Dominik Brodowski 8e2fc39dde pcmcia: pcmcia_config_loop() default CIS entry handling
Many drivers use the default CIS entry within their pcmcia_config_loop()
callback function. Therefore, factor the default CIS entry handling out.

Dominik Brodowski 498ac1899b pcmcia: pcmcia_config_loop() ConfigIndex unification
Almost all drivers set p_dev->conf.ConfigIndex to cfg->index in
the pcmcia_config_loop() callback function. Therefore, factor it out.

Christian Lamparter 32ddf07185 p54: rename prism54xyz -> p54xyz

I think we should rename every prism54* in order to avoid some

Ivo van Doorn ba2ab47129 rt2x00: Move lna_gain calculation to config() callback
We can optimize lna calculation in IRQ context by
calculating most of the value during the config() callback
when most of the value is actually influenced.

This will be required later by rt2800pci and rt2800usb as
well, since they need the lna_gain value during config().

Ivo van Doorn 2bb057d07a rt2x00: Implement HW encryption
Various rt2x00 devices support hardware encryption.

Most of them require the IV/EIV to be generated by mac80211,
but require it to be provided seperately instead of within
the frame itself. This means that rt2x00lib should extract
the data from the frame and place it in the frame descriptor.
During RX the IV/EIV is provided in the descriptor by the
hardware which means that it should be inserted into the
frame by rt2x00lib.

Harvey Harrison 798ee9850e ath5k: explicitly check skb->len
ieee80211_get_hdrlen_from_skb internally checks that the skb is long
enough to hold the full header, or it returns 0 if not. The check in
ath5k does not check this case and assumes it always got the actual
header length which it then checks against the skb->len plus some headroom.

Change to ieee80211_hdrlen which always returns the hdrlen and keep the
existing headroom check.

Bruno Randolf 63266a6535 ath5k: rates cleanup
cleanup the rates structures used by ath5k. instead of separate driver and
mac80211 rate structures we now setup a static ieee80211_rate array and use it
directly. no conversion between two different rate structures has to be done
any more. a lot of unused and confusing junk was deleted.

renamed ath5k_getchannels into ath5k_setup_bands because this is what it does.
rewrote it to copy the bitrates correctly for each band. this is necessary for
running different hardware with the same driver (e.g. 5211 and 5212 based
cards).

add special handling of rates for AR5211 chipsets: it uses different rate codes
for CCK rates (which are actually like the other chips but with a 0xF mask).

setup a hardware code to rate index reverse mapping table for getting the rate
index of received frames.

the rates for control frames which have to be set in
ath5k_hw_write_rate_duration are now in one single array.

Christian Lamparter d47c3cebf5 p54u: reset skb's data/tail pointer on requeue
(Only important for USB V1 Adaptors)

If an incoming frame wasn't accepted by p54_rx function
the skb will be reused for new frames...

But, we must not forget to set the skb's data pointers into
the same state in which it was initialized by p54u_init_urbs.

Otherwise we either end up with 16 bytes less on every requeue,
or if a new frame is worthy enough to be accepted, the data is
in the wrong place (urb->transfer_buffer wasn't updated!) and mac80211
has a hard time to recognize it...

Larry Finger eda0c003d1 p54: Fix for TX sequence number problem
Following "mac80211: fix TX sequence numbers", if a packet
has the IEEE80211_TX_CTL_ASSIGN_SEQ assigned, a sequence number must be
supplied, either by hardware or software. AFAIK, no such hardware exists
for the p54, thus it must be done in software. With this patch, a connection
qith p54usb is stable, whereas the interface went off-line in 2-3 hours
without this change. Note that this code will have to be reworked for proper
sequence numbers on beacons. In addition, the sequence number has been placed
in the hardware state, not the vif state.

Wang Chen c16d118537 [netdrvr] Drivers should not set IFF_* flag themselves
Some hardware set promisc when they are requested to set IFF_ALLMULTI flag.
It's ok, but if drivers set IFF_PROMISC flag when they set promisc,
it will broken upper layer handle for promisc and allmulti.
In addition, drivers can use their own hardware programming to make it.
So do not allow drivers to set IFF_* flags.

This is a general driver fix, so I didn't split it to pieces and send
to specific driver maintainers.

Sven Wegener 5cbbb376d6 iwlwifi: Don't use buffer allocated on the stack for led names
Having the buffer on the stack and even re-using it for all led devices is bad.
Not being able to resolve the name member of the led device structure to a
meaningful value leads to confusion during ad-hoc debugging and potential
breakage in the future, if we ever decide to access the name member outside of
the registration function. Move the buffer to our private per led device
structures so that it is accessible after registration.

A quick grep didn't yield any occurence of using the led device name parameter
outside of the led device registration function, so currently we should already
be safe for normal operation.

Larry Finger 7dcdd073bf rtl8187: Fix lockups due to concurrent access to config routine
Some users of the RTL8187B have experienced difficulties since commit
49292d5635 that introduced the power
management wext hooks. This difficulty has not made much sense until
it was realized that it was possible for mac80211 to make a call to the
config routine while that routine was already being executed. On this
device, it is necessary to loopback the TX when changing channels. Unless
this is properly restored, the device will lockup. A mutex now protects
the device state, and the private data in several places.

The problem was found by Herton Ronaldo Krzesinski <herton@mandriva.com.br>,
who also suggested this type of fix.

Johannes Berg d0f0980414 mac80211: partially fix skb->cb use
This patch fixes mac80211 to not use the skb->cb over the queue step
from virtual interfaces to the master. The patch also, for now,
disables aggregation because that would still require requeuing,
will fix that in a separate patch. There are two other places (software
requeue and powersaving stations) where requeue can happen, but that is
not currently used by any drivers/not possible to use respectively.

Larry Finger 0ccd58fc03 rtl8187: Improve wireless statistics for RTL8187B
Wireless statistics produced by the RTL8187B driver are not particularly
informative about the strength of the received signal. From the data sheet
provided by Realtek, I discovered that certain parts of the RX header
should have the information necessary to calculate signal quality and
strength. With testing, it became clear that most of these quantities were
very jittery - only the AGC correlated with the signals expected from nearby
AP's. As a result, the quality and strength are derived from the agc value.
The scaling has been determined so that the numbers are close to those
obtained by b43 under the same conditions. The results are qualitatively
correct.

Statistics derived for the RTL8187 have not been changed.

The RX header variables have been renamed to match the quantites described
in the Realtek data sheet.

Ivo van Doorn 74c0ee9b59 rt2x00: Force full register config after start()
rt2x00 will only perform configuration changes from
mac80211 when the configuration option has changed.
This means it keeps track of the current active configuration
and will check these values when the config() callback function
is used.

However this causes breakage when the interface has been
brought down and up again, since all stored active values
aren't reset while the registers might have.
This is for example the case with rt61pci antenna registers which
will jump to invalid values when the interface has been started.

To make sure a full configuration takes place after the start()
callback function, a new flag is added which will be checked
during config() and skips the "what's changed" phase.

Ivo van Doorn f2fdbc4847 rt2x00: Fix EIFS timing value
Olivier reported a difference between the EIFS
values used in the legacy driver and the one in
the rt2x00 drivers.

In rt2x00 the value was
	( SIFS + (8 * (IEEE80211_HEADER + ACK_SIZE)) )
which comes down to 314us while the legacy driver uses the value 364us

This was caused because EIFS is: SIFS + DIFS + AckTime
This patch will fix this by adding the DIFS by the above value,

Jiri Slaby 3a0f2c8718 Ath5k: fix memory corruption
When signal is noisy, hardware can use all RX buffers and since the last
entry in the list is self-linked, it overwrites the entry until we link
new buffers.

Ensure that we don't free this last one until we are 100% sure that it
is not used by the hardware anymore to not cause memory curruption as
can be seen below.

This is done by checking next buffer in the list. Even after that we
know that the hardware refetched the new link and proceeded further
(the next buffer is ready) we can finally free the overwritten buffer.

We discard it since the status in its descriptor is overwritten (OR-ed
by new status) too.

FUJITA Tomonori 8d8bb39b9e dma-mapping: add the device argument to dma_mapping_error()
Add per-device dma_mapping_ops support for CONFIG_X86_64 as POWER
architecture does:

This enables us to cleanly fix the Calgary IOMMU issue that some devices
are not behind the IOMMU (http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/5/8/423).

I think that per-device dma_mapping_ops support would be also helpful for
KVM people to support PCI passthrough but Andi thinks that this makes it
difficult to support the PCI passthrough (see the above thread). So I
CC'ed this to KVM camp. Comments are appreciated.

A pointer to dma_mapping_ops to struct dev_archdata is added. If the
pointer is non NULL, DMA operations in asm/dma-mapping.h use it. If it's
NULL, the system-wide dma_ops pointer is used as before.

If it's useful for KVM people, I plan to implement a mechanism to register
a hook called when a new pci (or dma capable) device is created (it works
with hot plugging). It enables IOMMUs to set up an appropriate
dma_mapping_ops per device.

The major obstacle is that dma_mapping_error doesn't take a pointer to the
device unlike other DMA operations. So x86 can't have dma_mapping_ops per
device. Note all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function
so this is not a problem for POWER but x86 IOMMUs use different
dma_mapping_error functions.

The first patch adds the device argument to dma_mapping_error. The patch
is trivial but large since it touches lots of drivers and dma-mapping.h in
all the architecture.

This patch:

dma_mapping_error() doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA
operations. So we can't have dma_mapping_ops per device.

Note that POWER already has dma_mapping_ops per device but all the POWER
IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function. x86 IOMMUs use device
argument.

Ian Schram 3a33cc108d mac80211_hwsim.c: fix: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000370
I was looking at this out of interest, but I'm in no way familiar with
the code.

Looks to me that the error handling code in mac80211_hwsim is awkward.
Which leads to it calling ieee80211_unregister_hw even when
ieee80211_register_hw failed.

The function has a for loop where it generates all simulated radios.
when something fails, the error handling will call mac80211_hwsim_free
which frees all simulated radios who's pointer isn't zero. However the
information stored is insufficient to determine whether or not the call
to ieee80211_register_hw succeeded or not for a specific radio. The
included patch makes init_mac80211_hwsim clean up the current simulated
radio, and then calls into mac80211_hwsim_free to clean up all the
radios that did succeed.

This however doesn't explain why the rate control registration failed..
build tested this, but had some problems reproducing the original
problem.

David S. Miller e8a0464cc9 netdev: Allocate multiple queues for TX.
alloc_netdev_mq() now allocates an array of netdev_queue
structures for TX, based upon the queue_count argument.

Furthermore, all accesses to the TX queues are now vectored
through the netdev_get_tx_queue() and netdev_for_each_tx_queue()
interfaces. This makes it easy to grep the tree for all
things that want to get to a TX queue of a net device.

Problem spots which are not really multiqueue aware yet, and
only work with one queue, can easily be spotted by grepping
for all netdev_get_tx_queue() calls that pass in a zero index.

A corresponding helper is also added for SDIO, but it can also deal
with all the complexities of splitting up a large transfer efficiently.

Johannes Berg f591fa5dbb mac80211: fix TX sequence numbers
This patch makes mac80211 assign proper sequence numbers to
QoS-data frames. It also removes the old sequence number code
because we noticed that only the driver or hardware can assign
sequence numbers to non-QoS-data and especially management
frames in a race-free manner because beacons aren't passed
through mac80211's TX path.

This patch also adds temporary code to the rt2x00 drivers to
not break them completely, that code will have to be reworked
for proper sequence numbers on beacons.

It also moves sequence number assignment down in the TX path
so no sequence numbers are assigned to frames that are dropped.

to enable drivers to figure out what is changing. Finally, it
removes the beacon_update() driver callback in favour of
having IBSS beacon delivered by ieee80211_beacon_get() as well.

Ivo van Doorn 9a61319512 rt2x00: Fix NULL pointer error in adhoc/master mode
As soon as an interface is enabled, and that interface is in adhoc or master mode,
the device will start raising beacondone interrupts. But before the first interrupt is
raised, mac80211 will probably not have send any beacons to the device yet, which
results in a NULL pointer error when the skb is being freed.

Note that the "raise beacondone interrupts without a beacon" is also a bug,
and will be addressed later. The more important bug however is preventing
the NULL pointer failt itself, since there might be other conditions that could trigger
it as well.

As soon as init_registers() was called, the rt2400/rt2500

premature since no beacons were provided yet, we should

Larry Finger 0e25b4ef22 rtl8187: Change detection of RTL8187B with USB ID of 8187
Some early versions of RTL8187B devices have a USB ID of 0x8187
rather than the 0x8189 of later models. In addition, it appears
that these early units also must be programmed with lower power.
Previous patches used the Product ID string to detect this situation,
but did not address the low power question. This patch uses the
hardware version and sets the power accordingly.

This patch fixes the iwlwifi rfkill. It removes the input device from iwl3945,
adds support for RFKILL_STATE_HARD_BLOCKED and calls rfkill_force_state() to

The calls to iwl|iwl3945_rfkill_set_hw_state() had to be moved because
rfkill_force_state() cannot be called from an atomic context.
Tested on iwl3945 and seems to work fine.

Assaf Krauss 2ff75b7877 iwlwifi: adjust TSF in IBSS
This patch makes the driver, in IBSS mode, comply with TSF requirements
in 2 ways:
1. It notifies mac80211 of its TSF timestamp.
2. It uses the given timestamp in the beacon template to update the ucode.

Emmanuel Grumbach 4b8817b2a0 iwlwifi: remove useless network and duplicate checking
The iwlwifi drivers go to great lengths to avoid passing packets to
mac80211 they think shouldn't go there, while mac80211 can (of course!)
handle them very well.

Especially in the case of duplicate packets this is interesting
because it's such a performance hog (especially for IBSS networks)
while mac80211 does that work on the side without much effort.

This patch removes all that and leaves only what is absolutely
necessary for the hardware.

Ivo van Doorn 980dfcb932 rt2x00: Fix lock dependency errror
This fixes a circular locking dependency in the workqueue handling.
The interface work task uses the mac80211 function
ieee80211_iterate_active_interfaces() which grabs the RTNL lock.

However when the interface is brough down, this happens under the RTNL
lock as well, this causes problems because mac80211 will flush the workqueue
during the ifdown event. This causes mac80211 to wait until the driver has
completed all work which can't finish because it is waiting on the RTNL lock.

This is fixed by moving rt2x00 workqueue tasks on a different workqueue,
this workqueue can be flushed when the ieee80211_hw structure is removed
by the driver (when the driver is unloaded) which does not happen under the
RTNL lock.

Gertjan van Wingerde c4da004857 rt2x00: Replace statically allocated DMA buffers with mapped skb's.
The current PCI drivers require a lot of pre-allocated DMA buffers. Reduce this
by using dynamically mapped skb's (using pci_map_single) instead of the pre-
allocated DMA buffers that are allocated at device start-up time.

At the same time move common RX path code into rt2x00lib from rt2x00pci and

The latest trace about usage of this driver I found was an (unanswered)
request for help by a user trying to get it working reliably five years

And even if it was still working the use cases of this driver (requiring

have become practically nonexisting.

This patch therefore removes the strip driver.

Harvey Harrison fd7c8a40b2 mac80211: add helpers for frame control testing
A few general categories:

1) ieee80211_has_* tests if particular fctl bits are set, the helpers are de
in the same order as the fctl defines:

A combined _has_a4 was also added to test when both FROMDS and TODS are set.

2) ieee80211_is_* is meant to test whether the frame control is of a certain
ftype - data, mgmt, ctl, and two special helpers _is_data_qos, _is_data_pres
which also test a subset of the stype space.

When testing for a particular stype applicable only to one ftype, functions
like ieee80211_is_ack have been added. Note that the ftype is also being
checked in these helpers. They have been added for all mgmt and ctl stypes
in the same order as the STYPE defines.

3) ieee80211_get_* is meant to take a struct ieee80211_hdr * and returns a
pointer to somewhere in the struct, see get_SA, get_DA, get_qos_ctl.

The intel wireless drivers had helpers that used this namespace, convert the
all to use the new helpers and remove the byteshifting as they were defined
in cpu-order rather than little-endian.

Assaf Krauss c46fbefa32 iwlwifi enabling IBSS (Ad-Hoc) mode
This patch enables ibss mode. It consists of two changes upon entering ibss
mode:
1. Removing the redundant line which clears the driver's station table.
This line creates a discrepancy between the driver and the FW's station
table. This prevented the generation of beacons.
2. Assigning a default value to priv's assoc_id. Normally given by an AP in
STA mode, this field is used as an indication for association. Being 0,
   it prevented normal TX flow.
3. Remove a redundant ADD_STA command that cause uCode error.

Gertjan van Wingerde a9f853ddd3 rt2x00: Rework alignment check.
Rework the alignment check in rt2x00dev.c to be independent of any
potential alignment measures that may be taken before. Just check
whether the payload is aligned based on the pointer addresses.

Note: This is preparatory for the dynamically mapped skb buffers
for the PCI drivers, as these need 4-byte alignment instead of the
currently enforced offset by 2 bytes.
