vendor driver this new driver is
polling the results. It is unclear if the IRQ-mode is supported on
older (Meson6 or Meson8) hardware as well or if there are any errata)

The I2C core always reports a MODALIAS of the form i2c:<foo> even if the

table device aliases in the module is not needed. But in order to change
how the core reports modaliases to user-space, it's better to export it.

- Add some utility functions for the few things that are directly done
with the buffers.
- Stop exporting functions that no-one uses outside of the core code.
- Push docs down by the code in the c file where they should have always
been.
- Fix typo in kernel-doc for buffer.
- push down some includes that were previously happening implicitly.
- stop enabling the timestamp of the dummy device.
Features and cleanups
* ad5592r
- ACPI support
* ad5593r
-ACPI support.
* ad5933
- Fix a false comment about size of a particular register.
* ad7150
- replace S_IRUGO | S_IWUSR with 0644. I'm not that keen on these patches
in general, but as it was nicely presented I took this one anyway. As a
general rule will only take these as part of a larger driver cleanup.
- don't eat an error but rather reutnr it in the write_event_config callback.
* ad7606
- replace non standard range attibute with _scale
* ade7753
- use usleep_range for short sleeps
* ade7754
- use usleep_range for short sleeps
* ade7758
- use usleep_range for short sleeps
* ade7759
- use usleep_range for short sleeps
* ade7854
- use usleep_range for short sleeps
* adis16201
- fix description
* adis16203
- fix description
- fix copyright year
* adis16209
- fix description
* adt7316
- Add braces to arms of if else statement (for consistency)
- Alignment fixes.
* axp288
- Fix up an issue with accidental overwrites of data.
* bmi160
- add deivce tables for i2c and spi to support correctly identifying the
full dt name (including manufacturer).
- device tree binding.
* bmp280
- use usleep_range for short sleeps.
* cm3232
- return error from cm3232_reg_init rather than eating it if the last write
fails.
* dummy driver
- remove a semicolor found at end of a function defintition.
* exynos-adc
- use usleep_range for short sleeps.
* hid-sensor (accel)
- Add timestamp support. The hardware can provide timestamps so lets support
them. If not fall back to timestamps estimated in kernel.
* hid-sensor (light)
- Add a duplicate ID for the light channels so as to keep existing interface
whilst also using the more standard IIO interface.
* hts221
- acpi probing
* imx25-gcq
- Add a macro call to allow this driver to be automatically loaded.
* isl29028
- reorganise code to avoid deep nesting of if statements.
- move chip test and default regs into a function suitable or sharing with
power management code.
- tidy up some code alignment.
* lidar-lite-v3
- introduce compatible strings that make it clear Garmin have consideral
friends.
* mma8452
- avoid returning signed value when unsigned is appropriate
* spmi-vadc
- Update function for generic voltage conversion to take into account that
different channels on this device should be handled differently.
- Rework code to allow per channel voltage scaling and support the standard
options for this hardware.
- Fixup three minor issues with the above patches for this part. These all
effect test builds rather than the native builds for the part, but good to
clean them up anyway.
* st_sensors
- support device matching from the ACPI DST tables.
- acpi based probing for accelerometers
- acpi based probing for pressure sensors
- Allow pressure sensors to read negative values.
- Export sampling frequency for lps25h and lps331ap.
- Add support for the old DT bindings from the period when these deivces
were often supported through windows.
Docs fixup:
* typo in sysfs-bus-iio
This changes the reference voltage regulator matching string from "refin"
to "vref". This is to be consistent with other A/DC chips that also use
"vref-supply" in their device tree bindings.

This drops the "ti-" prefix from the module name. It makes the module name
consistent with other iio ti-ads* drivers and it makes the driver work
with device tree (the spi subsystem drops the "ti," prefix when matching
compatible strings from device tree).
Tested working on LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 with the following device tree node:
adc@3 {
compatible = "ti,ads7957";
reg = <3>;
#io-channel-cells = <1>;
spi-max-frequency = <10000000>;
vref-supply = <&adc_ref>;
};

Another one of these that we missed previously which prevents test builds
of this driver on 32 bit platforms as it gives an undefined __divdi3 warning.

It is meant to be long and is only added to an s64.

A simple do_div call works here as all the signed 64 bit is
actually small and unsigned at this point, and the numerator is
u32.
Introduce a temporary u64 variable to avoid type comparison warnings
on some architectures.

This is the IIO driver for AVIA HX711 ADC which is mostly used in weighting
cells.
The protocol is quite simple and using GPIOs:
One GPIO is used as clock (SCK) while another GPIO is read (DOUT)
The raw value read from the chip is delivered.
To get a weight one needs to subtract the zero offset and scale it.

For some reason the axp288_adc driver was modifying the
AXP288_ADC_TS_PIN_CTRL register, changing bits 0-1 depending on
whether the GP_ADC channel or another channel was written.
These bits control when a bias current is send to the TS_PIN, the
GP_ADC has its own pin and a separate bit in another register to
control the bias current.
Not only does changing when to enable the TS_PIN bias current
(always or only when sampling) when reading the GP_ADC make no sense
at all, the code is modifying these bits is writing the entire register,
assuming that all the other bits have their default value.
So if the firmware has configured a different bias-current for either
pin, then that change gets clobbered by the write, likewise if the
firmware has set bit 2 to indicate that the battery has no thermal sensor,
this will get clobbered by the write.
This commit fixes all this, by simply removing all writes to the
AXP288_ADC_TS_PIN_CTRL register, they are not needed to read the
GP_ADC pin, and can actually be harmful.

If the driver is built as a module, autoload won't work because the module
alias information is not filled. So user-space can't match the registered
device with the corresponding module.
Export the module alias information using the MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() macro.
